"That's where cops filmed demand in two thousand seventeen overdosing a mix of death and heroin who met in a previous episode. Diva. The we know what you take me to help you. And about ten miles to the east that same year just before Christmas cameras captured this. Live PD season two episode twenty one we're live in Spokane valley Washington where moments ago officers responded to a report of a domestic dispute, it's knowing there's maybe six inches on the ground already fluffy and what perfect for a snowball fight, excuse me. She's drunk Spokane sheriff's deputy is responding to a disturbance the more you sit on the floor crime. Okay. So yours are just drunk and obnoxious. All right. They find a woman in her late thirties sitting on the floor of what looks like a trailer behind a regular house. She is drunk drunk drunk and apoplectic. Shoes walkout for coming out of this nice gentlemen's trailer. So he can enjoy his evening. They don't explain where or why they're even moving her. They don't wait for shoes. They dragged through the snow inner pink socks. They run a check on her name and a warrant comes up a failure to appear. You gotta sell any warm for possession of stolen property k. Come on walk. They cover in the snow in her sex. You can see her breath. Sure. To what he was. I really. Good. The officer arrests her and her boyfriend. He's got a warrant to any puts them both in the same card and host Dan Abrahams gives this commentary at the end of it seems those who still together stay together and they're together. Now in the back seat of that car both with outstanding warrants. In. That's it. We don't see her again in the show. Let's go to Richland County in South Carolina. Kind of might get like it's like meeting of interrogative, you know, not by police officers. Remember at this time. Her name is Amy my appreciate Henry, and I met her at her parents home in Spokane valley on a street that dead ends at the Spokane river acquired her part before it starts to fall an old Jeep is in the driveway. Amy doesn't ask us in? We sit and talk on a couple of lawn chairs in the front yard still patched with melting snow. Do you remember at all? Just bits and pieces. She talks at her plaid flannel shirt against the chill that afternoon. I remember having a drink and drinker, obviously. And I have no recollection after this just Cup of alcohol. Do you? Remember the cop show? No, literally do not fucking clue. Do you? Remember, do you? Remember, the cops picking you up and helping you out of that house. Do you remember walking through this noon? Remember them. Reading me my rights. Cameras. I have no recollection of that whole timeframe gentlemen. Don't even remember the cameras. I didn't start actually really remembering things until I was in booking. I woke up in booking, and I guess I had a mask on my face and a mask on my face because it was spitting. And it was just really embarrassing. No. Can I ask you? I mean is that something that happens have you blacked out before? Often. You know, the answer if you don't want to. Probably like the four-time I blocked out on the police around. Question. How does someone that drunk blackout drunk consent to be on live PD of live television show the answer? They don't sit. Did you did you consent? No. Obviously, not did they talk to you about the fact that you're on television that. Yeah. No. So this is the first thing we figure out where's cops says they get permission from everyone who appears on the show, although we saw how that pans out in real life. Live PD does not live PD in a wouldn't answer any questions about their show. But from what we can gather from the handful of times, they have talked to the press their argument is that because they are live. It's more akin to news, not entertainment. And so they say they don't need permission. You're on the show whether you like it or not asked the cops actually was in jail..

