"So it is the end of an era. He's one of the greatest athletes this city has ever seen and play with more heart, soul passion, fighting through injuries that would put a baseball player on the 60 Day injured list. Guy had 17th knocked out, missed two shifts. They put oral glue and gauze in his mouth. Let's go get back on the ice, and they won three Stanley Cups. He won two Norris trophies He want to Con Smyth trophy. He's played 1192 NHL games, has 625 career points and has never averaged fewer than 23 minutes per game in a 16 year NHL career. He turns 38 this Friday. He's now a member of the Edmonton Oilers. Jonathan Well as you Well know, Cap I'm an eighties Hawks kid. So Denis Savard is my favorite. Savar C chord. Larmer Bannerman. Those are those are my guys, right? But you think about some of the all time great. I mentioned some of them. But you think about Stan Mikita. Tony Esposito's some of the all time greats, But you got to understand the Duncan Keith is there as well. When you think about power play goals on ice against his number one total goals on ice against He's number one a number of other categories, including defensive point shares. When you really go into the granular detail of what Duncan Keith did, it's more than just a scoring. It's the little things he did defensively as well. You think about Keith C. Brought Doug Wilson. Bob Murray, Um, PR. Pull out your guy from back in the day, right? Good old number three. Those guys were part of the defensive point share. So you talk about all around terrific player when it's not hyperbole. For us to say this is the end of an era. We're talking about a difference making hockey player. Part of the championship era. So this is why, you know you gotta turn the page at some point right? Because you know the organizations changing, but Duncan Keith was one of the heart and soul players of this hockey team. So Greg Lashinsky the puck Daddy. He's very good. He's outstanding writer for ESPN. He's been all over the hockey world used to be at Yahoo! He graded the trade. Can you tell me what letter grade he gave to the Chicago Blackhawks and what letter grade he gave to the Edmonton Oilers CB. He gives the Chicago Blackhawks in eight plus for what they acquired. They brought in a player and I believe it is a Caleb Jones that they got that Seth's brother correct. And Seth is going to be a free agent. The Hawks are supposedly Targeting. He's one of the best defensive players in the game. Popeye Jones kid exactly, And they also got a third round draft pick. He gives the Edmonton Oilers a D plus Said. Yes, He's an amazing player. But you take a $5.53 million cap hit for a guy turning 38. And you give the Blackhawks a third round pick and a solid player. That's a hall for Chicago. Yeah, I mean, you see that they're rebuilding right? And by the way, this will be the good time feeling about the Blackhawks because, as Jeff put together a tremendous montage You think about the championship your own I can think about is the music and the fans and people really get into the Blackhawks in the John McDonnell Europe. He was part of that man. That's why it gave me goose bumps just to hear that because All we saw is winning. Always saw his championship level hockey something I never thought I'd ever see. In my lifetime. It's kind of like the Cubs of the White Sox World Series right to see them not to ring the bell three times. Pretty good. Pretty, you know, also reminds me is that in that montage we heard some color analysis from Pierre McGuire. Who is no longer broadcasting is now the Ottawa Senators. Senior vice president of player development that is better for NHL TV. Um goodbye, Pierre. Good luck. Get off my TV. Thank God He's no longer part of it holding down And so all these years all I needed was that so I didn't need anybody else. I didn't need him. Those stick his nose in on the color analysis. I didn't wanted it. I didn't want him in there. So all I needed was Doc and Enzo. And there's a guy between the between the benches. Given his color analysis. I didn't ask for it. How about that? So now, Ed. So wherever he's going to go clear and free and free, just be able to give us color analysis about being interrupted by the little bald guy down there. Goodbye, Pierre and so off. Goodbye, TBS. Correct and their hockey coverage which TNT TNT. I'm sorry. Yeah, you know, it is sad that I hadn't thought about that. Because, like and I'm glad ESPN is back in the hockey game. I think it will be better for everybody when ESPN is involved, because we all I think, just by habit have ESPN on. It's almost like the go to okay. If I'm turning my TV on, Where's the starting place? For me? It's always ESPN just Just check in right? And for years, they have not really been totally in the hockey game. And for the great Hawks run. ESPN was not really in. We would get the occasional When the playoffs would roll around. We'd get Barry Melrose. We get Steve Levy, but that was it right. It's an NBC run for the Hawks and You know, that's the one. It's leaving. You know, NBC no longer has the rights and it's interesting because the entire hawks you know that championship run that was I don't know if you want to classify it as a dynasty, but three cups sure in that, you know, over that seven year period, whatever it was, it is that was we count that like we caught the Spurs dynasty. Yes, Yes, exactly Good cost city, but like, and it was synonymous with everything that was going on with NBC. Doc had the call of all those Great cup wins. Eddie all check. We all love on the show was, you know, instrumental in every call, you know, not just during the season, but also for all the playoff runs, which made it feel that much more special. And now that NBC's out of it, it's just interesting, but that the Hawks run is over. And you're seeing that with the trades of guys like Duncan Keith because he's nearing the end of his career, sure, and and it's just if you hadn't really Like I said, it's over. It is absolutely over like this, where we love tapes and Kane. But this kind of signifies that that run is officially okay. Here's one question. So the Blackhawks have filed a motion saying that they're not responsible for what Bradley Aldrich did when he went to coach at the high school. Think it's reprehensible stance to take But that's their stance. I'd like to be the attorney on the other side of that, By the way, I can prove that you that you're liable but go ahead so If indeed they end up losing and this scandal just this was the Bears The Cubs. The White Sox are the Bulls, not hockey. It would be front page freaking news all the time. Anyway. If they determine Yeah, the Hawks are liable and they knew about it in this meeting. There's going to be massive change in that front office. For me, Eddie All checks the president of hockey operations. Go hire a GM, but you're going to be the face of what we're doing. You've got a sterling reputation your Chicago in and you played here. Just saying that I don't. Uh, scandal, no scandal. I think that's probably needed, agreed. What I'm saying like I think it's kind of needed. See evening here..

