"In the market, but you're not seeing it turn the S &P or even the socks in the way you want it. In fact, you're seeing just the opposite. Now, this could just be a one day move, right? But let's see what this one day means for investors as they think about their AI bets moving forward. Right. Or it could be a resumption of the previous three weeks in which there was a lot of weakness for the big winners, notably the big tech names. And of course, as we head into a seasonally weak period, there's a lot of questions about whether this is just kind of a precursor of what's to come. There you have the closing bells and it is read across the screen here. And we're pretty much at session lows for the major indexes. The S &P losing ground here by one point four percent. The Dow Industrial is losing one point one percent. The Nasdaq, the big loser of the day in terms of percentage of decline, one point nine percent loss. And the Russell 2000 small cap companies losing about one and a quarter percent. All right. Well, let's get a check on some of that. We're into it is doing in the after hours right now, having a little trouble pulling it up. But it is a reminder that earnings season is by no means over at this point. Guys, we're still getting plenty of companies reporting, including Splunk yesterday and into it right now. The company is saying that it sees fourth quarter adjusted earnings per share of a dollar sixty five, beating estimates of a dollar forty six. The company is seeing first quarter adjusted EPS of one dollar ninety four cents to two dollars. So that's within the range of estimates. That was one dollar ninety seven cents in the after hours. It is not moving. Fourth quarter net revenue coming in at two point seven billion dollars. That did beat estimates of two point six five billion dollars, moving a little lower unchanged in the after hours. Yeah. Stock is up on the year. It's up about twenty eight percent. So again, maybe in this environment, investors expect a little bit more. Talking about the outlook. Twenty twenty four revenue of fifteen point eight nine billion to sixteen point eleven billion. The estimate is fifteen point nine six billion. So it does look like it's giving some upside in terms of that.

"First alert meteorologist Brian Van de Graaff unfortunately it is a windshield wipery morning. Indeed it is and I was just talking to John the radar not really showing a lot this moisture is just in these low clouds that are hanging tough and it's just kind of a misty drizzly dampness and remember the radar beams up on a tower that's shooting you know several hundred feet to several thousand feet into the sky so this is actually just below it so it's really hard for the radar to kind of pick up on this but believe you me I'm looking at all the cameras and they're just covered in rain and yeah I drove in it you drove in it and we all are kind of dealing with it this morning so just a damp cool start with a lot of upper 50s and low 60s I think some of that moisture should start to dry out a bit but the clouds still will win out and we'll just kind of keep it a little drippy into the afternoon low to mid 60s at best or average high is supposed to be 77 so we're shooting for like 63 64 that's quite short changed here for this first full week of summer summertime no summer's over how about this how about fall prime don't tease summer's over tonight fifties uh... tomorrow we are hopeful that the skies will brighten somewhat to the afternoon i think we'll get a little bit of a lull between systems mid and upper 60s for highs tomorrow and then back into more clouds thursday friday near near seventy to round out the week but there are still a few spotty shower chances both late thursday and friday early i i think it's think the weekend really is the weekend when things start to improve in that leftover moisture from ophelia which continues to turn the off northeast it finally is able to exit out of here and that should allow some clearing out for all of us which is good listen news i do want to mention today is the equal lux have you ever heard of that that is when we have equal day and night you know you talk about the equinox but it doesn't always happen on the exact day over the weekend the sun up at 6 59 today sets at 6 59 this evening so 12 hours of daylight 12 hours of night we're getting those earlier sunsets which is good for us to go to bed and sleep well we have to get up at the crack of not even the crack of way before 60 downtown right now 58 leesburg it is 57 right now for our friends brian's in charlotte hall hasn't even cracked on yet thanks brian still ahead trying to help students missed who out during the pandemic because they were in jail i'm neil augustine 6 22 as agencies continue to bolster their cyber security resiliency needs to be a major focus advises julianna vita group vice president and chief strategy adviser for public sector at splunk one way to do that she told federal news network at its 2023 cyber leaders exchange presented by carasoft is for agencies to sure make they're taking advantage of all the capabilities available to them in the cyber tools they have already invested sit in so what they can do is take advantage of the technology that they already have in their environment and this is another thing i see across agencies most do not this is where the actual partnership with the agency and in your industry team the people who work at the companies for the tools that you have have a conversation with them about how can i get more value out of this investment we've already made want expert advice and help cyber security at your agency spelunk care soft in their reseller partners are at the ready to listen to full the discussion full visit federal news network dot com and search cyber leaders from there's do -it -yourself or hired out it's crucial to contact miss utility before digging to prevent costly and so for tree planting gardening fence and mailbox installation or and whether it's you or your contractor confirm that whoever is digging visits miss utility dot net or calls eight one one before you dig every day it's the law nobody brings you more value in fine jewelry that diamonds direct and they're proving it again by rolling back interest rates to zero percent now through sunday only you can make any purchase and spread your payments over five years an unheard of interest rate of zero point zero percent a six thousand dollar ring is just one hundred bucks a month but

