COTAXfinity Recap, Busch Wins
"Nascar xfinity series race recap from circuit of the americas over the weekend. Rain made this one interesting for sure. But kyle busch dominated. He led thirty five of the forty six lap event. Kyle busch spanks the field with an eleven second lead coming to the checkered flag. In his ninety eight th career win in this series I think we had a really good piece. Just overall talking with dinger kind of felt like drive off was probably our biggest thing that we excelled that today. Just being able to keep the rear tires on the car longer being able to get the gas pedal down to make a away longer. Instead of sitting there modulating the gas and kind of playing with it and wasting time to get down that was the biggest thing almoner behind me. He was the closest that could keep up with me for about two laps. But i was always in front of him when we were close to each other. So i didn't I didn't really see how well he was through the ss or You know through the slow section stadium section over there to see if that's if he can make ground on me there keep up with me there or whatever so Yeah that's probably about about it all right. Aj alma dinger ends up second followed by justin all our kevin harvick and austin syndrich rounds out the top. Five point standings like this five to one justin all daniel hamrick. Hendrick Motorsports Nears Petty Win Record After 1-2-3-4 Result
"Hendrick motorsports the first one two three four finish for hendrick in its team history. Only the fourth time in cup history. That's been done in the first and the cup series since rosh benway racing team. You have some knowledge of two thousand five at the season finale at homestead miami speedway so just to give you a little context henrik has only been a four car team since two thousand and four so i one two three four finishing essentially seventeen years. I that they've been able to do that but you know what's your first reaction to that. When you hear the hendrick motorsports for the first time ever in what thirty. Seven years of history has a one two three four finish. Well i think about is two years ago when we were talking about. What's wrong with hendrick right. And we we. We had this expectation level of hendrik. That's pretty high. We expect to see them contending for championships winning the lottery to me to me. In the era that i raced in hendrick was the most dominant team out there and that faded faded over time and it was. They didn't jump right back into it. They had to work themselves back into it. And now here they are and they also invested you. Think about what they did. They invested in a lot of youth right so took brought a lot of young drivers and that has cultivated into a very young team with a lot of winners on it heading into right direction. This is the opposite of what we were talking about. Two years ago. I think hendrick motorsports is repositioning themselves to be dominant force. They won the championship last year. We chase elliott now chase elliott. That hasn't wanna raise this year and alex bowman's want to i know chase elliott fans. Think well that's not good but it is good if the guy that won championship you last year is the guy. That's not winning this year and everybody else has stepped it up. That's a good thing. Now they've chase elliott rezoning twentieth every weekend. That what that's not chase elliott's running okay. He's not been winning expecting to do. But but that's a good problem for a team to have. It's almost impossible to have all four clicking. You know what i mean. It's really really difficult. But i just i just i think a reversal of where we were two years ago. That's the first thing that pops in my brain

"The johnson and johnson co vaccine became more widely available today but there are many people willing to take it and across the country growing signs of hesitancy to take any vaccine at all in some areas that means fewer people are signing up for a shot where there is plenty of supply contrast all that with the increasing cova crisis in india where they desperately need more treatments and vaccines the world health organization now calling on countries with excess to send it there. "A Kenny Rogers in it, and it was about him and a bunch of kids that would travel around this RV and race He's a race driver and I don't remember a whole lot about the plot now, but I must seen the movie. A dozen times is just been. You know thirty five years since I've seen it. That's the problem, but. But it was always on cable back in the early nineteen eighties and I remember watching that one also another thing that I find can fast maiden. Is that former president? Jimmy Carter was a ticket taker at this very track, which kind of makes sense I mean? It's a it's southern Georgia right. That's where he's from at the time. Of course, he wasn't known as former US president he was. Just someone coming up through the ranks at that point, but it says Jimmy just Jimmy. And later it was you as he was governor of of Georgia, and later later as US president, he attended a couple of races there, so it's kind of a big deal. And then later much later in two thousand seventeen, there was a heist comedy film called Logan