We could do just about anything. Karachi still cannot you bobby? But that's probably these looking for just an impression Gordon Smith Liam McGuire being in Moscow and seventy two knowing how the majority of those three thousand Canadians partied for the next forty eight hours J. People as near decapitation of the referee. The team coming back from five three watching the stick swinging with the military in their machine guns the Eagleton's salute and the Henderson goal of course and that would have been pretty cool to be there for sure. I would have died to be there for that thing because it was just off the map was Tom. Watson's run to winning. The British open has a in his sixties. I don't know exactly. But it was down on the eighteenth hole the seventy second hole and you had to get up and down. I eat get in the playoff. I think or something like that fuck. Maybe they'd get in the playoffs. I forget anyway that was that was that thing just chewed up the world for that Sunday to watch this thing anyway. And the Welland Park Steve. Which which was this Super Eight movie that my dad took and outcomes the projector the screen. You know set the screen up and delivery room get around. Kids never fucking worked ever ever Steve. My Dad would wind this thing to there and then flip it on and all of a sudden the tape would just be gathering up with coming out the other end inside on fire can chime in on that in that when my mom passed away spy she'd been gone almost nine or ten years. Well this should be funny. Wasn't us just stick with it? Okay how often do you decide where you tell me that somebody just died died of cancer? Bless his heart like I don't interrupt you at that stage you go. This is GONNA BE FUNNY J. Anyway been working with Russ anyway my grandfather. My Mom's dad had had taken a bunch of eight millimeter film throughout your time in the summer cottages and stuff like that and my mom had had them for years and years and years and never done anything just gathering dust and so when we're cleaning out her effects. I took this big box of eight millimeter film. And here's my childhood in a an never seen any of them in here. I am well into Middle Age. I'm going to get a chance to watch myself and my sister and my dad is a young guy. Like just it's crazy so I I first step was. I needed an eight millimeter camera. Found one on Khachigian five minutes for fifteen dollars so I bring my thing home. Fired up and Just shoot it up against a wall and it was like one of the most emotional things I've ever been through. I'm sure and it makes me envy kids today. That the way they're captured now as children when they're eighty and they're looking at themselves as a five year old. It will look like it was video taken yesterday. Yeah Yeah true true. That's good. Yeah we did that for my my mom my mom and dad speaking of the indepth when my brother got killed my brother got killed in eighty six. No this is going to be a fun story. I news anyway. That's all I got to say grace. We laughed reward terrible. We had people over. They brought gifts. You Know Oh boy it brings me back my my. My folks had a big box of those super eight reels of film. And you know on some of that right. I mean they're just hanging on by threat right when this shit happens speaking of blur you know just the next six months. Fuck this is crazy and my sister got got got them all together and got them put on one. Vhs Tape like a Beta tape that they transferred all of it onto there and then of course. There's a bunch of it with my younger brother. Joy was on there and we gave it to my folks cool. We Christmas gift so super cool Superego is able to just take my DSL. Our camera and So I'd shoot the eight millimeter image on the wall and then take my camera and videotape with the camera and it turned out actually really really well. I was surprised by that. I didn't have to pay any money for it but yeah no those keepsakes awesome to have absolutely now. Listen people out there when you're when you're when you're hearing this segment of the show going. What a great idea you know. I got a bunch of those. If you're over if you're over forty I guess you'd probably you probably went through that as a kid and you're going to do that. You know the big ring of the slide. Stevie right this lights you'd Click on the thing in the slides go up and that's all fine and Dandy that you WanNa do that okay. People Great Idea. Gather all of it up. Put them all on one fucking desk or whatever you can do okay but there for you. You're not inviting friends over Steve. Okay you're not inviting me over. Look at have a seat. Okay Betty come on in Ronnie here. You go hunting Galardo. They're here okay. Fire up the up the slide projector and we're going to show you our trip to Mexico right. No no no no no no. You're not. You're not doing that. Facebook people are doing that less and less right you know because they get that opportunity to throw their videos up on facebook and expose all their followers to it and and their followers and stop following immediately. I think those those Come on over and see our vacation slides or videos. I gotta think that's that's not where it once was pre internet. I would think right right. Yeah right anyway. I could go on at length. Steve Ad Nauseam Steve. Okay infinitum I could go on about things. That people are putting up online. That they shouldn't be right right. I can have fifty categories of that Steve. Okay like look at the look at the picture of this. Disgusting Looking lasagna. "Where someone sits down and says everyone has said everyone has said you know. I'd love to be a rock singer. I'd love to be no everyone's on their bucket lists. I will be a Rockstar. Love to get up on stage and belt out can guns N. roses tunes or something right and then someone goes fuck wide and we do that. Why don't we take amateurs and get them to come on stage and audition fuck that show? Steve? Britain's got to every country has one now and so anyway no and you're sitting around right now and you're not doing anything. There's no bad idea. I'm telling you there's no bad idea and special channels like Netflix and Prime. All these guys right. They're they're looking for original series. It looks really good new reality TV show and I'm not being paid to talk about it but it's The property brothers have a new one called. I think it's called celebrity. Reynaud or something like that where these are the two twins and really likeable guys. One of them is actually dating. Zoey Day. Chanel. I don't know if you know that actress I don't. She was the actress who played Isa Elf with will Farrell. The Christmas movie. Yeah I remember. Remember his love interest in that. Elf's the Aliens Interest Elf. Not Alf or Elf will actually talking about al. I don't I don't I don't Feral Elf. No the Great Christmas movies of all time. You gotTa Watch that anymore. She'll put on the list so one of the guys dating now but anyway they've got a new show and it sounds really neat concept and