"It's 5 30 on Wall Street. Good morning, I'm Nathan Hager. And I'm Karen Moscow, we are just about four hours away from the open of U.S. trading. Let's get you up to date on the news you need to know at this hour, futures are bouncing back after two straight days of losses on Wall Street. The S&P 500 and NASDAQ 100 posted their worst two day tumble since mid June following a fed chair Jay Powell's hawkish comments on Friday. Terry speth is chief investment officer with Zuma wealth. The markets are spooked because they're afraid that the fed could create a hard landing. Looking forward into September, what we're going to want to try and anticipate is if we see a 75 basis point rise, which I think is a very high probability of increasing probability is that digested as bad news or as good news. Sumo wealth CIO Terry spath says she expects continued market volatility in the short term. While the market may have been rattled by Powell's speech, Karen, Minneapolis, fed president Neal kashkari says he was comforted by the selloff. I was actually happy to see how chair Powell's Jackson hole speech was received. You know, people now understand the seriousness of our commitment to getting inflation back down to 2%. Minneapolis fed president Neil kashkari spoke on the odd lots podcast with Bloomberg's tracee alloy and Joe wiesenthal listened to the entire interview wherever you get your podcasts. Well, Nathan, interest rates are in focus in Europe, ECB chief economist Philip lane seemed to question the idea of a 75 basis point hike at next week's meeting. If we think about the next couple of years, we're not necessarily going to be that long run steady state. We may have cyclical forces in either direction that say that the policy rate should be evolved neutral rates. We may have cyclical forces that may say at the policy rate should be below that rate. ECB chief economist Philip lane is urging a steady pace of rate hikes to fight in record inflation. To politics now Karen Bloomberg news has learned the Biden administration's preparing to sell $1.1 billion in missiles and radar support to Taiwan, which will likely increase tensions with China. Well, back at home, Nathan, President Biden will deliver a prime time speech this week, escalating criticism of what he calls extreme maga Republicans. It comes as the president is seeing his approval ratings improve ahead of November midterms. Bloomberg political contributor Jeannie Sheehan Zeno says for Democrats, one strategy will be keeping former president Trump in the news. The political reality is the more Donald Trump is in the news, the better for Democrats. And that's been reality. So, you know, the more Trump the better for them. "Is accurate the police operator clearly is at fault and clearly needs to get its act together. Yeah well i and again based on this report They were at fault simply because they hadn't done the proper notifications on airspace. They were in contact with trollers now where it starts to get gray and apparent even in canada in is whether or not law enforcement is required to follow these rules. Are they in the united states. Do you know technically magnetically legally. Yeah whether they do or not is another issue. Technically no public aircraft or exempt. I bloody everything. Except a airspace rules in class b. You really can't go flirting around with that but everything else including pilot qualifications. Engine maintenance annual inspections. That's all if the option of public aircraft operator and over the years as this his come up and and gone. By on numerous occasions we learned that most public institutions that operate aircraft Believe in following the rules at least most of the time and do not wanna make themselves a target of a congressional action may still need to also. I think comply with al. Atc in respect airspace. At least in the us. Yeah but so the. Let's see no a part of the last graph of the story on. Caterers hairs kadar. Cad r. s. is the acronym canada's civil aviation daily occurrence reporting system. Sounds like our The you know that. What's the reporting system. The nasa runs in the us. Yeah in any event It's The caterer. I'm gonna caters. Sorry if that's roncador. Report classifies the accident as a quote unauthorized entry in quote to controlled. Airspace is also noted that navc candidate the air traffic control provider was not aware of the drone activity in the area on reading from story. Here by the way In canada drones are banned within three nautical miles of uncontrolled airports and restricted to four hundred feet ag l. without speth