"John so which means bitterly and the real medicine as they watched the chimp together. She finished peeling the bark and began chewing on the stem. She did not swallow it however but spit out. The chewed remains only ingesting. The bitter sap huffman doubts. The sap is quote an acquired taste consumed for gusta tori purposes. The flavor is exceptionally foul. Jane goodall wants performed an intriguing experiment which probably has some bearing on huffman's observation when she gave sick chimps bananas laced with the antibiotic tetracycline they readily devoured them however when she offered the same drug late and fruits to healthy chimps they refused them huffman and kalindi continued to follow the chip which made a rapid recovery prior to consuming the plant sap. The chimp was suffering from constipation. melas and lack of appetite a day later. She made a spectacular recovery. The researchers had trouble keeping her insight as you began climbing ridges at a rapid clip. Of course a single observation of a single. Sick chimp cannot be considered convincing proof in and of itself yet. In december of ninety one the research team made similar observations added credence to the theory. Huffman day observed another sig champ eating bologna and managed to test their hypothesis as they tracked the chimp. They collected samples of her droppings for laboratory analysis. At the time of the first collection the stools contained one hundred thirty nematode eggs per gram less than twenty four hours later. The egg level reduced to fifteen program and the chimp had resumed hunting an energy intensive exercise that she appeared unable to perform the day before when the researchers calculated exactly how much of the plant. The animal had ingested. They found that her dosage was almost identical to that taken. By ailing tribes people the period of recovery twenty four hours was identical for both people in chimps and though the plant was a common and available year-round chimps tended to consume it only during the rainy season. "Aloofness about him but he's never going to deflate or or sort of win the crowd back because he appears not to care. I don't know if that's the case but that's what it appears to be and he doesn't really seem to have a lot of self awareness about these things. No and he's done incredible job of railroading his image in the last few weeks gets wild. This greek atanas persona. Oh flitting through the atp. Just having swarms of fans follow him. If fierly through the skies it was fairy tale thing with him for awhile and what that ended up being a lot of blinders due to his whiteness and his looks meaning a lot of benefit of the doubt that has been given to him over and over and over and over again because of who he is on what he looks like. Frankly let's be real and so no all the sheen has come off of stephanos pizzas and i found for myself watching this unfold. The thing that really bugged me is that stephanos does not give the impression or show at all that he gives a damn about other people on score. It's all about him. The centeredness is unmistakable. And in twenty twenty one still in the middle of a pandemic. that is not something that i can allow to seep through my bandwidth. Well i mean this is coming shortly after the whole vaccine thing. There's young out about and like this is not forget that this is not meant to be An assassinate bosses character. You know these past ten minutes but andy. Murray attempted to assassinate his character on live television. It was really something to behold unlike television and then in the press conference and then the next two days on twitter now. That's what really surprised me was the next day. Because andy andy is right. And that's why a lot of people including myself love him or one of the reasons but he's also a grown man yes and he's also he doesn't really. He's not somebody who picks on his colleagues. He's asked something answer you honestly but aside from the What's his face. The everybody hates you incident soul the soul incident. He's not somebody who goes after his fellow players on a personal level. I don't think right. But i'm saying this. He did and it was for me. Too much and unnecessary pylon and beneath him. Frankly like it was good for a laugh is like whoa. Did he really do that. They did it again. And it's like okay like this is entirely superfluous. You can make your point without being that snarky about it and you and you have already made your point. Yeah yeah now. As a result of all that controversy in the meritas much everybody was on high alert for any breaks any with of gamesmanship throughout the week. So some people were noticing. Jensen brooks b.'s. Costume changes. he was like diana. Ross out there. Sometimes he made it so easy because it was a different color shirt every yes red black. Obviously critique of a bud man the the fans and the broadcasters were on high alert for the stuff there's nothing they like more than