Fresh update on "steelers" discussed on Latino USA

"As I worked, I worked a lot of times. In 2004, after graduating from Brooklyn college, I was offered a job in public radio and I couldn't turn it down or that's what I told myself that I couldn't turn it down, they could surely be another chance to go back to Spain, funny how I keep telling myself the same thing that gets later. Then no long after I started my job is already producer. I met Julia. Her name is not actually Julia. We'll call her dad. We fell in love, started spending almost every single night together. They moved into a beautiful apartment in Brooklyn. We got married. Twilight brought along, perhaps the happiest moments of my life in the U.S.. I felt I was growing roots. I loved the life that we had. We eloped went to montauk for our honeymoon. We were a team and we could do anything we wanted. So we picked up and moved to LA. Julia taught me so many of the things I know about this country. As an immigrant, I've always been worried about assimilating. But with Julia, I actually understood so many things. Politics, culture, she made me a football fan, who got to the bars and Sundays, it wings, drink mirror, and shear for the Steelers. Went to dollar steady on quite a few times to see many Ramirez about rocks and closing games. I once cooked the rabbit pie for a bunch of friends and they missing yard that we had. I felt like I was growing up. There was a time when I was the farthest away from Seville, both literally and spirit. But I was still go back for Christmas every year. There's a picture Julia wants to come in Spain, I'm laughing, my.

It's Election Day in Pennsylvania; Who Holds the Edge?

"Morning, glory, America, don't go high candidate who you at live inside the beltway on this election day in Pennsylvania, Tuesday, may 17th, polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. today in Pennsylvania. I've heard all over the state from Scranton and all the way up in the northern northeastern corner down to Philadelphia. All the way over to Pittsburgh and up to Erie, and I encourage everyone to go and vote for David McCormick for the United States Senate. I also think Lou Bart, let barletta is a much easier to elect candidate. I don't think mister mastriano can win. I know David McCormick can win. I don't think any of the other people can win if you're going to vote for Kathy. Barnett, or Doctor Oz, I think you were throwing your vote away because they can't beat John fetterman. And this election matters so much because if McCormick doesn't get the nomination, we're going to have a very hard time getting the Senate back. In Republican hands and then confirmation of Supreme Court Justices will remain in Chuck Schumer's hands. The opportunity to break the filibuster will remain in Chuck Schumer's hand. It's vitally important to elect David McCormick. The bronze star recipient graduate of West Point grew up outside of Pittsburgh. He built business in Pittsburgh, built jobs in Pittsburgh. He's a Pittsburgh. And so this goes against migraine to say nice things about a Pittsburgh Steelers fan. I mean, steelers forever with McCormick, but Dave McCormick's a great American and when you're a West Point graduate and you receive the bronze star for valor in the 82nd airborne in the first Gulf War, you can trust the character.

Coach Chan Gailey on the Current State of Football Coaching

"The one thing you said is sort of interesting to me is the head coach setting the tone. And I think this sort of sets up very well and Dan Reeves is one that people need. I think more coaches should look at his style and how he didn't think he was never the most flashiest out front, but he got the job done. And as we come into a time like this, you talk about learning how to set up practices and other things, you know, the mechanics of football. But Dan also took the time when you said to trust, is that becoming such a, I mean, is that one of the issues that we're seeing now coach with teams and NFL's where your owners, the interplay between coaches, coaching staff, owners is not what it used to be, where you had that central dominant sort of head coach figure. Well, unfortunately, coaching right now is no different than society. It's a society. You know, what's in it for me, what's good for me, so everybody's trying to protect their entity and you have, from when I started in mid 80s to now, I see a bigger disparity between the trust level between front office and coaching staff. And ownership and front office and coaching staff. It's just become more divided rather than becoming more together. And really, right now, the people that have the most patience are the Steelers. And through the years, it's proven out. They've got patients. They've got trust. They found the guy. They believe in and they go with him and they don't bail at the first sign of the adversity and so it's been it's been, it was fun to be a part of their organization for the four years. I was there. And to see them because they, to me, they are really unique right now.

NFL Says All Teams Must Add Minority Offensive Coach

"NFL is now requiring every team to have a minority coach in a key offensive role. According to the NFL, turns out that recently the head coaches in the NFL have come from the offensive side of the ball and there is in the view of the NFL and insufficient number of minorities occupying these kinds of positions. Aside from the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, there is one other black coach, his name is lovey Smith, Texans just hired him. And the dolphins hired a man named Mike mcdaniel, who is biracial, one of his parents, it's white, one of his parents is black. And the NFL has now an equity measure to require each team to have a minority assistant coach. In a significant role on its offensive staff.

"Granted ben was throwing the ball really fast in man. I was reading an article today behind the curtain dot com. Your one stop shop for often. Pittsburgh steelers it was by the great k. T smith also known as china shop which stands for cliff. Hair is still a punk and he did a it was three keys to victory for the steelers so this is kind of kind of part of this as well but i was watching some of those clips last year and my goodness i was watched the offensive line. And it's at the snap of the ball. They had such a big backtrack. They were just getting. i mean. Just bull rushed. Ben rothlisberger catch. Snap throw the ball because the guys were right there. It's like they did did nothing but just give ground give ground and not be physical at all. I'm hoping that's not the case anymore. But when. I said that they're allowed to give up one second. I'll say that's okay. That's because buffalo last year when they got two or more sacks in a game they were eleven in one there are eleven and one last year so those are some things that offense needs to do get ninety yards rushing. Don't turn the ball over and make sure you're protecting ben rothlisberger everything else. It would be great but it wasn't enough of a correlation to say they. It was a really big difference maker to be one of those quote unquote jackpot numbers. So let's the defense fish have a little bit more. The notes three of them so that was three for the offense. Let's look at three for the defense. The defense three hundred okay. This is sparta. no not that. Three hundred three hundred passing yards game last season when buffalo.

