Charlie Issues a Wake up Call With the Elections Just Weeks Away

"If you live in a state like Georgia or Arizona or Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, it's worth a kindly written email, but focused email asking your local officials if they are prepared to have the infrastructure and the personnel to be able to facilitate a massive red wave on election day. So for example, in Arizona, they do all this goofy stuff and Tyler Boyer from turning point action to such a great job of explaining it from the best of my knowledge, and he's educated me and Austin Smith, who's going to be a new state rep. In Arizona's educated me as well. And we have a lot of friends. Obviously, we're headquartered in Arizona. Is that they've got rid of precinct voting and it's now voting center and it's conceivable these voting centers, there's less of them, less places to go vote. It's conceivable that thousands and thousands and thousands and thousands of people are going to show up across the valley and they have to print ballots. They have to literally create ballots at the voting center to then facilitate the people that are showing up in record numbers, I do not trust the Arizona board of elections. I do not trust the Georgia board of elections. I do not trust the Pennsylvania board of elections. I don't trust any of these to be able to facilitate this massive red wave. And so someone emailed us freedom at Charlie Kirk dot com and they said, on election day, I'm bringing a fold up chair and staying as long as it takes. Good. But most people won't, and they're going to try to create a deterrent. They're going to try to create a backlog. They're going to try to create a traffic jam. They think they can stop the red wave if there's a traffic jam on election day. So two things need to be communicated. Number one, all of you that are listening that are planning to vote on election day plan to do nothing else. You just got a plan for 5 or 6 hours. If you get out in 20 minutes, praise God, you're the lucky one.

Chris Widener: Pushing for a State Law to Make Drag Shows 18+

"Yeah, who'd have thought it would happen in little old Chattanooga, but about three weeks ago we had a quote unquote family friendly drag show down at a place called the wander linger brewery and somebody caught some video of a girl that looked maybe 5, maybe 6 years old, literally for about 5 or 6 seconds, second stroking the genitals of one of these drag queens dressed up as a princess or a mermaid or something like that. Didn't no desire to push her away. No desire to move away. It just happened. And the most shocking thing about all this is that there's been no outrage from anybody in government. And so we decided to start a petition and we're going to try and pass a state law here in Tennessee, and we've gotten actually quite a bit of positive reinforcement from our state reps in our state senators. So we're interested in that and we're excited about the possibility of getting a state law to make them 18 and over in order to go to a drag show, which would cut them out of it would cut them out of parks and we could cut them out of schools that would cut them out of libraries and cut them out of any public place whatsoever. I'm curious, Chris, what sort of feedback are you getting from citizens there? Are you finding more people supporting this effort or more people taking the side of the drag queens? Oh, no, no, no, they're totally on our side. Because in fact, and I got to give a shout out to the LGBTQ community here in Chattanooga. There is a support from them because they recognize this is not for kids. This is adult behavior, just like it may not be a perfect analogy, but it's a pretty good analogy just like a strip club, right? You know, there are people that maybe don't like what goes on a strip club, but they realize there's a right to them and so they do them in their in their own clubs, but you don't allow 18 year olds. I mean, you don't allow young younger than 18 year old to be able to go to these things. So we're getting a lot of great support and most heartening is the fact that we've heard from a lot of politicians who said, run with that petition, get a lot of people because we really want to do something here in Tennessee and make it a state law. I'm curious

John Gibbs, one last night and defeated Peter Meyer, whose total snake lied to both of us. And we corrected that error by getting behind, John Gibbs, who defeated the impeachment voter Peter Meyer, and he joins us right now. John, congratulations, big victory last night. Thanks, Charlie. Thanks for having me on last time and this time. I appreciate it. And yeah, it was a pretty big victory. We knew we were always ahead. But I actually see it unfold before our eyes was pretty satisfying and really rewarding considering all the hard work we put in over the past many months. So it was really a great evening.

