Doctors Are Relying More on Monoclonal Antibodies to Fight COVID

"For Covid 19 is showing a great deal of progress. David Begnaud reports from hard hit Louisiana monoclonal antibodies, lab grown proteins that help the body target and eliminate covid infection, according to Dr Thomas Galit, chief medical officer at ST Francis Medical Center in Monroe, Louisiana. They have become the most effective therapy yet has done a great job of helping high risk patients stay out of the hospital. The therapy is becoming more available at hospitals and clinics around the country. But it is only administered after infection within 10 days of the first symptoms and before those symptoms get to severe what type of sickness do you usually say that's too sick to receive if they are having profound oxygen requirements continued high grade beavers dehydration. Since July. The first we've given about 1700 doses. One of those doses went to 42 year old Scotty Johnson. We were there when he got his infusion three weeks ago in Monroe, as Covid was attacking his body. It feels like somebody's choking you. You start coughing, but nothing comes out this week. We followed up with him and we met his wife, Meg. They both got the antibody treatments right around the same time. I just really start feeling good about Three or four days ago, probably, but I feel like I'm like 90% now, while Scotty did not get the vaccine bag did my wife got anybody treatment? On Thursday. I tested positive on Friday. On Saturday, she was back up cleaning the house and doing dishes and like it never even bothered. While the antibody treatments can be effective, they are not a substitute for vaccines, says CBS News Medical contributor Dr David Agus. There's no question the vaccine is better than an antibody. But in the case where your immune suppressed and you can't make a good response to a vaccine, they're lifesavers. So this is an important part of our arsenal. But it certainly is not the only weapon in our arsenal. Vaccines are Front line. No question about it to fight a virus in today's world, and that

"It tell you? Geez, no way! We're just gathering there. Their office bluntly, though I'm most unimpeachable witness a journalist, very high standards who saw the entire thing. I'm coming up here and for Clark Except it was Complimentary to me, so I didn't worry about it. And Trump pardons a bunch of partners yesterday. So we're on Trump Pardon stand by. It was around 5 P.m. Pacific time Nothing came out. The Duncan Hunters Pardon Chris Collins from Pennsylvania. Also, if you didn't hear about this four private contractors who worked for Blackwater back when they were called Blackwater for an incident from 2008, and I'm quite sure I'll check up on that. But I'll tell you about that. But how much of pardons and then, of course, the ritual shock shock. From the media today that the look who Trump Um pardon the whole thing is is memory, something that is reset every four years. Where every eight years after a democratic president And I don't. I don't remember this in January of 20 of 2001 when Bill Clinton was pardoning pretty much, everybody Right after they contributed to the Clinton library. But, um, the next guy in their freight years who was a Democrat, did the same thing. I don't I don't recall this amount of Pearl clutching by the media. It's when when a Republican is on his way out of the Oval Office, and he does exactly what every president Has done. Um there's there's just shock and revulsion and the whole thing there's a breaking is the, uh, Congressman elect representative Elect Luke let low a Republican from Louisiana. He was hospitalized for covered 19. I'm Saturday he has been transferred to the ICU. Uh, in Louisiana, a spokesperson for the Let low for let Low confirmed to the hill a few hours ago. He's now in stable condition in the ICU at Ochsner. Ls you health in Shreveport? He is receiving the antiviral medication Rendez severe and steroids help combat the virus. Net is by the way between February and now the therapies. Have a really, really changed how how we treat even when people go in ICU. They don't put him on a ventilator till until it's an absolute last resort like Trump never won on a ventilator, Boris Johnson and Britain went on a ventilator. But Right? Right. As the light at the end of the tunnel was beginning to fade. He reached for it and shuffled back on his mortal coil. This congressman elect tested positive for it on Friday. Admitted to ST Francis Medical Center The following day as a precaution, and now he's gone from Saturday precaution to Wednesday. I see you so There there is that, Hey, is again Congressman elect from Louisiana's fifth District and hey is I believe he's just below 40 or so so he is. He is definitely the exception of this. So a quick aside with the news coming out of Britain about well, there's a mutation of covert and appears to be more infectious. There's a complete lack of context that they're not applying to it, and it's not hard to find but apparently too hard for national cable. Journalists to stand front of Cameron say this So far the symptomatic rate is no more than the regular covet. The fatality