"For winning this year's program history and saw a lot of good guys come through them. And, you know, I was got relatively cold close with coach Boeheim and learned a ton from him. And then when the tournament started, they said to me like, Hey, we've got this crazy idea. $1,000,000 tournament. You know we're going to try and put it on TV. And it sounds like a scam sound is too good to be true that first year in 2014 we did not put a team in But I watched it on TV. I thought it was awesome Idea and a Notre Dame alone 19 1 It just competitive spirit that hay of Notre Dame to do. This Syracuse can do it, Do it better, and that's what we've tried to do. You know, this is our sixth summer of doing it. We've got some really good players and in terms of recruiting the guy that helps to that. My younger brother, Sean. He just graduated. Syracuse in May spent five years up with the program playing there. So you know our our best young player that we added this year's Malika Richardson, who was on the Toronto Raptors last year for 20 something games. You know the defending champs. It was a first round pick in 2016 had that amazing comeback against Virginia 20 points in the second half on Easter Sunday to Syracuse to the final four. So you know, my brother was able to help me with some of these younger guys to which has been awesome, because I think in a tournament like this You need some good That's like your old buddy Eric. Stephen Dorff was our team captain, and then some younger guys kind of freshen things up and have those young, fresh legs that can run up and down and make all the hustle plays. Well, let's get to Davidoff. You got a team you mentioned Malika Richardson dies in the end a year and 1/2 ago. Two years ago, you got Dante Green was a first round pick. But you kept I feel like when I watched you guys played the other day. Made the effort to devote man like DeVos got like this, if factor about him, he and afraid of the moment. He's not gonna be afraid to take the shot. Do you get the sense that he has become like the leader of your team? He's like the L of the statesman. If you will. Evo is that dude, I think you'll be doing this until he can't walk anymore. He's the only player that's played on our team. All six summers that we've done this And the last few, but by the way, he hasn't played pro professionally since 2016 and I really don't have guys. I really don't try to go after guys if they're not active players because this tournament it's really high level basketball mean if you watch and we play tomorrow for cock and ESPN, he watched these guys, you know they're not in the embassy clearly, but They're just a short step away from being in the MBA. A lot of them, So I really try to get guys who are active and in shape and you haven't played in four years. But he in terms of Going overseas or anything like that. But he's relentless in terms of his work ethic. Still, he'll tell you all about it Vegan diet that keeps him in shape, and he truly is the heart and soul of what we do and the last couple of years. It's funny. He said to me, you know. I'm ready, willing and able to take a step back. If I need to be said to me this year. I really think we need to start Malika Richardson and if that means I'm coming off the bench, I don't care. You know, I just want to win. I want what's best for the team. I have expected him to take a little bit of a step back or expected, at least some sort of physical decline. But he's just, you know, Coach Band called him a gamer and when the ball tips off And you're in between those lines. There's been no decline. He's been our best player, not justice Tournament, Not last tournament, every game of every tournament. He's basically been the best player on the court, every tournament and he's He's really fun to watch because he still had a lot left in the tank still gets under Ah, the other team's skin. And he's just a really good dude. And you have to respect somebody who compete that hard. You have always the toughest guy is for is a recruiting pitch that you know you felt like you really had a push it you felt like you really had a, you know, seldom go the extra mile to try to get him to play on your team. Is there one particular guy? You know, there are some guys that ah, that I'm a sucker and like somebody like Andy Round who I know is that Syracuse when you were there, I'm pretty much over six and asking him to play. But I don't mind. I'll still ask. But overall, really the sales pitch I give guys is. Look, this is a life. You've got a life changing opportunity here with the amount of money that you can win in a week, two weeks. Really, dude you if these guys were smart They could take advantage of this opportunity. And it could be way I'm worth way more than the prize money. You know. Malika Richardson comes out here scores 25 points the next few games. Allegiance to the championship. I mean, what do you think all the MBA guys doing down the bubble? They're watching the tournament. You know they love hoops. And so that the money is awesome, and I hope we win the money, but But I hope that some of these guys get noticed by teams and get call ups on get deals that will change your life. Even more than one paycheck from the tournament will hopefully get many, many paychecks from the N B A. And so that's Really the way I try to tell it the guys, you know, this is just how often in your life do you get a life changing opportunity? When it's in front of you? You got to take it. You got to take the chance. You've got to take the risk. This year's been a little bit riskier with everything with coded. But again, the tournament has put together a really good plan that when we're out on the court, we don't feel like there's anything else going on out in the world. You know, the first couple of minutes of the game were We're weird with no fans, but no one's We got going..