special authorization to fly in the controlled airspace. The drone in the aircraft were in canada has to approve it and the drone pilot must be in radio contact with controllers. The police department has not commented any further on the mishap except to say that the drone was part of a operation in the area where that justifies the whole thing. You know well you know. I mean they. They screwed up so at the very least. They're going to be very you know circumspect And we'll see what happens but It was an undercover drum. Yeah you know. I don't know the takeaway to me from the story that is is that is that this is real. This can happen. We need to be really careful and everybody needs to follow the rules and we need to make sure the rules are are are adequate because another takeaway if you're a criminal and you don't wanna be surveilled by drown macos to an airport yell. Well okay. maybe there's some that what's next year. Sonic boom. Did you hear about this back. No pun intended. All right. i meant to call. I meant to send an email to dicta. Pinski are pell. Who communications director at ya to ask him whether or not this is real but it looks pretty clery plausible. Okay came across video From air venture. Twenty twenty one. The couple of weeks ago a young woman was shooting a segment from your basic youtube. You know airplane video on choosing the cockpit of an airplane on the ground at at whitman field there during it was apparently thursday of air venture week so things were going on. And she's doing her little talk to the camera bit and then all of a sudden they're really in a pop more than a pop a boom bang bang and her hair actually got blown. You could see the the wind at the same time as the bang. Blue her hair a stray for a moment right and she was shook and she kind of laughed nervously and and then she continued with her thing. And the and the the general consensus here is that. I'm a fighter plane doing a fly by Over the over the grounds Inadvertently exceeded the the spirit disputes out and made a sonic boom. Does that seem plausible to you guys. Have you guys watch video. And i i. I would i would. I would grant you a couple of seconds to actually not only watch the video but turn on the sound and uh but I wasn't. I don't i've never heard of that. There are many times when people post pictures. There's there's a particular thing with with where this what condensation missed forms on the top of a wing and people mistakenly will call that breaking the sound barrier. All right It it's not. it's nothing like that. But it's not this. This seems very plausibly to have been an actual sonic boom during a fly by at air venture. And wow wow. Do we know when what day what time this was recorded on. It may be in the in the description of that video i i. I think it was thursday afternoon. But prior to the air show maybe during the showcase just prior to the air. Show or something like that Yeah okay there's a comment Partway down by a or called. Von drowsy. andreotti is. That's means something a dirty word that they tricked me into saying This was on thursday at the he. This person bond assuming vaughn as a he was on thursday at the end of the legends of the air force formation on the other aircraft were landing and then the f sixteen did one last fly by it was right in front of me. This comment writes We were only feet away from the edge. It's spectacular line. Wow three exclamation points. It was like a double boom a looked at my friend. Next to me and unbelievable we thought maybe it was pyrotechnics. After a little debating and reasoning. We concluded that the f. sixteen did hit the magic boom. That's one commentator to this to this piece anyways. I'm going to reach out to dick and ask him if he knows anything about this. And if they have any any Backstory interesting to learn his f16 squadrons like that. Yeah well yeah and how much trouble they got in trouble. Wake drink free for a week. Think off so. I'd never have either of you ever been the the. I don't know what the right word would be witnessed personally witnessed a sonic boom. I haven't I used to hear him all the time sixties. I guess maybe. I might have heard them back then. But You know and and you know. I don't know how to characterize so as you know. I mean i get the feeling that that this was a so. Here's my question. I guess here's one question is sonic boom a a linear thing. It's like if you're going just a little bit above the speed of sound it's a little sonic boom but if you're going a lot above the speed of sound it's a bigger sonic booms and how this works..