they've got some big celebrities like Melissa McCarthy's involved in it and they give the celebrity the chance to Do a big home redevelopment for someone in their life that they've been touched by. Who's been unbelievable in the community? Who have a lot of things going moneywise for them and They basically come up with these beautiful beautiful home. Renos for them and they do the big reveal and everything like that and the celebrities involved with the rhinos. It looks pretty cool. Yeah well that's been. That idea was around for a while member it was in fact. I remember the host of it tie Bennington or something like that was the host of a show where they extreme midgely. The originally where that idea started was after nine eleven. That people were you know. The firefighters were front and center along with other people for sure. But a lot of these New York fire stations right like they lost many many many members. Right of yeah And and firefighters and then someone came up with the story and said look at this guys. Let's get him out of the House. We're going to renovate his apartment broncos of what he did in the lives saved and that's where that idea started you know. This is just basically insertive celebrity into that exact same idea. Couple of things I want to get to the web poll today are be computing. Web Poll is about time travel sports. Because we don't have any sports in the present and there's not much happening in the future. Wimbledon is about to be according to the USA Today. The All England Club is GONNA announce on Wednesday cancelation of the twenty twenty event. That's a July event starts late June last days. June and mostly it's held in July. So that's the kind of time line we're looking at so if you're in NHL Fan and you're going be nice. They got a season in here. That's CERTA giving you an idea of where things are at time wise but the question I have goes to the past and get you to jump in time machine James whether it's your favorite sport golf. Pga or something else if you could go back in time to any great moment in history and sports whether that's an event or a game or whatever what would that event be loud good one goodwin. You know bugs me is like if I made a list attended these things. You've probably been you probably at seven of them in your holiday. Smoking son of a I'd be game. Eight of the seventy two summit series. I think would be for sure the one that was in Moscow. I don't remember live right but I mean I've watched it probably five times that about it and that's why I know all about it and and I'd be fascinated to have been in that building that night well I. I was at one of the Games in Toronto. I know the problem with that. Steve is I was too young to appreciate it. Sure so I've got. I'm I've got no interest in going back to anything that I don't know. Do I WANNA be there? When Roger Bannister broke the four minute mile? Or something now fuck. I don't care right. I was too young. I wasn't around but but things you missed. You know that you weren't at Can I give you one because when I thought you might go to would be Jack? Winning the masters at forty nine hundred eighty six very cool very cool. That's I've been. I went to the masters as you know. I went no eight as always said the most unpopular victory. Everett's right like I said Trevor Immelman. That's gotTa Watch going down the stretch of all the Times. Fuck of older guys. Yeah that was. That's a cool one. There's some Olympic stuff that Lika when the Olympics are on. I I watch all of it all of it. Okay whether whether there's a Canadian person in it or Canadian team in it or not I just absolutely love it with the drama. The emotion of the broadcast of the Olympics was so good right so good where they somehow figure out and are are often very accurate when they do a profile certain athletes who are coming into the event. You know where they do that right. They've been they've been filming stuff for four fucking years right and then there's some unbelievable stories how people became Olympians. And I'd have to put some thought to it. But there's some of that stuff over the years like improbable gold medal winners. You know that. And and even if they don't win a medal but how the how they got there and their story in the eighty eight Olympics in Calgary The British Ski Jumper Edwards. Eddie the Eagle you know and and that guy was just. He was so real so humble So naive and worked his way onto that. I watched that movie and it wasn't bad. The movie wasn't bad at all about about his journey to the Olympics. That would have been pretty cool to be at the bottom of that hill that jumping. This guy took off for the first time you know and that was that. I don't know that's what comes to mind right away. As as opposed to the obvious as opposed to you know the tiger winning event watch him. Play Golf I was at the gold medal. Game when the golden goal thereby said so. I've been there for that. I think the Olympics would always have a little bit more cachet because they don't allow you to watch replace it if I like if I p Vr the game Golden Goal Sidney Crosby To Win Twenty ten in Vancouver provide PBR. That and put it up on Youtube. Like it's I don't know the Olympics have watchdogs. Like crazy would last about a day and they'd be an order to take it down immediately because they're so protective of any of these replace so right while I might take seventy two now or the Gretzky Lemieux and eighty seven of the candidate. Cup with time as time marches on. Might appreciate the Sidney crosby goal even more because I rarely see the freaking thing because it's at the Olympics. Right right. You're right. Yeah you don't see it very often right. It's probably going to be you know highlands probably going to be on. Cbc or someone of broadcast rates. Can't you can't see you know? I'll I'll tell you when I was when I was a young whippersnapper not a wraps Galleon Rob Scahill love that. We're so my first job with Molson. While I was going to university in auto was I drove a special events van. They would hire university kids to work for the summer in all the cities across Ontario. And I got a gig doing it for Ottawa and I was skews me. You are a special event Special Jim. So they're a bunch of events right softball tournaments and shit like that. They sponsor right to national events. And I remember you talk about Gr. Great things that I will remember for the rest of my life was. There was a ten K run that they had in Ottowa six miles ten k. Anyone could sign up It wasn't a sanctioned events was just come on down. It's the it's the Ottawa ten K Ron writing that we're GONNA do every year. And maybe it was for Terry Fox or something. I don't know might have been the Terry Fox and I remember putting up my banners to do put up banners at the finish line and then the start line and that's primarily what you did you know that you would whatever events sponsor you go put a bunch of side bring beer and all that stuff and I remember being at the finish