"That's that'll wrap it up. No Oh wow. So you're born and raised in Atlanta born in Atlanta raised in Atlanta. Because my dad went to college at the University of Georgia so does that kind of have a bulldog thing and loins my family. Because my dad's still good buddies with Vince Dooley. Who was the oldest and funny enough? When we were shooting this pilot we shot half of it in Atlanta and I was at dinner at the Chop House. Which which was the steakhouse near the hotel? I've been there in Vince. Dooley was there and I hadn't seen him. Since I was a little kid I went up to him and he immediately knew me and his wife was Really friendly and we talked we call my dad together and it was. He's a really nice man because I went when Hershel Walker was on that team back when I was like twelve or thirteen. I mean I went to a Georgia game and sat on the sidelines with them. 'cause my dad had a really close relationship with him with Vince. So you're growing up and that's uncle Vance inch. Do we call him. Uncle was it was definitely. You know he's still a good friend of my dad's and and and I still like the. I still root for the bulldogs here. And they're yeah very good I'm trying to do the math. Would that be three or four. Am I care how many what are we on Christian adderall. Wow I know I mean I was born there and I moved to La. When I was about four months old so my dad was a songwriter? And when he finished college knowledge My parents from New York. My Mom was visiting my dad's they had me in buckhead in Atlanta. And then we. We moved to the San Fernando Valley when I was three months told right and My Dad wrote some hit songs and You got any what what what did you dad. My Dad's first big one was Every which way but loose from the clinic the movie Eddie. Raby I was. I was six months old and And then your dad wrote every which way. Yeah so does that mean did you go on the set of every which on the set but I love that. That rang a Tang Clyde but I probably couldn't even talk because those maybe a year old. Okay sure okay really young as I got older. Obviously she's my dad. Then did the the Clinton did like three of those. He did Bronco Billy than any which we you can. My Dad had kind of all a clint's movies for that kind of For certain period or longer than that period and then longer and no but I always gave my dad crap because I said Dad you stop scoring clinched movies when he started making really good like unforgiven had some amazing Movies but now. Yeah Clint And my dad I think. Remain good buddies and You know he's always. I've met him a few times just in my own career auditioning for movies along the way and he's always been really sweet about my dad and nice to me. That's so cool so Stephen Door and the rich Eisen show is there or any I guess growing up in La Any Specific La Sports team. That you Onto I always loved the dodgers. I always you know and that was you know. I always love the Lakers. To have been you know a huge basketball fan. I love basketball. And the clippers are pretty awesome to Ernie a golden age potentially over the next couple years of loss Angeles basketball. The Lakers fans don't want to ever acknowledge that there's could possibly make anything better. I in this town. Yeah I still have love for the you know the purple and yellow. In in a way I think maybe just just because of all the years of being laying going to those games and but So you must be talking about the form the old form form and then yeah into staples but I probably went to more wargames forum. 'cause since showtime now. You're talking about Showtime Lakers. They're talking about worthy and magic and valley with the hair slicked back and all that business. Yeah for sure I think You know for me the For me the I I've just been gone working or I'd be more games this year. You know I'd elect. I'm Kinda every time I see my friend at the staple center and I'm like I want to go to a game but I'm never here right so you got to kind of be here. Look at when you're on a show like deputy. You're you're you you gotta you gotTa work for a living you know and as well so before we dive a little bit deeper deputy true detective. What was that like to be on the third season season of of that show? That was that was awesome. I mean it was You know I I just come from a kind of a not a great spot in my personal life I I lost my little brother and in tragic accident and I was really kind of thinking about skipping out on this whole Hollywood thing for a while. Sorry to hear that. Yeah really Just you know came out of nowhere. Shouldn't have happened and from there. I got this great gift you know from from Nick Piz Lotto An. Hbo Offered Me This incredibly credibly rich part in true detective and the writing was just so incredible in to get to work opposite. Mahershala Ali for three decades and grow old with him with that was a dream. That was a that was a really incredible journey and then after that I did a film hasn't come out yet. That's I'm really proud of to call. Autumn battled which is this kind of family drama set against the backdrop of UFC. So it's a pretty pretty gripping film. I think that'll probably be in the summer summer. Genetic study deputy before deputy I mean. Let's rest on that one right there. Did you get into the world of you have done some mixed martial arts in films like I did a film called Felon and I worked with I worked with a lot of Greg Jackson's