"The original way that it was actually sent to them representative. Jasmine crockett of texas has been guest against sister. Reply your courage in that or your colleagues in your freshman ninety says you might up in here. It got down to business. Let's be clear. They came to washington dc. That's not that easy because they have family mourns back home. Did you not been able to see several weeks. Some even got ill while they were in washington. Dc so this is not an easy thing to do with for those who have families. I mean you have fam- it. We all got family responsibilities. And you can't just lead family right and and you all did that for. The good of democracy should be routed for that saint humid. I i appreciate that. But i know how i got here with what i consider to be real sacrifices in so nothing that i've done over this theory short amount of time compeer here soon with those. That came before me right when i think about the fact that people die for you know me being away from home and he sees isn't really the end of the world because i know like i'm only twenty second. Black woman ever elected to the texas house. That means this very recent history like texas has the highest population of african americans in the country in. I am only number twenty two to ever be elected to the house. And so when i say that i know that somebody most likely gave their life for me to have opportunity needing away from home for a little over thirty days. Nothing and in knowing about the history of the civil rights movement overall understanding. There were boycotts lasted over three hundred days knowing. The tragedies that occurred on the pettus bridge. I just can't really think that i've done anything so great. I think that. I've only done a small fraction of what i was obligated to do with privilege that was bestowed upon me when i was allowed to be elected to represent the people of my district house. Issue one hundred dollars from the one hundred district number one hundred one hundred one hundred in the house district. One hundred they man. "Dc. I'm in dc was from other soldiers did just aren't about this team role. Life ends you not merely. I hope that my colleagues can prove me wrong in that they were smarter than i could ever hope to be. They saw some potential for something. Great that i somehow missed the boat on and i will absolutely be the first ones slipshod them or whatever it is that they accomplished. That is a positive in some way but are actually have seen this thing. Play out a couple of times. It never plays out to the benefit of black and brown people in the state of texas. But you know hey we can. We can only hope right now is because they've gone back. There now exists a core correct and they were able to pass some legislation that you all were fighting against correct absolutely so now that there's a forum they have just said the first calendar its vote on certain bills including of course number one. Which is jim crow. two point. Oh that is up to vote in on so just to be clear about warm is not perpetual it has to exist anytime that the house is trying to conduct business in so basically they got a quorum that allow them to go ahead and go forward with hearings within committees on various things. What's going to happen now. Is we have to see if they show up tomorrow so that they can go ahead and have this bill ram down their throats they can already count me out along with approximately at least another eleven. Other people actually is more than that. There's probably there's at least eleven more people that are nbc with me. So we'll we'll see what happens but sadly enough. I don't have high hopes for our colleagues just deciding to go ahead and sit out and killed his game so how much is needed for cormac. Because i want to be clear. How many of them went mic. And how many would need to go back out a year before this other vote to prevent the core was. What's the number difference. So here's the deal are numbers kinda funny so the house has a total of one hundred fifty seats storm is suppose if two thirds of the house we were told. I don't know that. I really agree with the reading of the constitution but we were told the now. A form is ninety. Nine only form is one hundred. We had one of my colleagues a freshman who ran in a special election for congressional seat in. He won so he vacated the seat we had another member vacated his seat because he was taking the job and so they said well now according is only ninety nine because we have two vacant seats. I don't think that that's the proper reading of the constitution. I think a hundred is the magic number. The let's just say it is somewhere between ninety nine and one hundred there are eighty three elected republicans that means that if we add you know sixteen to eighty three that gets them to their their magic number so technically all republicans plus approximately sixteen democrats is was needed for the buke rom so we are sixteen democrats. Obviously you would say there right now and now with these original sixteen. Were all of them with you anyway from the beginning now so ingrained democratic fashion. We'd never had all the democrats on the same page. Gotta love being a part of democratic party or not and so when we left so there a total of sixty seven dams in the house will now sixty six because one has resigned so with that we had ten dims that never left with us in the first place jabali subtle fifty seven that left with us of those fifty seven after we kill the bill during the special session the first special session. There were a total of about five of them. That went back in then. We ended up having another three. That went back to seal the deal. I i don't really have words. I just don't have words. I'm just i keep looking. And hoping that i'm just missing something really genuinely hoping that i'm just not as smart as these members in like. Hey like tcm the way right. When i look at the fact that the last three members that went back to give him form they happen to all be from harris. county harris. County was a specific target of this bill. They went after things. That here's county did and so i'm like okay. So they're targeting your other elected officials they are also directly targeting. Your constituents these three members come from historically minority sees though to his fantasies one black seat. They are all democratic seats sound. Like i don't really understand why you would go back. Why you of all people like the symbolic nature of it makes it that much more. Devastating is that you had literally harris county elected representatives seemingly turned on harris. County is interesting because they are participating in their own doing absolutely aren't they more 'em ip after this message. Remmy martin joins with international music star. And to be specific what in the bill would directly sectarian county. I don't remember. I read it. But i forgot yes. So here's the deal. Joined the panza make so many elected officials. We're trying to figure out. How can we make sure that people still have access to the ballot. Says clearly we needed to be able to express our feelings about trump good or right in so harris county did a couple of things harris county. The drive thru voting. Which essentially what they did. They expanded upon curbside voting. We have curbside boating. We had it forever for those. Say are handicaps right. But they don't want to do a mail in ballot. They can vote in their cars so we have machines that you can actually take out to the car in. Someone can vote within the comfort of their car instead of having to get out a wheelchair and potentially sit in a long line and that kind of stuff so what they did is they expanded curbside to just drive through in general where they happen machines available so that people could do it from the comfort of their fires but more importantly in the midst of dealing with the spread of kobe they wanted to minimize the potential spread of covert because people were standing around science vote. So this way you stay in the car and even if you were coded poverty. This wasn't