"Like i said all they need is one more point than their opponent but what are some things they can do to help. Get there so we're going to look at first. We'll look at that. We'll look at the offense and what i basically was. I looked at twenty twenty trends for both the steelers and the bills. Say if your odds are gonna increase for success if you can do this so let let's kick it off here you go. Let's look at the steelers. let's look rushing yards. I'm gonna give you a number and you're going to be like really. That's all and then i'm going to remind you why now disclaimer. I didn't do passing your words or passing attempts. I did at least two rushing yards because we have to remember the steelers offense although they still have some similar terminology. It's a new offense. It's new offensive coordinator and hopefully more than anything. It's a new offensive philosophy that's ultimately what we want to see steeler fans because that was what was frustrating at times in twenty twenty so this one is a little bit tough it might not fit as much. But i'm going to do this. One based on twenty twenty because the numbers were neat. How about the number of ninety if the steelers can rush for ninety yards or more in this game it will help. Increase their odds of being victorious. Now part of that is that doesn't just been gone. Just run run. Run run run. You want to run effectively but if they get that number it's probably because they're still in a game it's close enough that they can keep running the ball if you if that makes sense to you but your prostate. Why did you come up with a number of ninety in twenty twenty when the steelers rushed for ninety yards or more they were seven no seven times. They rushed the ball ninety yards or more they were seven and oh so and this included the postseason. So if you're looking at a total of seventeen games that means in the other ted that the steelers were five and five ultimately so you're saying wow they were five hundred if they were under ninety yards but they won every game where they went any. Yeah doesn't mean that'll hold true to twenty twenty one but it's a number to start with to say. Hey get that ninety yards rushing and you might have a better chance to win this game okay. So that's one okay. Here's another one. Here's zero zero turnovers for the steelers. I'm not even talking about yet. Turnover margin we'll get there but let's just as the number zero zero turnovers because when you look at that turnover margin okay. Buffalo was six last year when they had a positive turnover margin. Okay if the steelers turn the ball over at all did can't have a positive turnover margin. The best you can do is even so if you hold onto the ball. Then you're taking that a big thing from there away from them the steelers when they had zero turnovers or or was more or less or if they had a turnover margin of zero or more were eleven one k. There are eleven when they were one in four with a negative turnover margin and the only the only game that was was against tennessee. They were i think minus three and they still managed to plus that game which was in tennessee which was crazy so the point is you can't have a negative turnover margin if you don't turn the ball over at all so if the offense takes care of the ball and doesn't have any turnovers you've already done your part so then it's on the defense to to get take away so then you're getting into that positive in that positive turnover margin area area. So you're the thing is is when you're in that negative which means the offense is turning the ball over. That's when you're in trouble so don't turn the ball over game..

"Linebackers aren't put in as much of a tough situation so we can get a better gauge on. How much devin. Bush is ready to go for the season. What the steelers have in their new middle linebacker. Joe schubert would love to see. What would you get there. And is roberts lane much better off in that reserve role that can come in and if that's just better suited for him so those are some numbers and things to look for. So i wanna see the steelers. I want to see them. Get first downs in the first quarter. I wanna see them. Put points of the board in the first quarter. And i would also like to the steelers to get off the field in the first quarter on defense. The the third down conversion third-down rates conversion rate. Sorry be pretty low in the first quarter but even in the first half. I'd like to see the steelers win the first half and not just dominate the second half like they did last week. So that's what the numbers i'm looking for. I'm hopefully that was fun and informative for you. All i'm sorry if i was just regurgitating a lot of stats but my goodness. That's an awful lot to take in from this game this past week. It was absolutely crazy that the you know. The steelers gave up no first downs. In the second half didn't give a third dot conversion the entire game had a crazy time of possession advantage and completely dominated that part of the game. I would just like to see the steelers. Be able to put points on the board this next game before the two minute. Warning of the first half because the steelers they have one score in the first half shofar. Let's let's get that going a little bit better. But i'm excited to see what things can happen. I'm excited to see. I'm not gonna say a full stadium because it's preseason that it just doesn't fill up but i'm excited to see numerous fans throughout the stadium. Saturday night at heinz field. I really am. I'm looking forward to seeing this game. It's nationally televised on. nfl network. And because the steelers are the home team you will get the home team announcers which is very positive. Because it should be charlie batch and bob papillon and you don't have to listen to the other teams announcers never talked about the steelers instead. The lines fans have to listen to the steelers. "Well let me come back to it. In the second half of the cowboys game in the in the hall of fame gave the steelers punted twice again but the cowboys punted three times in the second half when they didn't put it on the first half when you're looking at the eagles game by goodness the steelers did not punt in the second half. Let's not get in the second half stuff. Let's get to the first half stuff. I i mean they were close. In first nouns. The steelers head nine to the eagles ten in the first half the score was sixteen seven and the steelers did not score. They're seven points until just inside the two minute warning so it's kind of like they really didn't get going to actually have stuff on the scoreboard. Now if you've gone back and watch the game over and over again i've twenty. I've watched it through again. One time but i feel like i watched it over because i was watching each plight four or five times before i went to the next one so i feel like i've watched it over over five times again. It just was all at one time. You could definitely see that the steelers were right. On the verge. Bright on the verge of being able to to really extend those drives in the first half in just a couple of things between i mean penalties a negative play on an end around things things of that nature than putting four times so the first downs that were closed with the steelers and eagles ten. I'd already said but the eagles their ten first downs they were all passing no rushing. Let's just interesting and none on penalties. Either the steelers only twenty percent on third down conversions. They wanna five but the eagles were. Oh a five. No third down conversions. The first half. And we'll find out third down conversions period for the game the total yards..

