Paramount Plus wants to take on Disney Plus, HBO Max and Peacock
"Paramount plus made a big splash with a series of super bowl commercials. It probably led to folks wondering what the heck is. This thing you know clearly is bringing together. But cbs viacom shows and movies. But we've actually already had a version of applause for a couple of years now. It's cbs all access. So what's the deal here. So roger that the thing is. Cbs merged with viacom recently. And so what they're going to do is they're rebranding service to kind of all those other viacom properties. Mtv comedy central and also paramount studios. A rebranding to start out. So changing the name Probably a few logos and things like that. We saw the super bowl commercial featured a mountain that all of these well-known cbs characters on spongebob to picard to football players were climbing That's there it's mostly a rebrand. I think at launch. It's going to be mostly the same. Content is cbs access with a couple of new things. There isn't event coming up a week from today. actually a basically it is viacom. Cvs is but they're also taking that as an opportunity to run through some of the content in some additional details on paramount. Plus now we were. We were all sitting in tuning into the disney presentation back in november. Which i think it was four hours long and basically it was just a marathon session of new content. Are you expecting something similar from this event. Or what what what. what are you expecting. What are you hoping for at least get out of this from this event. So i'm hoping for some new exciting content. You know i. My hope is a little bit damp and by that super bowl commercial. You'd think if they were gonna launch a big splashy new show you know talk about some new stars they have. They would be enact commercial for the super bowl if anywhere but we'll see i. They've already said that. The why the launch is gotta be. Spongebob movie sponge on the run. But that's not an original. They've talked about few original properties They're saying coming soon. One called the lioness which is a better creator of yellowstone the hit series on paramount network which is also going to be on paramount plus yellowstone. That is so there's a few things but maybe they'll surprise us to be great to see you know a couple new. At least one new star trek series for example to kind of you know cater to fans who are looking for something new. And that franchise.

SpongeBob SquarePants Theory: Bikini Bottom Is A Nuclear Test Site
"Was start off with the world of Spongebob, squarepants? The conspiracy is that the whole world was created from from nuclear testing. I don't know why you're laughing. Well here's what supports the theory. It's Bikini. Bottom is the city in spongebob, but the actual site of nuclear testing was the I never know how to say it is a toll Bikini atoll. The Island Bikini Top. Now it's like the half island is called Anatol at L. is that how you say it Yeah. Sure. If. You ever have you seen like the islands in the ocean and? They. Look like a horseshoe or half moon or a crash. Sure. But little more than that I know how to move in a horseshoe. Yes. Those things. So they they knew your wild house today's. Now, that's why there's talking sponges talking squids talking fishes and Mr Crab has cooked all the crabs and. That's my own conspiracy theory.

Obviously those that are cheaper than that can easily stream get their money back, but. Movies are going to start being made for in this little..

Kid-Friendly TV Show Recommendations
"I think it's important to clarify. We're doing these recommendations are for very little kids and everything that we are talking about all of the recommendations on this episode our TV and I think there are parents of very young children and people who give advice to parents have very young children who tend to obsess over screen time and how much screen time a toddler should have look. These are unusual times and the first thing that I want to say before I even start doling out recommendations is just to remember that you're doing the best you can. You're doing fine if you need to put your toddler in front of a TV or a tablet and that is what needs to happen for you to stay sane for you to get your work done then so be it. Your kid is going to be fine. Your kid has you. That's what's important wanted to get that out there. I will also go so far. As to say as a person who obsessed about this didn't obsess about it goes back and forth the important part of the best you can is the you can part so if you are stuck on the fact well. The best is only two hours. It's the best that you can do. Given your circumstances your doing great exactly so. My first recommendation is something that my parents put in front of me. When I was very small child back in the seventies which has been fairly recently rebooted for new generations the electric company. The Electric Company is a educational children's program in the seventies it featured such wonderful luminaries as Rita Moreno. It has an extraordinarily charming kids show. That is really focused on education. But does it in such a warm and inviting and pleasant way so the original seventies electric company you can stream it via Amazon? It does cost money. You can find pretty lengthy excerpts of it on