"So bills and oilers, you're on. I'm on the oilers so heavy and all these leafs fans coming at me for my comments. Shut up. Holy shit, by the way, talk about getting me to go after you even more. Do you know what you're supposed to do if somebody gives you a nickname that you don't like? You're not supposed to let them know that it bothers you. So now you've dumb fucking leafs morons. Jesus, Christ. Now I know I'm under your skin. I'm coming to get you. You think you can play with the oilers? 7 game series Edmonton Toronto. That's in 5 in Edmonton fucking unbelievable shit kicking. McDavid stomps all over you. It's just it's not even close. I'm an Euler guy. So you want some oiler always an Euler? I've got Euler's jerseys getting sent to me. It's not here yet. I'm gonna rock that next podcast. I mean, I think hymen would end up getting 8 goals in a 5 game series against the leafs. So you went from taking all that energy against the islanders to transferring it over to the well the islanders are probably going to win the cup, but the oilers are too I want to win the cup. Well, I just meant in the sense of like you used to speak that way and bash on the oilers fan base and now you're islanders excuse me, and now you've shifted that over to the leafs. I might have said oilers first off. I meant the islanders to the leafs now. Yeah. I talked to a couple of Euler's fans. A couple of people wrote me, actually, said, hey, oil, those fans don't hate you, man. Always fans don't hate you. And I started thinking like I really actually liked the town. I dog on it too much. I'll go, I'll go to different all those. I don't care. I'll go to the cactus club in the mall. I shot a machine gun in the west 7 tomorrow. How many cities can you say that about? Shooting fucking guns in the mall, I'll go back to Edmonton right now with my family. I'll settle in and my kid will be a stay at home defense that hopefully plays someday. Let me ask you a question. Would you wear square toes square toe dress shoes from Aldo for a year if the Edmonton authors win the Stanley Cup? No, because I've been saying they should win. I should get to where designers sick kicks that make me look awesome. I shouldn't have to wear these pigeons. Okay, how about three shoes? How about I wear a square toe dress shoes on TNT broadcast for a year if the oilers win it? Okay. And if the leafs and if the leafs wouldn't it, I have to every single day of my life when I leave my house where a pink tuxedo for one year. Why did you go so hard? I don't know, because I'm not confident that the leaves aren't winning the car. Oh, I don't know, man. I mean, do you want to start there already? Or we got to get to the we got to start with something that unfortunately tough news? Yeah, yeah, we hate Scott with this shit, but, you know, it's obviously the biggest story in hockey for the last week. Talk about a pathetic organization holy shit. The Chicago Blackhawks yeah, they were the big story this week, of course, the scandal that's been going on there about the unreported sexual assault. Well, the general block law firm, they report dropped on Tuesday and things just got uglier in the words of the law firm. Nothing was done by the by the Blackhawks after all this happened. Less than a half hour later, general manager Stan Bowman was out, as was senior director of hockey administration Al Mac Isaac. They resigned. The team was also fined $2 million. And then on Wednesday, John Doe from the lawsuit, well, that was player Kyle beach. He came forward as John Doe as the personal filed the lawsuit. He did a pretty gut wrenching interview with TSN's request Ted who's done a great job in the reporting on this stuff, by the way. It was really tough to watch, especially when he's asked about the victim who came after him. Just like I said, a gut wrenching thing and then shortly after that, Joel grenville coach Florida that night, a lot of people upset that he was allowed to coach that night he met with Gary bettman Thursday, ended up resigning later in the day. And then Tim shoveled day off, who was the assistant general manager. I basically the lowest man on the totem pole in the room when the meetings were held. He was not disciplined. And Gary bett had, I know people have their quibbles with them. I thought he had a pretty good quote. He said, while on some level, it would be easiest to paint everyone with any association to this terrible matter with a broad rush. I believe fundamental fairness requires more in depth analysis of the role of each person. I thought that was important because I think a lot of people kind of getting thrown out pronoun with a lot of things that people really don't know if you're read any of the report. There was a definite ration on quality about it where everybody should have their own version of their story. So, you know, for people to conclude that someone absolutely did didn't do something. I don't know, I don't know that necessarily the best way to take it. But either way, Joel grenville out Scott Bowman out a huge fucking story, biz, I don't know if you guys, which one of you wants to drive? I got to correct you. Sorry. Kevin shovel day off, not Tim, and it's Stan Bowman and not Scott. So your minus two, but do you want to go ahead?.