option because you may not have time to send in vote by mail because you test positive site today in today's election day you can't send a vote by mail ballot at that late date so this gave them still an option to be able to vote within their car. Keeping them siphoned others safe as well so that was one of the things that they did. They also did twenty four hour. Voting harris county has the largest medical center in the country. So here it is. We've got these first responders that are working on the front lines to save lives. And so they obviously. I'm sure wanted to have a say so. In our elections considering the policies that were being handed down by elected governmental officials. They wanted to make sure that their voices were heard and some of them even say that they felt better about voting. Say during the non our because they didn't really know how much exposure they had to the virus because they were constantly fighting it so they didn't want to potentially risk other people being in danger because they've been fighting the virus they obviously wanted to vote in. They obviously should be allowed to vote. So they had twenty four hour voting. Those are things that they wanna make illegal. In addition to that there county judge approves the dollars to make sure that they could send out by mail applications to any in all qualified persons so by mail so minimize the number of people that felt like they needed to go in a cast their votes. Now they want to criminalize any elected official if they send out a vote by mail application to someone who's qualified. I mean is absolutely insane in in finally one of the other things that there was a big fight about specifically at a harris county. Was that there were multiple ballot by mail. Drop so instead of you having one location that you have to drop your ballot off to you could drop it off in multiple locations throughout the largest county in the country. The largest county in the state is xs. Instead of having one location they want to put it into law but you can only have one location to actually do. The ballot ops as well. All of these measures would set us back. You and your other colleagues. Because you're not you're not alone in washington dc President as though you are still subject to arrest. aren't you. now we're not once. Farm was made the warrants burrowing. Okay more 'em ip after this message. So how long you all planning to stay out. Definitely well know. These bills are gonna pass because the democrats decided they wanted to go sit there. I don't know. I don't know what their deciduous these bills are going to pass. Because that's what republicans do they will pass without amendment. They will pass without consideration. They will pass without logic so these bills will pass and therefore the governor will not continue to call special sessions on his what. I am calling white supremacy agenda so he won't continue to call special sessions on that and the next special session will deal with is going to be redistricting. We will see what happens. you know. Were only having a special session on that because our numbers came out late because of the panza may on so our numbers is supposed to be uploaded within our systems by september. One in so we'll start drawing our maps and things like that and we'll have to have a session on that especially since texas is supposed to gain too more congressional seats due the fact that we grew a lot and ninety five percent of that growth was will color. We'll see who gets those seats though you know they're going to trust them. Funny business with gerrymandering right absolutely. Yeah well so. What about the senate. Though these bills that could pass in the house. Do they have to go to the senate to so what what happened. Is the senate never bookworm. No it only took eleven. Am to do it. Instead of over fifty people he passed the senate in. They were sitting there waiting on the house to have a warm so that they could try to pass them. So tomorrow will be the first time though senate bills will be taken up on the house floor. So long as they passed the house floor without amendment. Nothing is changed. Then they'll go directly to the governor's desk probably argo going to be some federal legal challenges from these bills right. I mean attorney. General is suing justify maneuvres. Vasu enjoyed these bills. Make texas eligible for federal lawsuit. Don't they absolutely. I mean regardless of what was going to happen we were gonna fort. There was never a doubt about as long as a core. The reason that we were working so hard on federal legislation is because you can go to quote out once you got to be on the books so they use. You have something that you can say. See look governor here. This is against the law in. That's that's where we're lacking right now is we're lacking that kind of federal guidance so that we have something sue on you know sadly enough. It has to be spelled out. What does intentional discrimination look like or we were talking about. The original voting rights act on yesterday talking about that. In how throughout time we started talking about the discriminatory impacts the bills have instead of necessarily making one determine whether or not something is discriminatory intentional standpoint. Because that really is a heightened standard. You don't really care about what you intended to do it or not. Were really needs to care about is does it. Impact us in a different way are not and so right now with the voting rights at being good it federal law in praised so that when we go to court we can point the court sue legislation that they have to follow. And this was one of the reasons why it's important. John lewis zach was passed because we walked section. Four and section five have some Viz history with his history of discrimination there needs to be a formula for pre-clearance in texas is just such a state would also know texas hello purple and before long. It's gonna be blue service with atlantis. This an existential all reality sister we. We're very proud of you. I mean the quarrel. Ms air shall us really how much long you think you'll be motivated to be in dc. How much longer you runner. You're gonna wait this out because so the session that they have now with the core at us you said after this vote the session will conclude greg. Yes so you probably go back. You probably go back after that man right for redistricting because one of the reasons we definitely did not need to be present for the voting. Bill is number one. It's a it's a timing issue and let me be clear when say timing. Admission free clearance in. What that means is that once a law passes didn't they're not subject there. There is no subjugation to Voting rights acts right. So we really made this a big deal. I wanna plot the hard work of congresswoman sheila jackson-lee. She made sure that there was a look back in there. Because i was like one thing we don't need to happen is us the finally have these protections in place and they protect everyone but as in texas when we left to try to buy time to make sure that from a timeline standpoint. Nothing pass in texas before passing the feds. Now the good thing about the feds is that once it passes both chambers then it becomes law immediately so long as the president signs it in texas. There's a ninety day waiting period so we still kind of have a little bit of role to wiggle but not much renounced the wire let the congresswoman did at language that will provide for lookback. She also added language. That will prevent anybody from china. Arrest us in the future. This is something that we try to do. So i appreciate the congresswoman or really. Listen us in working with us to make sure that texas who was on the front lines of this fight in highlight how bad things are right now in the state legislatures that we wouldn't be left of the process. Now that doesn't mean that it would necessarily stand in the senate would a least the house version it pass. Those provisions are in there and we can only hope that the us senate number one passes the bill a number to pass it in undisturbed fashion.

