Fresh update on "stephanie" discussed on My Drafts folder

"It's much older than she. Even is when i hear her voice. If you close your eyes. When she's speaking i think eighty five to ninety five. I agree. I sounds very very old. My may i send here. Is i hate everything. Yes i do not like either of them no he. Also i feel bad for him. Because i feel like he has not done a ton of research on michigan because he says that he wants to explore michigan with her. Now no offense to michigan but he lives in belize understand about people from tropical places. While i understand it. There's poverty so that that. I understand but exploring michigan is going to be more underwhelming than you know is probably equal amounts of poverty. Yeah it's i mean. It's not the great bolt. She also lives a lavish lifestyle. So it's going. It's not going to be his experience in michigan. So his mom she's like is your mom. Happy that we're together and we're in love. And she goes. He goes yes. She's so happy that it's going to be a good experience for me and that you're going to help me get a job. She's like yeah but she happy that we're in love and he's like yeah. That's what i just said that you're going to get a job and that you have a lot of money whether have a job. Not you're gonna pay me so have so we find out that his his mom has blocked her. I mean that's you have to be really bad if you are funneling money to somebody and annoy them so bad they block you. That's what i'm saying like cheese. Like i don't even want your money. That's how annoying. You are so what happened. Was we find out and we knew that stephanie was insane but this is really the confirmation so she got in a fight with him and she basically threatened him that she would ask for the money back for but but not all the money just months money because his mom didn't thank her.

"Casinos like he was like. Oh do you know how to girl. We gotta get yoon in different locations for the next. I hear you just fine. I think there's just a delay you're freezing. You keep freezing rain. Oh my fucking guess. Sorry so so He's all calls The harry's stop mom and they found out that he's feeling better and he's okay so course. She's super relieved and Tariq is interacting with harry Over this facetime call and it's super cute is like really good with kids. And i think that's so endearing adorable and then tariq's daughter arias there and so she serves interacting with harry through facetime. And it's just really cute and adorable But i've thought it was interesting because we find out the reason that hazel doesn't have her sign is because is living in the philippines. She didn't have money to take care of. So that's why. He was living with brian and before. We didn't really know what had happened. There so I did find that interesting and also sad that he's currently living in a situation of like it seems blake extreme poverty still because tariq was like tons again orange juice. You know like 'cause it helps you know the vitamin c. Helps for his immune system or whatever and He's like they don't have money to get orange juice And that just blows my mind like just you know we're so privileged like i don't think i don't think about like not being able to afford some orange juice so or not even like get any right right so Just yeah. I just thought that was interesting to learn some more of their their story and they do have plans for to come to america. Hugh supposed to be there within the year but is kind of messing up all their plan. So all right. I'm a couple. Same or sure bryan stephanie. I'll love it. It's much trashed there. Yeah so they're lake. Hula hooping on the beach might twenty five year old beyond say ryan They ashley they're like having fun together in the scene or one all the time. Yeah another ryan expresses but in michigan an like coming to america. They have good concert or something. What does he say about the concert. i think he's like super excited about his woman. Being the champion of hula hooping. Like he's like the guinness book of world records. You just see that somebody is in there and it will be her. She's really good now. That was really funny so We find out that ryan's mom has blocked his block. Stephanie and duda so funny so his mom finds offensive. That stephanie asked or money that she had given the family back and she did that because and got into a fight and then she was like well. Your mom never said. Thank you for the money like. She's not appreciative of the money. So that's why i asked for at and stephanie is just so trash league. It's so gross to hold that money over a family. That desperately needs that money. Figure out and it's it's real. It's a real discussing power move and In this scene like ryan is glaring at her. And it's like you can see like the heat that he has for her. And i really feel like he's continuing this relationship to get to america and he's absolutely his mind like meal ticket owl late but you can. Just how like. He's discuss it by like what she's saying in the scene and i don't blame him at all because you speechless that the mom says yeah. I got the money thank you. She's like well she doesn't. She's unappreciative appreciative. So i asked for the money back. And he's like if my mom says thank you. It's from the heart is like if she says thank you very much. It's from the heart. She's like well wasn't thank you very much. It was just thank you and it's like girl each. Thank you truly a despicable human being like. Here's the if you're giving money to the family he like you need to have no expectation lake. That is on you that you gave money to them. It didn't found out you were begging you for money. It sounds like you gave money to them. So just leave it at that. I don't know and then she said. Well i haven't set money sense and it's like okay. Great so be proud of yourself that you have sent any money but like like you said. It didn't really sound like they were asking for it. Anyway she's gross so excited. How many thousands of dollars have i sent my give. Yes and he's just like a hold that over them and he's like i don't know i have. I can't even count right now. And she's like well. It's a lot at fall law riot. She's just so altitude. What happens though with the in the next episode so they need allowed to dinner and there are so many things so late i. She's wearing her hair in like the massias pigtails. It looks like a three year old that her hair and they put she put like those non tangle lake. According to those thing i do too. And they look like trash they say and he hasn't like just hanging from the side and you can tell she's like fucked up like she's what type of pain curtain. Ads like samson shit. Zanu down or saab. Yeah so she just looks totally wild and so they're sitting outside for dinner and as these are having. This conversation is just like so perfect. A storm starts rolling in and you can learn like lightning in the background. And i'm like i'm like it's like foreshadowing. Lake the mass. As about a half an i love. It's like real life foreshadowing So anyways staff so suffering off like maria the psychic and hello maria. Thinks that ryan's gonna leave Saffy furry younger woman and so. She's like questioning ryan about this. And it's so weird because like what the fuck you expect ryan to do like your psychic is wrong. I don't know what a weird argument.