team in New Mexico during that filming and I'd met Cowboy and a lot of these big fighters there's Ceremony and Kisha Dean and On the movie we had cowboy was in there too but we had tyron Woodley. We had Kenny Florian we had some really great guys Playing announcers and involved I I worked with a guy named Chris. Connolly's out of Alabama who Is a great trainer and and learned a little little bit more. I mean it was It's a pretty intense film. I play kind of a fictitious lightweight champion but kind of on his way out kind of like a an American conor honor McGregor if If there was one he's a he's a beast of character that would be that very outspoken. Trying to determine how much ass you could kick. Who's asking did you catch Stephen Dorf? I'm more of a lover fighter rich but in the moment divider but I'm just where I roll the same way to My default I heard about you know Yeah no I'm excited about that. I mean it's pretty heavy hitting it was written by the guy that wrote to American history acts and blow David McKenna. He's really talented writer. Time Director Okay and So we'll see how that one goes. Then I and then I went right into a deputy bill hollister deputy right and that's been kind of going for a while so Which deputies a different show than true detective? It's a it's a little more. I think think popcorn is a little more for for the world. You know it's it's not as niche. Maybe of an audience. It's it's really made for America. And why do you say that Stephen Door fear again deputy Episode episode two of season one airs on Thursday night. I think we need to broadcast television. which you know is just so big and it reaches so many more people and I think the commercials is a different way of working. It's a different medium in in a way same time it's I love the fact that it can reach people and I like I like bill hollister because he's kind of a no nonsense kind of anti hero but he also is a he is a good man and he he he has great morals and he throws himself off in the middle of harm's way every day you know for for people that he doesn't know and probably never will know that's his job and there's something about law enforcement in general all that I have huge respect for you know whether it's firemen our Ese. Workers in New York that I I played Scott Strauss and world trade centers. There's an incredible person and I've gotten to know all these great guys who are really the real heroes. You know what we do fact. Yeah it's a fact when we when we do what we do. We try to you know. Give it as much. I try to give it as much realism Eliza. I try to talk to these guys as much as I can. You know we've working with a great guy mark Schlegel on this show. Who is a sergeant in the La Sheriff's department and he's he's just a an incredible person you know? He can't be onset all the time with me. But he's there a lot and he's got a family and a job to do which is putting away bad guys so right but it I've had an incredible Time getting to know these guys and try to do it. Some justice you know again Thursdays at nine hundred time on Fox. How many cats do you have? I got a lot now that I've missing members of my family so I've been kind of going a little haywire. I spent a little more time in the makeup chair. Bill Hollister doesn't have any TAT's I mean it's a makeup a makeup thing. which is you know I? I hate being makeup but you know I had so much practice onto detective tactic like five hours and make up. We were so this is not a bad thing. Twenty twenty minutes we can cover them all. Probably how many to your question. I don't know maybe fifty now. Five five zero. Yeah just my arms really. That's it was the first one you got I one. I got was in Amsterdam when I was seventeen. I was like I got a Celtic Cross. The inside of my arm. That now looks more like a A faded Not Down but it It was cool. Because at this place hanky-panky not in Amsterdam Amsterdam be called hanky-panky. Yeah when he gets there. Yeah even I'm not gonNA live. It sounds very tattoo artists. Were there any red lights nights in that district. There were some red light district and For me Amsterdam was like the sixties back. Then because I wasn't here in the sixties so it it was kind of like just kind of cool. Do you regret any ink that you have Now I never got one for like an ex girlfriend had to change it to like you know you know something else. Friends have but now most of my cats are actually. They mean a lot to me and family members. I got my brother. There got my dad and my mom on your left arm de Okay I was born. Nineteen seventy that's a record for my brother and my brother was a an amazing songwriter. Probably one of the biggest in Nashville Andrew. Dorf he wrote on Blake. Shelton's hit since a songwriting kind of has followed in the in. The background of my family and my brother was really killing it in which which makes me more sad bad that he couldn't really be here through his success. You're still hearing his songs on the radio every day. So well congrats in your successor. Thank you are very welcome. I'm on that front absolutely makes everybody should check out deputy on Fox. It started airing episode one last week episode two on Thursday tonight and Good luck to you. Come back anytime stretch. I'd love to come back. Yeah absolutely. That's Stephen Dorf right here on the rich Eisen show. Don't you dare move will set up the rest of the week in a moment..