"The annual hall of fame game the steelers ladies and gentlemen back to football and reports galore coming out of training camp which really highlights the topic of today's show. Basically speaking about the pittsburgh steelers rookies and how they're basically stealing the show at this year's training camp it is one of those really exciting things really to watch to see to listen to to read about like these guys have stepped up in a big way for this team and like i mentioned a few months ago. Back when team was Unfortunately having to cut players due to a drop salary cap. The steelers need their rookies to have a big year. They will go as far as this. Rookie class takes them. And right now. It sounds like that. Rookie class is shaping up. Just the early parts of this offseason. They are shaping up quite nicely so what that means for this team and really can take this position by position because we continue continuously here a good things really about this entire class. You'll remember the twenty twenty draft class every single member every single one of those big steelers made made the team and had some sort of impact by the end of the year whether a special teams whether it was a starting role the steelers got a lot out of their six picks of the twenty twenty class. Now here in twenty twenty one nine new members of the team and they are on track to have all those guys make the roster yet again. It really is exciting. One of the big things that happened this past weekend. It's kind of dropped their initial depth chart. Which of course doesn't mean too much One once you have to get through four preseason games and about six weeks of training camp before you hit week one. Things are fluid. Those jobs will swap around but there were some rookies vary higher in that depth chart very early including the first guy. Wanna talk about of course. First round pick nause harris. It was not really a up for too much debate amongst people At least the media types when watching the steelers minicamp and ota's nausea. Here's was the guy. Starting every single drill he was the guy getting the bulk of the carries the bulk of the wraps and once again it was kinda confirmed that he is the starting running back for the pittsburgh steelers on day one of training camp which is one hundred percent unheard of for this team..

"Morning. It's july it is july first. My goodness we are in the second. Half of twenty twenty one. We are right in the midst of summer. We are in the month when nfl training camp begins. Yes it is getting closer to that time that is ultimately what it comes down to seeing the pittsburgh steelers unfortunately not in latrobe but adds heinz field and summit the up mc release core sports complex for training camp as they prepare for the twenty twenty one season. That's what it really all comes down to. That's what this is all about I'm just happy to be here. We're gonna talk some numbers with. Yeah i'm a. I'm a little bit flustered and everything right now trying to squeeze stuff in because the next week i'm on vacation you'll think you'll still have a stat gate from me but i'm not going to be on any of the live youtube shows and i tell you there is so much work to be done the week before going on vacation. It's like it's like doing three weeks of work. And i'm not talking tse. I'm just talking about life in general of just trying to get everything done in order to then have a week to not have to do everything so it's kind of interesting how that all works out so coming at you with a couple of different topics. We'll see how deeply dive in everything kind of as we go along. I'm just gonna kinda let things flow a little bit but this the topic today is stems from a email conversation. I was having With someone by the name of mike. Smith i know that's very specific name. I don't know of too many. Mikes miss out actually had about eight but this is one particular steelers fan. Mike smith who said to me. Greetings from my greetings fellow number nerd and he went onto to say some stuff but he wanted to know about he was said he was thinking about the seventeenth game being added and of course you know they say where's it at what doesn't matter where the opponents added bottom line is. There's another game at the end of the season. Now on it's just. I mean they could've started earlier. You could say there's another game at the beginning but they're starting the nfl season that the same spot. They're going an extra week in january and he was. Mike was thinking about the late season collapses. That's happened with the steelers recently. And he was wondering if it was a pattern he wanted to know the steelers worse later in the season and by having an extra game. Is that actually going to be bad news for them. Because of wearing down at a team like the steelers are playing as well at the end of the season as they are at other points and honestly. I like to argue that sometimes. It's playing the best the beginning of the season so this is what we did. Mike and i were were conversing. He put together this fantastic graphic for me to us. We're going to talk about today. And then eventually. I'm going to do an article word. Includes this graphic. And here's what mike did. We're going to look at this. In order to try to draw some various conclusions. He went over the last ten years. He looked at data from the last ten years. The pittsburgh steelers record. He went week by week. The result of the game he color coded it he has winds are green and losses are. They're not directly read. They're more of an orange almost like a peach doesn't matter this podcast. You could save anyway. And of course he had their loan tie and blue and went through and looked out of the steelers do at various points of the season. And how was that. Been over the last ten years now before we get into that. I got into some very interesting discussions on the website this week about using data and i was someone was actually accusing. Bt of using twenty twenty data and it's not very good data because this team is so different. Well you know what data's any better you know coming from a numbers guy. What data would be better than twenty twenty if you if you're looking at. Let's say the offense you go twenty. Nineteen that doesn't give you very good data because almost the whole season was played without ben. Rothlisberger you go to the you go twenty eighteen. That doesn't give you very good data because by. Then you're you're it's too much roster turnover because yes you're not gonna have the same roster and yes you. You shouldn't just look at what happened here before. And tickets going to be the exact same thing because we all know. That's not the case. So i don't know what the gripe really was other than someone who just likes to complain for the sake of complaining if you know what i mean. We probably all know people like that that you know like an was even an article that i wrote. This whole discussion went down and it was about. Oh well you need to take this. Coun- that account. Oh well you didn't take this into account took eighth things into account and because they didn't take nine thing into account everything drop now. I mean there's various ways to look at stuff and my argument is when it when it comes to looking at past data and past years. This is just a good time to talk about this. When you look at data like this what that does is it gives you a baseline it gives you a starting point for example you wanna talk about. Let's see the steelers offense for twenty twenty one. Well look at the steelers offense in twenty twenty. And then you've got to look at what factors have changed to make you think that offense could go in one direction or the other and different factors are going to make it go in one direction the other and then you weigh those factors. For example. ben rothlisberger returned. some people. Think that's a good thing. People think that's a bad thing that's going to depend on how that weighs in into your factories ation. The steelers drafted a running back in the first round. Know for almost everyone. That's going to be factoring. In the positives of the steelers have basically completely revamped offensive line with only one starter returning and they're not even expected to start in the same position. That's got a factor in in the something. The steelers are playing different opponents this year although more than half their opponents of the same opponents from last year then if you really want to dive into it.

