"Good morning, I'm Ed Donohue. One week into a at strike three by autoworkers plants, the walkout is being expanded. United Autoworkers Union President Sean Fain says progress is being made in talks with Ford. There hasn't been much progress in Stellantis. All of the parts distribution facilities at General Motors and Stellantis are being to stand up and strike. We will be striking 38 locations across 20 states across all nine regions of the UAW. Workers are already on strike at a Ford near factory Detroit, a GM plant outside St. Louis, and a Stellantis Jeep plant in Toledo, Ohio. New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez is again facing federal charges. Here's the AP's Sagar Magani. Menendez and his wife have been indicted on bribery charges. Prosecutors say a search of their home turned up $100 ,000 in gold bars and $480 ,000 in hidden cash. The new charges are unrelated to a case six years ago when a jury deadlocked over whether Menendez accepted lavish gifts from a friend to pressure government officials. The Senate Historical Office says the Democrat appears to be the first sitting US Senator indicted on two unrelated criminal elections. Menendez is facing reelection next year with Democrats holding a slim Senate majority. Sagar Magani, Washington. Russia says a Ukrainian missile strike hit the headquarters of Russia's Black Sea fleet and annexed Crimea. Pope Francis is in the French port city of Marseille. His message? He wants Mediterranean the to be a man wanted for 2021 killing in Minnesota, who was mistakenly released from jail in Indianapolis last week. Kevin Mason is believed to be in Indianapolis or the United States. I'm Seth Suttel, this is Markets In A Minute. Stocks are edging higher in early trading, giving Wall Street a bit of reprieve. The market is still headed for its worst week in six months. S &P The S 500 was up 0 .2 % early Friday. The Dow was a little changed. The Nasdaq Composite rose 0 0 .5 %. All three indexes are coming off a steep slide that was caused by the stock market's growing understanding that interest rates aren't likely to come down much any time soon. Treasury yields eased a bit after jumping the earlier week in to their highest levels in more than a decade. The yield on the 10 -year Treasury note, which helped set mortgage rates, edged the week. That rate is still near its highest level since 2007. the year. Elastic slumped 10%. The publisher of children's books and teaching materials reported a loss that was much higher wider than Wall Street was expecting. Seth Sutell, New York.

What didn't go wrong? He quoted a recent court statement to support his stance, highlighting that the SEC's denial of his ETF proposal was arbitrary and capricious. Here we have Scott Melker, a friend of the channel, that turns out the law doesn't agree with the SEC at all on almost any enforcement action. Love to see it. Hashtag fire Gary Gensler. Let's see. Let's click on this. Where are we on the fire Gary Gensler? All right. All right. 123 ,000 views on this one. We'll go ahead and give it a like there. Let's get this thing trending, folks. Overall, Davidson's ongoing efforts to remove Gensler showcase the ongoing struggle between regulatory control and creating a friendly environment for crypto. This situation underscores the need for fair and unbiased regulations that incur innovation and protect investors' interests. Now, unbiased, didn't he say Algo's like the greatest crypto asset ever, AJ? Gary Gensler, I do have that video saved on my phone. It's actually when I wake up every morning, that's like my alarm. It's his voice amplified saying how much he loves it. It's just a great way to start your morning. You want to start with a good energy. You didn't choose the Hillary Clinton like vibe when it comes to Algorand to wake you up? I have that one hanging around. Okay. What's the Clinton? Is it like her laughing? Is it her, you know, uh, No, that was the, that was the joke that it's just hanging around. I was just hanging around. Okay. Okay. But, um, no, uh, You're going to be hanging around. Keep making those jokes. You know, uh, yeah, but then, but then you would know it's real. Then you would know it's real. But on this really fast, I mean, David Warren Davidson was on Gensler back when they had that hearing and everyone just kind of reamed into Gary Gensler and Davidson said all the way back then that he was completely against. And this has been building for a while. If you listen to previous interviews with Warren Davidson and Gary Gensler, this is a beef. I'm sure there's some like internal stuff going on here because it's been building for so long, but I am just really grateful to see so many politicians openly just against like, there's no way the guy still has that job in a year or two. Like, no way. Like he has too many enemies in, in, in the Capitol. No way. Yeah. Uh, there will be the situation as we get closer to the election, there's going to be less of a focus on him. So the Davidsons, the representative Davidsons, you know, they only have so many arrows that they can fire right now. It's easy to fire it at Gary Gensler. There might be a point where it's like, all right, we're all team election. Our team talk about this. Let's not get off message. And then he might hide behind the wall like a rat. So we've got to make sure, you know, if that does happen and you know, some of these politicians get a little distracted with, you know, just the upcoming election and just making sure it's fair and every vote is counted accurately. Yeah. Maybe that's, that's when he started doing some of his more secret actions out there. All right. Let's see. Uh, all right. Go A .J. Go Deezy. Thank you. Taylor Warren. Is that Tim? Is that your old account? Hey. Shout out to Taylor. Hey, uh, you know what? Go Tim. Go Tim as well. All right.