line and watching people come through. You know there was there was you you. Could YOU COULD COMPETE STEVE. At any level it was open. It was an open rates. And there's some guy across the finish line with a bunch of other guys who ripped through this thing but they're almost like professional runners long distance runners and then all of a sudden you know more people started drifting it you know and I remember like standing there and watching and absolutely brought to tears by some of the people who had weight problems and battled wait their whole life. We're running for their mother with cancer. Were and just absolutely pouring down sweat. You know. Maybe and I'm this isn't funny. You know but but maybe pissed themselves trying to get to the finish line because it was dedicated to someone right when you bring up. These events of all the shipping goes on in the world. I always remember that. I always remember that you know and I can see the face of the girl who came across going. You know this was for so and so I was doing this and it's like I say it's kind of weird but I remember that out of all the stuff that I've been to now that being said you know record breaking shit would be unbelievable a Olympic events. Like I said I could go to. Acura go to anyone and it seems every Olympic. Someone sets a record someone. Someone does set a record anytime candidate as well. It's something I think internationally. That's that's always going to kind of rule the day when it's when it's us against them that kind of feel Those are the ones that will always stand out for me even like one of the other ones that I would choose from when I was like you know really little. When was the Montreal Canadians? Taking on the Soviet Red Army on New Year's eve when the Soviets are doing this traveling tour. That's still even though it was a a club team in the halves That's still had a obviously Canadian versus the Soviets thing that was that made that whole era of Canada Russia. Really interesting and special which will never really recapture again because Russians are everywhere in the NHL. Right now and there's no real feel of US versus them. Those are the ones that I think will always win the day for me. If I make a list of twenty five at at twenty will have kind of that international feel to it. Yeah I would. We recorded the suspen ables recording. This week I was doing some Trivia with Russ and I don't know if we brought up on your on on the This show or not but there was incredible stat that the Soviet Red Army team.

"And I mentioned that Joe Exotic Eulogy from from Tiger King. Because like I'm just sitting around in having a coffee and all of a sudden a memory of some new bizarre thing pops into my head thinking. Oh Yeah remember that eulogy he gives for Travis. One of his lovers or husbands like talking about like first of all. He's basically doing a country music concert but the best thing you could say was the guy always always had his balls out. I Know God Damn Eulogy. What the Hell Ya. I was sort of waiting for today. Did I hear that right? And then he hammers you a two or three more. I know about it. Yeah you know. It's it's interesting right that show and I'm I'm crushing shows right now stevie. I'm you know I'm staying up till four five in the morning watching series catch up. I'd watched the first two seasons of Ozark a long time ago right now. The third season is out as everybody knows and and and I thought God I forget you can imagine Steve. I have a mind like I never forget anything what. You're sure quest so anyway I started going back and I kind of started watching the first couple of shows from the first. Okay I remember this whipped through. That's weird that you did that because I think I might have to. I sat down and watched the first episode of season three and I was lost and then the wife immediately goes into this really complicated dangerous sounding new scheme that she's got up her sleeve even though everything seems to be okay with their casino riverboat or something and as I. This is complicated now. I don't know what's happened. I'm lost some probably going to do exactly what you did. Yeah and it's good. It's good it's still. It's a great show when it came out anyway some crushing that you know but this is interesting right. This this tagger king show is is beyond dysfunction and where people chew this shit up is crazy ass. Plot on movies are or series that they're doing But that that's usually made up. You know that's made up stuff but this isn't made up stuff and and when you watch it you're going this has got to be made up. It's it's got to be written somewhere and and sure enough. It's not and people got an appetite for that man. You know the old I was go back to their reality TV star coming on and I think I always. I always think the base for reality television survivor when they started. That series from fear factor. You know when when people gathered around the television to say this is crazy that they're taking everyday people and making them sit in the fucking VAT with spiders and and then and then of course it just grew from there right the reality. Tv became everything from the food channel to the history channel. Where guys are hunting for gold all sorts of stuff all of it now. All Big television is what can we come up with? That's real yeah and rates. Some of them sucked though. I mean he's just like it's not it's reality sometimes but you've got a camera in your following people who are supposed to be interesting around and some of them fail miserably but I would never have thought you know. Thirty years ago. Like pre pre survivor that we get to a stage. Where would be a highly rated? Tv show to just put a camera on people just going about their business right about some of it's GonNa Backfire little bit right because I think like storage wars remember. That came on a few several years ago of right that all that had the four or five characters you can see when they get these shows right so we need a topic subject we need some real. We need characters. We need controversy. We need emotion and all that Shit right in the storage wars. Was You look at this thing? Go this is fucking cool. You know and everyone's again. Everyone's appetite for collecting items and story behind Some something that becomes extraordinary people chewed up. I antiques roadshow is on. Pbs has been around for a long time where people bringing their stuff that they've had sitting around the house and they get it appraised you know and I love that show I love it. It's like someone comes in and and if you watch it long enough you'll you'll know that some of this stuff that like like art when People Begin. Bring Art in your watch out here. Now Watch out. This is going to be in the thousands and and I've you know I saw one of those shows. I happened to catch it where someone brought in. So there's stories right where they're bringing a piece of art and the guy goes look at this fifty grand right and guys like fuck. It was