"I'll have a Stella Artois. Give me a hard toast. Okay. Yeah. I'm bored already. Charles Taylor's, a professor of marketing at Villanova and is past president of the American Academy of advertising. So not a very exciting Super Bowl not very much excitement at the halftime show shows not much excitement in the ads. What happened? I do think there's we call it a pretty average year myself. But I do think there were some ads that that worked in some of it has to do with the check of the advertiser like that. Stella Ed, you guys just played. They're trying to get out a message for water dot org again, and they want to appeal to millennials in many cases with these corporate social responsibility messages, and in some ways, it's it's difficult to make some more exciting. So which ones did you like? You know, I started up the Amazon the Amazon with the, you know, the MRs beta testing, Alexa. With pretty funny and university life universally like I did think, you know, the the one Bud Light spot that that had the game of thrones in which was kinda surprising and works pretty well. And a couple of us. You're not. They're not like all time classics, but a couple of the ads using trade characters like like Eminem with Christina Applegate. And Mr. Pena with Charlie Sheen got attention for brands. It's not so easy to get attention. When you see TV spots in particular overseas. European Purdue I'm thinking in particular. You know, often, they're really clever and and in order to be clever. Sometimes you have to dip a little bit into the area of being politically incorrect, and double entendre and things like that. And I'm wondering if that's what's making it a little bit duller in this country. We have we gotten to the point where you can't really take any chances. And so if you're not a little bit risque they ended up being kind of a snooze. Yeah. I I've never seen it Super Bowl that was more risk averse than this one and done some research in wrote an article last week, you know, asking the question of sex in Super Bowl advertising. And it definitely seems like it seems like it is the one ad that had for weeks at a supermodel in it a little bit suggestively rest. Got absolutely slams. So unless something then the devour at if you look at the full version of that online. It's a it's a lot racier. But there's partly good. There's partly good reasons, why the advertisers won't take risk going into politics because they they do it. They do risk alienating a chunk of the market. You know, some of their own customers. The other thing this year warrants a lot of political messages. Unlike last year in maybe part of that is, you know, love people are just tired. That's the last thing. They want to talk about during the Super Bowl is politics. Yeah. I think you're exactly right. There was a good poll by this morning, console that show that more than two-thirds of people don't want politics in the Super Bowl, and it was even a majority, you know, of of younger consumers just kind of, you know, kind of a party atmosphere, and it's really a tricky area to go into for the advertiser. But it's politics at sex. I mean, do we do we have to at this point run all these ads through like a board of Puritans? Well,.

Even though a good number of people liked it that people see things through different lenses. We of just saw that with the line. Gillette? "So explain that some of that for you. She says she's doing it. Yeah. For you. It was the whole idea is we're doing everything for Alexa, making our food that way. Brushing our teeth and playing our podcast, and that's why it starts to drown out. And then Harrison Ford is telling the dog to stop it. He has a little English bulldog. That's running around that has that Cotler and keeps barking and keeps ordering food. And when he says, stop it. I'm not getting any more food than there's gravy, and then they're sausage and all that stuff. And it's very very funny. I thought, but I thought it was clever for the time they had they did a pretty good job of it. I don't know that it's going to rank as one of the best of the whole thing the hot tub thing was funny, turn on the music, and then it became fountains like there were two female comedians. That are pretty hot right now. On the circuit. And it looks like the Balaj fountains and then pushes them out of that hot tub. Now, there was one I really liked and I think this probably trip the meters a little bit. It was Stella Artois, and it is a beer. It's actually it's a beer. I like I'm not advertising for them. But I happen to like it. And there was a character in sex in the city named Carrie Bradshaw. And I think you'll recognize perhaps the her voice, I think you'll recognize her voice. And then there's one of my favorite characters wall time. I'll just say the dude from the big lebowski and those two actors are in this spot. Take a listen..