But until such a time when a Republican sits in the Oval Office, John Stark said it's unlikely the regulator to become any more friendly towards crypto, predicting that they'll reject the current swath of Bitcoin ETFs for a range of compelling reasons, AKA reasons that they pulled out of the you know what. All right, Senator Lummis is backing Coinbase against the SEC. Just more arrows going against Gary Gensler here. She's a prominent advocate for cryptocurrency. She filed an amicus brief on the 11th to support the Coinbase exchange against the SEC's lawsuit there. She maintained that the responsibility for regulations lies with Congress, not the SEC. Here's her quote, I believe. Now this might be a Coinbase's quote. The transaction over Coinbase's platform and Prime are not and do not involve contractual undertakings to deliver for future value, reflecting the income profits or assets of a business. They're commodity sales, with the obligations of both sides to charge entirely the moment the token is delivered in exchange for payment, AKA talking about the Orange Grove case where the SEC says everything's a commodity depending on are you working towards its profit? Hey, then it's not a commodity, it's now a security. I think they're pretty clear. But yeah, now we have a lawyer, I mean, I'm sorry, we have a senator coming in filing an amicus brief on behalf of Coinbase against a governmental agency. I would say, call me crazy, I would say that's pretty bullish, pretty bullish for the court case there. So I'm rooting for Coinbase. So I think we're all rooting for Coinbase. All those coins, they got beat down pretty hard. I have a big bag of a lot of those coins. I think there's a little opportunity there. If you think Coinbase is gonna win against the SEC, I do, but you know, I'm not a lawyer. I mean, they have the backing of Larry Fink and BlackRock. So it's hard to bet against Coinbase. Yeah, do you wanna bet against BlackRock? Yeah. I probably don't. One more thing on the SEC here. Law expert says the brief filed by six law scholars absolutely shreds the SEC's theory, you know, where they go over what is an investment contract and whether it requires contractual undertaking, contradicting the SEC. Here we have someone with the same length of neck as Deasy there. So he said the amicus brief filed by the law scholars is devastating for the SEC. Murphy noted that the amicus brief absolutely shreds their investment contract theory. So this was followed by law professors and scholars who were experts in security laws and related fields and probably have a big bag of Bitcoin. They include UCLA, Boston University, Fordham Law University, University of Chicago and Yale Law School professors. They noted that after the Howey decision, there's a common thread in how investment contracts were defined. The thread was that investor must be promised by virtue of his or her investment and ongoing contractual interest in the income, profits or assets of the enterprise. When you have a token, you do not have those things. So good, good news for the SEC. No, sorry, for Coinbase. We're rooting, rooting for Brian Armstrong, rooting for the bald brother, the bald deployer there. I'm rooting, I think I feel pretty good about it though. How about you? Yeah, I understand that. I was a little worried before the tight relationship with BlackRock, I'm gonna be honest, but I just don't see Larry Fing and BlackRock being defeated here. I have a question for you. There's some coins, there's ADA was on there, Filecoin, Polygon, I think about 48 coins listed in the SEC versus Coinbase lawsuit. Coinbase wins, what happens to those 48 currencies? Well, it's gonna be interesting to see does the SEC try to go after everyone individually the way they went after Ripple and XRP? I don't think they can and Gary's even kind of alluded to, they're gonna pause new lawsuits with crypto, they're gonna go after AI. So I don't think it's gonna happen, but at the same time, I don't think there's a winning strategy for any of those things, especially with the XRP decision. Then if they lose to Coinbase and Ripple, what's the precedence to go after any coin individually that it'll be obliterated? Yeah, Sand is one of the tokens, I see someone talking about Sand as well. We're not gonna get 100 % pump is my opinion here. So when we had the XRP news with the SEC, all the crypto attention was on one coin. Now when we have a Coinbase win over SEC, I'm saying win, all the attention will be on 48 coins. And so I don't think all the dollars are gonna flow into those, not everyone's picking one coin and not everyone's gonna invest in all 48 coins. So maybe 20 % pumps, I'm gonna throw out a number here. The best time to get a great deal on a Jeep SUV is now during the summer of Jeep event. Park outside: Stellantis recalls nearly 220,000 Jeep Cherokee SUVs worldwide due to fire risk

"If you own a Jeep Cherokee, you may want to hear this. Some Jeep cherokees could catch fire even when the engine is off. These are certain cherokees from the 2014 through 2016 model years. The power liftgate can catch fire. The problem is, water can get into the lift gate control computer causing an electrical short that can touch off a fire. Stellantis is telling owners of these cheap cherokees to park them outdoors and away from other vehicles. The company is recalling them, but there is no fix yet. Owners will get notification letters starting June 30th. The company says it's not aware of any injuries. I'm Rita foley