"Used to look at Was linus tech tips occasionally. He's pretty interesting thought. Yeah he's not strictly lennox cage he does talk about lennox and lately. He's been talking about it more of a positive light to so yeah Some of these lennox youtube channels out there horrible audio quality and some might be speaking with a foreign accent and nothing against that. It's not my intention sound nationalistic racist but for me an accent could sometimes be too strong. Be to understand. Antonio joe agree. Say so i mean. I think like i don't really watch too many youtube channels with like or an accents. But you know sometimes you talking to the customer service. Sometimes i have trouble understanding some people get the. I don't think that makes you sound racist. Just did not use to hearing a certain accent. It can be difficult to understand what they're saying. Yeah i'll be look it up a specific topic relating to lennox and i'll come across these videos that their accents are so thick i can't understand them at all or they're the subtitles on her. They usually have available sometime. They did about those. Youtube subtitles are not perfect by any means. I think the kind of funny subsets Now with some work. And i'm speaking as someone who's had speech therapy myself growing up. A content creator with an accent can make themselves more understandable takes work and even with the english language while some people don't always speak clearly but there that's another subject for another time and not really for this channel or whatever so Part of the cargo criteria for this is i can actually understand what speed said of the videos and also having a good quality of audio not perfect quality because sometimes these youtubers have hit or miss audio quality bullets well enough that i could still understand them. Gotcha and i'm going to start with my least favorite of these and Somewhat problematic because there's some videos of his. I like but then he doesn't talk about lennox all the time and then sometimes when he does bring like religion and politics at some of it too so and that's like far right politics and i've made it clear a very liberal guy but i don't bring politics too much should to this podcast and i think i mean that's i was moves like some people like they're really passionate about their political views. So gotta talk about them. But yeah i feel i feel like for the most part. You say pretty Bipartisan around here. Yeah this podcast is not about politics. I mean we might get politics a little especially politics regarding say up at source software free software that is a political subject something that actually spans both right and left. We have a open source. Software advocates or free and open source software ag. Acquited sites should say both sides of the spectrum. Okay yeah so this first one. I'm going to talk about. It's a guy named luke smith. He's a programmer. Who makes Videos of both youtube and odyssey. We've uploaded in the past Podcast episodes odyssey as well. But i've not putting anything lately because Back at the time it was a library dot tv. And they were said by the sec. We are earning. The library tokens. I cashed that out already. Okay yeah that was before you really the podcast into audio gotcha so That is Something that we haven't been on for a while. I thought about putting stuff up there again. But i don't know about the future because of the sec sui library Dot tv and now. But that's a different story. Most of these people upload to youtube ebb odyssey by the way so look speth does that. He's a big proponent of the dwi window manager which has talent window manager and the creator of. I can't remember what barb stands for. But basically install doc files or configuration files. Running suck lous software on architects lennox so software. Okay yeah definitely so you're member cyclist being mentioned when we were talking about alternative web browsers. Okay yeah so like sir. Yeah okay. What i like. He has great videos on terminal programs as well as tiling window managers he was on night three four wild than he switched to I can't remember who. Fee i switch to be p. Wm i or just went straight to. Dwi my thinking went straight to the wm. If i remember correctly okay. But he's a huge proponent of that but it gets kind of elitist about that. Nal explain that in a bit What i don't like he uses a lot of language used by people on the far right these days such as soy and even uses the term soil wear for software that he doesn't like and also he uses a lot of memes. That are popular with the far-right such as paid the frog right I dunno zafar right knee at didn't again that way but sped 'associated With a far more in more recent years okay. Yeah and we won't get too much. That i know the david pacman show has talked about it a bit The guardian even says the smith has promoted far right political ideology and smith even preaches. A war against the modern world pretty much Read a luddite or something. I guess i'll know. Read editors have said luke smith as a white supremacist. And i haven't found anything to confirm that quite But i have blotches all his video. So i think it's one of those things that kinda like all conservatives kinda get lumped into like your conservative than you must be like supremacist dislike. I feel like a lotta times like liberals Jumped into light certain groups to possibly. But i need to do sabar watching of his videos of this before i can really make a judgment call but.

