New Hampshire Legislator Calls to Rally Others to Run for Office
"And one of the things I did is Had enormous number of books as you can tell, and I went through them, and I tried to pick what I considered the most, uh Iconic and most powerful for them. On the left. And then, uh, take the sections that I thought were most important and then sort of narrow those down and then explain them. And then in the end of each chapter tied together, And then, of course, the end of the book say We got a rally Now. Do you see things changing at all? You know you're a state rep in New Hampshire. I don't think people are very happy with what's going on in this country. Do you? No, they're not. I see that people are absolutely rallying, usually after an election things quiet down, but we've had people getting involved staying involved going to town Council meetings. School board meetings. We had the Wyndham audits for those ballots that had been miscounted because of those folds and we see people that are involved every day here and we have some more opportunities for people to get involved. We actually have two special. We've already had two special elections where 400 person health. We have two more special elections scheduled and we might have another four. So there's opportunities for people to run and get involved and be involved both at the state level as well as next spring for their town cities or school board, So it's a really exciting time because there's so much momentum carrying over So many people that are still so involved, and I'm hoping that we can really keep moving this forward. Uh,
Texas State Rep. Senfronia Thompson Explains Why She Joined the Austin Walkout
"State representative cynthia thompson. Thank you so much. For coming to the podcast. Thank you for having me so at that. Press conference in virginia. You talked about your grandmother and the obstacles she faced when she got the chance to vote what were some of those obstacles. She added by poll tax and she yet to save our money. Nicholson pin is not quarters. You'd be able to purchase a poll tax. And then once she got up old tax she had a long ways to travel to cast that ballot. It was Transportation was nothing like being honest. This debate you had to wait for a bus to another part of the city. A pretty good distance from where she was in over fifteen miles. I'm pretty sure in order attacks. Her ballot and she was only allowed to vote in the general election because she was an african american being black. You couldn't vote in the primaries in texas. I wanted you to start with your grandmother. And i'm gonna do something that a gentleman are not supposed to do. We are not supposed to ask a woman her age that i think it's important for people to understand representative thompson. How old are you. I'm eighty two years old. And i needed people to hear that because the fact that you are talking about your grandmother and the obstacles she faced in voting in that the reason why you and i are talking now is about voting. This is not. This is not history. This is living memory for for you. I would love for you to put in context where we are right. Now as a country when it comes to voting rights we're regressing we regressing back to a place in history where we wanna limit minorities right to participate in that democracy just like. My grandmother was limited in her right to participate in democracy. We're going back to that same stage now so it looks like real just regressing.
Arizona State Rep. Jake Hoffman Says We Need People to Wake up in 2022
"A state income tax. The state has 4% unemployment. Everybody and their mother and their cousin Joey are moving down here. The place is flourishing. You can't even buy a darn house down here. You put a house on the market seven seconds later into house sells for twice the asking, All right. I'm obviously exaggerating a little bit. You can't find a car anywhere in South Florida because he caught me so hot. Everything sold out the place is booming. We Don't have a state income tax. How is it in a state like Arizona? These guys are getting away with this. How? How do they constantly get voted back into office, pushing this crap that they're entitled somehow to Arizona in state money. Look, we need more people to wake up. I mean, that's something you talk about all the time is we've got to wake our neighbors up. We've got to get people off the couch and into the game, And that's something that we need here. I think, Look, they're going to have a heck of a time. Come 2022. Because they have taken over these last two weeks. They've taken a ton of heat from the grassroots and everyday people, Independence Republicans, even the blue Dog Democrat. If you know the few that still exists, they've been taking a beating from those people. Now I have heard justice more. Morning within the last hour and a half that there is a rumor that there's a deal. And so that means that this week is going to be when the rubber meets the road with regards to the this historic tax cuts that we have the opportunity to do. We're gonna find out Do me a favor Guns. Do me a favor. We're talking to state wrap Jake Hoffman from the great State of Arizona. I need a favor. You need to keep me updated on this rumor because if we can't in places like Arizona Arizona. If we can't get Republicans to coalesce behind economic freedom, sound budgeting, economic prosperity and tax cuts, then this I'm sorry, but the movement is going to fall apart. We're not conserving anything. I'm really sorry, Jake. I got to run. I
Arizona State Rep. Jake Hoffman on the Political Gaming Against a Flat Tax