"Seven three and the Online Trading Academy text line, provided you know, the name the show. Are you be able to recognize the name get it wrong? So frequently because we don't care whose name is. I so we get it wrong constantly. It's one of those things where we're both. It's sort of like you've been to an intersection in Seattle where both people stop and no one's willing to actually drive. That's us in the show. Everyone know your neighbors. Don't know you go, and that's been our problem. And it's going to be a problem for a while. Okay. Can you explain this the hairstylist Bill, which is what everyone is calling it? But I don't think I even understood it when we started really getting down into the details of it. Yeah. So this is a Bill. This is a situation that led to a Bill that led to a new Bill that's led to another situation. And that's actually if you wanna learn more about it. You're going to be hearing a lot about this on Monday. When a whole bunch of people are gonna show up in Olympia to discuss this. But let me just set up set the story up. So it right now in Washington state. You've got rather it times rather vaguely written standards about independent contractors, and what they can and can't do in this sort of the. Backdrop to the hair cutting business and in barber shops and beauty salons freak. You have to sort of either there are more than this. But let's just say to Broadway's of doing business one. You have a staff you're paying all the regular taxes employment taxes things like that on your staff. Your staff makes a commission on their haircuts. That's one model the other model that has grown up is the you rent a chair, the the somebody owns the place, and they are and you pay a fee to for your chair for the utilities for the things you do that person is in fact, not required to pay all of the employment taxes and fees associated with your job. This has created a schism or a fight between the folks who feel like they're doing all the right things and paying the taxes. And the folks if you're like, hey, these are just independent contractors. I'm not obligated to any of this stuff. In fact, they are the contractor. They're just renting a space from me. And the problem between the two is that you've got radically different economic models associated with both the other problem that's been associated to. Degree with the independent contractors is that things that that when when there's a cash transaction, for example, that's not running through an overall business that is not actually being recorded at all. And so you've got a real fight on your hands at my stylist. Right. And and you and it's not even a tip. I mean, like if you were to pay for your, for example, what people have said. Haircuts because that'll be embarrassing for everyone involved, especially me or mine for that matter and. But it was a lot of cost to get this. So and it's probably cost stuff. Personally, social interactions and things like that. Yeah. I actually hadn't calculated my income as a result of this. Light. So I guess we can but to get back to the point. Let's get to the point. So you're having situations where the allegation has been that. And I'm not casting aspersions on any independent contractor. But that what happens is you get paid in cash for the for the actual haircut. Maybe you get tips on top of that suddenly that disappears from the calendar. And there's no real way of tracking that money when it goes through the more official setup that money is tracked all the way through everyone gets taxed, which obviously no one is excited about, but that means everything's happening sort of an affair and even playing field and your haircutters there are making commissions that can range up to sixty five percent, if they're person with a big client list, and they bring in a lot of business. It depends on sort of. It's a seniority system in quality system, blah, blah, blah. And so this fight. There was a legislation put forth to make it illegal to rant. And then that legislation was withdrawn. And now we're in the middle of a mess that that really does come back down to one thing. If you talk to everyone on the side of this is that the contractor laws. Are pretty vague. I mean, they seem to indicate that renting a chair should probably be illegal because you're not supposed to as a contract to be doing a job that's intrinsic to the business structure. The contractors is supposed to be something outside of that. It's a mess, and I'm not certain that the legislation that's going to be in Olympia on Monday is going to actually solve this mess. So if they come back, and they say, all right? You can't be a contractor Renna chair from a bigger salon. Wouldn't is the hairstyle said no cages come over to my house. I'll do your hair there. Well, there's that. But that's that's something. That's a little tougher to stop. Right. I mean, and also, but after house you need a fair bit of equipment to do this. I mean, especially if you're doing any sort of color, if you're doing things that well, I'm not saying that I've done that under the table and Ghana people's. Yeah. But I have well, that's that's probably true. But that's get that gets a little bit into allow they're supposed to be declaring that that's supposed to be declaring that is income. That's not really what the fight here is more between the salons that sort of the legacy salons that actually have staff that pay for staff pay all the taxes associated with staff have them on an. An actual wage and these the pop up the pop-up rent a spot places that are doing effectively the same business, but are not paying the taxes associated with that business. The assumption is that there are people are then paying those taxes. But the allegation is that that's not always happening. So what do the workers one? What are the what is the stylist one? Well, I. Stylist you want as many options as possible you want to work for a place that actually maybe pays your weight. But if you build up a big