Small businesses in Illinois anxious to reopen as stay-at-home orders continue

"Too but joining us now is only here on the station is actually an advertiser you may recognize some of his don Rogers spots but he's also in alderman ward eight over in Belleville Illinois Roger what waiting ten thank you so much for coming to cable acts thank you so much but I appreciate the opportunity yeah I was wondering and I think it's important to point out your someone that's an elected official and also a business owner and you're in Illinois so there's a lot of different conflict dean areas that some of that one open up some are fighting open up some that are fighting to say well we're just gonna do whatever our dear leader says they want to do with the governor says and what they are basically saying is like almost like everyone is for themselves but they're not and I really wanted to get your take on this because I think you do have a unique perspective as a business owner and also an elected official sh well you know I'm a business owner to get into politics that but sure sure and I'm gonna tell you something right off the bat I saw this the other day if Walmart target CVS and Walgreens can be open without killing people like you have small business and and this is my take you know we've got a lot of let's face it small businesses still the backbone of this country anyway you look at it we're talking people to put their lives or livelihood specially stores boutiques mom and pop stores there we have not even considered art are talked about and you know these are kind of operations where you could get these tank you could open your store or your business probably what it was one or two people you don't have to worry about having fifteen twenty employees how do people in your store the disparity right now is incredible why I reached out the last couple weeks to overstate wraps at one of our senators and ask them to lobby on behalf of small business yeah I take it you know what we will we understand where you're coming from we noticed yesterday we've got to move forward well not only did they get together and and I applaud them but on the governor's desk today there was a letter from two senators by state reps are sick account executive Maribel Belkacem other mayors asking if we could open up tomorrow as our chairman mark princess our metrics are down everything's in line and we wanted to get open now she says start generating some some rather you get a last ride in city battle with laid off fifty six people if we don't go back to work pretty soon Mr generate some revenue the next that's not gonna be pretty this one was not easy it was heart wrenching but you know the governor today you know they talk about neighboring states Indiana Wisconsin Missouri you guys are open now you're opening for malls next Monday you know what we're gonna lose a lot of business does never favoring states now the governor said today he said well if you go to the neighboring states you might bring back cover nineteen will you go to the grocery store you might bring back Colbert nineteen the bachelorettes we're gonna lose a lot of business and a lot of people are going to go over there and they're gonna say you know what we like shopping over there what a shot was very organised shop in Wisconsin there are Indiana and you know it the fact of matter yes and the governor said today our positivity is going down now he wants to open up may twenty nights the four regions the phase three you know what the difference between cook county at Southern Illinois it's like the north and south all as far as the number of deaths they should still be in phase two we should be in stage three they should be moving into three we should be moving into four and and yet okay there's eleven counties in central Illinois there are lobbying the governor right now to open I saw an interview the mayor of graft in this afternoon just reading the open date they've gone to such tough times and trust me I understand but you know we are taking an absolute beating and is a very fine line between livelihoods and lives because you don't have a likelihood you don't have a large yeah and I think that'll some governors get that there's some areas that need extra attention and Chicago will be in one of the hot spots in very close to all of us here but outside of Chicago in the further south you get in Illinois you notice that there is a much less need into demand also on the hospitals in you find that you can responsibly open things back up however to be clumped in with areas that are in you know hi need in high attention like Chicago it's just really unfair for the rest of the areas that are ready to open up and I feel like there's more people at this point that are anticipating that this phase has to move on but what really is is strange to me are some cities that seem that they're ready are just falling in line with what the governor says and they they want to be able to just say okay tell us what's best for us when there's some areas like in Belleville for example that are saying we know what's best for us we want to take care of ourselves and I think that's how it should happen I think the governor should allow the individual areas like Belleville and many of the other ones that have stood up as of late into let them govern the way that they they feel fat and that's what really should be happening well you know we had a lot you know we understand the parameters now people understand this code nineteen is that gonna go away overnight we're gonna live with this for years and years to come we've got to get used to it and but you know what he had to put the fear of god in the in the Madison County and today in his press conference she talked about this letter that he received from St Clair county and he pretty much said the same thing you know if you open up your accept the consequences to me that's incredibly heavy handed I can tell you what he was up ramp Alexion Sinclair county stepped up to the plate big thanks to back him yeah I know what you people have now have got to make your own decisions whether it's right or