"That's an interesting story to look into more. But i didn't find anything else about that. One draft by the steelers punted one year. That was it the next time they drafted. A punter was nineteen. Eighty-five was in the eighth round. Also like goodson. who is in the eighth round. Was harry newsome. He punted all sixteen games his rookie year. Yet seventy eight punts. His average was thirty. Nine point six so it was under a forty yard average but his career was forty two point five and last but not least was the fourth round draft. Pick of two thousand seven daniel sepulveda's which i do have to say the series even traded up to draft him He hunted in all sixteen games. He had sixty eight punts. He had an average of forty two point four his rookie year and his career average was forty. Three point seven so the biggest thing about that. When i ran all those numbers that jumped out to me wasn't about the average career and all that it was in every potter that the steelers of drafted since Since craig colquitt that actually shows up as just a punter they were the punter the rookie year. They put it every game so although we talk about. Is it a training camp battle. What everything it would take a lot. I think for presley. Harv into not win this job. Because if you're gonna spend the draft capital in punter he's your partner so that's the some little fun punt numbers there at the end so thanks again for joining me. Make sure you are checking out. "How it goes. I have a list based on ninety man rosters. Okay so this is going to change. But we don't know the steelers roster yet of course we don't have their snaps that they're playing this year in order to do this snap way today. A h so the best i can do is tell you the average age of the ninety man roster and right now for the pittsburgh steelers their average age there ninety man roster is twenty five point four four the got to remember a lot of guys that aren't going to make that team are the younger guys. Guys that are trying to crack their way in the nfl and and catch on with the team. Things like that there could be. There's occasional older guy that just is going to get cut because they don't have it anymore but generally the average age is get dropped down during training camp because of somebody players there now if you want to know where this is this. The steelers were ranked twentieth opposite their the twentieth. Youngest team right now so that puts them asaba just making sure. I had my numbers right. Sorry for positive for a moment there that puts them eleventh. If you're looking for the older steam believe it or not right now the oldest team the houston. Texans the houston. Texans have that have that. Have the oldest age based on everything It goes houston san francisco arizona new england tampa baltimore buffalo tennessee chicago new york giants. And then the steelers who have the same two decimal places the same average age as both the washington football team and the detroit lions. So that's where they sit right now but that's gonna change but that's the best we can do based on the data right now so the number might look younger for the steelers but the fact that there eleven still has them in the top half. I think that's where you wanna be. They're getting right about where that is but really it comes down to play on the field if really it it it really does come down to that so i have one more thing i was gonna dive into since i have a a little bit of time to finish off the show and that was i was talking with senior editor jeff hartmann and say hey you know i like to do. I was two two different topics. I know this topic that. I have this week is gonna take a little bit longer up through the numbers but i always like to have another one small to finish out the show i look at you have a question on and then he throws me one of mike. That's too good. I got to see it for its own show. And then he throws another one. Actually i thought i thought said no. That's good to say that. I don't show or both in one. Shell finally got one and this. This is so jeff hartmann inspired you if you understood if you listen to antiwar charge. You're gonna why. I decided. I go back and look at punters drafted by the steelers and how they wanted their first year georgia just to get the information. It doesn't mean that that presley. Harvard in the third or the second. I can't remember pretty sure it's the third presley harvard. We'll just leave it there whether whether it's a big six or thick kicker whatever people wanted to call him a mock on brian. Anthony davis is dick name because it just so what does it mean that. He's going to be locked into anything going on here. But i just thought i break this down the first thing of note. That's nice well. I searched in all the steelers draft and only came up with previously to harbin. Four punters the steelers drafted now with the first one being craig colquitt nineteen seventy eight. It's important to note that what might have happened with that announcing the steelers never drafted punter before that it might have been that either. A just didn't have the players position listed. Which i'll tell you this pro football reference for some reason doesn't have benny snell listed as a running back you. Do you do a filter for running backs. He's not going to show up. They just have him listed as a football player. They have its position in there. At least that was the case a couple of weeks ago and since unless they fixed it it could be that. That was the case or the bigger possibilities. You go back in steelers history. Is that the player that punted also did other things they just something else that was thrown on because the you didn't always have just strictly a punter but so we're going back. I'm confident that this goes back to the merger. So i'll just at least say that kicking it in one thousand nine hundred seventy eight. You had craig colquitt. He punted in all sixteen games. He had sixty six punts. He averaged forty point zero yards per punt and on his career average forty one point three so below the average first year not surprising the next punter. Oh and he was. He was a third round draft. Pick by the white guy for that in the next drafted by the steelers was in nineteen eighty two. It was john goodson. He punted nine games. You're like oh. I only nine remember what you're saying. It was drafted nineteen eighty two. That was the strike year. He punted every game but that was the strike here. And this is regular season stats. I didn't i didn't throw in playoff. He punted forty nine times. He had a forty point four yard average which was also his career average. Because that was the only year you ever played the nfl..