"Salaried employees in the United States, Stellantis shares up today by about one tenth of 1%. So again, recapping the Dow, the S&P NASDAQ NASDAQ 100 index Russell 2000 all rally, S&P up 93 up two and a half percent. I'm Charlie palette that is a Bloomberg business class. All right, Charlie, good stuff. Thank you so much. Well, if you think consulting, you probably think of McKinsey and company. From that, nearly a hundred years old, more than 40,000 employees, affirmed with an alumni network of more than 34,000 working in just about every business sector out there a 120 countries, you know, alum household names Sheryl Sandberg, Chelsea Clinton, current CEOs of Citigroup, alphabet and Morgan Stanley. McKinsey the firm safe to say in many ways is, in its own right, a household name. Tim, it's also the subject of a new book. It's entitled when McKinsey comes to town, the hidden influence of the world's most powerful, consulting firm. The book co written by Walt bogdan, and Michael forsythe. We've got Walt thug Dan itch, who's an investigative reporter from The New York Times on the phone with us joining us from New York City. What really good to have you with us congratulations on this book is you and Michael write McKinsey has advised tobacco and vaping companies. I think Juul purveyors of opioids, repressive governments, oil companies, and more. The challenge, though, and reporting something like this is that McKinsey is a privately held company. And it's not a company that necessarily talks a lot to the press. Take us through your process here and really big picture what you found. Well, when we started, we knew it would be a challenge because McKenzie's entire business model is based on secrecy. Never disclose our client list, never dispose what they pay us. And they're hugely powerful. I mean, they have no accountability. And what we wanted to do was look at the secretive company, see what we could find. And find out whether they're doing good things or bad things. That's what journalists do. That's true, right? That's what they're supposed to do. Walt, you did get a hold of that McKinsey client list, which they do hold near and dear. So what did it as you went through it? What did it reveal to you? I think we were most interested in the conflicts of interest that emerged from that list. These are conflicts of interest that would never have been known. What kind of conflicts I'm talking about? Well, advising the biggest pharmaceutical companies in the world at the same time that they're advising the Food and Drug Administration. That would seem to be a major problem. They were advising all the big cigarette companies at a time when they were advising the office of smoking and health or office of smoking. Within the FDA. So those are glaring examples that we would not have learned about until if we had not obtained that list. Walt, is there any type of work that McKinsey won't take? These days, I think they'll say yes. But I mean, I won't know until I see the proof. I mean, what they did and to their credit and let's see whether they carry through on it. After a lot of the exposes that were in the media, mostly in the times, they decided to change. They decided to screen their clients more carefully. And to monitor them, to do a better risk assessment, how well that's working, how thoroughly they are engaged in that new policy. I hate to use the cliche time will tell, but we'll tell. Well, Walt, one thing, you know, you have three Pulitzer prizes for your investigative journalism. You produce stories for 60 minutes, ABC News, The Wall Street Journal, both here in New York City, also out of the nation's capital. Why is it that you've written about a lot of stuff? And there's been a lot of things that have gone wrong. Since the financial crisis before the financial crisis, why did you want to hone in on McKinsey in particular? Well, I guess there's two answers. One of them is that it is big and powerful and secretive. And influences our lives in ways that most people don't know. That's one of them. But in fact, that's probably the biggest one. And that's catnip for investigative reporters. Sure, there's a lot of things to look at. But that's one of the biggest. Also, inequality is one of the huge issues in our society today. It's tearing apart the country. I began gathering evidence indicating that McKinsey played a role in aggravating and accelerating that the trend. And I thought that was important to report and we did. It's interesting. You know, it's still attracts people who perform at the top of their class when it comes to business school. You know, when I went to business school, the place that people wanted to work was McKinsey, is there any indication, and that wasn't that long ago? Is there any indication we just have a minute left, and then we'll come back with you. That that has shifted at all because people really want to work for this firm. Well, they want the best and the brightest and they pretty much limited themselves to what they considered the best schools, the ivy leagues, but it's interesting. Recently, I got word that they're now recruiting at cuny law. And that's cuny is a great law school, but it doesn't typically serve the kinds of clients that McKinsey wants. So I think that may indicate that there's changes afoot. All right, we're going to come back with Danny. He, along with Michael forsythe two authors, they've written a book. It's all about McKinsey. It's entitled when McKinsey comes to town the hidden influence of the world's most powerful consulting firm, as we've mentioned

Yes, indeed, Caroline, so firms in the U.S. and Europe worth more than $9.4 trillion are reporting today so happening soon on Bloomberg will be speaking to Jose Antonio Garcia canterra. He's the Santander CFO. We're still waiting for those results. The CEO of the drinks giant diageo will also be on TV at 7 15. Now this might give us a clue on how inflation may have affected our booze buying then at 10 a.m. UK time we will have the latest confidence surveys for the Euro area then at 1 p.m. will have the German CPI reading that will be for July quickly followed at one 30 p.m. by some data from the U.S. including initial jobless claims and GDP figures out of their two and then later earning season. It just continues, doesn't it this week with Apple Amazon Intel and Pfizer some of the big name stateside which are G to report and also just a little thing here in the UK history is going to be made this morning with the first televised sentencing at a criminal court in England and Wales that came in two years ago, but was delayed by the pandemic. So big changes there for us. Okay, Leon, thank you very much. And speaking of Santander that you mentioned, let's bring in the results now that we're just getting on the blue big terminal office and turned out a second quarter net income at €2.35 billion is a beat on the estimate for 2.25 billion. They say that they are on track to meet their 2022 target. So that on Santander. Okay, looking towards development out of the U.S. later, Apple and Amazon are reporting earnings today the iPhone maker expected to see sales growth trimmed due to a strong U.S. dollar and supply disruptions. That's according to Bloomberg intelligence, this coming after matter platforms home to Facebook and Instagram and WhatsApp reported. Its first ever quarterly sales decline which it blamed on shrinking advertisers budgets joining us now as Bloomberg intelligences at Matthew blocks and good morning to you, Mark Apple, first of all, let's start there at key global gauge, what should we be expecting? A little bit similar to a metal in that this is going to be a much slower quarter and actually really the only division that's going to grow very significant is their services business, which is still relatively small. But growing quite quickly, so I think we saw, I think it was heard in the week that for the first time, anybody can remember apple or put some discounts on its top end planes in China, that was a kind of a one off issue, but I think it raises some eyebrows that are perhaps consumers are less willing to part with their money on expensive consumer goods right now. So yeah, I think a slower quarter cloudy outlook, but probably largely expected, I think, by the market. Okay, and what is the expectation for Amazon then? You were with us in the studio yesterday. You were mentioning the delay to the prime day. It was a bit later in the calendar that that could affect the second quarter revenue. Yeah, so obviously the walnut Walmart profit warning out in the week definitely spook people that actually some of these consumer spending issues are hitting quicker. And I think we'll see something of that in the Amazon numbers, I think, but mainly because of this timing issue around Amazon Prime day, I think certainly people I've spoken to anecdotally and actually my colleagues in the U.S. ran a survey of people's prime spending activity. And I think it shows that spending on Anderson is pretty robust still perhaps more of a time each year for now, but inevitably they're going to get caught up in this overall global slowdown and spending. And they did bulk up on warehouses and staff through the pandemic so they've got that issue to work through the numbers. So I think profitability for them could be an issue, but obviously they've got this big cloud business to which I think will help to compensate for any weakness there and they're also getting into the advertising space in a big way so that there are some good positive offsets for them in the overall mix. Okay, so planters look out for in those two big results direct later. What then about matter? The social media giant, Amazon revenue forecast, a disappointment from them. Yeah, first time I think as a public company that they've seen year on year revenue for a quarter go down. Wasn't much about half a percent, but down on the last year when your company that's used to growing double digit every quarter, that's a pretty big reversal. Their flagging is slowed down in advertising spend by big brands. I think it's a bit more nuanced than that. I think clearly on the margin, big brands are starting to trim budgets, but we've not really seen the big cuts yet

"You talked about Fiat and how Stellantis could use the Fiat as that position as an all electric vehicle. Fiat did this thing where they did it's just like Toyota did with the Supra, right? Where they partnered with BMW. Fiat's got a sporty roadster, but it's like, it's like a Mazda. Fiat, like traditional Fiat. Not the spider and what we're used to. Go make your own. And that's exactly my point is go develop your own platform, the guy running Stellantis needs to give Fiat the permission to be different. Go do their own thing. Now I know there's in theory like Porsche has more money to do this kind of R&D stuff than Fiat would, right? I get it, I get it. But I still feel like there has to be some uniqueness to the brand. Otherwise it's like, we're just slapping a badge on another Stellantis product. And I think it's very easy for me to look at this Jay and go, okay, yes, Audi's doing something similar. Yes, they're sharing a platform, but they are distinctly different. They are. Absolutely. It's very different than the 7 18. Yes, it is. It's not the same person is potentially a different person that would be drawn to buying a Boxster versus like an E Tron, right? Right. Absolutely. And I just feel like this is the right way to handle your and look, man, if they get 5 years down the road in this, and they go, well, the EV thing is fine and all, but we have a better way now and we're going hydrogen. Okay. Well, people are just going to look back and go, oh, well, that was the 5 years that they ran electric. If you happen to be a collector, right? Absolutely. It is it, man. Real quick to back on the note of when this is going to happen. The next gen makan 9 11 hybrid 7 18 box came in kaiman, whatever you want to call it, will help Portia reach its goal of decarbonization. They're saying 50% of annual sales to be represented by hybrids and pure electric vehicles by 2025. And 80% will be electric vehicles alone by 2030. Well, and they have some diesel versions of some of those automobiles that you just mentioned in the Porsche lineup that are really solid. You can go in one of those crossovers. You can go a long way. I mean, they are really great fuel economy and they're diesels. Right. I just did some research, by the way, on a diesel that is in the 20 20 and 21, they started in 2020, was like the escalade. Yeah. This Silverado 1500 this Sierra 1500 and a couple other models. "The program everybody This hour off programming of course European equity markets starting at their trading day and so let's get to it later check The stock 600 up by one tenth of a percent it could go higher though because some of these markets because some of these markets in Europe are not yet open The FTSE 100 we would expect that to underwhelm a little bit today because we're expecting to see a bit of