Two new studies show how covert survivors fare following recovery from the disease, one from Oxford University in England and the other by the U. S National Cancer Institute. Suggests that people who recover from covert 19 can have immunity to the virus for up to six months boxes. Evan Brown America is listening to possible. Use radio 9 21 old 47 FM. Massey on Money is on the air and online visit Massey on money dot com. Glad to be here with Jeff Massey, the alliance for her lifetime Incomes protected Lifetime income study. It shows the number of households that have ah source of protected income, such as a pension or an annuity. It's on the rise, and that's a great thing. This study, though it also shows on Lee about a third of pre retirees of calculated their monthly expenses, their financial needs and retirement. It also says many are overestimating what their retirement savings will cover. And it goes on to point out that three out of four Americans still don't have a specific financial plan. So Jeff let's start with Why It's so important to figure out your monthly expenses before you retire. How do you approach that? Do we consider that the foundation of our plan because the plan has to have a outcome in mind inside. Oh, just grow our count as big as that can be. We need to know how much you need and to see if the money that we're working with is realistic to get there. So we have a very simple form that we have. We called the income Gap assessment. And it's It sounds fancy. It's not. We try to keep things very simple. And here it isn't in a nutshell. We don't need our form. But if you would like to get a copy of the income Gap assessment tool Sudan emailed info at Mass and associates calm and we'll be happy to email that up to you. And just kind of give you a rough overview of what it is. All we ask you to do is look at 12 of your monthly statements from your bank. The bank will total The dollar amounts of all the checks that you wrote that month. Now with you hand right Auto pay, you know, directed to be sent out at a certain time doesn't matter. It all falls under checks written for that month on my bank also includes any debit card usage in that same total, so I only need that one total. And we want people to do a 12 month cycle. That way. If you're paying anything on an annual ized basis, you'll catch it. Compared to let's say you just a January February march and then multiply times. Four. You might miss the manual payments, so we just You know how long it's gonna take you to add up 12 numbers. It's not that hard. And that shows you what your lifestyle expense is now, most people that we may with have no idea what that is. And every time I talked about this particular topic, I think back Many years ago at an engineer, and I said, Give me your best guess. What do you think it is? He said. Well, I think it's probably about 4000. So you know, he took the form home. He sent an E mail into the office and we looked at it, and his expenses he claimed were over $7000 a month. Now that's from an engineer. Now they're usually pretty good with numbers. So I was kind of taken aback by that. And then a couple days go by. He sent another e mail. He said. Oh, wait a minute. I forgot. We put in a swimming pool last year. So you know that was we'll take the house. Our expenses are about $6000. So even if it was netting out to 6000 he was office estimate by 50%. No, You can't make a plan that way. So we asked you to do is add up 12 numbers in your checking account or from your statements, and that gives us a rock solid number of how much you have spent over the prior 12 months. And from there we can then lay out a plan and say, Look, this is how we're going to build the plan. So that will take your expenses of today. Inflation, adjust them going forward. And we can show you a way to you either Create an income strain as we talked about in prior programs where you can be guaranteed a lifetime income. Backed up by the financial strength and claim spank ability of insurance company who pretty much owned that retirement planning market If you will. Indoor investments, and we blend those together so that you have a good sense of what it might look like in the future, and it all starts. The foundation, if you will is knowing what your expenses are. And most people can figure that out in about 10 or 15 minutes, So why not do that? You spend less time doing that and figure out where you're going for dinner on Saturday night? It's an easy thing to do. I like the sound of that sometimes deciding where we're going for dinner. Sometimes one of the most likely discussions. My husband and I have sure Yeah, you know, you know, I have. Ah, have a policy. I just turned to my honey. Sorry. Where do you want to go? Just easier, You know, and You know, I just find it a little easier that