Elliot Seguin: Test Pilot

"Did you get an aviation? grew up in a flying family My Dad had assessment semi to for most of my childhood than than I guess when I was pretty young for remember you bought a swift and we had swift grown up in that timeframe when you start getting into get into cars, 'cause you WanNa get into girls He's hot rod out at swift. He put a big motor in it and set some records with and. It was the perfect sendoff to will not playing with Clark's. Their place instead. That is awesome and you've had a great career after a growing up aviation as an engineer being a part of a lot of special programs aviation. How did you progress into a professional aviation career? yes. So The big thing was me and you he he was a pilot but just for So it was a big thing in the family that for me to even think about making money with aviation I didn't really have a good model for that. So establishing that model really came down to two guys. One was my uncle Berle who was a mechanic and the other was a guy named Dave Grohl who restored A spearman's and t six is just down the road from the airport where I learned to ride my bicycle. So between those two guys, they sort of established that model for how you could. Use Airplanes to to make your money rather than just spend it, and that's that the sugar trajectory that led to the rest of it. That is awesome. So l. it you have a really cool company name was Sabi flight test was Sabi erasing how did that name come about? Yeah. So we're enough we were eating Sushi right No, but So we we did come up with the name eating Sushi. We were looking for a name for the for the race plane are we had bought our cast it project that happened to be green and I was looking for a name that would tie the the color of the airplane to the branding and would also fit well on the side of the airplane. Right there's like that aspect ratio between the. Pilot's seat back bulkhead in the front of the Horizontal Stab, you WanNa kind of that space efficiently as possible So between that and you know having a lot of. It was going to be fun for fun to say this is a really engineering response. Sorry about that. But that was where we came up with with Sabi unfortunately now, we're stuck with it so. So tell us a little bit that company. Yeah. So I think you Kinda Kinda. Talk about Michael Brawl in in Dave right back in. Michigan. Right and so you sort of like I'm GonNa make money with aviation like what does that look like you're trying to figure out like how to set those sites right sort of doing bookwork get engineering degree like how's it all add up to what end up in in Muhabi at scaled right so quickly that that Idea becoming an engineer on aviation engineer on airplanes to like like, can you fly like what it's like test like that's like a really exponential curve right? We go from like WHOA can I make money with airplane to like oh? Wow. Like Mike Millville is like a high school trained like NPR slash astronaut that is the coolest thing ever, and how do you like do that right? Well. It turns out like other people coming up with that same thing at the same time. So there was like a handful of us at scale and really at the Mojave airport that we're all sort of competing for like you know who was GonNa the the visualization was that. Somebody was going to have to sit in the right seat of those spaceship flights somewhere between like yeah. Melville was going to get the first flight you know Pete or whatever but it was gonna be some flights before customers were in the right seat in the back seat and that Steve was gonna you know some get bored and they were going to put someone there and you would have a chance to be an astronaut supersonic all reversible controls rocket engine like everything flying the world's greatest Hondo. So, creating a path to make yourself competitive for that in this environment like mojave work for spaceship one before they should wonder but voyageur Mohammed was desolate. There was nobody really after spatial won the place got like flooded with talent. So. There's all these guys that are buying for my spot. I want that spot, right so I go to work as hard as I can all day but the other day there's slow there's time left the end of the day. What am I gonNA, do with it, and that's where we saw became came down to right. So whether it was with air racing or helping a friend developed with a platform whatever I can subsidize my flight test activities with a full time job, and then ideally I don't have to. Be With the Siren headed like design the airplane builder my wife working you know basically two fulltime jobs to get things done as you move to where you're doing that more and more professionally like just not happening to build the airplane is such a huge benefit independent of whether or not I get paid or not right. So if you can use that full-time job to subsidize the back end, that's where it was Sabi allows me to build that resume that hopefully makes me competitive remember you know the the sort of the end of the the civilian test pilot dream scale was when they started bringing in More and more military trust train test pilots, right military test pilot right and it's two million bucks to make him a fighter pilot. Then you drop another million to two million to make him a test pilot that's what you're competing with as a civilian, right so high, you get that experience. So I have to like give away my time at least I didn't have to build all those airplanes to get the experience and that's what the the basis of Assab years. Right. I have to make a silly youtube video or do some engineering build an airplane whatever it is to the flight test experienced resume because that's First of all sort of unforgettable experience in second ball. That's what we're passionate about. So so that's You're