This This is a president that's made very very clear that he believes that corporate profits should lead to record UAW A record UAW contract and Jean -Pierre says the president's made it very clear. He believes corporate profits should lead to record UAW contract. Donald Trump by the way goes to Michigan on Wednesday with a agreement tentative at hand on the Hollywood writers studio strike. The process begins in getting things back to work but Stephen Wolf Pereira the business officer at three pass studio says work will not begin immediately Reality is they need to get back to work. So we're glad that we have a tentative agreement. It needs now to go to the guild members and hopefully on Tuesday they will vote and ratify this but still going to be some time before before folks get back to work although WGA picket lines are down. US President Joe Biden has met with leaders from the Pacific Islands as the US tries to compete against China's influence in the region. We hear your calls for assurance that you never never never will lose your statehood or membership of the UN as a result of a climate crisis. Today the United States is making it clear that this is our position as well. And he directly addressed the issue of rising sea levels and says the US hears those concerns. In San Francisco, I'm Ed Baxter. This is Bloomberg. All right, Doug. All right, Eddie. Thank you. Let's bring in our guest. Ann Berry is with us. Ann is founder, also managing partner at Threadneedle. It's good to see you in the Bloomberg Interactive Broker Studio. Thanks for dropping by. Can we talk about some of the deals that we have been seeing or seeing coming out of Silicon either Valley, and I'm going to kind of include Amazon in that, although it's based in Seattle. Whether it's Cisco, whether it's Amazon, companies that are big cap that are making aggressive bets on artificial intelligence. how are How are you reading this? Well, I think there's one thing that's really clear, Doug, which is big tech balance. She's are really they moving the market right now? We can see Cisco and Spunk to me was a prime example of the $28 billion making sure that you could integrate cybersecurity and the AI that comes with it into hardware, they doing? Today, with Amazon in anthropic, it's a 4 billion bet on integrating AI they into cloud services? So you're seeing whether it's Cisco or Amazon, big money cash going out the door to get AI inside them? Are they feeling pressure right now to get these deals done immediately? They don't want to wait, pulled the pull trigger and not even quibble over price? You know, it's interesting. If you take a look at the Cisco smoke valuation, that that sort of a 38 % premium to you, Splunk's share price and a bit of a bump from where Cisco tried to buy Splunk in the past. Anthropic is fascinating to me, Doug. And Flopic was only founded two years ago. So if you actually think of the lifecycle of some of these businesses, and you look at the amounts money of going money out to them? It's really astonishing. So do I think there's pressure? I think the valuations we are seeing are signs of the that early in the stages, some of these are signs of that, but the pressure is there and the Amazons have to figure this out and the Cisco's have to figure this it? out. It's very interesting that we're talking AI. I don't know that you saw the commentary today from Cathie Wood talking about Nvidia and how it's really not the bet that you want to make if you're interested in AI. I mean, maybe The the herd mentality has been kind of moving that direction, but software companies in and of themselves, the deals that we're we describing right now, that seems to be really where the smart money is focused, right? Well, it's interesting. For a People say it looks like enterprise software deals are going to be on the way. But if you actually look over the last two years, the one place where private equity money has been going at scale is taking private public software businesses vista equity being part of that because Peter could view that these are actually being undervalued relative to their opportunities that a little bit to Kathy Woods argument actually. So how do you separate the wheat from the chaff here? How do you know to where put your money? Is it the people that are behind this? Is it a known known when you're dealing with kind of the higher level of intellect that's capable of driving the conversation that can see the logic of the application? not It's like shooting fish in a barrel is it? Well it was really interesting actually in in the summer I was about to say earlier in actually the summer in full now. In the summer I was at an off the record sort of gathering of tech founders and there was an individual there who's very senior at Microsoft and I sat with him and asked him exactly this question. How do you sort from from the wheat the chaff? How do you find the substance from the hype? And he said Anne here's the problem. Very very few people really cutting understand edge AI because the pace at which it's moving? And his perspective was only the people who can really understand it at scale where it's commercializable are the AI brains being paid a lot of to money sit in big companies like the Googles and the Microsofts right now. So is the view that the US really has the distinct advantage when you look at let's say what's happening in China right now? Well I think it depends on which in part the AI value chain you're talking about, Doug. So if you're talking about sort of software, if you're talking about generating and detecting things that have been generated by AI, for example deep fakes to if we talk want about national security, I think China's right up there. If you're talking about on the actual hardware and the technology side in the design elements, then the US at least for the moment remains ahead although it's at risk. I don't know if you've had chip wars by Chris. Oh I like that. Yeah, yeah. And actually Bloomberg here, you just reported today about the US government directly investing $100 billion in recruiting Wall Street investors to do it into deploying capital federally into the chip side of AI. Right, so you're seeing that the US I think it's got its lead in some areas but the rest of the world is not going to sit on its heels happy to take second place. So put that everything that we've just described now in context the of what seems to be a lot weaker growth globally. The US we can debate whether or not we're going to go into a recession or it's a soft landing that seems immaterial at this point things are slowing down. Does do that necessarily anything to the enthusiasm to put money to work right now?