"Inspire and form and connect the community of entrepreneurs. Joining us right now is Stephanie Boxer bomb. She's the founder of all have the fries and also an attorney. We got first that which company does I'll have the fries? Sure. So I'll have the fries is a lifestyle brand really designed to educate and inspire people on how to have a healthy relationship with food. Right, and you were telling me that you guys do events and things like that touch with those? Yes, our focus is really online content and then also events and workshops where we'll go into schools or yoga studios or depending on kind of a variety of places to really kind of spread the message and our focus is really more experiential. So sometimes it's not just about Let's sit here and talk about how to have a healthy relationship with food We've done chocolate tastes sees, you know, thanks to kind of get the crowd sort of excited about what we're gonna be talking about. I love that. How? How long have you been in this space like? Is this something new? Something new, for? Sure. Yeah, It's definitely something new, but I think that you know, I'm really passionate about building and growing it. So it's a lot of networking. A lot of outreach, and it's interesting to kind of see how many people really want this type of messaging. You know, two out of 10 high school girls have an eating disorder, So there's a lot of interest from the education side. Um, so it's been interesting so far, well, the fastest growing industry In the world is the coaching space people in some way, shape or form offering speaking retreats, masterminds online programs. Books, books, reports online video training's Webinars Video series one on one coaching group coaching. There's something Everything's. It's the fastest growing industry in the world right now, and I'm curious from your perspective since you're new in it, And this is what my background is. What's been your hardest part of getting into this? What is that? Your first year? Yeah. Okay, so your first year Another ride that you're on your first year of being a content creator getting your message out there and spying people that kind of step into what you guys were kind of what your message is. Sure it was the hardest part about that. I mean, I think you know is a band with right. There are only more hours in a day and you're still an attorney. Yeah, I'm just trying to family right, getting all of it done, but it's been really great. So far. I mean, people are so open toe learning about this topic because I think we're Yeah, everybody, it's It's true and everyone's I have sick of this idea that like is this diet that diet? Most people are just like, I just want to be happy in my life. I want to try to get these issues resolved. I have a surprise. Yeah, have the fries. You know, I have a lead nutritionist from Stephanie Boots. She does a lot of online courses and you know, it's um we kind of divide up and we what we do. So my role is really motivator, Top giver, you know, going through the process myself. I totally understand it. You know, obviously she's been a dietitian for years has had her own private practice. And so typically, what we'll do is, you know clients that maybe aren't comfortable coming to a workshop. They just want the private coaching, and I kind of stepped in on sort of that next piece of life, because sometimes ah lot of these issues. People are so focused on that and then all the sudden when their time is more free, and they're not as obsessed with their diet and their food. And when they work out in their body image, and all these things are like, well, wait a minute. I've kind of been missing out on my career that I'd loved. Have a relationship. I really want to be in like what I do about that stuff. And so I kind of help on those types of things too Well, I love that because I find so many people who get into business as entrepreneurs usually created their business or their product based on need and a problem in their own life. Their wanted to solve it sounds like That's very similar to what yours is, which is better because then people feel like they understand what you're going through. Right? And I teach something called the three deaths, and it's feel felt found something. You're doing a perfect job of that. You could say I understand how you feel, because I, too have felt the pain, the fear and the uncertainty you're going through. And it wasn't until I found this solution. I like to share with you for free. It sounds like you're you're doing a good job of that. You've kind of gone through the story. Founder of All Have the fries. Stephanie Boxer Bomb is in the house right now. Business rock stars. I'm Mark lack. We're here to inspire and form and connect the community of entrepreneurs. Content contact. You're getting into the space now. Yeah. Is it? Is it weird? Is it uncomfortable for you? Or you just natural. You just flip on the camera. You start going. Yeah, I'm writing the content for the blog's or whatever this Yeah. I mean, I think you just from my background and companies have worked out and it's really being in this content space. It's an exciting time. I think that digital media allows for such a wide spread reach of a message and so are serious, which is kind of our flagship serious. I'll have the fries where we kind of document the journey of people kind of going through this process, Seeing Stephanie myself, we integrate yoga and kind of missed a real sort of touching kind of a way where people can tell their stories on. But we're always looking for people to to join the Web series so they can go to my website and try to apply. It's been great. I mean, I think it's just an exciting time for content creators because you have an ability to get the message out. What's the best platform that you're using? Is it YouTube? Facebook? LinkedIn, instagram Pinterest? What is like the platform that you're leveraging? I mean, I love YouTube. Obviously, I think, Instagrams great. And those air really in Facebook. I mean, really, Those are the three that I think just, you know, Macha. Not really different demographics. Yeah, don't you know your mom's not necessarily Mom's I think. I mean it was your net. Choose your targets. Yeah. You know, I like to say people because I think men also have these marketing. Yeah, I know, but I think it's really women. I mean, you know the obvious reasons years would be women. Yeah. Working professional women that like kind of encompasses sort of the mom group on guy. That kind of That's demo. Really, for us is what we're seeing A lot of women just they've reached a place where they want to work on these issues. The high school demo one that I wasn't really planning on. But it seems there's a lot of speaking engagements and a lot of interest around. That s O. I'm just right now like this. That's the first year so people want me to come speak. I'm gonna go do it and just kind of keep Curating the audience the best we can. So for the people out there who know they need to start capitalizing on short form videos. No, they didn't start writing blog's know They need to start being a content created. No, they need to start being information marketers providing free value out there. So people go. I'm looking for all I care of its plumbing, and they find three information. You know, before you hire plumber with seven things you need to know, provided by No..

Austin enters boil-water notice because of winter storm

"City of Austin is under a boiled water notice. I mean the ongoing fall out of a brutal winter storm and hitting Texas, the city explained. It's because of a power loss at its largest water treatment plant. As well as a drop in water pressure. Texas has been hard hit by a winter storm that left much of the state buried under snow. The stormiest let millions of people without power while temperatures dipped below freezing.

