Wokelash Comes Back to Bite Democrats

"The woke lash that we experienced this week. Is being interpreted by different camps in the Democrat party. The Democrat party's not really sure how to proceed. So, on one side, you say we were not, radical enough. That's Elon Omar, AOC. They say they didn't do CRT enough. David plot. We have Stephanie cutter, James carville, who came out and said that we need a woke detox. Well let me tell you, let me just kind of end the suspense for you if you will. That Democrats made a decision right as Floyd a palooza was beginning in last June. As Floyd a palooza was happening, and we had $3 billion in damages across the country, Wendy's on fire, police officers getting shot, Democrats saw a kinetic political energy that they wanted to seize for their own machiavellian, short term. Power goals. They didn't care about the cost. They made an all in bet on the racial arguments that this was going to be as significant as powerful as persuasive and as permanent. As the sudden shift on gay marriage in America. The Democrat consultants, the corporate hacks, they all said okay. The same way that Americans attitudes on gay marriage change dramatically in almost 5 years, that is going to be the case with race. That we are going to be we have to be ahead of this thing and we want to be the party of woke.

"To this. this is this. Is stephanie rule and julia. Ainsley on msnbc now we have to turn to texas where the migrant crisis maybe on the verge of getting a whole lot worse. You've seen the pictures of haitian migrants camp under a bridge in del rio. Roughly twenty excuse me twelve thousand of them but now we're learning that thousands more could be on their way from columbia from panama from peru. That can triple the number of migrants in south texas. Nbc's mortgage huskies in del rio. Julia ainsley covers the vhs. She broke the story about this new group of migrants. That may be headed here. Truly at what. Can you tell us if you'd think about what has happened in haiti in the last few weeks in the last few years. It's a dire situation at home for them it is. There really isn't a home for these people to go back to stephanie. A lot of these haitians left their home country. Some around the two thousand ten earthquake others during the devastating events. They're both natural and political. That have occurred in haiti over these years. They've been living in south america. Many of them were there around the olympics. In two thousand sixteen their opportunities there have dried up. It is very hard for them to find work or find any way to feed their families and now according to internal documents that we obtained last night. Dhs monitoring a group of more than twenty thousand haitians that have all amassed northern colombia. Maybe the next group to come here. They're also more than a thousand and panama more than a thousand in peru. they're also monitoring these groups to see if they come. Thousands of haitians are gathering in other countries preparing to enter the united states. All dude to to to joe biden and his policies all due to this administration's open borders remember. "But I want to talk about what's happening right now at the southern border because literally something like 12,000 illegal migrants crossed illegally into the United States since Thursday night. How about the message from our vice president? Where is she? She was supposed to be in charge of all of these migration issues going to those Northern triangle countries. That's obviously not Haiti. That was one of her first international trips with the message. Do not come here illegally. People aren't listening. What is she saying now? Well, we haven't heard a lot from the vice president. Of course, you point out she was focused on this Northern triangle countries. A lot of her work was in Guatemala working with that government. "That highly contagious delta and having a major impact on the economy so many employers looking for workers yet. The new jobs report showing us. Us hiring falling far short of expectations in august. So what's going on. Our stephanie rule explains today disappointment and a disconnect only two hundred and thirty five thousand jobs created just a third of what was expected despite a record ten million job openings and employers desperate to find workers. There's no question. The della variant is why today's job report is stronger. I know people were looking at. I was hoping for a higher number the surging delta variant putting the brakes on months of strong job growth. That's pushed the unemployment rate to the lowest level. Since the beginning of the pandemic hiring had been driven largely by restaurants bars and hotels. But in all of this that came to a halt employers hired fewer people because consumers are going out less and people are not applying for jobs that could expose them to cove it. This is seven and a half million out of work. Americans will lose federal unemployment benefits beginning this weekend. Another three million. We'll see their weekly checks cut by three hundred dollars. It's an abrupt end to federal aid available since the start of the pandemic in new mexico. Jessica healthy has been receiving four hundred sixty nine dollars a week. It will drop to one sixty nine on without these unemployment benefits. What would that mean to you. That means that some of my bill won't get paid while many who lost benefits in the summer did not return to work. This fall with schools reopening a steady rise in wages and other pandemic relief ending. The hope is more people start working again. But some economists warn that it may take time. Most of those. Many millions of people are not going to be able to find jobs

It's a break-up record full of melancholy pot-bangers and now solar power has her back with a more subdued sound both the title track and the single stoned at the nail salon position lord as a worldly and weary twenty four year old. "Now going back at you talked about working at some by any os and such so. The fascinates me is what is it. That differentiates a so. You did it as a curator correct. Now i didn't. I was the curator thoughts in the case of documenta levin hundred curatorial assistant but i worked really closely with a curator's which obviously influenced my curatorial work later on. But when i worked for documenta and the biennial i was not a curator. Or in the case of documented eleven as a curatorial assistant whereas at the berlin biennial. I had different roles kind of like moved up the ladder from the third to the fourth to the fifth biennial so i ended up project manager in the fifth one but in all cases my positions where an kit in what was called the autistic office so it was working closely with the curator on the one side with the artists on the other sides. When Did Marriage Become so Hard?