a rebound in some of the markets that sold off most in the last couple of days unlikely to make up for those days of weakness or certainly the Monday session which was weak yesterday was fairly flat all told for European stocks but we do expect to see a flat to positive start to trade here for Europe as a whole and perhaps the UK within that context might underwhelm a little And that seems to be what we're getting here So the stock 600 up by two tenths of 1% the FTSE 100 almost entirely flat The cat care runs up by three tenths of 1% We wait for the German market to open and we would expect it to open a little bit higher certainly that's what features were suggesting It seems that the fact that the sanctions produced by the United States in particular but also the U.S. and Europe perhaps they underwhelmed a little perhaps that was by design perhaps serve that is the correct approach perhaps not But in terms of the markets interpretation of that the Margaret market may be seeing that as meaning less risk of conflict less risk of inflation perhaps and so therefore seeing it as risk on So we are seeing markets move to the upside Risk assets move to the upside Still no opening price on the decks We'll try and get that for you As soon as we get it in terms of the sectors on the move this morning the best performing is autos and auto parts we've had numbers out from Stellantis and also from Aston Martin this morning retail is the worst performing sector and some of the other more defensive sectors also underperformed today So that's the sector breakdown U.S. futures also point higher NASDAQ futures up by 6 tenths of 1% E minis up by half a percent Perhaps we're back to some of those older themes of interest rate hikes and inflation fighting that seems to be what bond markets are responding to but maybe not sufficiently so to throw equities of course so equities rising we're seeing bonds selling off and yields are going higher yields in particular at the front end going higher as we continue or we revert to thinking about our previous preoccupation and that is interest rate hikes in the United States and whether they derail the U.S. economy Oil prices given the high levels of volatility we've seen in recent days substantial moves to the upside yesterday we went above $99 a barrel in yesterday's session while given all of that we're pretty flat today up a tenth of a percent and 96 95 is the Brent price We've also got the dollar flat and negative this morning down a tenth of a percent the Euro up and 8th of a percent at one 15 and the pound just checking cable for you one 36 on cable up two tenths of a percent So that's a look at where we are on the broader markets Let's dive into some of the stock specifics and Bloomberg Lisa fam joins us down the line to do just that Now let's start Lisa with the online brokerage that is flat de giro I don't talk about this one very often and I don't even know how to say it so you'll have to help me out there I'll also unsure about how to pronounce it and we said German company and you're right we don't normally talk about this company but at the moment getting a lot of traction the shares up 12 percent People familiar with the matter told Bloomberg that the German company is attracting preliminary interest from private equity firms Now a spokesperson for the company which I believe is pronounced by jiro So the company is open to considering any formal takeover offers but to climb to comment further Jeffree's analysts noted that the stock's valuation has been quite depressed in recent months as well as the increased interest from the private equity space in the retail brokerage space So the shares have had a rough start to the year They were down 23% before Bloomberg story but they are getting a lot of traction today Okay and then let's talk about coffee We also don't do that very often So it is a nice time to do just that We've had numbers out of JD EP which is actually Dutch listed I believe What's the story from this coffee company Yeah so JD appeared stay reported revenue for the year of 7 billion And that was above analyst expectations The company is also forecasting double digit organic sales growth for 2022 Now the company did also mention that they expected business environment this year to remain volatile because of input cost inflation and some effects of the pandemic might also persist Some analysts actually don't mind this idea of higher costs because they think that the high cost will lead to high sales and high cash flow generation I mean I think you get coffee is such a staple for so many people in the mornings that the price increase is something that a lot of people will just go ahead with The shares has fallen about 17% since going public in May 2020 before today's news but they are quite positive at the moment They're up 5.2% Okay yeah interesting to think about the price elasticity of demand when it comes to coffee How much would they have to charge to stop to stop people going for that for that cup Let us talk about something that is we talk about a lot more frequently and some interesting news flow surrounding it today and that is Barclays It's not just the retail bank though it's the investment banking side of things and returning cash to shareholders What's the latest here Yes so back we shares are currently up 2.9% They're the biggest lead on the FTSE 100 at the moment by index point And so the group reported profit before tax in the fourth quarter jumping to 1.47 billion pounds And that was more than double last year and above expectations This is due to the bank and doing more charges for potential bad loans that it took in the early stages of the pandemic And this is also meant that annual pretext profit reached 8.4 billion pounds which is the highest on records The shares have been quite mixed this year And say where is 27% last year And so today's news has been quite positive for the stock Lisa thank you very much Lisa fam with the details on the individual stocks that we're watching That's some individual stock news Let's get the broader picture this morning today's top stories here's Bloomberg's Leanne Aaron's good morning And a good morning to you U.S..

