"Presenter by barstool sports, brought to you by a very good friends at Chevrolet. It's 2023, 2023. I gotta say, and I wrote that date down. I think we're entering the years that I just was and never prepared for or never thought would actually enter a real calendar that I'm part of. What was the year in iRobot? What year in this iRobot take place? The Will Smith movie. Good. Because I remember hearing that when I was a kid or whenever that came out and being like, boy, that feels like a fake year and I bet we're in that area. 20, 35, 20, 35. So yeah, I mean, we're kind of getting into that realm. I feel like I was thinking about the year 2019, which we've spoken about a lot, great year. Tiger Woods wins the masters, St. Louis blues, won the Stanley Cup, great year. That was four years ago now. That's not. I mean, I feel like we're kind of just still in 2019. Presidents cup, that whole deal. Maybe if it was a year ago, you could get over that, whatever. Four years ago was 2019. What? Yeah, that makes no sense. What? Yeah. I do think I've mentioned it before, but I do think that 2020 with everything that happened screwed up time for me in particular, and I think a lot of people where, right, that doesn't seem like three years ago, that seems like 8 months ago. And I don't know how to justify it in my brain. I don't know what to tell myself, but yeah, the fact that Tiger won the masters four years ago, that was when Game of Thrones finished up. That was four years ago. Those things don't feel like they're that far ago, but they are. It's very odd. So if you entered college in the fall of 2019, would you be graduating this spring? Is that right?

Donato scores in fourth straight, Kraken topple Blues 5-2

"The Seattle kraken scored three second period goals en route to a 5 two win over the St. Louis blues. Ryan Donato opened the scorn for Seattle in the first with a goal in his fourth straight game. It definitely is sweet. I think it's exciting, but honestly, at the end of the day, I think everybody here in here can agree that it's more about winning. So for me to be a part of that when it's definitely a good feeling. 5 different players scored the kraken's goals, Morgan geeky assisted on two of them. "The Tampa Bay lightning got right to the point scoring three early goals en route to a 5 two victory over the St. Louis blues. Brayden point scored a three 29 of the first period to put the lightning up one nothing, then after Alex killorn's goal scored again at 8 O four to make it three zero Tampa Bay. It's physical early. I think both teams were into it right away. It was nice to hear about the goals for us early. Pretty good jump on the game. I thought it was a fun game. Coyne also weighed in his system, Brandon Hegel's goal after the blues to close to within three two in the second period. Nicholas Paul scored the other Tampa Bay all as the blues lost for just the second time in 9 games. I'm time Miriam

"Don't we start with Colorado St. Louis? And it's hard to do two deep of a dive there because we're recording this on Wednesday. And the series continues. St. Louis blues on the brink, but it feels like we do need to address the nazem kadri nonsense and his hat trick response. And Craig boru the head coach of the St. Louis blues finally addressed it. You know, there's been so much that has been made and nazem kadri as responded to the ridiculous the underbelly of social media and Twitter coming at him with racial threats and death threats and all of that. And I, for one, I thought that kadri handled it well. He's a big boy. He's a professional athlete. Does he have feelings and emotions? Of course he does. But I believe that the reason that he speaks out period is simply because he's trying to do better, try and change the world a little bit and maybe deflected away from his family who is probably paying more of a price as his wife tweeted the tax and the tweets and everything directed at him. But beyond that, what do you make of how he then found a way to channel it all focus and then come up large against the St. Louis blues in the last game? I mean, talk about kadri clearly being in the kitchen of the St. Louis blues. Well, honestly, when I look over nazem kadri's career over the last 6 or 7 years, the only thing I don't like about it is his lack of discipline in those moments when he has been suspended in the playoffs. Never have I thought that this is a guy that doesn't want to win that will do what he needs to do to win. And so he needs more fuel like a third foot. Like he doesn't need it. That fuels always there for him. Well, when this fuel showed up in this ridiculousness, yes, he's handled it well. He clearly shouldn't have to handle it. What's wrong with people? Like seriously. Again, like that just, you know, we talked about the Texas stuff a moment ago and that makes me sad and angry. This just pisses me off. Like, what does he have to deal with this for? Why do these idiots have a platform to that he's an even has to deal with? What's wrong with these people? But as of goes into the game, he's got a building that hates him or hates him because he ran into the goalie. I think is really quite honestly what it's about. And then he's like, yeah, well, there's one. Oh, I got two. And would you look at that? There's three. I can't even imagine the satisfaction of the third one to go in. Yeah. And so he's been outstanding all year for Colorado. Like not just pretty good, but when McKinnon was out, when McKinnon early in the year wasn't scoring, kadri has had just a brilliant year. He is a competitive competitive guy. Well man, he's found such a big way to be in puzzle in that series. And to be fair, there was that altercation with David perron and all that. Were you bit surprised that it was only a fine of $5000? I mean, that was a pretty nasty check. You know what bugged me more when he whiffed on the elbow? Like Braun tried to elbow him right in the head. Yeah. And this is a guy with terrible concussion history. Yeah..