o'clock to come down something only god time since last point. The length of bathroom break clock. And if you're coming from outside of tennessee must think this whole thing is so ridiculous because how can a sport which presumably is led by smart people presumably. What a presumption. How have we not figured out how to handle this. Like if you know. Coaching is another thing. If we had a whole segment on that we'll leave that the show but one of our listeners submit the other day on twitter suggested well. This is such a problem. All the time with these strategic breaks. Why not just institute a break right like a ten minute break before deciding set. That's that's an option. And that's why i say with like with murray. Let's say you're a player who's going to be really hurt by cooling down more than others. If you enshrine a rule that may actually just become part of the sport right if you can't can handle that cooling down period than you are at a disadvantage but it takes away that the tactic it allows both players to take a break it allows fans to go get food and everything because once a match starts. You know from experience if you want anything. If you've got to go to the bathroom as a spectator you better move. And then you're going to be standing in the tunnel for a while before you're back in and instead of the dread of watching your opponent and waiting for the mess to happen. You are then able to look forward to maybe having bicycles on the court stationary bikes. Shore will say that. Well i'm gonna get through this fourth suit. I know that there's going to be ten minutes. I will then spend the those ten minutes on the stationary bike. And keeping warm while i can block out whatever is happening on the other side of the court and then we come back and we reset because this tournament has seen more five-set matches than we've seen in forever like it's crazy. How many much as we've had the narrative doesn't always have to be our five-set matches good for tennis. It could be. How can we make five-set matches better for thames. Are we managing them. The correct way. If you institute like a sort of mandated break as if he rules in under something then one player doesn't have to waste all their emotional energy being pissed off at their opponent right for taking a break. And i'm not saying that's the perfect solution but that's one one example of the way you could address the issue. It just seems silly that that this is what we're talking about and most of the media are talking about for the first week of a slam. Something that was actually well done and uplifting and good progress in tennis was the fact that we had v most. Lgbtq i eight plus visibility. We've ever had at a grand slam jes so we you know we always call out the bad but it's really important to recognize when folks Just show up and do something cool. So pride day was this week at the us. Open tuesday and guito pila came out in rainbow gear. And you know it's nice. See a player do this and not have it be like image rehabilitation. Just did it to do it of think. Maximo gonzalez was another one. Who did it in his doubles man. A yeah pam shriver had her rainbow wrist bands on court for the interviews and a bunch of male players were asked about it in whereas asked Essentially what would happen in the atp if someone came out. We're no at a place now where we're not just relying on murray. We're not relying on us in. Who we met in the last episode was in fact. Steffano cordova junior. This is senior when steph. No junior was growing up. His dad was working as a corporate chef. Catering big events golf tournaments tennis matches and senior would sometimes ask junior to step in was fifteen sixteen seventeen so a kid you know walking the us open where you have to deal with The top of the people in the world or maybe it was kind of the opposite. Maybe he wasn't involved in his son's life enough. My job was betty demanding in terms of travel and not spending too much time. Family actually overworked. That's one of my biggest. That are granted. I over work in that time or maybe it was the divorce when stephanie was fourteen and start to show here on that and so forth i started to feel the distance and the fear of losing him. Stephanos senior did. Talk to stephanie o. Junior about using drugs. He'd seen addiction takeover as friends as a kid in italy. When i grew up ihram. I know i left or my friends. Same age with you know smoking a couple of john here. By the time. I came back few years later on everybody was on cooking and so forth and two years later i would say ninety nine percent edite and yet stephanie went from smoking weed and high school and college to using oxy and twenties and then onto heroin when he started to run out of money litter on. Don't he told me that he was using it because it was almost broken. Cheap and five dollars to get a bag as this is only one thing that you can do. And that's move me move home. He means added to