"It really does? It's amazing your fault if I had to ask ask you right now Who the starting quarterback is going to be for the raiders? Next year. I snap twenty twenty in that death star. Who's going to be what do you think why? Why are there so many reports I I actually? I've gotten to Texas morning about the post deterred scenarios. I could have possibly heard Tom Brady right. It's Brady right right right. Well did he takes you to now. That's that's Texas. Probably mayock saying. Stop saying that stuff. It's probably probably what the text from Mike. It's it's kind of like you know you look at the pictures of Rocco bomb a bomb Obama in years one and two and then look in year eight and you know the aging process right. It's just accelerated. Its accelerated at EH president until position in the general manager position. I don't know if the death star's tapping our phones our if your phone might be running out of battery but I'm hearing similize. I assume my phone tap eighty one bradshaw that Bradshaw's tapping your phones. How is he how would how would he phone? I don't know So so what do you think's GonNa happen this coming weekend. How you got a big game coming up on Fox Sunday the afternoon seahawks packers? It's the game this weekend with the most quarterback experience Of any of the Games. By far what the real creative quarterback right I. Yeah I know I I I like it I it. It's GonNa be interesting because I think thank Both quarterbacks are I think in a unique position because I figure you know because of the injuries running back in Seattle and you know bring back marshawn Lynch and I think we'll probably see more marshawn lynch this week and injuries to the offensive line on the the really. The the entire offense is kind of put on Russell shoulders and you have to throw at the end of the game. Kinda seal the victory cafes and the kid is pretty amazing You know it's it's als- philosophy of bigger stronger faster. I think you know if you look that up in the dictionary it'd be metcalf and all of a sudden. He's he's a revelation that's been that's been a big big pick up for them and the facets of that offense that they've lacked for a while Opposite lock it and You know will they get people back You know will they potty back they get Brownback That's big for them. If they can do that I think they'd like to. You know of course they'd like to run the ball You L. Lean on Russell but run the ball but last week you know their inability to run the football put so much pressure on on Russell and Philadelphia for stopping the run on so going on the road. It's going to be loud Your defoe defense going to have to play great versus a different kind of green bay. Offense US You know I think Jones's has has really become a I think The kind of peace that maybe maybe Aaron needs to you know take it to the next step which you know. I know he's been trying to do for the last few years That run game has has been I think. Change the change the look of Green Bay packers and new offense and I know head coach coach and part of that part of that was you know I think maybe Ed on course with with Mike and Erin and and now it's on on air and and and the new offense and they made some additions on defense that I think are are really good But they've got to play the Ron Ron and force them into long yard situations up there too tough place to play both from weather standpoint and And also stadium stamp when it says she walk in. It's like system new rock NI shirt. It's act it's the ghost it's the hallowed halls if if you will of Lambofield hey how your phone is beeping quite a bit. I'm going to have you if you don't mind put on hold and Mike del Tufo my sound guys about to talk to you right there. Let's see how he's got like a cell or or a or speaker something like that to speak to how he's GonNa call you call back and see if we're GonNa do this b-plus. He may be an allegiance stadium. That may be out. Sarah now Davis listening death start that start art it really day clearly sat down and said we want it to look like the death star hard. You're I'm glad we offer. It looks freight in the VIC. But don't don't you think the Vegas desert is going to be like a billion degrees or you take that and you like the the heat of a thousand suns but here's the thing about an and you add it added to the Al Davis Spike exists out Davis spend suddenly out by the way. Al Davis spite. It'd be a great fantasy Tan. Got Me these alley back on right now. Are you back there. Howie Better Oh my God I can i? It's so much better back. Oh yeah up here on the mountain and and we do a little crank thing to kind of homework a hamster. It's the hamster on the mountain but he he is union union so we we have to give a breaking understood up and come up right. I saw an image of the death star. Go By.

"You know, when he found a movie, I guess he's going to do some sci-fi movie. But I we all know what the scripts are that are out there. There's not, not right. That's the thing. That's why I think it was so smart to go after Nick, he went after Nick for true detective he did. Yeah. And Nick changed the part for him. Do you have good things to say about Arkansas? Yeah, I had a great time in Fayetteville Fayetteville, and Bentonville, or kind of known for the Waltons basically, as they started WalMart and they've infused so much money made a big art museum down there. Huge. Yeah. Willows. I mean crystal bridges. Yeah. Unbelievable. Yeah. I mean, the Kooning's you know, Edward hopper. Or some of the most incredible paintings you've ever seen. And that's just all Alice Walton just paying back to the community buying amazing paintings and auction and putting them in this free museum. They're not all bad. No. I mean, I you know, they've seen pretty good at it community about a beautiful theater and Fayetteville Fayetteville where we were based is more. More of a liberal little bar town, college town. Right. Really? Nice people. A met made some good friends there. Good. I really liked out ten minutes out of these towns and you've kind of, in your in red state America, surely, we're, we're shit. Hasn't changed in many years for these people they're holding the line. Yeah. I, I kinda would stay in Fayetteville, and then we basically, the show took us on all these incredible journeys through the Ozarks