Ilan Berman Describes Why Russia 'Needs' Ukraine

"And there's really not a lot of understanding about why Russia cares so much about Ukraine. Why Ukraine really occupies why Ukraine is as the kids say living rent free and Vladimir Putin's head. But the reason is because Ukraine is the wellspring from which the Russian imperial impulse sprang. Without Ukraine, without Kievan Rus', there's no Russian Empire. So you can not be a new Russian Empire without subjugating Ukraine

Condemning Anti-Americanism

"Okay, so let's hear, let's hear Julie and Harvard. If we lose freedom in America, there is no place to escape to. This is the last stand on earth. President Ronald Reagan. Last spring break, I went on a trip with a hundred other Harvard undergraduates to Israel. It was one of the most extraordinary experiences of my life, and I will always be grateful to Harvard for that. I recalled the trip with awe and joy, but a certain moment rattled me. Our group attended a Shabbat dinner at a Tel Aviv synagogue. The rabbi proclaimed, welcome to Israel. You are all here from America, the best country in the world. He paused. But not a single person clapped.

How Chip Lake Became a Political Consultant

"Let's start off chip. One sort of give a little bit of your background and how you got started and all this. And the good part about it is almost like up front here to sort of keep us both out. Neither one of us are in this cycle really. I mean, we know campaigns and we've helped some others, but for the most part, chip and our experiencing something neither one of us experienced in a long, long time, and that is the ability to just talk about these campaigns without being indirectly involved in them. And I think I know from my perspective, it's been a refreshing. I know talking to you if it has been for you as well. But how did you get into this? It's a great question, Doug. So as you had mentioned, I went to auburn and I was to age myself. I was an auburn in the early to mid 90s. And long story short was a member of the college Republicans at auburn. And we had a state party chairman from an adjacent state, Georgia, come down to speak to us at one of our chapter meetings on, I think it was Tuesday night. Because his daughter was a member of our was a member of our college Republicans group. And that person was rusty Paul, who was the state chairman at the time for the Georgia Republican Party. He since went on to become a state senator. And now he is mayor of Sandy Springs. And I walked up to him after the after he gave a speech and I asked him if he had any internships available. And he said, absolutely call, you know, call me, you know, next week and we'll get you set up. And the reality is the rest is history. I was a political science and public administration major down there and I really didn't know what I wanted to do for a living. And, you know, I'm 49 years old right now, and I still feel like I'm in that position, you know? I mean, as you mentioned, this is my first cycle. Really, since I was a teenager, where I haven't been directly involved in the campaign. And it's been it's been a lot of fun to be able to watch this from the

"With $1 million on the line drivers through caution to the wind and the NASCAR all star race at Texas Motor Speedway and at the end of the night it was Ryan Blaney taking home the big check I don't really spend a lot of money so probably put it in the banker Put it towards the retirement fund I don't know But we'll see I might buy a new set of tires for a new motor for dance spring cartoon That's probably what I'll do Blaine survived four separate stages avoided multiple cautions and as he crossed the finish line the caution came out He thought he had won the race and dropped his window net but the race wasn't over and then he had to re secure the net and hold off Denny Hamlin who was chasing him down from second I think that caught all of us off guard and so it was kind of short lived panic mode in my spot of like how the hell am I going to get this window net back up Austin Cedric finished third Jerry Jordan Fort Worth Texas

Is This the Last Year of Roe v Wade?