Youtube floating around and you know a lot of us who grew up in the seventies. We'll have you know like individual favorite moments from the electric company. I just remember that that was something that my parents really love to have on and around because though it was geared very very much too little kids and they say online. They say that it's geared toward five to nine but I think you can really go younger than that. My parents didn't go nuts watching it now. They recently rebooted the electric company from two thousand nine to twenty eleven. Those three seasons you can stream for free at PBS DOT ORG and As an incentive for parents who listen to this show and have not checked out the rebooted electric company one of the CAST members is William Jackson Harper. Who Played Chidi on the good place incentive to watch the new electric company Occasional guest spots and occasional music composition from one Lin. Manuel Miranda. I'LL AL. Obviously we could go back and forth. Comparing the quality of the two there is no way to compare something. You were nostalgic for as a child with something that is trying to duplicate that magic but that is a marvelous piece of educational programming. That is still entertaining. And that is right up there with stuff like Mister Rogers neighborhood and sesame street and all sorts of wonderful stuff that you can find on PBS kids. Electric Company is just a gorgeous piece of that puzzle. And I don't think it gets as much recognition as it should get especially compared to some of those other classic pieces of programming love it. Excellent Pack Loved Electric Company Berry. What is your first recommendation? We in our family when my oldest was younger and I was pregnant with my second son. It was really imperative for me to be sitting down lying down pretending that I didn't have a child for like two or three hours a day but I also had already watched so much Daniel Tiger which is wonderful and other. Pbs Kids thing. That probably taught me a lot about parenting but I wanted something that I also really liked from the creators of Wallace and GROMIT. Shaun the sheep which I have so many I mean I literally have photographs of both my husband and my then three year old watching. Shaun the sheep and both laughing at exactly the same amount because it is genuinely funny. It is the first thing that I think our family all liked the same amount where we really all were engaged in it in the same way. I you know you're not pretending to love you know Mom Tiger or whatever you're not pretending to be like Mom Tiger. I'm really actually mom. Tigers really haunted me over the years but I will say that Shaun. The sheep is both adorable in terms of its slapsticky laps. But it also looks gorgeous. So if you're not familiar with Wallace and gromit they created these these beautiful claymation sort of handmade aesthetic from our animations and Wallace and gromit. I also highly recommend but it's more of a sophisticated storyline. What's Great About Shaun? The sheep is that they are sort of snack. -able basically it is a brilliant sheep named Sean and the adventures of him and his farmer and his friends and it is genuinely funny. They're all of these little references. That are incredibly sophisticated without going over the head of your little ones. There's a kind of buster Keaton ask quality to it and I can watch them all the time. I really truly do not get sick of Shaun the sheep and my kids who are now as we said six nine still really love them. It's about that and maybe the British bake off are the only things that the entire family can agree on. If you've missed out on it please go back and watch it and you may find yourself watching it even without your children and where we find it. You can find it in a myriad of places. It is on Amazon prime. It is on Netflix. The Shaun the sheep extended universe of both movies and also the Wallace and gromit from the same animation studio are in many streaming places so if you just search Shaun the sheep you will find a gorgeous claymation that will make you. Giggle is a great pick and man. My kids now are nine thousand nine hundred sixteen and at no point in their lives. Has there been more than like a small handful of things that everyone in the family can enjoy at the same level at the exact same time so when you find one of those the love that you experience as a parent for that piece of entertainment is intense. I feel you on this one in a big way. Very very nice excellent. Pick Berry Hartman Steven. You'RE GONNA give us your second pick and This is not surprise. Me Buddy well. This one is specific to one of my kids particularly my older kid my son. Jona when he was little he obsessed over a cartoon that I watched as a kid called the wacky races and the wacky races were a very short lived. Hanna barbera cartoon aired in late. Nineteen sixty eight and a little bit in early sixty nine and then has kind of lived on in reruns. There's a DVD set that has like the complete collection of the wacky races. Hanna barbera cartoons are pretty primitive. You're talking about children's TV in the late sixties. You have some kind of squeaky gender stuff. There's like one female racer penelope pitstop. Who's like more concerned with her makeup than with racing? It has that name is amazing. Insert pitstop