So how does Asia look setting up? And sing index futures are down about 8 tenths of a percent big gains yesterday 2.4% or more consolidation perhaps there. The hang seng tech index was up 4.7%. I ran the numbers. Listen, this index is up 46% from the lows in March, 46%. "Kerry Price is halfway through. Now at age, thirty-three just turned thirty-three like last month at his current state. He's only halfway through making 10 and 1/2 million dollars a year off. Good for him, he's got what he's got the bag but also you can't fire a guy after they take you to the Stanley Cup finals. I mean it's just horrible Optics know it's just but it's tough especially now because with covid-19 up with what that's done for League salary cap. We don't know what that's going to be. He's got a, a full no-movement Clause through him being thirty-eight years old making 10 and 1/2 million dollars a year, which is a substantial number, but some point to pull them down, it may not be now, but, I mean, it might be now like, and that's and it's tough to say that off of them during the Stanley Cup. Like, it's weird. Sounds weird. To say, I understand that well, he might next year though. But at some point, you're going to need some more guys. Really this roster is not enough and when he's making 15% of your Jeep hit. It's problematic. Yeah, it's an albatross of a contract I think. I think we could very likely see it only get worse and again 38 years old is what they're paying him. You compared to juice, press got the Cowboys quarterback in the NFL, has the guy who's very good, but you still need to get him help. And I would argue these massively overpaid. It's, it's a guy who despite his value clearly, he's obviously, if you overpay a really good player, you can't give them help. Therefore, you can't win as much. I mean, you do still crippled your team, even if he's a good player. Yeah they've sent a couple of bad contracts. They they they took on Montreal, Shea Weber's is one of their defenseman, one of their benefits when he's he's I think Petrie's our best defenseman but he's a good player and he's on a he's making almost eight million dollars in his cap hit. He's 36 right now. Oh boy, they're paying him. Almost eight million jobs. Like in fairness, they, they went on a run like, I guess if you're the GM or like, well we risked it for the biscuit, we didn't win at all. But you feel kind of good to like hey you can justify it by saying we went on a run, right? Yeah for sure and Iraq. Now you on the consequently those consequences that you're not paying between price and Weber, you're paying two guys who are see them out of your salary. They said they're those two guys alone are making over a quarter, the salary cap off and they're 33 and 36. When so Shea Weber he actually signed this is another conversation about cap, he signed a 14 year 100,000 Ten million dollar deal with Nashville. This was back before they were caps on term and teams did this because they thought, if they, if they signed such a big contract, just kept hitting, the NHL is wage is, you know, the number divided by the years. It's really easy. It's that's your cap. And it's 210 / 14 that 7.8 and change. That's your yearly, cap hit. So teams are thinking, okay? What if we just signed Guys, these wage is ludicrous deals that they're going to retire before they get to the end of. So we can bring our yearly cap hit down. And the player says wait up. So making a ton of money. Sounds good and I'm doing a fun game and so it sounds good like you can sign me. Send me for 30 years, find whatever bring number down. It only helps the team if we do that. Like a basketball player, who can jump as high as the 24? Yeah, it's it's there's a lot of really technical skills. A lot of really hard specific movements, and and knowledge that you have to kind of gain. And there are some wage Apple's vasilevsky being one. He's still super young. I mean, he's in his early mid-twenties. He's twenty-six something. I mean, so he's he has and he's been great for a long time. If I remember correctly thought Tampa, tied it up to send it to overtime in game four. Is that accurate what? Cuz there was a score late in that game, the 3rd. It was either Tampa or Montreal. I can't remember I'm blanking now but I remember going, oh, I guess, we're going over time, there's a late, late goal, the tie the game. Yeah, Pat maroon big rig, he ties it late in the third. So Tampa was trying to win that. Yeah, they weren't honey. Badgering at all. Yes, yes. Oh, Montreal, like, we're the first ones to score each tiebreak of that game. They stored. First, they stored third goal and they stored the fifth goal. So it was always Tampa responding. Yeah. It's not like Tampa's stored first and then let Montreal just keep walking. They've got the group on the defense and if Sergei Bobrovsky is playing at his at his ceiling That's a team that you could sell me on. That could potentially be a Stanley Cup contender. But the fact of the matter is is Bobrovsky. It just has not just so it spent a move that has not worked out and listen at the end of day. If you would've told me if you go after me at the time, they signed the contract at 30 years old, if paying him all that money. Was that the real smart move? I would've told you no way, but that was a team that was looking to make a move. They made it. And I think if you're gonna look back now, you're It's hard to make the argument that paying goaltenders top of market ever really works out for anybody. I mean, Ben Bishop you like you just got you know, you start to make these moves, looking backwards, and almost all of them haven't worked out well for the team that has done it. So where are you? And how much are you concerned about this Sergei Bobrovsky contract potentially holding back the Panthers. From from maybe finding their potential is a team that really should be a deep playoff contender. Well, I think it could hold them back past next season. No doubt. I mean, I think the big question for Florida is like what's gonna happen with Alexander Barkov and when you have there You know their two best players