"Stores of value. Decentralized compute and i think as many people are observing in this past weekend here in miami has showed you know there's a certain degree of inevitability around this if only because people are looking for ways in which they can preserve that which they've earned themselves and then even Getting away from specifically bitcoin but other cryptocurrencies like god and earn and demonstrated and build value when you think about that asset And let's say that it's gonna coexist with a bunch of other assets. Is there a big national security component to this of embracing it or not embracing it. Is there an economic. Is there some sort of like societal. Implication that really Kind of interests you or do you think it's just the complexity of all these different disciplines. Naturally where your interest lies. Mike thesis is a lot around the decentralisation of so much of our society that as i think about that thesis. Bitcoin cryptocurrencies distributed They just really fit into that world view of where i think. Technology is going over the next fifteen and twenty years and You know whatever personal Value judgments. I may have on on that trend. Really it doesn't matter. I do think that this is just happening. inevitable i mean you. We saw country Literally say yeah. El salvador say that they were going to. I think consider the there's a law that they're gonna try and pass but You know. I think more that's going to start happening. Especially as you know. We've seen a lot of Central banks deal with the past few years with monetary policies. That like average folks may not have really understood but maybe if they knew and some do maybe they don't agree with it and they're going to vote with their pocketbooks. I forget what the quotas. But i think it might be henry. Ford says you know if people understood how money works it'd be riots in the street before morning right like his pretty Not a new phenomenon right..

"And then i'm sure there are other examples that i don't have but obviously crypto is really easy for these folks to ask for and then because the cryptos sent in a public ledger is a pretty easy to track down where it goes from there. Is there a way to basically use that. Like catch who these people are do. They usually not get caught of. What's the need like the law enforcement angle of this. I mean that's a really interesting part. Which is that you know the Many of these currencies. Bitcoin especially the chain is people can see who owns what coins. And so yeah. In many cases they are asking for bitcoin. And while i can't get into how law enforcement of the intelligence community goes after Folks that are doing these types of illegal activities and they are illegal Yeah i mean that is one thing that is somewhat good. It's not a sort of bearer bond or something where you can just sort of walk away with it. In a few years later use it or redeem it dot it These industrial control systems. I think most people would think of own the meat processing plant or a water facility for a water company but they also are like the electrical grid of major city. Right like the. It seems like that's a pretty similar type of thing. And if all of a sudden you can take over the electrical grid shutdown electrcity in a city like maybe mass chaos happened immediately. But you only got a couple of hours if not a day or two in your mass chaos. That's a big issue and there are a lot of. There's a lot of attention that's being paid to it so The new administration has done some great things on this topic. They've got some new orders out some new instructions. We did a lot of work on this As well trying to shore up and secure those systems it's something that a lot of people are paying attention to not only in the government but then you got great companies outside of the government that are building amazing technologies to try and prevent these types of attacks from happening or find them in very quickly. Remediate them once they have. Is he less grid like the most important is it nuclear reactor energy plants and in some of this. You may not be able to talk about what types of things or like the really big things that everyone knows. That's in this world like hey we gotta protect you. Abc there's a. There's a lot of important stuff out there and a lot of it's connected to the internet..