"And one of the things I did is Had enormous number of books as you can tell, and I went through them, and I tried to pick what I considered the most, uh Iconic and most powerful for them. On the left. And then, uh, take the sections that I thought were most important and then sort of narrow those down and then explain them. And then in the end of each chapter tied together, And then, of course, the end of the book say We got a rally Now. Do you see things changing at all? You know you're a state rep in New Hampshire. I don't think people are very happy with what's going on in this country. Do you? No, they're not. I see that people are absolutely rallying, usually after an election things quiet down, but we've had people getting involved staying involved going to town Council meetings. School board meetings. We had the Wyndham audits for those ballots that had been miscounted because of those folds and we see people that are involved every day here and we have some more opportunities for people to get involved. We actually have two special. We've already had two special elections where 400 person health. We have two more special elections scheduled and we might have another four. So there's opportunities for people to run and get involved and be involved both at the state level as well as next spring for their town cities or school board, So it's a really exciting time because there's so much momentum carrying over So many people that are still so involved, and I'm hoping that we can really keep moving this forward. "State representative cynthia thompson. Thank you so much. For coming to the podcast. Thank you for having me so at that. Press conference in virginia. Now as a country when it comes to voting rights we're regressing we regressing back to a place in history where we wanna limit minorities right to participate in that democracy just like. "You know this vote. Count was seventy seven as the thirty eight knows in the house and and to be clear that means that some democrats actually voted for this bill. And so oh yeah. Oh yeah. I mean we have about. We like forty something done across. Florida house there are. There's always two to three that but with the conservatives because it gets them budget projects and things like that and he gets the with the governor so we even struggled to hold our own caucus together because we spoke to the the road. That's traveled right. Which is kind of like go-along-to-get-along versus challenge challenge in south co agenda. So so yeah. It's not it's not easy being cardi but it is necessary and worth it and i'm really proud to do it but it it just it speaks to the type of fights we have to have over bills that are not even going to be be implemented because a litigation right right. That's fascinating. I mean yeah. I mean obviously this is happening at all different stages of government you know across. The country has been really frustrating. How much you know the legislative aspect of everything has become you know. Culture war focused as opposed to actual problem solving focused. It's a major frustration. But it's interesting to hear how how it plays out specifically in florida on the irony too. Speaking of florida is the age breakdown of lawmakers tons to be older and i think the legislature especially the florida house is getting younger. I mean there's more even on the republican side. They're the newest class of freshmen. Republicans was a diversity of age. Definitely folks who are problem. Were familiar with social media. In general but candidly. There's a lot of folks who voted for this bill who don't know how to use facebook twitter or instagram. And so i play. You also have lawmakers that are voting on policies. They don't even know what it what it is. What is right and and so. That's super ironic too. Because now they're literally just voting for the agenda they don't even understand what the ramifications really are right. So in terms of this bill i mean. Do you have any sense of what happens next. I mean beyond just appealing is there. Is there like a process. I mean so. I assume it will be. It will be appealed but we'll see what the florida does but that would be the next natural expected. Step that this administration would take. Because it's so ironic. Whenever a judge doesn't rule in favor of the administration the referred to as activist judges but the judge day of coins are not activist. judges aghanistan super frustrating So i i would assume that appeal would take place and you know the da's have been stacked with conservative judges so we'll see what happens in florida But in the meantime you know the culture war doesn't go away and that's important for us to remember. Is that even when policy. You know is is is litigated and policies..