"Can we say that, too? I'm not sure the list of things we can't say maybe growing long, but I like that. I just did again. Producer Jim Jake. I like that about your an actual conservative. So this morning, I'm in the you know the home gym doing the little workout thing. It's Monday morning, getting ready for the show. I read this story in The Wall Street Journal. You are a state rep in Arizona and it's you know, still kind of a red state. We would think, right And I read this story about how some republicans Yeah, well, yeah, I used to go in a little blue, which I don't like how some State House Republicans in state senators in Arizona are getting in the way of a bill sponsored by, uh, you all in the statehouse. Implement a flat tax in Arizona to make them a little bit more competitive. Is that true? Or the Republicans getting in the way this because if it is, I'd be really ticked off. And it is true and it's you know, just like Americans. Arizonans are furious about the political games in D. C. This is the exact same situation we're experiencing, and it needs to serve as a wake up call for all Americans that our state legislatures, they matter. Here's the bottom line. Arizona is sitting on record revenues despite coming off the heels of Covid. Now having a multi billion dollar surplus isn't something to celebrate. It means we're overtaxing our citizens. Give them their money back. It's their money. It's not the government's and you know, you figure on the heels on the heels of covid, right? I mean, this is the worst economic disruption or one of the worst in the last 120 years. People are hurting. We've still got nearly 8% unemployment, small businesses got crushed real wage growth under the Biden administrations abhorrent policies. It's stagnant and I could go on man. But it's our job as America. First Republicans, you know, that's one of the biggest things that President Trump did other than his judicial nominations was reshaped the Republican mindset. We're the party of the people were the America first. Party, and so we have to put the people we represent first and give them their darn money back. It's exactly

What is your kind of response to. Ag healy listening to that clip. Yeah i mean. I i just wanna say i really appreciate admire. All the on people who came forward it takes a lot of agreed to step up and share something especially when the person who's harmed he was someone in such a powerful position like tino. wasn't still is So i think we really owe it to them that they were willing to stand up and speak their truth And yes to Moore heelys comments. I know she said that she hadn't heard any concerns. About tino or seeing these tweets before she made her endorsement. But if i you know like a sixteen year old girl who's much time on twitter was able to find the information. You'd think that you know. The political team of one of the most powerful politicians in the state would also do like some basic research before making an endorsement and see that there are really predatory concerning comments about women in this posts So i don't think there's any excuses making that endorsement The tweets that i shared back in december should have been a major red flag and it also just seems to be pretty. Common knowledge know based on my conversations with people in winthrop that the sky is not someone that you know. Young women wanna be around. He is known to have this sort of behavior. And i think that all politicians to do their due diligence before on making endorsement and mercury and joe kennedy. Don't get an exception yes. It's pretty shocking. I'd just if sixty year old. I'd say like if i know about it. So who basically walks dogs all week. I'm doing something else that i knew. All about it from cal from cala like everybody else like jim brown knew about it apparently So we also dinh-thanh here Definitely wanna bring up dan. Dan welcome to show. I used to be held speaker house bob. Delay of the sky. Valentino capital bianco. This came you're withdrawal of endorsement came after There were some allegations of sexual misconduct. That one of the tweets from calluses. Why'd you still endorse a capobianco. After became clear when he launched his campaign that is a history of sexist and predatory comments. I just looked up online. Some of these like here he is from thirteen is a tweet from him. I refused to ever be that creepy. Dude that randomly. She's a loss that starts grinding on a girl. What's so bad about that. I do it every weekend. You know about any of these tweets from two thousand thirteen twenty twenty twenty twelve twenty eleven when you originally endorsed Turn general oh no no not at all. I mean I announced endorsement was a week ago. I love my endorsement a week ago. And you know. After that endorsement there were people who came forward some routinely Than who alleged some troubling behavior By by chino and. i'm thankful to them for coming forward and sharing their stories. Remembering Boston's Pioneering State Representative, Doris Bunte
"Boston has lost another pioneering legend. Doris bundy died yesterday of cancer at her home. She was eighty-seven bundy was the first black woman elected to the state house of representatives and the first black woman to run the boston housing authority. She was also a mentor. And a friend to many including marie saint floor herself. A former massachusetts state representative now a principal at saint floor communications. Murray thanks for joining us. Welcome to radio boston. Good to be with you to you. Marie you lost a friend and mentor. I'm sorry for your loss. How are you. i'm i'm i'm fine. I think that all of us who are women who were legislators lost the an amazing mentor in an amazing leader today and You know we know comes but when it comes you really feel it and you have regrets that you've stayed as connected as you'd like to have stayed connected in so yeah it's it's a sad day but i'm happy to be able to celebrate her life and i thank her family for sharing her with us all these years. When did you first meet her. And can you tell us a little bit about door. Spongy so i have to tell you. I was eleven years old when i first saw a bar. Doris bundy on television. Now i'll explain. And i think she had just eventually just become state right back in the old days. You only had one. Tv in the house and so you are watching whatever your parents were watching at that time and you here was this woman who was going in to become a state representative in this in in massachusetts as she grew up right in audit. You know she. She had been living in orchard park. I went to saint patrick's so was right down the street. Rama where i went to school every day. There was a sub shop at dudley. That used to walk so you knew you knew the area. So he was this woman who was essentially you know in in places that you identified walked. Who is now going to be in the in the halls of