Dr stan freberg as sherlock holmes in our last episode dart off lloyd. Dr steam had just made another literature. Jump we knew that. Dr steve had landed in front of the office of sherlock holmes but we had no idea what are deployed had wound up. That is until now as there was a brilliant flash of light and we see i hero come crashing down into the middle of a small but well furnished consultation room in london england. Oh boy we're attorney's name i know. Where's dr steve. He took his own merimee readies. We made literature jump. I thought he said he was gonna do coming consultation. Room moments and they're on the threshold stands a man well over six feet tall and so thin. He appears considerably taller his eyes. I shop and piercing and he has a thin hawk. Line knows and as square jaw. He quickly looks around the room and dentists closing the door behind him. Are your loan watson luncheon. Have you any objection to my closing. You're shudders watson. no go ahead closure as the man is his way around the room. Flinging the shutters together. Dr floyd ponders curiously on the name. He's been called if he is watson and this is a piece of classic literature then this man could only be sherlock holmes. You were expecting maybe basil rathbone. Never mind you are no doubt wondering why i'm here. I assume it's because you have a new case. Why yes i do. How nice huge. Notice very stylish. Don't you think matches my cloak. No no i mean you have a new mystery to solve all right watson. Have you ever heard of professor moriarty. Wasn't he a mathematics professor. That's him well after an extensive investigation. I've come to realize that it is he who has been behind all the recent crimes and london masterminding numerous acts of evil. Like some sort of of evil mastermind. Precisely moriarty is the napoleon of crime. You any plans to invade russia. No no no watson. It was just a figure of speech. Oh right sherry anyway. His shoulders or rounded and he's to is are deeply sunken into his head. Does he have pale skin and greasy black hair. Yes he does watson. How did you know. Just playing a hunch. Well the moment he entered the room he appeared at me with great. Curiosity then smiled at me and said you don't know me do you. Don't know me do you on the contrary. I know exactly who you are. Well then if you know who. I am then you know why. I'm here oh. I know why you're here and you know i know why are here with it if you know that. I know that you know why i'm here. Then you must know that. I know that you know that. I know that you know why i'm here. Yes i know look. I didn't come here. a weedy bent. I'm sorry you're being woody. What look. I came here to tell you that. I'm quite sure. A smart man like yourself could see that if you think you're smart enough to bring destruction up on me i. I'm smart enough to do the same to you. You are paid me. Several compliments mr moriarty. Let me pay you on in return. When i say that a man smart enough to see how smart i am is surely smart enough to know that i'm smart enough to outsmart one as smart as you. You think you're so smart don't you I get by. But you haven't seen the last of me sherlock holmes that he left my office dear me. You can see the great danger. I am in watson. is this reason. I'm wondering if you'll come away with me to switzerland until three days have passed and moriarty is in custody of course homes. You can count on me to help you with this case. Oh no need watson you see. It's got a pet at handle and a detachable shoulder strap not dead case the moriarty case right. I'll meet you at the station in an hour. Minute funny thing to picture those Frankenstein it right into trey. Yeah. I mean I guess. Strikes. Her tidy. Big Big. It's the Do you find funny to watch me and my automobile? What's what's going on with the Vampire Vampire ATTRAC-. I didn't pick up on it. All right. So Nine, thousand, nine, hundred, fifty, two. There was a comedy album this Guy Stan Freberg nineteen, fifty one. He had a comedy and he came out with this thing called John and Marsha. If you WANNA search John and Marsha Stan. Freberg. On, Youtube. I'm pretty sure this is A. Positive this is what he what he's referencing. Okay. Great. This was a very popular This was uproariously funny to people in the nineteen fifties how? and. It endured all the way to the sixties. I mean, they were concept of it though that's Exactly the same thing except replace Dracula and Vampire with John and Marsha wait. Okay. Okay. Let me this is the wikipedia