leaning against the wall behind my washing machine. And then the great one was someone brought in this blanket and they you know it was a big board and they set it all up and the guys like. Where did you get this? I don't know it was has been passed down to me. It was my grandfather's and everyone's looks at it was trying to figure out what it is and and the guy goes okay here here you've got something here okay. And they had a bunch of appraises look at it and they came back and said this is. You've heard of Geronimo okay. The native American Indian seizure of course game. This was his blanket. No it's not prove that well they did. They did and so now. They've got to put a price on it. And the girls like Geronimo. Yeah she goes this well. It must be pretty collectible. He goes yeah. Yeah they didn't make a series of these wasn't like this isn't like one out of one hundred it's the only one and they couldn't come up with a price. He said it's priceless. It's priceless we couldn't. There's no way we can come up with an idea anyway. Great shows and they did that and then storage wars but what happened was a bit of a backlash because then it started floating floating around that. It's the fixes. In here it's a set-up there stuffing stuffing storage units with with items right and that was one where I always watched from. Start to finish is like come on. There can be something amazing in every storage locker there in storage lockers for a reason if there's real value their chances are the folks know about it and they've got it with them and they've cashed out and just you know it's like oh it looks like it. Looks like there's a bed in their looks like an old mattress as urine all over it similar boxes in the background there. You know I go ahead and bid on that just to take a shot at it and get it for one hundred bucks and look at that. There's a bunch of gold bars in the back of the storage locker. Lucky me up. No Kidding Ya here's a typewriter that's twenty grand from Jefferson's secretary typewriter. Come up but anyway you know so. I think what people there's net net flix by the way is is buying up everything. Okay Netflix. Say Clip of video clip of that. I'm doing with them Partner Mind it's on the back burner now for the last couple of years but of a show that we wanted to do with me interviewing My My rolodex guests. I think I sent it to the kid. I'm doing it with videographer. And he didn't outstanding job on this thing and that would be. You should should still explore that by the way. Because that's you know you've got that strengthened not lot a lot of media guys do in a media guide been for years but if I get around celebrity I'm very. You know very formal very conservative. You know tell us about the game tonight. I'm not I'm not confident enough to you. Know get let them get their hair down and that is clearly in my opinion. You're great strength in the in the mold of like Cabbie who who's been tsn in the mold of Jerry di that kind of thing and having seen you do it and ironically enough jerry. Di was the guy you're interviewing is like you know you should probably explore that. Potentially well. We're GONNA WE'RE GONNA. I just got going on other things but anyway the the point is that net flicks where I say. They're buying up everything so I've been sitting. Everyone's sat around. You know they talk about ideas or something or whatever and say that would be a good show right and almost everyone goes. That's that's absolutely the stupidest idea of ever heard and now Netflix is going no no no. No no let us know will decide. We'll decide and and now anything flies. Anything flies I just don't understand entirely why we're so fascinated whether you mentioned you. Know Storage wars or You know the antique road show survivor. These are games within a reality show because we like watching competitions but these ones where we're just following people around as they do absurd things those are the ones. I'm most inclined to think that there's some level of scripting going on just those with the way they were just dropping. These bombshells in routinely just made me go. That may well have happened in if it did. I feel terrible but I sit starting to get to a point where you're dropping so many bombshells right. I'm inclined to think there's a lot of BS happening here but People Are Tuning it upright right that. Oh yeah look at look at other shows right where they're saying you would never think this would be a TV show where someone goes. You know my neighbor okay. I went over to his house the other day right. He never comes out of his house and I went over there and it was crazy. They've got you can't even get up the stairs to their second floor because the guy's got the stairs all stuff with old newspapers and God there's a bowl of cereal that's been sitting there right and then a guy goes hoarders k. Let's do it right and they come up with a show or my neighbors overweight now. They've got a show called my my six hundred pound life or honey boo bear or younger pimple. Popper and all these really great. I think it's the same weird dynamic of of our psyche as a species that makes a slowdown at a car. Wreck can have a look that makes us you know or I don't know we do it. We wouldn't do it anymore. But for a long people would pay a good dough to go to a freak show as they called them it. Just I think that's the same psyche that appeals to us with these shows like tiger king. Look at look at who would have thought the duck dynasty that someone says. Look there's this hillbilly family that lives down south and they got a business where they make. Duck Mannequins or D. Decoys Mannequins Decoy. Business right and I mean that thing was just you? Couldn't you couldn't not watch you know when when that came along and now now they're quoting some of these people win political stuff. They're going okay. We're GONNA get Uncle Sire. Whoever it was from duck dynasty to weigh in on gay marriage and stuff like that right. It's like I'm never sure. This guy's the barometer okay. Let me guess. He's against it. And this is where a democracy gets broken when you think about you know. Donald trump found a way to get to the you know one of the most powerful men on the planet become the American President and he was basically the product of reality TV for a long time. People follow him around with a camera. Unofficially because he was this could Jillian air playboy and then he got onto celebrity apprentice and everybody is fascinated and that that basically vaulted him to the presidency. Wouldn't shock me at all in the South democracies broken that you know if tiger king had been aired back in twenty fifteen and then he got out of prison oops are they give you a little way there but he might have a shot at running for you know and winning because he actually did run for the governor. I think he'd have a shot at becoming president of the states or some of these other reality TV people were looking at like duck dynasty. What about what about.