"To understand marriage. Today we thought it best to go back to a time and place when marriage was very different. Well i've been studying the history of family for many many years. But i specifically got interested in marriage as we got into these debates. About what traditional marriage was that. Stephanie coons. She's a professor at the evergreen state college and the author of the book marriage a history. Stephanie says the earliest marriages had nothing to do with the feelings of two people or their attraction to one. Another as you probably know marriage was much more about economics and acquiring powerful inlaws marriage originally arose in more egalitarian ban level societies as a way of sharing resources and establishing a peaceful relations with groups. That you might otherwise only see occasionally and you might not know if they were going to be friends or enemies It was a way of circulating obligations and goods. Mary my child off to you and that means you owe me things. But i also you things. Stephanie brought up a famous example from history. The union between cleopatra of egypt and mark antony of rome elizabeth taylor as cleopatra siren of the niles this is from a nineteen sixty three film version. Richard burton as mark antony impetuous leader once in pinson legion dreaded adversary on the field of battle. The hollywood version of the story portrays cleopatra and antony as being very much in love but stephanie paints a slightly different picture. I think the theme song for that Relationship could have been what's love got to do with it. They may have been passionate but it was more passion for power than a sexual. Although sexual probably entered into it to cleopatra and antony marriage was primarily about strategy wrong egypt with the two most powerful empires in the world so getting them anybody who got them together and the gotten alliance between them would be unstoppable.

Yeah they'll hausa one of those hidden gems And our country that You know it's I worked for the state tourism office years ago. And i'd opportunity to kind of make promotes a whole state as a whole and There is so much travel and tourism product here in the state and successful. Everyone amini so close. You know your what five hundred miles from sixty percent of the us population. So there's a lot of people close to State of ohio as well. So it's a great state for sure. And what point did people in dublin. About what decade was it in. Or what year was it when somebody said people come here expecting to really have an irish experience. Let's play it up. When did that happen. That was probably not the late seventies. And i think the thing that really of you know started at all what was festival so you know people are sitting again then our city was maybe ten thousand dollars. Utah you know. I can do some kind of festival in czech people and for central high on across country so they created the detonators festival. You know forty five forty seven years ago and That's what really started at all and today a festival is the largest three day irish festival in the united states. Irish best the worst. Well it's the three day festival. So i think that's yes i rish fest. Yeah it's milwaukee. They have festivals every weekend all summer long. And the ones that are ethnically themed are just called summer fest and the rest are like mexican fast arabic fest. Jewish fest greek fest italian fast and irish fest and there's probably more than i can't even think of but i guess technically that starts on thursday after late late like you know late thursday thursday evening. There's a like a preview for a few hours. And but it's really friday saturday sunday and they generally get well. I haven't looked at it and ten years. But i'm going to say they in that timeframe they we get andrea and thirty five thousand people in the weekend furnish so are draw more than that. No ours is just one hundred thousand. Okay good because you're probably about the same size if you extract. Maybe twenty thousand show. Thirty thursday night but the preponderance com. It starts usually like four o'clock with a ribbon. Cutting fry friday afternoon runs through to friday evening. And then all hell breaks loose for saturday and sunday and with fireworks. So it's It's it's quite you know an event but but it said on the fairgrounds and it's beautiful because it's it fronts. Right on lake michigan alkali. Your different. I mean you're in a place that you've made look like your in ireland. No yeah for sure. I mean that's again like to your point that the community itself the residents civilly gravitated accepted or having a lot of fun without giving another example. We have three high schools in town and their nickname to the shamrocks. The celtics in the irish three nicknames of our high schools All our fire hydrants are green in town just little examples like that. Decisions really embraced You know the excitement of the irish and there's a lot of pubs and restaurants are cubs in town. I've been very focused on how to travel. I've been very focused on how to travel for a long time. Because i believe you need to travel richly and you have to travel a rude. I call intentional. Travel know what you want before you leave your house because too often people come back from trips and they say things like oh after we got there. We found out. They didn't have this in that. Which is really important to me or Whatever it was that i enjoy doing was too far away or we found about it on. We found out about