Anthony davis jeff hartmann john goodson nine games eleventh ninety man nine sixty six punts benny snell twentieth detroit lions eleven nineteen eighty two Four punters twenty five point forty one point third round this week new england Harvard

"To just continue to break down these numbers of age age in the nfl. How does it factor in with these kind of things. I just ran over this this great stat of the of the Snap way today. I did that. For two thousand twenty. Now we're gonna look at two thousand. Nineteen two thousand nineteen now. So if you let's let's remember the steelers number from two thousand eighteen the steelers number not to that a shootout and twenty for two thousand twenty or twenty six point nine when they when you did it by the by the weighted by the snaps was twenty six point nine the year before. Two thousand nine hundred much lower. I still say. That's part of the ben rothlisberger factor. They were twenty six point. Four now i told you when you were just looking at the overall age that this was the youngest average age on pro football reference for the steelers since nineteen ninety-one was the case in two thousand nineteen but it comes the nfl. They weren't sixteenth. They are middle of the pack so even though it was young for the steelers now granted taking into account the the waiting at by the snaps. They were middle of the road. Get they were they. Were actually a little bit older offense. They were twenty seven point zero which was which was eleventh and on defense they were younger. Twenty six point one which was nineteen and they were also middle of the road of sixteenth on for special teams which twenty five point nine. But if you wanna look at it that year you're looking at the super bowl champion kansas city chiefs who that year. I'm they were twenty first twenty km h which is overall which is actually one of the lower ones that you'll see when it comes to the team that won the super bowl and you'll see that as we move onto the next one that That th that was very interesting that that was one of the younger teams to win the super bowl compare ranking wise in recent years. So that's where the steelers were in twenty nineteen if you go back to twenty eighteen so you went twenty six point nine in in twenty twenty. Then you had twenty six point. Four in twenty nineteen twenty. Eighteen was a little bit different. They were back backup to twenty six point. Nine that was seventh in the nfl. It was basically tied with washington. They said was sixth and they were sixth. In offense of twenty seven point. Nine eighteenth and defenses twenty six point two and tenth and special teams is twenty six once. They had older special teams in two thousand eighteen. But what's interesting is the number one team ranked as the oldest team was also the super bowl champion. They were ranked number one in age. They are the oldest average age with waited with snaps in the nfl. and the los angeles rams. They played in the super bowl. Were they were eleventh. So that's that's where they fell there. If you go back to two thousand seventeen the steelers the they took another dip down. They were twenty six point five. They were fourteenth in the. Nfl is where they sat. They were twenty seven point. Four on offense which is the seventh oldest and twenty five point seven defense which was the twenty third oldest. They were down there on. Defense is what really brought him down and their special teams were fourteenth. Just a regular average now. The super bowl champion that year was philadelphia who they were seventh. Overall and new england was fifth. So there you go. If you wanna have a better idea. I'll i'll go back with the super bowl champs a few more years because that might be more of what what you're looking for twenty sixteen new england. They were tents. They were the tenth. Oldest twenty fifteen was denver. They were seven's twenty. Fourteen was new england. They were tenth twenty thirteen. There's your outlier. Seattle was thirtieth. They were young. They were under twenty six when it was waited for snaps and they won the super bowl over the ninth. Highest denver broncos a lot of people. Denver is gonna win that game in two thousand twelve that disgusting purple team. They were sixth. Twenty eleven. The giants. They were tenth in two thousand ten. We'll go back to their one now. You will go a little bit further because we can The that the two thousand. Ten green bay was twenty-second while pittsburgh was third steals. Were the third oldest team. And that's part of the reason why they got there there the third steep but they but they didn't win it The year before that in new orleans was ninth they beat indi who was twenty eight and the two thousand and eight when the steelers last night. Last they won the super bowl They were the twelfth oldest team in the league they were they were twelve. So i don't have data. That goes back to two thousand five and only get back two thousand six. So that's why. Stop there so that's interesting. That the steelers where they fall and that yes you. You don't want your. It's very rare. That the oldest team wins the superbowl. I mean new england a couple of years ago but the reason i say that that's rare is you don't wanna be it's that sweet spot you don't want to be too old but yet you don't wanna be inexperienced and things like that so that's the ultimate question going into it so i know what the question is now will. What does that mean for. Twenty twenty one absolutely..

tenth two thousand Nine sixteenth sixth fifth seventh Eighteen eight twenty third eleventh twelve nineteen twenty five point fourteenth Twenty six point twenty six thirtieth nine twenty seven point