way, because to me, I'm not overly fussy Every now and then I'll pick a spot. But, you know, I just say, Where do you feel like going when they will go there? That's all. That's right. But put the ball back in her court like that approach. All right, So another key finding from the study we've been discussing today is that many people, Jeff Seemed to be overestimating what their retirement savings will cover. What should we do? How can we make sure that we're not making too many assumptions with how long our savings will last? Well, instead of just making assumptions, or like a gut feeling that you think you'll be okay. We have a very sophisticated high end software where we can put in Pretty much anything to do with your finances relative to car payments when they're going to end mortgage ones that that's going to get paid off. We do inflationary adjustments. We can do investment assumptions, and we put that all into the software. It's a very extensive software. And it uses a Monte Carlo assumption going forward, and that is simply where the computer randomly chooses rates of return for the market. Both good years bad years. And it will randomly select that from your current age out to age 90 or 95, or whatever age that we put in there for life expectancy, and it will do that. 1000 different times. And then we will get a report that says Here is your probability of success on a scale of 1 to 100. The system says If you're over 82%, you're okay. We like it to be 90 95% or better because we just want to make sure that we're going to be okay. That everything will work. Now, if we put the numbers in, and we have a very low probability of success, well, what that does is, it tells you that perhaps you need to make some changes. Either. You need to ramp up your savings until.

"According to an autopsy by the county, medical examiner, Nikki's death was a homicide caused by ligature strangulation and blunt force trauma. Shepherd two hundred and forty one. Including significant facial injuries, a fractured jaw, an injuries of the Genitalia suggestive of sexual assaults. They were listed as substantial repeated injuries. Dr ESCA rebel Ska listed to causes of death, and here's why quote, there are injuries inside and on the neck muscles that we haven't discussed. That are consistent with her being alive at the time of the ligature, being placed around her neck, so I know she was alive when that happened, but I also know she was alive at the time that the head injury occurred so I can't say which one of those happened first, and which one was the final one. Therefore, that's why they're both listed. Each of them is fatal in this environment. Dr Rogalski determined that the cord found on Doug's neighbor's lawn is consistent with the ligature marks on Nicky's neck. The Wisconsin State Crime Laboratory confirmed. There's they started by calling Dr Michael Spence a forensic DNA consultant. He reviewed the case file and he explained to the jury how trace amounts of DNA can be detected after direct and indirect contact. The defense asked him knowing that Michelle Marchinko attended a banquet at a hotel and was at a shopping mall in the night of her death. Would you expect to find other DNA on her clothing? I think I would expect to find a DNA from others on anybody's clothing As long as they've worn it for any amount of time and you can even have washed clothing clothing items that people have worn for. Let's say years and they're actually washed and dried and you test those for DNA and you can have a on those as well sometimes even the Washington Dry cleanings not gonNA remove all the DNA but if you're interacting with other people they're going to be instances such as the spittle that. I accidentally put on this microphone. Just talking to people you can get. Dna on their clothing from that doctor spent said DNA transfer events occur by touching other people if they talk around you if they leave DNA on an item and you come over and sit down next to it or on it. He said that based on scientific studies. He's read it's also possible to transfer DNA from items being bundled together. He noted that after the male DNA profile was located on the dress and gear shift in two thousand five. Investigators did not search other items in the car to see if those also contained male. Dna profiles the defense next asked about a tape lift from blood on the steering wheel versus of all as I understand there was a swabbing collected of that tape lift and the swabbing showed the positive blood tests similar to area five on the dress and so there was an indication of blood but the DNA. There was no DNA typing information that was interpreted will there with with Blind was present on that. Lift typically bowl. Dna of blood is an extremely rich source of DNA Within a single drop of blood you're going