"Or plays by barstool sports, it is a very big episode with a lot going on in the world. Currently, we have max homa who just won his fourth PGA Tour event. We are one week away from the PGA Championship, which is the second major of the year. Tiger Woods will be playing, no clue a Phil Mickelson is playing. We have more news about Phil Mickelson and potential debts. We have comments from Sergio Garcia, we have a bunch of fan questions to get to. We have some drama at barstool sports. We have in the current NHL world, St. Louis blues are tied to two, the rangers are down to one that could change, by the time this podcast comes out. And the New York islanders have just announced in a stunner minutes ago that they fired head coach Barry trots after a terrible season, but the year before and the year before that, they head back to back appearances in the Eastern Conference Finals. I doubt anybody on this show will have any thoughts on that whatsoever. The father we do. What the fuck on the you boys? On the heels of the rangers being the biggest embarrassment of the NHL playoffs over the last week. The islanders go out on a day that just didn't didn't need to happen. There's no contracts up or anything. There's nothing going on. The islanders are out golfing, enjoying the off season. You know, let these other teams get their shit done. The rangers are in the place. They're losing, blowing leads. They can't win over triple overtime. They come all the way back. They get their hearts ripped out by the 45 year old penguins. Then all of a sudden Lula Morello out of the fucking clouds, fires what is to me the most successful, bright shining light in my lifetime as a New York islanders fan. Barry trots was the greatest thing that's ever happened to me in my sports fandom life. As a New York islanders fan and he has now been thrown to the curb, kicked out saying that the team needs a new voice and this was a decision that was not taken that was not made easy, and it was not made overnight, which I don't even know what that means. You know, Barry trots made three consecutive playoff runs, two consecutives, Eastern Conference Finals runs. His record with the islanders is absurd compared to where they were, my whole life. I mean, you're talking 8 and 70 type team, or you're talking the worst teams of all time in those early 2000s years with the New York islanders. And to have somebody must have it out for them. It was like some of the scoring like offensive player must have been..

