People love Harry dean Stanton. I didn't know there was one. Oh, there is. I mean, amongst a certain group of movie buffs, he's like whether it's in alien is what the engineers or whether it's here. I even milius says, Harry dean Stanton, how can you do any better than Harry? He's a compelling guy. Yeah. You know? I mean, compelling people in film. I mean, it's a thing. It's important to have that and underrated people. People like to support people who are underrated, I think. Okay. That makes sense. That makes sense. And what's interesting about that scene in particular, this is not a dialog heavy film. No. And it's not like esoteric language. It's not sophisticated, you know, reams of dialog. It's not these poetry of Shakespeare. These very simple lines. Yes. But very powerful. And everyone in this film is very sincere.

"About the performances. What stands out to you, great names, Tom skerritt, seriously underutilized actor, the breakout moment for Ripley, yaphet, dean Stanton, on and on and on. What kind of stands out for you, Chris? You know what's interesting is the first part of the film, you believe that Tom scared the captain of the nostromo. He's the hero. Yeah, right. He's the hero. He's the one in charge. He's the real badass. He's the tough one. He's the strong one. If anybody's going to kill this alien, it's going to be him, right? And then he dies. And you're like, well, crap, you know, what are we going to do now? And I don't think Ripley was a particularly likeable character at the beginning of the movie. She was a rule. She was by the book. She was, you know, unsympathetic. Yeah, yeah, and you know what was great about that is they didn't make her the tough character. They made her a weaker character and making her a woman was actually kind of lucky because I read that they didn't they had originally written a man, but spocks had been casting women in lead roles in a few projects and they thought, oh, this is kind of trendy now. We'll make it a woman. And I think that vulnerability, like there's moments when she's just bawling, crying. Freaking out. Shaking. Yeah, shaking. And she really turned the performance into a much more feminine character. Through the use of her performance. And sold it. I believe that this character, you know, I wouldn't have guessed it was written as a man. Unless unless I knew that. And we'll walk through the scenes, but at the end, when she is surprised by the alien, she thinks has been blown up. I mean, that fear when she's getting on the spacesuit, it is palpable. It's real. It comes through the screen.

"The yankees eight hundred eleven. To six hundred sixty one tampa is second in the majors and the yankees are nineteenth. The big reason for the offense of disparity in my view is double plays the yankees have hit into the second most in baseball with one hundred forty six the nationals have one hundred forty eight. The raise by contrast have hit into the least double plays with sixty seven. This an approach issue or the roster construction would love you guys to discuss that because the rays far less money are getting the job done in these stats. Do not lie. I think this is a bit of a strange stat for the yankees this year. The g- the double plays because traditionally they're not hitting the ball on the ground that much. They're they're usually. They're more launch angle but this year a lot of their guys have hit the on the ground more like even stains hit the ball on the ground. More judges at the ball in the ground. More gary gary was the only guy who wasn't hitting the ball on the ground more and we talked about lemay hugh. He's still hitting the ground the same clip but it was the hard the hard contact on the ground. That was down so the his balls are not finding holes anymore as frequently. Yeah that could be a a hip or midsection issue. When you're not being being able to generate power or even three gallo who was apparently immune to double plays before joining the yankees grand into a handful with the yankees. Yeah so i. I do think that when you look back at this year and you see those numbers of for plays one. It's it's it's absolutely critical stat. Because that means that we're runs on and when you when you have the disparity of the the run differential and you see how many outs were taken off their Runners were taking the board with two outs. Two outs double plays then. Yeah that's a big deal. That is a big deal that will lead to a lot less runs. They haven't been first of all. I guess i just thought something talking. If there's an approach different and launch angle launch the ball up the air and the type of baseball i love which is more gap. The gap has there is earned adjustment. There have been a little bit of an adjustment and we saw an extreme of the adjustment. Where guys we're trying to love lot. They're swing a little bit and instead of ending gap gap we just saw over corrections and more ground balls Too many grow balls because the last month. I don't have the numbers in front of me. How many double plays they fit into. Doesn't feel like they fit into a mind-numbing amount of double plays feels like they've been hitting a lot more gaps and a lot more of a lot. More line drives Well aaron boone did famously save good teams hit into a lot the place but Yeah i mean i would. I guess just from the tests that they're the frequency at which they hit a double places decreased but they're still hitting into