whether it was devil's den to northwest Arkansas, we shot everywhere. That's cool. And, and it doesn't Bateman shoot down there, too. He shoots in Atlanta most. They shoot that show in Atlanta, but you guys friends. Yeah. He's a really nice guy. I've known him since we went to school kids. And I read funny enough I was in Atlanta, and he came up to me, and I hadn't seen him but he congratulated me, he told me how he tried to get our DP, but he got our editor for. "That's the probably his flawn T as I get. But I'm moving you got to drive to flaunt. Yeah. Let me show you where. I live. It's only gonna take you two hours. Now we're going to the club. No, but no. I mean I'm actually moving at amount, but it looks like for Nashville. Well, I got this place and I'm, I'm in the process of Selami spot. So I change. Yeah. Well, I think like, like the, the thing that, that struck me when I when I saw chew detective and I just I, I don't know nothing. I I'm really out of the loop with a lot of stuff until somebody tells me. Yeah. And you know, it was almost like you know, you were you born again, somehow like, you know, like it was like I'd never seen before. And I have of course in everybody has. But like that role it was like what the fuck, where's this coming from? I mean you were always there, but I have to imagine that it's put you on the radar and some whole different way you're different age, and you can fuck and carry a lead. No problem. But also, you know, to do that character with that accent in that, you know, through those generations with the amount of depth. You're able to bring to it was kind of amazing. Thank you, appreciate it. I mean when did you feel that when you were doing it or nether role now I felt a natural. I mean, it's not to make the whole episode our podcast about my brother. But it was weird. It was a weird time. I was in Nashville who's a year coming up on a year of his passing and having a party for his community out there. And Vicki Thomas is an amazing casting director. They were asking. I got a random call while I was in Nashville. Yeah. That I was one of a few people that they were considering for the lead of the neutral, detective opposite, Mahershala Ali ghetto. And I was a fan of my Herschel those I really liked him in. Moonlight really liked him in house of cards. And I thought I, I didn't realize he'd been acting so many years before doing parts and everything, but yes, not having a lead or a supporting role until until recently. Yeah. Pretty much still house. A car. Oh, yeah. Oh, some of that, I guess, so make a long story short. I said, I can't make that that meeting. But I'll be happy to read. You know, on tape or something, but I'm going to Nashville for this, this is what's going on. And I'm at my instinct was, maybe I should call Vicki Thomas. I never get to call casting directors because I'm always usually, they're offered the part, or I pass on the part and the asking process when you're going for the lead or the second lead is not usually you don't usually have to meet the casting director. Right. So I never get to really meet a lot of these cool, cash stretchers that I've known for years that I used to audition, too. So I said, you know what my instinct is, I should call. Vicky. Yeah. And she should hear it from me. What's going on in my life? Yeah. So I was just very honest. And I said, here's the deal. This is what I'm doing. And I have to do it, and I've organized it for a month and a half. And I got two hundred Andrews closest friends come, and she's like you gotta do that. Stephen you come back, soon as you're back. We'll let down on tape, you know, she was like a Mench, like my command. Yeah. So I came back, I laid the takedown next day, I was in HBO and, and the next day I was I wouldn't give me scripts, I'd never you know, up until my offer I hadn't had a script, and I'm like I've never said oh about. Well, I've never said, yes..

"But the you're, you're still the guy from blade big time big time and what but but you've worked with like you did weird that John waters. Movie. Yeah. I love working with John. They didn't want me to do a movie with John either as my agency. They're like, no, no, no. You gotta do this movie. And it was like a movie you've never heard of the one they wanted me to do with John was like his big budget action movie, also. Yeah. Like throwing voice ter- grenades at Melanie Griffith, and it's about film terrorism, and it's like showing an art colleges to this day. I love, John. He's like the coolest. He's still around smartest friend of mine. Mine still. He calls me on my birthday every year. Oh, yeah. This weird. Hi, stephen. It's john. How are you happy birthday? You know, whatever it is weird voice. I love. Yeah. He's great man guy, you could have like like he's the most polite, sweetest guy. You would never know that the guy that comes up with the raunchiest seems like it. I've never. I, I know twenty kill it on this. I should do it. Oh, yeah. He'd be great. I, I mean I should do it before you know it gets too late. And so, like, in terms of these directors, though, like with Oliver Stone that World Trade Center that was like, I remember that came out in, like I thought it was a great movie. But it didn't seem to hang out that long maybe a tough. It's a tough having five years anniversary, when it came out, and it was well made movie. And I thought Oliver did a great job. And I it touched me because I was in New York, ten blocks from that when it happened. I was in a story on my roof. I was in near SoHo getting really the win. When the wind moved, you know, I had to go uptown. I couldn't get out at that point, just want to be with your family, you know, because my mom, I wanted to be with my mom my brother and my dad, I wanted to know is LA next, what Ryan on my generation had never seen so this. Yeah. So nobody had. So that was, it was important that I thought did that film. And, and what was it like working with him? It was cool. It's very, you know, very quiet very intense. I'll really but yeah, it made me work to get that part. And I needed the parks I wanted to show him. I could play. He's like he can't do this to cute for this. I said, well Oliver, I'm an actor. I can, you know, show me what he looks like that. Can I can I can meet Scott talk on the phone?.