"And i think if you talk to thirty ends that are just working class people who are trying buffoon on the table and pay the bills on time you talked to those floridians and opportunities given to us to say like. Yeah this bill. This bill pass. What do you think about it. I feel like if given all the facts. They would agree that this is a waste of time At the at the same stroke though it depends on what media that. That person's taking in and i mean candidly. I was out in event in my district For the fourth of july holiday and run into a woman that doesn't live in my district. She lives in another county next door. We've helped her with unemployment benefits in my office has been championing unemployment benefits talk about a broken Website by the way. Like i wish they would hold the unemployment website the same standards as facebook and twitter. My god like please put your forces on connects not not this but anyways you know she was taking us 'cause we helped her get her benefits but she kept referencing this referring to me as providing stability like she. Thanks me for being stable. I mean she made a comment about how she feels like. Both sides are very extreme and she sees me and she considers me to be stable. And it's and i you know i'm i'm pretty leslie. Democrat like provoke on a lot of issues know that folks would often leave last progressive But at the same time. Like i'm very. I'm very like palm solver practical commonsense and i don't like scare people like i don't you know run towards a corner to get attention which is what the republicans are doing right now but it really stuck with me because i think that for many disciplinarians perhaps many americans. That's probably feel they. I think they feel that. Both sides are not relatable. Both sides are of picking fights that don't reflect their everyday realities because she just cared about getting benefits like. She has cheated away to pay her bills on time so then in the day. I think i think it's it's almost exploited when we continue running towards these culture wars versus like the actually everyday battles people are facing in their day-to-day lives. Which is why. I try really hard to you know. I'll swing my punches on the culture wars because you have to offer the response to this trash agenda but i also try not to get too into it because i have real legitimate problems i have to solve and i think there's some degree they as democrats we were. We find ourselves in this constant place of defense in florida. Which doesn't let us advance any type of proactive vision. So i'm constantly battling both right. I'm like i have to be ninja to these culture. Wars than also have to be like pushing forward. I'm getting benefits to people because if not why would you even support democrats when all. We do our fighting back against the majority party. So it's a it's it's a tough fight for us because we're we have to do both well all the time and it's hard to do that..

"A state income tax. The state has 4% unemployment. Everybody and their mother and their cousin Joey are moving down here. The place is flourishing. You can't even buy a darn house down here. You put a house on the market seven seconds later into house sells for twice the asking, All right. I'm obviously exaggerating a little bit. You can't find a car anywhere in South Florida because he caught me so hot. Everything sold out the place is booming. We Don't have a state income tax. How is it in a state like Arizona? These guys are getting away with this. How? How do they constantly get voted back into office, pushing this crap that they're entitled somehow to Arizona in state money. Look, we need more people to wake up. I mean, that's something you talk about all the time is we've got to wake our neighbors up. We've got to get people off the couch and into the game, And that's something that we need here. I think, Look, they're going to have a heck of a time. Come 2022. Because they have taken over these last two weeks. They've taken a ton of heat from the grassroots and everyday people, Independence Republicans, even the blue Dog Democrat. If you know the few that still exists, they've been taking a beating from those people. Now I have heard justice more. Morning within the last hour and a half that there is a rumor that there's a deal. And so that means that this week is going to be when the rubber meets the road with regards to the this historic tax cuts that we have the opportunity to do. We're gonna find out Do me a favor Guns. Do me a favor. We're talking to state wrap Jake Hoffman from the great State of Arizona. I need a favor. You need to keep me updated on this rumor because if we can't in places like Arizona Arizona. If we can't get Republicans to coalesce behind economic freedom, sound budgeting, economic prosperity and tax cuts, then this I'm sorry, but the movement is going to fall apart. "Can we say that, too? I'm not sure the list of things we can't say maybe growing long, but I like that. I just did again. Producer Jim Jake. I like that about your an actual conservative. So this morning, I'm in the you know the home gym doing the little workout thing. It's Monday morning, getting ready for the show. I read this story in The Wall Street Journal. You are a state rep in Arizona and it's you know, still kind of a red state. We would think, right And I read this story about how some republicans Yeah, well, yeah, I used to go in a little blue, which I don't like how some State House Republicans in state senators in Arizona are getting in the way of a bill sponsored by, uh, you all in the statehouse. Implement a flat tax in Arizona to make them a little bit more competitive. Is that true? Or the Republicans getting in the way this because if it is, I'd be really ticked off. And it is true and it's you know, just like Americans. Arizonans are furious about the political games in D. C. This is the exact same situation we're experiencing, and it needs to serve as a wake up call for all Americans that our state legislatures, they matter. Here's the bottom line. Arizona is sitting on record revenues despite coming off the heels of Covid. Now having a multi billion dollar surplus isn't something to celebrate. It means we're overtaxing our citizens. Give them their money back. It's their money. It's not the government's and you know, you figure on the heels on the heels of covid, right? I mean, this is the worst economic disruption or one of the worst in the last 120 years. People are hurting. We've still got nearly 8% unemployment, small businesses got crushed real wage growth under the Biden administrations abhorrent policies. It's stagnant and I could go on man. But it's our job as America. First Republicans, you know, that's one of the biggest things that President Trump did other than his judicial nominations was reshaped the Republican mindset. We're the party of the people were the America first. Party, and so we have to put the people we represent first and give them their darn money back. It's exactly