on the last day. The trampoline never got to do this. We never got to do that knowing what you want from a trip. Which doesn't mean lining up from google. The top ten sites that somebody else thinks you ought to say but knowing what you want out of a trip before you go will eliminate coming back from the trip making remarks like we went but we miss this that we didn't see this new we found out about it. We were leaving town. We don't want that to happen to you. So that's on the intentional travel side. But there's another side that i call travel richly and that includes not going anywhere that you think you're gonna come back not so good that you want to go to places that you've done your due diligence to know you're going to come back if not the same. You're going to come back better somehow. You're going to feel at the end of your visit that you are leaving enriched enhanced inspired and uplifted and have just had experiences that have made you a better person going forward in your life and i've interviewed scott drinking the president. Ceo of visit dublin. Ohio you can visit them at visit. Dublin ohio dot com before. Because i was so intrigued with the idea that you could find a real irish experience in of all places ohio. A gorgeous state by the way. So if you're concerned about traveling still and with good reason follow all the rules. You know what they are. Take a road trip. Keep your distance where you mask. Have latex gloves available for when you do things. Like stop at the filling station to guess up your tank and keep hindi white kind of things sanitizers hand sanitizers hand joe but pay attention to social distancing and places to stay to minimize contact and there are so many places so many hoteliers who are going out of their way to make a whole check in check out system completely contact lists and so many hotels had contactless check out for gosh couple of decca probably three decades. Since the internet popular people could go on the tv in their room of their hotel and go to the hotel's closed circuit and using the keypad of the remote control. Check out never having to go to the front desk xpress checkout that's been around forever and now that they're hotels biking just as easy to check in without having to do a face to face with anybody but i'm interested in you know we've got saint patrick's day coming up any second and that's a place And a time of year dublin. Ohio the intersection of dublin. Ohio and saint patrick's day. I've never experienced. But i have to imagine it is something uniquely special and extraordinary and i'm wondering what has it been like in years from twenty nineteen earlier and what's happening this year. So let's turn it over to scott dring who's on the line with us live from dublin. Ohio what is a normal year. Saint patrick celebration like in dublin. Ohio scotland it's a bash. It is a huge party and You know we have a one of the largest tugs day trades on as you can imagine young town the saturday You remember at the four. Santa stay as well Streets are closed. It's a festival atmosphere. We have lots of restaurants and bars specialist going on the whole the whole weekend so it. It's it's say it's a great time the here and You know it's kind of ironic that you you're going to your your protocols everything this time last year That saint tash occc weaken the wednesday before. A parade is when Everything can hit and we cancelled the parade two days before it was supposed to happen. So you know it's it's definitely been a unique year. I'm worked side of this year that we thought there's no way would not have to saint patrick's day parades in a row. So we're doing some rural unique We are doing reverse parade so we have a huge park urines. How where we're gonna have the floats and every the band's they'll be stationary and then people will be in their cars. Were drive around themselves. They'll be the ones going enjoying the parade themselves while the praise kind of stationary We can stole the idea from mardi gras. If you if you saw their success down there would be day. "Dublin ohio and aimed it. I do the shields john shields. What was his name. So was the shields family that actually did it. So yeah anuradha though hausa one of those hidden gems And our country that i worked for the state tourism office years and years ago and i'd opportunity to kind of make promotes the whole state as a whole and There is so much travel and tourism product here in the state and so suld everyone immediately so close you know your what five hundred miles from sixty percent of the us taught so there's a lot of people close to The state of ohio as well. So it's a great state for sure right while at. What point did people in dublin. About what decade was it in or what year was when somebody says people come here expecting to really have an irish experience. Let's play it up. When did that happen. It was probably not the late seventies. And i think the thing that really have You know started at all what was festival so you know people are are sitting again back in our city was maybe ten fifteen thousand nine huge at all. You know like okay. Let's do some kind of festival and attract people and for central ohio and across country said create the detonators festival. You know forty five forty seven years ago and That's what really started at all and today festival is the largest three day Irish festival in the united states is bigger than irish best. Where we're well. It's lucky three day festival. So i think that's