rate is no more or less in the regular covered. It's basically a mutation that makes it easier to infect. The concern is that if that's the case, it would infect more people. On DNA epidemiologist pointed out that it was detected in in this country back in August, and it infected people were sick and it moved along. It's now coming from South Africa into Britain, and it's affecting a lot of people. The French. The whole truck thing is get another with Brexit. But trucks that went into Britain with European goods and then are coming back with UK goods and do the you They do it by truck ferry. They're being held in Dover at an airport and there's miles of trucks that are just not too but Just just bumper to bumper and Um, then the reasons because the EU authorities are saying until everybody tests negative, you're not getting on the ferry and landing in Calais. So apparently there's some new tests that they have that like, literally takes 30 minutes, and it's and it's got a minimal False positive rate of pretty reliable test. So that's why they're clearing that out. But this strain in the UK is, they said. What they're detecting is it seems to spread more quickly and present more quickly, but it doesn't lead to a higher proportion. Of symptomatic or a higher proportion of death. So there's wrong numbers and there's percentages. So there is that. All right, Take a break. Come back. More stuff will be joined by any feel from ABC about the pardons yesterday A and we'll get in that it is caf..

"Be addressing the state about some new restrictions that'll go into place. Feels like just a few days ago, we were talking about how four new county's would now have rolled back some of the rules there. We had Cain, Kankakee will and DuPage counties, so no indoor dining, and then they restricted gatherings and had some other things in place limits on gatherings to 25 people or 25% of room capacity we're expecting. I think I know you've heard so far Lauren in terms of in advance of what he might say, but we know that it's the Metro East area. I believe near Kind of near ST Louis, that part of the state and then suburban cook. Yeah, they imparted. Yeah, And it's funny because I'm looking here. Positivity rates in Illinois continue to rise there looking at that metric, as health officials say, now averaging more than three times the state average in the U. S 57,000 new test Monday and a seven day average of more than 70,000. So they're saying that hospitalizations air slowly rising across the state. Hospital resource is remain well within state limits. I'm reading from WNS website here as a state officials report. 2600 patients were hospitalized with Cove in 19, including nearly 600 intensive care so other regions they look at this fails the safe level. They call it fail safe level, and when you cross that certain Level of days of positivity rates going up in hospitalization numbers, the governor says. That's when these new mitigation measures will kick in. So I think the one suburban Cook County and Metro East, he's going to announce we're told they start on Wednesday of this week. Wednesday. And so this is where can get confusing in Chicago. Right now. Indoor dining is allowed for restaurants and bars that have, you know food orders, right? That's not going to be the case for this. New mitigation measure. All indoor dining is going to be off limits all indoor dining in suburban Cook in the Metro hysteria Metro East Area, in addition to the counties that already have been doing it. Um, limits on gathering to 25 people 25% of room capacity, whichever's less. No indoor service at bars and restaurants. Outdoor service ends at 11 P.m. again I don't know how they do after service when it's going to be 30 degrees. But I'm some of some people are figuring that out was reservations are required in bars and restaurants and no shared tables allowed. Obviously, no party buses and gaming casinos also see restrictions in addition to liquor. Stores, too. There was a very emotional Did you see Dr Z K? I think it was Friday afternoon. If not Saturday. I just happened to catch it. Yesterday She was announcing the new totals in the positivity rate had been going up. The number of new cases and it got very emotional, so emotional that she she had to pull away from the microphone and turn away and and she started to cry, I think and it just you know, she she does seem to take all of this. So personally really has a big heart You can tell, and she just gets very She's getting very upset is she was seeing things move in the wrong direction. I know. She also personally has lost several family members. And so it's probably hard for her not to think of the people in the families and the faces behind each of the numbers that she mentions. She's always done that. You know, you've always sort of seen that in her face and the emotions and you could tell when things were going well by this for the state, and when they weren't And she hasn't had good news for us Really. Lately. I think Dr Z K will be part of this. Who's um, Is it the governor and doctors? Ikea Lauren that we're looking at, You know, they said other health leaders, so I would