into my middle name. Very pitstop hardiman stuff hardiman The thing is though there's something about the way. This particular cartoon was structured where each episode of the show all of these goofy characters. They were the same characters. The plot couldn't be simpler. They're racing and at the end of each episode. One of the racers wins. There's a bad guy racer named Dick Dastardly. And his side kick Mutley. Who has that famous? Little wheezy laugh and my son who was obsessed with numbers kind of obsessed a certain amount of scorekeeping managed to latch into it. Not only as a piece of like fun cartoony entertainment but kind of latched onto it as like a statistician almost and really got obsessed with it. Even though there were only seventeen episodes he just watched them over and over and over again. Now the wacky races have existed in a couple of different forms. There's a wacky racist game for the we. The kids also played. This is also like electric company is one that got rebooted and it got rebooted a few years ago and once again if you're obsessed with the nineteen sixty eight version you're gonNA watch the version from twenty seventeen or two thousand eighteen and roll your eyes because it's not the exact entertainment that you grew up with but you look at the voice cast on this rebooted wacky races. It's Tom Kenny WHO's TV. Spongebob Jill Talley who's also voiced from. Spongebob she's also from Mister. Show like Tom. Kenny and Billy West. Who was stimpy. He was fry in Futurama. You have some really lovable voice. Cast working with this show. So lucky races isn't necessarily the top of very many people's list as far as like high quality children's programming but it was really important in my house and really had this nice kind of cross generational appeal where I got to feel nostalgia watching it and my kids hooked into it in ways that even I never did
Lightning Labs Beta Tests Its First Paid Product: Lightning Loop
"Is lightning loop. Yes sure so. Lightning loop is a product that we had lightning lobster developed to make it more efficient to send receive bitcoin on the leading network and the nature of lightning is such that you have amazing speed amazing skill ability and very low fees but there there is a requirement of liquidity. And what that means is if you want to receive funds on lightning you need what we call inbound liquidity to do so and this is more obvious to the average individual but if you WanNa send funds you need funds on the side that you're going to sentence you need the ability to save money in your account as lighting Luke does is it helps people relocate their funds in the network so for example if a lot of people have sent me funds on lightning already and I no longer have that inbound capacity liquidity as we call it I then can no longer keep perceiving those funds so lighting could actually help people by moving their funds from lightning back to the bitcoin. Blockchain Nagas Odio manner so they could keep receiving and and then similarly If you want to send funds online and you can actually refill your channel. Think of it as refilling an account using lightning by swapping funds from the Bitcoin blockchain onto to lightning So in analogy. I sometimes use Luke. Inas be calling you refill. Your channel is kind of like Refilling your prepaid debit card or a couch loop out is a little bit harder. Because we don't usually have that concept but if you had a cash full of cash and you actually did take cash out and then you can continue to receive money in that register. Not so that works. So Relating Louisville product we already had it in Alpha had quite a lot of startups involved Some great folks like fold have been users of it and it's helping. Their businesses is helping them. More effectively center received funds enlightening. And we've gotten a lot of good feedback so far and we announced the Beta with increase limits for people to be able to move their funds in and out of lightening from the decline `Blanche blockchain and would have the limit spin. And what are they now so lightning that were generally today has a limit of around fifteen hundred. US dollars per channel so channels are kind of like accounts on the network people open multiple channels between two participants. Anouk there's also a transaction action limit Which is point zero four to BTC? So it's about three hundred three fifty dollars. Depending upon the Bitcoin of the day loop originally was capped. Ah previously at half. That's about one fifty now. It's up to around three hundred three fifty and that will stay in place while the cats are present on the lightning network more broadly. But there's something called one Bo kind of like jumbo. W that is derived from spongebob. And crash relying co-founder lawlor spongebob. I just missed the whole. Spongebob thing but he's really is about larger channel sizes on lining doing so today. We soldiers limits in place chose to do so for safety and security reasons but with one Bo it will be opt in larger channel sizes so the good news is somebody will unintentionally opening massive channel and not realize what they're doing but if they choose to do so they'll be able to opt in and put more capital until lightning in these channels So with one Bo in the broader network will also increase