"Stocks are climbing as data signal the strengthening recovery while dip buyers are stepping in following a sell off spurred by a hawkish Federal Reserve The S&P 500 is advancing after reports show the U.S. economy expanded more than four cash in the fourth quarter While jobless claims fail last week and we check the markets every 15 minutes throughout the trading day on Bloomberg the S&P is up 1.6% up 67 points at 44 17 the Dow Jones Industrial Average up one and a half percent or 524 points at 34,695 and then asked to accept 1.4% or a 194 points at 13,736 Ten year treasury up 1730 seconds He had 1.80% that yield on the two year 1.16% Nymex crude oil is up 1% or 88 cents at $88 24 cents a barrel Down 1.2% down 21.9 cents at 1810 an ounce the Euro 1.1160 against the dollar British pound at 1.3404 again is at one 15.33 Bitcoin is at $37,000 And Apple were watching those shares up 2.4% This ahead of its earnings report do after the market closed and that's a Bloomberg business flash Tom and Paul Karen thanks so much greatly appreciate that Paul I'm going to let you bring this game because he's a danger to society And he's talking about Tesla being an investment grade How do you do that Did they even make money I don't know All right Joe all right listen we have really good colors out of ten I know We have Bloomberg intelligence here at Bloomberg 350 animals around the world covering stocks bonds all that kind of stuff And they all listen to this guy They all listen to this guy He runs the credit side of it for Bloomberg intelligence Joel levington he's been on Wall Street for decades on credit research And it's interesting for Tesla Joel thanks for joining us here in our Bloomberg interactive broker studio You're saying that Tesla has credit metrics that are superior to Ford Stellantis and General Motors How do they do that They generate cash That's what they do Really They actually become a cash machine Okay That's how they generated 5 billion last year In 2021 I think between 22 and 23 that's over $12 billion Just to put it in perspective Ford and GM this year are going to combine generated about $2 billion of free cash versus the 5 that Tesla did So that's how you get it Okay So they reported numbers last night What are the highlights from you from I know the stocks off a little bit from a credit perspective because Tesla does folks Remember they have about $7 billion of total debt outstanding So how did the numbers look last night From a credit perspective they were terrific They reduced about $4.9 billion of debt in 2021 so the credit metrics keep getting stronger They said on their call that they can expect to continue to pay down that I think really what the market is getting a sense of is that they said the CyberTruck won't be out until 2023 instead of 22 And I think there's very logical reasons for that And I think most models and consensus didn't include CyberTruck but I think that is somewhat of a disappointment to use some folks I want to talk to you This has come up three times at least in the last couple of days A small startup company called Microsoft is 97% equity 3% debt and 2.8% long-term debt of 72 gazillion dollars When you walk in and talk to their CFO or critically to their leadership talk to the CFO does a CFO almost have an obligation to tell them their balance sheet is a mess and they should immediately have more debt Well the very talented rob shift covers them And he's talking to other CFOs But but I do think that you're seeing a change over time of lazy balance sheets getting utilized Where very high quality names it seems like the triple-b categories where everybody has moved down to from the single a category meaning that they are using their balance sheets whether it's for share purchases dividends acquisitions or some kind of combination thereof That seems to be where the world has settled in Am I right that pros like you think Microsoft could do They have 72 billion of folks long-term debt They could do a $30 billion issuance tomorrow and they could do it in 6 phone calls like one 800 Singapore 100 Oslo and one 800 fidelity Yeah I think they could Well that's amazing It is Well the credit market show I mean your credit markets are so strong here What is a company like Tesla who is free cash flow positive or is Tom's mentioning Microsoft with all the free cash flow They have why do they even bother going to the credit markets No that's a great question I think with the case of Tesla it's a different need from two years ago as it is today Two years ago they were struggling very hard Today they're swimming in cash But that might be something.

"Absolutely. They are still committed to rivian, the 100,000 units of the rivian product. My Ed McMahon scales so far so good. Okay. Now, today, as of this very moment, right now, how many electric production pickup trucks has stolen us made? Zero. How many is rivian made? Just more than zero? Yeah, more than zero. Yeah, more than zero. Yeah. More than ten? More than ten, yes. Okay. All right. It was probably ten used just to fly just to get Jeff Bezos to his rockets, right? Right. Absolutely. Absolutely. Yeah. So they already announced that we announced on this program, by the way, make sure you hit the subscribe button. You go back and find that video. Last week, that rivian is going forward with the production of Amazon's delivery vans, they already, of which they've already had some in production and testing and markets like Los Angeles. Correct? Already delivered already testing. Yes. Okay, so so far, we've established that rivian's already making vehicles for Amazon. Those have already been tested. That's right. Rivian's also making their own vehicles. Those are already being delivered. Correct. And Stellantis has yet to make anything that you can buy of the EV truck flavor. Correct. Well, it makes perfect sense to me then that people would change their opinion on rivian and drop the stock. Yeah, I get it, man. It's laughable to me. That is, and it's a reactionary process. If one starts bailing, then the rest start bailing on it. But I think that collectively everybody kind of started understanding the whole process and how this thing is working. Therefore, the stocks here this year are going back up in price and they're steadily climbing. It did drop significantly though, we're talking. I know it's a 103 a share. Amazon is doing it's their due diligence to understand that they have a huge commitment that they put out there, and they realize, hey, we're going to let rivian keep their commitment to us and you guys even have invested. This in itself is proof that Amazon is not bailing on rivian that rivian is going to make those 100,000 and probably more vehicles. So your stock should be okay. In my opinion, and why would they go to an automaker like a Stellantis for this? Well, because they're not really making EVs yet, so why not us help them boost their technology and they'll boost our technology. They are a high production manufacturer, unlike rivian, who is not a high production manufacturer. There are so many pieces to this puzzle..