power mistake and she was this tall she was poised in. That was my first introduction. On then i became a state rep and i became a state rep and what i love about her. I did not respond the as an adult. And she reached out on my. I remember when i was running. Decided to run for office. There were a number of people. I spoke with and she offered her wisdom. I remembered when life got rough in the legislature. And i needed questions in that was seeking direction. She's a person that you pick up the phone and you could talk to. And she would share her wisdom. That that's how i remember her. And then she modeled a lot of the things that i think some of us tried to do. I'm once we were in office. What kind of modeling murray. So for me. Dr is modeled. What it meant onto work across the divides weather. It's across racial lines She she she modeled. That i mean you saw that in her work in the legislature. You saw that in her work in the boston housing authority. She was willing to listen. I mean the leadership of the boston housing authority. While she was there was predominantly white. She was she had a clear vision about what she wanted to elevate the rights of people of color in that space but she again She would probably she would call them on formidable adversaries but she was up to the challenge and she was willing to sit listen and work through it one of the things. I never observed due to demonize. That's not was not her style. She was firm to knew what she wanted to go and she left the table always with the door open that i learned from her. I really did. I get this sense marie that she was really tough. Steely she came to boston. According to the globe in nineteen fifty-three three with ninety eight cents to her name at one point. She really locked horns with boston. Mayor kevin white when she was at the boston housing authority. He was a formidable opponent. And in the end through the courts. She won her dispute with him about her leadership at the boston housing authority. She helped integrate Boston public housing. Did you see her as a as a tough woman. And did she model that for other black women leaders coming up behind her as well to me she was. She was smart and she was donations. And what. I appreciate about her that she stood in her power so yeah kevin white could have had his point of view. She had hers two and she believes she was right and she acted on it. Issue was not boastful. She just acted in did what she believed So yeah i think she was a formidable opponent but she but she worked to build consensus so she was acting with the support of those on She was representing so. Unfortunately i you know. I you know a mayor while at the time did not respect that she was tough event. She'd smile. I mean. I remember for me. Remember a smile you know and particularly when she wanted to probe you on something further because she knew there was more there and you could see it so she. She's she's not she she. You might misjudge because you look at or height and you then you see that. She's a woman and it would be to your detriment if you misjudge the staleness of her character on our intellect in her tenacity

On one hand what most people I think really admire about for that he don't career as an independent socialist and it was only when he ran for president that he entered the Democratic Party I if if Bernie had been a democrat. His whole career he he may not have had the credibility he had when he launched his presidential race ao see. Some of these young war more Progressive Democrats definitely have some good policies. There's this common ground. More radical socialist like myself can work with them on but. Fundamentally, they believe in that the system can be reformed and. They belong to a party that ultimately is is controlled capitalists. The the democratic body will never allow. Any any programmatic aspect that challenges capitalist so While those you know some good reforms that could come from some of these progressives. "The legal program recently, the activist in the community in some of the Cannabis Control Commission started. Listening to the people and things are starting to get better in some respects. But. The whole thing was botched from the beginning because of the governor and the Speaker of the House they thought that they were smarter than what was voted in and they felt like they could rewrite it, make it more restrictive, which made it more expensive for patients, which made it more expensive for applicants, which made it only about rich people in the industry and not letting. The traditional market move legal. You know, it's not what we wanted. It's not locals out of state big money coming in. And this happens in so many industries in so many instances in this state of Massachusetts. In it's because of the speaker of the house, it's because of the people that support them, which are a lot of times. Or means mainstream mainstay Democrats that just vote whatever the party leader tells them to vote. Whatever the money tells them to vote whatever the interest thousand to vote. In and things like police reform are important I mean I'm all about police reform especially good police reform One of the things that I see you know we hear about defunding the police we hear a lot about the police show police accountability. I would like to see more police boards, local boards where you know every city town has a local citizen review panel of the police of they can hear complaints may have some power to actually take action against bad officers number one and things get more transparent and it's not just about the police chief protecting his force. You know it's it's about actually ensuring the police force is the best didn't local city in town, and that comes from the citizens I feel like I also, I'd like to see. that. They be there they're forced like there's there's no pro union like I said, you have cw fourteen forty five is supporting us. You mentioned earlier a lot of the fleece unions. They're the problem they're protecting bad police over and over again. So often, and so on supervisors. So aren't the police chiefs you see this over and over again. Right out my window I live in the incineration zone that's about to go online. There's been a big fight and