She's not a girl boss. She becomes a girl boss and then she says oh. I don't want to be the ultimate girl boss. And then she shuns girl boss life and then is like so kind of a girl boss after she grew but not much is why because when she goes to that interview at the very end. It's like okay. "This is like but it's bit it's especially. It's things that that should be kind of beyond money or we're going to talk about abortion rights or when you're talking about equal rights of any kind these are beezer kind of timeless concepts that are that are connected to worth of people not like worth of the american dollar But we. I think oftentimes conflate the idea of like you know kim kardashian made a billion dollars she's valuable she's worthy like these are the same thing and this is where i'm going to tell about the offer that i have available Please go to my website where you can buy my package for forty four nine thousand nine. Yeah i'll tell you more about this yet. We're raising awareness. We're raising awareness. It's empowering it's empowering. I kinda wanna like clothes on because we have to. We have to get to sanity corner. I kinda wanted to close the conversation by talking a little bit about what i think. might be. Another like irradiation of like the girl that. I've sort of noticed that i'm like oh no not this which has choreographed imperfection like staged imperfection. I've seen that a lot elissa. And it's like it's it's just stop. Stop okay do you want me to show you my legs. My socks with my birkenstocks now. Some legit imperfection but no it's the leg. It's the like being relatable and that's the other part also errands what you were saying. It's like when you see there. It's like being relatable to try to sell something again. It's usually in some sort of sponsored ad you know that may not itself be the sponsored ad but you're being drawn in to eventually get some sort of sponsored content that's like and this new vacuum helps me keep my house in order and so yeah. It's like trying to be relatable by having a couple of flaws that aren't too bad right. Yeah it's like the it's the it's the lake picture of yourself with like barely visible stretch marks and being like real. I'm brady and it's like looking. No you're you're a model like that. Congratulations on being proud of yourself. But like that's not really helping regular people very much. But i think the next thing is like Sort of member with jennifer lawrence in twenty fifteen. "The title had a hashtag before it and because in two thousand fourteen we're putting hashtags before things like on. Ironically which is another thing that has an age that well and full disclosure. I reviewed the book girl boss as part of this piece. I wrote for the new york times. And i really didn't like it but i felt like when i was reviewing it. I shouldn't say mean things. Because i didn't want to be a bad feminist. So that's a whole other thing so the girl boss brand took off beyond the book. There was a company that had podcast there is. tv show. That was made after the book and ran for a season. I think k cannon did the tv show is like legit a great screenwriter And after that the word girl boss kind of decoupled from its original source and became a catch all phrase for a particular type of successful woman sort of like A woman who carries an expensive bag and has an expensive haircut who works at a corner office like nobody would call malala. A girl boss of people would call sheryl sandberg girl boss. It's it's definite kind of Look and then. As the obama era closed trump era opened the girl boss label kind of fell out of favor. It went from being sort of like cute self anointed moniker to something that was like a catch all phrase for corporate feminism There's a website called reductions which we all know in love That once poked fun at it by publishing an article with the headline. My husband is such a boy boss which is just redux fantastic without one of their grades and since then girl boss language has been co opted by exploitation industries like multilevel marketing and kind of ridiculed as a neo liberal label. And now today if somebody called me a girl boss on social media i would be offended Secure and i'm going to start with you. Are you or have you ever been a girl boss. I don't think so Feels it feels like the answer is no. I have a lot of laundry sitting in my room. You know having cleaned for a while. I feel like a any version of the girl. Boss has a clean home. And i don't have that I'm curious like does like is mindy kaeling would mindy kaelin count as a girl boss. If you've just kicked ass and you're taking names like would averni count. I'm just thinking about people in entertainment. What about you know like shonda rhimes. Do they account as girl bosses. This was the question that i wanted to throw out to the team. Because i don't think about this very often I think it's more about being a capitalist than being like a certain race or ethnicity so like any somebody from any race or ethnicity can be a quote unquote girl boss. It's all about like being successful. I picture her carrying like a fancy bag. I picture her being somebody who Yes has a clean house Meghan what do you think of when you think of a a.