Lucky which I have never heard of it. To, look that one up, but the Atlanta. Motor speedway Kinda stood in for the Charlotte Motor speedway and guess that you know you know the ways works. It's like some kind of tax, break or something to shoot down here. Probably that makes sense. I mean you save so much money and also everybody who is familiar with Atlanta? The Atlanta Metro area is noticing that more and more you watch, dot any marvel film now, and if you're familiar with this city at all, you'll be able to say hey, that's not London. That's my house. That's that's actually that's what they were doing. Doing there? Yeah, yeah, you know it's funny. You'll see you know movie productions. The black off entire city blocks Ah-ha and you'll find that it. This is one thing that I think we talked about a maybe a couple of years ago now, but as coming down past the the Fox theater in downtown on one of the many peachtree street, so we have, and there was a whole section blocked off by I think it's the Livingston. Hotel is a big beautiful hotel with a great grand porch and everything. It's a big stone building. Really impressive, right? They're doing a movie scene outside. And there's all these taxicabs parked out front I. Mean like fifty taxicabs parked outside and they've all got I. Think I think it was New York taxi cab service written on the side of them. It's pretty close because they have a lot of events going on there. And when when Kurt and I were there, they were talking about how they have a drag racing event that happens on the on Friday. Friday night L., Friday nights. Okay, but in summer right? Yeah, it's really it's not like what you would think it's. It's not like you know a Christmas tree event. It's like somebody waves their hand. You know flag with their hand, and and that's the drag race long. It's kind of like an old school event. We really kind of cool, and that happens on the The pit road I believe. I think it's just kind of a I i. don't know how it works. If you have to sign up to go or whatever, but look into a checkout, the Atlanta Motor speedway website, and you'll be able to find out more information about how to get there and actually drag your own personal car if you want. "Big without obstacles in the middle of it so. We've got the Infield of course with to twenty three thousand square foot garages. We've got a fuel station. We've got an Infield Care Center. We operate legend cars of Georgia. which is legend's and band Leros manufacturer, so we're. We're running another racing program out of our speedway every year. Our Thursday thunder will race about twenty races a year. We've got our Friday night drags programs, so we dragged right down pit road. So while most of it looks like open fields throughout the day to us. It's it's so much more of the play stays very active, and it takes a lot upkeep. If it weren't for the hard work of our operations department, we would have had to repave some time ago. We're always closely watching the track and see and how the weather's changing the track. We did as I said earlier, we have a bunch of different events that take place, but as it relates to the full mile and a half, our operations department. Every year applies a compound. In this year we went to a new compound called ticks. Oh Fall. and. It's basically a compound that you put into any cracks that you might have where the seams of the track may be coming apart. They put it in their. Bake it in and ticks. Fault is actually a flexible compound, so it's really really cold or if it's really really hot, it can move as the asphalt moves, and hopefully will see positive results out of it. "Besides Atlanta Motor speedway's old surface the. The tracks layout is rather unique in its own right. You gotTA understand it Atlanta Motor speedway. You're going through the corners. Two thirds of the time turns a half miles each their straightaways or quarter mile back. In the early days. We had a couple of different tire. Companies involved in the sport, so compounds were little more on the edge, and that led to some the failures that we saw. Good years a great company to now that they're the lone tire builder. We don't have those issues at all. But what happened was after a couple of events they actually brought Bobby Labonte Jeff Gordon and mark. Martin in and ran simulated racist I mean full tire runs, and actually one time. They went about hundred miles straight. And through that series of tests, they found the compound that really worked and handle the side bite, which would have been the problem, and since then tires haven't really been that much of an issue, but you have to build a tire to match the track surface air-traffic surface. It's ugly. If you look at it, there's nothing beautiful about it. If you drive it, it's wonderful. But they build a tire that gives up some which the drivers like. But will last full fuel. Stop and that's what you won't Gastel, may they have? satires role in the car out to pit road to get ready to go on the track here the track so abrasive, but that's also why they love it. And, it's not universal. We do a voice to the fans study after every race. and. Say the comments back now. Regarding the surface is. Close