"Of a sudden it pooches through and i see the flames get brighter and then i hear the call on the radio of like yeah. We're we're through the retarded line at this point you know. And it's burning down into warm springs canyon now. Not great news for john and kelly. The two chalan firefighters assigned to protect homes in that neighborhood. The shaw-lan county fire district is only staffed up enough to fight one house fire at a time but during the fight against the red apple fire they needed to defend over two hundred fifty homes. They had help and support from other districts but resources were limited and they could only do so much and those aircraft trying to box in the fire and keep it contained. They can only operate during the day on that first night of the fire. Kelly remembers watching the sun. Go down and the airplanes leaving with it all sudden. They just flew off into the sense that. That was a daunting daunting time. Just because you now you know the rest of the evening is is on us. I wanna see the work that john kelly were doing firsthand so we drive up to the end of a cold. A sack in the neighborhood they'd been protecting. Both sides of the valley in front of us are scorched black. The remains of the fire go all the way up to the ridge above us. It's a shocking view. A scar on the landscape trees and shrubs just a foot or so away from homes are fried a white vinyl fence is charred and laze melted on the ground. I realized just how close some homes came to disaster. John tells me what it looked like that first night. And we're watching the smoke rise and you can see the fire growing because the orange hues in the sky right and it's becoming darker knife false upon us. It is windy.

"Politically to unlock enough public. Land for a small hurting community to support itself when he switched from two cows. It was both good and bad. I mean he could just get out with his goats on and go that you can't do that with cows but on the other hand you have to have counts and have the lease. Let me explain that last part. The vast majority of the land in the arid west of the united states is public land administered by the us bureau of land management the forest service or another governmental entity. But that doesn't mean that. This land is protected far from it across much of this area extending from borderlands of the sonoran desert north throughout the great basin to the border with canada. Livestock grazing isn't just allowed. It's mandated in order to hold a lease. You have to have a brand and you have to have cattle and you're supposed to graze it. According to the center for biological diversity. Livestock grazing is promoted protected and supported by federal agencies on approximately two hundred seventy million acres of public land in the eleven western states ranchers lease huge amounts of land by paying modest fees at below market rates in other words ranching on public lands in the arid west is highly subsidized and while many ranchers have adopted practices to mitigate the harm that cattle can caused wild lands. They represent the minority throughout the history of the united states. Poor grazing practices have predominated resulting in ecological damage and degradation at a massive scale despite the damage the heavy subsidization the marginal amount of actual production involved and the fact that most ranchers can barely make enough money to keep ahead of their debts. This system remains largely in place to this day. But jim and the sua juniper associates recognized an opportunity in this dysfunctional state of affairs with a herd of cattle a little bit of capital and the promise to graze they could lease the public lands surrounding the one hundred and thirty five acres. So juniper plot and steward at collectively. Jim would be able to apply. His philosophy of pastoral symbiotic at a landscape scale grazing use. That is in harmony with the untamed biotic community and displaces injurious commercial grazing is therefore the key to the redemption of these lands. So when jim corbett spoke of land redemption he was proposing nothing less than the restoration of the wild lands of the arid west through covenant community and cow human symbiosis and with thousands of acres in and around hot springs canyon now at his disposal he set out to see if it could be done on the second day of our retreat alana. An i set out from the hermitage to explore hot springs. Canyon it was a cloudless day and the canyon. Walls stood in stark relief against the open skies. It didn't take me long to realize that the sonoran desert is a botanist stream. What looks like a tangle of dry brush. A distance opens up into a world of plucky barrel cacti stoic gov as trailing wild grapes elegant that cheers and gregarious hobos and wildflowers of breathtaking variety and color raptors songbirds toads scorpions. Grasshoppers rattlesnakes and even a desert tortoise greeted us on the trail as we made our way up the wash and after a couple of miles. We heard the siren song of all desert. Travelers the trickle of creek. The cool water was a welcome reprieve to the increasing heat of the day. And i couldn't help but notice the quality of the right perry and vegetation and the water and the ecosystem in general honestly. It was hard to believe that. Suara juniper runs a herd of cattle and these lands but clearly they take great care to avoid inflicting damage.