"A moment is that for him for anybody, really? Oh, it's huge. I mean, that season, he was in junior hockey. Again, 52 goals and 68 games. He was a very good player, but only plays four games in the AHL. And then it's very hard to make the jump right from junior hockey to the NHL, but him being called up showed what the organization thought of him that they wanted him to be around this big team of Brown the championship culture to get that taste and it pretended that the next year he would have a really good shot of making the roster. So he gets called up Emily. He travels with the team during the Western Conference Finals. And during that time, the full report from the law firm details several interactions that Kyle beach had with Brad Aldrich, the video coach. And many of them are described as Aldridge inviting beach to watch game tape to ostensibly improve his play as performance on the ice in private spaces like a hotel room. And these interactions, they then lead to the abusive incident in question and May 2010. Yeah, so according to the lawsuit, Aldrich invited Kyle to his apartment under the premise that Aldridge would go over some game clips with him. But when Kyle arrived the evening did not go as he expected it to. Both men are interviewed for the report. They both agree there was a sexual encounter that happens. Aldrich says it was completely consensual. While Kyle says it wasn't consensual at all. Each also says that he was physically threatened. He was blocked by the only exit and Aldrich was telling him, you'll never play in the NHL if you don't engage in the sex acts with me and also if you tell anybody. And so beach don't threaten. The idea that Brett Aldrich had power had this status on the team and influence over Kyle beach's career, can you explain how that worked back in 2010 like why did Brad Aldrich have this level of power over him? He's on the coaching staff, and I know a video coach isn't the head coach, or an assistant coach, but it's someone that's around the team all the time and someone that's talking to that head coach and the general manager all of the time. He's about 7 years older than Kyle beach. She was 27 when this happened, Kyle was 20. Brad actually comes from a hockey family. His dad is a long time employee of the sharks organization, been around hockey, his entire life. You know, I've had some conversations with people in hockey this week and a lot of them have pointed out, okay, well, Kyle beach was 20 years old, a big, strong, power forward. How could he have been sexually assaulted by a video coach? Who's a lot smaller in stature. And honestly, those conversations frustrate the heck out of me because it shows that there's just this basic comprehension that a lot of people don't get about power dynamics and about what consent is. It's not always physical force at play. There's other factors such as intimidation, Brad alders threatening his career or coercion, and that seems to be what Kyle felt at this time. And you know, there was rumors around the Blackhawks organization that Aldrich threatened careers in the past. Right in the full report points out that a half dozen witnesses say they had also heard about Aldrich threatening players careers along those lines. And so this traumatic encounter Emily, it happens and who does Kyle beach tell at that point? Who does he go to? So he called a confidante and confidante is interviewed by the Jenner and block investigators. And in that report, he says that when Kyle called him, he was crying. He could barely speak. The confidant was even wondering whether Kyle had gotten into a car accident because he couldn't even catch his breath. But he told him what happened, which is important. And then a couple days after that, Kyle gets the courage to tell Paul Vincent, who is on the Black Hawk staff, what happened? And Paul Vincent reports it up the food chain. And what is the report say about how Brad Aldrich acted in the days and weeks after this? According to the report, Brad Aldrich texted Kyle beach repeatedly. He showed up to the practices that Kyle was at specifically when the main team came off and the black ice is like Kyle, we're still on the ice. And he had to interact with him and face him every single day after this happened. So if Brad Aldrich, his alleged abuser is there in person around him. What does Kyle said about how this affected him as he was going through this? He said he felt extremely alone, and that TSN interview, he talked about feeling fearful, those couple days. It just had his career threatened. So I was scared mostly. I was fearful I had had my career threatened felt alone and dark sorry. It's tough to recall these moments. I think I felt like I was alone and there was nothing I could do and nobody I could turn to for help. So again, Kyle beach had told Paul Vince at a member of the coaching staff. What action was taken by the Blackhawks after Paul Vincent received that knowledge? Right, so Paul Vincent tells his superiors and then before Western Conference final game against the San Jose sharks, there's this meeting of the brain trust in a hotel room. And it involves pretty much all of the senior leadership. Stan Bowman, John McDonough, who is the team president at the time, Jay blanc, who was right under McDonough, Joel grenville, also Kevin shovel day off, who was an assistant GM. He's now the GM of the Winnipeg jets. And basically, they all come together and according to the report, all of these men have given wildly different accounts of what happened in that meeting. But the one thing we know is that nothing came out of that meeting immediately. Brett Aldrich stayed on the staff. He was with the team, not only through the Stanley Cup final, but was given a day with the Stanley Cup was given a Stanley Cup ring, was given his playoff bonuses. Yeah, I mean, the idea that this was all happening while they were on their way to winning the Stanley Cup