Spacecraft Named For 'Hidden Figures' Mathematician Launches From Virginia
"Her name just prior to her death at age 101 in 2020 Johnson won the presidential Medal of Freedom, received an honorary doctorate from West Virginia University and was spotlighted in the Oscar nominated film Hidden Figures. Northrop Grumman named its new cargo craft the SS Katherine Johnson, following the company's tradition of naming new spacecraft after influential figures in the history of space flight. In a news release, Northrop Grumman said Johnson's work quote quite literally launched Americans into space, and her legacy continues to inspire young black women every day, unquote Yes, I hired Johnson in the 19 fifties at the dawn of the space age. Her work was to act as a human computer, and that work was underappreciated and underpaid. At the time. However, it's now recognized as instrumental in sending the first Americans into Speight's Johnson also double check the orbital equations you through John Glenn's 1962 Space flight, and she calculated the precise time and location for launching the first manned mission to the moon. Yesterday, Johnson's namesake took off from Virginia to deliver supplies, scientific experiment and spare equipment to the crew on board in the international space station. In December. Does the Golden Gate Bridge Howl?
"To Answer Ryan's question about the sound he heard crossing the Golden Gate. Bridge. We, let our sound Engineer Rob Speight out of the studio to investigate welcome rob I live. Yeah. So what's with the sound will the sound is actually coming from the bridge itself a new sidewalk railing slats being installed as part of a win retrofit program to make the bridge safer and more resilient. I spoke with Paulo Brazil Schwartz, he works for the Golden Gate Bridge Highway and Transportation District. Bridge engineers were designing original railings they wanted to provide pedestrians a sense of safety while allowing drivers to take in views of San, Francisco East, and the Pacific Ocean to the West while on the engineers design the new railings to look like the old ones except this shape makes them look more ever dynamic I'm old railing there. There are a few inches thick almost like a two by four. The new ones are quite thin and when the wind hits them just at the right angle and with enough velocity. What we're hearing now was recorded across the bay. But what are question asker? Ryan experienced was the sound on the bridge itself, right? Yeah. The distant sound is almost ferial whereas for those on the bridge. You can hear it really land moving. So. Loud. In fact that some people even recorded in their call one driving A. The bridge is making the sound all the time. Right? Right. It does require a pretty specific set of conditions are we've only heard at a handful of times where you could hear it beyond the bridge in order to create the effect, we do wins with a little bit of more west or southwest straight west wind doesn't we produce the effect only hearing it when there's a of an angle to it, he also went onto say that wind over a certain speed is also required to make the noise, but they're still studying this to determine what speed actually is. One thing I'm excited about Nubia. In the I found out if you look at the sound using spectral and as you know I'm a bit of a Geek and I do something evenings and weekends. Fundamental frequency of the sound is very special. It's four hundred, Forty Hertz. What's so important about four, hundred and forty hertz well as any musician muno eight, four forty is the tuning standard for the musical note a above C I mean it's kind of a bit technical but in general, all Western instruments use this frequency as the basis of a standard tuning. We did it very similar analysis to yours. I'm sure taking the video and analyzing the frequency four, hundred forty hurts the most audible one. There's also a a higher frequency ten, thousand, ninety, her we did. Recognize early on that one of them had a musical connection is a happy coincidence but the bridge making new noises, musical feature certainly, not something we designed for, which is why we're doing testing and we'll be evaluating mitigation measures to camp or eliminate the noise just based on feedback we've heard from the community. So you've probably got a short window to hear the bridge singing. It's mysterious song across the bay. Before the district implements fixed, we should do keep an eye on the weather forecast for North, westerly or southwesterly wind and then go and have a listen. Rob. Speight thank you so much. Thank you. Your

