Summerfest announces new three-weekend format for 2021

"New announcement. About what Summer fest 2021 is going to look like and we're joined right now. In the first Midwest Bank hotline by summer fest, CEO Don Smiley, Don. Good Afternoon. Good afternoon, Jeff. How are you? I am Well, thank you. Okay, Let's talk about the big news. What Summer fest. 2021 is going to look like and then we'll kind of explore why That decision was made, but so what? It's gonna look like Sure we're we're changing the festival format. The three weekends versus 11 days, so we'll start on June 24th and work 24 25 26. July, 123 and July 89 10. We will eliminate two Sundays, two Wednesdays and a Tuesday. That's five days. So what the essence of this is and and what we discovered through? Surveys and focus groups in in in in and data mining was that our customers want Mohr national bands. Earlier in the day. Can so We're going to take the expenses from those five days that I just gave to you and we're going to reallocate them to the weekends. Where will have local bands up early, but well, you you can picture a national band. Being on the Harley stage or the Miller stage at 5 P.m. and then another headliner at nine or 10 o'clock that evening, so it's an effort to go after more quality. Versus quantity and really fish. When the fish are biting, more people are more apt to be out on the weekends. Thursday, Friday Saturday with disposable income And And in using their energy entertainment dollars on those days versus the five days that I gave you, which, really when it came right down to it, they were really weak and that is W e a K. There were weak days for us, and we were spending a lot of money to produce those days and our money can be better spent in reallocating tow three weekends done. This is just in some ways respects. The logical progression in number means. Summer fest originally was always Thursday through Sunday, 11 days and a number of years ago. You made the decision. To to drop that first Monday because of a variety of things, including, I think week attendant, So this is really just kind of a logical progression of that I would imagine. It is. I mean, you know when you look at Theaters and restaurants and so on. I mean, you find a lot of businesses closed on Mondays. But when you're running a music festival The expenses are are are significant and Whatever you can. Maximize those dollars on different days. We concluded that that's the way to go. Even though it's too less days we're gonna have we're gonna have better bands and we're gonna have the bands that our customers our fans are looking for is still at a very affordable price. We're still gonna have free gated missions. We're still gonna have promotion days. We're still gonna have Children's fast day. It's such a It's such so none of that's going to change. We're just going to camp up. No pun intended thie the quality of the of the bands that we signed and on top of that on the fringes. If you will, pre summer fest in post summer fast, we're going to do a lot of shows in the American family insurance amphitheater in the beam, O'Hare's Pavilion will probably do more shows. And those two buildings that in the history of the festival So there's going to be a lot of activity in that building. It was too bad we couldn't use it the summer Ah, it turned out beautiful. And I'm referring to the reconstruction of the amphitheater. So and I know we're not alone there. I mean, you know everyone's hurting, and that includes sports and in restaurants and businesses alike. We understand that, but we had it. We have a scheduled board meeting this morning. We went through all of this. It was a unanimous decision. And so while we do understand that there are Maur. Important things going on in our world today and in people's lives have changed because of coded and also social unrest. This is just one of those things that we had to get out there and get on with it for the planning of 21, Don't just so I'm clear that this is not a one off plan for 2021. This is this is the plan for Summer fest moving forward is that correct? We'll see. I mean, I'm not going to sit here and tell you that You know that This is a perfect plan. And if if it works if all of the data That we considered in making this decision plays out. Well, then it will be a nine day festival going forward. I mean, you know who's to say that there isn't a show on Wednesday night prior to the opening Thursday, and who's to say this might turn into a 10 Day festival? I mean, you know, everything changed with Kobe. Everyone's life has changed their personal life, their social life. All businesses have been affected. And and and we're not on an island here, so we really believe that we have to be flexible. We have to be creative. We have to be able to pivot when when it's necessary, and that's exactly what we're doing. We lost $10.4 million in 2020. That's Before depreciation by not operating summer fest or any other shows down here or the ethnic festivals, So that's quite a mountain to climb. To try to make that money back and start replenishing our reserves again after we put $10 million of our own money into the amphitheatre, which was a $51 million project, so You know, I have, really, I really couldn't tell you what the future holds. I can tell you exactly what 21 is planned for, And if for some reason we run into a fork in the road In 21. Well, then we'll make a decision. At that time when you mentioned the ethnic festivals. Does this new schedule for summer fest proper, have any Will it have any impact on any of the ethnic festivals and they're scheduling No. The ethnic festivals would have the same dates as they would have had in 20 Got it. One of the other things in your announcement today for the nine days of summer fest. It looks like eight of the days are already booked for the amphitheater, and it looks like you've got just a a killer lineup coming there. I can give them to you if you're interested. Sure. Okay. On June 24 we have Khalid 25 is Luke Bryan 26 is Justin Bieber. July 1st Dave Matthews. The second is blank. 