Emily, how did that influence the decisions that were apparently not being made here? Seem to have influenced it a lot. There's a quote from Stan Bowman in the report, or basically, and I'm paraphrasing here in Joel glenville, the coach says we can't have this distract us. We are too close to the Stanley Cup. We can't address this now. And I think that tells you all you need to know about hockey culture where people will do anything and sacrifice anything to win the Stanley Cup. So all these team leaders knew Emily, did the players know? This is kind of a topic of controversy right now because there's some players on the team, like Nick boyon and Brent sobel who have come on the record and said, everybody knew. Kyle and his interview with TSN said, word spread around the locker room pretty quickly. You've said that some of your teammates after the fact started using homophobic slurs. How soon after the salt was that happening? Word spread pretty quick. I do believe that everybody in that locker room knew about it because of the comments were made in the locker room. They were made on the ice. They were made around the arena with all different people of all different backgrounds, players, staff, media in the presence. But there's other players who said they didn't know, or they didn't know all of the details. Patrick Kane still on the team said he didn't know John Doe was Kyle beach until that day he did the TSN interview. Yeah, I didn't know anything at the time. And, you know, even today, you know, Kyle came out as John Doe. That's the first time I knew that it was that I was him. So as far as the bullying and different comments, I don't remember any of that either. Or Jonathan tays. He was the captain in 2010 and still as the captain now said he didn't hear about the incident until the following training camp. And even then he still didn't hear all of it or the gory details as he put it. But according to the report, when Kyle did show up for that next training camp, there were some teammates who teased him and bullied him and said homophobic slurs on the ice towards him because of this allegation. And that's just really hard to hear. So.

It's all gross and You know do you think of these people today. Oh my god they. They're gonna feel the worst out of all of us. You know When when they look back at this single jesus man. What's happened over the last ten years you know. Wait till more and more victims come. Forward seat is no doubt in my mind. If they're they're repeat offenders often right with these things so now. What's going to happen that you know that. This occurred in nine or twenty ten. Well we know this guy never another. Nhl job he did. Go onto another hockey job and There was an assault and he went to jail for four years. The coach in question and so Yeah the the hawks who had a chance to do something about it you know. Stop in his tracks while he was still a member of the hawks they instead sent him on his way with a letter of reference. So he's that's That's is complicit as you can be without actually doing the act. I think that's enough of that talk. That's a that's that's a grim grim discussion as well. It's been a lot of grimness between the columbus story in this one Let's wrap it up today. Any final thoughts. Maybe a little a little levity inserted into the it can just throw a commercial spot in here somewhere. I do it announced it. Can you play music something. And the only thing. I have t- keyed up right now is the is. The is the rim shot. So that doesn't get all that's totally northern. That's not a good idea. Don't take that one back. Do a reverse rim shot. "As we speak right now and there's some really interesting information coming out as we speak and the whole thing is to discuss the findings of a now concluded independent investigation into allegations that a former hawke assistant coach sexually assaulted to chicago. Blackhawks players back in twenty ten to lawsuits were filed against the team earlier this year. The first alleging sexual assault by then video coach brad aldridge during the team's run to the two thousand ten stanley cup title. The second filed by a former student whom aldrich was later convicted of assaulting in michigan. And i guess as aldrich left the hawks. The hawks even went so far as to give a letter of reference to this guy that helped him get this second job later on. So it's a it's a real bee's nest of story rick westhead from. Tsn has been all over it and the latest is jimmy as we speak right now. It's all kind of trickling out stan. Bowman has now resigned as gm of the chicago blackhawks. One of the investigators says failing to report the alleged assault had consequences after deciding not to do anything to address. The allegations rat aldrich later made sexual advances on a twenty two year old intern with the nhl club and The investigator also says officials held a may twenty ten meeting to discuss the allegations of assault sexual assault. Those present included john. Mcdonough stand bowman. Joel quenneville is now head. Coach in florida. Kevin chevrolet off. Who's now the gm of the winnipeg jets and some guy named jay blunk. Oh i don't know who that is and against the investigators lined up one hundred thirty nine witnesses including twenty one players and five of nine black aces who were called up by the team. So a very thorough investigation has now led and bowman resigning from the blackhawks. It'll be kind of interesting now. Jim if this kind of spills out to the likes of joel quenneville and kevin chevrolet often and maybe some other people too. I read that this morning. And i'm almost i couldn't even repeat it. What this guy did to this. Inter- send i think sandusky is the worst example. Ever demand was was not michigan state or notre dame. No joe paternal is assistant coach at penn state. Yeah and that was the the first of exactly what you're talking about here right where these people came forward..