"Truly heart seltzer paper company bought some Massachusetts. Please drink responsibly. Four players by barstool sports, fuck, I would say because it's early, we don't usually do early this isn't known as an early podcast. It's so early that trip daddy is not here yet. I just feel bad for him because he's on the West Coast, so it's 6 a.m., according to podcast by 6 a.m., not great. He said, I think when we were scheduling this, he said, I'm going to be a cold dead body when we record that. And I think that's probably pretty accurate, but we all got crazy ass schedules. So here we are. It's early. That's not true. Well, it's just so bad. Cold dead body is not true. That's scary. I think he's alive. I think he's alive. He just hasn't fully awakened yet. You know, we could start with hockey if you guys want, which the St. Louis blues absolutely curb stop the Minnesota wild for the 5th straight time this year with a Ford off the defeat on the road. There's a lot of data actually last night and see how it turned out. Yeah, that was a tough loss lost in triple overtime. Didn't see that one coming. Strong start out of the gate for the boys and then they just lingered. And I'll tell you what, Sydney crosses. Pittsburgh had like a hundred shots on like a hundred shots on that. Yeah, it's just a shame, you know, it's just in the God, the chosen one, what are they calling them now? The prince, they like to call them. I mean, you know, he had a lot of saves. He had a lot of saves, which was like a cool little status, all the images that rangers were putting up the second most saves in NHL history in the playoffs, the most saved by a ranger and then just one, too little. You know what I mean? It's just yet, you needed to make one more. And it's a lesser role this kid's out there. It's a lesson all those kids out there, you know, you never, never rest on all of your successes, keep going. You have 79 states you need 80. You have 80 states you need 81. You just got to keep going. You can't sit back and be happy with all of your personal accolades. So, you know, I'm not going to be hurt fan. That didn't make the playoffs and roots against his other team, but that's exactly what it would be. And that's exactly who I've been my whole entire life. I enjoy ranger losses more than I enjoy islander wins. It's just a fact of who I am and where I came from and how I was built. And that was a tough loss to the rangers, you know? Parking garages closed on people. I saw lurchers dad to go move his car. I heard horror stories of people in Manhattan, getting their cars locked inside places that they've parked in. No way. "Tough competitor. But it does seem like for McKinnon and the avalanche if they just choke in these playoffs, you're afraid for bystanders for furniture for electronics for McDavid, there is a larger question of like, how do you actually think of this guy who otherwise has been incredibly special? And so McKinnon and Colorado, they're taken on the national predators. McDavid and his oilers, they're facing the kings, who are you actually more afraid for in comparison there? A more afraid for McDavid. The LA kings are interesting story. They've had the best prospect pool in the NHL for the last few seasons. And we all assumed that when they made it back to the playoffs, it would be on the strength of those young players. Well, it turns out it's the adults that are doing it this time. It's on Jay kopitar. It's Philip the know before he got injured. It was drew dowdy. It was Jonathan quick. The goalie that led the kings to two Stanley cups in the last decade, having a quick assault this season in goal. And so the only thing I'm worried about here for the oilers is the idea that the kings might have a series winning them and they might have a series winning them if Jonathan quick decides to pop off and take over the series and goal, which isn't out of the realm of possibility with the way that he's played. Now, Colorado is a beast. Colorado, it would be absolutely shocking if Colorado didn't get out of the first round. For one reason, which is that they are opponents of the national predators who, by the way, are not a pushover, they're a good underdog, but they be even better underdog if their goalie you see Soros was healthy. You put him in this series, they got to punch his chance. He's out of the series. This could be a real quick one. He's out of this series. It just sounds like they're just gonna get punched in other words. That's right. So the Calgary flames are speaking of an entire country getting punched. I mean, Canada, I want to talk about Calgary and specific here in the flames because like Edmonton, I guess we suffer, Greg, we Americans suffer from a little bit of ignorance. A lot of ignorance actually about like stuff to know about Calgary, but stuff to know about this team involves winning the Pacific division, having the third highest point toll in the west. So where are they in terms of possibly end in Canada's Stanley Cup drought? All right, quick primer on the Calgary flames. They got three 40 goal scorers. Matthew could chuck who is if you love your Brad bar Sean type players very much of that ilk, a guy that could beat you on the scoreboard or with his mouth or with his stick. If you like guys who no one else likes, in other words, this