"Back then. Xt four-minute just a few wrap things up here. Is adam cole. The guy should he be the baby face no matter what they've done in the past months with him should they just go with cole. I mean that promo to me is why coal should be the baby face. Cross should be the he'll cross is. I'm sorry overrated. It doesn't take bumps he. This was his best segment in terms of a human being wasn't just a character in a hothouse trying to scare twelve year. Old girls exaggerated facial expressions. As i always say. I'll say it until he stopped doing it. He was better. He was more human. I thought it was his best segment on the mike in a while. And i want more of that. But it was. He'll me cole. Is the cocky brash. Self-confident baby face. Who's good any knows it. But the fans like him. I like that alignment better. And i think they're fighting a headwind if they try to go a different direction. So your thoughts on that. And then just what does it say about their confidence in their booking right now that they just through five people in one match take over because they don't have that one on one match that i think they're not doing this because it's a great idea. They're doing it because they don't have a better idea of one on one he I think the dynamic needs to be that i personally enjoy across more a he'll anyway When they started doing that twitter stuff like oh not liking this so let's just cement him as the he'll you want to go at kohl's a baby seattle weird considering you know what he's kyle riley but i don't think kyle riley's completely clicked either since maybe do a weird double turn their o'reilly just outraged. That people are accepting adam cole. I think that that that is easily correctable who i hope they do. Because you don't talk about early. We're kind of going full circle with the weird shades of gray thing. They're doing just too much of it. Especially on top. And then the five way i welcome it. I was not when they did that. Triple threat to determine who is going to be number one contender. None of those matches really appealed to me because they wouldn't be good once. The bell rang because they probably would. But it's just i. It's hard to by anyone beating cross this soon as it is but it was just something about each of those mashes individually like. Yeah whatever i do okay crosses gonna win and move on this at least yet. Put adam cole in there. That gives a little more juice. And you're also not going right to that. I think it would be premature just to go right to the coal and cross match straight up singles and so i think you can do some storytelling in this semitic still assume that cross retains. But i think there's going to be it'll be a little more fun Going to five ways so. This is a rare time. When i'm like. Yeah go with the multi person but if they're doing their job and have everybody aligned while still rather have that that that i gotta see this one on one match up. They just don't have we talked about. Aws not necessarily having those world champion types. And i still think they do. But with an x t. I mean we're talking t champion types and i mean you can make whoever you want to champion. But they don't too many people screaming like these guy there's the and usually do you know there's usually a keith lee in the wings or just getting go back as far as you want. They don't have that right now. Yeah no. I agree on this thing. Just roman reigns your your your thoughts on the dynamic with russo jay and jimmy heading into tomorrow night's title shot where the usos challenge rey and dominik for the belts and j being sort of torn over whether he should be enthusiastic about something he wants to be enthusiastic about which is teaming with his brother again. I of assume we get the usual stable. But it's a different twist on it with. It's kind of an odd couple just bickering tag team champions kind of thing. I'm really into what they're doing i. I don't know where it's going and i like that. It's a unique dynamic. It feels there's soap opera element to it or just keeps you engaged. Week-to-week going okay. Where's this going now. And the only thing. I don't like about it and i said this going into the match if it is as simple as that luso's when the titles. Why did you race through the mysterious becoming the first father and son tag team champions. You should have saved. that match. Should have been. I still they. Just they started telling the story when they were challenging for the titles Instead of hey these long term aspiration you take people on a journey to get to that moment. They just rushed through. That and i have a bad feeling rushing through their title ran. And it's like okay. Then what did you really get out of it. Yeah yeah excited about. Kevin owns Challenging for the title kind of breaking off from just being in the mix Tomorrow night challenging for the belt against apollo crews or is this just feel sort of treading water with mid card smackdown wrestlers who are good. But you know just. It's more say i'm okay with it owens. You can tell they like him but it was part of that just like i'm almost charity for him to switch brands again. He might be that guy that needs to switch hands like every time there's a shakeup he would peak out and lose you know how many times to roman reigns and i mean i'm not dreading the mash betty me but i'm not like anxious for now. I do like the new cruise character. I think they need to be careful though. I just visually. It looks really hokey to have generalists. commanders whatever. His name is out there wearing that jacket. And there's i think they can tone some of that down and get rid of that stupid chapter thing that he carries around over the hell that is and make this less cartoonish and i think it would work fine. Your quick thoughts on jimmy speth in its debut on monday better than adnan virk. That says nothing you know. we'll see they. They still have grades. Saxton carrying the load. And i mean i think if there had not been those five advert weeks or whatever they were. We'd be going. Oh boy they. They've got really work out for him so in a way that kind of soften the blow for jimmy smith. I know he wasn't your favorite. I have no idea whether the tom phillips i. I don't know why they tom. I just made fun of him. 'cause he was a robot i mean. I shouldn't say made fun of. I just pointed out that he was a robot. But i don't have anything against robots right and not a workmanlike job. I mean it was definitely he was my you know he was good. Good good thank you for asking. He struck me as like everything they look for. Yes he did what they wanted him to do. He was michael cole light. He's out of a job so they can bring in somebody from the outside world doesn't have that much experience doing this. As far as pro wrestling is concerned. And i don't understand why. I have all the problems to fix on raw. That's the one you're worried about. Really yeah i mean from what i hear you know just told the comets. Let's let's the entertainment and wrestling. Let's bring somebody in and it is. It's the to to their detrimental fascination with not being a pro wrestling show and being part of entertainment and so you know they.