"Most people would know this story by now in the off season. I guess it was back in and around july fourth. There was a party at the columbus. Blue jackets assistant coach. Manny legace and his daughter was getting married and so there was a team party at the same time and matisse kev lennox basically had there was a guest at the party a functioning firework that ended up starting to shoot at everybody in a hot tub and kev lennox and a stood up and apparently shielded some of his friends and took one of the fireworks right in the chest and was killed as a terrible terrible story really tragic for the columbus blue jackets and their families. But i guess I guess the dallas stars when they were hosting the columbus blue jackets a stars. Fan taunted goalie elvis. Moore's lincoln's about the death of his friend matisse give lennox and right now the stars are trying to identify the fan there live about something like that occurring but It's just so sad that there people in the world that are like that. What are we talk about. Yesterday was something else that really was alec baldwin. that's that donald trump junior came out with a shirt that saying guns don't kill people alec baldwin kills people. That's exactly it and it just easing to me. That i mean that people like that walked the earth that that's cool to do stuff like that and this is in that same category you to get inside the guy's mind okay. Walk me through. This walked me through. I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt. Okay from what you said. I don't know what he said. Steve i don't think it says what he said but no anyway. It was obviously serious enough that they wanna find out who find this guy right sort of hate crime almost so you know i want to sit down with the guy and go. I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt. Give me one. One reason that i might think it was okay for you to do that. Yeah i mean one thought that was in your head. You know walked me through that. Walk me through that when you decided to say what you did do you. And i'm i'm. I'm i'm guessing. Steve i will not hear one thing from that guy. Yup well i thought it would. I thought it would be funny. No no no no. That's not going to do you know i'm a fan. I'm allowed to say whatever i want. No no you're not no. You're not not without repercussions certainly the freedom of speech protects you from being incarcerated going to jail but.

"If you're letting that one go. Yeah we sit you. We'll sit with pay but your shitty and if the league's not all over wise in the nhl pa over it. It's their people. Their members that aren't being kept safe by this particular referee and and his lack of decision-making let me ask you this jimmy if you're a head coach in the nhl in. Nick paul is your player and he's just been run like alex ovechkin ran him. Would you tell them to. Maybe change what he did. Because nick paul got up right away after the big hit he got popped up right away maybe if he lies down and has a sixty second nap. Maybe the sends get the benefit of the doubt. That maybe you've got five in a game. Alex ovechkin is out of the hockey game and he's not scoring a huge goal later in the contest. So would you tell your players to stay down or would you go. Some people might suggest is the more honorable route and do exactly what nick paul did. Well yeah because a player doesn't want to do that right. There tough right so i get with a guy jumps up and gets back into the play. There's two things there. It's a good question that you bring up one is if the guy does jump up right away okay. And they're still no call now. You're now you're you're you're kind of promoting this idea of make sure you lie down all the time right and that's no good right. That's no good. So coach looks at this thing is okay. I know we'll do okay. We're gonna collapse at every hit even if even if i don't need to write the other problem with this one. Stevie is no problem if this thing gets reviewed and there's there's no penalty boy that cracks open a huge can of worms here stevie with what what the future games are gonna look like right. It's like the precedents. If i get called on the carpet about a dirty hit or hitting from behind stevie i got that video in my pocket. Okay and i'm holding my phone and shoving it into the face of george barrels right okay going just have a look at this before you and i talk about anything. Okay have look at this. Yeah you guys did nothing. You guys did nothing. So don't call me onto the carpet here right. And that's the problem with that if they don't make some sort of suspension say no i. It's a really interesting scenario and be interesting to see if it has any of that kind of effect on things but it certainly was frustrating for fans to have to watch that the league's got to be better at that and You know. I almost did the motive. You've got challenges. You've got video replay. Maybe it's a scenario where you allow for a challenge once or twice a game. Whatever you decide on to challenge anything that you feel like that happened that that could have really hurt my player and it should have been five and a game and that really would help their hockey club. Maybe you just go ahead and let anybody challenge anything at anytime but you put an absolute cap on. It is only once or twice a game where those sorts of things occur. So i would rather see that kind of thing than the off. Side challenge being an automatic kind of review. So yeah let's. I wanted one more hockey thing. What was it here Yeah it's an awful situation. So the columbus blue jackets had the tragedy of goaltender matisse kev lennox..