"Over the years, courts have and states have been pushing this envelope. And it's undue burden test, and it's been building. Up over the years in the spring court, we're seeing it more and more over the past 20 years. And during that time, you have seen the activism rise more and more into which there was not state solutions because they felt bound by roe V wade. They had to go through the court route. So you have the same prolong community for a number of years been looking for opportunities to challenge roe V wade. You saw that, you know, coming through the 90s with Casey. In those cases, it came forward. And then continuing on to make sure that the Supreme Court so in a presidential election, again, abortion conservatives would always come up and because the appointments of the Supreme Court to the Supreme Court by the president. The court now sits at 6 to three on the conservative scale with most will tell you that there are 5 votes now for if not overturning row all the way, at least curtailing it a great deal. And possibly as many as 6. Now, the reason I say 6 is they're using Roberts is the up and download here Roberts in these questioning recently in the case. Question the trimester system. I think he, if you look at his years prudence, it would be very hard for him to do a construct that is not grounded in some ways that he feels in law. This is the problem with Rowe. Rowe was not constructed out of the constitutional enumerated ride. It was constructed out of what was what we understood from Douglas justice Douglas as this Phnom or the shadow. In other words, that they existed in the edges of these known rights of speech and assembling in all these things that the other numerated even that we had some justice in the 9th actually talk about. So you're seeing a court now that is sharply divided.

Dinesh D'Souza: How Will Republicans React to '2000 Mules?'

"Saw some clips and this is a fantastic movie It is fantastic There is no denying your eyes are not lying when you see these guys just coming with bundles of ballots and shove them into these boxes And let me ask you something at this point has law enforcement at any level seen this movie Well I will tell you that through the vote has filed an official complaint with the Secretary of State of Georgia and this guy Brad raffensperger a Republican by the way has based upon the information provided opened up a new investigation And he's in fact recently issued subpoenas He says he's going to get to the bottom of it Now the reason this is a little bit dicey is this is the same Brad raffensperger who got into a verbal spat with Trump This is the same guy who declared the election with completely secure in Georgia This is the same guy who was lionized in the media as a Republican standing up against Trump So for this guy to now turn around and go you know what I was the sheriff but they're robbed They committed the robbery right under my nose and I really didn't notice it's going to be pretty hard for him to do that So I don't really know where this is going to go I'm optimistic that they're looking at it then there's of course the Republican attorney general barnaby and Arizona I'd love him to see the movie He's going to be jumping out of his seat So there are things that Republican attorneys general secretaries of state and even Republican legislatures can do Of course I have less hope that the Democrats in places like Michigan or Pennsylvania are going to spring into action In fact they might spring into action to figure out how do we cover this thing up

"The NASA minute. With Kevin mason. People always seem to talk about which of their seasons is the favorite. I've always admitted I don't like winter. I don't like the cold. I don't like the snow. Some people like the fall, but my allergies don't treat me that well so much then. For me, summer probably my favorite season, but there's something I realized about spring the other day that I just truly don't like. And it's one sound. The sound of a lawn mower. Now here in Nashville, our lawn mower season is a long one. We started mowing our lawn back in March, and we'll probably go through maybe even Thanksgiving depending upon the weather. So we're mowing lawns all the time. But right about the 1st of April, the lawn mowers in the neighborhood kick in. And of course, we do ours on the weekend when we've got the time, but some of the folks who live lawn mower services will always happen during the week. And usually early in the morning. And I realized how much I hate that sound of the lawn mower, because it's just a constant drone as you're trying to do your work. And of course, everybody gets their lawns mode on different days, so it's like almost once or twice a day, somewhere in the neighborhood. You hear that little buzzing of a lawn mower for about a good half hour. I know I'm complaining.

"You also get into another area that I think is going to be very important here. I think it's contributed to Joe Biden's falling poll numbers. And that is the absolute debacle of Afghanistan and the removal from Afghanistan. Now there's a lot of people who thought, including myself that it was time to start drawing down to negligible amounts, the war in Afghanistan and turning that back over to the country, letting the Afghanistan people be the predominant determiner of how their world will exist. And when you look at it, there was ways Donald Trump began this process. He began pulling out, but he also made it very clear that there were going to be conditions on this. And if they wasn't conditions made at the Taliban didn't meet conditions, if the Afghanistan government, then this was off. Joe Biden's unilateral withdrawal deciding to do it last spring and then say by the September 11th, which is, again, another political date, not a military date. Which supposedly you had military some military leaders saying this shouldn't happen. They were counseling him on the fact that it wouldn't take very long for the Taliban to be back in control. Intelligence will tell them that, but many of the advisers were saying always going to be okay and they continue that lie up until we're flying jets out of there under very stressful conditions, giving Taliban control of the security around the airport and it led to 13 American lives being lost. It also left meant that we left a lot of people who we had promised to get out of Afghanistan. We left them there. In fact, some actually who did get on the planes were not vetted. They were not the right people. They did not go through the proper process, but yet when you do it poorly, this is what happens. And the Biden administration just botched Afghanistan.