to fifty fifty fifty percent want us to repave because they wanna, say fast speeds, and and what that may bring in the other fifty percent, says absolutely don't touch it and. That fifty percent probably has their opinion because that's what their favorite drivers say, the repair process becomes longer and longer every year because we continue to get more and more cracks. If you, look at it. It looks like somebody that was on Iraq and had a bunch of stitches. I mean we have repaired and patched and. We've got patches on patches, but you know at the end of the day. If you get a good product out of it, it doesn't matter how pretty it is. So we'll continue evaluate each and every year after the event. At some point, we'll say yeah, it's time. I think at that time. The teams goodyear. NASCAR speedway motorsports our company. Will probably be an agreement. It's okay it's. It's time to do this for now. Atlanta Motor. speedway is revelling in the fact that their race tracks providing a worthy testing ground for competitors whilst the minting its place NASCAR history. You never know when it's time the obviously. I'm the one that had that repaving. We didn't repay. It appears now to three years later that it was the thing that they did. Leave it as it was. This surface is going to have a life. It's probably used it up. But the good thing is we haven't had water issues after a rain. That is delighted race or we had last year and started on time and. As long as we can do that logistically, there's no reason not to repay, but we we're GONNA have to at some point, and the teams will go through the the challenge of being back on what at that point will be the fastest track NASCAR, and how they deal with the speeds, and and all the issues that the extra speed ranks. As a race track surface ages and changes the tracks characteristics morph into something different, enabling the track to become a unique character in the story at the end of the day were in the entertainment business, so as Ed said as long as the track surface holds up and provides an entertaining package for our fans. That's what it's all about so. NASCAR and speedway motorsports really more than ever are working in lockstep on how we entertain the fans because again. That's the most important thing that we think about is the fans experience so hopefully we'll get a few more races out of it, but you never know the couple of years ago. We were of the mindset that all right. We're GONNA repave after this race so now it's a hot topic of conversation every time this time of year rolls around. Are they going to repay? When are you gonNA repave. Why aren't you GONNA repave? Please don't repave. repave so it just adds to the allure of one of the most historic iconic tracks on the Nascar circuit, and what exactly does it take to keep Atlanta Motor speedway in tip top racing shape? We've got an operations team about twelve guys and they're on the track every day. Are they actually doing something to extend the life of the track every day? Certainly not, but we're taking really close tabs on the track surfaces doing as you know in our sport. Water is not a good thing, so we're always trying to do everything we can to. Figure out where the water's coming from route, those water channels away from from the track itself. They're calling for rain later this week, so you can rest assured that when the rain stops, we're looking for new weeper 's areas where waters come may be coming up through the track, but we've been very fortunate over the last couple years because of their work and determination to really extend the life of this track that. We don't really have many water issues, but the team will go out there as we talked about for about a month in the fall to seal any cracks, but absolutely throughout the week they're out there taking a look and just see and what might need to be done to extend the life as long as possible. The surface would not have lived this long. We started that very early on after paving. thank. We always targeted the first week of October because it's a dry period. The reason asphalt doesn't last at race. Tracks are a lot of tracks have to be repaved as moisture gets underneath the track you get freezing, and that creates a heave so now you've created a bump. And we just don't have those lumps in bumps that that the driver still are amazed at how smooth air surfaces. And, that's because we religiously went year after year and seal this thing up both behind the outer wall and on the trackside, just to make sure that moisture didn't get underneath phrase and we've actually had people come from other tracks other NASCAR tracks to look at what we've done to seal air track and ask us about what our program is because they're kind of astounded that literally at any surface can last this long. Who which is a great compliment, our team? It's a testament to how hard they. They work and that's the same group of people we've got additional part timers, but that's the same group of people that take care of eight hundred fifty acres, so it's not just a mile and a half track surface that they're interested in. They're interested in every nook and cranny of this place. It's a massive footprint.