"That there there might be an occasion here to to throw the book at the guy that they won't is is i guess protecting the refs and i get that right. I get that you can't undermine them all the time you don't want to give him this habit of video being sent in every second game and these guys going against what the call was right. It's just not gonna. It's not realistic. I gonna protect the referee. They're gonna they're gonna side on the on you know on the refs towards refs so but this one holy man you know. I don't know what happened. Did he get he. Did he get he didn't get a penalty. Did not even a two minute minor for boarding or anything like that and to your point about making a challengeable. i mean. that's if you're ever going to challenge anything. Something that calls into question player safety were a guy could have got badly maimed. That's that's where you should have challenges. Not on offsides in where guys at millimeter offside fifteen minutes before a goal ends up later being scored has nothing to do with anything. It def- it defies logic to me. It certainly lends some credibility to the thought. A lot of fans have that there are different rules for different players. It's nick paul hitting the superstar. Alex skin you can be damned sure that we're getting a call there so that's one angle. I would like to see a couple of things here. And i'd like to see referees. Be made available to the media at the very least a press. Release after the fact i wanna know. I'm really curious to know how any referee could look at that. And there wasn't anything between him and the hit he's looking right at it. He's ten feet away and he basically said to himself. Yeah that's good. Hit play on boys. I mean come on a need. I need an explanation. Anita i need you to convince me that you belong in the nhl if you think that is cool. That's totally fine with you because there's two things that referee needs to do in the game and that's keep the game fair but way more importantly player safety and that referee failed badly on both counts. Yeah so what do you do right. You have you have to overturn. You've got interrupt you've got you've got a review and look at this thing and gone okay. The guy missed it okay. So here's what's going to happen. We got we got a suspended for two games. Three games or something something they gotta do. Your right gets complicated. wanna superstar. They they get a lot. You get a lot wider berth than anybody else.

"Ninety four yeah And then he was toted as as going to be a touted as going to be a front office guy for the rangers right. It made all sorts of sense. He had a mentor. And glenn there to sort of take it over you know of some people were saying. Well he hasn't. He hasn't really done anything outside. Playing you know should be writing the gm role and and everyone thought he. Should you know that he would be able to do it. And so that kind of that kind of faded away and then a couple years ago. He got vocal about it. Yeah yeah he said. I'll i'm here on my my phone's open. You know i'll take the call. I'm ready to do whatever for the rangers and nothing came of that. Nothing came of that. I heard rumor maybe The buffalo job at the time maybe should take anyway. He'll talk all about that. What are the interesting things to is the He talks about the mistakes. He made in vancouver. I read a little bit about it this morning. And it's going to be in that book so anyway i don't request i don't i don't tell people many books because i don't know i haven't i haven't read a bunch of great ones but this one i would. I would recommend anyone was into sports. Yup and reading about sports and grab this book for sure. Great player great leader but also one of the most terrifying guys on the ice whether you wanna fight whether it's hitting and Well he wasn't the cleanest hockey player. No one ever thought about mark as a lady being candidate. And that's where i wanna start. Today there was a hit last night as we're recording this the monday night game between the ottawa senators and the washington capitals really good hockey game. By the way as an aside is when it seven five they storm out to a four one lead the sense storm back to tie the game at four and then he's kind of back and forth after that in capital sold on for a seven five victory and I would say right now. The sends their blue line puck handling could use a little work and it was kinda really exposed against the capitals but it was hidden in the game..

James how are you today. We have a theme song for gore. was there. i don't always started the show. Was there big opening music. I forget in the very early days. No i'm trying to think of some of the. Oh i know what it was. The the gm firing me. That was the last music. I heard he called me on the phone and it was on the speaker. Nah i don't have to take those complaint calls anymore. That's the most i ever heard from the guy dome. Yeah not the most social you will ever come across. There's no doubt about that anyway. I see stevie today lots to talk about. It's the one sportsbook. I might read. I don't get. I get sent a lot. I get told about a lot of books. "Back into ESPN 1000 happy and set up. We invite you to join the conversation. 3123323776 talking about the Blackhawks right now. A couple days ago, it was announced that J. Blunk and James Gary depart. New management shifts. Focus. We know Danny works. Took over the team from Rocky in December of 2020. They're going to have a lot of focus on attracting younger fans, Brian and then obviously we have the backdrop of the scandal. The background while there is an investigation going on right now, and then all the off season moves on the ice. We have Dave from Elmwood Park. Joining us here this morning on ESPN. You're with Hanley and Xander. Hey, Dave. Good morning. I been listening in intently to your talked about the Blackhawks scandal. And it doesn't bother me one iota in terms of my enjoyment as a fan, because, unfortunately, just because somebody files a lawsuit doesn't mean it's gospel truth. And people in these contexts always states about change and dignity, but it's really about money. And I think that if we give it credence or even cover it, you know we might be actually aiding and abetting a shaped out of the words family and, uh, So I just tune it out completely. Interesting Take. Yes, that is I mean, the media has to cover that. It's a story. That's what the media does, but it's up to the end user to use it as they will. Is is bad. Dave is the allegations are against the player on the roster. Um, from the video coach at the time taking allegedly taking advantage and every you know the reporting is everyone on the team was well aware of what the player was saying took place. To the point where he was being insulted. And, Yeah, yeah, chided about it. The the further one. I don't know what you feel the same way if you were the father of the high school player that this guy went on to coach in Michigan. And he was convicted of sexual assault there. If, in fact as alleged the Blackhawks gave, uh Bradley Aldrich a glowing report and recommendation to be hired as a volunteer coach, which would you have that? With you know was is a shakedown. Then if you had to deal with the son who had been a victim of that To the father of the son? No. But one of the plaintiffs lawyers trying to get the Blackhearts to waive part of their statue limitations defenses under some, you know, it's just the right thing to do. But their lawyer is not going to wave her feet. So you see, a lot of this is painted, and I think the media is literally aiding and abetting a plaintiff's complex. By just going on and on and on. Unrelated. I saw Michigan State Northwestern, and I have never heard Beth balance before her voice is so shrill and unpleasant. I literally watched the video, but I turned on Dave Emmett and Ted Albrecht. I'm not anti woman, but her voice is like fingernails on a truck board. I don't know how she got to the broadcasting. I don't know. All right, Dave. Yeah. Alright, Dave. Well, thanks. Thanks for the call Dave and and Davis World Class and Ted. They've been doing it forever. So I mean, it's a It's a great broadcast team. Um, interesting Take, though, that it's a shakedown. And here's the thing Mark. We don't know what we don't know, but if you believe, and there's a lot we don't know. Well, I tell you, I want to believe that the Blackhawks firing, I think was General block one of big law firms in town to do it pay and what they termed the independent investigation as to how they handle this situation. Hopefully it is, in fact independent even though they are paying for the investigation and spending a lot of money. I would imagine. Hopefully, uh, I don't I will. They keep that report in house. Will they reveal the results of it? Well, remember, they did. They did make a statement saying that they will be transparent. What does that really mean? How deep does that transparency go? That will be the question And look we can get. I mean, you know, we can go down the rabbit hole of this whole thing about. Well, lawyers are involved that lawyers charge money. You know, we don't need to go there. Look, there are some horrible allegations. Going on, and we need to know if there was a cover up because that is going to. Unfortunately Paint. What happened in 2010? It just will. Yes, and again to a certain degree, right, and that's up to the end user. Well and again. I don't know how many Blackhawks fans sure Dave's perspective on it, But it is his perspective. I'm glad he weighed in 3123323776, but you're you said season ticket holder in the eighties. I'm sure you're still a heart and soul Passionate Hawks fan whether you have season tickets or not, Um were you surprised that the chase seeming the change of direction and aggressiveness of this offseason with Stan Bowman and the team? Yeah, I definitely was, um You know, I I applaud stand in the moves that he made will see if they're the right moves, You know, both short term and long term. But it was a bit of a surprise. And you know you wonder in the background. They said it was part of a rebuild, right. And then all of sudden, we just hit another gear. It's as if he was shifting from first to force. Yeah, you know, he didn't hit 2nd and 3rd. So you've got to wonder. And again does all of this background noise. You will contribute to this but to stand all of sudden feel like he's got to make an immediate impact right now. For his future..