1 82. The third is Halsey. The eighth is Stapleton and the 10th his guns and roses. So we have one day to fill July 9th. Actually, it's filled but we can announce it. Yes, and we have some other shows sprinkled in around those dates. Already. So I think that's one of the things that people need to recognize as well and in part because of the partnership you have with with live nation now, the summer fest grounds. There's even outside the parameters of the run of summer fest that the summer fest grounds we're going to be utilized, probably more than ever in 2021 with big shows, right? Yes, sir. That was a great deal We did with the Frank Brothers, which is the live nation partner here in Wisconsin and That will provide more more shows more opportunities it required. Um, the reconstruction of the amphitheater. If we didn't do that, we wouldn't be any more shows And you know, there are some shows that we won't get there. Some shows that just play that, you know, they just want to play indoors and will will not get a shot of those. And There's plenty of venues in town for for those bands to play indoors and then and then we're going to get a shot at at bands that want to play amphitheaters. So we feel like we're in good shape. They're in and we're set up for the future, and I'm sure there's going to be some traditionalists who look at this and say, I really I really missed that Tuesday's show or I can't believe they're doing away with opening day Wednesday, but This is kind of a new reality that you're dealing with in a festival. Look, Let's just, you know, get this out of the way. I mean, we know we're not going to get all the votes and we know that there will be you know, there will be some that don't agree, but you know, we're going off a day out of I, You know, everyone's entitled to their own opinion. I love that. I think that's passion. That's like arguing who should hit second or third and play right field or second base. I mean, if they're not talking about you, I mean, then you really have a problem. So You know, everyone's entitled to their own opinion. We're just going on the facts. We know what our attendance is going back. Years. Um For Thursday, Friday Saturday and we know what kind of revenue we do on those days and we know exactly what the expenses are so for us to set this up. And get it ready for future generations and replenish our reserve funds. This is the move that we need to make. Got it done. Smiley Summer fest CEO. Thanks so much for spending some time with me this afternoon. I always appreciate it.

Of today, we're going to be discussing the defunding police movement an idea that has picked up steam recently has become a rallying cry for far left protesters, rioters and seemingly anarchist groups. And we wanted to put some thoughts out there about this It seems to me that. We have a problem that requires more of a solution than just defunding. Systemic racism in my opinion is Beth. now, some people would with that. That said. If the narrative that we're going to be that is being shoved down our throats is to be believe that people of Color of. All Ages? Seated shining see in this country are being quote hunted by racist armed hate-mongers. Now that said if if that is in fact, the case. Why would you wanNA define the one organization that has the legal authority in the equipment. To protect you. That seems like a pretty fall said, it seems like a false dichotomy false comparison a false premise to start conversation PHOENIX. What are your thoughts? You know I'm GonNa take this a step further. The phone, the police movement. That is going to move a certain direction and stop. Once, they have figured out that. The one entity. That has sworn upon their own life to defend. There's like. Is Actually doing the job. We. Look at Minneapolis looks. legit. Atlanta's for the three top of my head. All of them have the same premise of less defunding. On the police, define the police. It went a step further into. Let's abolish the police install a private. Very. Force. That has absolutely no training. As No understanding of each individual law that a grand jury a whatever. If. Going to try and paying on. A criminal, a offender, a day walker anybody. Whatever you WANNA call it. So. My name might taking this step further into the question is what exactly we're trying to de-fund. I. Do numerous other people and no. One can give me an answer. It's always just defined defunding. Okay. So Great. Now we have a narratives being Ramdan, our throat. When all in all actuality is, hey, let's just bringing this back to the wild west little set like men up. Yeah I mean that's exactly the way I. See it is if you're going to defend the police and define them then yeah. What we're GONNA have is is you know the your your proverbial gun show earth sugar your gunfight at high noon in the middle of the street. That said cryptic. What are your thoughts on the matter? While I mean if you go I, find that going to be very odd if they try and go wild west because you know the same group behind the protests in the defunding, the police are the same ones who want to raise taxes and have all these limitations on ammo and guns and everything else that. You're going to be able to do that. We're going to have to throw stones at each other. Because, they're going to keep trying to get rid of. Guns and AMMO. I mean. It's maximilian face with white gloves and We'll go back to sword fight fifth. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Because you know guns don't have near the range of a sword. A you know. That's an excellent point. I mean, they're they're trying to you know the presumptive destroyed comedy Slimy Joe. Biden. Has Basically announced that east common for the guns and they're going to basically raise taxes on firearms and ammunition to where they are completely unaffordable to anyone that's not in the billionaire boys You know that'd be that being said. How and how the me get to this point I mean you're you're talking about defunct not not obviously not us we think it's a crazy. Lunatics idea. What do they want to replace it with? I mean, let's let's be honest mental Minnesota in Minneapolis the same city council that saw fit to abolish the police department Arben has hired mercenaries for the private security force. Now. I see a far more disturbing outcome here boys, and that is that you know we have people acting with the fourth and backing of the law. And have no oath to uphold the constitution they're loyal only to money. That's a win win. If you're a leftist Marxist wants to light the constitution on fire because you have thugs running around at the under the color and force of law with automatic weapons. Now, if people think that trump is ending in in the army, what do you think's going to happen when we have quote unquote law enforcement that has no that are basically political puppets. Call that. KGB Custodio or exactly. Exactly. You'RE GONNA turn from. You know right now everybody's all up in. Arms with you know Military. Being, sent to Seattle and stuff like that like military forces or. Whatever that whatever they are that they're complaining about having martial law budget they wanNA with the funding this which are gonNA run into is you're actually GONNA run into mercenaries Latsis. You know either they're working for the buck or they think they're doing good by be judge jury and executioner for anybody they come across you know doing something they don't like because nobody can have their own opinion like and be civil about it. It's either you agree with me or you're wrong. that. You'RE GONNA run into all these fights and all these these vigilantes more or less that are going to sit there, and they're going to have guns and they're going to. Attack and kill innocent people just because they don't agree with what they think. About. Exactly. And like I said, that's a win win for Marxist politicians who have somehow seized power and now want want to run rampant over the constitutional whether we like it or not. I don't agree with with the with the with a lot of the things that bid the organization black lives matter stands for the organization to me is a self admitted Marxist. Violence approving organization now. I can't get kind the organization I. Don't think that any of US disagree the that black lives do matter just like every other. Form of life matters and regardless there everyone in this country is is is entitled to due process. I agree there's you know that there is race racism racism exists we we've seen. Plenty of it and I completely agree that that needs to go away. Of course, I'll ever. I do not believe that there is systematic I mean everybody. One way or another has the opportunity. And responsibility to themselves to. Get, the life that they want. Why agree that's? That's what that's what pursuit of happiness is all about. It's not the pursuit of joy quote unquote it was meant to the in that context as it context as written in the declaration of independence in the Constitution as pursuing your own circumstances. Working working to be what you want to be. I mean honestly I, you want to so defend the polices. The wrong way to go now do I think you know there are almost every state I can think of Over uses their budget. Or uses it incorrectly and find themselves up Shit Creek and some point now inside the funding the police. What should happen is that the police have you know? Better, I mean, honestly better training. Right I. Mean sometimes, you have the the. The police the Police Academy or whatever, and then you're thrown right out. You know on the beat with a superior or something like that, and obviously you being a fresh gumshoe sitting there dealing with somebody who's been on the force for a while you're learning from them. So you know if you get a bad cop as a superior, they're gonNA freak out because they don't know. To stop them, they don't know what to do. Because they're too worried about their job because there isn't training for that kind of thing. So I, I think that they need to revamp the training and they need to make every All officers that. that are serving should have to do. Something like a fresh training course or A. An up-to-date with all the changes that happen because we know societies like a computer, it's something it's out of date and six months. Air Every you know every year, every two years they have to get recertified training or something to that extent that just helps them. Update helps them mitigate the issues that they come across in a better way. You know take that. Then some of these God awful construction plans that they don't need to do like take Colorado's redoing stapleton. Oh God right spent millions of dollars. They're now you take that you invest in getting in creating another sub department doesn't the police but you get a another department that deals with you know Domestic domestic disturbances and. Family matters they can be counselors therapists whatever now they should have cops with them. You know in it is something that requires a police officer or Some sort of. Of Force or. Something that the police are trained for but I think some of these things like the people that do actually have mental health problems that. They you know they they don't have self-awareness were there at all they become crazy or something some of them would be able to. Diffuse the situation before a cop has to. Think that they're. Defending their life from somebody who's just acting rational because they just mentally aren't there. Well, that's the that's the real question is it is is that how how do we Do we define those situations because I'm going to get into a few things here after the after the break your boys and we will will continue on and I'm probably GonNa Piss a lot of the cops that I know off by some things going to get GonNa say so patriots stick with this year will be right back. Patriots is Paul sparking with a shameless plug for our New