"Are see. We are forced to listen to quarterback so often in the world of nfl analysis. So i just wanna thank you for helping lead. The db revolution espn daily. Why does this happen. You guys finally invited me or it's your time man your old team. The steelers are right now. Undefeated and that is surprising. Let's be honest to a lot of people. So how surprising is it though to you. I think it's it's. It's more surprising when you actually watch the games <hes>. It's obviously surprising. Anytime team goes through more than half of the season and their undefeated. But when you watch the steelers play the second half against tennessee titans even watching them to send the backup quarterback gets the denver broncos or be dominated upfront defensively the way they were against the baltimore ravens but still be undefeated. I think that's the fascinating part is not just that they've managed to win. Every game is just inside of those games. you seen opportunities for them to lose. But they've made the place that they've to. I mean you can even look at a match up against the dallas cowboys and say you know gary gilbert and the dallas cowboys may have deserve to win that game. But that's what this lied about was going to come down to one possession games. He's gonna come our critical situation though football moments and at least it does far. The steelers have found answers to any questions in those important moments. And this is why you sit undefeated. So how does this defense stack up. Ryan versus the steeler defense. Is that you played for that. You helped lead. What are the holes in this defense. You know what. I don't think they necessarily have holes in the sense of of those things being a negative right. He's looking to make a rush. The passer with just for the obviously can bring bring pressure make fitzpatrick ultimate playmaker on the back end and i think they have really good corners. But they don't have that great court but when you all those things together i think you get one of the top defense in the league especially when it comes to pressure and turning the ball over we. That's what football is right. Like people aren't going to hold you. Thirteen points like we did wait. Like that's not the ball we play it. You can't intimidate people like i would get fined and kicked out of every game. Five play james harrison fell six million dollars a year. You can't do those things anymore. But if you could get the ball which the pittsburgh steelers do know that really helps and that's why this team world season. Well i wanna get into the difference between playing football then versus now especially because offense is king these days as you implied right there so the defense is the big reason. The steelers are undefeated. The offense though i mean they've been relatively relatively average so can eighteen built around defense. Like the steelers are ryan. Can that sort of team win in the modern nfl. I believe they can. I believe they can. Because if you look at the individual weapons offensively like they are extremely. good <hes>. I think you you're missing that one running back piece but we look at pool. Smith schuster the johnson. Eric ebron like that's a skill set or skill position that a lot of teams would love to have especially teams not named became the city chiefs. And so if you can do all those things on the outside like they can. You can score points. Also look at this team at critical moments though. Think about tennessee. Titans having to get a drive late in the game even though been was a reception late like they were able to the ball greg band. There's gonna prevail on the road. The pittsburgh steelers had the hold on dearly man. Hold on they do for the baltimore. Ravens they score in the second half and they were able to do that then back pop. For the end zone touchdown pittsburgh and all the out cut to the chase. Claypool man play. It just seems that all the critical point of the season it's offense has been able to produce down to like. I said the dallas cowboy game last week obviously exploiting a very bad bengals defense and well in a team like the cat city chiefs right and i say okay. One had the baby stopped him have to limit big play. The pittsburgh steelers can do that with rush. Plays on the back end right. Play play man when they need to stop the big click now. Let's go offensively the only time we've ever seen patrick mahomes lose. He was in the playoffs. He was standing across from another super bowl. Winning quarterback that was tom brady and rothlisburger. Isn't tom brady but he can do. Some of those things in important moments. And we've seen of do those. And so i think this team can most certainly went into as you mentioned chase claypool his nickname if catching on with you but maple tron. He comes from canada. He's this guy. I didn't know anything about. I wonder if you did because he has seven touchdowns in his first nine games as a pro. What has he brought to this offense. I mean you look at what this league is turning into. Because of the lack of physicality it's a it's a size speed league right like it's starting to they used to be. It didn't matter what happened in the shorts olympics at the combine like if a fast it didn't necessarily mean it was going to translate do can do certain things there did me but it's starting to mean that at the wide receiver position because of the rules. Like if you could flat out run you're gonna probably get open because they can't hold you. You pass five yards. They can't hit you across the middle play putin critic who has great hands he tracks the ball. Well he has a big body and so when you have all those things just translate we've seen chase claypool. You know kind of come out of nowhere. They just kinda have a knack for finding people that sit what they want to do and utilizing them in a way. That truly helps the team chase. Claypool is just another example of that

"And we've got hilarity brought to you by other than our good friend toady. Definitely tony. Good evening. My friend. Everybody. Happy Monday happy Super Bowl. It's great to be with you once again and came to talk about the Super Bowl and many other things have Steelers. Yep. I know exactly what you wanna talk about. And I can't wait to talk about the Super Bowl because you know, what it was actually a game that I was it did keep my attention everyone talking about boring. It was not for me. I just I didn't like the ending, of course. Because that gives up my, you know, who I was rooting for who mostly everybody outside of Massachusetts, Louisiana and St Louis Missouri were rooting for. I did leave them out last week. But you are right. Once again, my name is Brian Anthony Davis. I've got to say that at the beginning. And I'm really excited to talk about this game. And let's. Get to the most exciting thing of this game. Tony, and I think you will agree. I will agree. But most likely my wife, and her friends will agree that Adam LeVine and maroon five or the best thing of the Super Bowl aback Nixon. Fact, I was a I was bowling in my one friend my teammate said, oh, he popped the shirt off, ladies, and I almost dropped the ball laughing. So to me that was the best part? You know what? So my wife and her friends were like. They I may hearken back to two thousand four and one of my favorite moments. I can't believe that nipple gate and the word drove malfunction was actually fifteen years ago. Tony, and I remember that it's playing day, and my wife, my wife and her friends were saying boy too bad. There couldn't be a wardrobe malfunction tonight and hear me as a guy as a guy that is proud of. I mean, you know, has a son record of heterosexuality. I'm like, you know, what I would love to see that. I think that would be the most hilarious thing ever to see animal flopping on the wind in front of millions and millions of people for you. But anyways, I digress. We're here to talk about football actually, thought the the halftime show was pretty good. I am maroon five fan. I have seen them in concert. Actually, I went to see the Counting Crows, and this was about this was probably about. Almost twelve years ago. And they it was the Counting Crows and maroon five and the third time, I saw the county crows amazing ban. But they did have at that night. But then maroon five states, and I knew very little that these guys get really take it home..