"Is a coincidence whatsoever that today is the day the Blackhawks come out and say, You know what? We have an external investigation. It's going to be very thorough. It's going to be totally separate from other people with no ties. The Blackhawks Because Gary Bettman is just going to defer to that refer to that kind of hide behind that, and we'll see what comes from that. What do you make of the way that the Blackhawks are now addressing it? Clearly there were issues in the past. But now having an independent review of the situation, what do you make of what the Hawks announced today? I think that would be complete appropriate stuff, especially because we hear the names of the people involved with this minus Donna McDonough. Those are people that are still within the organization today, and I don't think there's any way that you could do this fairly if it's conducted in house. Even with the NHL conducting a review. I think that there would always be that cloud of doubt of bias that may be seeing what they want to see. But if they're really, really serious about finding the truth and understanding Is this as bad as it seems, who should be culpable? I think they absolutely made the right step with hiring a former federal prosecutor the wrong message. Talking to NHL insider Emily Kaplan. Who's uh your You still live in Chicago, don't you, Emily? I do when I'm not traveling on the road to Vegas and Tampa. I reside in Chicago, and so she's a Chicago and so what do you think is more likely? If they do really get to the bottom of this? Do they scapegoat John McDonough as the All Mighty president, who told them not to do it, or do you think Stan Bowman could lose his job? I don't want to speculate. I do know that, you know, then, uh, well, John McDonough has been gone for what a year now and you know, there has been things and whispers ever behind the things we're like, Well, he was the old school way of doing things and now we're new, and that's cured to an extent. But there's still a lot of folks that have been around for a long time, and we're part of that McDonough regime and remember that regime also include a ton of success on and off the ice. I do think just because Stan Bowman's name has been so publicly attached to this. There's going to be a lot of scrutiny on him. And you know, in the next couple weeks, we're in a period where he's going to be very visible were about you know, after the Stanley Cup final, we're going to have the entry draft and we have the expansion draft. And they're all things that the GM has to be to speak on that there's free agency that it's next season. And so I do expect some kind of resolution soon, and I do expect to be very uncomfortable for stand in the meantime. All right. So what time does Bettman speak in 90? Seconds. Okay, Go ahead. Thank you. I appreciate your time. There you go. Real life coverage right there. She's live from the press Conference Cup final about to begin and you know like this scandal. This is a major story that also has tentacles all throughout the league because we re reference multiple times the success. The Blackhawks organization while this was going on, and what happens was successful organizations, members get pulled to different places. And now this story isn't just a local Chicago Blackhawks story. This is a story that then incorporates other teams. Other franchises NHL Overall. Marc Bergevin is the he was with the Blackhawks when this happened and he was asked about it yesterday. You understand what I'm wearing coming from on Susanna Collins, right, Like here they were outraged. The Oh my gosh, We can't have someone say sex in our air. Meantime, there was a sexual assault and they turned a blind eye. How hypocritical Can you get it? It's more than that, though, Sylvia because we've heard countless stories behind the scenes about how buttoned up the organization has been, and just how, like straight laced they've always been. But then, as soon as something happens that would make them look bad. It seems like allegedly they They're sweeping it under the rug. Yeah, Yeah. The Susannah Collins thing. The thing that really annoyed me with that situation, she is so talented. She was a rising star in this business and in this city is that baby They used improv sketch comedy that she was doing before she got on TV as a strike against her when any person trying to make it trying to get into television trying like she wasn't doing anything inappropriate. "I wanted to start this podcast with a statement on a serious topic. The chicago blackhawks. Some of you have asked whether it's on twitter direct message direct message on instagram. Why i didn't address this topic earlier. I certainly inouye doubt the excellent reporting by tony arnold of wbz radio in chicago. Who broke the story the athletics katie's strang anyone else. It's pretty simple though. I wanted to spend a few extra days doing my own work and my own research just to be sure about a couple of things plus felt using the opening of the podcast and blog. Which will drop monday as a much better place to coherently outlined my thinking instead of on twitter. Things just get mangled sometimes on twitter. There's always what you see and hear out there and what you don't see or hear out there in stories like this one. There's always things that reporters our sources can't or don't print or say and i wonder what those things could be. The accusations are ugly. And what i want to make clear. Is that the people. I spoke to bent over backwards. They took pains to support. Paul vincent the skills coach from two thousand ten who reported the abuses senior management. For that reason. I feel very strongly that however the legal process concludes the blackhawks must come clean and detail what happened. I believe the team and its employees have been told to keep quiet. Not say a word. It's led to a lot of rumors about what punishment could happen but right now. It's all speculation as was several other reporters. The nhl declined comment to me. It's not unusual. It can happen. And i've learned also don't do anything when the league says no on something. What stood out to me was commissioner bill. Daly statement to the athletic. He wrote quote. We have been in contact with the club regarding the matter but there is no ongoing investigation. We do not have any further comment at this time. Dailies a smart lawyer. He includes nothing without reason. No ongoing investigation does that mean no investigation at all there will be an investigation or there already was one. It's open ended. And i wonder at this time. Will that says to me. Don't assume there won't be any statement or consequences sometime in the future. My question is the timeline. Generally when something is in litigation results are slow. If you've ever dealt with the law it doesn't move quickly and defendants aren't going to give away anything. That's going to hurt them in court but and this is a big to me but we are at a time in the nhl. Calendar were hockey. Operations is front and center gm. Stan bowman would be active. During both expansion and entry draft preparations there would be multiple media availabilities. He and the blackhawks will not be able to avoid tough questions. Also commissioner gary bettman will undoubtedly be asked about this during his annual pre stanley cup. Game one conference monday night. No matter the eventual outcome. There must be clarity. We need to know what happened here so we can make sure it never happens again. Nothing else will be accepted and nothing else will be acceptable. Jeff do you have anything. You'd like to add further. What elliott just said. I to agree. The blackhawks need to come clean about what happened. I've covered junior hockey for most of my professional career and stories. Like this as we all know have been all too common. It's ruined careers and more importantly it's destroyed lives. I grew up in toronto Stories of sexual abuse of maple leaf gardens were both disgusting. And also heartbreaking. The published details in this case are horrifying and revolting and any guilty party needs to be dealt with in a serious and significant way. This is at all levels as well. The legal process in this case will play itself out as elliot mentioned and we shouldn't be surprised at any lack of transparency. Along the way that's a legal reality and we may have to be settled with this not arriving at a conclusion that gives anyone satisfaction or any sense of closure either but like to ask you to consider what this means hockey right now. I don't need to remind you. This is a huge story with enormous implications. Here's something i do know. There are ugly truths hidden in the history of this game. And as much as we insist that the blackhawks make good. I would also put forward that other teams and the league along with the players. Association need to do the same and go through a thorough review of how they operate and how they've operated. Some are already doing this. Some stories exist in whispers and will always remain a secret while others are more out in the open an obvious choose not to see them and we all know the conversations are coming. Nhl executive vp. Kim davis joined the nhl telling everyone around her to quote. Get comfortable being uncomfortable for me. That means questioning what we celebrate and cherish in the game of hockey at encourage everyone who hears us to think about the people that say trophies are named. after who were they. What did they stand for. What did they do outside of shuffling along a block of ice. Learn the history of this game how it started why it started and who's been involved along the way and also this is a big one. Consider the statues outside arenas and ask yourself while the player may deserve to be. There does the person there's an old saying. Great men are seldom goodman. That's true in life and sports and certainly true in heart. Okay elliott the stanley cup. Final is all set. It's the defending stanley cup. Champion tampa bay lightning and as. We all predicted the montreal canadiens. Now we dealt with the halves on on the last podcast tampa defeats the islanders in game. Seven one. Nothing other shadowed for andrei vasilevskiy will deal with the The followed now for the islanders. And what's next for lou lamoriello squad but it's tampa it's it all gets underway on monday. I spent the rest of my time dumping on the canadians because it seems to work for them. Look i got to say it's amazing. It's it's an incredible story it really is. I still in some ways can't believe it but again they've earned their way hear people say oh. This is a fluke. It's the canadian division. I don't want to hear any of that garbage. If you win three rounds to make the stanley cup final you have earned your place in the in the final the. I don't care what anybody else says. The canadians have earned their way to be here. And and roger suzie. I'm doing this for you. And all the montreal fans they are no longer islanders light. They are islanders extra strength. They wine new york gave it everything they had came up agonizingly short they are now islanders extra strength and to me kucherov. Health is a big deal. But the thing tamp is they can play you any way you wanna play uptempo up temple the you wanna play tight and tough and grinding dirty. They can play you that way to you. Know it's interesting to me like garry. Galley and i had a big conversation. I pointed out in game seven the first intermission of game seven of islanders tampa that the islanders gave kucherov a more genteel ride than i thought he was gonna. I thought he was going to get some extra shots you know. Whenever he got engaged they give him the extra bombed the elbow. The crosscheck here in there. They weren't doing that. And gary thought he wondered if the islanders were told or were warned by even by their own coaches or anyone else. If you guys go after kucherov they're going to be looking for it. Montreal will not be like that. They will be harder on him. Look i think vassilev skin price. Great goaltending.