a fair amount of the place. Get a lot of baserunners. Still walk a lot and i think i think also they take the most pitchers of anybody in that category. They have a lot of right handed hitters. Who are not the fastest down the line. So they're going to get into a fair amount of double place. I think that's just the roster. I think this approach and ross. The answer to the question is both. It's it's approach and roster construction. I also think that the beginning of this year the first half of this year when the offense was just not you couldn't you couldn't explain why they're about as they were you. There was nothing to explain it. There was nothing there to explain it. That that's part of this. This this'll team was not heading for a long time. we could. We could shit on aaron boone. I feel the wildcard game is really making the playoffs and lose and have no real changes made this off season or would you rather than miss. The playoffs and have real changes made to the team and coaching staff. I rather the latter. Because i can't stand to manage the team another season dude as clueless. Well i think they're going to make the playoffs at this point. I think if they missed the playoffs it would be the latest in an epic collapse of season. Not ruling it out. However i think at this point six games to go you are to up on the second wildcard. Can't fuck that up But we're about to play them when you're about to play them. All three of those balls are caught in an ninety nine percent of the time back. Didn't know where he was on the field. He doesn't understand when dirt starts. You get much closer to the fence. Also that plant the line. He had no business getting out or throwing the runner out. I mean it was. It was beautiful. Cora made that pitching change by doing the things he did. He was sacrificing shaw to get to the bullpen. Were where he saw that they had the to Lefties up in the pen at the time so core made. That decision was not boone. Core made that decision and boom just went along with it to me. You gotta take you gotta keep klay homes in their forget the splits look at. What's in front of you understand that this man was on a different planet right then the the movement on the ball buster only the broadcast last night came out of absolutely nowhere with the squeaky voice. Did you see the the movement on that ball out of absolutely nowhere. Where i felt like we hadn't heard from him in two innings and then all of a sudden zahn guess and he but they replayed the the kitchen. Yeah it looks like a wiffle ball. I mean the ball ran back in on on whoever was up the hands and it was nasty. The guy the guy had some stupid movement. So i would have definitely stayed with him. It worked out is fine. It is what it is but these are the things that if everyone kept rita situation and and identify what being that moment. Yeah meals like the right thing. That was just massive massively clutch. The man was massively clutch all weekend. The two he hit the the grand slam it was more towards center. Feels left center hitting it over everything unless centerfield away park is a frequent bomb. 'cause it's like three seventy five to that part of the wall and then it's the another thirty eight feet in the air. Plus all the stands and everything that thing. That is a missile. Yeah well i mean that was that that was part of the mentality i think. Trevor bauer and i just don't think that the yankees they clearly i mean they. They prioritize different things and and they they clearly said luxury. Tax threshold is a priority. We're not gonna get into this one year deb bidding more trevor bauer because that's essentially what it came down to. So how does this does. This change your. It's difficult because the nationally but does this change your your championship expectations for the yankees. Because you could make arguments that the best teams in baseball are now in the national league. The dodgers in the padres. I don't think the padres are as well rounded of a team. I mean they know the show but they still have to show it but they got a hell of a lot better this season and the dodging the reigning champs and they added the best free agent pitcher. If you're looking at the at the two teams on paper who the basser. It's it's the dodgers and the yankees to me still but the dodgers gotta help and yet they got better they got deeper in in the rotation. Which is you know. I mean you look at that rotation in the regular season and it's scary now now translate that to the postseason and should you got to almost two aces per game that you could deploy. If you really wanted to like legitimately could do that that you could have two two starting pitchers in game one and game two ready to go and not miss a beat. So it's pretty scary. What they could do they still have to go through a whole bunch to get to the world series. So it's kinda one of these I'm glad there in the national league. Worry about it when it when it happens if it happens but those are the dodgers yankees is to me the overwhelming favourite for the world series. That's been circling the drain for for five seasons. Now i want us. It's really. i wish it happened before. The dodgers had won a world series. But i still wanted to happen. I think it's what you have if it happens coming up in two thousand twenty one. I'm really happy it didn't happen. Twenty twenty because that would have fake it would fell fake so If if it happens. I