mind if you live me for his life. I enjoyed him. Stephanos senior and doreen stephanos mom. They helped steffano through a series of rehabs when steph. Junior was living in florida before moving out to boston. His dad would come with him to na meetings and sit outside waiting for him to literally fend off the dealers who stalk the meetings because they know that's where people struggling with addiction are. That's where the businesses stephanos tried taking responsibility for managing his sons finances for awhile. Junior asked for this by the way handed over his savings and told him to keep them safe because he knew that if it was in his hands he'd spend it on drugs and then i got a call from him that he was in trouble with money that you know you almost got arrested again. Dad said come home again. Stephanos said no no. I'm good. i'm getting together and stephanos senior. Basically thought that was bullshit by. He gave the money back. I can't leave it with the risk that you're going to commit a crime Go to jail or whatever it is you know to hurt in one way or the other because you have no money to pay for the rant to pay for you know the alpha whatever it is so i just release the money to him and it probably kept him safe for a few years the month before stephanie junior died he and his dad had entered a new phase of their relationship a grownup relationship. I mean he really did because he is going to have to play well from the job. Alcatraz and then and then catch mono- venture rendered nature. Whoever it is i. Think cam norway's first two rounds are going to be extremely difficult. Oh and by the way. Let's just say he gets through those. Then he's got stephanos city positive around which i mean. I mean nick curious he could be in there as well. there are a bunch of them in this section. My most dangerous sections of the draw where the ex-pm or fritz demon our for some and the nuri. Al cast menovich render nash. For some like those. Those are absolutely brutal also going to be absolutely exceptional tennis. Here's what i would throw at you. I wanna positive theory you tell me yes or no air. Bear versi pass. I'm not saying they're bear wins it but that game style for since two fouls on his back foot. If i tell you four set win for seats you pasta. Does that surprise you Yeah yeah i. I'd say I'll go straight sets okay. That's fair now. I i'm curious. Because traditionally in the past although seats spouse now top twenty five in break percentage sort of player but the into the backhand returns the serve involves that would have given him trouble two three years. Yeah and look. This is gonna lead us into our predictions for this disaccord here. He i know the recent like that last match where we saw stephanos cincy poss- up double break in the third set on sphere of the semi's of cincinnati like and that is leaving a sour taste in some people's mouths in that was brutal. What for for sixty plus. That was back that was bad. You cannot lose that match in that type of situation. But let's pump the brakes like walk. Unpicking steph cincy pasta. Make it through this section. I absolutely am my quarterfinal. Matchup is cissy pasta. It's been so but thank you to the highway patrol's roadside assistance. So that was very nice. Yes i the guy was very very nice so there me and you both i. If you've ever lived in south florida for a number of years. You remember the story of austin and perry sore This was probably wanna and it ended up being national and international news but for us locally. It really hit home gym little kids. Fourteen years old They went out fishing. They were in a boat having a grand old time. They were both told. And i and i paraphrase here. Because i don't have all the you know the details in front of me again. But i remember covering this story They were told. Don't leave the and they left the inlet. yeah these two little boys austin stephanos and perry cohen. Six years ago tomorrow left the jupiter inlet and no one ever saw again so last yesterday at jupiter inlet blue stephanos who is austin's father and a foundation. That is named in honor of his son. They unveiled a new statue. It's dedicated to watch over all anglers and a reminder of all the lives lost at sea. it's a beautiful statue of like Men and women looking at yeah So it was placed there yesterday. The foundation is also working with friend of the show congressman brian master to create an austin alert similar to an amber alert. But it would be for the water. That's a good idea. Really an idea extra And there was a whole thing about water safety and how boats should have beacons on them in because they found the boat. It was months later. I remember weeks later somewhere near bermuda. Was they found the boat and they found certain other things but they never found the kid now. That was so sad. It's still sad. It's it's always going to be sad. I remember seeing all that. And i mean god bless those parents in the love their fan..