"They think secret. We can't let that get out. We've got a really good team here. We're not going to press charges. We'll give him a recommendation and send him on his merry way. Well, then he becomes high school assistant. He molests a kid who was 16 years old. That Man. He's now several years out of high school. He and his family are suing the Blackhawks, saying You did nothing about that guy. You even gave him a recommendation letter and send him on his merry way. And guess what Our kid got molested because of it, And that's the part that should not be glossed over. I think that the Blackhawks allegedly the story is alleged, right are guilty on many fronts. But the one is a parent that gets me the most is So they fire him after the season. They don't go to the police, and they let him get a job with minors. So allegedly they know what he's doing, and they still allow him to get a job with minors. That makes me so sick to my stomach. It's awful if that if that's these stories that we are reading are true. That is just awful and again, Cap. Look at it. If you're at the top of the food chain, if you're the top guy, the Blackhawks, right, you know that guy your housing allegedly in a sexual predator. Within your organization, right? Well, if you know about it, you say something right, saying nothing means that you're complicit. You're not 100% open up, but the point is, I was like if you're at the top, right, And you know, this guy is within your organization. No one snatching championships. No one takes away the parade and everything you had as a team. Actually, you'd be celebrated for be able to speak out and say, You know what? We didn't know this now that we know it. We're putting this guy behind bars or whatever the legal system. It goes to when it comes to stories like this. Okay? Here would be my question to any of those people in upper management there that knew this happened and did nothing about it. Other than forcing them away from the organization to give to give him another job. Correct. So if your kid was a student at that high school playing hockey, and that guy joined the staff, would you be okay with it? The answer is no chance. No shot. You would absolutely go. Whoa, whoa, whoa. That guy can't be coaching my kid. But because it was someone else's kid. You turned a blind eye to it because you didn't want to get your organization tarnished. And shame on But if you say something, you wouldn't be tarnished. That's the whole thing. Correct but receive. This is the same example of that we've had with the Penn State's and the Michigan and all the others in the Ohio State. Uh, with all these problems have come up a lot in sport in which you say Well You know if people think that we're housing a sexual predator. If we have someone that's done something wrong, that's going to be a, uh, it's going to be tarnishing our legacy. Our our organization. No, it won't because at least you said something. If you say something no one's taking any championships away. No one thinks less of you. You did something about it. That's the thing, but they always panicked. Those like well, we got just pushed this guy to another organization. We're gonna put them someplace else because we can't have that on our record. Well, it's part of your records, but you're trying to clean it. You're trying to say we don't. We don't tolerate this in our organization. We're doing something about it. We're speaking out about it. Okay. So after they win the cup Before the buses pull out. Remember all the news coverage every chance? Yeah, Every channel is there. Oh, my goodness. The Blackhawks won a Stanley Cup for the first time since 1961. And they took a team photo with the cop and the whole deal. Go Google it. Everybody Google the 2010 picture right before the parade. That Predator alleged. No, he's not alleged because he he was convicted. Yes, that predator Brad Aldrich is in the photo. You allowed him to take an iconic photo with your team, knowing he's a freaking predator? So shame on you. So quite frankly, I don't know how Stan Bowman and Al McKissick are still with the organization this morning. I don't either. I don't understand how you can not issue a statement, at least. Let alone a press conference and have Rocky and Danny, sit up there and go. Obviously we knew nothing about this. We will get to the bottom of it. This is horrific. This can never happen again. We are commissioning. Whoever it is Dan Webb pick one of the Pat Fitzgerald. He's got carte blanche. You talked to anyone you want. You turn over any rock you want. We're getting to the bottom of this because it will never happen again. On our watch. I see what happens, Cap, the more your mom, the more you don't say anything, the more you're like, Oh, well, we don't mind this because this is part of our culture isn't really part of your culture. Because if you don't say anything clearly, you're okay with it Correct. You know, it's not a PR situation when you sit there with the PR steps, like well, how we handle this. How do you handle it? How about how about with some common sense? Hell would common sense. Like we should have had that gun organization. We apologize. Or say something, but just don't sit there on your hands and say we're the Blackhawks. No one's going to notice or we notice the athletic and others have done a great job of covering this. You cannot and again. We're talking about this because we're in sports, but it happens every day Sexual assault. It happens every day. And in this situation it happens to hockey players are people within the yard and these organizations. It's not just the NHL. It's a hockey issue. That continues to be reported. Go just go through and just do a Google search or how many times we have seen this kind of abuse, emotional sexual in hockey, a youth hockey. It's problem is problematic. I interviewed you mentioned him. Theo Fleury came in. He put a book out about how he was. It was a star how he was molested in junior hockey ranks. Didn't want to say anything because he was embarrassed. How it affected him, and he became a problem drinker. All of it, and the guy was an amazing hockey player. Another player on the 2010 Chicago Championship team, Nick Boynton. Yep, said Vincent made it clear to players during the San Jose series that he would alert upper management about the allegations. Boynton said players trusted that Vincent would handle the matter appropriately, given his background he was previously before joining the Hawks. In law enforcement, and Boynton believes Vincent's account that he did indeed tell his superiors they needed to go to police. I trust Vincent over the front office point and said, he's a stand up guy. That's Mm hmm. And the last thing I'll read to you The unnamed player who corroborated a lot of this says it doesn't bother me that they let him take pictures with the Cup. The 2010 Blackhawks players said. What bothers me is they fired him. But they didn't take it to the cops. They let him get a job with an under 18 youth team. They let him go work with minors. Would they let it happen? Yes, with the knowledge of knowing that you have a sexual predator allegedly in your organization is not even alleged because you mentioned he was he was charged. Yes. So I mean, But just because it's part of the culture in some, uh in some corners of hockey doesn't mean that you have to allow to your organization to know that John McDonald may have known it and the and Stan Bowman McKusick that front office. The players all knew it and they're like, Yeah, you know, he's a sexual predator. So, but he's part of our team. You don't welcome him in. I'm not gonna do that. I'm not a lawyer. My late father was I can just tell you that if I was the guy argue in that case.