The author who lived in the hawaiian islands in the pacific for so long We're and they're iraq's be like boulders with with brass plaques engraved with quotations of their comments about what it was like standing there which were lifted from literature that they wrote also there's one mark twain And imagine in the eighteen hundreds which is when they would have been going Imagine a mark twain from his book I think it was from his book. Innocence abroad His commentary about standing spot and looking out at the crater. And you're looking at the same thing i mean. That's the ultimate in sustainability that you're looking at a scene that looks identical to a hundred two hundred three hundred or more years ago and so we have some obligation There is a whole sector of the travel industry. Devoted to sustainability and an organization called tourism. Cares that not only dives in By spearheading fundraising. When there's a su- nami or a hurricane or earthquake in some touristic destination and just about every destination has something of touristic value so the always raising money to help at end. Send people You know people like general managers of oh tells and people that work in the travel industry will take time off from their work and fly to a destination to pitch in you know after. Some colossal messes happened that destination to help bring things back to normal. But we've got another situation here And is that all of us have an opportunity to be able to participate in sustaining the earth. So we don't become one big garbage dump We've got about a half a minute. The you have some closing message. You'd like to share with our listeners. Yeah would so Packaging is not going away. It's going to double in the next twenty years and by far the best pro the best thing to do is to reduce. I mean that is number one. You want to reduce and you wanna repurpose. If you actually do need a package you wanna look for something. That's bio base made from Renewable energy sources. You want to look for something that has recycled content. Where you want to look for something that may be imposed at the end of life or recycle more of life so just want to choose the best packaging but that really applies to everything closed. You know everything under the umbrella row b. and when you're going bring along a shopping bag folded up in your role award so let you always have your own packaging to carry away your purchases and that you can reuse. Thank you so much for joining us today. All of you come back next week stephanie. Abrams were flying..

"As luck would have. It went to school with his fellow years ago. And they've managed to keep in touch and whatnot. And if you write a book you're to want to dig out. Everyone of your old friends and get them on the social networking bandwagon to get out the story. Well lucky for him. David is be isn't radio and luckier for him. Since much of what he talks about and was in pursuit of in the business world require travel on his part not only in the us but overseas as well and David and i will go into our twentieth year working together. In june we started working together in june. Two thousand two and we started the first show aired the first sunday in july two thousand and two so we will celebrate our nineteen th birthday and start our twenty th year on the air the first sunday in july this year and we've managed let each other live that's even more remarkable but David is a joy to work with And incredibly skilled and talented. And i you know the biggest problem. I have is blocking out time in his nazi schedule to get him into chats with me on the air because he's busy in production all the so. We're gonna try this year to get him back on the air with me more. Because i think you've almost forgotten the sound of his voice. That's not a good thing but in any event a he is always up to some kind of good mischief and the newest good mischief was introducing me to trent romer and his new book. That's going to come out in june twenty twenty one and so you want to be on the lookout for it and i want to be talking about it because we don't have to wait until the book comes out to talk about it and you can put it on your moscow and get this list. So we're gonna do that. And we're gonna start talking with trent romer right after this portions of today's show brought to you by cure south offering vacationers cultural experiences wrapped in history and sherman traditional european architecture. A unesco world heritage city on a southern caribbean island with kobe speeches and over sixty dive and snorkelling sites carousel. Feel it for yourself. Visit cure sow dot com on the line with me. Is trent romer. I love his movie star name and he has written a book that is at the intersection of his business interests. And his need to travel as part of those business interests and what he has learned in the process And enjoying the process as well so welcome aboard trent. What is the name of your new book. Thank you stephanie. Appreciate it I appreciate you having me on. It means a lot in. The name of the book is called finding sustainability It's really a journey about The our business in trying to become more sustainable in the process I can give you a little background on our business. If if it's okay to go into that he needs to explain it. Yeah yeah so. We are a Sixty year old custom. Plastic bag manufacturing firm. My grandfather started the business back in one thousand nine hundred sixty one. My father owned it for about twenty thirty years and now my brother and i own the business. My father's one of eleven. And i have thirty two first cousins so we have a very large family And they were tremendous source of dedication and loyalty and and labor as business and increasingly as we progress In two three years ago The anti plastic narrative really began to take hold Not only in society but also sort of within the i kind of i didn't feel great about the end of life problem with plastics that we are seeing in our environment so I decided to embark on a journey to begin to learn About what we could do To solve that problem or at least to address it. And i kind of found myself at a crossroads Back in two thousand eighteen. You know to one side. Was this survival path where you could continue to make the same bags that you're making and use the same materials. The other side or the other path was more of a preservation path. Of what can i do now. to To to make a better future to leave future generations in a good place. And i felt like i couldn't take both pass You had to choose or the other. And when i chose to do was to take this journey Toward sustainability to try and learn more about it. We're maybe i could do some of both And apply it to our own industry so that journey really started two years ago. It took me to to multiple places light and really. The book is about the journey multiple places like where so The the first place i visited was A plastic free supermarket in amsterdam in the netherlands. the the Supermarket was full of compostable bags. and No bags at all or paper bags or variations of plastic So that was an amazing trip and right after that. We went down to brussels In belgium i i went to a european strategy conference on this very topic and In both places we enjoyed a couple of days leisure. We took a bite tours. In both places so that my my wife and i are are big biker so that was so enjoyable when you say bike tours where they the kind that after you pedal it kind of becomes motorized this was all in human pow power. Yes so so amsterdam as you probably know. There's there's actually more bicycles than inhabitants or city inhabitants in amsterdam. It's just unbelievable around. You know they did that. I don't. I don't know how somebody didn't explain that peace to you know There are a good jillian bicycles in bicycle racks all over amsterdam and if you wanna get from one place to another and you don't wanna walk or take a taxi or some public form of transportation. You just take a bike any bike. Just take the bike and drive it where you want to go and park it in the bicycle. Stand that's got an empty slot wherever you land up and when you maybe went to a museum a cafe or you know your hotel or whatever and then when you're done doing whatever you're doing and you're ready to go to your next place you come out. Take any bike. Want and go and they did it because bike. Bicycle thefts and amsterdam was enormous and in order to get rid of people stealing bicycles. The municipality came up with the system. Let us populate the city with bicycles and bike racks and just go take a bike and get where you need to go and leave it. Wherever but as a result as a result there are people that are from parts of eastern europe who have found themselves in amsterdam and wanna go home and have taken a bike that turns up five eight hundred thousand miles away often with flat tires that somebody just lifted.