"And asphalt patches, and it was just. It looks like a mess. It really does yeah, but when drive on it, it's relatively smooth and I know that that's not a race car. That has almost no suspension. Know as the body flexes about all it's got. So I know it's a lot rougher when you're in a race car, but we could barely feel anything when you're going around the track and the only time that I felt anything. And I thought this was really telling or not telling but. Rather is when we got to the The start finish line and we cross remember. We crossed the The logo that was painted on the attract surface. No, yeah at the Atlanta Motor speedway logo and the weird thing about this is that the logo has is probably the original logo. The track was built in nineteen. Sixty I think it was opened in nineteen, sixty built in nineteen, fifty eight. I would believe in a maybe this is not true, but it seems like they've just been adding and adding and adding to that paint since about nineteen sixty because then paint. That was the roughest part of our whole trip. then. Yeah, we're driving around and like every time we cross the start finish line full. Yeah, it was like is really rough, and it was just that giant logo. The painted on the track surface. The rest of it was, it was like not glass smooth, but it was smooth wastes moving. You think and so we get out of the truck. We get out of the the. US to kind of like you know. We're GONNA their word there to talk about the track surface we get out and Kurt and I are both kind of like kneeling down, and like rubbing her hands on the pavement and overdoing. Goofy right were feeling. It's a little bit rough. It's a little bit. You know. It's not as smooth as I thought it would be, but I went to the paint because I knew that felt weird and looked at it and I realized like over the years the layer after layer after layer that had been built up that paint had created kind of the original, and it was like it was definitely raised logo and it's. For sure the roughest part of that whole track, and besides what you would see you know all right. It looks like the whole thing's kind of again kind of a mess, but the paint is definitely the worst part, or you know how it is when when you think about fixing something like that. Why would you fix that paint? If you know you're already gonNA, fix the track as a matter of fact in twenty nineteen Motor speedway started to apply some some fixes to the cracks in the pavement. Yeah, they. They use this stuff called ticks. Oh fate odd. Yeah, you know what that's going to be brought up a little bit later in the interview. Yeah, yeah, this. What's it called? It's called ticks fix. Fault takes a fault and I think, Brandon. Hutchinson will mention this in the interview later about this type of product, and what it does and I've I've watched a couple of videos about ticks. Fault is Stroz strange like they put it on a piece of it looks like a piece of tile right when they put the ticks fall down, it repels the water. It pushes it away. You can see it physically the water away. Which is Kinda? Cool like? There's tiny hands just. Yeah exactly. That's it. It's as pushing it away. It's like a little squeegee or something that's not moving away and and Brandon will talk about the ticks Felton, and what that's all about, but you know another thing he mentions and again this will come up during the interview, but. There's very few people that actually are involved in the preservation of this whole thing right and it's not just the track surface. It's the whole facility which is enormous is eight hundred fifty square acres, and it's just twelve people that are maintaining the track and all of this property, and it's incredible to able to do this. Because like the surface, itself is really really knepper steen, but pretty darn close I mean they're really really good at what they do. Yeah and Brandon and an ED. We're both very very complimentary about the whole team in what they do to keep you know, keep on top of this whole thing and you know as far as the feedback from the drivers. Lot of drivers are really happy with the services. Well, they love it. Yeah, they want it to be repaid. No, some of them are. Kind of excited by the by the challenge of it, I guess driver Clint Boyer said that it's one of the reasons. ATLANTA. Motor speedway is one of his favourite racetracks. We have a quote from them. The worn out surfaces the best. I hate repave I. Get excited when we go there. The speed how the tires fall off higher able to run all over the race track. Make it great, and then another another driver Ryan Blaney says it's definitely a handful. It definitely makes you work hard and search route constantly, which is a lot of fun. It's an incredible facility. It really is and and Kurt. When you and I went there, there was so much more to. To it than I thought, there was now we'll get to the interview in just a few minutes. I promise you. We're going talk to Ed and Brandon and hear what they have to say, but I guess I did not expect this I didn't read up on it ahead of time. I should have I should have like really studied about what it was about but I. didn't understand that they're actually condos on the property. You can buy a condo that faces the track itself so that when if you own one of these properties? Their forty six Konno's that I think have been around since about nineteen ninety four, and if you own one of these forty six condos. You have essentially track front property. You're able to watch a race anytime. It happens, but you gotta live there all year. Probably somebody has decided that during race weekends. I'm going to show up to this condo and live there. My friends, and you know we'll have the essentially. The box seats may be retired. You know and you want to go during specific races, but I don't. I don't know if there's someone who lives there you know as like that's their main Domus, possibly, amy. Maybe it was a cool thing to do. Maybe it's still is i. mean it is a cool thing. Get is, but you know you gotta drive into this facility first of all I. It's in It's kind. kind of a rural area camped in Georgia secret. Look Up. Hampton Georgia and see where that is, and that's one thing I. Guess is kind of out of the way it's again about an hour south of Atlanta. Then you gotta drive into this eight hundred and fifty Acre facility. Then you've got park on the you know the facility property and imagine what that's like..