client list, why not bounce to some other place where maybe you can lower your your tax rate or or maybe not even though your tax rate increase, your increased your independent income because you're the one now responsible for tracking how much money you're making tracking who pays what paying those taxes to the state. You know, do people do people recalculate when they do that kind of stuff. I don't know I'm guessing that some people would be to from the two of six just got WalMart three ninety nine clippers five years ago. My haircuts pretty cheap. Now, that's not quite what we're talking about. But I always say I did the same thing when when I decided to go with the buzz cut that I have now effectively. I described my haircuts as it's like mowing the lawn. It's not really really there's no real. Yeah. That's not really a whole lot going on there. But I actually did do the bought a nice pair professional clippers paid for themselves in about a month. And I have the same pair for the last seven years. Are we going to talk about the other Bill going towards Olympia about the dwarf tossing? And this is this is the one far more serious. So we've got another one that's going to ban. There has been and I'm not sure how this or why this to come back. But apparently there is now a a resurgence of the dwarf tossing competitions that used to end up in nineteen eighties movies and sometimes in bars back, then I'm so happy. You said that because I thought I was the only one that looked at that said man that is so twenty years ago. Yes. For kids. This is not a new idea, you're borrowing from our own bad ideas. I did see. So this is from a Republican from Spokane valley, and he used the one that is promoting this Senate Bill would ban contests like dwarf tossing and it's mostly because hey, it's an activity where somebody could get injured at the end and somebody has to be a dwarf for you to advertise tossing. So it really is not great because somebody could really get hurt. Even if they are an active willing participant. That's that's not the point. The point is though as soon as I saw Spokane Valley, I was like, oh and sure enough it came from an October strip club in the city of Spokane valley held this event October October two thousand eight two thousand eighteen two thousand eighteen when this actually came out so Spokane valley might be a little bit behind the times. Well, yeah. Perhaps or perhaps there is a greater interest in that sort of thing there. But what I'm saying is if your training for this either as a toss or posse, I would suggest that maybe. Do you need to reroute some way because it.

"To time he's he's grown man now he's he's not working the drive through with the spokane valley dairy queen anymore the third son was and is severely disabled can't speak can't walk severely physically deformed sits in a specialized motorized wheelchair of sorts has to have someone else move the chair around for him not sure how where he is of surrounding didn't seem when i would be over there to be aware at all can't control his bodily functions can't really do anything at all for himself can't communicate on almost any level his his mother angel human being went back to school got a nursing degree specific to nursing his type of disability can't remember the syndrome or whatever conditioning you know you had i remember it was rare but but she did that so she can become a fulltime nurse and that's what she was now she she didn't seem to be able to spend much time with other two kids because her fulltime seven days a week around the clock job was taking care of the one one child and that would be her job until either he died or she died and you could think well yeah yes she's as mom that's what that's what you do that's what he's supposed to do but would you do that would you throw away any chance at a career when you throw away the ability to ever be present for anyone other than his one person in any type of consistent fashion in order to constantly take care of this person for the rest of their life or the rest of yours some person who may not even be able to cognitively understand that your their parent think about how that would change your life you know what if that would have that became your life until you died of old age could you do it you know if you if you you know if you couldn't should the state be responsible for taking care of that human being if so are you willing to pay more taxes to have that being option are you willing to advocate the more of your taxes should be allotted for that type of care so that is an option you know and if that becomes the case then what gets less funding because asking him more it's a fucking tough issue now that's why i didn't come you know i think to a very judgy place against the people at penn hearst you know it's like what are we supposed to do is this society with with with the members who can't take care of themselves is this issue solvable is it is it unsolvable on some level you know what do we do we well we you know we start with treating mentally handicapped with and people with intellectual disability with dignity and respect we don't we don't take advantage of them we can check on them you can try to make sure that others aren't taking advantage of them and i guess we can vote for politicians who we believe are going to pass more reforms and gonna or going to a lot more money to their care and just agree that you know we're gonna we're gonna have to pay for it because they can't pay for themselves i dunno curious what you're gonna write in about this one i really am and and that's kind of just be continuing to babble if i go beyond that so let's get the top five takeaways away number one thousand nine hundred sixty eight local philadelphia reported bill dany did a five part investigative expose on hers called suffer the little children and he lit the fire on a national discussion about how to care for the intellectually disabled burns to this day number two penn hers designed to.