article. So here we go John and Marsha is a nineteen fifty one American novelty comedy single written and performed by San Freberg and released on Capitol records this is goes back to our point about how easy fame was that. Consisting of only two words John and Marsha the recording is a back and forth dialogue between a man and a woman ranging in varied emotion it was made into an award winning commercial. by producer director. John. Hughley and Animated Art Babbitt aired on television in nineteen, fifty six. So supposed to be basically a parody of. Soap operas. Sending up soap operas and the way characters talked to each other on soap operas. And so he is doing this reference years later and just replacing them with vampires and it gets its own track on the album. Fill it out to sixteen. GotTa. GotTa gotTA gotTA gotTA gotTA gotTa Guy. Okay. All right. Well so so it is party in the USA. Once again. Yeah I mean that doesn't make it a song. It's definitely not a song. It's not really worth anything either although you know what I will say chuckled at the when they flew away at the end the bat soundproof. Bat sounds like apparently. It was funny monsters holiday. What do we have to say about that one I need that as a single? For my for my Christmas Dj. Masters now, date the choose holiday. Was a single I. It's on a you can find it on forty five possibly forty-five of monsters Mash Monster. Mash. Monster just. Getting you the misprint one this says monsters. Monsters. Books. He should've done one for every holiday. How where's Monster Flag Day right? Right. Monster Veterans Day, or you know monsters giving no Thanksgiving what novelty novelty Thanksgiving songs are out there zero shit. We're at the end of the album guys we did it. So as you know Wiley as a seasoned veteran of the show, what we do at the end of the album is we look back and we. You know we reminisce together and we retrospectively assign the album a rating from zero to negative five of some quantify fire. So you both get to choose the quantify fire and you get to be the first one to rate the album. Oh wow a lotta pressure. A lot of pressure. If you're not a Beta cuck, you can probably rise to the occasion. DRAC and. Real real eager. Be Eager. Well I'm. GonNa rate the rate, the album. It's so tough because I love I fucking love the Monster Mash is is such a banger. I mean Mash Mash. So good. But. The rest of the album really is is just total DRAC. I'M GONNA have to I'm going to have to rank this negative two coffins. On a scale. Never doing here A. Solidly, Middle The road the. It has its moments I would actually probably by I would probably buy this album. Yeah I would. I would like to own this. Yeah. Okay. I mean the covers the covers pretty good. All right. Yeah. Okay. Negative to coffins. Mike you. Sure. Look this is making stop. We've heard it all. Yeah. I can't be too mean to bobby, I had a little fun with this album. I'm GONNA give them a negative one coffin. And I'm giving him the negative one because he never explained how to do the Monster Mash. Contracts. So he loses a point for that. Oh. Okay. Wow, that is awfully generous. I mean listen this was listenable. So that is a big win for something on the show but is it sixteen tracks listenable? No, it's pro-. It's approximately four tracks listenable it really is I mean the the audacity of stretching this out, and of course, obviously, they're cashing in on the initial hit and they wanted and he continued to for his entire life. So I don't feel bad about saying this our hometown hero Bobby Pickett you. Know. He was able to pay his rent for his entire life never had to struggle You know this continued it obviously holds a place in the Zeitgeist in our collective imaginations. It's clearly important. It's important enough for Wiley to listen to it for an hour and a half for just one song on this album for an hour and a half. So you've gotta give it that amount of credit but. You know it just it's barely an album I mean it's it's barely an album it. It's one of the best albums that we've ever reviewed the funding fairly in album and that's you know it's definitely seen selling. Was it fun? Yes. WAS IT Oddly erotic. Yes To have feelings about the montage, TWA of eager DRAC and Dr Frankenstein. Yes. Explore those feelings further. We'll explore those feelings for on the privacy of my own home but I'm not going to say that this is good. In any way you gave an negative to. Is Really Who let's see sixteen songs are just want to point out to you.