"Which is like your inner community that you probably already feel with your family but then whispering canyon has its own community again. Kind of like skipper canteen with the wait staff. They are full of shenanigans. All the little things that they do You know and it's bringing you together with the other. People who are eating because the waiters are shouting things out about your table. Maybe they ask you to bring them catch up so you have to run across the restaurant. What some catch up. You might be parading around the restaurant you might be. You know chanting something whatever it might be. You know you're laughing at each other. You're helping each other out with the catch up and there's you know there's that bigger community there and i think anyone who's ever eaten at whispering canyon knows exactly what i'm talking about. That is a really good one. Think it never even crossed my mind when you first said that. I thought you were going to go. Chef mickey's but that's how was bring kenyans a good one as well. Anyway maybe this is your movie you go home and watch it on youtube okay. Well that would work too. I do have a movie but this could be. This could also be my music music that goes with this. This is one that. For many understandable reasons is very underwhelming and under light. But i went with rivers of light. Oh my goodness i know. It's kind of curve ball. But i think animal kingdom because i didn't include animal kingdom in my day yet. There is quite the sense of community there. As far as how can we work together for conservation. How can we work together to be better people and save the planet and all the things that they're doing there and i think this night show embody that i mean the fourth act was titled. We are one and it was about bringing all the elements together and how they all work together. Said i mean that kind of spoke community to me. You are just like all of your leading. Statements are throwing me off so much not we're not on the same wavelength. I thought you were going to eliminate whole.

That our military members face not just while they're deployed around the world, but also some of the legal and policy challenges that they also have to learn how to navigate well at this intersection of faith in the profession. Now you're the guy behind the desk or with the gun. What's your vision for the future? Where is CF going? What path is out there? What do you see the challenges So it's a great question, and I mean I'll just be really open. My main heart is just that we continue. Teo focus on the foundational pillars a fellowship prayer in the Bible. I think we're gonna have to figure out what it means even more than we already have a continuing a partner with other organisations in the ministry and come alongside is one church. And also make sure that as the military tries to be reflective of society, that our membership is also reflective so that we can reach all people. In the Lord's image, and just with the gospel message in the good news. What is the average person who wants plugs in those CF? What's their life like, or one of the opportunities typically available for a career person as they move from place to place through their career. Denny. That is a great question and the bread and butter you will are the local fellowships that we have. We are predominantly lay ministry at the very since relations throughout the world and also utilizing technology to reach out to people while they're deployed also so that they continue to have fellowship even if there isn't a local fellowship where they are. Conference centers remain just incredible platform for the Ministry of People as David likes to say of a spiritual DEP O, where you can come back with the military member of their family. And where you can just get reconnected and have some time to rejuvenate in your faith. So the conference centers both in White Sulphur Springs on the East Coast, and then Spring Canyon in the Rockies, or two wonderful opportunities there. And we have short term retreats. We have training throughout the year that you could go to and then you have just incredible summer programs at both locations and those air available literally. From whether you're a cadet and academy all the way through the We like to emphasize it. You know, the family is not just that one phase in your career, but it's for lifetime. And so you could do that. Whether you're just starting your career whether you retired there places to engage in a place for you and the CIA to make a difference in this ministry. Makes sense to me again. If I could add Scott nailed it, and he talked earlier about, you know, fellowship and the thing that you always grab it at me as I served, And then the thing we try to do as I was in the position of Scots and now was just to convince people and let them know they're not alone. That's the key, especially in this culture. You know, sometimes you may be the only Christian. Certainly, If you're in a leadership position, you may be the only Christian and so again. Scott talked about our ability to do things online virtually and again, it that started that local fellowship but throughout the career throughout the assignments throughout the deployments It's always to make sure people know