We finally got out in the field and we're able to do some interviews. Which I thought was pretty cool. We've done that in the past been many many years ago, right? We went out to a couple of car shows and things like that caffeine and octane. We also went to we. We've seen some exhibits of some pretty impressive cars. Now. When you say you went to the field, you and Kurt went to field because I was off doing something sketchy. Which I think you're out on vacation as some actually not a vacation. It's probably worked trip right? You were I. Think you're on the West Coast? That might have been when you're at the Peterson. Museum. Oh, yet you know what about your right? So I think you were like out cover that we were covering this kind of worked out well that you know we're older to do two things at one time. The Kurt I traveled about I. Guess is off what forty five maybe an hour south of where we're located right? Right now in this in the studio and we went to Atlanta. Motor speedway and there's an unusual situation. Now it a situation that really situation, but there's an unusual thing happening at Atlanta Motor speedway. That's not happening at many other NASCAR tracks on the circuit right now, and that's what we wanted to talk about right? That's right Scott, so we went to Atlanta Motor speedway and spoke with Ed Clark. WHO's the president there and we also talked to Brandon Hutchinson. He's the Executive Vice President and general manager of Atlanta Motor speedway. To get some information about their racing surface, it's very old, and they have very consciously made the decision not to pave it if I'm not mistaken Atlanta Motor speedway is either the oldest or the second oldest. I'm not sure track surface on the entire NASCAR circuit right now, and that's kind of a big deal because we're talking about a surface right now. That is about twenty three years old. Now put that into perspective. Think about how often you know. The the the local roads are paved. He around your area. We're talking about a nascar racing surface that they have left in place for over two decades now and they've talked many times. I'll say threatened, but it's not really threatened. They've talked about repaving this many many times in fact, the President Ed Clark and even Brandon talked about many times paving the surface, but what happens every time as they go to the drivers and the drivers say maybe not so fast. Maybe should hold off on because we like coming here. It's a big endeavor to make no bones about it right. The punishing environment of Atlanta is not kind to asphalt. No, I mean. It's nothing like in the north where there's like the freeze thaw cycle, or whatever but Atlanta's got the heat. It's got a lot of heat and there's a lot of rain, and apparently from what we garnered from the the interview that will. Will We'll get to later. We're GONNA have a lengthy interview in its entirety in just a moment I think that rain is one of the major factors in the deterioration of a track surface in a lot of times in a water will well up from underneath the track and kind of degrade or a ruin the track that way you know, there's like a like A. As I say it percolates through the cracks and the track, and were at the track Kurt and we'll talk about this in just a moment because I want to talk about the day we went there and what happened there. This is pretty fascinating is fun. But when we actually got to ride on the track and a lot of patches and lot of it's, it's not like it's a perfect surface. They're in no way. In fact, it's the opposite. It's re-. It's a really patched together. And Service. One of the most interesting things that I found was how rough it looks, versus how smooth the actual track is as far as dips and bumps year aren't many of those. Is relatively smooth rolling over. It is just I suppose it's just abrasive. Due to the aware of the asphalt over the years. Right, so you're talking about like when okay. Here's here's what happened and we should just lead into this song. I really do feel like we should. Because when we got there, we were there on a non race day. Of course you know as a as an off day for them. And of course there's a lot of operations going on in the office, and there's a lot happening there, but we had somebody that helped us out on track and able to drive US around a couple of laps and kind of give us a feel for the way the trek felt and we were in. What was it a Chevy Blazer maybe? A LATE MODEL SUV. He has a brand new like bright red. It looked like a you know. A fire engine Red Suv was pretty cool, but you know it has a streetcar suspension, so I was thinking like. This is a little bit soft. Anyway will not be able to feel a whole lot, but it was surprisingly smooth, and we got on the track. I mean it took a long time to get onto the track itself you know under the tunnel, and through the you know. The maze of turns and twists had to go through to get onto the track which road course they have course. Partially on the road course I, guess right at that point, but table to be able to get on the track, and then to be able to go. A couple laughs in the track at maybe I think we were going about seventy or eighty miles. An hour wasn't like top speed or anything, but we were able to kind of feel the track surface in looking at it. It looked like it was going. Going to be a lot rougher than it was it in looked like again. I keep saying this word bill is like a patchwork of tar and asphalt patches, and it was just. We're GONNA their word there to talk about the track surface we get out and Kurt and I are both kind of like kneeling down, and like rubbing her hands on the pavement and overdoing..