I gotta give a. I was never a fan of his and he hosted Saturday Night Live one of the best host severance have her yeah it's really talented. when you first saw him you didn't think he would be such a driving force for so many years sure that he has but he's a really good actor I know musician. I live player from Dr Baker. candlestick maker I think he's made some candle sticks to I have to ask you a question yesterday they showed these these two statues in front of Soldier Field one of the great Walter Payton some would say and I would be on their side the greatest NFL player of all time yep in George Papa bear Hellas and there's this giant statues of them and they're each doing something representative of themselves Walter Payton has a football on one hand he's kinda looking off as if to say I wonder which way I'll run so the guys can try to tackle me but they will be able to tackle me he's got that look in his eyes you know George Halas is he's doing what I think most people know him best for his coaching he's got his finger up he's like pointing at some guy like cover that guy cover that guy my question to you is when they put up a statue of you went in they will at some point put a statue of you what will your staff to be doing. smoking and drinking. twenty two a liquor store in a mini Mart yeah. I'm not swearing but getting ready to swear. not quite I swear by swearing it has gone there Billy it has gone down you know you are good for me you make me a better man well bill is good for everybody thank you Steve because the fact that you said I swore more than anyone you ever knew that yes that made me want to go back a little bit yes and you have to add to your credit you have your swearing has been curtailed by my estimates forty one percent over this time last year that's pretty good that is pretty good does that keep when the lead bill I still believe. you know who's in second place lumberjacks followed by Viking other sailors on a loser fourth carnival workers fifth so you all yeah really yeah that's pretty you're in good company. the company Steve when they put up the statue of use the what will your statue be delay that's really unfair question tough one is that you can't think about it you have to just answer you had time when he asked me. I don't I did know you're gonna ask me I have no idea really I don't know what they would be doing well under that must be though although why did it take so long statues I believe are always done posthumously aren't they. no no no Stan Mikita is love. Jordan yeah I guess you're right I think so I think these are new fairly new. really well yeah I mean there new as in the Michael Jordan one was with the United center right so that was sort of the the house that that Jordan build but the hawks statue didn't come for several years after that right but the ones that were doing the so you're saying sporting status I dentures that honor I think they're in fashion now was state statues at stadium. playing statue maker when you were a kid somebody would swing you around and then however you landed you had to stay an estimation I don't remember the. be on that I do that with a nap now. was that you make on the net yeah it's fun bill what would your step to I don't know. and what we know he asked us because he has an answer I don't think I'll ever get it you guys are definitely gonna get statues at some point I don't think I'm gonna write I don't even question that I I right okay well just know the quote the only question your schedule when his where it will be it has to be somewhere prominent in which alley. all right is enough. correct. at my expense I guess. I would say diabetes but Steve would even darker I didn't mean it that dark and hit me in the worst way that was not my intent. it is the one under that would be it's pretty great look into and giant I didn't believe how big it was a twelve feet tall each I thought about I don't know the dimensions I just know seeing chair it and Britney there it they it was huge yeah yep they are really cool. then it also when you think about it to look at a statue of one of your parents because you say to yourself well of course I knew them and love them but now for for generations people can come upon the statues and understand the significance that that person have though what a high honor that would be yeah but listening to John Williams show yesterday and just all the highlights of everybody dealing with Walter Payton even if they didn't meet him physically there were just these great moments he had such an impact on everyone would you put him in the category of people that even if you never knew or Matt you feel like you did gather certain people that you just because they're part of your lives for so long either through television or the radio or movies or just polit whatever music certainly you just go I never met the guy but I feel like I know him I never met Walter Payton but in in a weird kind of way he was part of the the the sound that was football I was growing up here right. what a great honor that it is a great honor I didn't know that your tell us was supposed to be on the east wind yeah that's how the story goes that he was supposed to be and was running late or something right and didn't get on the phone I don't know the whole story but Hey wow yeah that's included change history. very cool it's for I'm proud to be a Chicagoan and I hate the Packer yeah. Steve and I were talking before you came in what if the bears lose tomorrow night because tomorrow night is the start of the season there's there's there's extra added pressure totally it's your it's your your biggest rival the Green Bay Packers so what if they lose I mean they maintain that they usually they're the favorite though correct I believe they are the favorite yeah which is nice because we went a long time with that was not the story. your writers were all are you back out almost often underdogs I'm gonna wait and see how things go tomorrow. ical I need to see what happens tomorrow so are you guys that was saying this in the newsroom like opening day for baseball for me is Hugh Jess did you know it because I think that has to do with the weather the CCS opening day for the NFL this doesn't quite have the same feel for even this year Steve with all the extra hoopla I it's about the it's about the time of year I think you know it's because you dread the fact that the the start of the football season on the other now it's just not as exciting yeah it's not something coming forward yeah I just got stuff outside to do. you know you're not going to watch the game yeah I'm sure okay game but I'm not like you to opening day baby you know yeah I'm pretty excited about it and I have friends who have season tickets and Meg if you go to the game obviously it's more sure but to watch the first bears football game on your television is pretty exciting yeah. yeah is it weird though that it's on a Thursday would you would you have preferred the First Lady on a Sunday nor on normal football viewing time yeah I like Sunday I like a sound of a football game it's easy to map to. well the day at singer and I think it is bowling no the best of us napping sport a break and then more show stick Mister Graham's bill one in the region. Robert tells us that the sequel is it.