to try to shut that down and that's part of the larger environmental movement. For a little town we got a, we got some some big issues going on. That gas thing is crazy I can't imagine living next to that that's got to be the talk of the town. Yeah and it's been they've been doing the blow downs the past couple of days. So there's been some some jarring noises weird things coming out of smokestacks over that. Yeah, it's been A. Long battle that looks like it's about to go live on The, the fight against Frat gas in fossil fuels continues. Yeah that's that's that's a big issue or all against. Really. Fight. So we're talking about a big gas pipeline thing, I don't know what the compressor station that they have in their setting up in weymouth. For Gas that's GonNa go to Massachusetts like Canada or something. It's. It's all for corporate profits to give a lot of money to Charlie Baker. It's not safe. We all know it's not safe than. I've been working a lot of mad money and just busy doing other things for once in my life. At in good and I'm glad to be back and we have more show coming up guarantee for you upcoming. Again we're. We're speaking of Massachusetts candidate for state REP ease in the Workers Party in the fourth Norfolk district. You gotta be on the ballot. You are the gathered the signatures so you're going to be on the ballot. For the November election, right? Yes. Awesome. So people get vote for you. In November when they vote for president. four Massachusetts state REP in Weymouth The couple precincts in weymouth that aren't in the district. You can look it up now if you're in a fourth Norfolk, you can definitely vote if you've James Murphy right now you know who is running against Nick is one of the people running against him for Massachusetts Day rap. and. My opinion, a lot of times these Democrats do need to be challenge over and Oregon. I don't care if it's third party Workers Party Green Party, Republican Party they actually have someone saying for once usually they don't usually get some crazy person or business person that just to business. They don't care about the people. But if there was someone good I'm I'm always take a look at them supportive because a Lotta Times. Brown, he was a state senator. It's it's pretty awful like that. Pretty much shows. You just don't care about voters. I. Mean that that was like a a landslide two to one victory with sixty, five, thirty, five or thirty point win. That's a mandate if there ever was one. So so this James Murphy he a Democrat I'm assuming where's he is he is a Democrat He's definitely on the right wing of the Democratic Party, which is a significant portion. Of the Democratic Party Massachusetts is a is a one party state or God was Charlie Baker the Democrats. Have a super majority and a lot of people around the country have lesions that you know Democrats. Really Liberal Saviors and they can have you know take over the whole country you know everything would be better. You'll. Massachusetts shows Democrats ain't so great when they're in charge. Especially, you know what I find it Massachusetts is there's different types of Democrats. You kind of mentioned it like certain parts of the State Cambridge Somerville Boston are very activist the Democrats. There are different than what you find in the suburbs in the more know places outside the one, twenty, eight Luke even or outside in certain areas of Massachusetts like red states in a lot of the Democrats are actually Republicans. They just can't run as they run as Democrats because that's the only way they can win in that conservative Democrats but in this race, I'm assuming as a Republican running as well as is there isn't a three person race yes. Aw Hall Rotunda A. His Bio, he talks about being a former CEO, also a business owner and. He's known around town is a collection of antique cars which is. Very relatable. Just. So what who drives an old Ford Ranger? It's you know he's He's. A fiscal conservative a lot of his talks about tax cuts. You know at least he doesn't seem to be like On the on the trump bandwagon so much he doesn't seem to be pushing that angle. Seems to be more of a typical Massachusetts low tax. Republican. Charlie Baker around Fall Republican. So In this three-party Race Joe, it's always a concern for me. You know in in this rates for be probably. Easy to just check the box for you because I know you're probably more aligned with my values. You're doing something that requires go see people I mean do you have a lot of concerns when you're out in the community right now with with know that you're going to catch it or sprint like how do you deal with that? So I said I have an autoimmune disorder sarcoidosis in it's in my lungs. So I'm super, vulnerable. So we're not, my campaign is not door knocking where we'll have events where we'll do like sans outs where practicing social distancing. We always have our hand sanitizer We're doing a lot of phone calls we had to resort to motor to reach folks rather than the door knocking because I couldn't believe on my conscious of God somebody got sick So it's tough, but it's also tough because you know what you're saying is basically like we're humans and. So that interaction you have with people. It's like we're we're zooming you and I were vibrating. Right. But if we were I'd be able to pick up on your energy. It's a little different. You know when you're talking to someone and so to not be able to do that with someone, it's just hard especially for me because I really want to build with people like I'm not a transactional type person I believe in transformational relational. So when I'm talking to folks at. Could talk to them moment my concerns but on the phone, it's just different. You know it's just it's just not the same. So it it just removes a certain. Element that that we took for granted before you I think about all the parties I didn't go to before and I'm like, Oh, I would love to go to a party now and so yeah, it just it just takes away the very human aspect of everything that I believe is fundamental to keep an happy. You know that building on on each other's energy but we're doing our best I must've seems to be really resonating. We're really excited to be able to to to lead my team is is amazing.