That's only only dog years But she she's matured. She's really come to realize that where you say. Certain things really matters. I think that's because in public for so long. Yeah but more that more than ever the were learning that now words matter they they really do. It's easy to be nice such easier to be nice. It's it feels nice. It does horrible to me on twitter. I just nap before years ago. I would read it in. Thank allah watts. Even though you understand that people there are many people. Were not gonna like you no matter what you do and now i just scroll right past really and it's it's a very empowering feeling to just know that it really doesn't matter they don't know how i am is a mother to our beautiful children. How am too you know. It's incredible what people put out there. That's same with when we look for restaurant reviews or something. I'm like the only people putting anything after restaurant where the people who are going to be negative so there's no use in reading this. I just want to go and try it. you know. they've got four stars or two stars. Rest because i think the people who want to be negative are the ones that will post if i have a great dinner. I'm going to go to yelp and go at a great dinner right. You just want to be like you said you just want to be positive in this world that you have to be in these days. Just it's harder and harder to instill that into But we try every day. That's one of the reasons i do this. Because i'm trying to give voice to other we're gonna have other groups on here. Small community theaters are trying to work their way through the pandemic and trying to get back some other small nonprofits like ours so we can give voice out there as well. So we're just trying to keep a positive. Keep everything going The doctors and scientists are gonna come on and talk about all the great things that they're doing. That's kind of why i started this. During the pandemic to give some sort of positivity to my group saying see there's other people out here going through the same thing they want. Help you that sort of thing so so. That's why i kind of started this as a way to to try to give back in a way we couldn't since we're not on stage and can't do what we do so it goes back to what we're talking about before you don't get through difficult times with a positive attitude right. I mean i think if you broadcast that out and try to live. I mean nobody's perfect and you're gonna get annoyed with things but you try to live your life with a with a positive outlook in. Just choose to respond kindly Every impulse is like you know. Hey you If you just do the exact opposite and vanish chemistry. I love you yet. It's so selfish yes selfish. It makes you feel good. Yes and a micro is other people feel good so my daughter's a barista and she. She came home yesterday and it was a tough day because like you. They're air conditioner died. So she's making hot coffees and they. They kept walking into the freezer to cool off. She said you know a guy came in today and he was very upset and angry and complained about prices and she goes. I was just nice back to him. Because he he's provoking me to want me to be mean to him so he could keep going but the more she was nice to him the more he just kinda like okay. Okay walked away and it's kind of in be nice to people. Maybe it pushes the meanness out of them or whatever they going through that day. If you can be nice to those people all right well guys. That truly inspired me. And i thought all okay and to see her through the years know how what kind of an impact. She had me and to see how she handled that cancer diagnosis and how she continues to handle every single thing. That comes her way. It's really as simple as just saying i can do this. I can do this. I will do this. Remember remember during that whole thing. And since i've often thought i hope if i haven't heard since i hope my inheritance is that character and that.

There's GonNa be a game later on that we will play. We'RE NOT GONNA burn you at that this time. It's kind of like in the bane of a newlywed game. I was big on a game shows growing up. I was watching the game show network all the time and so we have ten categories. That were each gonna guess what the other person's answer is. If that's interesting to you at all a little self-indulgent hopefully it'll be fun this is although the prepping for this stuff goes. I put stuff on the agenda. And then he she goes. Is Anybody going to give a shit about that like literally every single thing that we add first off? Y'All watched Naomi today with Stephanos. Kill Bill as an old movie I discovered today. I was in college when Kill Bill came out so it made me feel really upset. I loved Steph was actually taking notes writing down the name of kill bill so he could ruin to watch it. I'm shocked that he hadn't seen it. Feel free to use the chat a lot while you're in the in the meeting for now. If you want. You can mute yourself on and talk with us. We'll let you know when we're getting into like the more serious often than will mute the room. Yeah and not to be or anything. Is Serena so on life. She was doing like her home shopping. Network thing starting at five I think Venus I mean Venus. Has that stuff on lock? Like her lives are so professional. She's got an assistant vineyard questions. It's amazing she so like this is obviously her future career if she wants it. If you watched a lot of you said you didn't watch it but if you watched the naming with Stephanos today I don't see how you come away from watching that with a better impression of him thank. He came off a such a Dick at every turn. I personally am not gonna go that far. I