Luke capacities as well as you mentioned you know the limits so far have been pretty small. Aw but you did talk about some of the companies that are building on them. So what are the typical applications that companies are using lightning for now. Yeah so we've seen this the whole host of startups emerge which has been really incredible Less than two years ago at Lightning Labsi release the Beta version of our implementation of lightning network. There are numerous implementations implementation's there's US you lightning from extreme. There's a clear from a sink so we built ours. We release his Beta. And since then we've seen a whole new crop of startups emerge. I didn't even exist prior to this. Many of them are focused on lightning. I so there are a few categories of these One that I know our head of Operations Desert dickerson loves a UH the rise of the lightning gaming startup so quite a few video game companies have emerged. There's ZD Donner lab. SUSHI's games where they're integrating lightning payments into their video games. So I think that's a really Case we've seen a lightning payment startups where you can buy things with lightning. So we have full bit refill. Fill open node. Helping people is a payment processor. There's not pay where merchants can integrate bitcoin lightning and run their own when sulfur in order to do so. So there's the ability to pay with lightning. There's Latin pizza which is a cool project from fold where you can order pizza with lightning And in some cases as you get back as well then we have the earning with lightning companies. There's a great one called stock. I mean who doesn't want more bitcoin. I won't Bitcoin. The people think of lightning people spending bitcoin. But there's actually huge potential people. Earning Bitcoin as well so stock is a really great start up just on the founder last night where people can complete these tasks if you know Amazon Mechanical Turk and they earn Sushi's on lightning because think about it this way if you wanted to pay people around the world's talk radio different countries to do small tasks and you wanted to do it with you know in the Fiat system. Good luck you know. That's just not going to be possible. So stock is a great way to complete tasks do this micro work and earn on With lightning and then dirk companies like tip in and a variety of products where you can actually two people apple and again earn people can actually make money with lightning a noisy the rise of a lightning financial startup. And they're quite view these as well river financial toll for example and disclosure personally in my personal capacity and adviser they are they integrated. Led lighting where you can deposit and withdraw and you can buy Bitcoin coin with dollars and drugs and lightning or you can deposit and then tell for USD we have which is building a lightning native eight of API We have sparks. which is doing trading zapped which is doing OTC You can transact between USD and lightning A host of those in the way of the wallets under great wines like Breeze Moon Zappa also working at a wallet. There's Lula while Toshi so there's really been just as shoot ecosystem that has emerged in less than two years and This fall we co organize a lightning conference we had I five hundred developers enthusiasts community members in Berlin people came from all around the world every continent and it was incredible to see that in person. It's an to release the ABI tangible and enter this world of lightning where everyone was buying. There was a lightning beer tackling cocktail by. You could buy ice cream hot chocolate. Let all sorts of interesting things would lightning. You could play video games as lightning. There's a letting scooter tesla coil. Where when you painted at actually sparked like ooh yesterday I actually live on Yahoo Finance livestream? Our head of operations said the chickens. Paul you feed this community is their real business. Being built in town moved but there are also these crazy used cases. You're like wait if I if I've got a a few years ago that the technical building was gonNA help us chickens like it happened
"spongebob" Discussed on #WhoWouldWin
"No matter sooner the butterfly catching and blowing sub soap bubbles into elaborate shapes. Okay this sounds like a perfect opponent for being what a Batman Villains by excited absolutely. But don't let spongebob as a parent chat legs for like fool you underneath that smiling facade beat the heart of a noble hero. Someone who's a true friend and end according to my research some who quite possibly is one of the most powerful characters in all of animation. Ray You're shaking your head but you know I go there with my research. Oh I know we're GONNA try some nonsense but I'm here to slap it down fair enough by the way when I say most powerful Characters nanometer I'm also including Japanese anime. Believe it or not ray I I believe it but you're not right we'll see and here's an interesting fact about spongebob. Did you know spongebob. dimwitted best friend Patrick. The starfish was initially conceived as an angry bar. Owner is true a starfish character. I enter the picture while Hillenbrand and Chiming we're storyboarding the pilot but before there was lovable but dim witted Patrick Star the starfish and the pilot the first actual