We had to get hacked and brought to our knees in august last year. But you know we've been working diligently to recreate everything that was important and we're still working on it but there's a lot of really good stuff there so it's not a waste of your time to drop in s. a. b. r. a. dot net. You know i'm constantly being introduced to refer to and stumbling upon people myself that i think would be of interest to you and one since such incident happened last week. And we rearranged a bunch of stuff so that we could squeeze in an interview with someone who has a really interesting perspective on travel partly coming out of his own interests and traveling but also propelled and motiva- motivated by what he does in the business world. And you know we talk about a term invented that. I referred to as intentional travel. And that's when you know you're on a mission whether the mission is some personal interest or some public service or philanthropy or something to do with business or family whatever it is. You're whatever you're doing has a duality of purpose. It's not just. I need a break. Where's a nice place to go and veg out. And so i learned about a fine fellow who has been learning a great deal from his travels in his business mission to the point that he's also written a book related to his business mission that have the imprint of his travels upon it and the best part is i got introduced to this fine fellow by our senior producer. Bloomberg urges Biden to stand up to unions and tell teachers to return to school because virtual classes are 'worse than a joke'

"Us is Chris Louis involved who is the assistant director of communications. Hope I have that right, Chris? For the Pennsylvania Teachers Association. Is that Is that correct? Chris? You got it, right? Yes. Thank thank you for having me done. Well, you are welcome. I'm very glad you came on. Wanted to play you What Michael Bloomberg said yesterday that we've talked about on the show. It's about a minute. And get your reaction to what he's asked about going back to school, Having teachers back in school. Here's what Michael Bloomberg said. President Biden wants to open schools and he's already getting pushback. What's your take on that? Well, I'm I think that What we're doing to poor kids is a disgrace. These poor kids are not in school. They will never recover from this And they had a bad education experience. Anyways, we have not had good schools for poor kids, and this now is just so much worth. The president has to stand up to the unions and teachers, unions. Teachers, yes, teachers unions, You know, the teachers say, Well, I don't want to go back because it's dangerous. They have a lot of city and state in federal employees who run risks. That's part of the job. You run risks to help America to help your state to help your city to help your family. And there's just no reason not to have the school's open. The virtual classes are a joke. It is worse than a joke. Poor people don't have ipads. They don't have WiFi. They don't have somebody at home to sit during the day and force the child to pay attention. And without that the virtual learning just does not exist. And the teachers unions you see in Chicago on in New York. We've had problems. It's time for Joe Biden to stand up and say. The kids are the most important things and important players here, and the teacher's just gonna have to suck it up and stand up. And provide an education. Otherwise, these kids have no chance whatsoever. Stephanie. It is a disaster. What's happening to them? Well, Chris, you've been very patient during that. If I were in your position, I might be erupting. But give us your take from what Michael? Bloomberg said here. Well, you know, I think our members in PFC a would certainly agree that virtual instruction is not ideal. They very much want to be in the classroom with their students. They want to Have that direct connection in that direct opportunity to teach. The challenge, of course, is how this pandemic works, how this virus works. And so when you look at recommendations from the CDC, and you look at recommendations from other sources, social distancing and mask wearing are really important, well, that's very difficult. In many school district's that are large and have very large high schools and middle schools in particular, because you have kids crowding in the classrooms. You have kids crowding in the hallways. And there are serious risks there. One thing about Pennsylvania I think is important to keep in mind is that the majority of our school district's do have some in person instruction right now, either full in person instructions. What's the figure? What would you What would you tell for listeners? Because you're the authority on this better than the media? I think. What percentage of all the public schools across ballpark figure within a few. Chris would you say are back either hybrid or five day a week option? In person. Well, well over 400. We have 500 school district's so well over 400, so the majority of the vast majority of them now many of them are still in hybrid, at least for middle and high school. Just as an example I live in the Cumberland Valley School district in central P a. And our district has elementary students in five days a week, but the middle school in the high score on a hybrid program where half of the week there in person half of the week there on virtual Just because of the number of students and not being able to achieve that social, physical distancing,

What the pandemic has revealed about the real value of college

"We've got a moment. We're in crisis. Can we do better. Ron lieber is asking that very question in his new book. The price you pay for college is the author of the new york times personal finance column your money ron for years and years and years. We weren't thinking about the price of college the value of college. Is it worth it. Well i think you have to start by asking yourself what college is right. what is college for. I wasn't sure what the answer to. That question was so i asked you know scores of families and i heard the same things over and over again colleges for getting an education for having your mind grown in your mind blown. It is for kinship. It is for finding the people who will carry you through life. It is for getting a credential whether it's the gold plated one that will open doors or just the degree that will allow you to grasp hold of the middle class and hopefully stay there and so in order to answer. The question of whether college is worth it. You need to find it for your individual family that we as a nation can dictate for any given individual but then how did we get to this place right. My dad worked in the summer and put himself through school and had a tiny bit of debt. After how did college get this expensive. There are so many more things pulling on our household incomes than there used to be. We are entirely responsible in most instances for our own retirement. We're paying more and more out of our own pockets for healthcare. Many people are paying off their own student. Loan debt well into their forties or fifties right so people don't have the same kind of disposable income as they might have earlier states have reduced their subsidies towards higher education which means the price of the state schools has gone up and the private institutions. They've gotten more and more expensive so the middle class. There is being squeezed. This whole idea of i want to go to a liberal arts college and better myself and in the world is will be. My voice. teacher is kind of an antiquated thought. Sure i'd like to enrich myself but not if it's going to put me in hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of debt. I remember when i was a senior in college. I went to lehigh and lee. Could absolutely help you on the career services front. If you wanted to go work in an accounting firm or be an engineer i wanted to work in investment banking so i drove to new york city with my mother and i stuck into the career services office at columbia university and i borrowed these giant binders. That had every piece of information that you needed for every bank every financial institution so you could apply for the summer internships. Now i went to the photocopy machine to start and you needed to have a school. I d to use the photocopier. I got caught. And i got kicked out the reason i bring this up. We send these kids to college but the best jobs are directly linked to only a few schools. So do we need to start looking at. Here's a college. What is the job. My child is going to get on the other side because otherwise they will be sitting here in hundreds of thousands of dollars with a debt. Yes to all of that first of all. That is the most bad ass career services story that i have ever heard your description of this as quote unquote best jobs right. I mean it is true that the best jobs in investment banking very narrow feel from certain institutions. Right unless you beat down the door but are those. The best jobs in america are the best jobs for anyone. Goldman sachs's is hiring. All these people in salt lake city now do not come from columbia and harvard and stanford mit. So then we have to ask ourselves well. These are iconic jobs in in certain social classes but are they really the best jobs out there for any given twenty two year old. I don't think so. Before the pandemic we knew there was a skills gap in the united states. We were at full employment yet. We had millions of americans who are not making enough money to support themselves. We had people who had jobs but good enough jobs. But you hear people making that argument saying you cannot afford to support yourself and your family working in a fast food restaurant but that job was never intended for someone who has a family to support. Is there an opportunity to actually create a real jobs program. A skills retraining program so it's not just about raising minimum wage. It's about retraining. People to qualify themselves for better higher paying jobs yes and that infrastructure already exists we can use the community college infrastructure to provide that skills training but we also have a shortage of qualified instructors to teach some of these skills. Why because the skills are so in demand that the people who would be doing the instructing are making five times as much money being actual practitioners. If you're a master plumber. You're not going to spend twenty hours a week teaching at a community college even though it would be a service to the community if you are a welder with twenty five years of experience right same thing is true. So how are we going to create the budget that allows for more people to be pushed through rigorous training programs. And so we need to do more I think from a state perspective and from a federal perspective not just provides the money but also to ensure equity and access to these programs