that again. They're not alone. And Scott talk about the podcast. The podcast is really members Ministry remembers letting them know. Hey, I've been there. I'm experiencing what you've experienced. I've had to take a life in combat. You know, I've experienced spiritual warfare. I know what it's like. A man brought this Is colonel any given on front lines of freedom. We're talking about the officers Christian Fellowship with General Dave Warner and Colonel Scott Fischer. One of things that is incredibly intense now and has been for the last I don't know. I retired 35 years ago. That wasn't a case when I was there. I mean, I was careful about what I did, but that's got to be a very sensitive topic. That's our last topic for today. Scott or Dave, Take a shot. Please let me take the first shot at it. First of all, if somebody has to ask your inquire or find a Bible to determine if you're a Christian or not, I'd say you're flunking. And so first of all, tell you carry yourself. It's how you express things. People looking at your family life. You know, they ought to see the fruits of the spirit in everything you say everything you do how you act how you conduct business How you make decisions. So that's first and foremost. Secondly, you know, the Bible is the traders Leadership book, You know, no demand, and it's a gift from the Lord and it helps us in so many things, but certainly in leadership. And so there are so many pearls of wisdom there. You don't have to attribute them to Scripture. You don't have to say it came out of first, John. But again, the word that goes forth does not come back, boy. And so I prepared many, many leadership presentations, commanders calls, you know things I said when I got up there based on Scripture, I just didn't you know again apply it. You know the actual verses and everything. And so again, how you live your life how you integrate your faith in your profession. Again. You may need to be a little more over but at the end of the day, you know people want to be able to see the fruit again comes out of your mouth and comes out of the way you know to your life. I could just jump in there. Danny also totally agree with what David was saying. "This is Colonel Donnie Gill misses the final formation. With this hour on front lines of freedom. We continue our conversation with General Dave Warner and Colonel Scott Fisher about the officers Christian Fellowship. Scott. I didn't ask you before. Take a minute now and tell us about your military service and how you got involved with the Officer Christian Fellowship. Okay, I would be glad to. So my dad went through naval RTC from the University of Michigan and served and then went into the reserve. So I do have Ah, and his father was also in the Navy. So I have two generations of navy and then I went and chose to go Air Force. We would call that progress in our family. But I won't let my dad listen to this, so hopefully he won't hear that. But I ended up going into the Air Force Academy and got very involved with a variety of para church organizations there, including CF but did not actually join O CF until I was in pilot training. As a lieutenant and I joined at that time with my wife and we just fell in love with it and have been actively involved for over 25 years. My military journey. "Golly thank you so much for having me on, so tell me something good. Wow. I know. Well, I'm pretty sure lawyer. Your listeners heard that we had our service like stolen on on flag day. You know who would ever think Fort Collins, Colorado. This would happen but I don't think anything malicious. I mean we had fourteen American flags out there, too. So I think somebody just saw the service bikes it. HOW COOL I want! Those and they took him. The downside is you know we're nonprofit? And every time something like this happens, it sets us back a bit. Now want to turn the money, but now we have to look at installing permanent flagpoles for a service flag so trump rinus well anywhere between twenty five and thirty thousand dollars. There, so it's not expensive. Really don't need this time. We have many projects that we're trying to take care of at the plaza and. Fundraising this year is just incredibly slow with the crow. Virus going on sure. Now for those that sadly have not been to Veterans Plaza because it's. Just, it's so wonderful. It's just inspirational and uplifting as it honors You know our servicemembers. Where were these flags positioned? That's the first question the second question. Do you have security at veterans? Plaza in terms of I don't know security cameras. Out. The flags are located of well I. Guess I better start with this. That's been sponsor is located Spring Canyon. Community Park and that's a people WANNA get there. The go west on tooth road till it dead ends that inside colder sack, and then on your right Spring Canyon Community Park which is ninety acres, a beautiful park, and as you enter the park on your life, you'll see the veterans. Plaza in what we love we will do is I will affect our American flags along the sidewalk the plaza, so they're visible from the parking. Lot is in the service flags. We're at the entrance. And Golly I'd do. You just wouldn't expect people to walk up. Be That bold. Walk on, but something like