to have about four hundred thousand. Dna can containing cells So this is going to be very rich if if you have even one two thousand of a drop of blood if you can wrap your brain around. That didn't imagine that tiny amount that would still give you enough. Dna to get probably a full profile so it may have been that on that steering wheel tape lift. The blood might have been removed completely by the initial swab to do the presumptive tests. Has Accusers wanted to clear up? A key. Point of his testimony on cross examination. You have not gathered in your investigation. Any specific facts or any knowledge from the case file or from the proceedings. Show that a secondary transfer occurred from Jerry Burns. Dna to Michelle Martin. Go stress correct. No I have not And so you're not testified in this case that it's your opinion that the way Jerry Burns DNA got on. Her dress was through a secondary transfer. No I'm not testifying to that. The state called their own DNA expert. Paul Bush to refute the defense's case. Bush is a DNA analyst supervisor in the Iowa State Crime Laboratory he said that while it's possible for DNA to transfer from secondary source. He would need a scenario of that occurring to make any conclusion he said. It's more likely for a suspect. Dna to come onto the victim's clothing if there was a struggle and the assailant injured themselves. The judge prohibited him from giving his expert. Opinion as to how Jerry Burns. His blood was found on the items of evidence it could not be excluded if the DNA came from blood sweat saliva or semen ball based on the findings in this case. What is the most scientifically supported theory as to how a DNA profile consistent with that of Jerry Burns to a probability of less than one out of one hundred billion unrelated individuals would be expected to have the same profile? Found ADD F Five location that tested positive upon screening for the presence of blood. How that ended up on Michelle's dress. The defense objected to the form of this question but was overruled by the judge. The judge reminded the jury that they are the judges of the facts. It will be up to them to determine the facts of the case that they find credible in rendering a verdict. Bush said he used the information that the assailant likely cut himself. During the attack to form his opinion a likely explanation would be young that again that we had a single source. Excuse me a major male profile on that Staying five that a likely explanation would be that It would have come from blood again. I I want to reiterate that Our Laboratory did not test for any other biological fluids. In this case so did test for saliva did not test for skin cells which we can't anyhow do did not test for semen but Again based on the information that I have that would be a likely scenario as to how Mr Burns or a how that profile that match Mr Burns was detected on that stain? Five the state rested and preceded to closing arguments prosecutor. Nick Maybank's laid out how he believes. Jerry Burns attacked and killed Michelle Marchenko. He said he believes burns. Watched her leaving them all by herself and followed her. He put on gloves so as not to leave behind fingerprints. He said Burns would lament many years later that DNA wasn't a thing in nineteen seventy-nine Michelle got to her back door unlocked it and placed her shopping bag in the backseat drivers side. She got into the car and began to started unbeknownst to her. The killer was quickly approaching. He opened her car door leaving glove print on the handle. All of a sudden. The door opens the car. She sees a man there. The man attacks her strikes at the bottom of the handle of the knife in the head leaving a large bruise caused internal bleeding. She feels straight to her head and causes her back on the car seat. She's taken by surprise but she knows that she has to fight. Maybank's continued the assailants struggles. To hold her down on her back to get her to submit he realizes that she has seen him now. She continues to fight for her life her fear and terror intensifies but her adrenaline kicks in the attacker becomes more aggressive. He drives a knife into her chest. Not Once not twice but multiple times. He knows he must eliminate her. He has a wife a family and things he can't get caught. Her blood is flying everywhere. She's dying he realizes he has cut himself. He considers driving her vehicle to another location and starts the ignition. But he knows they'll be searching for her and can't be seen walking back to get his own car. He puts the car back into park and smears his DNA on the gearshift. When doing so he gets out of the front seat pushes the KNOB down locking it. The back door remains open. He leaves to go home to Manchester. And how is prosecutor? May being certain that Cherry Burns is the attacker.