They're definitely on the defense. Yes. Definitely something to that. I need to ask you this. Because on we talked to are you? We talked about your childhood in Canada out a happy life. You lived in Kenner. There was a story. The other day about how life expectancy in Canada is much higher for both men and for women. Why is that what's going on in candidate that they're expected to live far longer than here in the United States? That may be the dumbest question I've ever been asked. You. And you've been exonerated lucky. I have diarrhea otherwise I'd say, I would say, it's probably medical everybody has medical. I would say that's why provided for free. It's not free. No, you have to pay for it. But it's a percentage, it's a very it's a percentage of what you earn is. What was what you pay? Here, you know, socialism, you don't want that kind of. No, you don't want socialism. But now may I ask you a question because I have a friend whose parents trucks down here. Fire departments are police station. So. No. Fire. I know some old guy. Just click this off right now. Let's go to the icebox idiots on the medical coverage decent, even though you see. My parents are in their eighties, and they're very healthy. Not done would. Yeah. My dad's a little goofy. Yeah. That's why I get it from the medical. They go to they go to the doctor, you know, while they don't have this kind of thing. And I'm like, well, let's because the populations different. They don't have a certain things because you don't not you don't put an MRI machine in for fifteen people that live in a little village. Right. So they have to go to bed the big. Yes. So that's how that works. But yeah. True or false most Canadians die of hockey related injury. Yes. Most Canadians are either escaped to the throat. "Stan mikita all season long Twenty-one behind the goal tender's nets and Twenty-one jerseys. What a wonderful career when a wonderful man, what a wonderful family. Stan mikita has had was. From the draw. David camp takes the puck off the face off top of the right, circle and richest shot over the stars up off the glass. Picks one that around pointy on Mark he'll poke it down ice in the hawk zone. Back to get. It is David camp. Hampton behind the hawk chased out by lake Pomo corner. Does the one eighty spin put the puck back in behind the net. The Gustav forsling you'll pass up the left wing to Kuna TalkLine. He deflects the puck down ice the stars on Esselin. Del chased in behind the stars net by John Hayden will stand up the left wing last aqua line. Connor Murphy got it. They're great. Good ULA will pick up the only assist on the Cain goal and Murphy banks pass up the right side that MRs Berlinying goes all the way down we get icing here against the hawks. One. Nothing off Drake cajole tendency of the season now assist in three straight games. That's a good sign hard a guy that can get a lot of reward or a lot of notoriety for the offense side of this game. But he's certainly traits allot, and you love his energy. There's going to be a big piece of the puzzle. Young ford. Give me four or five guys like Drake. Good joey. I roster on any more guys like that. If you're not, you know, the game has kind of gone away from the super big guys. But you need the Tomasson's of players in the game. And you like to have them have size, and Jill is not a big guy. But he certainly brings up nasty. Oh heart and a yard wide inside the hawk zone along the right boards to put the puck down to the corner. To Murphy, you'll stick it off the left wing glass to center ice Taylor took it. They're backing up to the stars blueline slept. The puck to the hotline. Connor Murphy there to receive it Alex debrincat winding up through center, ice, here's debrincat digging. "At Loyola medicine. They treat body and soul. Choi Blackhawks trillion the avalanche by a score of one to nothing. But yeah, this was this was an up in town. I twenty minutes in terms of both teams. Up and down the ice. Lots of action. Everyone got in on the action there and the Blackhawks certainly had their share of chances. I think now they're starting to see why Varlamov has been so good the last last four games or so he been good historically against the Blackhawks, but it's going to require some zone time. Some some traffic and pressure down slump. They get some real good looks in that first period. Storm hit the post on a wide open that Cain at a couple of good opportunities. You like the chances that the Blackhawks are generating and they actually didn't give a whole lot to the outright overall defensively for a much better job at what they needed to do. They just weren't able to capitalize. Now, you're in a position where you're down by one. The next goal is a big goal if that's can score. They can increase it in the Blackhawks will be fighting a little bit to try and get back into it. They've showed some good resiliency though in the last little while he'd be able to come back. But you gotta look at the start of this period read away finish off the penalty. Kill that doesn't have a whole lot of time left and then get back to business and make sure that they get the next goal kind of under the radar line. I thought that first period the played pretty well was. Denise him of line with Saad insecure. They were pretty active down there and caused their share chances to thought all the streamline had some opportunities ding. I thought Patrick Kane and tapes and cajole had some good opportunities. I like the the rotation that you know, Jeremy Colton was able to throw out there. They got a couple of minor penalties against them. Hopefully, they'll get a chance to have their Amanda advantage opportunity at some point here in the near future. But they did some good things. And I I did like what I saw from Anisimov along with the secure secure looks a little bit more comfortable each and every time that he's out there right now make some nice plays and hold onto the puck a little bit longer than he was before. Real quick want to give you a chance to talk about some of the kids you met with earlier today and other find event with some of the the recipients of of all star teams and whatnot. London is very proud of the scholarship program that was instituted way. Back in the beginning by STAN mikita, Keith Magnuson, Billtown was along back then. Among others. And last year we gave or one hundred scholarships to the local people here in Chicago, high school, people female or male that deserve an opportunity to further education. We had three young men down here today as is for this year. And we had the boys and girls all star teams, we call it media day. They come down. They watch the morning skate, and then have an opportunity to have a nice meal here at the United Center, and they get a tour of the locker room and stuff. It's it's a great opportunity for these young men and women to come down and see the Blackhawks up close and then an opportunity for our alumni to be active in the community..