Year store. That's right. Midnight Patriots now offers t shirts, coffee mugs just about every other purchase where on your body the check it out go to shop midnight gatriways dot. com is way to both embrace your insomnia display your patriotism, and tell your governor to go himselves. So that Shop Dot Patriots Dot Com fifteen percent off right now for a limited time now back to the show. Okay. So as I mentioned in the previous segment, probably going to piss off a lot of cops that I know and I can't believe I'm actually going to say part of what I'm going to say. here in the Mile High Command. Center. We. Are. Unfortunately in the current being subjects of governor, jared police. Now I want to state unequivocally I. Have Zero problem that he is day openly that doesn't bother me a bit I don't care that he watches a different kind of porn than I do I don't care who he sleeps with. The guy's a timer. I gotta say I will criticize words do and I will give credit words do. Now, I'm not going to go over the whole article, but there was an article that recently appeared to the dead post about the some of the things that we were just talking about as a pretend to what I feel like our common sense police reforms. Now. I'm not GonNa Not GonNa read the article which but everybody can go look it up, Denver Post. dotcom can't believe I'm giving them pleader but. that. said. Cookie issues really stood up three sorry, three key issues really stood out for me in this legislation. Firstly that they're going to demilitarize a patrol police which I can't help but agree with okay If Your average ordinary citizen is not to not able to carry an AK47 or a ar fifteen around without being assaulted without being questioned by police than the police shouldn't have meter I don't have a problem with that and they said that the details are in the. Second. Is that. They have in fact. reinstituted or excuse me reduced. All immunity. Now, a lot of people may not know what qualified immunity is basically what allows cops to do what they do without any sort of fear of repercussion. So what? The Colorado Legislature has done is institute civilized ability for individual officers that are not accused but but found to be I don't WanNa say guilty but found responsible for the violation of an individual's civil civil liberties. And that liability is up to twenty five, thousand dollars per incident. Number three police are now held to the same standard that has gone on in corporate America in the private sector for. Decades You know we've all been through those work in the corporate world have all been through sexual harassment or bottomline harassment training okay. it's no stranger. It's that class that you have to. You have to guzzle coffee in and remain silent while world hold what sexual predators we are for. You know where we place our gaze to you know every other male male behavior that said as part of that training. What we're an abuse to is the idea of collusion what collusion means is that if you witnessed harassment or bullying or something that blatantly violates company policy or law. That if you don't come forward, report it and it's found out that you know about the new face, the same disciplinary measures as the offender. That includes that because liability Does your jobs. ETC etc.. and. This law requires that good cops deal with bad cops and report the. I don't see any of those three articles as a bad idea. Okay. Now, obviously being accused of something he's not the same as being guilty of it but. The at the very least, there is some sort of relief release mechanism or shooting relief mechanism there. To help solve the problem, a lot of people don't realize that the qualified immunity is not even really a statute. is a precedent put forward as. A. Means of fighting the drug war. which I won't get into that but that's complete total violation of the fourth minute. anyways. But it's part of a reduction of of constitutional liberties. that includes things like civil liability are shooting civil forfeiture asset forfeiture so Dumb any comments on that I mean I feel like those are good ways to actually start solving the problem as opposed to to complete quote defunding. are there issues with it certainly, but I think the mechanisms are in place to make it make closeable your thoughts. will allow me if I may. I'm going to step back, yours. You know maybe we can have social worker. With. Police escort as such. They, have. Like that in place in every department. The key of it is. There so understaffed that they cannot take on the type of workload that. A METRO AREA DENVER A. Atlanta Baltimore Mineapolis. They don't have the resources for that and. If I may be so fold. We have politicians in place in offers that hey, you can get by on a two hundred, fifty thousand dollars budget for the year for that program alone. It doesn't work like that well, then and to your point directly wouldn't that justify an increase in the overall police budget to put people like that in place as opposed to defunding will again you've gotta remember you're dealing with politicians that they can get it in their pocket. It's all just a day for them. Absolutely I agree with that cryptic your thoughts. Well, yeah and I mean that's kind of where I was going is that you know not defunding the police but. They need to instead of defunding them they need to add funds to them because to make those kinds of programs or to hire more people that they can. Do that they pay them. I mean. You know I know cops were scared life every day dealing with any of those situations I mean. In a sense, you need to pay the the therapist or the counseling or whoever those people are you need to pay them. A. In, a in a matter of speaking pay wage worth their life. Oh, absolutely I mean everybody got to eat. We all agree with that concept but job comes with certain wrists that they shouldn't be naive to. When walking into the situation I mean agree or disagree.

What Next-gen Console Feature Is Most Important to You?