"And what color was the car. Why was the driver in such a hurry. Where was he going. We don't know the answers assist those questions but we can make them up in our heads. That's right we can make them up using our imaginations creative imagination as one of the most powerful tools as we human beings have magic potion worked by making an idea in what some people call the mind's eye but you could call it the mind's ear we can imagine what something something with look like or what it would sound like or feel like or taste like we can imagine how different things might work together in new and different ways ways that maybe no one has even thought of yet these days we watched a lot of television and most television vision programs don't require very much imagination television gives you lots and lots of information and sometimes there's so much going on for your is is that there is no room for imagination but radio is different. All you gather sounds but that's often all you need your your mind's ear hears the sounds and then imagine what is happening just as we did earlier with asanovic's. Here's an example comedian stan freberg. He's going to make a gigantic lake of hot chocolate. They're ingredients just a few sounds and your imagination okay people and now when i give it a q. I want the seven hundred foot mountain of whipped cream to roll into lake michigan which has been drained and filled with hot chocolate. Then the royal canadian air force will fly overhead towing a ten ton mirror she know cherry which will be dropped into the whipped cream for the sharing of twenty five thousand extras all right queue them on nope when you walk twenty-five thousand sharing next drive. "Really appreciate it. That's when it really brings life. Gravitas. I mean, the Hollywood bowl with this full string orchestra for some kid from California as you are. I mean, that's gotta be. That's gotta be absolutely. Yeah. You know, and and we're not we're not traveling with an orchestra for this tour. So we're gonna use an a local orchestra in every city right now of all the things that I could bring up bring this went up. You did a video about a coach press conference in recent days, right, right? Which was absolutely brilliant. Where I it kind of was like a sports comedy, send up version of all the music that you've done in your career did how did you come up with this idea? I wish I could take credit for that. That was actually written for me. And they cast me in it. But it was a it was a lot of fun to do. I got to do my grizzled coach. Did you pull any video of any coaches at all? Or did you? Anyone in particular? After after anybody. I just did my basic grizzled. Angle. Fantastic. Good. It was as if you were like a hall of fame that actually came out there. This is absolutely genius in. I never really played many sports in high school or anything like that. Or did you ever attempt anything here? I wasn't really enter this'll be a big shock you on more of a nerd in high school. Okay. And I I'm pretty ignorant about sports in general. I might be traumatic because like P E was the chance for people to beat up on the nerd kid pick last in gym is already you're saying pretty much you certainly found you're right world. And you've been fantastic about it for so very very long. How did how did you come up with weird who called you weird out for the first time? I think that was freshman year in college. I don't know exactly what the context was. But somebody referred to me as weird, Al. And then I picked it as an air. Name went on to college radio station 'cause everybody has a wacky nicknames. Jerry on the radio, Al seemed appropriate and just kind of stopped. And then you just decided you're going to go with it from here. All the way to now. Yeah. I'm living with. Yes. Unbelievable. It really really re. So when did you get your first break, what was your first break? Well, I real brick probably was getting on the doctor demento show because I was just a teenager of the fourteen fifteen years old, and I sent him tapes in the mail this little cassette tapes of stuff recruited, literally in my bedroom with an accordion, right horrible songs and terribly recorded. But he thought that they were Corky enough or novel enough to to give airtime to so he played them on the radio and encourage me to send more. So the doctor demento show got started. That's amazing. And he's still he's not he's not on terrestrial radio anymore. But he still does a weekly show online on doctor. Who is your greatest musical influences. People that I heard on the dementia show people, you know, from the forties and fifties and sixties like spike Jones and Allan Sherman. Tom lehrer? Stan Freberg people like that out Sherm. He was huge on Allan Sherman had two number one albums within like an eighteen. No three. I think I think three number one eighteen month period of time. I mean, he was unbelievably big run sixty sixty one sixty two so which MU Mitch musician. We'd all Anka faquir on the rich Eisen show, which musician that you sent up in song was the most appreciative. And which one was maybe the least. Well, I mean, I I wouldn't say that anybody who was not appreciate it because they get their permission ahead of time. It's not like it's a big surprise when I'm doing the parody got Michael Jackson's promote. Absolutely. Yeah. Actually do that. Well, you know, I didn't know Michael Jackson. But in contact them the way that you do I went through my manager. And he contacted a Michael Jackson manager publicist or as I don't know. How it worked? It got the Michael any signed off on it.