"Are we got here in New York? We got hopes and dreams. The lands of hopes and dreams Bruce Springsteen area. Go. Well, I'm trying to fuck you up for New Year's morning trying to make you feel better about sports in New York. Maybe this year will be good. Can't be too much worse. Right. Can't be too much worse. Although the Rangers are a rebuilding team. They're not going anywhere. I wonder making some noise. But you never know g Vegas team in their first year finals in the Stanley Cup. Who's to say the islanders can't do something like that? I don't know if it would really do much in New York if they do. Unfortunately for the islanders and the devils. Even though they have been better teams in the Rangers of late. They certainly don't have the cash at the Rangers. Have Rangers are the team in New York. No question about that hockey was so that's where we're at that is where we're at the music. Well, we don't have the Woodstock music and arts festival with all those great bands. Over three days of fun and music and nothing, but fun and music. Well. I'm still hot stuff. In addition to fund and music and Woodstock I think I love my brother dano handle that kind of stuff. That's where we're at on January. First two thousand nineteen. Yeah. You wanna watch some college football bowl games have which have been rendered because of this new system. Cleaned of meaningless. They're like, okay. They're they're fun win. It's good for your team. You can say a pride. Hey, look, my alma mater lookout. Well, they did. But again, you have college football kind of mired in Alabama. Clemson again. And honestly DEA really really care, Alabama, Clemson, South Carolina. College football. Okay. Student athletes. I think we've all given up. I hear the double still using the term student athletes, but for the most part we go. Yeah. Yeah. Right. Their students are right. Yeah. Let me get into the pros, and they don't care about school or studying or any of that stuff. Where that's at. That's what we got what we got. I wish I could be more positive trying to be positive. You know, you don't like a naysayer. Two thousand eighteen also saw the demise of some great great. Athletes, and you think about it. Now you start off with Willie McCovey and Willie McCovey notorious really for that one at bat that line drive, the Bobby Richardson, they was caught and to his deathbed thinking, oh Jesus. I just got an ad volunteer a little bit higher. Wow. Look what would have done. We would not championship. History would have been changed. Jim Taylor died at eighty three. And Jim Taylor was a great running back for the Green Bay Packers. Horning and Taylor. They compared. Taylor. Jim brown. He said Jim Brown. This is Vince Lombardi's, quote, we'll give you that leg to tackle. And then take it away from you. Jim Taylor will give it to you. And then ran it through your chest. That's pretty pretty accurate evaluation of them Willie. Mccovey was eight years old at five hundred twenty one home runs two hundred seventy average over that year. Those years he was called stretch. And he was six four. You know, big man six four. Yeah. And you look at Aaron judge and Giancarlo Stanton. Six seven six six six eight players in baseball now, and you go boy six four was a monster of a man. That's a shortstop. Then they'll be nowadays. Then you got the little guy. Stan mikita were stylish as they call them. He was the one that pioneered the curved hockey, stick Bobby Hall gets credit for that. But it was really Makita nine time. All-star Blackhawks one thousand nine hundred sixty won the Stanley Cup. He was five nine a little guy. And then of course, there were the greats in broadcasting and writing and Keith Jackson. Ooh, nellie. That was that was his thing. And he was eighty nine years old. And he's just the voice of college football. Keith Jackson was there. It was a big game. And of course, he he was the first voice of Monday night football replaced by Frank Gifford after a year, but he pioneered that then there was Roger Bannister. What does that name mean to you died at eighty eight years old? I four minute miler. Stuck in my friend Larkin who's a runner back in the day. And we're talking about four minute miles and. Pete ran marathons random in four hours to me anybody who finishes a marathon. This is a one one area where participation trophies means something because to finish a twenty six point two mile run. He's a big accomplishment just to finish it just to run in New York City marathon, he ran into them. Now, he's regret that I never did that I was a distance runner for a while. But I was ten K that was about as far as I would run. But you know, you were clocking. Over time eight minute miles. I seem to remember we've ransom seven-minute miles. We thought man that's moving and it is. But you think about a four minute mile and we've improved on that a little bit. But not a lot in all those years. You know, going back to the fifties. Now, also lost. Tony cloninger. Who hit two grand slams in one game? And he was a pitcher. And of course, the New York player that we lost. It was really beloved was Legrand. Laurent's rusty Staub who died very very young. You know, it was just a great player and a great humanitarian and a great guy and Oscar gamble. I think Oscar gamble remembered mainly in New York for the hair. Of course, and George Steinbrenner where the Yankees, you can't have hair like that anymore. So that's the deal as what we got the two thousand eighteen farewell two thousand nineteen here. We come ready or not we will take a quick break. And we will be back, and we'll take your phone calls. We get Bob Glauber from Newsday. Joining us a little bit later on and talk about football. But it's gonna be you and me on the telephone. If you've always wanted to call and thoughtfully I'll never get in. This might be a good morning to do that eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty six.