"What's up? Everybody welcome Digesting Games. Muros Daemon Hatfield joining this week. Is Tina Amini. We switch seeds. Okay and Jefferson Davis goop now. I'm all messed up and Betty and we've got a great show for this week. Big Show show so much talk about Next Gen console features. We're GONNA talk about a new mortal Kombat collection. But I sam is something you'd like to share. I don't know if I have something that I'd like to share. Keep hearing every week on game scoop that if you turn on recurring segment your final fantasy seven game and hit a button. It tells you where the heck to go. I'm just going around here in this game. There's no door anywhere I know what the heck to do. So what's the tip it on the original game you would hit select. But I don't know what he's pursue I think now there's a little arrow on my guy and then it highlights exits isn't there we'll be era. I don't have have to believe we say bleeping You can't even you know it's so blurry that's fine inside okay. Well we believe you. I'm we're glad that you can finally are you in disc to navigate around. This is why you wanted to switch to or not. There's so many things going on. This is very helpful. Thanks everybody nobody we did it and thanks for nothing game scoop we told you twice. Yeah well until somebody tweeted at me I remember see. There's a thing that happens is called game scoop and show Amnesia and everything we talk about on the show. I at least don't remember we just scout right after this. That's the thing with some off with the version of it. I get is people like tweet me some some funny quote or something that they like from the show and then I'm like what's that and they're like you said it my. I don't have any memory of that. What happens with that too is that it's usually something that I said when they say that to you and you're like I definitely remember saying that I'm like I said all right? Let's get into it. Let's get into it next. Gen Consoles cels their top of mind with everyone. Everyone's excited about him. I like him Your for them. Yeah you think they should happen. Has Several of them at home. How he doesn't they were action? Our friends over at Games Industry Biz ran a survey of eight thousand gamers aged eleven to sixty four across Germany Spain and France and Italy asking them what next Gen console feature is most important to you to the people that took the survey. And we've we rent service similar GM. But I thought this is interesting. It's a pretty good sample size. Eight thousand people in the in in Europe. What do you think is the most the most wanted next? Gen Console Feature Agra compatibility roller. It's not I think that was our whole the result when we were in that poll on our homepage also We Will Dan Stapleton random feature around how backward compatibility is basically the trend for next Gen. It's become the standard was subscription options service on there. That was not on there. It's gotta be no it's gotta be like power it was it was better graft who can forget better graphics there's the fullest hold on. No no I just think it's amazing that people could look at AAA Games today and be like insistent. I just can't can't we can't get here fast. No but you gotTA gotTa War. No but look. That's the kind of quote in like ten years gets brought backup like think about. Ps Three Games compared to now and like there's probably some from games give two thousand eleven. We like Video Games canton. Don't look at Asai said before era is why we need games to look better than this and I I mean they came. Looks Amazing still. There's handles on like a big part of it is like frame rate right right. So it's like maybe in level of detail and quality to your earlier point maybe we've picked out a little bit like the. PS three xbox one the big debates where like the relief relief finite amount of differentiation between graphical fidelity. So maybe that's just a carryover. Yeah well better. Graphics was far and away the most desired next Gen console feature feature in this survey the only other feature to get anywhere close to that level of consensus was shorter load times Eight K. Resolution was less important than motion motion controls backwards compatibility and ability to play physical games so they want better graphics but AK resolution they. Yeah uh-huh deprioritization. Just means you have to buy another expensive television. I don't even have a fourteen. TV At motion controls were important to forty nine percent of all survey gamers and fifty ninety seven percent of console gamers. That's weird really a new over that I thought so too must controllers like the playstation four controller that have slightly augmented motion controls. Charles like those are almost entirely abandoned. Now there's like an spiderman it had a little bit of that but like it's never it's never used anymore. It's really funny to go back and play like older like like when that was a newer thing and launch. PS Four Games. I think it's uncharted for where it's like. You shake the controller to throw the grenade and they have the They always added balance. Beams in every game. Amy Add balance. Meet Him. Yeah didn't need that. But you know you gotta have the controller valid on it Backwards compatibility what's important to forty eight percent of all surveyed gamers and fifty nine percent of the the console crowd and playing physical Games was important to forty seven percent. Surge surveyed gamers fifty eight percent of console. Gamers the situation for backwards compatibility where when when it was taken out of consoles a lot the reason ing was always like we have data and nobody uses it or it's actually it's only the parents correct career. It's a selling point for the parents. Oh they'll get to use all their old games. Okay I can justify the or for a kid to say that to the point that it is such a Trojan horse thing. I don't think a lot of people keep their collections. Enes and Dipak in they. Just don't because we're on Vega cops. I've talked about this on skip before but the backwards compatibility on xbox xbox live ecosystem is such an underrated. Did it's so incredible like those games the fact that you're not booting into some separate weird. Og xbox or xbox three sixty interface. It's like those games are just there and you can buy them and play them like you can buy symphony of the night on Xbox one it's like you're sx. I bought sx three. I just had a desire to play it ten dollars. It was installed and played. It was all beautiful like cool. My Hat's off to them for that. You can donate your former councils who need those anymore. Yeah I'd I just I just do it. A normal person does and they're just sitting under arrest office like this you can just bring them in and put them under your desk. Yeah that's my new under the bed. Yep to just hide it. They're just storage. Now Y- true I was just. I was stunned by how different. These poll results are from from what we would find if we surveyed the audience I think graphics is that it's been that that's been the Super Nintendo. It just sounds so funny to me more pretty better graphics wchs load times like are they really. That long like both Sony and Microsoft are talking about load times and demoing them and then it was. It pulled second here behind graphics. Yeah exactly bullets. It's because they've been talking about them. It's almost like a marketing trick. I I would assume but it. It's dependent on the game in terms of times. Yeah Control was pretty insane. I mean I play mostly I have the choice. I play most P. C.'s. So maybe I'm not I don't know how long. ps four times are for a typical game. These days The lowest priority features were virtual. You'll reality compatibility and hand-held motivational. Sorry Nintendo. Yeah it's cool that after you know I guess seventy years of area or so of video games existing. We're finally solving load time. It's been a while I like. We got through all that stuff though graphics will we're we're still tweaking. I understand that's an ongoing issue. We're almost done with graphics load to previous generations. But but we're GONNA fix ex- load times. That was just low on the list for a while. Low Times weren't a problem. At the beginning. It became a problem two decades. That's true except for like fifty four stuff like that but yeah pc gaming what about when you're waiting in line editor came to play a game time. You didn't put your quarter down Yup and then you gotta