"L. o. Welcomed podcast Everything you've ever needed to know about movies music and theater and I just wanted to hop on for just a quick minute and acknowledged in patriot to a brilliant brilliant songwriter. And man that Has been spoken about on this podcast before mr jim steinman Gave it up to god and it was announced today and this man Jim steinman. I was ten or eleven. I heard bat outta hell. And jim stevens songs and they not only impacted me but they basically gave me something to reach for and although never reach the height that jim steinman did yum. You really did give me something amazing to want to try to get to As a songwriter. And he was kind of a beatles. Billy joel and it was him and he was a big influence on on wanting to be a songwriter and Writes music or not but the fact that he wrote music for rock but he also wrote through to music getting also musicals dance of the vampires often and span He wrote amis khobar garbo. Greta garbo he wrote in odense density impact. Which is not great but the music is amazing And even bat outta hell. The album itself was initially his krant. Opus it began as the dream engine and turned into neverland and then in In london it opened as bet on album musical which is not a jukebox musical. It's actually a forty year. Forty year Odyssey by that man to want to write this particular musical and it's Absolutely amazing but he inspired me to write songs and right right very kind of not to not be afraid to be brave and to do weird things and crazy things and embrace the idea of full rock and roll and this is why. I've right kind of in that brown milan and right passionately and right emotionally and don't be afraid and put in a joke here there make it funny but also make it to make make a point to the whole thing And i'm sad that i got to meet him. I never got to correspond with them. There are ways that you could sponsor him or send him an email whatever. I just never did that. Because i always I always wanted to interest. Meet them in person and his impact on this world. I hope people know who he is and know what he meant to. People like myself He's the reason. I write songs even to this day My style is completely my style. But i think of him anytime. I sit down to write a song And it's just so sad. And i know i think it was unexpected on the having given the official word yet but it sounds like it was pretty unexpected. But i'm just so sad. And i really love to his family. His friends are with them. World state helping to care of him the whole community and everything else. I am a big impulse and pick inspiration to me. Had he will always be a big influence to me and here are some of his songs really selling over over the top and bombastic. Yeah but that's what makes him. Jim steinman and if you don't know about him check him out in the next couple of days and the music the song that's playing in the background right now. It's called kreider heaven. And it's a song he wrote for crybaby which was became a musical and the end of the pudding in into a thing was going to go into the batman years he was writing and i think it's in somewhere in the musical so all the songs are just. He writes from his soul. And i still wanna see that batman musical and maybe someone will take the reins and continue what he wanted to do. But the will never be another jim steinman they'll never be another mastro steinman But anyway i wanted to pay tribute to him now. I wanted to sail loud. What he meant me. Money's always spent me in with who continued to mini and now with a son. I will definitely want to Try to introduce him to choose swell anyway. Just a quick. It was a quick episode. Nothing too major coming up here But and i just wanted to pay tribute to jim steinman recipes. Mrs time you were the inspiration for me you really were..

"I i love this. And he did reuse. Use this for that Ten step empire. this was written for musical. This was written stage weather. He or not. I didn't even know that there was going to end up on a stage this written for an audience coming out so yeah in The end of dance of the empire's they'll come out and they sing this and it's basically like instead of today when it means to be young. It's you're going to see the vampires dance that's what The song ends up being in. I mean yeah you're right into driving song it's a driving thing it's you know I love it and the movie is. It's okay it's not great. It's not great movie but the ending that this takes place on with a singer on stages literally the end of the movie and our heroes leaving town. It's really amazing. The way they put it together. It's one of the best sequences in the movie. So i'm getting that. I'm getting a little bit of that van halen. Sammy hagar elegant i am. I actually did get some hints of a total eclipse of the heart as well but No it's it's amazing so That's list we got through everything a couple more songs on our list but like i said we only have ten that we could put on There's a handful of once. I wish we had time to talk about Is actually one off of the everley. "Okay. So if you don't know it's one twins called surf's up Was off of Album it was originally on jim simon's debut album is a solo album And the lyrics as you can imagine are rarely bow A guy one sex with a girl. Yep a lot of jim. Steinman stuff is literally like young people feeling youngest moment in wine to feel young this forever thing i mean he says like i'll never feel. I'll never be like this again. In and then he starts describing. How things are going this. The one thing. I will say also about steiner's i found that very formative era Right around those about to go into high school eighth grade into ninth grape and i began to realize how poetic lyrics in popular music could be. And that's when i started to kind of ever like what he does and my own. Songwriting in fact the first lyric ever wrote that. Got me into a creative writing. Group was a teacher walked. By after i finish a test and i was writing in my journal and i literally wrote the line. The night is running with a demon. I and full of fear and the guy was like you should be my creative writing class. And i'm like sure why not. I don't know anything about that so this is very formative. And this is one of my favorite songs and the fact that it says. How hard do i have to try. Surf's up and so again. It's jim steinman being jim. Steinman chris. Have you heard that some the flight. Now i have this is actually. It's not as popular karaoke bars. But i've definitely heard it I've heard some well intentioned men attempts after a few beers It's really tough to sing. I it's a. It's a meatloaf like high third. See much of it. Much of it is So i would say zero percent success on the ones that i've heard In my travels at the as i frequent karaoke bars. I'm now it's a. It's a great song not on my top ten just because i mean jim. Simon got a huge cadillac to choose from so.