"Well hello and welcome to the i former x podcast where we explore the evidence that informs aleatory care pharmacy practice. This is stuart hanes the host of the i former x podcast in about a year ago we reviewed and discussed the data h f study which evaluated the benefits of the sodium glucose transporter two or s. l. t. two inhibitor. Adaptable flows in in patients with reduced ejection fraction. Heart failure even in patients without diabetes. And if you are not familiar with a data h f study. I strongly encourage you to read the original study. And the i former x commentary of course. The data regarding the use of the sglt two inhibitors to prevent cardiovascular events and to treat heart failure or quite compelling but can they also slow the progression of renal complications in patients with chronic kidney disease. Well i was excited to see the much anticipated data. Ck d. study published in the new england journal of medicine a few weeks ago. And i knew just the right people. I wanted to review this study for i former expert. Dr jennifer clements dr stephanie. Nitro jennifer and stephanie are no strangers to i former x. They are members of the i former x oriel board and have been frequent contributors over the years. That clements is clinical pharmacy. Specialist in diabetes transitions at spartanburg regional health. Care system in spartanburg south carolina indoctrinate grow is associate professor of pharmacy practice at the university of connecticut. Stephanie jennifer it's great to welcome you back on the i former x podcast. Thanks for the invitation stewart. Thank you for having us back so before we get started per usual. I'd like to get your thoughts on a patient case. A i think that is not unlike. What many of our listeners encounter in their practices and want to imagine. You're seeing k t a sixty one year old african american female in the primary care clinic today. The patient has a longstanding history of hypertension type two diabetes dyslipidemia and. She's morbidly obese. She also has osteoarthritis internees. She recently was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease in her primary care physician referred her to you to make certain quote. We are doing everything we can to protect your kidneys. According to her medical record katie has been prescribed lysenko pearl twenty milligrams twice daily resume astatine twenty milligrams daily metformin thousand twice daily and insulin Twenty it's bedtime and in addition over the counter. She takes aspirin eighty-one milligrams and naproxen sodium for arthritis pain. She currently weighs two hundred sixty four pounds of bmi forty point. Nine blood pressure today when thirty. Eight over seventy six and her most recent labs yesterday include a fasting glucose of eighty seven and a one c of six point seven percent. Sam crat nin of one point seven milligrams per deciliter and an estimated. Gfr of thirty seven seven potassium of four point seven. Ldl cholesterol fifty six hdl cholesterol. Forty eight triglycerides of one. Oh seven in addition. The patient had a timed urine protein tests performed and the album into creating ratio was three hundred fifty. So stephanie. Before we talk about the study that you reviewed in your i former x commentary. I'm wondering what's going through your mind in this case What are some of the key questions you ask this patient during the encounter and what additional apps if any might you want to obtain and is there any additional treatment options. Who'd be considering at this point to stewart. I would agree that. Kt really does mirror. Many of the patients that are encountered in clinical practice. And i think this case excites me because there are many opportunities for the pharmacists to intervene here and if we're going to utilize the ppc process. I would. I want to collect additional information from kt. for example. Does she smoke. How often is she using her naproxen. And at what dose. I'd also want to collect possible. Her a. one c. Blood pressure and serum craton and trends and we know how important it is to not evaluate labs in isolation so seeing her patterns would provide additional insight or care planning. It's really important to know. Kt's renal function is stable or if it's consistently fluctuating as this information would help our assessment of how we can manage. Her current metformin does since her egfr is approaching the cutoff for continue at minimum. She needed both reduction. And also story the for thinking about the potential use of sglt two inhibitors for katie ensuring that arena function is stable. What help us feel more comfortable recommending. Its use since we know that there have been reports of a two kidney injury and volume depletion upon initiation of these drugs. I don't want wanna collect a bit more information about her. Lifestyle habits including a general understanding of her dietary choices notably her sodium and protein intake and see if she is engaging in any physical activity given her need when the patient and osteoarthritis. I'd also wanna know her insurance provider and learn if she's burdened by any of the cost of her current medications in case we want to add anything in the future cd management perspective. I'm really happy to see that. She's on than a pro because she has albumin. Urea but further management is needed to help delay rano progression and when we think of good. Ck d. management. We need to consider it. I optimizing her glycemic control which looks really good for. Kt at this point and also painting and maintaining a blood pressure will have less than one thirty over eighty if we can do that safely

