"Have to step back 30 years to win this fight over the forests began the podcast series Timber Wars produced by Oregon Public Broadcasting. Is about how the fight over old growth force and a bird called the Northern spotted owl helped turn environmental conflicts into culture wars over how we manage our force today. Today we're re airing a show they produce for us from earlier this year. Reporter Aaron Scott starts the story with the protests that became known as the Easter Massacre. The Pacific Northwest has an image for many folks. It's one shaped by episodes of Portlandia, You know lots of Subaru's brunch lines and flannel Also nineties grunge music and tech giants like Microsoft and Amazon. Before all that the Pacific Northwest was a sleepier place, a damp corner of the country largely outside the national spotlight. It was a region dominated by a single industry. Logging. I started in the timber industries basically out of high school. Stefan Weaver lives in ST in Oregon. For a lot of his life. He worked as a tree faller also called the timber cutter. Basically, it was his job to cut down colossal trees with a chainsaw and shout timber. Yeah. You had a lot of pride in what you did. Some of 99% of the timber cutters. Did there was that one or 2% that were just there for the buck. But some of the best timber cutters came out of the Detroit Canyon. Detroit Canyon is inside Oregon's Willamette National Forest. It's home to some of the biggest and oldest trees in the world. Douglas fir, western, red, cedar, western hemlock, They can tower 300 ft into the air and stand eight FT wide. They feel like pillars holding up the sky, which is maybe why folks who saw them disappearing felt like the sky was falling for really all started with that North worry Devil sale, and it's impossible to pin down exactly when the timber wars started because they had a different beginning for everyone involved. For Stefan. It was in 1989 in these forests at the timber sale called the North Roaring devil. There was a lot of things that went on up there. Mm hmm. Back in March of 1989, Detroit Canyon was blanketed in snow. Still, Stephens bosses wanted him in there cutting we were snowmobiling in. We'd have to make two or three trips, you know, because we didn't have a dozen snowmobiles, but it was just a mess. The U. S. Forest Service makes up names.

Talking about buying American has got a bunch of American made cars and trucks bind and he just said, I have a 67 Corvette. It's brand new. I think he meant to say it's in mint condition. I hope so. The President President Trump is being blasted in a new book from Bodh Bob Woodward, suggesting that he knew weeks before the first confirmed Corona virus death that the virus was pretty dangerous that it was airborne that was highly contagious. But he was telling Bob Woodward over the course of a few months that he repeatedly played it down publicly because he didn't want to cause panic. We have some of those tapes that Bob Woodward has put out there. We'll play some of those for you little bit later in the later in the show. Well, it looks like on the same day a report accusing Ellen of tormenting her household staffers was published. The Ellen de Generous show announced it will return. She? She said in this statement. I can't wait to get back to work and back to our studio. And, yes, We're gonna talk about it. Let's go to the Knick desk for Nick's a story time, guys. Hey. Nah. Nick? Yeah, Eso allegedly her, according to her house cleaning staff. She was very particular about certain things around the house of Salt Shaker was out of place should be furious. Her lot a foam needed to be a certain foamy nous. But every day they would get better and better at making less mistakes, and apparently she didn't like this either. So she would lay little traps around the house like hiding matchsticks. And putting things out of place. So that she could yell at them from guess s o. They would see it, You know, like, wiser a matchstick there and then they would find another match. They could be like, Oh, my God. They're more magic. So what if she sees this? She's going to lose it. This is very sleeping with the enemy. Yeah, very, very weird. Got to make sure those Labels on the cans line up in the cupboard. Or else you're gonna have to swim in the ocean to get away from Ellen. That's what happened and sleeping with the enemy. Oh, boy, According to this news release, Stephen Boss, the onset deejay currently and recently I should say promoted co executive producer is going to guest host some of the episodes of this show this fall. He came out in August and said there may be some things to address. Or I should say there are some things to address, but from my standpoint and from countless others, there's been love. Now. It was back in May, when everybody was so bored with the Corona virus that they came out and started telling stories. About Ellen. Too generous. It was revealed that she was not as nice as she seems. Within several weeks, dozens of former staff members alleged multiple multiple incidents of sexual misconduct, harassment and assault. From top executives on the show. She issued an apology. But this is going to be quite a 1st 1st episode back on the Is that where was during two weeks almost two weeks. Walking dead is going to end its AMC Siri's 2022. They said. The 11th season will be the last, but it's going to be an expanded to year 11th season because everybody learned In the Harry Potter movies. You can't just make one final movie. You have to make two So they're going to do a two year 11th season 20 for episode final Season of the Walking Dead Well, it looks like the fall TV season is going to be made up of fallback plans. This is, of course, the time to shine the fall season. But there has been quite the scramble behind the scenes because of the cove. It There's an initial lineup out got a lot of reality shows game shows talent competitions for mounts that resume production first, and we're turned around quickly. ABC, for example. We've got shows like the Bachelorette supermarket sweep. A new Siri's following 911 operators. Emergency call. Cool emergency comedies and dramas like the Good Doctor Just got back on sets last week. Yeah, in Vancouver. Where it's cheaper to do production. Now they're also saying that when you do see these original shows that are being produced on a very small scale, but they aren't being produced around here. You'll see masks on some of the background actors. I pointed this out in the final season, a West world There were a lot of people wearing masks, but it was set in the future. It wasn't because they produced it recently. They I mean, they worked on this thing a year ago, year and a half ago, long before Corona virus was the thing. They just assumed that people would be wearing masks at that time, and they were dead nuts on So not that nuts, and you're going to see a lot more, They said background actors with masks on you're going to Seymour interior scenes because producers can shoot more efficiently using indoor sound stages, and, of course, in lieu of those live studio audience is on the sitcoms. They're going to rely on a lot of canned laughter. Well, the Oscars are changing the standards for diversity when it comes to best picture contenders. The academy has decided it will require films competing for best picture to meet criteria aimed at fostering a more.