guy is a guy for you to like. If you're a fan of the heels, this man is a heel. Elias lindholm is a great two way player. He's got 42 goals. And then there's Johnny gaudreau who hit 40 goals that had a 115 points. He's an American kid, south Jersey kid, free agent. It's going to be a very lucrative summer for Johnny gaudreau. They also have a goalie in Jacob markstrom, who's considered to be one of the best in the league. And a coach and Daryl Sutter, who is a man of, well, brief words, but a long storied history of playoff success, including being behind the bench for those recent LA kings championships. So this is a team that could beat you offensively. They're one of the best offensive teams in the league with a great goaltender, so they are a very, very big threat to win the cup this year and stop that Canadian cup drought. Okay, so the Calgary flames, they get the Dallas stars, a hell of a match up there. But the matchup, Greg, that is, I don't know, pretty infuriating if you're either of the teams involved here, it's the St. Louis blues against the Minnesota wild, rounding out the rest of the bracket in the west. What do you make of this particular series here? My heart breaks, I love both these teams, man. There's so much fun. The Minnesota wild have shed the reputation of being a defensive oriented franchise and transformed into one of the best offensive and defensive teams in the league led by krill Capri staff who's one of the league's most exciting players. The St. Louis blues have had one of their best offensive seasons since the early 1990s when Brett Hull was scoring like 80 goals. This is a matchup between two incredible teams. In fact, so incredible that by points, the wild were second in the Western Conference and the St. Louis blues were fourth. But because of this vocabulary playoff format we've got, they got to play each other in the first round. What is that? Wait, wait, wait, so there's a two things. Number one, what is the adjective you use to describe the playoff bracket at number two, explain the playoff bracket? It's yiddish pay it no mind. So the playoff bracket goes like this. The top seeds in Easter version, they play the wild card teams. The two and three teams in each division have to play each other. So back in the day, if we were in the old one through 8 conference format, right? The Minnesota wild would be seated to play the Los Angeles kings. I think that is a fitting matchup for a team that had the second most points in the conference. The St. Louis blues would play against the Edmonton Oilers who were 5th in the conference. So again, that's a much more manageable matchup for the blues than it is in Minnesota wild. Losing one of these teams in the first round is heartbreaking as a hockey fan 'cause I think either of these guys could give the Colorado avalanche a really good series in the next round. Yeah, I mean, bump gets Greg is what this sounds like buckets. That's right. Does that work? Does that work in this context? It's a shonda. Absolutely. So Greg, another team that's just etching right now. Just like truly, truly in their feels, right? Can you tell me what back to Brooklyn, by the way? You weren't getting all this when I was living in California. No, this is probably, you are in your prime, Greg, clearly. But the biggest golden diets, right? Like, what happened, Greg, what happened to them? Because they're missing the and look, I know it's been a short history, but this is the team that I just came to expect them to be awesome every year, but here they are out of the entire playoff picture. The Jack I go thing, bringing him in from buffalo, controversially after he had this falling out with the Sabres. We covered that on this podcast with Emily Kaplan about his neck injury. What did go wrong here? Injuries, I think would be the number one thing that went wrong. You know, they lost a ton of guys in their lineup at a critical part of the season. Mark stone, who I think is their best forward, maybe outside of eye glow if you want to go raw talent. Alec Martinez was out for a while a key defenseman. And then at the end of the season, Robin later opted to get surgery so they didn't have him for the last stretch. So there might be able to look at this season and say it was the injuries, but it was also a mess of their own making in the sense that because of their salary cap situation, a situation that was only exacerbated when they acquired eichel's cat pit from the buffalo Sabres, they weren't really able to get reinforcements or bring in reinforcements off of long-term injury reserve. When they bought stone back in their lineup, they were moving around their players on and off long-term injured reserve just to manage the cap. So a lot of these problems are of their own making. But beyond that, I've never seen a team go from being the single most beloved team in the league, like the golden knights wear when they made the Cup final in their inaugural season as the golden misfits to a team where the vast majority of the national hockey leagues fans were just wallowing in the schadenfreude of the golden knights missing the playoffs this year. Primarily because of the way they treated their players and primarily because of the way they treated Marc Andre fleury, their franchise goaltender, who found out.