Usa given that our passports are worthless and nobody wants us and so even if we wanted to go somewhere else we pretty much couldn't right now unless there. You have diplomatic immunity or something that buys you papal dispensation to travel outside the country for the most part. We're staying home but that doesn't mean you can't leave your house people you have to if you want or need to go somewhere. Follow whatever the rules are. There are some states that are not allowing people with license plates from outside of their region in so you might get caught at some road blockage area where they're going to ask you where you came from where you go into and maybe tell you need to turn around and go back where you came from. That could happen so if you want a plan a successful trip you need to really plant and part of that planning is deciding on where you're going to stay. It's really from me. That's where it begins if you're driving somewhere you need to know where you're going to stay along the route and in this environment you need to be checking on. How diligent is that lodging facility in deep cleansing and disinfecting and staying on top of keeping staff and visitors safe and from my point of view. You know it really bothers me. When i'm i meet somebody. And they just went somewhere. There was with a group of people and somebody says something about some destination and other people say oh we were there. We went there. And i'll say where did you stay 'cause for me. The hotel experience is not like just pulling up at a gasoline station and tanking up drive out and does it really matter. The only thing that matters is you got the kind of gasoline that works best for your car. At the best rate you could find in the area but say you know tell is not like tanking up at a petrol station. You see him. Spend too much time in ireland at against they. Should you really want to choose places that add to your memory bank and it bothers me when i asked somebody. Where did you stay. And they don't remember they don't remember or maybe they do remember and they d- embarrassed you know. Give the impression that they stayed in a dive so they just assumed not remember the places. You stay are a vital part of the trip and often when i hear somebody went to some wonderful place and they say they had a horrible time. When i start asking questions about it. They stayed in a horrible place that made all the difference in the world. So making investment in the memories of your life by choosing places that inspire you that uplift you that enhance your life experience and a hotel that i need to stay at that was recommended to me by Somebody i know for. Oh my gosh. Probably twenty five years used to work for me and my last life. We've stayed friends forever. Who lives in richmond. Virginia and said to me. And i just had the tv on youtube Letting it go through news. Channels one after another randomly and here came up the same report again and it's the report in which she makes a correction to name of a middle eastern country and while there is great criticism in this politically charged time of president trump soon to be former president trump. The one thing he didn't make a mistake on was the pronunciation of the country called qatar. And she rachel. Maddow spent unbelievable amounts of time giggling about how he pronounced it wrong. I'm here to tell you sh- he didn't. I actually sold the country of qatar. You didn't know it was for sale. By far too many Saudi arabia bahrain. I'm leaving somebody out of the u. a. n. We threw in egypt. Because then i would go to egypt to meet them because to do business meetings with the folks. It was two of the sons of one of the princes of saudi arabia's part of the hundred families that runs the country who was they were buying it A prince faisal was putting the money up for his two sons prince fahd and prince abdulaziz and it was a great learning experience. for me. the reason we would have Egypt into that group was so that i could go freely to do business in egypt where women can easily do. And i told them they could make me an honorary man which they did for queen elizabeth when she visited saudi arabia's so she wouldn't have to dress locally accepted attire for women. Because there's too much of an american woman riding around in my body and there's only so much i can take but the bottom line is that the country is qatar q. Eighty a are and the reason. It is called qatar. is that during the period. Eight nineteen eighty nine to one thousand nine hundred ninety two when we had the gulf war the recession the first news report that came on the air that mentioned qatar. The news reporter. The broadcast journalist didn't have a clue as to how to say it and said cutter and everybody else took their cue from that. Now if you live on the east coast of the us. How To Plan To Age Well

How To Plan To Age Well

"With me today is Stephanie Erickson. She has a book called plan for aging. Well, there's definitely something we should all be doing. So thanks for joining me Stephanie off. My pleasure. Thank you so much. So we were chatting before about your book and there was a three chapters that really interested me one is a topic. I talked about a lot putting together a team. But we also touched a little bit on how we age correctly how we age maybe not as correctly and then planning not just for your financial and physical health, but also the health of your soul, so can we start with maybe planning for our excuse me talking about how people aged well and how they age not so often. Yeah. Well, I think first of all there's a range of what's well and what's not well, so the first thing is we have to Define what that means to our self, right? Cuz a lot of people and I think women in particular, I know me and my friends we talk a lot about aging and we're talking about our skin. We're talking about our wrinkles. We're talking about what our body changes and that is a piece of Aging but there's the other part which you alluded to and we'll get to which is the heart and the soul of Aging but in terms like in in relationship to the book when I'm talking about aging well, I'm talking about meeting all of those needs that we Have those holistic needs the body mind and soul and doing that in a way where we are transparent and inclusive with our family sharing what our expectations are our value systems in conversations prior to a crisis cuz most of us end up reacting once there is one and we forget to plan in advance. So really I think aging well is about having some forethought thinking in advance about what you want your life to be as you get older and then sharing that plan and getting the buy-in from those around you that makes sense and as most listeners know, I have a grandmother that's a hundred thousand two and half so you definitely want to plan because I don't think most of us at the beginning of our adult life expect to live to be over a hundred and she did say three years ago three and a half years ago. She was striving to hit a hundred and five and this was right. I know right after my dad her oldest son had passed away that happened. Or 99th birthday day. We interned him at the military cemetery and I was like Fifty and a quarter and I just remember thinking I can't I can't there's a exhausted. There's no way I'm quite feel the same right now. So, you know, I'm all about quality mean if I can live to be a hundred and two and do all the things that I enjoy or not. Maybe mm but most of the things I enjoy great if not not interested. So, is there a way of kind of planning so people understand what our what our opinion of quality is? Cuz make sure I say that right quality not quantity. Well you were saying what you were saying is that you you want to live longer than a long as you can live in a way that's comfortable for you. And so I think that's about rethinking what our own expectations are in terms of what we're going to be able to do physically because the reality is as well. Get older we will have more physical difficulty moving around. I'm sorry. I'm not I'm very fit right now and very strong and fifty but I'm definitely not the same as I was when I was twenty-five. I was more fit and even stronger right? And so when I'm ninety I might still be really strong but that doesn't mean that I going to be able to you know, pump out Thirty push-ups or something, right? So I think we need to be realistic about what we mean and I think part of the challenge that I see is that people connect aging with that physical body and we're not addressing the other parts of us because I think even if our body slows down there are things that we can do internally that can bring us a lot of fulfillment and satisfaction. So even if our body is not is not moving in the same way. We can still feel fulfilled and that to me is the real challenge about aging well as is getting in touch with that part definitely having a purpose and and if you have a purpose then you can log Fulfilled is important. So can we touch on that a little bit before we move on to the other topics? We're going to talk about. Yeah, I think a purpose is is good and they, you know, our our identification so much is about the roles that we play and so much around work, right? So when people when you meet someone you'll say so what do you do? It's not like wage. Who are you? What are your about? It's what do you do? So everything is about you know, our role as a social worker. I'm a mom. I'm a wife, you know, it's all of these roles and so I think finding a purpose beyond what those rules are is really important and to start to find that deeper part of who we are earlier on because eventually we won't be working wage. Eventually. Our kids won't need us in the same way, you know, so if I'm not a social worker, who am I if I'm not caring for kids who are saying mommy, mommy, mommy every 15 minutes then who am I I need job. Find something else within me that makes me me that I can carry on Beyond and I think for me that's about the purpose is knowing who you are in another way outside of those traditional roles.

Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lopez deliver moving inauguration performances

"Inauguration musical performances are tricky but lady gaga jennifer lopez and garth brooks. Did exactly what we needed them to do. By stephanie's jaric when lady gaga the first performer. At the inauguration of president joe biden and vice president kamala harris step toward the podium to sing everything about her that tropical red poof of skirt. The colossal golden dove perched on her shoulder that milk made from moma hairdo. Was celebratory announcement. Welcome to the modern age. Though the road ahead is rocky we no longer need to live and dread gaga living completely in the moment had arrived to point the way toward the future inauguration musical performances in their need to balance solemnity with jubilation are always tricky propositions but the biden harris performances from gaga. Lo and garth brooks performers from disparate backgrounds and different disciplines struck a note. Unlike any we've previously heard let's call it a sigh of relief building to a cheer of exaltation. even the cloud strewn blue of the washington sky seemed key to the moment and to this particular event taking place in a spot where just two weeks ago a bunch of clumsy if dangerous insurrectionist took a run at democracy and failed jennifer lopez was the centerpiece performer. But let's talk about her. First emerging all white chanel. She projected confidence civil woman who has worked her way to the top of her game. White everyone likes to note is one of the colors of the suffragettes. But it's also the color of working people in machine washable cotton and the color of luxury and dry clean only silken wall in this remarkable. Hi lo j. lo outfit replete with snowy gibault possibly a not to the garb of our founding fathers lopez. Saying a remarkable song. This land is your land. It was written in nineteen forty by. Woody guthrie allegedly and shabby hotel room just outside of times square. Not on the six but in close enough for lopez to sing this song a protest anthem but also an irrefutable declaration of belonging with so much conviction and boldness is to bring guthrie's intent and his dream full circle. This is in america. He couldn't have imagined. "You know their safety is first and foremost Along with our passengers you know. I really don't want this to sound snarky or like i'm making a joke because on not i have never liked the word terminal associated with a place like where you get on ships or where you take a plane from costs. It sounds very final. There is something about the word terminal that is terminal. I wish in especially in light of what's going on today. We could find another word that worked better. That sounded a little cheerier at least to my insane mind because some never did like that word for train stations and airports whatever anyway just part of my own craziness. Whatever i ask you that you want to be sure. Our audience knows about washington. State ferries. i'm just trying to come up with an alternate per terminal. I like doc angry. Good go is talk that works and then yeah. I mean you know it's cheerier too. I mean it's then easier to spell but anyway but is there. Is there anything else you message. You wanna leave with our listeners. You know i just say that. Really looking forward to You know sunny. Your weather here hopefully The kobe situation improving greatly so he can welcome all of our customers. Back on board It's a great way to see puget sound in washington state. There's a reason where the number one tourist attraction Getting out of the water is really magical and some of the tourist. Welcome here you know. Or maybe from the midwest or wherever where they just haven't seen a whole lot of salt water and you can tell those people because they'll be out on the front of the vote When wail goes by audibly all gasp gasping. That's something that's fairly common out here. See so we'd love to see again especially the summer special months of the year. When you've got a better shot at seeing wales. Yeah you know it seems to me. I'm not the whale expert but it seems to me that especially in the northern waters. You know that that route from monaco. "Welcome to travel with stephanie. Abrams and any year. I can remember and i guess that's because i sort of feel like the back wheels trying to keep up with the front wheels. Normally we used to say pretty much everything. The travel industry changed then. It went to weekly daily then. It went to hourly down to nano seconds every nanoseconds. Something else happens affecting the travel industry and at this point a preponderance of it drizzling off of this covid nineteen. That's followed us into twenty twenty one twenty twenty being the year that we'd like to forget about certainly overcome. And although i have to tell you the five months. We were marooned in ireland. I wouldn't give back for all the money in the world. That was an amazing amazing experience. And it brings me to something. I'm hoping to tackle early on with our very wonderful guest. This our guest. We had on the air with us either in june or july while we were still in ireland maroon unable to get home. And that's zane kirby He's the ceo. I think that's his title. Maybe it's president. I'll have to ask again. He's the head honcho The executive administrative directing type at the top of the american society of travel advisers a prestigious organization that lobbies on behalf of the travel industry which truly needs a lobby because far too often people making decisions as they relate to travel. Don't know the first thing about the effect of their decisions on the travel industry or the people who are travelers and one of the reasons. I've invited saying kirby on today is to tackle the question i've been dealing with the last few weeks. I want you to know that. This interview is being recorded Around christmas new years time. So you're hearing it after the new year because we have so many interviews already scheduled that we had to get in and saying is being the busy man he is. We had a tough time matching our schedule with his to find the appropriate spot but we nailed them today. People and you're really in for the real information. I've been really troubled about something and the thing i've been troubled about. Is that just before thanksgiving someone whose name completely escapes me. Didn't recognize the fellow on tv. Didn't catch his name flash across the screen. He's obviously in some position of power. And i don't know if he's in medicine or somewhere in. Us government but his remark was simple words. Not the two words you thinking of. By the way the two words were don't travel it might as well be the two words you were thinking of because you know. I am the biggest coward on the face of the earth. You know if you've listened more than once you know. I don't go anywhere. I might not come back the same or better. I enjoy living. I enjoy life. I am not a risk taker. But it seems to me. You have to use the proper information. And you're good hor sense to figure out what's real and what's not real what's right and what's not right and i really think. The travel industry was done a disservice especially when there are hotels and car rental companies and museums and attractions of all kinds. That are going to unbelievable. Lengths to sanitize deep clean deep scrawled. Make the environment safe for the staff and the people who visit there and just say don't travel. I just seemed to me the message should have been duncan into crowds. Don't get close to people. Don't inhale and exhale the same air that the guy next to you is inhaling an extra link make sure there is nobody next to you and we're very lucky the. Us is huge while other people. Don't want our passport. The moment they're busting for it actually but good census telling them don't invite americans at this moment into other countries but you can travel in your own car to wonderful places or rent a car from place. You have confidence in that. They're doing the job to sanitize it between renters and go to all the wonderful outdoorsy places staying in wonderful hotels and using the help of travel advisors in the know who are doing that research and especially those that are asked the members getting the kind of information that guides them into. Who's doing an above average job at keeping their staff and their guests. Their visitors their customer safe. I think that should have been the story. Not don't travel. I couldn't agree more stephanie. So i wanna thank you zane kirby for joining us. Let's get right into it. Talk to me. What do you think about. I mean am. I gone round the bend and off the wall. Well you know. I'm of a definitely a bias. Definitely by a source here. But but i think you're absolutely right. In risk management does not be risked. Elimination right. You can't relate all risks from your life now of course you know. The pandemic is taking a tremendous toll. But we know that public health is a shared responsibility between individuals and and supplier companies. As you mentioned but we feel Eating every travel traveler fully informed by their expert travel adviser should be able to determine their own tolerance for travel risk tolerance. You know there are some people who are in much more much sort of high risk categories than others but just saying don't travel is like saying. Don't go outside. I just i i fail to see how that how that's sustainable or enforceable or even practical. Yeah and and i'm gonna add the word sensible. I didn't think it made sense to me and truly zane. I mean why are we know. Each other and we have crossed paths for ages for years in the travel industry. I i don't think you know me well enough to know what chicken i am. I so i you know. I am the last one who's going to say. Go someplace if i think it's a dangerous place to go to but on the other hand you know i'm the one that believes you've got to get to the other side of the road. And if there's an eighteen wheeler coming down the pike at eighty miles an hour maybe wanna wait till he goes by before you cross instead of running in front of it but it doesn't mean because there are some big heavy machinery driving on the highways that you shouldn't cross the road i just it doesn't make sense to me.