"Fun. When you hear people talk about going to your website <hes> as much as people do so. That's it makes me feel good. Let's get into <hes> this weekend. It's it's kinda. Big the guy here <hes> yeah just a little bit. I mean you normally have the prestige you normally have the history that goes along with brickyard but now there's another added layer to that. Yes a added layer of the onion this is this is the the playoff. Will it all here. The regular season ends here in the playoffs begin after afternoon appaluse. That'll be a fun twist. I think they needed it because we built it up year after year after year. Oh it's about the history it's about the prestige d._j. And then the race fell flat yeah yeah no. I totally agree now. It's like well. They're they gotta get done. I mean somebody could win this thing and propel themselves into the playoffs. Yeah i mean you're looking at guys like jimmy. Johnson heck even chris butchers on a pretty good tara. All of a sudden you have one of these guys sneaks up and in and takes it and and this throws things way off if that happened so <hes> a lot to a lot to raise for here in indianapolis this week one team team that you might want to keep an eye on joe gibbs racing. They've won three of nascar's biggest races in twenty nineteen. <hes> kicking the season off with denny hamlin at the daytona five hundred mark insurance tricks junior then took checkers at the coke six hundred charlotte and then of course <hes> last weekend eric jones winning the southern five hundred at darlington so <hes> <hes> this weekend indianapolis motor speedway one of the most prestigious race tracks in all the world. I have a feeling we could see j._r. Car run very strong. There are maybe and with a number eighteen on it possibly no way yeah. He's known to run strong in two years in a row. He did <hes> one of those years being the year. He won the championship so <hes> he he's definitely always stout when we go to when we go to indianapolis there's something about actually indianapolis drivers that win there air and eventually win the cup. It's th there's a stat in there somewhere yeah a lot of times. The person who wins the brickyard ends up either going to win the championship or pretty close and i be you know even with the current playoff format as hard as it is to predict things.

"This is the final lap weekly on final lap with us. Today is matt di benedetto eto coming up at amazing weekend at bristol motor speedway. Welcome to the program once again. Thanks for having me all right. <hes> few days of past things have settled down <hes> take us through those closing laps. They must have been thrilling for you. I am so sad afterward not be able to get my guys that victory lane but <hes> oh man it was crazy. We had such a good car. We worked. I you know and my crew chief wheels. We are you know working on it and getting it better throughout the night and then win unaccounted we i mean mail that he made the perfect adjustment and if fired off like a rocket there at the end and and we were able to drive from fourth and grabbed the lead lead and then <hes> you know got up there and and held it off and then <hes> i thought was coming down the closing laps you know danny was obviously he was fast <hes> but we were you know we could you know when i got some clear racetrack. We could match my laptop and i'm like okay. I think we're all right and we maintained around a second leap for for a while. There and i'm like guard i think we're we're good and then <hes> i was catching newman to lap him and i knew that was gonna be a tough obstacle to overcome and i knew i could get by him. Quick back <hes> that that would put him in between me and denny and and there was clear racetrack out there in front of him so i knew like all right if i get in front of him where we're home clear and the steel <hes> <hes> we got it <hes> and then obviously <hes> you know there was contact there when i got to the outside stuff me and that that cost us the shot so stunk dunk put you know it's just a start racing and everything has to go your way for free to get the win. That's for sure that's for sure why is newman so hard to pass. Why is he so stubborn. The races and i watched him since i was a kid. You know everybody's always known that about new at. He's just one of those guys that he doesn't discriminate so he does it to everybody. Races just <hes> really hard and racing hard is <hes> you know that's that's racing <hes> so it's not like you complain about is just <hes> <hes> you know everybody has their different outlooks on situations situations like that i try and <hes> you know if the reverse situation i try and just be courteous about dictate tate the outcome of a race and i try and gain respective everybody that i'm racing around because when it is the flip situation you know then you know that that they can a pay you back and paid dividends for earning respect of others and that's how i try and do it just doesn't have that outlook and that's just how he's always been in that <hes> you know nothing i can complain about. It's just <hes> you know. Everybody has their different theories and outlooks on how to race all right so nothing personal. I guess hey you you went ahead and did the upstanding thing and visited victory elaine <hes> with denny hamlin there. How'd that go does awesome dinnie the i've i've told people as i don't know if anyone could possibly ever understand how how genuinely good of a person that danny is see. He's <hes> he actually sponsored by race car when i drove for go fast racing thirty two you a couple of years ago and got because he did that. It's spread the word <hes> reaching out to corporate america because we were unsponsored <hes> and for race and approach actually throws a curve ball and sponsored our car and it created a crazy story and we got a primary sponsor out of it. I think a poker at the time for six audience's <hes> and that <hes> and that was that was big for our race team and for those guys and that's the kind of person that danny is i and when i went up there to victory lane that's the memory that all field remember for the rest of my life and he's somebody i have so much respect for i went up there and talk to him.