Oh my gosh. it's it was traumatic lasted with me since we moved to houston texas from kansas city. When i was ten years old. And they're i'm sure it's a black problem. If you call it a problem there must have been obviously but it did. There weren't that many americans there and was i wasn't aware of it at all. I think i knew one very nice. African american worked from my grandfather's drugstore kansas. If we moved to houston kansas city got to houston and the very second night where there my father was a dentist His sponsored brought him down there to be in the office with a and a teacher to dental college there. had dinner out at a very fancy residential area of houston wherever out and there that time it'd never conditioning didn't have freezers. Can believe it or not. You call it the drugstore. You got ice cream delivered. After dinner and the delivery boys were all black motorcycle. The boys we were sitting on the front porch having a nice talk with dr smith. I'll call him. I wouldn't want to embarrass any ayers. Yeah sure it should embarrass him to wooden than at any rate. The boy came on the on the motorcycle and he was a boy. Not not a man maybe seventy seventy and he obviously was looking for a way to get to the back door at a flashlight looking around and there was a new subdivision. That didn't have the kind of normal driveways. You'd have that kind of a strange entrance to an alleyway. Couldn't find it and finally he started walking up this long front walk to the front porch. And dr smith is sitting there in iraq. Or i'll remember and as the boy started up the walkway. Every step void took. Smith would move forward just a little another inch or two and you could feel tension building but i had no idea why and the boy came and as he put his foot on the step for one of the four steps coming up with the porch speth came out of his seat. Like polaris missile with his hand already. Cocked in a fist. And he hit him in the middle of the face. Middle of the face knocked him back onto the onto the grass ice cream flying out of his hand of course in the sack and he said excuse horrible word but he said that'll teach you nigger. Never put your foot on a white man's front porch. Well that did that did it. I was just watching this amazing scene of forty import of it did strike me at the moment but horrible to see anybody hit. I don't think i've ever seen anybody get before like that. My father though. Got up and said walter hudson. We're leaving and started down the front steps. And dr smith said. Wait a win. Well what's the matter what what's the matter. He didn't no matter. Even my father said we're leaving and he said i'll get my car. I got my car other than answering. Wouldn't answer we walked out into the dark of strange city. Strange neighborhood away from the downtown section where we were staying hotel and walked down that street. My father seething and my mother saying what are we gonna do. What are we going to. Do you know out in this dark area. We waited for the past a couple of houses. Open there'd be a light there. We could call a car or something and find one. Went to shepherd drive and hitched a ride. Finally getting downtown and it was only. In retrospect that i realized i would never prouder my father then that moment but gave.

"No one notice. You tend to notice when those apollo ships were shooting off into the fucking sky also. They said launch from vandenberg on the west coast of the united states instead of cape canaveral on the east coast would have brought up all sorts of fucking trajectory problems because fucking science. It just works out that way but you don't just have to take our fucking word for it because they asked scientists. They being the people that investigated this if launching eastward as in real flights if there would would have happened and if you look at I mean you can. I just heard lonn must talking the other day about this. They win their launch windows for anywhere. You wanna go because of where. We are circling The sun and where your target is you have to launch from certain geographies to go in certain directions at certain times. They're only. There's only like six months every two years that you can take off to go to mars for me. Also have to realize that you have to go into action because the earth spinning so if they launched eastward as in what real flights to the massive first-stage rockets would have fallen back onto the us. Mainland that would have caused massive injury damage. Kill people it also would have been easily spotted because flying debris crushing people Instead of plumbing in the atlantic ocean like they always did because they did it as far as close to the water as they could because they have to go that way now. They launched westward over the pacific. That has its own problems because it would be subjected to the huge speed penalty. When i mean by that is they these orbiting rockets. They lift off along westies projector in order to take advantage of the speed. Boosts of the earth's rotation were rotating like thousand miles an hour nine hundred and ten miles an hour. Roughly that's forty eight hundred seventy kilometers at the latitude of the kennedy space center and east to west launch. You would get you'd lose all that velocity that you pick up and you would have to accelerate against earth's blah blah blah blah blah. Who gives a shit. It doesn't work out. that's all a lie. What about the alien craft. That's where guys not compute well poop so the high resolution original photo show that is just an elongated depression of the lunar surface. It appears of a smooth artificial. You shape is just an artifact of low quality copies like when you make a copy of a copy and then you see almost looks like something else than and there used by a lot of ufo people in the past two fake things and they call them hoax. Perpetrators that you see that used a lot the illusion of this shape vanishes when you actually look up the high quality photos and you notice that. How Could Hypersonic Missiles Work?