"And then you have the other. Well, then you have the other flipside, where you're doing a big movie. That's a big studio movie. There's probably gonna make shit ton of money. It'd be a big hit and I'm working with John hurt but I just didn't like the experience. You know, a movie called mortals. Yeah, I'm on a green screen for five months. And it's just so you're not really doing anything on. It's all dudes naked with apps everywhere. It's just not sexy. And it's pouring. I wanted to kill him working with her. It didn't make working with hurt. And we had a couple of drinks together and God man what a fucking awesome, dude. He wasn't. We had some mutual friends, so, yeah, I never got to act with them really. Unfortunately, who that movie hurt. Oh, he's a huge just around gay that kind of a book end part. You know, he's kind of in the he's great actor. He was great. He's gone now tonight. I know they're all fucking drop them, man. But now when I guess, when you did blade that seem like a big break, right? Yeah. I thought that was the, the ticket the end of my career. Why? Because that was the first time I had said yes to high-concept commercial studio. Movie I had been kind of renegade up until then working with Nicholson. I did a small movie with Mary Harron called I shot Andy Warhol are you? Good that, man, that's a weird little movie. That was great started doing shit. That people were like, why won't you do a hit movie. Why do why won't he play the Hollywood did you like doing the but you I take risks obviously, you are willing to do whatever. Well, yeah. And and blade was just the first one that they came at me hard with I had a big salary, and like, all right. I'll play the villain in this big vampire thing, I'm always like vampires spirit, I could do this. And then, you know, we did it, and then I, I still thought it was going to be the end of my career, and that it was like the biggest movie I've ever done. So I was like this is why did you think it would be the end because how I felt like it was pre marvel it was pre- that, that's all there is today. That was like the first marvel movie, you know, the whole world now is like to find a school drama that, you know, you and some actors could go make a features, very rare these right? They don't maybe a handful of them every year. You know, there's unless you're doing small indie things that sure they're going to fight to try to even get a release you basically in the comic universe now. I mean the thing is that and all those indie movies they, they make it to the screen maybe for a minute. And then you just watch it on Netflix. Come a festival favorite and maybe make it to the, you know, the dancing with the stars ceremony in March or next year. It'll be in June. Because they think he was phone here is isn't it? No more hosts anymore. And they're just going to they're going to let people hosted from their houses on Skype do a contest and the Oscars would be better. If you just gave each person the award and gave the announcement over your podcast. Glendale to get it. Just type a yard just make a little video that they post on YouTube. But it wasn't the I mean so you thought you were a sell out and that was going to be the end. Ian, I did. When I did that one, but now to this day, I still get the, the blade thing everywhere. I mean it's just really. Yeah. This the blade in the gate the gate now that's just for the weird reeks freaks. Right. That's for the freaks..

"You. Yeah. Little like I think a year or something. Yeah. But they were all up for all these roles. But I kept getting these English parts. I'm like, well, I'm American and my ever gonna play my oh, somebody in my own voice, and not have to have a dialect coach. And then finally, those guys started to getting all those roles and I started playing an American what what'd you do? But how old were you? Then like so that was like seventeen. When I did power of one I was nineteen, I think, when I did backbeat and like I'm forty five now how'd you like had you studied acting now? I was basically found in that in my school at a little I went to this little, I was found by this little commercial agent. Lady who said asked my mom if I could go out on commercials kind of said, is that something you wanna do Stephen, and I said, yeah, it's something I wanna do because I'd been with my dad on some set. Right. I saw kids on the set. Yeah. On a school on the set like the hell is this? You know what I want? I want to be with adults and yeah, I didn't want to be in these private schools. I didn't have a great schooling experience in Los Angeles. I never had a teacher that really found that curve. Why did you get kicked out of that camp? It wasn't that I was like expelled. It was more just like I was asked politely. My mom to not have him, come back. You know, having to for being smart as yes. Smart ass class, clown. Yeah. Leaving for three weeks if I got a gig and coming back. With set the wrong for the other kids, where I whereas now they let anybody who's on a series into their school. They don't care giving their books, so actor friendly back then they weren't, then I went to school funding of called the BelAir prep, which was not in BelAir. It was like by Tower Records off Holloway on sunset. Yeah. Yeah. West Hollywood called it air prep, which I never understood at Jason Bateman went there. And I went there with drew Barrymore. We were kind of in seventh eighth grade together. And we, we were the valley kids, we took this van to over the hill. So I'm the school, take them pick you van. Yeah. But pick up the valley kids, so we'd go over there, and I remember going to school there. And then I ultimately got my diploma on the power of one in Africa where they sent it to me in a I got it in a in a FedEx or something. I don't know if some UPS thing and I realized, I graduated high school. I got it from school called Montclair prep. Yeah. Which was a private school jersey. Now it was it was in. It was in the valley, but they were just like the headmaster was just, like I don't care if you act if you play football come to us, and we'll give you whatever you need, you know, he was like it was awesome. So I have my teacher my private tutor, and then I got my work from there and I love blah, blah got deployed. I got my diploma. But I was about to go to college before I got that movie because I couldn't get a movie. So I'll in for all these feeder just like you just started doing commercials when you were gay commercials. And then I did this horror movie that a lot of SCI fi horror, people love called the gate. So I didn't know what acting was cult movie. Yet did really well, and like people like Tarantino like they worship this. That's all they talk about when you are in that. Yeah. I've done three decades of other movies, but the always mentioned the gate that that's the one for that. Oh, yeah. And you're like sixteen. I was like twelve well that had a bowl haircut. My grandma came with me, and I was up there for like six weeks in Canada. And I was like this is cool. I just have to scream, and she. Rockets into teams wherever you're that guy. The gate. Yeah. And so, but, but so you really just learned on the job. Yeah. Pretty much, you know. And then it was really like kind of once I got into, like I got it some TVs things I got on Roseanne..