A better wife or a husband or or your better behaved children? You know? It doesn't matter. What you how good you are somebody out? There's always better at some aspect of their lives. And where you really find peace where I found peace in my life is recognizing where am I? And where do I wanna go and then being satisfied with the movement in that direction of being better today than I was yesterday? I've a my slogan is just be better. What wherever you are right now be better, and it's it's constant diligent improvement. And that's really what you're talking about is be satisfied that you can walk away with your head up knowing you gave everything that you had. And maybe it was enough today. And maybe it wasn't. But you gave a hundred percent of it, and you're happy because you know, you're gonna live without any regret. And what's so sad is especially with this day and age and social media and. You know, the conversations I have with our student athletes about them wanting to be like, so and so usually Kardashian, and what's sad isn't them wanting to be like them. What's really sad to me is the energy the spending trying to be like somebody else is taking away from them developing into who they really can be. And you hit the nail on the head. My definition of success is every year when we get through with the national championships. I want to be able to walk away with no regrets. And if I can do that we've had a successful year. That's amazing. Having worked with as many coaches with as many kids as you have do you have a set of things that you look for that kind of tell you this this girl really has she's she's going to do. Well, not just her physical how well she does physically and how skilled she has also her the mentally the way she looked. I can look at entrepreneurs that way guys who were starting to start businesses, and I can tell just by the way, they talk and by the effort that they're expending with the likelihood that they're going to be successful because of worked with enough of them. Do you what are some of those that you would identify people say this is what it takes to really operate at the top in any in any field. Well, obviously, you have in my line of work. We have to recruit talent and coach wooden always used to say you can't win without talent. And so you've got a look at that first, but very closely to that when I look for young. Athletes to recruit I love observing how they treat their coaches how they treat their fellow teammates. How they're how they're acting when they're waiting to go up on the event. Are they tuned out are they or are they in the mine are they still in the focus are they taking it seriously? Are they going through their mental game, and you can tell the athletes one of our coaches Jordan waiver? She's a two thousand twelve gold medal Olympia. And I remember when I was recruiting her going, Jim she was thirteen fourteen years old and every moment she was not up on the equipment. She was on the floor in her own little zone and going through her mental choreography, and you could see her body twitching little bit this way in that way. And she did that every single time before she went back up on the event. So if she went up on beam, and then did a skill and fell she'd get write that down, and she wouldn't get back up until she had her mental game dialed in again..

"Welcome back. This is Jason Stapleton program. Broadcasting here again from Culver city at beautiful Westwood One studios. It's actually not that pretty, but it's it's a studio, and you know, you can hear my melodious voice sounds really good behind this microphone, and I'm so glad that you're joining us. I hope you liked the show yesterday. If you did because I had mad in here. And that's pretty decent guy and pretty good ho co host. I think and been looking for somebody for a long time. And I want to know what you think about his role. Now, maybe maybe listen to a couple of episodes before you, send me a note on it unless you really loved yesterday's episode. But just I'm looking for subject matter stuff. I'm looking more about for interaction, and how we kind of worked together, and and keep in mind that Matt and I have never done a show together. So it's not like Darren when Darren was doing the show with me. He and I had worked together for five years before. Where he ever came in. And did a show with me. So there was already a dynamic there and friendship, but anyway, no doubt, Matt and I can establish that over time as well. But I kind of liked having somebody to bounce ideas off, and I hope you did too. Now four today. What are we going to be discussing? We've got I've got a very important economic. I don't know if it's a principle. But but I this actually came from the private Facebook group. Somebody was asking a question, you know, the minimum wage increases in Seattle one of the first places that to increase the minimum wage to fifteen dollars an hour. And everyone said myself included that this was going to hurt the people that it was designed to help. And that we shouldn't do it. And there was a report that came out a study that came out that said the same thing going to have a very negative impact. Well, now, they've produced a second study that now that they've had some data, and they are clarifying and presenting some facts of what actually happened after the minimum wage took. Effect and people are using this and claiming that they're flip flip-flopping that they've reversed themselves, and so it really didn't hurt the minimum wage. It really didn't hurt workers at all. And oh, this just goes to show that we could raise the minimum wage, and we we are not going to hurt workers. In fact, we're gonna help them and the those the people who want to support that notion are out there. Proclaiming victory on this minimum wage argument in minimum wage battle. Now what I wanna do is. I want to tell you the truth, and I actually looked at the article, and I looked at the paper looked at what the authors of set about it and the truth is that the data may still be flawed because there are always questions anytime. One of these studies is done that O'Dowd. How did they come at their numbers? And is that reasonable and realistic? There's plenty of ways to take it apart. I just wanna show you what it is that they produced in what evidence they have to show for it. And and kind of walk you through why this is. Anything but a good thing for the for for low wage workers, and we'll talk about that here as the show unfolds. In addition, we have what does it take to be part of the top one percent in the world..