three irish fest. Yeah it's milwaukee. They have a festivals every weekend all summer long and the ones that are ethnically themed are just called summer fest and the rest are like mexican fast arabic fast. Jewish fest greek fest italian and irish fest. And there's probably more than i can't even think of put. I guess technically that starts on thursday after late late like late. Thursday like thursday evening. There's a like a preview for a few hours. And but it's really friday saturday sunday and they generally get well. I haven't looked at it in ten years. But i'm gonna say they in that timeframe they we get hundred thirty five thousand people in the weekend furnish fast. So are you drying more than that. No ours is just one hundred thousand. Okay good you know. You're probably about the same size. If you extract. Maybe twenty thousand show up thirty thursday night you know then the but the pre preponderance com. It starts usually like four o'clock with a ribbon cutting fry friday afternoon run through friday evening and then all hell breaks loose for saturday and sunday and it's with fireworks so it's It's it's quite you know an event but but it said on the fairgrounds and it's beautiful because it's it fronts. Right on lake michigan your different. I mean you're in a place that you've made look like your in ireland. No yeah for sure. I mean that's getting in like she to your point that the community itself residents civilly gravitated accepted are having a lot of fun. Decisions really embraced You know the excitement of the irish pubs and restaurants are cubs in town. We have we have a new downtown here that Historic district also new developments. "Well i first of all seventy unless you experience as we we really don't go out Pursuing clients the we are one hundred percents Referral company And so when when we were approached by different hotel or different destination management company Typically they already know who we are and we already know who they are and So in terms of a set of standards These things are are somewhat already in place. We obviously are looking for a luxury hotel. The thing that is some common the common thread amongst our collection is authenticity. Private ownership Not being part of a brand or a chain We liked worked directly with owners general managers. And we'd like to to have that relationship that's very very deep rooted seated so that when we are referring an agent Who wants to book their client at the hotel. We can ensure that those clients are going to arrive and get the best possible personalized experience that there is out there. Here's what i want you to explain for our audience. There are people listening. Who are saying. I know how to go online and i know how to put in what i'm looking for and where i wanna find it because that's where i'll be traveling in this region or in the city or in this province or in this town village and i could find this on my own. Why do i need to work with a travel advisor. And why do they need to come to you. And what's wrong with the travel advisor. They can't find this place on their own. You know That's great question. Our our job first of all for this side of the travel adviser is to provide them with the overall best products that they can sell and best places they can recommend to their clients and we do so through a number of ways and that is by one bringing them there To introducing them and and building that bridge with the owners and management team at the property in terms of people. You know shopping for their hotels online. It's very common right now. And i think a lot of people have done. It's without traveled visors and realize that not everything like in general online is is what you see is not always what you can believe not so cross with the internet. You say those words. Brad makes any giggle. Because truly it is brain surgery. Self-inflicted advisor can bring so many things to the table for you including you know added values but also just personal knowledge and you know they can make your arrival experience so much different your whole states so much different. Your room will be so much different because lee personalized towards who you are You know their algorithms really cannot do that now. And you know it's funny Hundred years ago After i left the realm of being what used to be called to travel agent for the were travel advisor came into play I then went to work for a A wholesaler But we were a wholesaler. We were tour operator. We were the ground service in a whole bunch of countries in europe and you may have run the company in in in europe it was known as via ecuador and we hired a four offices in italy and one in paris one in london and eighty six Spain every every city in spain had of the asset door office in the us. We got them to call the company v. e. tours because nobody could save walks ecuador and they felt. We sold south america. They didn't get it. We always sold was europe and i would have agents. This is long enough ago where this would have been in the early eighties where there were travel agents ready to sell their business and retire. Who had never worked with the wholesaler and they believed that they could do whatever they needed directly with hoteliers because they had developed relationships and this and that and i used to say to them. What else do you use. And they mentioned a country and the hotel. And whatever. And i'd say and what kind of rates are you getting. And then i tell them what are rate was because they