actual story had patrick as a character. The huge chip on his shoulder because he was paying was Tori bully and owned a roadside bar. which if you think about it is a perfect character actor for Nickelodeon kids show? I wish I would have gone with. I'm I'm kind of wondering how things but maybe they can. You like an alternate reality show. Who knows all right now? You have the facts and both opponents Allie. Do you have any questions before we get started. Now let's do this. This is exciting. You're not questioning your agent right now. You're not saying I already did that when I walked in Pastis. Because we're just here we're in it and I'm like all right. Let's bring it on your investment point number one point number one for Bain. Let's just talk a little bit about who this character is because when you really break it down we have one character. WHO's this super strong? Super Intelligent hopped up on Venom. Bruiser and we have a sponge who lives at the bottom of the ocean. So I- test alone. I should win this in a romp. So let's just talk about who bane I mean is this person and let's start laying the groundwork here so first off Bain was born in prison. His father was a revolutionary warrior in a south. American country named Santa PRISCO fictional. I'm assuming I don't know my geography so well but I'm assuming it's fictional is and he escaped the law but his mother got captured while while she was pregnant and then was forced to have her baby in prison so bane was forced to basically take on his father sentence from birth so despite being in solitary confinement that a very young age I wanna say somewhere along the lines of like five six years old. He was put in general population with all of the murderers and terrible people that you would normally find in that type of prison. Bane did fine. He actually survived. He was on his first day by a really bad guy but he he had people around him. The the aforementioned truck and bird were there to help him in Zombie. The three of them were able to kind of help him get along and knock it. Crushed in prison. Bain turned around and showed that he wasn't. I'm just an ordinary kid. He was someone who could thrive in that type of a prison violence environment to the point. Where when he was eight years old he went back into the first guy who tried to mess with him on his first first day in general population and at the age of eight he murdered that man with a shift? A huge hulking brute of a man Bain was just a mere eight year old kid so this this is a murderer. This person who had an early age was brought up in a very very difficult environment and a very very violent area and he did just find. Spongebob lives in a pineapple at the bottom of the sea. So when it comes to we'll just saying going for it. I have to imagine. Bane has no qualms qualms about hurting. Spongebob who knows what Spongebob is doing. I'm sure James will tell us in just a little bit sort of move a little bit further. He's not just a raw power though he's he's not just a big strong guy. Even though that's how he appears with the Ludar Baskin the singlet and the big muscles he actually has a genius. Level intellect to the point where Super Batman Villain Razzano Ghul said. It's the greatest mind that he's ever equal to the greatest mind he's ever known which means that Guy Raza goals a character someone who's lived for hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of years keeps himself alive through his use of the Lazarus pit. He's lived a really long time. And he says Bain is equal to the smartest people. He's ever known he's known Batman he's known all these DC characters superhero characters all these genius intellects through his time in the shadow. Shadows of the World Bane is the smartest guy he's ever known which means when it comes down to not just just fighting but tactics and the ability to figure things out because no doubt no doubt at all. Spongebob is going to be bringing some weird stuff to the table. I have no doubt about that. James is going to bring doing this. I don't know how but he's going to do it. He's GonNa find a way. Beim is ready for dealing with that kind of a thing. The one thing. I'd like to mention right. Here is Bain essentially. He's not necessarily only a trained fighter per se because he was imprisoned he did get some training from the prisoners there however the thing that he did himself was. He taught himself his own form of meditation. which is I think very very important because it shows a mental acuity mental strength? Involved that he could take the roughest situation possible. He was put in solitary confinement in a flooded flooding jail cell that every single night filled up up with water with no food. Nothing at all and he was able to survive for an extended period of time. Just in that environment you think the Strip show was rough. This is maybe one one step further than that no. I don't want to do that show when he ate. The fish came in from the ocean flooding the chamber. He was able to drink into water. He was able to survive. He was able to stay strong and he did it through his use of meditation so when Spongebob Does Weird stuff. It's nothing that's going to throw pain. It's nothing that's going to make him loses mind. He's mentally focused. He's mentally trained. He beat