However, application developers should use this incident to watch for someone trying to compromise their digital certificate infrastructure. We've got our CCP O program, we're part of the ISV accelerate program. And lastly, go to market with our distribution partners. So we've got a whole handful of different types. So I take it, you're looking for more. That's correct. So we're definitely looking to expand our footprint, our partner footprint, we're currently bringing on partners globally and in the U.S. where we work with national strategic partners and then regionally we're really specifically looking to focus on the central and west. We are doing really well. When the east, but again, we're looking to drive more partner activities. So we're always looking to add more partnerships and also technology alliance partners are really important. And so overall, we're just we're committed to being channel first. It's how we're going to market and we're investing in our partners just really to ensure this mutual success. Where can our listeners find out a little bit more about horizon three? Sure, we have our website is horizon three AI. And on that website, there is a partner tab that we'll talk about our partner program. Also allows partners to sign up to become a new partner. And our existing partners, there is the partner portal link is on that page as well. Awesome. This is Don witt with the channel daily news from telecom reseller speaking with Jennifer Lee. She is the head of channel sales at horizon three AI and Jennifer, it looks as though you're joined the organization at a great time. Cybersecurity is incredibly important. It's in a high demand in your coming out with some innovative solutions that I think is going to get you some notoriety out there. Absolutely. This is a great time to be here in a great place to be. Sounds good. Good luck in 2022 and 2023. I think it's going to be up and to the right here for the next few years for cybersecurity. Absolutely. Thank you. All right. Thank you so much.

"It's a company with a market cap in excess of $25 billion in late last month You might remember piper Sandler came out saying it was a top pick heading into the fourth quarter We're talking about the infrastructure software and data platform company Splunk where Teresa Carlson serves as president and chief growth officer Her background is pretty impressive She previously led Amazon Web Services public sector business for more than a decade And in just 6 months at her new company she says her work with clients to access use and secure data more important than ever There's no literally customers that I talk to people where I came here that didn't tell me that their use of black citizen is mission critical for their business And I think it's demonstrated through the tax of customers We work with which are really the fortune 100 90 plus of the fortune 100 customers work with us But it's going really well We are amazing to the clouds very quickly and that's one of the reasons I came over here to continue to have our customers move to the cloud and take full advantage of quant cloud How much was that move to the cloud accelerated during the pandemic And again I know you've only been there for 6 months but I know that you know about what's been happening there over the last 18 months during the pandemic I know that you have 93 of the 100 fortune 100 companies using the product How much of that how much was that accelerated during the pandemic and how much more room is there to grow Well we grew our annual cloud revenue over 70% for the tenth straight quarter And so it just continues to show you the acceleration of the cloud And I will share some my previous experience that AWS has given this because I ran our public sector business and industry's groups at AWS and during COVID we saw acceleration within our customers like two years to three years of acceleration to the cloud during the pandemic because they could not get into their data centers They could not give in and take advantage of their application So many of them had to port or rebuild those applications very quickly So especially if you're talking in mission critical areas like government and healthcare financial services telco areas that really the world can not do without They have to keep going So we had to figure out how they got use of their technology when many of their employees could not go into the data centers So you saw the growth of cloud computing really moving fast and I heard so many customers say it was such a differentiator for them in their business and their mission during that time And it also accelerated the use of cloud skills And of course one of the primary things that is as a data company the customers need to be able to take advantage of news or data as a result of that customers really started banking themselves How do I make that move more rapidly You guys think too And you have such a great perspective Theresa because you were leading the Amazon Web Services public sector business for more than a decade And then you of course are now at Splunk but I am curious about data democratization Is that truly achievable And what there always be some entities or parties or countries China for example that will have access to more and better data And so there will always be some kind of imbalance and power plays or power powerful components when it comes to the data universe Well I don't know about better data but efficiency of these to that data And there's still no company that drives innovation more rapidly than U.S. companies I mean if you look at the youth and the growth of cloud tools you know AWS that kind of started from scratch They are data They are web services from day one when nobody really even knew