"These kind of let the foot off the gas a little bit once the playoff possibly is pretty much flat line here. Let's sneak Joe from Jefferson Park in It's the hockey Show on ESPN. 1000. Good Morning, Joe. How are you? Morning, fellas. I just had an interesting question. You know what? This, uh, pandemic and everything going on? You think the Hawks they're going to be in the same division and they're they're going to keep the same format. Next year. No, I think they'll go back to their normal central division. And I think you'll you'll see, I think you might see a tweak in How these games are played on the road. I think they might take Ah little bit of this year where you play back to back games in a city and limit some of the traveling But you know the Hawks They'll be in the central Division along with ST Louis, Colorado, Dallas, Nashville, Winnipeg in Minnesota, and by the way if you take a look at those teams this year Could be one hell of a tuft of it. I mean, Minnesota's improved Winnipeg is improved. We've seen Nashville. You know, the Hawks only have one win against them. Dallas, of course, is in the running for Ah, Final playoff spot here in the current Central in Colorado and ST Louis. It's so it's not gonna be an easy task. You thought it was hard going up against Tampa, Florida Carolina, You take a look at that central division that they're going to go back into next year, Brian that that's going to be tough sledding. Yeah, You mentioned it. When Minnesota we talked about this sort of being on that streaking said Okay, you know, be careful for what you wish preserve coming right back in the division. And I know Stan Bowman told us that he told the powers that be when they asked what what he would do and he was all for sticking around. In the same city for an extra day, right or two games instead of one. And instead of moving teams around, Obviously you're gonna go back to more traditional divisions. You're going to get You know a full smorgasbord of teams coming through the United Center and the Hawks. They're going to go to all the different outposts. You're not gonna have the Canadian teams playing each other like they did this year. But that one aspect of it I like that that kind of two games serious miniseries for each stop because I think it makes a lot of sense coming up. Which of the minds that be of this Black Hawks team. What to make of Blackhawks moves on NHL trade deadline day

"And talk a little bit more about what the Blackhawks did we bring in Charlie a room only autos from Anna corona hotline from N. B. C. sports Chicago Charlie how are you tonight Fred you nailed my last name they're not a lot of people can do that on the first try well I've been I've said it three times during the show so I try to get it right it is actually the more you look at it the more it is exactly like it's spelled sell it all but that is I'm I'm sure I'm sure you've got a letter from cap though well yeah well I in everything we've all got lessons from cap have only let's be honest yeah yeah we generally did did the Blackhawks get get done what they wanted to do today I think the goal and Stan Bowman even said this in a conference call it should basically recruit some of those graphics that they gave up for the end you're salty on it and try to get a you know they got a goal tender in return in a defenseman prospect but I think if you put them on a lie detector test or some truth serum okay perfect probably would have loved to get a first round pick out of out of today is that the reality is the market wasn't really to their favorite like six six first round picks removed in the month of February and neither one of those picks removed for rental so the Blackhawks moved to other youth expiring USA then they got a second round pick in the end plus prospects and then a third round pick forgot to send in a little bit underwhelming but you know that's what the market dictated it's interesting you bring that up Charlie because I guess the question at this point that is do you think the hawks waited too long in determining whether or not they were to sell it because obviously they had a little run there you know in the end of the at the end of December and January what it felt like they were getting hot do you think they maybe put too much stock in the fact that they were playing well but you know at the same time they they were still on the outside looking in it when when you're finally you know got around to the trade deadline here yeah it it's a good point and you wonder if the the blackouts could have gotten more for robin Lehner if they had treated him earlier but at the same time went when they come out of that bye week and they come out with a big win against Arizona like if they had it really had quite off type vibes where this team was close to knocking on the door and then you go on that five game western Canada trip and if you take care of business there like you're you're probably gonna be about a playoff spot if you pick up six seven point six or eight points on that trip and and that the fact they only picked up a few things started to spiral then obviously the we saw a lot of trade happened last week where a lot of defenseman got moved in and you wondered if the Blackhawks were gonna pull the trigger on America if it's been deleted get out in front of that but they stayed patient and I don't know if they were trying to package and Eric Gustafson with another asset like a robin letter to try all the packaging of the return and try to get that first round pick that they're covering but unfortunately they weren't able to make it happen Charlie you mentioned letter there and I think a lot of hawks fans are wondering he he will reportedly he was willing to consider a three year deal with the hawks now you know I don't know if we've seen confirmation of that report but it's out there that robin Lehner was willing to potentially talk a three year deal with the hawks do you think that something that was truly in their interest or do you think they just don't want to be locked up long term with robin Lehner due to maybe a quirky history to say the least well I I'm not sure about it because robin Lehner is on record saying that he didn't want to take a discount like you felt like you wanted to be paid market value and and he deserves that what whatever he was asking for he deserves what he wants and if the Blackhawks were gonna offer him he offered what he wanted like he had every right to take it to and and has every right to take it to the summer and get exactly what he's looking for the the fact that if you know the Hawkins did offer a three year deal letter would have been willing to take lasted it do a three year deal I feel like the team would have pulled the trigger on it because I I don't know necessarily if they were looking to try a lot of money and term to to robin letter because that's just not exactly how they operate in it we see all around the NHL now teams are very reluctant to give big contracts to goaltender than in the Florida Panthers are seeing it right now they they find Sir David Gonski two an eight year contract worth ten point five million dollars and he has been performing this season so I think maybe that's also what is scaring off the hawks and wanted to have that type of security with the goaltender another couple minutes where's Charlie Roumeliotis from the Blackhawks insider at NBC sports Chicago the guys they get back for a for a letter is is that yes they need to get some names back or is to Bangor to be their back up for the rest of the season or what you know what's going on yeah I imagine so I read in Markham Sudan will be the Blackhawks is back up you know barring any injuries and I know the Blackhawks do have calling deleon Kevin Lincoln in downtown Rockford who have both been playing really well like Kevin like that had a really good start to the season that now his play has tailed off Collin Delia really struggled at the beginning of the year and now he's been really good so if you have two young goaltenders in Rockford but I imagine now comes through and it's probably gonna be grooms here said to either be the backup going forward at least for the rest of the season and then we'll see beyond this year Charlie do you think a Jonathan Tay's will finish his career with the Blackhawks there's been rumblings are speculation mostly from fans that you know he could be somebody down the line the hawks might consider moving if they they were able to get a hall for him but to me Jonathan tapes just seems like the type of player who gently down the Blackhawks want retiring in a Blackhawks Jersey yes absolutely and I I don't blame Patrick Kane Jonathan three Duncan Keith those core players I don't blame them for being frustrated like they want to win in Chicago but the the problem is if they don't want to go somewhere else to win another ring like their soul that and they have no movement clauses in their contracts read that they want to spend the rest of your career here in Chicago and they want to win the Stanley Cup again in Chicago so I don't see that it man it would be if thirteen is out of date senior retired Black Hawk that it wouldn't feel right if they if they went somewhere else Charlie one last quick one for you what is the biggest need for the hawks this offseason to try and get them back on track and into the playoff conversation next year yes hi it's tough because you kind of want to see how this you know they've been battered by injuries particularly that of the blue line with Calvin Han and Brent Seabrook and then Andrew Shaw you know I would I would sail and it is those guys need to get healthy first and then you want to see how your developments are going with Adam vocalist and Kirby dach but to me ideally like you need you need another top six winger like you need another top six four they have Jonathan Tate and Kirby docking Dylan Strome and and obviously Patrick Kane and Alex DeBrincat but they don't have really that photo type scoring winger that can help balance out the lines and I'm not saying that the Blackhawks have it all made on their depth on their defensive group because they tell but you look at the reality is they have five guys under contract for at least the next two seasons after that and that's not even including Adam vocalist and potentially Ian Mitchell so I want to say a top four defenseman but it just didn't seem feasible because all the they have all these guys tied up Charlie I know it's been a long day we appreciate jump around for a few minutes no problem guys thanks for having me