hope it's played at dodger stadium and at yankee stadium and there can be at least twenty thousand people there and it can feel real. Even if i'm not there. I can feel watching tv. I can feel some juice. I felt no juice in the postseason last year. And you scott that That wasn't enough for you. The the the the gnome. Because i know. I know it's fake. I i liked forgot. I forgot about it at times. I i'm not gonna lie like a thomson like oh yeah. It does sound like stadium. Sounds sounds pretty real until you see a foul ball and like the fake. The fake the fake like excitement is what got me dependent on the play like. That's where you lost. Me is the fake excitement or the fake upset. You upset -ness of a of a stadium like that. They did not do other. Dj was off at that point. The hum- like the the beat was alright. The but but then when like when they dropped to the To to win any action happened. It was it lost me. It's like when you catch a it's like when you catch a singer lip synching. Yeah moment. Looks real feels real. Sounds real. Nope so it's I thought baseball got hurt from a tv perspective more than any other sport because football basketball and hockey were able to hide they were basically. Just you're disabled of focus on the field itself and you kind of take the crowd out of it but baseball. The stands are integral part of almost every every pitch. Because you see it behind the and then anytime a balls hit you see you see the backdrop. Yeah so from a visual standpoint. You're reminded almost every minute that there's no one there whereas football you going entire quarter and you never see the stands in the you never think twice about it sure. Yeah no i agree. I think it's it's different animal. I'm all when you look at what happened last year. All sports were affected Based on the viewership numbers so everybody was down. There was a reason people weren't going there. It felt different for all of them. You know looking And watching it there just wasn't the same buying for fans i think you know. I think a lot of the casual fans fell off. And that's that's where you see the numbers dipping. So he's going to change this. You think that's going to come back. I think it'll be bumped up for sure. I think i think last year. Even if it's similar circumstances the fact that last year happened and we all went through it to me will just make things a little bit more normal. It's not going to be as new. Obviously and people will get back to. I think people are yearning really really really yearning to get back to routines normal routines not not fake twenty twenty routines but like actual routines that they enjoy or or things that are that feel like normal life. So yeah. I think the That level of of yearning for normalcy is is very strong right now. Bauer was the last big shoe to drop. But they're still ton of unsigned free agents out there and and guys that are some are at the end of their careers. Some i think could still definitely contribute. But some i think could be had for pretty cheap Some names like mitch. Moreland marwin gonzalez jonathan vr. Justin justin turner. I know is been talking with the dodgers. I don't know he's not going to be cheap either yet. Brett gardner obviously jackie bradley. Jr. josh radic. Yadi is on the list. But i think did he end up signing with back with the cardinals. I saw a report that they're very close on a on a deal to bring him back even if he has an just assume it's going to happen. there's some rotation options like jayco rizzi. James paxton towel walker richhill. Unable sanchez. i find the most interesting list to be the bullpen. Because i think some of these guys could be had for under the yankees luxury tax N guys that. I think could contribute. Trevor rosenthal mark mellon. Shane green Justin wilson all. Those guys are ex yankees brezler in the band. Back brandon kit. Like some of these pitchers do you. Don't you think it would be worth it for a couple of million bucks to add. Another veteran bullpen option. Yeah i think it's possible that they do that. I think they're going to wait and see how the guy shake out a little bit. I also a name on here. That's like relatively interesting. His splits is a a nick marquess who could platoon in an apple but again a lefty bat of looking at splits from last year and he actually did worse against a random pitching then. He did lefthanded pitching. but again. kinda throwing that. You're in some cases. I went back and looked at twenty nine hundred out when it's convenient when i when i want it to be something different. I look back at two thousand nineteen which the full season and i know. It's hard to. It's hard to go back on. Guys like marquess just because he's getting older and older every year so it's it doesn't mean as much when you start looking back At at full years because he's still a year older and you never know when that cliff is going to happen has happened so but if you look at two thousand nineteen hundred numbers. Marcus certainly gave you the the splits that you'd expect Was a lot stronger against a random pitching which i still believe is something that the yankees could could could use especially towards the end of the season so if a guy like marquess like the guy would not surprise me midseason trade deadline timeframe and around that area like he was still there adding a guy like that about like that would not surprise me for the yankees getting into the postseason..