"We're going, we're talking stocks now. Holy cow. Yeah, we are. We are going to talk stocks. Let's talk about some recent Amazon news with Stellantis that had a kind of a ripple effect on rivian. Absolutely ridiculous. This is a great example of why the stock market is so subjective. It is just public opinion beyond belief and there's good and bad with that. But in this case, it's just baseless, I think. Go ahead, Jay, what do you got? Well, apparently, you know, Amazon Stellantis have partnered up and Stellantis has committed to developing their ram, EV, their van, delivery van, specifically for that last mile or the last few mile type delivery situations, but all electric, for Amazon, and trade for the in cabin or in cab technology, cloud services and everything. So they've partnered up now. Stellantis and Amazon have partnered up. And they're also making as part of that deal. The Amazon is going to give Stellantis the in dash software and cloud services. Cloud services. Exactly. Stellantis is some of their automobiles, which is a good move because that helps them from a technological advance, they're going to have better infotainment systems. Amazon has a huge massively huge cloud service right now. Right. So my point in jumping in there was it's a two way street there. Atlantis is also getting something in return. You help me, I'll help you and Keith and I have said on numerous occasions that this is how this is going to happen. This is why Ford and Google it was Google that recently partnered with Ford, right? That's right. Same scenario. Same situation is like, okay, we're not going to focus on developing. In cab and technology because you guys know what you're doing. So why don't you do it for us, and we're going to focus on developing the vehicles. And what does that do? That's a win win situation for both sides because you're progressing that technology while you're meeting that goal of zero emissions, which is part of the climate pledge. They're committed to what they say 20, 35, I think, no more gasoline engines. And GM said same thing. You got a number of other ones that are saying the same thing. You can't do that overnight. You have to have partners in this to get there to help you develop certain aspects of the technology and now the stock drop like crazy for rivian when this news. And this is 11%. 11%. It dropped 11%. And continued to steadily fall until recently it started coming back up and let me ask you a question 85 bucks a year. My point about stock people's perception. Yeah. All right, so let me just make sure I understand this. I'm going to recap it to you, okay? Correct me where I'm wrong here. Okay, stellan is announces partnership with Amazon or Amazon announces a partnership slanted. One of them announces it. Right. And as part of that deal, as you previously said, we were all paying attention. Stellantis, ram is going to make some vehicles for Amazon and Amazon said we're not going to just use one manufacturer. It's always been that way, correct? Am I doing well so far?.

"Support it or keep it in. I forget the exact wording but they're not going to discontinue it as my is my impression is going to stick around And then there's the one with a nice screen and like you pick your price point or you pick a screen size or which one you want. It's just like there's the nice one at it's called. Nintendo switch led model. Word model is what offends me about this whole situation right. Just call it untitled switch. Oh lead whatever intendo only ever pronounces. Oled model they. Don't ever say ola. So you thought we won the that we didn't because he's still have to spell it out now you'll go and you'll you'll by the one that fits your budget or you know if you're willing to splurge on the the one it's like you buy an iphone and you pick your storage option right ni- switch and you pick your screen. Isn't there controversy. Joy con drift with swishes fixing that. Who knows they won't. They won't say they won't comment. You know trying to get nintendo to say drifts is very difficult unless you're talking about mario kart amazing. When is this thing come out. It's early october. Same day as the new metro dade which metro dread which yes metro-dade. Good happy excited. I love me some sites metro-dade it's it's we're overdue. I can't wait Yes please also bring back metric prime. I know it's not part of the main storyline but I miss it and you should be able to figure out a way to do that with joy cons pretty easily so please be released that also There's the new zelda. Which is the old zelda skyward sword coming soon going to try that out but i think i'm going to be disappointed. But that's okay because the sequel breath of the wild is still out there in the world and i will watch celtic videos looking at zillow lower trying to parse what's going to happen in that game all day long. I recommend you do as well. Is this holiday silks. Oncoming like is that that's exist. I want silk song so bad. I don't know i haven't been keeping up on that. I managed to finally defeat their creepy vampire boss expansion and felt so relieved that i finally did it that i had to set a done and walk away from it for months. I played out holla night so much. All right at get one. Now i have. I have a switch..