It's it's gonna be exciting. You know indianapolis is is prestigious in its own right and when they had the the the race during the regular season it's still in the regular season but now it's got a lot more meaning meaning we always talked about the prestige and the history and all that stuff and sometimes the race fell flat now you've got all that stuff the prestige asian and everything that goes along with indianapolis motor speedway and and the history and all that stuff and now they've added another layer another layer to the racing that you know it's playoff playoff time you you gotta go for the win if you don't have one and you got to maintain your points if you're you're right there on the bubble we'll talk about all that later on in the program so lots lots going on in the world of nascar racing but to last week and darlington speedway darlington south carolina the track too tough to tame the lady in black black and home of three wide racing. Did you see that how exciting was that race. So cool you know in in pass races that the history history of that particular track it was up on the wall and that's your groove single file. You gotta run next to the wall. You gotta do it. Kyle larson style this year. It seemed to be <hes> passing all over the race track so a very delayed start because of the rain i mean it was it was coming down. It didn't look like this race was gonna go go at all <hes> but it did <hes> late sunday evening into monday morning as when the checkered flag finally flew so a double day of racing <hes> so that's that's pretty cool. Fans stayed packed house. Lots of lots of fans actually decent t._v. Ratings are checking this. I don't know if you if you caught this but the tv ratings for nascar <unk> have steadily.
"speedway" Discussed on NASCAR on NBC
"This is a change this year Marcus for Charlotte Motor Speedway next year. We're certainly looking at the possibility of the drafting package being used it at number of NASCAR races in Charlotte, Motor Speedway being one. Where do you see things unfolding for twenty nineteen on that front? Are you expecting that for the six hundred week? I am optimistic and based on all the fan feedback that we've had. I think the fans are hopeful. I know you may get some hate mail. I might get some, you know that some art, but I can't please everybody all the time. I learned that quick aside. I learned emphatically that you can't please everybody all the time when we put in speedway TV it all Motor Speedway. The biggest TV in the world. This amazing, you know, element of fan fan amenities at the track. We actually got complaints from a few from just a few very few people, but some people actually complained that it was other too bright or they couldn't see it. You know, from where they were sitting and it was it just sort of certified that? Yes. In fact, you can't please everybody all the time. So so that being a fact, I think that the drafting packages you call it, it works so great for the all star race. If that happens for next year, I'm really optimistic about this year with the exception of Michigan. Seems like there've been some great racist lately. Vegas was awesome because it was great trucks, expanded Cup, fantastic, raising all weekend in Cup. I mean, Indianapolis, I, that was good. It was good. Bristol was excellent. So I wonder as you make the case for, let's move to a different rules package. Does that case get harder to make Marcus or does NASCAR maybe need to have more trepidation about ruling this out at too many tracks next year given that it seems like the current package? I mean, like you said Vegas when if your tracks, I mean, would you wanna see the drafting package now? Vegas. Given how? Well, last week's playoff opener win. I would. I would. I think NASCAR as a sport. If you look back over the decades changes are part of the sport. And there's a lot of benefit with throwing some new challenges at the teams. The smartest people will figure out the package and the new rules faster than than others that just happens over time. And so have you think about NASCAR is the only sport where the competitors as part of the expected competition work to get around the rules, right? Whatever you call it, get around the rules, usurp the rules do things that take advantage of the rules they're given, and you know, no other sport is like that basketball football a line is align. The ball is the ball. You know, the NASCAR version of NBA would be that one team spends millions of dollars to invent a laser-guided system that always puts the ball in the hoop, right? And if the book didn't say, you can't do that, then boom. You know, every other team has to spend millions and millions of dollars on the laser guided system. Obviously, he's not going to happen in MBA, but NASCAR. If you can do that, that's part of the rule. That's just the way it is that in racing, generally that's kind of how it works. So if you'd be set the rules and you never went back to adjust them, how fast is too fast, you know, eventually you've got to sort of pull back the the rules and reset and let the challenge start again. And I think that's kind of the way that NASCAR has to officiate the game. They have to stay one step ahead even when the racing's really good. Yeah, you have to stay whether it's stay one step ahead or just sort of wipe the slate clean and say, start again, you know, and here's a new challenge to go at and of course the the smartest folks, the people that have, you know the most inside and development with their with their team. Teams, we'll figure it out again and and that will sort of the the cream of the top. Not only do we have the wroval here markets, but we've also got a new touch..