"Talk. It is a Saturday morning update on WMA L. It is great to have you with us. I'm Rick Fowler. The opioid crisis is something we hear a lot about interesting statistic from the national safety council accidental deaths from opioids actually overtook deaths from car crashes and twenty seventeen we're joined by an Hamlin. She's the director of training and science dispose are ex there working with the DA the Drug Enforcement Administration participating in a health and wellness day coming up we'll give you some details on that before we finish up here this morning, and it's good to have you with us. Thank you very much for having me a lot of the accidental overdoses and deaths are not people who were just, you know, addicted to drugs, I it can happen in a number of different ways medications that maybe sitting around the house. That is correct Rick on what we know is there about over four billion prescriptions. Prescribing filled every year in the United States approximately a third of these go on news approximately fifty percent are destroyed leaving about six hundred million prescriptions in the household each year. And what that means is those unused drug can become an opportunity from issues and accidental poisonings. And that could be from anybody that could be from a child that could be from a teenager who is interested and curious in what those unused drugs can do. It could be from somebody who comes to service your home for one reason or another and St. those unused medications laying around. So it actually is an opportunity for exposure and harm in a variety of different ways. We're hearing a lot about the environmental impact of maybe flushing old medications down the drain of some people may be concerned. Learned about putting them in the trash and your company dispose are ex has a rather unique approach to dealing with unused an old medications. We absolutely do. We actually have an innovative technology for the proper disposal of medication at the home in the vial that your medication was dispensed. So it is extremely efficient. Extremely convenient for someone to get rid of their unused medication using the dispose are ex powder. Essentially, what that powder is a blend of material that provides for the proper disposal of unused or expired medication and through our technology when the medication water and the dispose are expounded are added to the prescription, vile and shake it the drugs are rendered unavailable. And unusable and can be thrown in your household trash. So in other words. If somebody were to dig through your trash and find the vile if you've used dispose Rx, it is basically neutralized and no longer dangerous. Absolutely. Yes. Well, I know if I were to look in the medicine cabinet at home. I'm sure I would find some old Tylenol and things like that from four or five years ago. So I would imagine many many people listening would have a similar issue of drugs that have expired maybe a prescription that you didn't need any longer. And you just left it in the medicine cabinet case, you thought you could need it again in the future. Tell us a little bit about the educational programs to try and get people to to just dispose of these meds. Right. Well, the third Friday April is national Kleenex your medicine cabinet day on and what we would recommend is that people participate that by looking through their medicine cabinet. Just what you referred to for any unused or expired prescription medication that they no longer feel. They. I need you can collect those in a bag and then bring them to the health and wellness expo on Saturday, April twenty seven at the sterling community Santer, and that is where we will be right next to the DA take-back location. You'll be able to drop off your unused or unwanted prescription. And if you are among the first five hundred to drop them off, you you will receive a free packet of dispose Rx for the next time that you've got on news medication. You'll be able to dispose of it right in your own home. Then you have a very interesting background in working in this field. I do I have thirty years that I actually worked with North Carolina State crime laboratory in their drug chemistry unit. I started out as an analyst we analyze the evidence that comes into the laboratory for the absence of presence of any controlled substances. And when I retired I retired as a friend excited manager. So my entire thirty year career. Was devoted to elicit drugs and pharmaceutical drugs on as an analyst and as a manager of the entire section. So my my job. Now dispose are gives me a different angle in working with the drug problem in our country today, certainly one where it provides me with so much education on the crisis going on which is very different from the side that I worked my thirty year career. Of course, we mentioned the packet the disposal expert, your website has a lot of information. Tell us about some of the resources that are available there. Sure. We certainly do. We've got some videos on the instructions for you than how to affectively us dispose Rx to properly dispose on news medication. We do have a podcast series of podcasts that we did on the opioid crisis as well as a number of other resources and articles. Talk about different aspects of the crisis going on in our country today, including the most recent build HR six that was signed by the president, which we the CEO of the company attended that signing wasn't fighted and attended that signing so there's lots of different resources at suppose are x dot com. That's D I S P O S E R, X dot com and Hamlin the director of training and science at this foes Rx. Thank you very much. We wish you the best of success again, the national clean out your medicine cabinet day this Friday,.