"The amazing thing about this one is that when it gets the end which is twenty minutes away from now It turns into a kind of lull abide. Because the whole thing sounds like it's a music walks playing and again. This is where chris saying how. It's feels transsiberian. There's a little bit of transport you can get the influence that transsiberian had from people. And from these jim steinman specifically som-. "Key there are couple situations besides Danced the vampires other music that he's done. These actually auditioned and done work for musicals that he just hasn't been hired for One big Example not that he wasn't hired but they were. They cancelled the musical. When things went awry was He was actually commissioned to write a batman. Musical i kid you not. This is a real thing. That was going to be a musical version of batman and he had grit hap- spiderman so it doesn't surprise me a whole lot. Well that's what that's what cancelled. It was the they. Were gonna play after mr mrs bruce. Get shot in the alley. It's possible that there is talk that the sun was going to go into the batman. Musical that flute does remind me of a song from another collaborator. And i had to double check. I was like wait a minute. He didn't compose. He did not compose near far wherever you are but that flute was like wait. It's not often you hear flute in a ballot where it becomes like the prevalent instrument in that song. I was like i had to double check. Sorry i had to double check the nice tender ballad. Not on my top ten. Not one that. I hear very often. I do know it just didn't crack up. It's a tough one. Because it's technically is off of bad idaho three but bat bat out of hell three was technically not him and jim steinman. It was him and Desmond child so It's not really an official back. A lot of people don't consider it a real bat outta hell album But the concern braver than you are. The new album just came out more in line at. That's the last chapter of the trilogy. So just just interesting stuff. Surprisingly enough there is one. Song are chris's number. Nine is actually my number nine so get out of two and it is an incorrect title. Because if you actually look at your car it does not say this. It's actually quite the opposite. But if that doesn't give you the preview of what we both picked for number nine. Yeah and this is another one of those like fourteen word song. titles that he likes to do do you want to introduce. just let play.

"Terrible musical was really bad. Yeah yeah. I heard on not great but it lasted longer than that one in the late seventies at charles nelson reilly directed and it closed on the same weekend. Yes you're right. you're absolutely right on sunday. And he was on johnny carson. Show say still in his sounds about right but yeah you're right And actually. Simon began in the theater. He was born in new york he went to amherst college. Actually did experimental theater a musical. Call the dream engine which would then evolve into netherland which has now evolved into bad health. So when you see help a musical anyone who thinks that's a jukebox musical. You can shut up. That musical has been in the works for forty years like that has been his. Life's work and i've heard great things about it. I've heard some not so great things about it but the man's been working on it for forty years give you get a break But he has another musicals. And he met and meatloaf is vegas collaborator through a musical on-call more than you deserve which was off broadway which A the song. That song is a song that he he wrote on more than you deserve which is actually on a meatloaf album. It's not analyst here. It's not that great but it's it began the career and then he eventually went on to do like we were talking about bad hell Which basically made his name in in the music business. That was such a big hit music the album. And then you just everything snowballed. He'd worked with different people. He created his own stuff and as much as his. He has a ton of songs they all. Chris was mentioning this before we started recording. They all sound the same. Don't they all seem like they're all all will they're all big ration- not in the same way that chicago uses a lot of the brass in their songs to make it sound like much fuller but it's much more like operatic in a sense. It's a there's a lot of crescendo. There's a lot of the lot of drums lot of electric guitars And often with the choruses. It's these giant greek courses that he he utilizes and their their their ballots. You're not gonna find like a two and a half minute. This is my fight song. You're not gonna find me baby He does these long. Oftentimes averaging between seven and nine minutes on its shortest longer ones. You'll find over double digits in fact one of the one of the songs that i have listened to my top. Ten is often