what cloud was And then you have Google you have Microsoft And you have this explosion of startups as a result of cloud computing And the company's in the U.S. and around the world that are developing as a result of cloud computing the access and lead that they have with data is quite amazing But I would say the most important is the ability to take advantage and use your data And one of the big key trends that's happening is open-source data that's out there can be utilized in massive ways to actually understand a problem set And you saw this as an example happening during COVID where you saw crowdsourcing going on So people could solve the problems faster or what was going on and have deeper understanding Right In terms of the data elements itself I would just say if you look at all the company like talent to your confluent and others have gone public you're seeing companies that are truly data driven and they have slices of the way they use their data and tag it that allows these companies to really do things that they never thought of doing Now I can throw their data in somewhere and it gets organized I don't have to put it in all these tables That's Teresa Carlson president and chief growth officer at the publicly traded software maker and data company Splunk You're listening to Bloomberg businessweek coming up next We pick up on our conversation from last week with the founder chairman and CEO of Dell Technologies None other than Michael Dell including his thoughts on the next big technological breakthrough and facing down Carl icahn Gotta say in the book he talks about "Of things they can write a community a custom query which is a Microsoft Office like traditional file right? So even if you start getting data points around that metrics it will indicate some of the files are being related. And same kind of things that are available for all kind of logging system. Even Splunk support so I guess gradi system cloud based logging support space system and building a custom metrics on top of your logging. Customer took a screen so when I get the custom metrics can I click on action based on the magic of games like yes. So is there a tool that's already doing that for us or we will have to add something? We'll just say one word here that's called Prometheus alone manager. You can do anything with it. Cool. I think Tom or how are we doing for time as a time to summarize the call and get some final thoughts from everybody? That's up to you guys. How's everybody else thinking let's just start well let's just see where we are so far. Maybe I'll let me try and summarize and see if people have any more questions that people want to discuss and ask some really good discussions today. I really appreciate everybody joining in and giving us your thoughts because the more we talk to each other the more we learn and the more we know how people are solving problems the easier we get. You know if the easier it becomes for everybody else it's all about people helping each other. And that's what I love about this cloud native community. People do talk. People do share ideas. So I think so far we've talked about quite a lot of tools. There's still a lot of configuration that you have to do 3D was just spoken about and you know we've got this alert managers as well. So tons of tools that we talked about tomorrow said they're going to summarize all of this. And if you want the summary of that you can click on Mauricio's and Thomas profile and get that grab that link and put your email address in a little send you the summary of the talk and all the projects that were discussed today Bermuda's grafana was talking about Commodore and canines and kubectl and swimming was mentioning quite aptly all the cloud providers their own tools and their own managers and others have also sucked them and you're getting everybody's mentioned it. So any other force from anybody else. So I think even though we all do like alerting and monitoring and observability but I think we've still got a long way to go. And that's why we have so many tools around currently. Yeah so just like what do others think? Okay so one thing we have discussed metrics and logging. So there is one more thing that normally it's not done. But it is as good as both of them. It's called tracing. It's not done because it's difficult to get it. If we have this microservices microservice architecture do have this dressing and able you have to most of the time if you are on service mesh you will get it where default if you are not then you have to add the code. There is an open telemetry project is there. But anyways just get this pressing enable sometimes it helps a lot to debug issue. We can have which microservices taking time because otherwise it will be just like one call which got delayed or it took like one minute. But if we have this tracing enable then we will know okay like okay this microservice took more time. So. My big success are important also important but yes dressing is also. Open telemetry semester. Yes. Yeah. 'cause I'm gonna be here. With you on this because we are using service mesh and sometime like developers are facing issues in terms of communicating with their microservices and. They are checking those things in zipkin to how the communications are going between the microservices and all that and that's really helped to solve their problem. But yeah just just wanted to add one more thing here like our yoga set about that like it's difficult to maintain. So. Any service mesh so we are using Istio but anise service mesh is difficult to enable and maintain that's actually comes with that. So yeah that's it for myself. Someone we need to add service meshes to this call. Next time we have more and more topics coming right? Yeah we go tons.