Maybe you know there's partying I'm gonna pick those up on my way home. And if I do quit over those, I'm going to thank you forever. No good. Erin. Well, I think the thing about these, like, is opposed to do in the baby stuff is like it gets you. Out of the habit of the thing, because I don't think you like I like I don't do that anymore, like I have to smoke when I'm on the show among glow. I got I gotta smoke those fake cigarette. It's a fucking nightmare. Oh, and they're terrible, too. Because when you when you when you when you kinda go to ask him, they break. So you the whole behavior of smoking is terrible with those herbals like this great stories and funny shit with me, and my Herschel in that car because so much of us is in that car talking intruder attack you. Right. And he's smoking too, though he smoking. But, you know, now it's legal. I mean you have to on a stage which we do a lot of those car scene. Yeah. They had a gag reel of literally every scene, where the windows cracked, and it's like fuck at great. Great rhythm with this tough line, and the cigarette there's no coming back from that because it's like Roque Faulk. Yeah. Then there was another one where mersal doesn't smoke anyway. So you know, he's try. To act in this thing, and he's doing a good job. But he drops the cigarettes in the cherries under him on this. And I'm like, oh, I got it. I got it. And so they had all these moments in the gag reel. It was I was I just was like. just like fuck. It's smokes getting in my eye all the time. Herbals smoke. It's like oregano going in your? I don't know what it is. And how is it not fucking bad for you? Like we're all smoking those onset, but it's nose like bad. We'd like that. We'd, but it's gotta be burning your lungs, Scott. Yeah. Can't be good. Well, that was the thing when I watched true detective because I hadn't watched one since I think I watched the first season second one, I didn't lock into. Yeah. But then I've turned the, the new one on. And I'm watching, how do you say his name Herschel Marshall, and like who the fuck is that other guy? Really good. I don't think I've ever seen it before. And then like, it's fucking Stephen Dorf what the fuck. And so he gets so good house. He's, he's so fucking good says somebody sent me a text or a Twitter about people pay attention, and that was like, oh, is that? That's a good thing. And everybody was like, yeah. That's that's fucking good. And all these people started calling really people nice people like I mentioned, the Alec Baldwin saying, nice things I was just like it makes you feel good. I mean, Nick Nick is a lot of gave me just such an amazing role. Played a lot of thing. But I just love that role of Roland. Somebody said it was a very funny tweet. Someone said you were like a young old Jack Nicholson, when I'm old. I heard jacket. That's funny. I love Jack, he's a he's an old buddy of mine too. That's how I met Angelica because I was a young kid who I wasn't that, you know. But I was say twenty two an I met I did a terrible movie with Dennis hopper which one. We've already had this long dinner as a family. Yeah, we've already kind of experienced this weird since wired into our improv. Wow. It's kind of cool. I mean I love working with her. She's been on your show. I think so few yeah, yeah, it was like, yeah, the I think she's great great lady. Yeah. And I like that movie I thought was really great. She definitely is able to create a a like a tone. Pictures? Somewhere. Oh, yeah. And I for some reason, like, when I saw it, there was part of me that was sort of. I took I saw it as a documentary. I hope that Dorf Saul right? I get my mind. I'm like, I haven't seen him in a while and in anything, so this is probably just pretty close to his life, but it wasn't. It wasn't really. I mean it was kinda Johnny Marco's kind of I would ask the fee. I sit at my plan somebody where my plan myself I might play because I'm an actor up yet Acura, most of my life, and she said, no, it just I wrote it with a blend, but you're really the embodiment of what I want it to be. But don't play Stephen and don't live in Malibu. She said because I don't want you tan and. Yeah, healthy and in the ocean, I want you pasty and hung over, and I want you living in the Chateau the way you would if you were in a darker period of your life. I said, so you're gonna pay me to live at the Chateau and get wasted every night. And just do my thing. And she say pretty much like awesome. And what was funny was I was in a healthy place in my life. And then I was like an my job was to go the opposite. That'd be one thing if I was down and right. And dirty when she wanted me and I was like, oh, I could just walk into this. But it was I was kind of in a healthy zone eating healthy. Oh, yeah. Up early. Gang. Yeah. It was like she waves. Yeah. I got I got through ways, I'm I like I like training because, you know, it's funny you mentioned the smoking because really at the end of my, and he rope, I think I'm getting to that point. I do. I mean it's like as much as I loved it, you know, I mean I haven't smoked in like a long time like, but I can't get off the fucking nicotine. If I do shit just gets too, boring, because I, I, I've been sober a long time. And so that's gone. And like I've gotten off a everything he just got to have something. Yeah. And you don't want it to be food. No. Or fucking. Yeah. I mean you get to old and it's like, you know, you're gonna you're gonna leave a it's, it's not what else could it be besides food? I never been a gambler. So ain't gonna do that. That's just dumb. It is dumb right? Love it. I mean I got I love sitting at a blackjack table with with, you know, but it is the dumbest