"ABC is Kaylee Hartung reports, three of the show's senior producers fired after accusations the show created a toxic culture since I preached kindness every day. This is a big one for me, too generous, apologizing to more than 200 staffers in a video conference call, according to variety. The award winning host at one point breaking down in tears, basically said she had no idea that this is what life was like on set. If even just the nature of the show of her employees should love coming to work. No question too generous, saying she wasn't perfect and realized that some leaders were not a sensitive to human beings as they should have been. Adding that reading disturbing allegations about the atmosphere on the show was heartbreaking. Those allegations, first reported by Buzzfeed, detailed sexual misconduct and harassment by several top producers. As dozens of former employees spoke out anonymously. Shean Away reaffirmed her commitment to the show as well and Ellen with, you know, sort of two of her other legacy producers. Will step in and sort of take the reins and say they'll guarantee again everyone's safety, health and dignity on such multiple sources also telling variety, Ellen took on the rumors that staffers and guests were told not to address her or even look her in the eye. Calling them crazy and not true. She described herself as an introvert sources saying she apologized to anyone who felt disregarded twist. "Then everything just continues on. I Guess Roz GonNa get smashed, no smackdown Wednesday nights probably GonNa get smashed, but. If you present. A wrestling product. That your fans enjoy. Then life will continue on. What do I mean by that well? If you watch raw and smackdown, and you watch eight W, it's abundantly clear that they are promoting different types of professional wrestling. In fact, one of these even promoting pro wrestling, one of them is promoting sports entertainment. The other one is promoting pro wrestling. So. If Awa is promoting their show in a way that makes their fans happy. Then if sports if live sports come along on Wednesdays, and some of those fans decide, we're going to Dvr the show and we're. GonNa Watch sports live. Then when the sports are over, they will go back to that wrestling show. Now is is w e I mean they're? They're at all time lows. Are they giving their fans what they want? Well I would say that they're giving some fans what they want because they have one point eight one point, nine million people still watching every week, but Those four million people that tuned in for the smackdown on Fox debut in October less than a year ago. Well, they're not giving those people what they want. Those two million people that quit, so let's the question. Are they giving people what they want? And are they giving them something or when sports and they will come back, but if you think that sports coming back is going GONNA. Doom pro wrestling in the places are GONNA business. That's not gonNA. Happen Buddy come on. Not The major companies you know the only companies you should worry about right now. Going out of business or your small locals and this has been a battle for. A W in Ohio with Ohio. Decreeing that nothing is going to run I. God knows what it's like out there for you guys in Seattle. Probably, get hold that farmer and find out with the FI and everything you know. What are the plans you know you? How solvent are a lot of these people in these companies you know even beyond the which was able to to latch onto a show on a show called the two weeks notice. They latched onto the w homecoming show on the Pier and Atlantic city this weekend, but drew Cordeiro had A. A A tweet He was either yesterday or last night about you know we don't know what the future is going to be. And you saw what you know. How big beyond is and where they were able to take things and how big the youtube show got, and all that stuff and you see where they're at right now and they were really at the forefront of trying to push things forward so. It is really frustrating right now. How many companies have to up and move? You know is? It's pointed out in our twitch chatty. I W trying to find places run outside of Ohio W lot in Indiana just because Indiana has had where they've run, his had a good set up. And you know things seem to be open there for sure w even south obviously had a show where everybody was packed close together filthy Tom Rustled on show on Friday night. Which I'm sure you'll talk about with the the paradigm show. That had Stephen Boss Stephan Bonner on it and he wrestled Calvin tank men on that show, and it seems to be a lot of shows running in Indiana. So how many? Companies have to pick up and move to go to a different location. Who you know moved from Georgia to wherever something like that I I don't know, but it's going to be really interesting in those are the companies I most worry about in this time because wwe. Annex T and we're not an extended at eighty W and new Japan those companies. The major companies are going to be there. No matter what impact. Obviously, he's been rolling along our waitress, sitting in the cut for sinclair, so those major companies. I'm not worried about it all, but we have a lot of concern over what the Indie is going to be because this is a lot of ebbs. Ebbs and flows anyway in wrestling others good times, and there's bad and you know there's ups and downs, and we've been writing a high for a long time. There was a big boom in Japan. There was a big boom in the UK. There was a big boom for women's wrestling big boom for independent wrestling than we had mid major independent wrestling yet major a w, the bigger the beyond. Ws a bigger indies that were running that blew up in all. This was probably due for a little bit of a fall. And now we're really getting that fall. You know with the help of Covid, and it's just it's. Any change you have probably support your indies. Now's going to be a good time to do it. Spurs here's. How much do we have to cheer to get you and Mike to wear the same shirt one day while we'd have to be in the same room and it would be very uncomfortable and if you've got, you saw too much chest today. At be even worse. A Skoda's has no hair. One of US probably too much Joel. You're on the line. What's going on? Jay Dave from Kansas, city. Oh, Hey, Jay! What's going on got a weird phone caller ID but go ahead. my question. Is that Um? What if they get rid of the grant of us and east, brand, smackdown and raw have their own lead up to a full week's special events, maybe minimize commercials like an exceeded to boost our ratings, and maybe the five people view major pay per views they can sell it to ESPN and making a bigger event,.