"Yeah here's my theory about the new lead switch okay. It's the new intendo switch. Oh led model in parentheses. That's my theory. Fact that they were just like oh led model in parentheses means that all of my display whining over the past. Ten years in the show has been completely validated. And that all people care about is contrast ratios. I was right. Okay yeah no. I buy it so i mean my theory as they called it and model so that everyone was crystal clear no pun intended. That there's nothing else knew about this. The processor is the same. The power is the same. There are a couple of things that are worth noting. One is the kick stand is no longer a cheap plastic piece of crap that falls off what you blow a light breeze at it. I gotta hate the extent of the original switch. It's a good kick stat in the style of a surface kick. Stan where can like go at any angle and it has sixty four gigs of internal storage instead of a measly thirty two. So you can maybe more than two games on it Which seems good other minor stuff. They added away. Where ethan at port into the dock and the speakers are a little bit louder but the main news is at the screen is now a full seven point o. Inches and it is lead instead of lcd. But it's the same resolution. It is still seven twenty. That's correct and it's still does ten eighty when you plug it into a tv. It won't go to four k. The seven inch seven. Twenty p ten tunnel screen is going to be like. Maybe i was wrong. I don't know that it's tile it might be rgb. I'm still waiting for confirmation on this. I took a loop to it. Know those little magnify things you put on negatives or whatever and it looks like to me but i don't have the i for screens that you do if you if you don't know penthouse screen is it's a way of arranging. A sub pixels led screen. That isn't straight one color per pixel rgb per pixel and some people see this and it causes their is to bleed and they become unreasonable rage. Monsters who could talk about nothing else. That's neil patel then there's other people like me it's like i guess it looks fine. I don't know it seems good And that's me so it was a lot worse when the pixel densities were low like the iphone has an led penn tile screen looks great because it pinks pixel and see so the whole hack. Is that your eye perceives. Green more than other colors See if you put more green and making it more brightness panel early they just looked horrible. Now high picks. Don't say look great. I'm just saying seven. Twenty p at a larger screen. You're not going to get more pixel density you. You're getting less pixel density. And i played mario kart and i played breath of the wild. Both games are very good at looking nice on seven. Twenty p right. The way that they're visually designed like if it's not it's fine at that pixel density. I think at seven twenty p and so they looked good to me and the screen looks way brighter and crisper to me like tour vibrance and if you look at like the grass or whatever like you could see the pixels you can see the like if you look like really thin lettering. You can start to see the jagged a little bit you know like. It's not anti alias. As well as maybe should be. But here's the bottom line. It's bigger and brighter and therefore nicer the end fair and kick standards better and the stand is way better. Yeah i would not upgrade. I'm gonna upgrade. Because i switched over to switch light and that was a huge mistake and i regretted every day my life. I want go back to the bigger screen. But if you've got a regular switch especially one of the like slightly newer switches that have the better battery life. I think this is a very difficult upgrade to justify because the joy cons of the same the processors the same there's a little more interest storage but whatever build quality is basically the same. It seems like it's a little bit better. Built the kick stand helps. There's a a glossy puzzle around the screen instead of a matte. Finish puzzle around the screen. Whatever but at this point like getting into such tiny little details like the power button is oblong instead of round and it's resist in a different way like okay. Is it nicer. I would say like the big knock me on. The original switch is like it's pretty in in in wild like a masterpiece. The hardware is kinda cheap but just all the way. It's like kinda cheap. I'll say it feels like fifteen percent nicer than the original switch. Probably original switch. Along until i compare it but which is also beat up from us. I have no idea what the single be like when it's beat up from us but you know brand new onto the box. It's a nice gadget. Does it say smaller vessels like like i would say the originals which is kind of plastic. Like yeah. I would say the plastic again. It's like it to me. Seem like fifteen percent nicer. Plastic like the matt finish is a little bit more mad than the original one but also using the original one for years and so maybe just got worn down. Yeah that there's like a lot of rumors that it would be a switch pro that we'd be new chip. Do you have any sense of wide. None of this came to pass. I mean there's the theory that the like the chip shortage has messed everything up right. But i don't know. I mean there's also just like people keep expecting nintendo to act like other companies other council makers they never do and they have not done it again. They like they just this is what nintendo does release tiny little changes to the consoles. That are going well for them and they might get some people to upgrade. But it's just like it's another skewed and put in the store. That's how they do it. I haven't used my switch for a little bit. But i don't know i feel like there are so many good games that don't require really intense hardware at this point and the switches really really good at playing them. Like i don't know this is also just speaking as someone who has other consoles. I don't need like i pretty much. Play the switch exclusively as a hand held. And i don't need to like play aaa console games but i kinda like. I'm kind of happy with the switch. I have now like. I would be perfectly happy with being like a slightly iterative upgrade. So the idea of doing this upgrade is that people will upgrade or you'll get new people to buy switch right. I mean those. Are those your yeah. I think it's more the latter. I think it's people who haven't bought a switch yet. We'll go to the store. And they will be three options set of to the portable one the regular one nintendo specifically told me we're going to continue to support the regular one. It's going to stick around weight..