"Well for the first time in our nation's history a state legislature has a majority of female lawmakers, fifty one percent of Vata's state legislature are women far exceeding the fifteen percent some states like Mississippi and West Virginia CBS's Jamie Yuccas talked with some of that as new majority who are pushing for change in the halls of Nevada State capitol. It's hard not to notice. There's a wave of women. They're young women who look at the wall of our country's presidents and think no one looks like me. And they can look to Nevada say, wow. So many of them look like me. Senator Ivana can sell says the new majority has propelled female focus legislation. She's behind a Bill passed earlier this month protecting a woman's access to abortion and removes the requirement of asking, whether she's married or not. The Latest in U.S. Legislation

"And Tom Paula calluses on the phone talking talking us through the this year session and new bills at are out. And what's happening? So Tom you wanna finish up before we went to break a couple just to to remind listeners that there's a great website, WWW dot L, E, G dot state dot N, B got US. That's the legislative council bureaus of the legislature's website. And you can go there. It's very user friendly do search for whatever topic that you're interested in and you'll find the Bill there. It's just a fabulous resource for citizens dealing with the the water issue. There's an interesting Bill coming up AB two. Sixty five which would require the desert research institute to study water treatment and recycling so of interest of the conservation community, and then just keep in mind. There's also the again going back to the economic benefits we have a b three thirty one which would create an office about recreation and a grant program to help boost our tourism industry in the outdoor recreation area. So a lot of bills others that are dealing with conservation measures in general. So again, I just encourage people if you've got a particular interest not uniquely on conservation issues, but everything's up there on that. Let's cancel bureau website, and a great resource, you can put your opinion on bills directly online. Find your legislators contact information and to plug into the whole decision making process up in Carson city. That's right. Find your Bill track at follow it participate be a member of sustainable society. Things you said going to break was when you save electricity. You save on water. And what's interesting is. Conversely, that's true as well. So when you save on water also save on electric city because people don't think about well, if you're saving some water, you're saving water. That's great. But you also saving the pumping of that water. So there's a lot of lectures, e goes into getting that water delivered to people's faucets. Excellent point. So other things happening in the legislation. When do we expect to see some of these bills voted on well today, we'll be a big day again for a major advancement in clean energy with SP three fifty eight against shut up to Senator Chris Brooks? He's been moving that advancing that concept ever since he's been in the legislature starting off as an assemblyman. So again wanna recognize some of the folks that have. Kudos to the entire legislature. As it did move forward unanimously. But a couple of folks have been working at it for a long long time. Also to various groups that have supported us such as Nevada conservation league and others that have been really just getting the word out explaining the benefits later this week. Again, we have a b four sixty five that is coming up. So that is the Bill that would provide expanded solar access program and facilitate solar getting to lower income neighborhoods and an opportunity for lower income consumers to get some savings from solar. So those are bills that are coming up this week again, there's an opportunity to support or to voice your opinion. One. Also, go back to the electric school bus issue. That was again, Senator Chris Brooks working in conjunction with Senator Pat Spearman and trying to get more electric transportation on the roads specifically in the school sector, which I think is both. Great for the environment. But also provides an educational opportunity as kids get a chance to see what electric Motors can do as as we get those types of day calls on the roads time, I heard a metric one time that the Clark county school district is a second largest buses earn the US. Is that true? I was I could well be you may have. Yeah. It sounds sounds certainly plausible. They are the fifth largest district. And I think they're in districts that sized they're the most spread out most districts that are huge like that Lanta LA New York are more compressed than so more kids are are walking to school. So the school bus program. That's a great idea is this a pilot program, or is this a you gotta do this. So how knows Bill go to work a pilot program. Right. I mean, just the sheer number of as you allude to sheer number of buses, there's not funding in order to provide all all school districts. You know, certainly. Not all buses will be going electric. But certainly enough can get on the road where we can start to see some empirical data verify the cost savings estimates. See how they play out in in the real world. Be able to see how batteries perform under different conditions of high heat and so forth. And then also provides an opportunity to really see some interesting concepts. When you've got a big battery and about you've got an energy storage device that mobile, so there's been some interesting discussion as to addition to transporting students what could those batteries on buses be used for? And it's, you know, the idea of electric storage is certainly an important concept. Now, we have with electric school buses, the the idea that there was a need or backup power. You've got a big battery and a chance to move it on over to a facility that may not have power for whatever reason and get. Some some backup to critical facilities through electric school buses. So number of interesting ideas, how electric batteries and vehicles can help improve the grid down the road. We'll see more vehicle to grid integration. And the idea that batteries in whatever vehicle can help manage the grid more economically. And we also went to space seeing some ratepayer savings for everyone as we get more electric vehicles on the road as we'll be able to leverage our electric system more efficiently. So good stuff than about alleged. Sure is looking at. And so it's an exciting time and the energy relevant about. And thank you for for your interest and keeping people informed as to what's