expect that the the normal group of people will be there. Dr Zika usually is always the one to give us the totals in terms of new cases and deaths, so I would I would be very shocked if she was not there. Yeah, I would, too. Andan the latest. We're hearing that, okay, So like you said, it's getting confusing because there's so many carve outs here. But right now Chicago is still carved out from what we think the governor is going to say. Right, so he Chicago, the city of Chicago itself is not part of this order that he is about to announce for these two regions. However, Mayor Lightfoot announced last week that she was putting in place this two week business curfew. Says she likes to call it and that's why the restrictions are slightly different than what we're about to hear for suburban Cook County. That's right. We heard from their life. But she called into the show just about an hour after she had put those news new restrictions into place, and they largely in the city deal with bars that don't serve food. That was what she carved out because, she said, those are the kinds of places where people let down their guard. And maybe go right to Ah party at someone's house after the city still says it's social gatherings and in sort of the community spread is coming from those events where people are getting together in private with people they know. That's where three of the four cases three out of four of the new cases air coming from according to the city, the state is deciding. This is one of the levers they can pull to restrict bars and restaurants and they're going to pull it because going into this type of weather they're saying that this is something they want to do. So that's AH, That's what we expect the governor to say. When he steps up here. It's some It's a big deal. You know, we've been spotlighting some of the restaurants and businesses calling into the show the last few days last end of last week, and today, folks who are just barely surviving after the restrictions that have already been in place, trying to do the right thing through all of this trying to keep their restaurants as safe as possible. We just heard from the owner, one of the owners of Fox Fire In Geneva and Diana. He's about to start so I'm going to bring him out here. Good afternoon, everyone and welcome to our daily covert 19 update briefing. Doctors. CK and I are joined here in Peoria at OSF ST Francis Medical Center by Bobby Anderson, The president of OSF, Dr Michael Cruise,.

Let's see what's up. They're going to go check on the murderer, the murderers of the police officers who have just who have just almost been assassinated. Come 13. This gets a little Ah, raunchy, but you'll get you'll get the drift. This is again the activists outside the hospital. These two officers, a 31 year old woman. And a 24 year old man. Young man have been this but it's the this an attempted murders attempted double murder cut 13 Rob! Going, people. So it gets worse. The black Ah lives matter. Activists actually tried to enter the hospital. Okay? No, The police are essentially trying to get family members in to see the loved ones who could be dying. And there was one Young, Ah black woman. Who was the security person? At the door. Who stopped this horde of thugs from literally invading the hospital. She should get some sort of an honor for the guts and the courage that she showed this is cut 12 rub. We're down here. The same Francis Hospital were down. They were down here to visit someone. You can go visit Nobody. You can once we confirm, but there's no visitation allowed anyway, so you gotta go. All right. You see what's happening right here, right. Got it. These pigs out here. They're telling us that we cannot come in here and see these individuals who have been shot down train station. So what? Okay, This is a public that probably has no problem. That young woman. Whoever she is, basically stood down a crowd. They're going to go visit. Yeah, they're going to go visit. Finally there's a priest at the hospital who came out and talked about what is going on Cut 31 rub. Describe for me what the protesters were chanting. What were they saying? Well, they were saying death to the police killed killed the police and this our sheriff's, but the message is still the same. And they were using all type of curse words and and derogatory terms about the police just just provoking our police officers unacceptable behavior because the hospital should be a sanctuary where way should leave hospital alone. Tensions are high since two deputies are inside. Did you see the negatives make swift action. And he said that the protesters trying to get inside the emergency room? Yes. Unbelievable. Un believable and then we have the radio reporter. Remember The Washington Post article in the Globe today they refer. Police and protestors tactics drew scrutiny after demonstrations formed outside ST Francis Medical Center with the deputies received treatment. That's it. The Washington Post had no interest in describing what had happened. And then you had this nut job radio reporter who, as the police had trying to clear the area. She's trying to interfere with the police. This