would give them maybe twenty room nights a year and we would give them what in that one hotel if it was you know in popular location we might give them five thousand room nights a month so we got treated a little different. You know when you're sitting in that driver's seat the magic you can make that is an even thought about as a possibility by agents or the traveler has no idea and everybody's wonderful and everything is great when things are going right. What separates one from another from from the whole harm to the amazing is when things go wrong. I know who knows how to fly in with a magic wand and straighten it all out in seconds not after come home and you write a letter about how unhappy you are. Well you know. Maybe they'll compensate you with something for your next trip. Maybe if you're really telling the truth and you didn't make it up just to try to get a room and especially advantage for future which already people do is frightening. But you know you can't get the time back. You can't get a little little time as it is. Yeah no kidding. We're gonna take a quick break and come back. i'd love to have just sepe. And his charming accent. Giuseppi happy the palmer chime in and talk with us co owner partner in russia experiences. We'll be right back. Don't leave me be sure you've you. Usa given that our passports are worthless and nobody wants us and so even if we wanted to go somewhere else we pretty much couldn't right now unless there. You have diplomatic immunity or something that buys you papal dispensation to travel outside the country for the most part. We're staying home but that doesn't mean you can't leave your house people you have to if you want or need to go somewhere. Follow whatever the rules are. There are some states that are not allowing people with license plates from outside of their region in so you might get caught at some road blockage area where they're going to ask you where you came from where you go into and maybe tell you need to turn around and go back where you came from. That could happen so if you want a plan a successful trip you need to really plant and part of that planning is deciding on where you're going to stay. It's really from me. That's where it begins if you're driving somewhere you need to know where you're going to stay along the route and in this environment you need to be checking on. How diligent is that lodging facility in deep cleansing and disinfecting and staying on top of keeping staff and visitors safe and from my point of view. You know it really bothers me. When i'm i meet somebody. And they just went somewhere. There was with a group of people and somebody says something about some destination and other people say oh we were there. We went there. And i'll say where did you stay 'cause for me. The hotel experience is not like just pulling up at a gasoline station and tanking up drive out and does it really matter. The only thing that matters is you got the kind of gasoline that works best for your car. At the best rate you could find in the area but say you know tell is not like tanking up at a petrol station. You see him. Spend too much time in ireland at against they. Should you really want to choose places that add to your memory bank and it bothers me when i asked somebody. Where did you stay. And they don't remember they don't remember or maybe they do remember and they d- embarrassed you know. Give the impression that they stayed in a dive so they just assumed not remember the places. You stay are a vital part of the trip and often when i hear somebody went to some wonderful place and they say they had a horrible time. When i start asking questions about it. They stayed in a horrible place that made all the difference in the world. So making investment in the memories of your life by choosing places that inspire you that uplift you that enhance your life experience and a hotel that i need to stay at that was recommended to me by Somebody i know for. Because i knew if i could start writing for that magazine. That could really help me get ahead in the kennel industry. Because then i could write about some projects. And i had to gut stick up there and asked for the card that also gave me a press pass which got me into all kinds of expensive national livestock meetings. That i wouldn't have been able to afford it to go to you. Know that's a that's an important scene. I saw that door. And i walked through it. But when you were writing people thought you were a man and you and it was believed by one and all that if they knew you a woman they wouldn't have taken you seriously well. The local people in arizona didn't know it was a woman. But i can tell you being a woman in a man's world. I was very very difficult and that was much more difficult than the autism part of it was and when i had to do is make myself be the best what i said in my business starting back in the early seventies was make myself an expert in a highly specialized area that fortunately at the time had very little competition i picked out a specialized niche market to make myself an expert at and that market was designing handling facilities for feedlots and ranches and be cracking points in the film. Destination and snow melt is essentially excess heat from generating electricity from our power plant from our power plants. is captured in the cooling tower. And that warm water is pumped into one inch sides tubing. That's all underneath our streets and sidewalks so ninety five degrees of hot water. That could