"And he didn't see why can't we correct that? That's the problem. Just to be a problem. And we saw with the Steelers this year if the Steelers could. If the Steelers could challenge penalties. Maybe Mike Tomlin's goose egg on that would finally turn around and actually get a reversal. You know, I just. I just don't understand it. A why we see a wrong, and we can team to let it happen you, and I are a fan of old school professional wrestling. I'm a big fan of professional wrestling. And it's always the thing. You know, like the official term is back. He didn't see it. And then we have a new champion, but that's a scrapped in that's entertainment. This is more than that. We need to we need to fix it. I mean, you can't write the wrong next week by giving a rematch like you can't professional wrestling. It's not just doesn't happen that way. They always end up righting that wrong because always ends up to be a rematch. And there's some kind of redemption can't get that redemption here. So always eventually win in wrestling. Not in the NFL. So I mean, what then there's some people that are saying that maybe it is scripted because it kind of feel like. I guess we gotta make. Tom Brady an all time God. And it just seems that way I'm not the kind of guy, but makes me wonder sometimes to just want the patriots to continue to win. I. Our grapes. And and the the phrase that they use all the time that drives me crazy. But it's true. You hate us. 'cause you hang us. But you know it. It's just drives me nuts. If the Steelers were in that position if feels AFC championship game, I'm not even gonna factor fiction this when they would have not gotten the calls, and and it would be even worse day today. I absolute tell you that something's gotta be done. We have a possible solution, but apparently opening Pandora's box, and you can't do that. But it's gotta be as obvious as the birthmark on. Drew Brees is faith that something's gotta be done. And that was in poor taste, I apologize. But I I had to get some humor out of this whole situation. But I thought Kansas City got ripped off. I think the fans got ripped off. I think the fans would have loved to have seen Pat Mahomes young buck against old cow. Boy, drew Brees. I think I think that would have been just absolutely amazing um. I guess you're getting that in often Brady. But I I think everybody wanted when it. Chiefs say it's a I really thought they did. But you know, I guess enough sour grapes there. But the big question is, and we always take the show, and we pertain to what's going on with the Pittsburgh Steelers. So what is the biggest problem that everybody has identified as the biggest problem with the Steelers, Tony and that is the defense, but after seeing yesterday's games and watching? Teams lose leads and have a lead with thirty five seconds left. And it still gets tied. You know, you the patriots took thirty five seconds left. I mean, no lead was safe with. I mean, if you would have had a chance to get the ball with ten seconds left. It might have been safe yesterday. He was just letting sane. Yeah. And in in the scorer gang fourteen seven the fourth quarter, and then found scores thirty seven thirty one. It's almost like they just wait you offense to for either team. This flip the switch, and it's like all right win score anytime and went now. So it's just it's just kinda league. Now. So my factor. Fixing for you. Tony is the Steelers defense is not that bad defense is dead in the NFL. Is that fact or is that fiction? I'm gonna say, it's it's fact, I mean, they're the defense isn't isn't horrible. It's just it's just it's just impossible to the whole offensives down in the fourth quarter. Unfortunately, the students were able to the feelers offense wasn't able to come back in the fourth quarter enough time this year, you know, while defense was giving leads in fourth quarter..

"But you know, that that was also an equally miraculous finished. And we were just talking there about the immaculate reception the immaculate reception. Okay. If you had if you had money on the whoever the hell who are they playing then? Raiders clean Hilton raiders buddy on the raiders than I thought that was fixed better believe it. And I know a lot of people who did have money on the raiders back then and they thought it was fixed to doesn't seem that way. No. It doesn't seem that way. How do you value fix that? How do you throw a ball caroms off of guy, and it goes right off the shoot tops of another guy, and he happens to catch it. And and by the way, that was disputed to this day. It's disputed the Steeler the raiders say that he cut the ball off the ground. They're yo the raiders. And there were guys on the field black and silver staring at that. What bowl hitting the turf in up in the Franco, Harris, his hands and one of the National Football League do about it nothing. You know, why? Because they wanted to be all here. Yeah. The Steelers we you know, they had a lot of money invested in the in the promotional, the marketing the whole terrible. Tell I'm telling you filled is more to this than than than meets the eye. And then you talk about the hail Mary pass. And and that was screwy from the very beginning. The Viking said that the guy pushed off I've seen that replay a million times he never pushed off. Oh, okay. Thank you very much, Mr. head of officiating National Football League. So what Phil? So you've seen a million times. So you're the guy you're gonna look at that. Well, if I had money on the game the guy's got money on the game. Don't make the decisions that the referees. The officials of the game they make the decisions they take look at the replay. And and you know, everybody that I've talked to that saw that game and saw that replay says the same thing. They there was no push off that that pass was caught clean that. It was just a very strange. Catchy. Catch it cut. It off his hip. The Viking defender missed it. All right. You don't have to go through a big long. You know, mother goose fairy tale about the thing. I know what happened, and I can tell you if I'd been a guy lost money on that game. And you're putting me through the searing nature vet where I'm picking up a red hot poker? Right. Oh boy. Re here, but. Doing Rudy try because you're the bathroom saying that there's blood blood. I was frightened. All right. That's about me over here because I heard from the bathroom God blood God blood. I thought I was passing. It's the trip. Cocktail I know now. Here. You know, I'm telling you right now this is over and there's going to be a lot of people in New Orleans. And and let me tell you what bells I know a lot of guys from New Orleans, and they're not exactly the the shrinking violet pensions saying they're not exactly own. Well, I guess I'll just go home and suck it up. Doing a lot of guys with black shirts and silver ties with this. Yes, I know where you're going with this. Yes. "Barry Sanders, but didn't have a chance to get any of them because they picked seventh and the ended up with Tim Worley. So it was just a situation where they won like two or three out of their last four to like below spot. It was it was what could have been was was just amazing. But and then they went ahead and took Tom Rick. It's with I believe the number twenty one or twenty two pick. 'cause Minnesota was a good team the year before too. So very interesting. Don't know they're gonna have to number one picks. But hopefully would be so much better in a footnote to the Mike Mary situation where he held out one of his biggest regrets leaving the Pittsburgh Steelers. And that wasn't something. I heard from other sources I heard that from Mike Mary weather. I met him at a signing that I was working and I talked to him extensively. Nice. Very nice, man. Fantastic. He looked at me and said, yeah, man, if I had any regret it was it was leaving Pittsburgh. I should've never done that. But you know, money talks. And that's that's basically, and he wishes that he would have foregone the extra money and just stayed in. Pittsburgh who knows what might have been. 'cause if you remember the nineteen eighty nine season, they ended up by a bubble joint or joint the goalpost from guy named David shred. Well for the Broncos they lost twenty four twenty three or something. Like that in Denver. They could have been in the AFC championship game where they would've played the Cleveland Browns of all teams and could have actually been in the Super Bowl against San Francisco that you're that would have been absolutely amazing. But with that being said talk to bet a lot of feeler stuff, and there's so much going on. I'm sure we're going to have just as much. On next week. Tony, I appreciate all your time. It was it was a fun show. I really enjoyed talking to Dave in you. And all the the great football talk tonight. "steelers" Discussed on Behind the Steel Curtain