"A little perturbed. There was a legal fight. She won she sold the bag. And then now she says that after she sold at NASA stole the dirt out of it. All okay, I got it. So apparently we have moon theft moon theft. This not good. Let's see what else. Do the news, by the way, Bret Baier and his family were involved in a car accident. What's not good while they running in Montana yesterday? Fox News AM anchor. There's no one in Montana. How bad of a driver. Do you have to be to not only encounter someone else in Montana, but hit them? Well, I know I think that they skidded off the highway or something I'm not quite sure according to the hill, Mr. bear is forty eight. He has a wife two sons released a statement to describe the the thanked those who helped them after a weekend of skiing with my wife and two boys in Montana driving to the airport. Monday morning on icy roads, we were involved in a major car crash. Thanks to a man driving by named. Excuse me, driving by name Zach who stopped and helped we were able to climb out of the flipped car. And thanks to the first responders the Montana highway patrol. We made it to the hospital quickly. We're very grateful to all of those who helped us out. My to everyone is always wear your seat belt and account your blessings every day. So that's good. At least he's okay. And I think he was back on last night because I saw unless it was an old clip. I saw a time stamp within the last. I think it was last seven or eight hours at showed a clip of him. Look like he was on last night. He didn't. Of course, you know, the TV people put out a lot of makeup. So if he had any sort of bangs or bruises he looked all right? But you know, good news there. You think what you want about Fox News? But you don't want any of the people getting hurt. Oh, no, no, nobody wants people getting hurt. No. No. That's not good. Any idea when Covington Catholic archdiocese will be able to reopen the diocese? We don't know. We're we're seeing now that the school. They've apparently come up with some sort of security plan with the Kenton county cops. So they're they're going to be back today. It's probably going to be just the sight of Fort Knox type security, but they'll be back today. Here's what I'm wondering too. Because Scott you're putting out yesterday that the number four ranked boys program or something they were supposed to have a game last night. I'm not quite sure. But regardless. Yeah. The ranked fourth in the state right now, I think twenty one and five is a record. Don't quote me on that. They were supposed to play Campbell county last night. Okay. When I looked at. There was no score today for either team. So I assume that they did not play last night. Which is really it's sad for the kids involved in this. Because you you have kids Galway ranked fourth in the state having a banner season. And now something totally out of their control. They've got to shut it down in of course, anywhere they go. Now, they're going to have this sort of cloud around them of of what have you? So. So, but yeah, I don't know when the basketball team's going to get back in. I don't know what that's going to do to the standings. I don't know how you calculate. They obviously can't drop them in the ranking. And also what kind of security now if they come to visit your school to play. What do you have to think about now from school security situation? Right. Think about just their home games. Yeah. You're to have to it's going. You're probably gonna have to go through something similar to what you do at the probably going to go through some sort of metal detector because I think you have to do it for the away games. Because that's what I've talked about the way games you're going to have. I mean now you're gonna have the the fans that were that are there for the true purpose of seeing the game. They're not there because they want to. Exacerbate the situation that happened in Washington? I mean, there's no that happened. It's out there, and it will have to be dealt with by the proper channels and whatnot. That's fine. But ninety percent of the people who go to these basketball games are there like we do when we go to any sporting in. But you're there to turn off the real world. You're there to see a basketball game. It's supposed to be this this relief from the the mayhem that is life. And you're going to get a lot of people who are gonna see this as an open venue now to access the campus and do or say something when I put up posted last night, the Cincinnati Enquirer story, or I think it was the Enquirer story about how the archdiocese was closed until further notice, basically. Got a lot of response and Stephen boss, the UK political science professor that comes on the show. He had a really interesting take about a lot of the stuff. He said opinion formation through social media is no more sophisticated than any other mob mentality. So for all the people that are claiming mobs on on all sides, right, regardless of how things were handled and everything else. He's right. We do are prone to do that. We kinda start taking sides here and there and everything else, and none of us really have the whole clear picture. We have the picture that we see. And or believe in the preconditions that we all have internally that may make a see things that way. But doesn't mean.