probably be considered warm water at that point. flows through our downtown and it melts the snow and gives us no ice in our downtown. So you know. We do. Consider ourselves a year round destination. Summer is extremely popular for us because we are a beach town So a lot of people come to holland. Spent some time to the beach. "Locker in resort or is that that was actually on the original ground that we built the result so kathleen clubhouse indeed there with your capital. Human capital doesn't exist anymore There is an old coat in hill. You know when you come across. The drawbridge daphne and you look to your right and you can see. The original job coats one of sweets. He's actually named after the dovecote. They've only part standing of the original capital of custody. Suites is named after the architect that designed to him. That was which so. Tell me about your spa. Because i have to imagine. There are some companions of golfers who aren't interested in golfing and could use that time to kind of veg out and rejuvenate now so we do. We have a lot of very popular with the gulf. And so we'll have couples come and play apart from the corporate both days and obviously the societies that come from all over europe we get a lot european-gulf of some you can again within the island-by-island abs. When travel is the way the way it usually is we would get and some americans which play the part time courses and the do. You'll be fine. There is so much going on that has been troubling to me. A needless to say. I'm sure you've felt troubled all year as well but specifically as it relates to travel. I am a great believer in things like insurance and ensuring that you are traveling richly and that you are traveling in a safe cautious healthful manner which you know even includes going back to things that i would talk about like you know when you travel somewhere. There is no beach in the world. That is safe at night. Except maybe the few hundred yards out in front of thou. Tell your staying at that. Has security cameras and lighting and people that work for the hotel out on the beach all the time but for most places. There's a dark street. Probably use your course sense that mamma taught you. Don't go walking down there in the dark. You know even thieves go on vacation and if you look like an easy mark you're going to get hit no matter where you are ladies. Do not a hang your purse with its little hands all or it's long shoulder strap over the back of your chair. A is an invitation davos purse stolen. I know i had. It happened to me in a very fancy of new york city restaurant. And when i got to the police station in the local precinct to file the report they assigned a female police officer to my case and i got an education on what you don't do and one of them is to hundred. Hang your person in the back of your chair. Ever put it in your lap tight around your ankle. Do not let loose there. 'cause it's gonna take a walk but those were things we worried about normally about safety about how not to get mugged about how not to have your your personal items stolen. How not to look like what one would call a rube a mark. Somebody easy to attack. We're now dealing with an attacker. We can't see and who doesn't have is to see us either. This covert thing is. It's a real serious challenge and travel industry. Not only of the us but even more so outside the us. Globally has undertaken regiments protocols guidelines roles regulations to assure the safety of travel at. It's more formalized inside the us. We're pretty laissez-faire leaving it to state cities towns municipalities individual brands to come up with their own solutions where other parts of the world have taken a really active role in providing every industry with guidelines unique to that industry to follow to keep their workers and their customers safe. And so i've got my own set of rules and regulations based on what i have gleaned from various brands that have put out copious manuals for particularly hotels car rental companies for airlines and airports. But i've taken the best of the best of the good ideas on how to stay safe. And i would in a heartbeat. Get in my car and take a road trip. And i would do my due diligence to stay at hotels resorts and motels where i have some assurance that they are deep cleaning deep disinfecting taking care to keep people distance from one another and so i kind. I had a very negative reaction just before thanksgiving when somebody came out. And you know. I remember everything i cannot tell you. This man say it's i think it's freudian repression. Who came out and said do not travel. I'm not so sure about that. I really don't believe that's the right answer. I don't believe you really have to stay home. I think what you have to do is suit up with all the things. You're supposed to do to say sanitized including masks. Latex gloves were necessary disinfecting things traveling with your hand. Sanitizer washing your hands often stay out of crowds and doing your best to avoid any situation where you have a problem with being in a crowd. It's not that you can't travel. It's such a can't travel in groups of people you don't know and so you know that's my opinion. I leaving your capable hands because you need to make your own judgment. You need to do your own due diligence. You need to feel comfortable that you're not putting yourself at risk so i am not suggesting that you must travel. I suggesting that if you're one of the people who feels comfortable to go traveling.