"I asked the team to remind me what this audience did in the month of March for our food for the poor campaign because we always do a spring campaign for this wonderful Christian ministry. Great relief organization and they shifted and focused on Ukraine and you came through to the tune of, are you ready for this? $179,000 in one month. And then we did a double ask, then I asked you if you would please help the international fellowship of Christians and Jews move supplies into Ukraine, considering what those people are experiencing. And fly Ukrainians out of Ukraine on the empty planes, the emptied out planes into Israel. And I told I told everybody here at the company, I said, guys, we're asking a lot of our audience. And you know, I've got one particular executive at Salem, guy by the name of Mike Reid, who's a runs the sales effort throughout the whole country and the whole company is Mike. You always say that and your audience just always astounds with their generosity. I absolutely acknowledge that I have a very special family of listeners. And look at what happened already well over a 120,000 this month, three and a half weeks or so for our international fellowship of Christians and Jews campaign. That means we've raised over $300,000 that's a lot of God's work. Just on the Mike Gallagher show.

"Think we wouldn't be good credible journalists if we didn't talk about smiley's partial nudity, it's spring break. Yeah, we need to talk about partial nudity here on spring break. How did that trip? How did that trip come? You've probably talked about a million times, but the people want to know more than anything. How did that trip come about? That was the week after Augusta, wasn't it? It was two weeks after. So I think Ricky and JT decided to play Hilton head the following week. And JT, thanks to me about going on to bakers. I guess I was first alternate and got in. The fourth was at the time. And I was at it as a fourth. Which was awesome. I was like, cool. Those three guys are great. Love them all. And so we had known were going on this trip prior to Augusta. So going into the final group of Augusta, I've known Jordan like casually, but I had been on a trip with them. We went to different schools, you know, we didn't really talk a ton in college. So our first really time we played together was at Augusta on Sunday and so we knew we were about to go drink a lot of beers together, but we knew it was going to happen later. So we were like, all right, and so after that trip, you know, hey man I both obviously had steam we needed to get out. And just from playing bad. And then I think JT or Rick both shot a million at Hilton head. We get to baker's coming in hot. Like, I mean, all four of us are white. We played some really bad golf. We need to drink a million beers. And yeah, we just had a hell of a time. And Rick was pretty big on social media at the time, obviously. He's always been pretty big on it. And so is JT. This was kind of when Rick was a big social media guy. And Jordan really didn't do a whole lot. I had probably 5, 10,000 followers at the time at the end of the trip. I had so many. It was just like, what is going on? A lot of people here. People like the content. We were just being, you know, I think it was just we were being ourselves and it was a