"Speight is gonna join us for Porter talk about how restaurants have come together after the death of George the rational Democrats came up with the police misconduct reform bill yesterday which among other things creates a national police misconduct registry bands chokeholds excellent Ching a federal crime finally publicans are set to respond today intraday bird is joining us live from Washington DC with the latest on how Republicans are gonna put together some sort of response to this and what's going on right so this year this proposal by Democrats was solely done by Democrats there was no Republican input in either the house or the Senate in terms of lawmakers weighing in in crafting this proposal this police reform act of twenty twenty so now Republicans are starting to weigh in on this congressional Democrats police misconduct reform bill for example Republican senator Mitt Romney Jim Scott they're said to be working together on their own policy legislation so it it appears that we're going to see another bill a Republican version of the bill in the house Republicans are still discussing their options but as you mentioned there's a highlight in the Democrats version of the bill among other things you know create the national police misconduct registry dance chokeholds makes lynching a federal crime that was all introduced on Monday and it's unclear what is going to actually be in the Republican version but I can tell you there does seem to already be agreement at least on a Mitt Romney side centered at Robbie died on on creating a police misconduct registry as well as limiting the transfer of military equipment to local police but as far as major differences we're just gonna have to wait and see until they actually dropped something up here and then even if Republicans and Democrats can come together in Congress and pass something if we heard anything out of the White House about the opinion of the president on this sort of legislation so that's where things are going to get really interesting because the trump administration while not naming this specific legislation has said that this is the will of board that the will of the radical left that they put in just trying to get rid of or dismantle police altogether but that is not you with that the Democrats version of this bill that is not what it intends to do there is no language that would get rid of police department the president has said he is in favor of getting rid of bad officers but keeping the rest it's still going to be interesting to see at the start to pick up steam first you know it there's so many hurdles that will need to clear before it ever gets the president's staff not the least of which is to see where Republicans especially in the Senate the GOP led Senate where Republicans stand and will they be able to work together with Democrats to come to some sort of compromise even if it passes the house will it happens then it will it passed both chambers I will never get the president's desk I don't know if you know the answer to this but what has DC done with its side with its police reform conversation has there been one I'm just around Lafayette park has been really the center of the epicenter really of the demonstrations here in DC of course Lafayette park is that park a public park right outside of the White House where people have been demonstrating peacefully and a group of peaceful protesters were gassed we moved out of the way as we all know by now for the president to take that that photo in front of the church there and there's been sort of a demilitarized he actually shouldn't call the police force presence there ever spent you know for example I do think this is a relatively small area especially for the south thousands of protesters who have been coming from all over the country so they needed help in sort of I guess controlling the crowds so they used other police departments nearby like in Virginia well Virginia pulled its officers out there that after that the bottle so it's interesting to kind of see the dynamic here locally as well as all the decisions are made federally literally just right down the street especially because those local agencies have to work so often in conjunction with the federal age right well and then also connected to the Democrats bill it looks like Nancy Pelosi and some other politicians getting a lot of heat for wearing those can take cloths scarves when they were announcing what the reform measure would entail yeah they also took a knee and a moment of silence there was a roughly eight minute to symbolized you know how how long officer shop in NY with on a George Floyd so and that was right before they introduced this legislation you know there are some people who are critical and said this is just you know a photo op you know question garb why now Democrats beat this was a big Democrats like Chuck Schumer Nancy Pelosi have been in office for quite some time you know kind of what took so long but generally speaking there justice in policing active twenty twenty reform bill is being well received even though some people say it doesn't even go far enough but at least it's starting the conversation and it's starting the conversation in the form of actual legislation we'll have legislation passed is that you know we're really just really in the infancy stages of this we we hadn't even been on the house or Senate floor for debate yet these are just proposals but it is going to turn into at least some sort of legislative debate and will become law again all those hurdles we talked about not the least of which by the way it is they expected this page Pierce resistance from the law enforcement community Z. entered them burnt live from Washington DC thanks and we appreciate it I appreciate you guys thank you when we come back this libertarian candidate that is going to be running for president yeah they just settled on her late last week she's a professor I know she's a she's a professor of psychology at Clemson.