that I. Guess The the upside to it is whether it's six branches of service. ow With space for it's coming on board. I will only have five flags up, so that's one less after place. So If people in Basel. We'll have the flags up over the fourth of July weekend in occasionally. We have cameras out there because we had some. young adults vandalizing our our monitor's avert the plaza, so we had a camera on that for a while, and we took it down because they. They just quit doing what they were doing and shenanigans were going on. Yeah. Sometimes it goes from skateboarders tearing up concrete, but that's pretty much stopped. The vandalism on the miners stop, but now we have flagstone so over this. Week and we will have security out there, and that's a real shame, because that's all manpower that could be doing other things. diggs-brown. Founder of Veterans Plaza Veterans. Plaza by the way opened in two thousand eleven to honor current and past members of the military. With ties to Northern Colorado, Veterans Plaza, North Colorado located at Spring, Canyon. Community Park but you know once again as we look for the upside the silver lining in any situation. The community really rallied to the cause, didn't they? All. They did we we received. Donations have three thousand dollars worth of donations we had. The flag was donated to us from Saint Louis Upholstery. We had an insurance agent here in Fort Collins John Souza did a she didn't Claes competition. Help US raise money so. We've covered the cost of the flags, but like I said now it's a matter of building permanent flag in placements in. That's just an expensive. We really didn't want to want to have at this point time. But now it's not a priority, but it's going to happen now. Yeah, those digital monitors that display the names are indeed a priority, right? Yes. They are, and they're. They're both worn out and he'd be replaced those things. About seventy five hundred dollars a piece which. Whom you look at when we first started the house in two thousand eleven, they were twenty four thousand dollars fee, so the costs are coming down. Thank goodness. It's always something. The the plaza itself was was built off of donations about a million dollars. Worth of donations build this thing and. And we keep improving. Keep adding to it. We have a board of Directors were nonprofit. Nobody takes a salary. Every penny goes back into the plaza to prove it and make the experience better for the visitor. In for the the people who want more information on it, they can go to our website, which is Veterans Plaza Noko Dot Org or on facebook to. Plaza Northern Colorado. Well, it's good to hear that this story because I was flabbergasted when I read the, it's like you said the audacity, the cheesiness particularly I mean to steal those military flags to begin with, but to steal them on flag, day just absolutely reprehensible but so good to hear that the community is once again rallying to the support of just such. Such, a wonderful wonderful tribute to current and past members of the military with ties to northern Colorado. diggs-brown is founder of Veterans Plaza of Northern Colorado looking forward to the fourth of July there. You Know I. Remember the dedication in two thousand eleven because I had the pleasure and distinct honor of being there, and it's only grown and suddenly gotten better right. Parts. It's a thankless experiencing. We're both and we're and service in the nation, the veterans who provide that service, but we also have an educational component where we have speakers who can go to schools or corporations, rather nonprofits and speak on selfless service to the nation in the community and so we've got many different aspects of of what we provide to the community and it. It takes a community to sport this kind of upper also, it's just something that. My committee cannot just sit here and keep running swing by ourselves. We have all here's out that hell. And who donate, and it's all part of the experience it. It makes it so much better for everyone who comes out in the plaza. Is Beautiful. If I do, say so myself. And just have people come out? We have for instance a group of Vietnam. Veterans who come out on Wednesday have their lunch together out there before they all go off to their group therapy session, and we have other groups that come out and just enjoy the plaza and taking. The the appreciation of of everything that our action have done for this nation in this community. Numbering honoring with civility and respect. That's what it's all. Things were hung author and Servicemember himself with the ear Green Beret. Right with Colorado National Guard. Well Yeah I did thirty four years so I was active duty reserve in the guard when I moved to Colorado. And Thirty four years I do it all again. If I went so beat up. And they. Man. Come on now state of mind. diggs-brown, Brown founder of Veterans Plaza of Northern, Colorado and Spring Canyon Community Park so glad to hear that this story has a good positive ending and again if we want to get engaged and involved with Veterans Plaza that website. Veterans Plaza. No Co.. Dot Org. And also on face the facebook Veterans Plaza Northern Colorado and that we've put out a lot information on facebook, so people are