felt like he was. It was awkward. I'm I going to say he was a Dick A D. But we have. We have what I feel like. I feel like the sensor my language yet. He's just a little weird right. He Naomi Post them very straightforward questions. And he can failed to answer them in any kind of normal way. That was my take away from it. They've had this song and dance going on for about a year. No where initially folks were like. What's going on? Are they seeing each other? And it just became very clear to me from the start that it's this high school thing where the boy is so afraid and while I don't take words of Miami's Mo- but afraid of different way. Intimidated doesn't hold actor rounder. And at the end of it she's like you know. I know you thought that I was afraid but I hope this shows that it. I wasn't like dude. Nobody's nobody's coming for you for being afraid of new meals you or just chill. Naomi did well though I as someone who is not naturally predisposed to like being on video like I'm talking about myself now. I think Naomi trying to get better and getting more Like forcing herself to be extroverted is really cool and really scary for somebody WHO's. Who's not naturally like that? You're probably never make the switch like your personality is not. GonNa Change but it's really like to jump out of her comfort zone like that and actually be pretty good at it at school is Joyce. She's also the highest paid woman in sports right now. Yes she is that girls right now. It didn't take Philip and John Lung to start with the mess they ask. Did she ask about Ilan? She sure did but it wasn't. It wasn't even a question it was like you might get mad at me for asking this question but you like Elon. Musk period and that was like that was the question and he talked about. I don't know how he's a genius. This is the first guy like outside of NASA to invent rockets. And I don I have no idea what he's talking about but you can go watch it back if you're interested it. S something that I've seen so many different takes on when Venus had Naomi unhurt instagram for the workout. He says I'm happily surprised at the boundary between Venus and was a lot of folks. Were like that was painful to watch. But like if you know me you know that this is a huge improvement. I think speaks to more Venus being unprepared for that situation. Okay as I was when I interviewed new one on one like a few years ago. It's it's actually a a harrowing experience if you're not prepared because everything that you think about what an interview will be and how you prepare yourself is completely out the door there. There are no rules. Yeah well she's really funny but in a unconventional way like a very awkward way.

I don't care what happens in the SEC championship game I don't care what happens it doesn't matter they will be in the college football playoff it doesn't matter they will be there they're going to be an and George will be in as an SEC champion and I'm gonna go as far as to tell you that they'd make Georgia LSU they would make sure that they don't play each other the college football committee make sure they don't play each other but for Alabama they need Georgia lose one more and they need just to remove them from the conversation they need organ to lose a game but they will never one loss Oregon one loss Alabama Oregon will jump them but they really need Baylor in Minnesota to both lose again because it Baylor was unbeaten or Minnesota's unbeaten Alabama fans you can tell me all you want they will not be denied the college football playoff if you have an unbeaten conference champion in the big twelve they're going to the playoffs if you have an unbeaten big ten champion whether it's a higher state whether it's Minnesota they're going to let me know Matt Ohio state's going to go but it's Minnesota somehow managed to be unbeaten get to the A. get to the they'll be in the college football playoff so Alabama needs help but there's one team they could screw up all their dreams and that's Georgia if George was to somehow when the SEC championship I'm not saying that's highly likely probable yeah could happen highly likely no but it could happen and then they say even in the big bed which of Alabama would be dead it would be all over for them and who knows what they're gonna be able to come back it might be the most pivotal weekend I told in the NFC playoff picture the Seahawks the forty Niners Seahawks lose this game they fall back into the market they will not win their division all money I football they will not win their division and they're right there in the mark of maybe being able to even miss the playoffs in the last seven weeks Carolina Panthers today taken on Green Bay Carolina loses today again another loss that falls them back into the what we make the playoffs or not because they're not going to win the division against the saints most likely pivotal huge there's some really really big games that are going to decide how this entire playoff picture shakes out and the Dallas Cowboys the Minnesota Vikings I will tell you this right now at the Dallas Cowboys were somehow to lose to the Vikings and I don't I don't believe it's going to happen because I believe the Vikings will Viking but if if Dallas somehow lost to the Minnesota Vikings today I will guarantee you guarantee it they missed the playoffs guarantee it it is a hundred percent not ninety nine percent one hundred percent if Dallas falls to five and four they will miss the plus that's what's going to happen and we wish you the best from Matthew Stafford to with his with his broken bones in his back and hopefully he is going to be okay all right let's get my closing argument please it's.