talk about this season so i am always very excited when the survivors reach out to me that's a huge huge thing for me and it makes me excited that oh you wanna be here because i feel like i'm bothering everybody yeah absolutely you know i watched and listened to our hap- long before i was on survivor ever so it's always exciting to come you know a little bit more of the dream of not only getting to be on the show but still get to be a part of it it's a lot of fun okay well bradley excited to have you here a lot to talk about we got our survivor know it alls last night and you listen to listen to it in the car right here yes how stephen was is on point right stevenson good i think so yeah it's good like oh it are you going to hang out with stephen back now that he's in LA i don't so i've extend extend the olive branch and we'll see if we hang out and of course i had a exit interview with molly byman this morning did you ever just listed the molly i did not know but i kinda bad for her she's a law student in do that well okay well we wanna get your take on everything with molly and then our voicemail show's coming up over the weekend with shannon gates of russia get feedback questions in with shannon plus the wiggle room wiggle room you don't like to songs sicilia right yeah you got burnt on it there was a couple of like oh sanley sandler he's so dirtier annoying i was like i'm after say for anybody who's listening to the audio and not watching this video bradley has come right from work and looks very sharp yup yup i'm an attorney now better for worse so what happened so you went to survivor and i thought that you went to survivor because you had some second thoughts about going into fulltime lawyering was that sort of like that you're this you're amish room spring a i'm going to get away from law and then you had your your crazy time and now you're back yeah yeah kind of so yeah i hated loss both from two weeks then i turned around and ran away but nope i'm not going to quit i'm going to keep doing this and then it was amazing i got to go on survivor it was awesome there for eight weeks then went on what i referred to is like the world tour all sorts of other people riding my season for a couple of months after that and then i had to go back to law school for last year and it was devastating yeah really talking at one point you wanted to teach yup i still think teaching yeah i almost ended up working on the bachelor this season that started filming bachelor bachelor in paradise of regular bachelor regular bachelor what would you have done a story producer whoa look at you so i thought that would have been fun but in the end decided maybe that wasn't consistent enough so yeah right now i have a good job and it's fun enough i go to court a few days a week yeah young to the point where we're in front of the judges all the time and they know who i am and i you know a lot of fun is being a lawyer something that you could just like pickup pickup and stop doing like i think about things like if you having a like a skill like okay i can you know lawyer for six months and then i can do you something else or do you have to like once once you pick up being a lawyer you you need to stick with it you can't start and stop i think it's definitely a lot easier if you you picket cricket you keep going because you develop a lot of specialized knowledge right so in school and on the bar exam it's it's all generally you have to know everything but so what i do is trust and probate litigation in and trust and probate administration and so not jeff probst speight oh no i i i hope he has an estate plan otherwise sure i'll i'll drag his ashes through the probate court we'll get it through fire does represent life offend and have i don't even oregon okay so you're you're happy it's it's all good it's fun it's nice to be out of school for right now i mean there are things that i miss i miss not having the school schedule right i i came back from labor day and i was like gay gay new year here we go and everyone in the office it's almost the holidays what are you talking about you know in my mind first week september when everything slows back down and then all all summer travel all the time and everyone's how works in real life ryan so i'm i'm trying to adjust to that awful schedule of two weeks of vacation a year but for now it works and it's not bad i i like my coworkers and they make a drinking buddies after work so ooh fun time a russian guy brought a bottle of scotch door today because we're holding on to ten thousand dollars yeah he wanted them back so so yeah it's not a client but trying to buy one of our clients houses and so he thought he would give a scotch and exchange for his money and we'll take the scotch but we're gonna you're not drunk right now no no no god no i know i art to all right bradley let let's talk about what's going on here on the island of the idols did you enjoy a the first two episodes so far i did yeah i think the the the theme is ridiculously hokey but in highly entertaining way yes i mean it's just it it's amazing i don't know what robin sandra doing their quizzing wellcoll testing people the questions were very easy i could have answered them just following the two of them on facebook didn't get anything wrong in the in the questions submitted a little sad because one of the dogs died while she was there back excellent i was like wow i hope she doesn't real yeah all right p. real you knew then you look at us you yourself you post about these dogs on facebook friends with our yeah yeah what's sanders great so yeah i think it's it's funny the massive heads and met sandra before yeah yeah yeah where hearts of reality i did yeah yeah and what did she say bushy a fan of yours she was yeah luckily we had the same handler on the prematch trips oh i'm so he kind of yes connected oh you guys would get along yeah you're both cranky and like to be in charge about boston rob i've not met him yeah because it that'd be fun as this was pointed out to me that you a reference even boston rob fac in your were season i believe i have the clip i'm trying to play like a mosque or kim spradlin you know somebody that's got the numbers and he's in control and just needs just keep ducks in a row now it's something like you feel like that maybe that maybe it shouldn't be sandra's head is the other head there should it be kim oh yeah you you know according to ghost island bradley maybe that's the case but i have not my life volvo love sandra she has salty and calls