interested in like. Restaurants so there if I think those two are both on the Disney dining plan but you're gonNA. have to credits per if you wanted to eat at each of those and Then Victorian Albert's is is a really upscale restaurant. I think all three of those you would really want address on nicer than than normal, but but Victorian Albert's I think is like suit, jackets and ties sorts of environment or at least suit jackets. And on the websites they have the dress code act requirements, but Victorian Albert's is. A kind of place that you go for your. For your anniversary or something like that I really something you're gonNA celebrate. You'RE GONNA. You'RE GONNA spend a few hours here eating at that place because you're celebrating a very special moment. And then taking things back a little bit though we've got the nineteen hundred part fair and we ate there once, didn't we sophie? Yes I think we did. I personally don't remember it, but I have a member like. Probably being able to see it. Yeah nineteen. Hundred Park Fair in the morning. It's Breakfast with Alice in Wonderland. And the in the mad hatter, but in the evening is dinner with Cinderella in her prints and the stepmother and the stepsisters. And When we ate there, we ate there for dinner and And the step sisters were. In my pay I, thought they were Kinda rude in. You don't like them. I am one. So, so we haven't been there since, but we don't know they were in character. They were very much in character so. Yeah so I think that was what they were there to do anyway next one. Anyway the next one is the Grand Floridian Cafe, and that's a casual dining, so it's a one one credit under ten on the dining plan to table service and then This one Sheila says is her absolute favorite that they make a reservation when they leave, because it's just a relaxing way to have a last great meal before they had back home. And then there's also gasparilla island grill which is a quick service, so Yup As for recreation, we have. The usual we have the pools movies under the stars, the Campfire activities and we have other things to because this is a very special resort Daddy. Yeah so You know you can. You can get Cabana Reynolds. Boat Rentals and You can actually also do specialty cruises. The NEAT thing about that is The takes you around the seven Seas Lagoon, and you see different things from from around there so I haven't done that, but it sounds interesting kind of my interest. A little bit might be worth taking a look at maybe on a future podcast. We'll talk about some of the specialty tours and things that we might want to look at. But But. Yeah, so they have a lot of different things that you can do there. in addition to just you know your standard once, but But for me, the resorts are all about proximity to the parks, and just being close to the magic kingdom as words about for me, so yeah, which is why we use the three big magic kingdom resort for this one, and they actually are all very special in that. The monorail runs through all of them. Has All three of the as for sorts have a monorail attached to their resort, so you can easily just. Go to the monorail. Take a loop around if you wanted to. But of course you would want to hit the magic kingdom. Sorry, those the table Melissa Table. Here anything, but that's okay But yeah, and that's the key. Is the the fact that you want to You know you want to make sure you get your time in because that's necessary. Yes! So some some other great ones you know that we didn't touch on, but some other great resorts under this category are wilderness lodge. With Spring Canyon with Whispering Canyon Cafe, which was a really great. for faith in her. Yeah it was a really great birthday dinner celebration. We had with with Randy last year and then Over in other parts of the resort you've got Sir took a springs. And and that's great. That's a great one and old old key west, which is a DVD properties. Original BBC property the great great resorts to to stay at as far as the the feel of the resort. You know they all have different naming for that for those. You know, you're further away, so. Airbus is you're going to be bus transportation to. To get into the the parks Over the boardwalk area. You've got the boardwalk. in borough villas, and then you got the art club and the Beach Club which are sister resorts, sitting side by side to each other, so those are great access to Epcot in Hollywood studios. And then You've got the new Riviera resort which. Is Right there in that same proximity as well so So there's just a lot of great resource to to check out and and I. Think this whole whole look at the different resort. Sophie just showing US how many resorts? The yet to stay at. Oh Yeah. I'm, GONNA. Make it a bucket list if I'm gonNA live in Florida. I'm going to be able to send one of my loved ones. At least one of my loved ones to every single one of these. There you go okay well for for me, Golan okay well. You'll be living in Florida, too. So of course well, we'll see. We'll see what happens there. Well anyway I think that about wraps it up for the swamp. I think that wraps up our feature. Look at her. feature topics so if anyone has any questions about any of these resorts or any other resorts, shoot us an email.