Raja Ghulam. Chess wants not a bad deal. Smart Guy so outside of the strength Frank I just want to say he's a mean guy from a mean place and he's a genius and he's got spongebob squarepants right site. He will tear him limb from limb. And that is my point number one. Okay so I get it. Prison life is hard. I went through something similar Ali growing up. To what being did you know. Are you familiar with Hebrew school. Yes same thing as what ray describe the flooded room. Well you know I had to do some crazy stuff. Mrs. Dingell bomb when she was serving like apples and honey for soup that was not A. I'd rather have fish floating with a flooded cell but anyway so I understand the craziness that being has to had to put up with. I'm actually going to add. Said something to your point out. Bane is also one of the best fighters in DC comics. He actually trained himself in martial arts. He created new martial arts styles while in prison. I mean th I love this character and I'm really sad I'm going to have to have them lose. Spongebob squarepants to what you know. But let me say. He's a lot like Bruce Lee in that regard. The thing that I really wanted to stay away from there is to talk about the training because there's an old adage and wrestling. Is that if you train yourself. You didn't train. And so as much as I know he created his own martial arts style all I did want to kind of shy away from it because if you teach yourself how to fight you have nothing is a teacher that because you came from the wrestling world that is correct. Okay Okay because ray thought. He taught himself how to fight quickly. Figured out with actual wrestlers and I found out training. Actually that is. He's a great point. Okay I don't have much to rebut on that alley any questions or thoughts on on thoughts. UNREAS- point number one. Now I mean I I it was just like okay. He's mean he's he's I have to say the whole meditation thing kind of got me like that. was that was very interesting because I personally meditate and I see the power with that and I feel like a lot of people we're getting more intimate nowadays and I'm like wow okay. Kinda makes sense why he did survive so much of his situation regardless it came out pretty mean and terrible the ball but he he does have meditation going for him. Quick Question wended meditation. Churn into the term mindfulness meditation in La. Okay that's everything. Mindfulness polite I think like it because meditation became a trending thing like you know me being obviously starting celebrity wardrobe stylists and worked in fashion. Like everything's trending and I think people like once they kind of get sick of trend. It's like well. How do we keep this around but make it sound like fresh? New and exciting. Exciting's was like mindfulness. Same frigging thing. I'm glad you said that it's sort of like when people tell nobody ever says the term going viral anymore right that everybody goes. Oh you don't know what you're doing it's the same kind of thing. Exactly changing the verbiage said do I still go on the web. Right go online. Are you talking about the person was raped by. Let me get to my point. The Internet James. Yes that's we all. Do I let point number one now. This is where I kinda go and do a deep dive on Spongebob. I discovered that spongebob. Maybe one of the most powerful characters and all animation ray is shaking his head and disagreement already. But let let me explain why now throughout the series. Spongebob has demonstrated some crazy abilities powers and has even demonstrated some magical talents as well after watching a lot. A lot of episodes of spongebob. Both you know with my kids and sometimes even just without them because I like watching your parent. I totally did drug free by away but spongebob helps me kind of go there sure no. Spongebob has super strength. He was able to lift objects much larger than him including large humans. He's he's got super speed. A spongebob was able to move from one area Bikini bottom to another in less than a second less than a second raid that put them in flash class in terms of speed. He's got super for healing and regeneration. 'cause you know sponsor has been flattened stepped on frozen run over Sarah Fire ripped to pieces taking saint falls from great heights been explosions and within less than the second. He's absolutely fine and back and looking normal absolutely that mean fashion than deadpool's healing factor race to Kansas. He can shape shift and take on the parents of other objects and characters when he B.. He can teleport as seen in the episode called zones research. I do I know I see you. Guys are like dedicated. It's some people say it's a good the things we all have our vices right so he can teleport as seeing the episode called the wreck of of the Mouna Mona Lonzo. Spongebob was chasing Patrick in a game of Tag Patrick was looking back at Spongebob in the other direction when he imminently bumped into spongebob. Who's all of a sudden in front of them? That's teleportation ry right then and there also has superintendents as evidenced by the many times. He seemed doing something or other. And then we hear the caption. You know that that Frenchaccent three days later you know. And he's still doing it but it gets better. Yeah you're like in the so far biting his history..