a how she sees it and also did you watch the clip that survivor maybe posted on their instagram or something where they were talking about their backs hurting sleeping on the bamboo like oh we're getting too old for this and then like hobbled all down to the beach robin sandra larry's yes i'll look for that for the feedback really funny okay all right crazy vote last last night where it ended up being a molly being the target of the vote bradley what what did you make of this was this too much too to fast should they have taken the shore thing there with the voting out nora jason i mean i guess the answer would be of course yet you should have taken the sure thing if it didn't work but it worked and so i think lauren brilliantly she did a really good job of surveying the situation realizing that there were some people that thought they were on top and she can take people that were on the bottom and and make a move and i think it's something like molly is dangerous molly smart seemed like maybe there was a little problem getting along with everybody thinking she was a little bit better i may know a little bit about that and yeah so yeah she played from i think what her position russian wasn't a middle position and she rallied the troops and it was it was really fun to watch your if you're in the middle in this group of ten i know that in your navy tribe it was like there was no middle right it was a clear-cut five and five or where there are a lot of people that will could have gone either way not many people that could have gone either okay i mean we didn't vote so i i don't know how it would have shaken out right but that's i think the the accepted take it seemed like that in this group there was a three on one side and to on the other and maybe five people in the middle deciding which way they want it to go and it seems like for this vote they threw their lot in with jason and nora yeah it seemed like you know what i think that jason put a target on his back early enough and nor is just nuts in a really fun to watch kind of way yeah yeah that they're easy to keep along because they're either of them really a threat to do anything yet i mean jason potentially i could morph into somebody that that finds his own makes it pass his day one going look the idol and not socializing participating yeah yeah i i thought it was a good move yeah i thought it was definitely a fun move move i don't know necessarily what this looks like for this group the next time they have to go and vote somebody using go to bed and more less dangerous for them to keep molly then to vote nora i mean i think that certainly seems less dangerous yeah because you've got to figure that they're going to at some point they then you're going to go to three tribes that i mean that's typically what the i i hope that that's the hard part i love watching survivor and everything but the problem is when you swap constantly gently right we can sit here and we can talk about these scenarios but yeah if you just keep mixing people up constantly where's the
Weekend Racing Preview - Rosehill & Caulfield
"Group one rising everywhere so we're GONNA have contracts Coalfield Josie and Melissa to Sydney with your track report here. We'll stop because obviously it's a great bond. Rising on Saturday Ryo true good full lose hill a little bit of wing North North Easterly which will maintain its look. It's not going to have that much. Impact only fifteen ks but here. I think this is going to be a big advantage on spayed around Rosehill on Saturday and now we get to coalfield on Sunday at six. Mehta's good good for now windy speak of and again I think on Spain is going to be a huge advantage for shoot rices aimed for eight hundred plus the Emma. You've got to be on. I think they're going to be winning. Lots of rices absolutely group one racing tracks. GonNa Cover today but we got to Sydney first because that is the satellite. Let's have a look at the golden rose market. He People Act as your fiber. Currently it's free dollars exceedances sixty yard dash and yes yes yes yes at four hundred fifty. We we go from there. Cube Rick and Castle Vecchio both eleven dollars prints firewall twenty dollars passage twenty-six and others further further Josie the map match really important. I think probably the most important part of this race is a small field and I don't think they going to go fast Yale. Dash I think laid and he is where I think the rise can be one lost because I think maybe we can see at so. I just don't think horses and exceedances even Castle Vecchio had that early Gates Right Speight close enough and you in a slower on rice doesn't matter if you're not too far off them but when you go to host like bb Wack in front of you lost dot ran twenty to one eleven into lost four hundred loss two hundred and they couldn't catch him. I think this is gonNA sit up exactly locked at Yale Dash. Hey can laden. He's going to give a massive run as well as to. I think you're going to clear out and I just think the widest rice is going to be run. It sits up perfectly for BBC wacky got back to his best on the dry track. I think these treacle suit horses on Spe Kobe on with the Godolphin Blue Army to win the Golden R-ariz. Bv Wack Very Good Josie. Do you agree that's good as before no because he writes divert different pressure here. There's any tools is in this race that have won seven for the loans. That's Prince foul was it was terrible. I up and of course Kosovac and I want to talk about Kaseke. I because he's had an unusual preparation Russian coming into this race. He ran over fifteen hundred meters. I up with fifty eight. He got back on a die way. You couldn't really might grand and when he indeed when you go to the outside after being ridden CODA gain a flu and he showed the acceleration that I wanted to see adjust picked on these running saw the last fifty so he comes back an extra hundred meters fights while while like castell Vicki I was because this is a small field josie spike speed dash guy fold and dictate terms terms BIVOUAC with full. Don't pass each go forward and put some pressure on these horses in existence needs to come across us. Don't passage BIVOUAC and sit on those horses. This is a group one. These more pressure is tactical in this small field guy back and Watch Castle Vecchio when he sat when he drew and saw it and he set up on the speed when he when he's group one champagne. Hey Ken seek close. You don't have to draw net where he has to come back in Roy Court. He's only going to be three pays back a set. Nas and close when he want. He's a group one and he saw has run out of the fourteen hundred when he was thirty at to go back in a massive run once again and he has the acceleration tuna foot to seat off these pressure in a group one race ace be close enough this time and pick them apart light dropping back set whites drop from the fifty eight to sit whites a seats closer. He's drone bed up oil blocking and I can't believe the price that we're going to get castaway. Cay Ifa may cause he's proven at this four hundred hundred and he's absorbed this type of pressure group pressure beforehand so i WanNa wrote