referred to as a bathroom song because dj's will play it so that they can go use the restroom. It's it's funny. I say they they also say they don't all sound the same but they. You can definitely feel a jim steinman song when it comes on. The caveat to that statement is actually many of meatloaf's collaborations with jim steinman do have similar sounds Not just because meatloaf is the lead vocalist on on the songs but You'll you can definitely see it. it's He brings life and he. It's almost as if he is writing a musical when he a giant eleven. Pm musical number when he writes these songs. And it's just wonderful. It's wonderful to listen to some of them hate to say it overplayed Especially at karaoke bars View of which have landed on my top ten list but Yeah it's and the thing that you also. I don't know if you agree with me this chris. His songs his music his everything about what. Jim steinman writes this element of Humor to everything There really is And he's actually set at that. He writes his songs with a touch of Of humor in all of them. And i want to read this. This song didn't make the list but it did recently so the last album. That milovan jim steinman together all quote Was album called Braver than you are. Which is You either hate you like it. I love the album because of what it is. Because it's a jim steinman meatloaf one But so jim. Steinman has has described his music as heroic adventurous romantic scary. And funny. now you ask yourself how can lyrics be funny. I'm going to read you this lyric. I don't know if you've heard this chris. I'm going to read you this lyric in. It's absolutely bizarre. whereas Did you from a mighty oak to grow. You have to plan to tiny seed. Words are all you know. Body language is what you need now. I can barely breathe. Your fragrance fills my lungs. It's time we started speaking in tongues. It's time to start. The fire i know will make it. Good were overflowing with desire. You got the spark i got. Would i don't know what any of that is implying. Maybe it's my innocence. I'm not sure is he implying. Something there Is that is that innuendo is that what is called a new metaphor very innuendo but But chris and i have a great list of top ten songs. We're going to do a couple of on will mentions before. Kristen have any auto mentions. But i can only assume these. These ones are not in his list. So these are ones that were missed for whatever reason so the first one i wanna play here is Is this win. come in so hot. Ninety four as. I been doing the every. I really feel like. I'm a fm n. F. m. dj. From the familiar to you. And i are both sort of in that realm of could be great college. Dj's i'd be totally fine with that. "We'd switch today for 24 7 accessed a licensed agents. Not this part. We're live. And after I know why they always say that. I don't know. I don't know what that means. Don't either we're here. We're with you alive Rocky out today and I'll not have allowed with Rachel in four rocks. Kelly holosuite, and I was gonna say you're wearing your little share of self it there. Yes, I am. And But there's nobody here called Steinman's dressed like the dude from Big Lebowski, which I thought was cool. I thought it was some girl. When I first walked in, I was going to say Hey, how you doing? Like Hey, and I was he turns around goes like do it. It's you. Yeah. Okay, Nobody's here. But thing is Julie. You always go way over the top to try to win the costume contest. We'll I've gotten my cowboy hat and I've got my badge. My old school classic cowboy shirt on. It's a little more of a mild Version of Halloween for me, But if you look here, see, I've got my bandanna stuck to my back pocket bike Unseemly asleep, Cover my face mask with the bandanna and not ruin the aesthetic of the Halloween costume. That's why I went with this this year. That's brilliant, coin friendly. Thank you. Ah, I and let's do what we always do on Friday and talk to this fellow up Richard Skinner. And skinny, Are you? Ah, in any way, shape or form celebrating Halloween this weekend. I'm going to celebrate it by going into a bar tomorrow night and have a drink while I can't be passed out, So that's how I will celebrate it. Am not going back back back in the day when my kids were still we're still home. I was gonna ask if you still have kids that age. I do not. I have Ah, wanted just got married a couple weeks ago, and I got a senior in college, but I used to be the guy that would sit in the driveway with a couple of neighbors. We needed some wine wine with also a few beers and hand out candy is kind of a group. So I actually kind of actually enjoyed that part of it. But that was always a little fire pit going on out there drinking some beers. Oh, yeah. Nothing wrong with that another wrong with that. So skinny. Let's get right to what the Bengals So Carlos Dunlap leaving