"Or if this is something where the Steelers say look we've had enough. And if this continues to happen, you're going to be gone. I'm not sure how it plays out obviously on Wednesday might thomma will hold his weekly press conference in you can imagine the barrage of questions he's gonna have regarding in Tony Brown situation. Everything from the questionable knee injury. Which some are saying was fake to hide the situation that the story to what are they going to do with Brown? Now does he really want to be traded? Are they going to consider trading him? Are they keeping their options open? I would say that Wednesday's press conference is gonna be must must see television for the Steeler fan base all around the world. But what should the Steelers do in my opinion the Steelers should take into a new Brown, and they should tell them. Look, you're not going anywhere. We're not trading you. We're not. We're not cutting. You we need you on this team. The problem is that we need you one hundred percent and were dedicated to you in finding you some help, and we wanna get I think the Steelers need to kinda sit down with him and figure out. What is it that you want is it a Super Bowl win? Okay. You have great opportunity with the Pittsburgh Steelers to do that. Do you just want nothing, but this accolades 'cause if that's the case will under Randy feeder her that might not be a viable option Randy feeders offense with Ben Rothlisberger. At the helm has shown that they spread the ball out more. Antonio Brown's targets have gone down. Evidently since feet and became the offense coordinator, maybe they need to figure out what Brown is so frustrated with is it the lack of touchdowns can't be. He said a season high for himself and for the Steelers franchise add the position is it that his receptions of gone down. Yes. But he was still over one hundred receptions for the season. What about yardage he and juju Smith Schuster both head over twelve hundred dollars receiving and they were one of only a few teams ever do that in the modern era in the National Football League. So as the Steelers organization, I would say in Tonja, what is it that you want? It was at the team end EP where you upset because you've won four of those already is it is it the juju species for one the team MVP because if so why is that so important is it a frustration about the team in that you lost in New Orleans despite your huge day, or is it that you just don't wanna be here anymore. This is the the discussions they have to have with Brown. But in my opinion, in this is just my opinion. Trading is not an option releasing giving a straight out release is not an option Antonio Brown needs to be a part of this team. But he needs to be a part of the team in the right way. He needs to be a good teammate. He needs to take other players under his wing like others him like Hines ward. Even Mike Wallace early in his career. He needs to be the example if the Steelers want to win a Super Bowl their best chances to do. So we'll be with Antonio Brown. Not without if the Steelers can go into the offseason knowing the Brown is on the team. He's in the right? His he is in there his right mental state and that he is one hundred percent bought into this team to this organization. I think they have very good chance of adding the pieces necessary around him offense and defense of -ly to be legit. Chitimia contenders. In the National Football League. If Brown pallets his way out of town. It's going to be a huge backwards in the waning years of Ben Rothlisberger career. So regardless of which side of the fence, you stand out they keep him. They trade him or release him under. I think everyone could understand the Steelers are way better with him then without him. So at this point, thank you for listening to the debut of the Steelers burning question now is when I say if you're watching live on YouTube good of the comments action, and let us know what you would do with Antonio Brown. Would you keep him? Would you cut him? Would you trade him? If you're watching liar listening on borrow behind the curtain dot com. Leave us note in the comments action. If you haven't found us on each you've you can buy searching on YouTube BTS's Steelers radio if you haven't found us on.

"Okay. So you're here the phone relegate. But for the Pittsburgh Steelers right now after at sixteen thirteen win toppled with a Cleveland Browns loss to the Baltimore Ravens who won the AFC north the song should pretty much be the eagles desperado. 'cause that's where the Berg Steelers are right now. But luckily. Jim Carey would say in a number of the nineteen ninety four heads. So you're still saying we've got a chance it's fourteen seven right now in Tennessee. No one knows if that's gonna hold up to be a tie. I pretty much doubt it, but you have got a big Steelers right now or in death for move. Hello once again, my friends and welcome to the Steelers hangover, I think all of us have that the banging and clanging or melons after after the win it still feels like a loss because of the way the season has come down. Especially what happened the hope that was happening in charm city in Baltimore, but turned out to be just a marauders as the Cleveland Browns and bigger Mayfield could not finish up the miracle to give us help. I'm Ryan Davis with me as always is by good friend. Anthony duffy. Oh. And we're here to talk about the Pittsburgh Steelers fortunes of the team, and basically sit here and just hoping that they could somehow make the playoffs but pretty much by the end of the show, we're probably going to have to face reality. What do you think Tony feel? Yeah. It's just I can't believe how the last six weeks ended. But. Oh, well, what are you going to they made your bed? No. That's why Brian. You've you've got Mike Tomlin said that last week. Yeah. They're definitely lying in it. We could point to so many things from this season. We wanna finger point and a lot of things there's a lot of blame to go around. You know that blame has gone around in two cities so far today and Tampa Bay and the New York Jets have both buyer coaches, so Todd Bowles and their cutter or or looking for jobs right now. But I pretty much don't think that's going to happen Pittsburgh. But I know a lot of you on the message boards and a lot of Yuki board warriors hiding behind your keyboards or calling for it.