Super Bowl Ads 2019: Stunts, Self-Deprecation And Celebrity Sightings
"Support for this podcast and the following message. Come from Comcast business having the nation's largest gig speed network was just the start. Now, they're providing gig fueled apps and solutions that exceed expectations and help businesses perform Comcast business beyond fast. Some Super Bowls are thrilling and summer like last night when the New England Patriots beat the Los Angeles Rams and the lowest scoring Super Bowl game in history. Of course, the game is only part of the spectacle, where the halftime show and the commercials anymore. Exciting. We have a tweet review here from one Rachel Martin of NPR news who writes, you wrote Rachel well that was horrible. Don't think you didn't love it very much NPR. Tv critic Eric Duggan's has his judgment the most unexpected moment in the Super Bowl. Halftime show. Didn't come from headliner. Maroon five or guest Travis Scott, it came courtesy of characters from the cartoon SpongeBob squarepants who introduced Scott's part of the performance. Musical genius who needs no introduction. The cartoon clip was a shoutout to sweet victory. Assam spongebob. Squarepants once played on an episode that parody the Super Bowl was a hip surprise. And a halftime show that also included appearances from Outkast member big BOI and a gospel choir. Maroon five frontman, Adam LeVine, stripped off, coats and shirt until he was bare-chested showing off his tattoos while singing one of the group's biggest hits moves like Jagger. Gives me. Show. It was professional mildly. Exciting the kind of ineffective Super Bowl halftime show that the NFL might have been hoping for after its controversies over players kneeling to protest police brutality. But it was also kind of boring like most of the Super Bowl commercials press to avoid social media backlash. Many of the ads in Sunday's game were not edgy groundbreaking or even all that funny. Consider one but lights commercials which featured medieval characters from last year's but light Super Bowl ads preparing to watch a joust a beautiful day for a date. Date things out lucky. Loincloth cold Bud Light comfy thrown I don't have the plague anymore when they're but night is killed by a character from game of thrones called the mountain then a dragon sets fire to the jousting arena. And the whole thing turns into a game of thrones commercial. I'm not quite sure how scenes of carnage and fire cells cans of Bud Light. Maybe it makes you thirsting Harrison Ford fared better in an ad that showed fictional failed products, featuring Amazon, Alexa, including dot collar. Ordering dog the Barco you'll want. I'm not paying for England dog food ordering gravy yet. There is nothing funnier than watching Indiana Jones chases small dog around his house, Pepsi earn some multigenerational cool points by having chance the rapper remix. The backstreet boys hit I want it that way. And the Washington Post scored with a serious ad ended reinforcing the value of journalists and journalism as images of reporters like slain columnists, Jamal kashogi appeared on screen. Tom Hanks provided a reassuring narration when our nation is threatened. There's someone to gather the facts. To bring you the story. No matter the cost knowing keeps us free. Now, I might be a bit biased. But seeing some of the most expensive real estate in television used to remind America that journalism is a key to democracy seemed like the best use of a Super Bowl ad that I've seen in quite a while Americans.