is cut 41 40 to rub cut 41. Back up. It continues. Hearing cut 42 here. Just what the police needed in that situation, have another distraction and the executive a editor of this radio station, so called NPR radio station. KPCC, or public radio National Public Radio affiliate. Expressed outrage over the arrest of the reporter. No outrage, though, over what the demonstrators tried to do to enter the hospital as these police officers Life lives hung in the balance. This one doesn't really outraged you that I don't know what does this is this's as as bad as it gets. I don't care who you are or what you think if you don't condemn this action by those literally, vigilantes, we're going to go visit these people in the hospital. Oh, yeah. They were in the operating room. Feel free. Just go in and say hello. I'm sure that they'd love to see you. And by the way, we'll clear the doctor's out of there. So maybe You can finish him off

"Out of you. Deputies radio for help. Assisting units from the district responded. And transported. Both those deputies here to ST Francis Medical Center and yesterday was the latest information which still stands and that is the best description they have at this point. Looking for a black man 28 to 30 years old wearing dark clothing. And as you heard, Captain Wagner say that he ran north bound but then eventually got into a vehicle that was last seen headed north bound on Willowbrook Avenue. There might be better photos better video than what we've seen on TV, right and on and on Lee because that those bus stations and train stations tend to have a lot of surveillance video because it's hard to believe that this guy doesn't have a record. And that you wouldn't be able to do some facial recognition matching well, they don't They don't have that technology at those kinds of that bus station there. I mean, they don't know. But I mean, have a matching matching the video of the photos, too. What data they have back in. Yeah, I'm running it through. Sure. Yeah, the the of course. They're going to have a lot more than they're telling us on that What we've been given thus far. So I think it's awfully interesting description than 20 to 30. Not even 20 to 30, Not even 25 to 30 late 30 police officers were trained really narrow in 30, but I just thought it was very interesting. But, ah, you know, that's a very vague description. Black man, Dark clothing 2030. But the fact that they said that they saw you know he was last seen North bound in a vehicle, dark colored vehicle. I had been told Saturday night that there was possibly a Partial plate. On DH. Then I've also been told that they might be looking for a late model Mercedes on there might be a second person involved that is potentially a getaway driver that has not been confirmed the Lake County Sheriff Department but rather by sources. On DSO. That's kind of more to your question. They do know a lot more than they're telling us. Sure, And we have no idea of the motive here, and we don't know whether or not this was planned in that he may have known that those officers sit in that. Vehicle there on a regular basis, you know? Is this the next the next volley in the Civil war? And you know it's interesting. You say that John because sheriff in Nueva on Saturday night as well was asked that question here in cut Be of sheriff Ian a waiver. I will You know, the question was posed to him. Do you think this is a glimpse into the future is this you know something of things to come? That was a cowardly act. The two deputies were doing their job, minding their own business, watching out for the safety of the people on the train and Seen somebody walk up and just start shooting.

"Police informant. Those officers are not going to be convicted. Because they didn't kill him. That messes up the narrative. Joe Biden went and met with the father of Jacob Blake, the man who sexually assaulted a woman. Repeatedly stole her car, then tried to kill the cops, so they had to shoot him. That's Joe Biden's hero. This anti cop rhetoric. Of of movie stars of Democrat officials of people in the media. It's got to stop These two sheriff's deputies did nothing wrong. And yet Once they were shot. In an ambush. They never saw it coming. A group of black lives matter. Thugs showed up. At the hospital to block the emergency exits. To try to break into the hospital and torment them to chant outside. We hope they die as their inside at death's door. They're hearing chants from the very thugs who do this. We hope they die. They were celebrating the shootings of these cops. BBC seven L. A. A small group of demonstrators gathered outside the hospital where those two deputies are being treated. This is new video showing officials trying to clear the area ST Francis Medical Center. At one point a few people were seen blocking the emergency entrance and exit to the hospital. "Bill Handle. Here. It is. A Monday morning, September 20th big story fires fires the fires 3.3 or almost 3.4 now million acres, a blazing all over California. And don't forget Oregon and Washington. This is unprecedented. And idle that'll be covered throughout the day, the weak and unfortunately, unfortunately