"And. All right, welcome back. Everybody. This is the Jason Stapleton program. We start today a bad day. It's one of those rare instances where I come behind the Mike von were started early in the morning. I went through my my normal morning routine air road in my book. As you guys know, did my did my gratitude and my future casting did my my light names for the day, and then I got busy working on that kind of stuff had to go get a small check for the car today and went to get the smog check for the car. And of course I had, I just had the wheel changed in some in the car checked out because tags and taxes are going to do on it soon. I'm gonna have to pay another Bill and so I went out there and to the government of all peoples went out there to get the smog test because they're going to require that. I do that because of my vehicle and and I go there and it turns out that poor guy, the nicest guy in the world is smog just supposed to. Fifteen minutes. I pull up brings a car in. He comes back and he goes, did you just have some workday speaks like really broken English? He's like, do you just have some work done on the car? And that's why in for you know, checkup and oil change that kind of stuff. He's a well, you know, he goes you. He said they disconnect the battery and I said, oh, what is it reconnected? He's like, oh, yes is fine. But he said, when they re disconnected the battery, he said it zeroed out all of the information inside the computer. So he said, what I need you to do is I need you to go and drive the car for one hundred to two hundred miles and then bring it back in. So the computer can reset. And I said, are you serious? I do. I live in Los Angeles. Do you have any idea how long it's going to take to drive a car? Two hundred miles in the city. And he's like, I know. I'm so sorry. There wasn't as false. I wasn't like mad at him. I'm like, are you for real? He's, I guess the only way that the computer will reset. It's the only way that you can buy the. State will not allow me to sign off on this car until you've done this and he's like, just just getting the car is like just drive for like an hour one way, and then our back and you should be good, bring it back in and he's like, we'll, we'll take care of you. And I'm just like it's so government yet. Again, can't make it easy on. He's like they just passed this law like three years ago, and I'm like, I'm sure there's old team among these out there. Passing laws that make my life miserable justifies their existence. And he's like, yeah, basically, like it was just the nicest guy. I was the, it's a, it's just this guy was just fantastic. I would recommend to anybody. Of course. I don't remember his name or the name of the place or by would give plug to it, but. You know then prior to that, I was kind of scrolling through and I went on the private Facebook group and I started trolling around and somebody made mention like anybody kinda stopped listening to the show since the cavenaugh thing kicked off and instantly I don't understand who this type of person is. I actually don't even know who posted. I read some of that. Some of the.

"And. Hey, welcome back. Is the Jason Stapleton program? I'm so sorry, body sore. I, I don't know. I've just recently started going back to the Jim. I've had to do this because I'm almost forty years old, and if I don't, I'm gonna become really fat and nasty and either that or I'm gonna waste away to nothing because I sit behind a computer all day, reading news events and prepping for prepping for the show. And so I'm I'm a little discount a little concern so to speak. And so I was trying to figure out what I was going to do, but you have to understand that a looney was in the marines. And I did a lot of like high speed, low drag stuff in there. I'm like extremely lazy, and I always find excuses why I can't go and work out. And when I start going once I'm three or four weeks and it's fine, but getting started is almost impossible. And so I am. I am like a. I am Jim. I'm a Jim's best friend because I will get this the membership and I will stay there will I will keep that membership for years and I will never go like I remember the last gym membership I had before. The one I just got is was at lifetime fitness, and I kept the sixty five dollars a month. The only thing I ever did there was went to sit in the sauna. That was the only thing I ever did. I would literally show up and it was. It was on my way to the office and on my way home to drive by every single day twice and still during that time only went to sit in this on. I just I have always an excuse is always something else I could do. So I have my ninety eagles. I don't know how you guys do goal planning and goal setting, but I do it in like ninety days sprints Nestle. I'm in my ninety days sprint in one of the things I wanna do over the next ninety days is put on fifteen pounds of lean muscle. Now that is a tall order because you really the most that you can expect to put on a in in a best case. Scenario is healthy is about two pounds of lean muscle week, and that's right. I mean, that's that's not. That's not easy to do it all. So you're talking about a significant amount of of anchors of fifteen. That's twelve weeks and I want I'm basically wanting to put on about a pound of muscle a week is what I'm going to try and do some trying to figure out how to do this. Right? So I I'm looking around for Jim and I know a couple of things I know that it has to be like convenient, so I cannot drive out of my way to go to the gym, especially in Los Angeles because it takes you a half an hour to go anywhere in Los and literally anywhere in Los Angeles. It'll take you half hour to get there. So I know that if it's not convenient and it's not on the way to someplace, I'm going frequently that I'm not gonna do it. And the second thing that I know is that it's got to be cheap because I'm not going to spend a whole lot of money on this thing. All I need is I just need some basic weights that I can do. So because I'm doing the calisthenics now, the push ups in the flutter kicks and all of that stuff. You know stuff. You learn in the marines, and that's keeping me in pretty good shape, but I wanna take it to the next level and eat some weight training, but I need like simple, wait stuff. I don't need a whole bunch of garbage. So I go online. I find LA fitness and LA fitness, not only has.