"The lightbulb kind of came off for me, spring semester, my senior year, put a ton of work in that off season, from a swing perspective. I was always not the most weight ball striker. In college, I was probably one of the better putters in short game guys in college. I think that's what kind of chuck saw in my game as well, our coach, and he just always said if he can get on the green as much or more than everyone else, then you're going to be there and then a golf tournament. And eventually, I started getting control of the golf ball, you know, where I could kind of point and shoot where I was looking and then from there I was able to be on the green as much as everybody else and quickly I started getting a lot of confidence. It kind of belief in myself. Kind of had took a lot of ownership and my golf swing. And playing week to week, that spring of my senior year just building confidence is a week, weeks came on, was able to qualify for the U.S. open right out of school. That's right. Yeah. And that was like the big, I think it was I qualified in locals while I was in school and then right after NCAA's did sexual and made it through pretty easily. And at that point, I was like, I was still thinking about doing another summer of amateur golf. Because I was like, I'm so ready to get to the top of amateur golf because I really just hadn't broken through yet. And I was like, at this point, I make the U.S. open. I'm like, well, that decision's made easy. I'm going to definitely turn pro now. And from there, just had a really nice summer. Didn't make the count to be open, but it felt like my game, you know, when you get to that was the best thing that could happen to him. "To film spotting the last couple of weeks. Josh have seen some of the most high profile new releases we've had since movie theater shutdown back. In March Hamilton arrived on Disney plus two weeks ago. We talked about that on last week's episode also last week. I recommended Gina Prints by woods, the old guard with Charlene Darren. That came to Netflix's weekend. And that's when you caught up with Josh and they understand. You liked it. Maybe not as enthusiastically as I did, but you went forward. Okay? Yeah, consider me. Me a fan, I think I probably became a little more wearied by the gunplay. Which you mentioned was your talked about it probably a little more than you did, but yeah, definitely appreciated and think it's something that people should check out. Last weekend also saw the release of the World War Two thriller Greyhound with Tom Hanks that's on apple, plus neither of us have had a chance to see that yet, but fellow critics have assured us that the nation's fathers and grandfathers have a new favorite movie and Josh. Also last weekend, the new horror film relic available on demand. Palm Springs. The groundhog day inspired comedy which is available on. You saw relic. We both saw Palm Springs, and we'll give each of those a little bit of time later in the show, but first tires. Please cue up our review discussion of Christopher. Interstellar. We haven't mentioned our mission does not work if the people on our dead by the time you pull it off. That this far any human history, not far no! Doubt. Yes, you are yes, you are. Upon, its release in two thousand fourteen atom, we gave interstellar a robust thirty minute review. You were hugely enthusiastic. I was mixed to negative. You remain a big Fan and you've seen it sense I believe right. Yeah, all right in two thousand seventeen. They're going meter. Yup, at the music box theatre where it's going to be playing again this weekend actually here in Chicago in seventy millimeter interstellar currently ranked number two on your Nolan. List for me this. Who've review was my first revisit sense two thousand fourteen now on the two of us. The movie has a score of seventy four. Critic among critics that's considered generally favorable, and for what it's worth. Most of Nolan's movies hover around the seventies on metacritic Dunkirk. That's his highest rating there with a ninety four. So that's where we stood. But where do we stand now in two thousand twenty? Have you add them passed through a wormhole and come out on the other side to see the error of your ways have I been sucked into a black hole trapped behind some cosmic bookshelf as punishment until I admit the air of mine. We could relitigate are twenty fourteen debate. We could revisit the same points. We both brought up, but I'm not sure how fruitful that would be I'm happy to do some of that and I promise I will not bring up a certain nineteen, sixty eight sci-fi epic. You declared verboten when discussing interstellar listeners, they can revisit that whole discussion in the archives at film spotting dot net episode five fifteen. Today. I'd like to start where that review ended in a last-minute attempt to bring me on board Adam. You asked me if I wasn't just plain thrilled watching interstellar. If setting aside my complaints quibbles, I couldn't admit to having a thrilling movie going experience. I quickly answered in the negative and we moved on. Watching interstellar again, and this was before I, release into I review or even read what I had written about in two thousand fourteen. This was the exact question I found myself asking especially in the context of our overview with so many Nolan films fresh in my mind at their best. His movies do thrill me. They get me Giddy. There's always a moment. Nolan blows your Noggin, intellectually emotionally existential early, and all I can do is let out a Guffaw of appreciation. We've already talked about some of these. These moments in our overview. I think of Memento where Leonard says I'm chasing this guy. Nope he's chasing me. Or how about the image of the hats in the prestige? When we realize what's really going on here and I know you care less about it than I, do Adam, but the spinning top in those final moments of inception. Wow on twitter this week marking. The tenth. Anniversary Kevin Geogra- Nov, said this a decade later and I still remember the entire pact prescreening audience audibly gasping at the smash cut ending. That was me.