right now. Next to you. Let's say next season, they're going to get Aaron Ekblad back. Who's an elite defenseman? They have Spencer Night. Who's You know a goalie? Prodigy already got thrown into the fire and looked great in the playoffs and the regular season. So he's gonna like, be at the very least, that one b two bobrovsky, he might even be the starter as early as next year. So those are all good things. But you see the type of money that whoever does making right now 5.9% season and also the same for Barca, but Markov's contracts Expires. US face status after next even and then hoovered ou FH status after the following season. So all of a sudden they had a big, you know. Season this year, coming past their expectations. And then you know, still being a young team with an upward trajectory. But now you're looking at the next two seasons they're gonna have You know tremendous pressure on this team, so Yeah, You think that as the time goes on the Bob contract could hurt them even more, And it's It's tough for that team because they're just they were trying to find relevance. For years. They haven't won a playoff seriously. In 1996, and they nearly did this year they played. They were the better team of five on five in the series. I would say you know, outside the game number six where they got, you know, blowing out a little bit, but definitely that he has something special brewing. I love some of their sneaky acquisitions like over the past year, like Carter, her Hagee and Sam Bennett and Patrick Horn quest like they honestly, the Panthers might have beaten any other team in the league in the first round this year outside of Tampa and Colorado. I really believe that so it was a really tough draw for them. Having explode in that series, like, say if the teams were to meet again next year. I think outside of and we'll end up seeing, you know Pete, who ends up winning that Toronto, Montreal, Syria's It's probably looking like Toronto, and I think Toronto Winnipeg will be a real treat for folks. Um, I think they're a really great They're a great team. They're well coached. They've got young superstars. How excited are you to watch that series? Play out? And if you're asking me or if you're if I were to ask you what series you thought would go seven games out of the ones that we're going to see here in the second round is this may be the one that that maybe has that has that potential. I mean, I do. I am taking Colorado over Vegas and seven and I'm sticking with Carolina over Tampa, but it's gonna be really nice. I think that Carolina is a Better, vory better, more experienced, even better puck possession version of the Florida Panthers. They could play high scoring with you two Got goaltending options. I mean, it's been the rookie Alex that Belkevich playing every game, which has been a little surprising, but he was outstanding in the regular season, so And you know, with camp A. It's just like you know that their power play is going to be dangerous every single night, so limiting the damage. They're making it more of a 515 game, or Carolina can dominate the shot attempts and that sort of thing. That's the lay of the land of Carolina wants to win this Syriza, but they are a better, more healthy version of the Florida Panthers. They go toe to toe offensively with the bolts. "Vasilevskiy was once again dominant. He stopped all 20 shots He faced supposed to shut out in his second straight start and earn his second shutout overall this season that earned him the first star of the week in the NHL. Is now posted shut outs and back to back starts five times in his career, and he's gone seven consecutive periods without allowing a goal. When you talk about the advantage the Lightning has in net every game. It's pretty wide, especially in this division. Vasilevskiy is head and shoulders better than everyone else. "I'm not going to start her vacation off at this bad mojo here like a wallow in it myself and I think yeah, I think Alex and I had I think we were like nine and o or like eight an hour or something covered games together after that Bruins win streak just was that was that was like all you and me and then it was so funny that it was like Sean was on a game and I didn't even want to mention it. I just was kind of watching from afar and then I saw they lose and that Sean's doing the notes and the rap not like that's pretty funny. I don't know that's weird to me. But hey, I mean like still like wage we have like two losses between the two like we're still ride in the South. This is a run and I think only ones a regulation loss which is the one I did so my it's really not that bad still and I guess she was having three regulation losses and US accounting for one of them when we do the coverage isn't all that bad. So I'm going to take it and I'm going to ride this right to the Stanley Cup Final where they will go and we're things will be normal birth. Then we'll be on site again. It's going to be going to be fantastic. But seriously, like they really are playing so well and it's been a joy to like have a break from Celtics coverage when I get thrown on Bruins games because I don't know what they're starting to feel like they have that type of chemistry that can make them help them make another one of those deep runs that we've kind of grown like a costume to every year but last season the season just got squandered right and it just like got weird in the bubble and all that momentum. They built in the season was just lost but this year kind of feels a little more reminiscent of their Stanley Cup run a few years ago to me and especially with stuff like this. I know that the Bruins have not lost to the Flyers this year, but I was like one of these days they're going to lose like they're not going to win all eight games. They very well may at this point, they're five and O against them, but it was just a lot of goals David pastrnak as clearly as healthy as he's ever been the team's clicking and they're doing it without well, they did it without Kevin Miller and Matt grzelcyk wage not having grzelcyk was huge cuz they missed his pocket movement.