"Hey welcome back everybody was the jason stapleton program broadcasting from deep behind enemy lines here in sunny southern california it's actually really really nice being here i i gotta tell you i got no complaints that sunny all the time is beautiful of course i have complaints but nobody cares nobody cares about your problem jason they really don't welcome back everybody is the first time you're listening to the show thank you so very much for joining us today i am very glad that you're here as we we discuss politics and economics on the show but hopefully in a way that doesn't suck let's entertaining and inspiring and enlightening that it hopefully we'll get you thinking even if you don't agree with everything that we talk about here on the show i don't like talking into a vacuum number one so although you made listen to a lot of other shows there are very pointed in terms of trying to attract a specific kind of audience the kind of audience that i want to attract are open minded people who are willing to look at a variety of options with which to solve the many many problems that we have in society today i don't want to feel like i'm preaching to the choir so if you are have you don't agree with me please feel free to come back and listen please feel free to tell me that you don't of don't agree with me because that's what makes the world around that's will as we know that i'm talking to the right group of people if all i'm getting her budget did o heads a bunch of yes men who are calling me up and sending notes telling me how awesome i'm doing then that's that's that's not accomplishing the goal of of increasing the knowledge and and the and the message of liberty now if you're one of those people tens of thousands of you by the way who listen to the show every day many of whom send me all those wonderful things at me tell you my eagle does appreciated and so please don't stop because that means i get all people don't understand how much negatively there is when you do something like this anything in the public eye anytime.

"This one i'm recommending to you so go check amounts guilsher dot com fords i stapleton ninety nine make sure you use that ford slash stapleton 99 so they know you came from me all right here we go let's talk a little bit about illegal immigration illegal registration for voting this is something else that came out of california this is i'm i'm not reading california news because i moved out here i'm just reading it because it's been in the news and this is a this is a valuable story for you guys in in discussing kind of a middle of the road view on uh on a topic that most people find polarizing so let me read a little the two beginning april fool's day the state of california is going to be forced to comply with his court order to begin automatically registering to vote all those who have been granted driver's licenses now i see no problem with this at all you have a right as an american citizen devote its each it is a right under the constitution for you to be able to vote so if you're an american citizen what is the what is the issue with them registering you to vote when you get your driver's license the seems natural me at the y would you not meet i'll have to show up to vote but at least eur registered to vote and you're already getting a driver's license so as not as though the state doesn't know you are if you wanted to keep yourself completely off the grid you of course wouldn't have the driver's license either but there's no reason that you shouldn't connect the two and make it simpler for people to register and make it easier for them to vote that's completely natural for me the problem is in california the state has been providing driver's licenses to anybody who claims to be a citizen without any proof so you have a lot of illegal immigrants in this in the state who've been issued driver's licenses who will automatically be registered to vote just because there they have a driver's license now this of course we have a huge problem with why because constitutionally if you are not a citizen of this country you don't have the right to vote you don't get.

"We'll hello everybody in welcome back this is the jason stapleton program i have my coffee here i have three hours of sleep and i am ready to talk some politics and economics with you i hope that you guys had a wonderful day yesterday and it has been booed just been a breaking train wreck around here i i him running around with it like a chicken with my head cut off trying to figure out exactly what it is that the balance of this year is going to look like and trying to get my schedule together and i'm recording content on top of that because i've got gotta this this training it's coming out for the for the investing and trading stuff i've also got the stuff we're doing for podcast domination that's coming early next year fingers crossed and i've got all the stuff that's happening with the show it is it it's busy around here on top of that i get kids and i gotta life and a it's it's just one thing after level let's let's today i want to talk about the old about the bill i guess a it's the budget that the congress is pushing right a senate is pushing right now and tell you a little bit about what's going on i had some time to research it and to bring up the highlight the specifics for you and i'm i'm i'm always interested to hear what these what these guys thinking what they say about the stuff that they're peddling because most of the stuff that congress pedals is total absolute garbage most of the time when they're talking to you and they're telling you all this is going to be a great bill and all is all his incredible stop that senate and what wait until you see it now we're can't show to you yet but wait till you see it it's going to be excellent and the majority of the time they are either grossly grossly overvaluing what it is that they're bringing to the table or they're just flat out not being honest with you about what it is that they are doing.