"You can name. And so. I think that that's the you know as the republicans are like socialism. Socialism it's like actually just the rest of the entire fucking world right and other problems that republicans have been freaking out about that that i don't think the mainstream media has connected. The dots enough on is the infrastructure. Bill has provision in it. That would theoretically make it more attractive for people to have families or possible for people to have families from over the last month. Republicans have been freaking out about the birth rate falling. Meanwhile they're trying to restrict immigration which would increase the number of workers providing attacks face. In the meantime they're trying to make life more difficult for parents Many many people are having fewer children than they want because of systemic problems in place like. I don't think we should try to like goose the birth rate by forcing people to have kids or convincing people to have kids. I'm talking about people who already want to have children or who want to have more children but who are deciding not to because of systemic obstacles in place for that so like two hundred twenty. Five billion dollars for child care in biden's proposed infrastructure plan. That would probably fucking you know that would help that. Two hundred billion dollars for free universal preschool would probably help probably help you know. There's there's one hundred nine billion dollars in there for two years of free community college Which fees fits into the education piece that would help young people get started like how how many people do know were like completely hamstrung by student loan payments that they were still making into their thirties and approaching their forties. Like i just finished paying mine off a couple years ago and that was only because after i turned thirty i started making more money so i was able to like race to the end. But if i hadn't had like a couple of good breaks in gotten a couple good jobs. I would still be paying them off and still be paying interest. I would still be paying interest which benefits nobody but financial institutions So i think like you know we can bitch about joe manchin being an annoying person who seems to be not that intelligent because he is dumb and he doesn't seem like he's a very smart man and it's gross. That one guy from west virginia can hold this up but like let's not lose sight of what is being held up. Its vis well. Are you somebody who could benefit from universal. Preschool for universal preschool. Do you know somebody who could like. Do you know somebody who provides child care who could who could benefit from From from aid to make their wages more livable like paid family and medical leave. Do you know anyone who could use that. Do you know. I like everyone. Yeah i can't even one could use that literally. Everyone could use that nutrition programs. I know a lot of who could use that. You know. it's it's like that. It's not like people in his state won't be helped by like so many of these bills which are just dithering right now Yeah i think you know. In the discussion of joe manchin and his desire to preserve the filibuster for question. Mark question mark question. Mark reasons and his desire to seek out. Bipartisan compromise for a question. Mark reasons Which to me kind of reads. Like if i were walking down the street by myself and somebody came up to me with a knife. And they're like. I'm gonna stab you and i was like me and then somebody showed up. Joe manchin showed up and they're like well can they just kind of stab you a little like. That's how i feel the republican party. Our party is to america right now. No you can't fuck and stab us a little. You're not gonna know stabbing. I don't know stabbing and you know what's really wild. Is that as you go through. And you read all of these interviews and see these interviews that joe mansions doing. I feel like chris. Wallace is kind of on our side. Like joe senator manchin. If you were to keep the idea that maybe you would vote to kill the filibuster. Wouldn't that give republicans an incentive to actually negotiate by taking it off the table haven't you empowered republicans to be obstructionist. Yes yes chris. Wallace is like help me help you. Yeah yeah and the thing. The thing is that like. I think a lot of problems with political coverage is that it's top down instead of bottom up so we're talking about like all of these wealthy old people. Totally insulated from the consequences of their actions having slapped fights on capitol hill and angling for book deals fox news contracts. When really what we should be talking about. Who are the people that are not being served by their inaction like what is the table like what in the infrastructure bill there are provisions that are designed specifically to make life easier for. Let's let's just pick up the the care piece of that for parents and for care providers and that is an urgent need for millions of people in this country and has been an urgent need for decades. And it's just getting worse. The longer nothing gets done the worse it is for the people who either provide care or who are responsible for finding care for people who are dependent on them and like. That's that's the that is the consequence here not mansions political career right and also not for nothing but in the in the care pieces of this. It's not like we're trying to catapult america to the number one spot in the world as like progressive caretaking economy. We're last in the world like we offer social like we offer fewer social safety nets than almost any country..