"I'll have a Stella Artois. Why Russian gimme a still does. Excuse me. Choice changing could do a little good. Frank L did call it our toast. I would've or did he pronounce it correctly? And what do you figure? The message will be on this one. And how popular will it be? Well, I'm not gonna try my French. You're my word if I I really like this one, I think this is top ten I I think you're gonna like it. Carrie, Bradshaw's, a great character. He's really fine. And there's a simple message here. You know when you walk into the bar. They say what what do you want to drink and you got one hundred beers. You can choose from. And they're just trying to get you to say, Stella Artois and editor very good beer. So I think this is going to be a winner tonight. The wanna get these ads to reach younger generations, you know, who have become fans of lebowski in the TV show sex in the city through online streaming it. I think that's going to be very successful the goal that they want to achieve pool in those young themes, right? And what's the demographic, by the way, either Frank Kelly? Do you know, you're you're the former head of Arnold worldwide. And you have your CEO you branding company. What are the the numbers in terms of the ages who tune in to the one hundred plus million viewers of the Super Bowl? Well, you know, the way I would answer that is this is the one show a year Warren where the the audiences everybody because it's one hundred million people will be tuning in tonight. And that all year they sitting in front of the TV, but they're actually watching the commercials, and it's it's almost fifty fifty male female. So it's it's unlike any other TV program of a year, and that's why it's five point two million dollars per spot. All right you too. I thought this was very appropriate in this day and age where all of us will not me, I refuse to have one of those talking speakers one of those those Alexa. I there's no way I'm going to be talking to an inanimate object. But obviously, they are very popular young. And you talk about young demographic. They're all using this. Anyway, here you have a couple of guys sitting at a table and they're looking at the table, and there are dozens of Pringles cans of chips, right? And nearby is one of these talking speakers in there looking down at the table and wondering about the numbers right flavor stack combinations. Are there? Three hundred eighteen thousand Sunday. Tasting any for I have no hands to stack with to taste with.

"Listen in cosmopolitan. Tonight. I'll have a Stella Artois Russian, Gary gimme, a Stella toast, changing can do a little good. I love the fact he mispronounces that very, dude. A lot of people talking about the possibility of a big lebowski remade. Instead, it's just a beer, Ed. Right. Right. Well, I mean, anybody will take a little taste of the dude whenever they can get himself. In terms of the Super Bowl ads that don't hit. I mean, you're already paying so many dollars for the ad time itself as you said it's about wanting to get noticed. It's about water cooler to me some of the ads of the last several years have been somewhat underwhelming. But whether it's one ad that's underwhelming or all of them. That are underwhelming. Why would anybody swing and miss on such a huge stage? Yeah, it's really a question that I always boggles my mind as a as somebody in the profession it's especially brands that really take a super conservative approach. Don't swing for the fences and do something. That's the worst thing. You can do something forget about, you know. So even if it's something ridiculous. You know, like a Bud Light or Doritos? Typically, do I still think it's worth getting that attention and getting that talk because your brand is being talked about. But the forgettable ones. I mean, that's that's the worst thing in this industry relied with belter Lincoln, creative director, girth Kramer, and WTMJ Super Bowl commercials. Previews? Yeah. I would imagine the worst thing that could happen for an advertiser is for someone to come back from the bathroom during a commercial break and seeing to the rest of the folks at the party. What did I miss and everybody's the party says nothing? Yeah. Yeah. If I can tell you firsthand, you know, my wife watches it exclusively for the commercials, and so people are paying attention. And if an Addis forgettable you just wasted over five million dollars. And I know you also send us over or I saw a clip this morning of Sarah, Michelle Gellar, and it's kind of a horror take on makeup. Yeah. Well, this is this is their first Super Bowl ad, and you know, they're kind of positioning it as this sort of women's empowerment thing. Just being in the space typically dominated by males. I don't know how much that is just a PR move. But the south is is kind of fun. It's kinda plays off of Sarah, Michelle Gellar roles in these sort of horror movies. You know scream, I know what you did last summer bucket the vampire slayer. And the the the hashtag is killer skin. So I I think you get the kind of tie. They're to allay seems like they're finally getting hip to the fact that about half the people watching the Super Bowl are women in as well advertised Louis. Yeah. Belter waken creative director Garth Kramer. Joining us live. We'll do it again, Monday morning. And we'll go over what we saw and share the experience together girth. Can't wait.