"Vision to life. Be it the Thawra be it the lion. King beat you know, all of his projects have that super quality of storytelling. I have no doubts that things will move forward with him. And when you look at just the overall arc of where they're going the marvel cinematic universe is going to have to do a whole lot. To let me down. They really are. I mean, you've got news coming out now about them, adding an actress from from west to show from thirteen reasons why Catherine Langford has been added. You know, we always talk about the individuals who've been snapped out after the final snap. She's a new character. That's being added to avengers for her role. Many right now are suspecting that she is going to be Kate Bishop who is a character who took on the mantle of Hawkeye within the character within a cast of the young avengers. That were like like totally of scarlet witch, and and a descendant of Isaiah. Forgive me for getting his name as a Walker the first captain America, who was an experiment of Tuskegee type experiment, where they Spearman on African American soldiers and created the first super soldier, and and his grant Grey's great grandson got a hold of the formula became captain America, you'd be captured black America black America. And so now the thing is became Bishop. Why because there's also news of Jeremy renner's Hawkeye character getting an offshoot film that goes into some more real cloak and dagger type spies stuff after the scarlet witch film this coming out. So a lot of people are thinking that that is a calf is going to be introduced at. There's also, you know, scenes of Gwyneth Paltrow and rescue armor out there. So there's a lot that's going on in this world and Kevin Feige with his wild self is now talking about dead pool survived the Thunnel snap. Why are you saying this to hype us up, sir? If dead pool should make an appearance. In ventures four. I will be done in a good way. If they if if they were able to bring those properties together not impossible. Yes, not impossible. And here's why it's not impossible. A lot of individuals were like, there's no way dead can be connected to the Morrison matter universe because of his rated r nature. This December they have actually reshot redone and done new scenes to release what a PG thirteen deadpool. Deadpool doesn't have to enter the MC you Cussing and doing all the visual humor which earned him. An are. It could just a short appearance. Whereas like, hey, you're gonna help me cliff the time line, right, right? As time traveling. I nine is you introduce deadpool Kevin Feige saying he's the fish because he was in a different part of the the world. I you don't know. "The last point i want to make is that when you do this when you document and then you reflect and then you actually write down the learning outcomes the more you do this the more attentive you will be of these opportunities when you don't document when you don't reflect you cannot them slip by take them for face value and you don't really see how you can apply them in your business but when you actually go through that practice you're radar is much more aware of what's going on and you really take down these learning opportunities seriously guys this experiment a working while travelling has been incredible but it hasn't been perfect i'll be honest there's been challenges and that's what our next episode is all about the challenges of working while travelling and how to deal with them what do you do when you have a little mini crisis and your business and you're supposed to be going somewhere out in your travels gone see museum or ghana's see some park but your business needs you what do you do when you stressed out about a problem and you're just not on the mood to do what your plan to do in your trip well happens when you and your significant other whoever you're traveling with your friend or just on different wavelengths because of business and what if you're in the middle of your travelling in realize hey this is not working i got to get back to work i gotta go back to my office or home in order for me to do what i need to do these challenges we have to face share with you the challenges i'm having in mind journey in mike spearman rheinau traveling and working in our next episode so michiu subscribes to get part five of our working while travelling experiment.

"You know he made the case that g intelligence has no meaning if you're the only one on a desert island if you can't compare your g levelled anyone else on that island it makes no sense to you can't measure g so all that i just wanna say it's consistent with what you just said yeah i think i to get act i think i placed a marker on something over getting to where we are about a unit dimension analogy and intelligence because i think as during order that you're going back to troll spearman who came up with this idea first place people have asked what's against the typical question about whether all the barriers cobaria along the many the in in a number of mental tests should give people can be hit by a single common factor and the answer to that question going back to spearman is no impact as go means of test go it's rule that intelligence easterly wale fairly well described by a single actor morgan say personality your something but spearman himself showed that g per se one single factor was not unof and i think people well it's two things people it can be very easy the thing that because all tests are possibly correlated with each other that means that there must only be blunting that's causing the man that as a statistical matters not the case and second once you come up with this testicle thing called g and describe it mathematically and name it as g it's very easy to fall in love with a little bit mtm at well now that we have this thing called g it does scribe quite a bit of.