"PDO cast. My name is amitri filippovich and joining me is my good buddy Mike Johnson Mike, what's going on man? It's tough to meet you. It's been a while since we've done this. Even hiding on me all year, so I see how it is. I mean, you're a popular guy. You got a lot of guys who want to come on your show and ladies, of course. So I'm happy to be back. No, no, it's not like that at all. I know you have a busy work schedule. So I save you for the most important times of the year. And I feel like it's an annual tradition for us to be doing these kind of playoff breakdowns. So I'm happy to have you. I did part one earlier today. We did four series. We're going to do the other four, opening around matchups here. So the plan, I think people that have listened to us do this before, no, but it's just going to be helping set you up for the playoffs. We're going to try to kind of identify some strengths, weaknesses, potential strategies, exploitable matchups with teams involved. So it's going to be fun. Let's jump right into it. I think this is a good starting point for us. Let's do wild and blues first because I'm sneakily very excited about this matchup. I think traditionally today, okay, the Minnesota wild, the St. Louis blues, kind of these slow it down, grinded out heavy defensive teams. And this year, they've really been anything, but and so I think it's going to be a really kind of fun matchup with a bunch of twists and turns, but it's also tough to tough to kind of figure out which way it's going to go. It really is kind of a toss up in my mind. What excites you about this series and what are you going to be looking for in this matchup when they start playing? Yeah, you're right because I think their reputation does not really align with the reality this year. And that means you guys are offensive teams, you know, I've seen them both multiple times this year. They play fast. Now, it will be physical. It will get chippy for sure, but for St. Louis, what I find fascinating about them is that they've had this kind of two year transition where their best offensive players have gotten younger. And that's not to say that Ryan O'Reilly is not excellent. David Frost is not excellent. I think Karen sank what a career for this year, but just the development of Cairo and Thomas, barbershop. These young guys and maybe the smartest signing trade signing with. The blues. They are so it's interesting. And all those guys, you know, how they'll step forward. They've taken a big step in the regular season, but can they do it again in the playoffs? One of my favorite players is Robert Thomas. And I threw it out there and it's maybe hyperbolic, but he's one of the best passers in the league. And I'm like, well, I don't know, but I'm like, maybe talk, but whatever it is, he's better than you think he is..

"Removed from that couple and team biz, but Nick Letty not a bad addition at all veteran defensemen, but he's got the battle hot minutes can move the puck to a little bit of everything out there. So Doug Armstrong is convinced this is a Stanley Cup winning team. We actually have cam Jansen coming on next and he was adamant about the fact that the one missing piece they have was a left handed defenseman and they got it. Nick Letty, so let's see how they're able to roll. It's a coin toss between who's going to start playoff time between huso and Bennington if Bennington can kind of find his game or at least get back to where he was when they ended up making that run. But yeah, no, it was a solid move, great move for Detroit, I think that eisenman is so far ahead of the game in a sense of knowing what teams are going to end up needing close to the deadline where he has just been stocking up and the fact that they ended up getting sun quest. One of the guys that Janssen ends up mentioning who was very, very vital in that Stanley Cup winning performance. As one of the guys who was just running around killing guys for San Jose to get her that series when they ended up going on to win the cup. So credit, credit to both squads here and Doug Armstrong, he's playing with the house's money. If they're able to make another run with this core group with the St. Louis blues, you know, it's just a credit to him, but as far as Detroit's concerned, they are just cocked and loaded for another 20 years of playoff runs. Yeah, bes you mentioned cam Jansen so I suppose we should send it over to him and get his take on the blues. It's good stuff..