"Welcome back. KFI AM six forty more stimulating talk Bill Handel here. Having you here. This is handle on the law. Marginal legal advice. Lacey. I had a question about realtor. No sorry. A tenant and a landlord issue. I had moved out in need an arrangement for five days after I moved out with my landlord that she was going to allow holy games to remove the water softener. So we didn't break anything if we took out herself. Breed does she agree in writing? No, she didn't. That's a problem in the water softener is attached. Right. You installed it in the house. We actually had them. Come out. Yeah. All right. You're you're screwed. Yeah. What about what we when we had moved in? We started using the fireplace. And the first winter we used that. We didn't really notice anything the second winter black residue started showing up throughout the house, and it was three stories, and it was through all three threes at house, we call her and I told her what had happened. And I said, you know, we just won't use the fireplace anymore. We're planning on moving anyway. You could just fix it. When we move out the when we had moved out. She is now wanting to keep my security. It's a problem, and you're going to have to sewer for that security deposit. Did she give you an that? You give you an accounting of why she's keeping it did. She mentioned specifically within three weeks. Why she's keeping in writing eight months later? You got you got her the super or you want to sue her for the entire scary deposit back, and she has I'm assuming you're in California. Right. Yeah. She has no defense. She has no defense. She she has to return country. I'm sorry. She left the country. You have to sue individually. There's nothing you can do. Okay. Right. That's what I'm gonna do. Now. Yeah. You get the sue everybody individually, isn't that lovely or the agent. You can also sue the agent if there is a management company they have to accept service. If there's a manager the manager accepts service can't say no to that. All right. Tiffany, welcome to handle on the law. Hi, I'm calling regarding that situation. I had a dispute with a family member recently there are some items of the family members stored at my residence and me and the family member we're working together to basically exchange the items in exchange for money that was stolen the family member proceeded to call the police in the police came with her to my apartment on a keeping the peace type situation. This was late at night. They're not happened to have been in the bed at the time. They knocked on the door. I did not get up to an certain time they proceeded to go to my landladies -partment wake her up and get the keys from her. That's happened. I find find out the next day. Call them lady to ask her if she had told the police that my niece lived at the residence because my niece is not on the list and did not technically live at the resident. What do you mean? Did not technically live at the residence. Wish I store she store some items there. Okay. But you never actually slept there. Right. Okay. Except that other places. Okay. So she told the police that my niece lived there. She said she did not tell the police that my niece live there. The police said that my niece nieces having trouble getting I from the apartment, and that she had to give them the keys. Okay. So they they take the key. And they walk into the apartment, right? Anything was anything taken Tiffany was anything taken. I guess there was I gave over some of the items. But I let them know that you know, some of the things was anything. Let me ask them. It was anything stolen was anything taken that shouldn't have been taken. And she said that that belonged to her and you were asleep in the other room. I walked up to the police outside of my bedroom door. All right. And how did that when when the items were taken out did you say, those are my items? I let them know that I have not had a chance to look through the item. All right, but they let but they let her, but they let her take items out of there. Okay. And even though you said, I haven't looked at those and they may be mine. All right. Okay. So how much is the value of those things? Not much. I would say less than one hundred dollars. Also, a a electronic item in play that's worth about one hundred and fifty dollars as well. All right. So let's to putting the money at two hundred fifty bucks worth of stuff. Okay.