town Good or bad. And who is it best for because damn Lennon and Seattle's is not a place not a bad place to land. No, it's best for both. Obviously for him. You're right. He's got a soft landing place a chance Tio play for a winner, which probably will mean he'll play up to his potential or certainly played harder than he had played here. The last couple years of the Bangles. The Bangles because he simply wasn't very productive any longer. He didn't want to be here. Clearly, he didn't like the role he was given because they demoted him because he just wasn't playing hard. Um, And if they're trying to set this culture that they talk about setting, the last thing we need is a veteran on film showing the young guys I can still get paid and I could still play without playing their way. I can play my way so I have a column about it, and I think shame on Carlos could get a lot of great things in the community and for him to kind of go out the way he did challenge way. He did the last couple weeks. Really, really disappointing, But, yeah, I think it's a win win for both you and the bank was also saves on salary cap on top of it. Not just for this year, but next year. He's do about 11. No. Yeah, I don't know much. Yeah, they were going to have to put about 22 and a quarter million towards the salary cap because it is signing bonus that he that he had from three years ago. But, yeah, 11 mil comes off the books. So it's a win for the Bangles in that regard to skinny. This has kind of been this. This mentality has been an issue for the Bangles in the past. Now they're dealing of dealing with it in terms of Carlos, But you've seen it before. Why do you think the Bangles have this issue? And why can't they seem to get out of this rut? This mentality of well, you could just hang out and, you know, play okay and just exist here on our team. I think it's multi fold. Um, I think and I don't want to keep so much praise on Marvin Lewis. But I think that Marvin certainly had the year of Mike Brown. And when he wanted something done, personnel wise, not all the time, but usually Mike would listen to him. When I was younger coach doesn't have parties, much cachet. What I understand is coaching staff as early as the middle of last year, wanted Carlos gone. Mike thought it didn't want it didn't want to have it happen. Um, And when your loggerheads there's a coaching staff, right? You want him gone? You don't want a plane. You don't want him around your guys. But the older insisted he's there and you're having to try to make it work. It's really a difficult situation. But the same thing for Cordy Glenn last year, Cordy Glenn had a concussion. It was a real, but after multiple second opinions three or four weeks in, he was cleared by multiple doctors to come back to practice over there. It's a lot of people call it making a business decision that listen, I'm going. I'm going to find a way around. Getting paid without having to play and that's kind of where some of these guys around some of these veterans were at. And you know you're seeing it with John Ross now has been for the last three weeks. Every Thursday and Friday comes down with an illness. I think for him it I'm guessing he hopes to be traded by Monday. Go say, what are they going to treat him, man? Because, hey, he's definitely been seeing I've seen some on the on the wire that he's definitely a person they've talked about. That certainly will be traded or should be traded. Yeah, and it doesn't matter what you get back. I mean, they've already given up on him completely so for him And for them to have given up on him, And he's a free agent this year will get anything possible. Maybe maybe nothing. Maybe you're not able to move him, Unfortunately, But I think you're seeing some of these guys that are making these business decision. I think somebody testing a young coach. Some of it is the young coach doesn't have as much cash with the front office is the last coach has, and it's really a terrible place to be, and that's where I think if you're a good organization, you have a strong general manager kind of mediates bolts, and they just don't have that. So let's Ah switch gears here and talk about baseball, the lowest rated world. Siri's in history by far, not even close Now is I think we talked about this A couple of weeks ago, Skinny Is this? Ah, is this how baseball is trending or is just so This is just such a weird year that Ah, it's just for one thing. You and I talked about it. The worst fan base in history is the is Tampa Bay, the Rays that's horrible and also the Dodgers. I mean, you and I are old enough to remember the Dodgers and the Reds having about absolute. That was a great rivalry. And so I could give two squats about the Dodgers, and I certainly don't care about the raise and looks like the rest of the country didn't either..