That's a virtually untapped market for razor makers and those sales have to come from somewhere schick sells its razors through brick and mortar retailers and and those sales have been losing ground to online razor makers harry's and the dollar shave club of course schick parent edge well now owns harry's a shrewd move but the company is still trying trying to support chicks brick and mortar sales shit claims that people who shave their heads shaved three times as often as men who shave their beards and mustaches by targeting getting a market that looks on the face of it anyway to offer a ton of opportunity schick is trying to stave off gillette speight. The legacy razor company is so weekday its owner proctor and gamble runoff eight billion dollars from its books essentially that means p. and g. adjusted gillette's value downward citing what we already know that fewer men are shaving their facial hair just because those relatively few men who already shaved their head shave often however does not mean that ships bald important important people initiative will catch on will be able to transform baldness from frustrating too fashionable well. "speight" Discussed on Behind the Bets
"But yeah, I did not into Speight that. Because it wasn't X rated right. That kind of movie so that was a little uncomfortable. It's funny. So anyways, we do not have Bobby Bobby voice that scene. We have voice. Okay. So that's going to do it for this podcast special. Thanks to Jeff Sherman. And we will have like I said the NBA play-off podcast on Thursday. And honestly, there's nothing better than the first round the playoffs. Well like every day in the NBA season. And when we do that I round of the playoffs podcast on Thursday VAT, as when we're gonna unveil who it is the one a couple of t-shirts, he's still have a few days left. Yes. Oh my gosh. I forgot days left to get your pictures in at Doug ESPN. If you got pedicures send along a picture of it with a receipt or a newspaper or something showing that it did. "In fact, I, I can't believe that they did include that. It blows my mind that anyone would. I think anyone who has spent. I don't know five minutes on the internet would tell you there's no way that's going to end well, and I'm even reminded of when I got my first sound card in the nineteen nineties. It was a sound blaster sound card. It included. On it software an app called Dr Speight slow, which was essentially a variation on the old Elisa chat bot the Elisa chat bot would sort of mimic a therapist. So those chat bots essentially repeat stuff back to you, but they would do it in the form of a question. So if you typed in, I am angry. You might get a response like, why do you think you are angry? So it's, you know, going through this kind of process like like a old school therapist Dr Speights. So would do the same thing except Dr space. Oh, because it was part of a sound card would actually say these things not just type it. So it would say, why do you think you are angry anyway? One of the things you could do with Dr Speight Zo was make him say stuff. You could tell him to say certain words, including swear words. And since I was a young teenager at the time, I figured that was the height of both technology and comedy. So it was the exact same thing that was going on with take, except what was happening with today was on. On a much larger basis and got way worse than my somewhat uninspired teenager mind could handle, like, I didn't know most of the words that were being used against Tayo or make a made to take to repeat if that was all that was going on with TAY might have been possible for Microsoft to disable the repeat after me feature and keep the chat around, but things actually got a bit weirder. I'll explain that more in a second. But first, let's take another quick break to thank our sponsor. This episode is brought to you by Nord VPN. And if you've been listening to recent episodes of tech stuff, you heard me talk about VPN's and why they are important for your internet security. If you wanna make sure that your SP isn't tracking everything you're doing, whether it's a government agent or some hacker trying to spy on you. Maybe it's some sort of malware that's getting associated with your router. You can end up clearing out that router using this VPN service, and it will provide incredible protection..

"They felt like because of the experience coming back on defense even though a lot of those guys didn't start especially the guys up front they had played enough and they had made enough big plays there might not be as much of a drop off his people were thinking but on offense the reason i am disappointed is because when jim harbaugh first took that job i remember saying that based on his track record the one thing that i expected is that they would immediately get tougher on the line of scrimmage and they would get better at quarterback because that's what he's done everywhere where been heat those two things have happened quickly and i think they did in year one you know you saw michigan in those two areas get better immediately and that's why they were a really good team from the start and obviously really close to making a play off a year ago but to have seen them take a step back this year on the offensive line just there's not much there that you can you can really even say positive things about and then the quarterback play either with returning starter i think wilton speight is regressed in a lot of ways and then obviously last week it's tough to completely judge john oh corn on playing a game in weather like that but i think it is fair to say that the michigan offense is not nearly what they should be in year three under a coach you're so good analyzing stuff i mean this was a team that heads the fewest starters of any team and the fbi a serious returning starters or any team in the fbi but they had more bad when are we all.