in the weeks to come, we're going to hear stories. Now let's move over to. Ah, Another story that is also devastating is on a smaller but more personal level here in the city of Los Angeles, And that is the story of Saturday night when two deputy sheriff's deputies were shot point blank in Compton. Steve Gregory has been covering that for Ko Phi and Steve. What What a story and how hard it is. Except there actually is somewhat of a silver lining here, and that is the extent of the injuries of the sheriffs. And it doesn't look like even though they were shot at point blank sitting down. It doesn't look like traumatic brain injury where they don't probably going to survive. No good morning, Bill. Yeah. You know, when I got the call on Saturday night, I was actually driving back up from Orange County and my boss called in. All he said, was you need to get over to Compton ASAP to Debbie's been shot in the head. I was just like Holy hell, and that was the only thing that I had to work on. And by the time I was driving over Instead of going to the train station, the blue Line station in Compton, where the shooting happened, ended up into ST Francis Medical Center in Lynwood, where the deputies have been taken, and there was a lot of just anytime, a story like that happens. Whether it's through my sources or the sources of my colleagues that are sitting or standing next to me. Work weren't gathering all this information and we're getting all kinds of stuff coming in, and you know, we don't know what's true. What's not true. At one point, they said the female deputy had died. On bare, You know, there's just all this stuff going on have been posted on social media. They were already doing like memorials, Tour and Finally a 10 o'clock Saturday night. Sheriff Ian Away. Ava and the captain of Homicide Bureau. Can't Wagoner came up to a podium? And they began to tell us and so what I'm gonna do is I'm going to let sort of Kent Wagner here set up what happened and he'll kind of gives an overview of what they sorry. And does he have the timeline when the deputies were shot until the time that they went public with it? Yeah. So here's Here's what Here's What happened, Okay? Shortly before 7 P.m..

"Jennifer Wayne comes back tomorrow and me. There we go. Well, there is a public there was a public radio journalist who was arrested over the weekend during a protest. Really Interesting story. Yeah, So it's a KPCC and latest reporter Josie Wang. Up from the ground. They're showing several deputies. There's video of it, pulling her up from the ground, handcuffing her outside ST Francis Medical Center, and earlier the video show deputies pushing her away from a patrol car where somebody was detaining a guy, so it looks like she was going over there trying to stop them from detaining the guy, or at least you know, might have been. I don't know what she was shouting at them or what? But then everything sort of went from there. Yeah, and it said, this is where it gets a little ah, wonky or a little hinky, actually, ah, she's she gets involved. In three altercation, right? She's not a reporter at that moment, simply reporting and looking at what's happening. So she how gets involved. The police are seeing someone just getting involved and they're gonna argue she's interfering with ah, a police encounter. She is screaming. I'm a reporter. I'm a reporter. They are saying that she'd identity didn't identify herself. It's press and she later admitted she didn't have the proper press credentials on her person. Now did she have any press credentials? Was she wearing? It wasn't easy to see. And if they're not proper, how the police going to know Oh, that's not appropriate that that's not a real police press credential, so Ah, it's Ah. If it turns out that she yelled. I'm about poor grammar reporter in intervene. I got to tell you the fact she's a reporter is incidental to the process. Reporters should not jump in. Because she intervened with the police at that moment, and she is simply someone intervening. It's only ask you if you're covering that, because you are a alleged reporter, unlike well, me, But then I don't pretend to be. Would you intervene? No matter what was happening if a police were beating someone up Oh, that wouldn't jump in. If I could see where maybe my Just my morality would take over and I think I might jump in the middle. But not without knowing there were repercussions. You would recognize that you're done as a reporter at that moment. Well, yeah, And maybe the other thing would be if I just thought that something inappropriate was happening, but not not where somebody was going to be hurt. I would just call I would call the station. They put me on the air, so I'd understand what actually happened because we're getting different stories, and I haven't seen the video. And so that is merely speculation on my part. I don't think it's being refuted that she actually got involved. No. Yeah, sitting. Ah, ah and Yeah. All right. In Georgia. There is a white sheriff's deputy who can be seen in this video, repeatedly punching a black man who was pinned to the ground and now that sheriff's deputy has been fired..