"A a farmer's newspaper ryan but at magazine is a really important scene in that movie where i walk up and get the business card from editor. Because i knew if i could start writing for that magazine. That could really help me get ahead in the kennel industry. Because then i could write about some projects. And i had to gut stick up there and asked for the card that also gave me a press pass which got me into all kinds of expensive national livestock meetings. That i wouldn't have been able to afford it to go to you. Know that's a that's an important scene. I saw that door. And i walked through it. But when you were writing people thought you were a man and you and it was believed by one and all that if they knew you a woman they wouldn't have taken you seriously well. The local people in arizona didn't know it was a woman. But i can tell you being a woman in a man's world. I was very very difficult and that was much more difficult than the autism part of it was and when i had to do is make myself be the best what i said in my business starting back in the early seventies was make myself an expert in a highly specialized area that fortunately at the time had very little competition i picked out a specialized niche market to make myself an expert at and that market was designing handling facilities for feedlots and ranches and be cracking points in the film. You see how distressed the cows were on their way to slaughter based on all the time about whether cow. No they're gonna get slaughtered. That's something i had to answer. Abrams spanish point-of-view. Look on the map of ireland. Look on the west coast. Look at county clare. Find the cliffs of moher which about halfway between the top and bottom of the area. Mark the burn. You'll see doolan. Keep going a little bit south. You're gonna come to spanish point. And that is the place where so many ships from the spanish armada that thought they were going to come and take over. Ireland instead crashed against the rocks. And i've heard all kinds of stories going back ten thousand years as to why there are irish people with black hair and blue eyes. One of those stories tributed to the spanish sailors crashing at spanish point. And there's also an irish folk song called spanish lady and because they were catholic they easily assimilated integrated into the country married. The sailors married in with the beautiful colleen lessons here. And that's why you get the black irish black hair blue eyes. There's another story that goes back a peninsula and ten thousand years worth of immigration. I think i think if you actually listen to the account of francesca to kuala. Here's a spanish captain who was wrecked Thirty miles from here in grange. They were three. Boats turned up in the storms on the slager beach. Strand street up here writes a taylor and his story is really really interesting and Fifteen eight he describes being was on the beach and he also describes the carnage on the beach. The the he says he describes a english cavalry or soldiers on horseback. Coming up and down to about one thousand sailors and soldiers thrown up on the sand and english were galloping up and down and cutting their throats the irish will were busy stealing their boots. And i think that probably majority the irish sorry majority spanish Were probably assassinated on the beaches English at that time and only a small number would have actually got into the population. The most likely event is some of the way up here in spanish. Point is south. Yeah three is mayo. Galway clues plenty of english english and well food for ireland and the story. I heard sounds more probable. Is that the the spanish from ten thousand years ago followed the ice age up and integrated anglo-saxons with the red hair came down from the northeast and the dark dark skinned people came up from the south. That would probably be more a likely story. Yeah there was a one of didn't do spanish holidays to madrid in the fifteen hundreds. Now they have reina. But you know it took me until about five years ago. I want to say when i was sitting in the front row at an event That tourism ireland was doing. I think it was when we were in hong kong at the was wanting to the last international a american society of travel agents conventions that was out of the country and We were. They saved us a front row seat at the This wonderful event that tourism ireland was doing and the irish step dancers came out and it was the first time i ever watched irish step dancers move arms because normally keep their arms at their sides and these dancers heather arms up and i went. Oh my goodness flamenco will. Yes but that moment. I mean how. Many times i've seen for michael dancers and there's and i never made the connection until that moment they move her arms.