thing. No winning. And then he key. I, I don't know. I think that in order to really get that bug. You gotta have, you know, better a lot of money and one, a lot of money at some point. Yeah. Just so you at least hit the high and left on the five or playing fucking ten dollars twenty five our hands of blackjack all night. You think you're crazy plus the whole night's gone. I came from this really tight knit family for a kid that grew up in LA. As a son of a songwriter, which was kind of in the background. But at the same time went to school with all these movie stars kids, and how you rich kids. Yeah. So it was a very weird with hit songwriter. Yeah. On ABC's I when we were living in this little apartment onto Hong avenue. I was born in seventy three my dad wrote every which way but loose from the clearly movie. Yeah. Eddie rabbit. And so, then my dad kind of made some money, then he wrote through the years by Kenny Rogers. He wrote some countries you Anders. Yeah. Big standards. He's, he's had like, I think thirty thirty something number once. Wow. Am I little brother all country pretty much? I mean, Merle haggard you know, which one Coca Cola cowboy was he is he a country guy that really was just a real? He just got him with those artists. And once he got in with a Clint a lot of those movies, we're very country friendly and right. He did kind of all those we got him with Glen Campbell and started writing. And he did a lot for George strait wrote all his hits. Really? Yeah. Big, you know the tweens guy. Yeah. Queens guy on a little dia. In piano, upright. He was like. Little jewish. Jewish kid. It was a Jewish guy right in the country him married. A Catholic girl. My mom who's just our mom. And she talion or IRA had a time enter into China polish. Wow. Yeah. I like this store. I like the that the Jews it like I'm a Jew. But like, you know, when you find out stuff like most of the marvel universe was created by Jewish writers. Oh, you just sort of see. Yeah. It's sort of I keep them entertained. So they don't kill us. So you so when you you grew up like in the valley initially we brought up Jewish at all not really. I mean, it was kind of a weird thing in my family, because it was that real my dad's side of the family, my grandparents on that side we have, there was a little of that weirdness like attention like getting married. There was some tension there. Really? Yeah. I was some they really Jewish. Yeah. They were really Jewish, right, there was that pressure. But then my mom would want us to go to church, and look at me an Andrew, you know, on Easter Sunday kind of did the Catholic thing for my mom. Right. But not I wouldn't say very heavy religious home. Yeah. But there was no pressure for me to get a bump. Go to have a bar mitzvah for. Oh, yeah. I ended up learning some Hebrew. I think that when an American says something abroad that it tends to, to resonate in a way that, you know is different. It's just like who the fuck is outsider. You mother fuck I get it. I get it man. There's certainly a lot of cities in America that are not unlike Hamilton in that they were once great industrial centers and they've since. You know, that industry has moved on. And what it's left is usually, you know generational. Poverty drug addiction destitution desolation. You know, I you know, industrial garbage and I and I understand I in a lot of those cities, I love, and I certainly didn't mean to, to be sort of insensitive to the struggles of, of a city that's in that position in any country, and even here in A in the we have an always a constant escalating real estate market with an influx of new people coming in pushing people out in, we have literal ten cities along the highways and a huge one downtown, but the issue really was is that I didn't really know much about Hamilton, and I was staying downtown and I, I saw what I saw and it was it was sad. But exciting and I knew there had to be some city problems. But I didn't realize really, you know, coming into it that you sort of you're up against this sort of nostalgic civic pride, that is, is sort of, you know, reluctantly, or not so reluctantly aligned with an aggressive, you know, rebranding of the city, you meant is an invitation to new investment that might change the makeup of the city does not necessarily solve endemic issues of poverty or waste. But I guess if you just believe in the rebrand, you can romanticize the marginalization of larch junkier population, but the city is a beautiful city and nice time. They're nice people. And you know, there's not as they're not unlike other parts of Canada. There doesn't seem to be the menace. That there is in America, and in that might be just because in general sense, candidate may treat their, their poor better. Or, or it's just not the way that goes there. But I do I love Canada, and I do feel relaxed there, and I did have a nice time, and if my dark poetry, that was not critical but engaged bothered you, I hope you feel that I've balanced it out, because I did have a nice, nice bowl with keen, waas wheat potatoes, some kale, and, and some, it was a with a nice to Heaney dressing at a place called democracy. And that down there on, I think walk street, is it, and I did have an another nice sort of raw based, a bowl and other place called green bar. The new one down on lock street. So I see the movement. And and there's a lot of beautiful little homes here. But man, where I was staying in the few miles out of drive go to base camp. It was wild wild and sad. But on the other side of town, the bowls were nice and the homes were nice seemed to be nice greenery next time head to the waterfall. Else here those beautiful waterfalls. I will do that.