"Today's episode is brought to you by the capital one venture card the capital one venture card you earn unlimited double miles every purchase every day and you can use those miles toward travel expenses like flights hotels rental cars and more just book and pay for your travel using your venture card and redeem your miles toward the cost capital one. What's in your wallet? Credit approval required capital one bank U._S._A.. An welcome to brain stuff production of iheartradio Hebron stuff Lauren Vogel bomb here at a meeting in Arlington Virginia in late two thousand eighteen. One of the Pentagon's top officials told an audience of defense executives that the U._S. is locked in a tight race with Russia and China to develop a new game changing weapon the could fly at many times the speed of sound in could be used to launch devastating attack upon an emmy in a matter of minutes these which was told by Michael de Griffin the Department of Defense Undersecretary for Research at engineering that of all of the technological marvels at the Pentagon hoped to create developing a hypersonic missile Dole was his highest priority. It's hard to understand why hypersonic missiles technology that could be deployed as soon as the mid twenty twenty s sounds like the sort of exotic menace that villain would dream up in James Bond thriller. We could get them to work. Hypersonic missiles could have the ability to fly and maneuver it speeds between five and twenty five thousand kilometers per hour at a range of altitudes up to one hundred kilometers above earth surface for our non-metric friends. That's about three to fifteen thousand miles per hour at up to. Sixty two miles high at the edge of orbital space these capabilities could make a nightmare to defend against them because they would be moving so fast that it would be difficult to predict where they were about to strike until the last few minutes before impact end because the missiles travel. It's such a high speed their sheer kinetic energy alone would enable them to wreak destruction without carrying any conventional explosives or nuclear warheads. There are different potential methods of attaining fantastic speed what approaches to fire conventional missile that would in turn release smaller hypersonic glide vehicle which would fly up into the upper layers of the atmosphere another approach would utilize a rocket or advanced jet engines such as a scrammed jet military visionaries have in contemplating hypersonic weapons for decades but it wasn't until recently the concept begin to see him close to fruition not due to anyone specific breakthrough in technology but rather due to a combination of progresses and political motivation. We spoke by email with Eon de buoyed a professor of airspace engineering at the University of Michigan. He explained to develop a missile. You I have to show that the platform can fly emission of interest that was demonstrated in the U._S.. In Two thousand ten to twenty fourteen by scrammed jet powered demonstration Asian flights while the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency or Darpa to flight tests of their H.. T. V. to boost glide vehicle ended in failure. Significant progress was demonstrated an important lessons learned in an overlapping time period the Pentagon and demonstrated longer range hypersonic vehicle capabilities and their conventional prompt strike program Darpa in the Air Force then partnered to mature many of the systems needed on a platform to make into a weapon as such as the guidance navigation and control materials. Dell's structures and rocket boosters but the U._S. wasn't alone. Interest in developing hypersonic capabilities Boyd said China was watching and learning and at some point started investing hyper sonics since two thousand fifteen it became evident that significant progress was being made that at least in numbers of flight tests conducted appeared to show China Outpacing U._S. efforts and in Russia where they've worked on hypersonic for decades like the U._S. also seem to have had recent successes but test flights in response to the Chinese and Russian progress the trump administration is pushing to develop hypersonic weapons as soon as possible and is requesting funding of two point six billion dollars for hypersonic research by the Air Force Navy Army and Darpa in its budget request for the twenty thousand financial all year the managing editor for National Security for the Center for Public Integrity. One are Jeffrey Smith reported in The New York Times magazine that spending on developing hypersonic weapons could rise to five billion dollars a year as the U._S. pushes to develop a deployable hypersonic or Sonic Missile System in the next two to three years though hypersonic missiles could carry nuclear warheads the missiles being developed by the