He takes another drag on a smoke and seen. You might not think that that is the most lucid eating interview you've ever heard. But I can tell you there's something weirdly profound about the entire scene. Maybe it's that he's not the kind of guy you normally see in the movies, or maybe it's because everything he says, and does is so mundane, but also seem so deliberate. Maybe it's just the way about him that says so much or maybe it's what he says or chooses. "Lamerica is an essay about a particular kind of American made by another particular kind of American an immigrant who came here with nothing more than a couple of suitcases, and some very romantic ideas about this country. He mostly got from the movies wide open. Vistas small towns the sound of trains in the distance and men who speak with actions. Instead of words, it's an anything can happen kind of place where you can get lost to find yourself. Travis. What happened? Why did we get off the highway highway, Texas, I would say my number one number two favorite fins? Here. We are in the middle of the Mohave desert and the place that doesn't have a name. Paris Texas travels from the dusty desert border towns of the south west to the bright lights of Los Angeles. It's a story of being lost and found of regret and redemption. In other words, it's very American. Although the director is not American, but he's a very American kind of road trip movie. Lamerica is kind of a road movie to only the stars aren't the people on the road. They're the people the filmmaker met along the road it began when Steffano put his nineteen sixties camera in the trunk of his nineteen eighty s Mercedes turbo diesel his brother Vittorio in the passenger seat and headed out of LA. We're going to east we're not gonna take the highway. Never we only gonna take the blue road, you know, on the map those those leader road, and we're going to be driving about three to four hundred miles a day. No more than that. And so it's it's a sticky hot mess. Honestly. We know we're getting a lot of comments coming in online about this. And there's a there's a pattern with with some of them here. Let me just read one to you. This is from Stephanos carava. He says this is a classic example of the religion of the religious wanting to have its cake and eat it too. If miracle hill continues to be a beneficiary of state funds derived from taxation of the entire public. It should be required to cater to the entire public. Who who says that they're going to they're going to close their doors to to certain people is is that going too, far the other extreme I don't know that it goes too far. But I think that's a gut intuition lots of people have. But here's the challenge for Steph enough's, and this is less about South Carolina than it is about other places in South Carolina. I talked to the department of social services last week. There were lots and lots of providers in this catchment area. Meaning, you know, you sort of think about like the service area of a hospital. Same thing with a foster care agency a catchment area. And so there's a sense in which if there are other people why change this group in terms of how it's doing that. And I think there are two answers to or two two considerations for whether we want to say this is too much religion. We're not willing to do. This one is how much of the social services load or they carry because at the end of the day. This entire project is about getting children into foster care when they have ruptures in their family of origin. And then. "Is the president unplugged that was moments ago at the White House where he's talking to reporters before his trip down to down to the border. And I he's just flat out saying it, by the way, our efforts to reach Senator Stephanos office. Chris one of the things that I was thinking was that. Maybe maybe the staffers are not in because of the government shutdown, and that's why people are getting recording. When they tried to call. Yeah. That's a good point. And just on her website looking because she's the Senator of the whole state of Michigan hurt her voted ES for the secure fence act of two thousand six. Yes. So she's got seven offices six of which are in Michigan. And and the seventh in DC. So you would niece at least need seven people. They are answering the phones right one in each office, hypothetical K, so. Will you trying to call? We were trying to call DC. Okay. So it's it's possible. And having you did, you know spell DC's a little difficult. It is hard. Yes. It's easier than Washington. So we'll start there. But yes. So so it, so maybe you're right. That's a that's a good point. I hadn't thought about the how about the president. I mean, he just landed out there. And he says, look, I'm I'm going to stick with this. And I believe that the real victims. He says oh talking about criminal victims. The real victims are the people like officers sing out in California who got shot and killed by that illegal immigrant not too long ago.