"spongebob" Discussed on MyTalk 107.1
"Of course, squint word. Have a band. Okay. Ever had one. So he decides he's going to go to all the little bikini bottom people, and he's going to recruit them to be in his orchestra. Okay. Well that goes horribly horribly wrong. Oh, no, absolutely. A disaster. They all get picked up by a roller and. But the rehearsals completely fall apart. Everybody's mad at everybody else in the thing is just a disaster. But SpongeBob who always has a positive attitude refuses to give up and he brings everybody together. And they get to the bubble bowl Squidward sees them. They're getting ready to play. And of course, he turns away thinking, oh, my Lord scream is going to find out. This is a huge disaster. They're gonna sound absolutely atrociously bad. That is not how it turns out the band pulled it together. And with SpongeBob help they give the performance of a lifetime. Particularly with SpongeBob on lead vocals on the song sweet victory. So Squidward is saved. Okay. But how do we get from there to maroon five then? Well, there's no direct line. But then you then you get Patrick ruining actually a pretty good end seen which is like Amoretti depression to me. It's funny line. But then to have him come in with SpongeBob in between his butt cheeks flying in on his shorts. It's like I get that. It's for children. I I had to tell Martin this on Sunday right back to Sundays. I mean, we we all do we're all constantly referencing SpongeBob. And it's interesting too. Because we talk about nostalgia that when you see things through the the eyes of your childhood that maybe you overrate them. But I think SpongeBob got better gonna stack on exactly what to say. It's a lot more funnier. I get more of the jokes humor resonates more than when I was like eleven it's. Yeah. As a kid you wash it because you are dumb kid watching it shell. And when all the people are finally gone and he comes with the bulldozer. It's much. Like you used me? For land development. Those are jokes as a kid that go right over your head. But a lot of adult themes to. Yeah. It had a wide diversity of fans because kids just watching it because they were stupid and just cartoons than adults. Like when we went back and watched it, we got the jokes. Yeah. Yeah. Time a lot of adults liked it too. Of course, people are going to say, oh, this is a stupid kid show. "Welcome. Thank you for having me. So exciting to have you here. So let's start from the beginning of your SpongeBob journey. Yes. They're fine. With me where you were. And what you were doing when you received the information that you had an audition for SpongeBob squarepants. I was I remember very clearly I was in my friends dorm room at Vassar college. I was yeah. Go Basser brewers. I don't know if you remember that was our mascot, and I was sitting on a beanbag chair in the dorm room, and like across from me was my friends poster of all the faces that SpongeBob makes all those whacky faces. And then he had a plush SpongeBob doll kid that lived on that being back chair. So I was like sitting next to it. And I got a phone call. And it was this casting director who had just seen me addition for Romeo and Juliet really randomly as part of an apprenticeship that I wanted to work out for the. Summer, and they said we have this edition for you can't tell you what it is technically. It's the untitled Tina Landau project, but we think you might be the right shape for it. Yeah. That hurt hurt a little bit. But I've gotten over it. But you didn't know what they were talking about. You know, the name is Chipper chip. And just we're going to send you a follow up Email. So I went back into the dorm guys. I got this dish in how cool is going to be like there's this little picture in the Email of SpongeBob doing the hands. I like looked at the doll. And I looked at the poster, and I looked at my friends, and I was like, oh, chip or chip is SpongeBob. That is a crazy coincidence. It was it was really wild. You go to the audition. And you decide you're not going to do a SpongeBob impression very distinctive high pitched kind of giggly voice. The not going to do that. You're just going to use your own voice. Right. Yeah. That was like both a conscious decision. Yes. An artist. And also a choice that I made out of fear and eight hours of preparation time. I had never tried to do a SpongeBob impression. I had a lot of friends who were great at doing the laugh. Yeah. And that was not me. So I stayed up, you know, working on my physical comedy routine until four in the morning on the quad. And I just sort of like did the whole thing like this just like Ethan, but like a little bit more excited. And and the addition went pretty well. But as I remember it Tina Landau, the director at the end was like, great job awesome, come back in and do the voice, it's pretty important. Cool. Cocoa cocoa. Yes. You're studying advanced or you're sitting drama. You got this apprenticeship for Romeo and Juliet did you not? Yeah. I was actually cast in the show. In addition to the apprenticeship, which was huge for me. It was like going to be my first professional gig, and I had to drop out because of a conflict with with SpongeBob. Which was like a surprisingly difficult decision to make. And they were like, well, you've got two weeks of this workshop or a full production of Shakespeare, and I was like, well I've been doing plays, and I really love. Shakespeare, I've been doing to Shakespeare show since I was a little kid in DC. And so that that was something that always wanted to do and I talked to my professor at the time. And he said Shakespeare will always be there. But if you pass up the opportunity to work with Tina Landau, you're gonna regret it. So I think Tina for being the reason that I chose the obvious bath. I love those. Shakespeare is always going to be there. But SpongeBob is here right now right now. Right. This moment. So this show is incredibly physical. I mean, you are doing gymnastics jumping in the air for what seems like over half of that show. I mean, it's intense..