So yeah. The avalanche will be a nice guy. I want to beat the blues and he'll text rigs and be like, you're pathetic. It's just like, it's unbelievable. It's like rages the first person he thinks of post when against the blues, which is amazing. Dude, he sent one time when they beat the blues. He sent me like a Tiger Woods gift right after the game of Tiger. Like fist pump in after they won. That was like he was in the locker room so I think he still had his fucking cup on his deck and he sent me that gift of Tiger winning, but he's such a nice guy that he'll do this chirp me. You know, me, I don't just cave. I chirping him back. And then it always comes full circle to him being like, Riggs, I really hope you and your family are doing really well. How is your little nephew? And I'm like, fuck, fuck you, but he's really good, he's cute. Thank you for asking. It's the man. I miss that fucking guy on the islanders, dude. The team. This is him too. It's crazy. He's such a good talent. He likes my tweets sometimes. That's the extent of my relationship with. He loves daddy. Dude, the whole NHL loves Trent daddy. I gotta get Trent daddy to another islander game. It was amazing when they were all looking at him sitting there in the first row. They were starstruck. It was like, it was like Spike Lee at a nickname. Trent that was on the glass and they were all. There was murmurs on the bench about Trent being in the building. I'll go to a game whenever you want to go to a game. I had a lot of fun when we went. All right. I also have to say that the blues. I know there's the rangers to get a lot of traction for being a wagon on that. I mean, St. Louis blues might be the best team in the NHL. They're phenomenal. Phenomenal. They won the cup, obviously two years ago. I think it was Rick tacket, who just said recently, anybody who's not paying attention to the St. Louis blues is a Stanley Cup winning team this year. It's just not paying attention to hockey. They're built for a 7 game series. I think that's correct. So as a blues fan, there's 7 one and two in their last ten could not be more excited about the St. Louis blues. Yeah, hockey's top right now the islanders haven't played in like a month. It's getting crazy. All these games are getting canceled. They were the Guinea pigs of the COVID era of 2021. They got they had to play 6 games with 6 players out. They lost all those, and now they're spending games. So it's a real nightmare. But with the full roster, the non COVID affected islanders, they're at the same team they were last year, man. If you're really looking closely, 9 points in 9 of the last 11, they've won like four in a row at home..

I don't know, but either way, when the St. Louis blues won the cup a couple of years ago, I went over and congratulated this guy my wife's a huge fan of them. And he was like kind of like a dick and I said it before and like I guess someone told me he brought it up on the show like, you know, I mean, I wasn't rude. I was like, hey, congrats on the win. He was just like, kind of look at me like that like who are you type look? Like, you know, when someone's being condescending to ideas, so I don't know. Why did that night, but all right, anything else, boys? Yeah, guys. One thing. So I posted a picture of biz in our new scheme merch that we plan to drop. This Thursday actually and it kind of went, I don't want to say it went viral. People were popping off about it. So we're dropping a whole opera ski line. It's actually some really, really incredible high quality good scheme art. So I'm in two weeks, G, you got to send some my way. I got you, buddy. I'm going to chemo. In Vermont. And my last thing is in terms of TV shows, maybe you brought this up all right, dope sick on Hulu. You see? Yeah, I've heard a wonderful, I haven't seen it yet. It is one of the most amazing, sad, incredible shows, the acting and it's amazing. Michael Keaton is kind of the main character. It goes through basically what the true pandemic is and that's opiates in this country and how Purdue originally brought OxyContin into the world and I recommend it to anyone. It's amazing and it's very, very kind of tough to watch at times. It's not a documentary. It's a show. Like I've said with Keaton, but checked out one out because some of the biggest scumbags to ever live. You'll see in this show, it's absolutely disgusting. They know they knowingly hooked. They told everyone that less than 1% of people would become addicted. And then not only that, people started taking a pill that was supposed to last for 12 hours, it wouldn't last for 12 hours. What it perdue did, they just told all the doctors. Oh, double the dosage. And so like, you don't, I'm kind of somewhat. I'm like on episode four, 5. You don't necessarily know yet, like all the salespeople didn't know, but I think they kind of did. Doctors didn't know, but they kind of did. It's a wild show in terms of seeing how this all went down, but the family. I think they were the sacrifice of that biggest they should all be fucking put on a firing line and shot, dude. It's insane. Nobody's in jail for it. Sorry to call off. I recommend the show on Hulu dope sick. So everyone scattered episode, but we had a great time in many and there's so much good happening in the league as long as we get these games back on and get fans in Canada. I'm sorry, Canadians. You don't deserve this, but we love all you guys and once again to the people in many unreal that you chose to come out and hang with us. Thank you so much. He just has to make sure he stops the ones you're supposed to stop. I know that sounds crazy, but you know, it's much easier when you're getting 30 35 shots and when you're getting 20 shots I always have applied. Marty Brodeur was like that.