Remembering Boston's Pioneering State Representative, Doris Bunte

"Boston has lost another pioneering legend. Doris bundy died yesterday of cancer at her home. She was eighty-seven bundy was the first black woman elected to the state house of representatives and the first black woman to run the boston housing authority. She was also a mentor. And a friend to many including marie saint floor herself. A former massachusetts state representative now a principal at saint floor communications. Murray thanks for joining us. Welcome to radio boston. Good to be with you to you. Marie you lost a friend and mentor. I'm sorry for your loss. How are you. i'm i'm i'm fine. I think that all of us who are women who were legislators lost the an amazing mentor in an amazing leader today and You know we know comes but when it comes you really feel it and you have regrets that you've stayed as connected as you'd like to have stayed connected in so yeah it's it's a sad day but i'm happy to be able to celebrate her life and i thank her family for sharing her with us all these years. When did you first meet her. And can you tell us a little bit about door. Spongy so i have to tell you. I was eleven years old when i first saw a bar. Doris bundy on television. Now i'll explain. And i think she had just eventually just become state right back in the old days. You only had one. Tv in the house and so you are watching whatever your parents were watching at that time and you here was this woman who was going in to become a state representative in this in in massachusetts as she grew up right in audit. You know she. She had been living in orchard park. I went to saint patrick's so was right down the street. Rama where i went to school every day. There was a sub shop at dudley. That used to walk so you knew you knew the area. So he was this woman who was essentially you know in in places that you identified walked. Who is now going to be in the in the halls of power mistake and she was this tall she was poised in. That was my first introduction. On then i became a state rep and i became a state rep and what i love about her. I did not respond the as an adult. And she reached out on my. I remember when i was running. Decided to run for office. There were a number of people. I spoke with and she offered her wisdom. I remembered when life got rough in the legislature. And i needed questions in that was seeking direction. She's a person that you pick up the phone and you could talk to. And she would share her wisdom. That that's how i remember her. And then she modeled a lot of the things that i think some of us tried to do. I'm once we were in office. What kind of modeling murray. So for me. Dr is modeled. What it meant onto work across the divides weather. It's across racial lines She she she modeled. That i mean you saw that in her work in the legislature. You saw that in her work in the boston housing authority. She was willing to listen. I mean the leadership of the boston housing authority. While she was there was predominantly white. She was she had a clear vision about what she wanted to elevate the rights of people of color in that space but she again She would probably she would call them on formidable adversaries but she was up to the challenge and she was willing to sit listen and work through it one of the things. I never observed due to demonize. That's not was not her style. She was firm to knew what she wanted to go and she left the table always with the door open that i learned from her. I really did. I get this sense marie that she was really tough. Steely she came to boston. According to the globe in nineteen fifty-three three with ninety eight cents to her name at one point. She really locked horns with boston. Mayor kevin white when she was at the boston housing authority. He was a formidable opponent. And in the end through the courts. She won her dispute with him about her leadership at the boston housing authority. She helped integrate Boston public housing. Did you see her as a as a tough woman. And did she model that for other black women leaders coming up behind her as well to me she was. She was smart and she was donations. And what. I appreciate about her that she stood in her power so yeah kevin white could have had his point of view. She had hers two and she believes she was right and she acted on it. Issue was not boastful. She just acted in did what she believed So yeah i think she was a formidable opponent but she but she worked to build consensus so she was acting with the support of those on She was representing so. Unfortunately i you know. I you know a mayor while at the time did not respect that she was tough event. She'd smile. I mean. I remember for me. Remember a smile you know and particularly when she wanted to probe you on something further because she knew there was more there and you could see it so she. She's she's not she she. You might misjudge because you look at or height and you then you see that. She's a woman and it would be to your detriment if you misjudge the staleness of her character on our intellect in her tenacity

There was a Republican that was a state senator in a particular district. It's district to here in Arizona just a few years ago. Before years ago could sports is so It's not like it's that long, but they're I mean, some people who just got hardcore left the Democrats more organized. There's new leadership, the Pima County GOP. Hopefully, they can get stuff going and people are fired up now, man, they're fired up and ready to go more than ever before to make a difference. And I buy Oh, ple again. I mean, lt 11 guy. They're gonna have an open house on January. 28th a lot more details on Thursday about that, but you can contact the Arizona Legislative district 11 people just duck duck. Go them goes their website. They get back to you. But there is a state rep a Democrat. Wacko name, Roseanna. Go Bald on G A B A l D O N I'm gonna notice this. You want to know what's important to her? Don't know what's important to her. Making sure that when you go to get your driver's license That there is an option not for sex, but for gender so you can put Non binary Yes, Like these. The people I need to get voted out very quickly. Yes. She has changed it. This is SB 11 62. This is what she introduced it. It see gender driver's licenses, non operating identification. And it says here for the purposes of this subsection of the applicant chooses the applicants Gender as non binary. An affidavit that states that the applicant identifies as gender non binary and that the applicant signs to Mississippi Department is satisfactory Proof of the applicants. Gender You don't have to put male or female. She wants it so you could include and put down non binary As a description of your gender. On the Arizona driver's license or identification card if you don't get a driver's license That's the important that's what Democrats are working on. And then you have another Democrat. I was a state senator Randall Friese, a maniac. He's down here in Tucson also, and and he actually what has legislation he wants to push will go nowhere. But he wants to give what never, governments do. So whatever governors in there more emergency order power, not less. We're coming up. Don't go anywhere It is canIs T federal.