U._S. will only be equipped with conventional explosives but they'll still be plenty fearsome as Smith wrote in The Times of quote the missiles function like nearly invisible power drills at smash holes in their targets to catastrophic affect. They'll impact their targets with a force equivalent to three to four tons of T._N._T.. According to Speth in some ways hypersonic. Like missiles presented different and perhaps even scarier threat to peace than present nuclear arsenals because they could enable a nation to launch a surprise attack and crippling enemies ability to retaliate leaving it helpless against the threat of nuclear attack. They'd be difficult to defend against I for a number of reasons their speed the fact that they fly in an area between aviation and spaceflight that we've never had to defend in and they're maneuverable meaning that have to be tracked throughout their flight with accuracy Boyd explained another issue quote put this class of missiles is not covered by any currently valid weapons treaty. This poses a number of concerns including the fact that the nation's primarily involved the U._S.. China and Russia do not have established protocols in place for the use of these systems finally only the potential for a hypersonic weapon to carry either a conventional warhead or a nuclear warhead means that a nation under threat wouldn't know whether a nuclear response should be considered that all means that in the near future hypersonic missiles could lead to a continuous atmosphere of hyper anxiety in which nations might be afraid to not strike first or to instantly launch a counter attack at the first hint of trouble or at the very least it could prompt nations to spend even more money on not just counter-attacks but defense measures. What Chickens Can Teach Hearing Researchers
"This is Americans sixty seconds science. I'm Steve Mirsky the truth for all of our senses that they are there to convert physical energy in the surrounding world into electrical responses, which are the common currency that the nervous system uses rugged fail university neuroscientist, James hood Speth. So I and the photoreceptors there have to convert light into electric ears. Someone only have to convert mechanical vibrations in the air into electrical responses, and the way this is done is there are so called hair cells these cells have little microscopic bristles about one hundred of them and on the top of each cell, these bristles vibrate back and forth in response to sound. That's an electrical signal that then goes down in near fiber into the brain, HUD, Speth, the university of Wisconsin. Medicines rubber fetish place, and the Pasteur institutes Christine petite shared the two thousand eighteen Calveley prize in Euroscience for. Their work on the molecular and neural mechanisms of hearing, HUD, Speth and fed-up place. Both spoke April ninth at the National Academy of sciences in Washington DC at an event honoring tenuous Nobel Catholic prize laureates the evening was sponsored by the Calveley prize and produced by scientific American more from HUD Speth, and the real question is what happens with these hair cells as they degenerate. We lose them owing to loud sounds. We lose them owing to certain legitimate drugs. We lose them just with aging, and what can be done to repair them. So that we can restore hearing Robert Robert fetter place. Well, I mean to us specs this mean one is this. In fact, you could try and regret them almost all hearing loss due to death of the hassles. Like, a formation of them in the first place, the cells along the Cochlear are all different than you, not just generate a generic Hessel you to generate one specific for each place. It has the specific properties which differ along the organ, and and will connect up to the nerve fibers the problems that Robert has mentioned pertain to mammals including ourselves and the situation is very different with other four legged animals tetrapods so in in reptiles, including birds this regeneration is going on all time same in fish. And in fact, you can take into a motley Crue concert or whatever blasted Sears, and they will quite nicely. Regenerate. Even with frequencies Pacific ourselves. They will reconnect and the animal will be able to hear normally again, I agree that there is an enormous challenge. And this is certainly something that happened overnight in ourselves, but I don't think it's hopeless task. And I think basically what many people are trying to do is to decode the signals that are sent as these hair cells develop and by doing so to recognize the signaling pathways. That might be reactivated to recapitulate, the original development and restore hair cells by that means just don't take your chicken to Marilyn Manson concert. For scientific Americans sixty seconds science. I'm Steve Mirsky.