You Can Ring Nobel

"A video is making the rounds on the internet this week caught on one of those smart doorbell cameras. It's 2 a.m. And a man is anxiously knocking on his neighbor's door trying to wake him. Does the man need help? Is there an emergency is the neighbor's house on fire? Was there a Prowler in the area or some other kind of threat? No doubt. The man Robert Wilson is trying to wake his across the street neighbor to tell him that they just won the Nobel Prize. My name's Moxi and this is your brain on facts. A good reputation is more valuable than money for lilias. Serious a Syrian living in Rome at the time of the big b c a d change over we have no way of knowing if Alfred Nobel ever read publilius, but he definitely had reputation on his mind the Swedish chemist engineer and industrialists found a novel way to combine good old Gunpowder with the exciting new discovery of nitroglycerin to form a truly earth-shaking invention Dynamite. It was a game-changer for Industries like coal mining and it killed people like it was nobody's business both intentionally and through many many Factory explosions. Nobel got richer with each Improvement on the dynamite then his brother Ludovic died a French newspaper ran an obit for Alfred having gotten their lines cross somewhere along the way they were shown the remote As more the paper proclaimed. The merchants of death is dead. Dr. Alfred Nobel who became a rich by finding ways to kill four people faster than ever before died yesterday. That's gotta sting. Nobel had no children and a sudden intense concern about his legacy. So he decided to put some of the money he'd made into the service of repairing his name with a real long-term strategy in his 1895 will drafted the year before he died Nobel instructed that most of his fortune the equivalent of two hundred and fifty million dollars today be set aside to create an award five annual prizes quote to those who during the preceding year shall have conferred the greatest benefit of mankind provided you benefit mankind by way of physics chemistry physiology or medicine literature and problematically vague more on that later long piece. Wait a sec. Say those of you with better recall than me. Where's the Nobel Prize for economics? There wasn't one. There still isn't a part from the one that they're kind of is. The bank of Sweden prize in economic Sciences in memory of Alfred Nobel was created by Sweden's Central Bank in nineteen. Sixty-eight. What about mathematics game popular Apocrypha is that Nobel lost the woman he loved to a mathematician and so did not consider mathematics to be important enough. There's no proof for that story sadly wage and while no one knows for sure the reason it could be as simple as Nobel really wasn't a math guy. I feel you there. Winners are announced in October and November the culmination of a Year's preparation more than six thousand people like Nobel laureates AKA past winners School in various fields and officials from various universities are invited to nominate candidates about a thousand of them for each prize, which usually results in between 150 and 250 nominees. It's not just names in a hat. You have to write a detailed proposal in favor of your nominee and no no matter how much you want to know how cleverly you think you can get away with it. You cannot nominate yourself. Also. You must be alive. Nobel prizes aren't awarded posthumously at least not any more than a few were in the early days, but it was decided in the 1970s that that wasn't their bag anymore, but exceptions make the rule and there is one notable exception in 20 job. 11:00 Canadian immunologist Ralph Steinman received the Nobel Prize for physiology or medicine but he passed away between being nominated and the prize being announced akong assignments daughter. Her father had actually joked about getting the Nobel Prize shortly before he died. They don't give it to you if you've passed away. He said according to her I got to hold out for that. He didn't quite make it but they gave them the prize. Anyway, Steinman must have had a real sixth sense when it comes to convoluted award schemes because non-winning nominees are kept secret out for fifty years in part to prevent a sort of Susan Lucci situation. For those of you who don't recognize the name Susan Lucci is an American soap opera actress who was nominated for a long time. Emmy Award nineteen years in a row before she won. I always suspected that she got the Nam as a running gag after a

"All right. Let's zero in on Paradise. Shall we about half the songs on the album three out of the seven are basically about a teenager's view of life and sex including unrealistic views of romance mixed with strong physical urges. And while the traffic crying out loud has a line about Levi's bursting apart. It's pretty clear that paradise by the Dashboard light is the most upfront about its team. But we only get the romantic longing in the sexual tension were also treated to the consequences of that combination. Steinman is said that he wanted to write a car sex which everything goes horribly in the end and that's pretty much exactly. What happens here
