"This episode of capes lunatics side kick is brought to you by tweaked audio get awesome headphones gotta treat the audio dot com and use the coupon code southgate get thirty percent off each shipping in a lifetime warranty or you can get there to the link on our website southgate media group doctor big riley about plus i am only ordering them all k yeah it was definitely credible he never said i wasn't before that wind coming hey i know or get there but yeah so core barred from him coming out or gonna be a big you'll be the months of material but can i can i say that i kind of i kind of wish spiderman could have been its own little pocket like i coach in game in i don't know what the only thing i just don't i feel like an extra layer that when he gave me what well i mean you know what i mean yeah i mean maybe going or that moving you maybe don't eat more segregated yeah i like that that's just not only like concerned about spiderman and when he like he was introduced in the war an you know they had engaged in now it's like okay in a post now world would have a clock graduated or yeah so i dunno we'll see how it goes but what we did a wealth is very much a amazing spiderman three eleven in the middle inferno crossover yeah i now yeah there's a lot of class already gonna vincent spiderman well i mean the marrying burners thing anyone news in new york at the time it was like everyone i mean of all fantastic or everybody who's primarily x men the kids in demon like running all through new york and an ex man so i think when you're premium 'cause like daily to like i think you know anyone outside of new york was free of this like wasn't hulk and vegas at this point i don't you have the deal wasn't burnell a west coast of injures enough people say yeah like i i think i mentioned it last night piling on nightly news like how everything is in new york in the marvel universe with the most part it's crowded but it's still segregated mhm from five and then then you get an event like this like yeah everybody go back to their own damn cornered hate you already yeah but i think like dean crossover were good then they're like the materials or become like oh wait with syria or was not burn exactly but the kind of retell the director of the man called area though somehow remember for the issue i think you might have been been admitted to since he showed up at a spiderman book yeah a ban norman that one twenty three now i know he he he was around the around the mazing two hundred eighty right before you get to serve eating 'em in between like wild but not that long that would like hobgoblins words in yeah yeah as it might it might have been closed around two hundred so restraint on china member unless you showed up in like a web spiderman there's something i think though i mean it might have been one flew over a hundred issues that that's the ladder restrain her now i think the latest forgotten the like hey man we haven't we haven't had here oh crap you damn i born current connors anyway if you open up what the court you know he outlets plan anything like a stone lines outside the main branch of the public library i come to life and attacked people get some very mcfarland or yeah that they made it that mean you know what little although this came before yeah yeah so that happened peter here's greens and he's like oh it might as well get my camera out of the southeast mhm is like fragment flying in everything getting ready to rumble and there's just like miss the fog and mist everywhere yeah it it in nearby alley there that port peanut no rooney kinda mcgregor couple given a batman yeah allen to tell your friends about me here kind of like match the creatures in fact his first the line there yeah i'd library and like it was like it giants figure comes out like made of the wall just like rip off the wall will also be absorbing man way even going but i did feel book what i know and then the figure like it looks like he killed but they are the nine the man of the couple that was getting mugged yeah he picked up the car and throws it mhm like okay very super man by little strong and all i mean i'll give it to take on the giants dome not only does he like spider bomb there's something about them you know 'em marble would like to disagree with anyway so so yeah the police dr nassar firemen and make a statement and i'm like really eventually statements gonna hold up okay that's fine moving at speed all the paperwork i guess i i dunno however where he has nothing to say he's like i'm gonna go down the station tomorrow and i'm like really oh okay whatever you say oh man get town in their in their faltering any conditions on it emits arlene drawing her says you know what to pop in a short short cut the hot you know he had to create the mom contact night at least i do like i felt like it deal if they but yeah that's why i'm glad i don't live in the city 'cause it's all about aaron for you don't got central air i feel sorry 'em yeah so she called the repairman but got it out and they all i hear is like faint crackling i'm laser phone that peter what have you been doing the fed gronk t ryan boy oh no that they back in the day that you it'd be like a thing you could hear i couldn't be clear you're on your own now them protected that and you'll just someone always let me cut they are they thinking at eleven they just you're how now yeah alexa the google did big meter all natural anyway 'em yeah so what happened back then he kind of held her what happened here devon event yes she comes in off the balcony the company a husband who you dot com and go every time you know what mary jane cigarettes cigarettes older funny cigarettes on the jazz cigarettes okay of covert me the evil cutting oh anyway i dunno yet yeah it's mary jane and nobody ever knows what to do with her by which they did not kick on her today yeah oh but he left the camera green jappie orchard named shirley order bagley like her underwear anyway the next day peter like tried the a class on he can't get the thought of the dead man out of its mind you this i'm getting fresh air and they rent then who else who else kurt connors her corners yup encountered distracted again be well we will corners shows up in furniture to yeah exactly yeah 'em peter glennon heard like i've been selling i he did this strange whether it's the heat wave now don't turn up the loser anything yet like that would be my first like you have a phd there come on be anyway competed at the lab had a doctor evan swan any like even beyond that ended his word and then amory aaron murray will do moving along a calculated that 'em find never graduated high school purchase the bunny depalma yeah you left issue yeah it was just like i mean people still do that job yeah i know the university extra kept him but they stripped him of his here and i'm that's how that works ain't like on my own problems the deal is i can't be sympathetic phony phony managed on a cutback the him at home with mary jane in they go to this country western bar staying ed oh yes she's doing yeah so boot city purging the idea but lead dairy air really rare but he did the company doing twenty nineteen nineteen eighty 'em he's not is doing she's like you know we couldn't cancel i'm gonna make the money think drought swinging around at night like obviously peter honestly they try to make a quick exit but then they me on they they see that dude how yeah he get violent and peter like bro climb to about taking him out in like kinda like making like hey a starbucks in the bar gotta kill kill the night before you know you may know at least try it's okay tiger do the right thing you didn't know powers we'll see what that guy except for that time he didn't uncle ben is regard peter little by hand still better than me please everyone judge you about what you did when you were a teenager ogle hope are more like my college years i was pretty boring oh college 'em yeah no no infrared investigation it needed moving on yeah peter like finally get blasted john then he's like i feel foolish and thinking about my style and you know he's like gold china find it cameras in then he signed the scene any they there's no sign of trouble clean yeah let's get in the game there so that daredevil i mean spiderman goes down in a tear each peanuts morning i know i'm just like peanut y'all gonna leave peanut alone a lowly a tiny each kid way out in the overly crowded space of super villain taken all the damn villain job i'm just saying permit just hang with the celia peanuts up i know make totally batman totally they're fighting for his life a minority k and he's like okay give him information in so you know my head in that area you alley meet again old full repeated inside warehouse required converted into its own stage hollywood syria yeah not my favorite but whatever we will see what the movie does he has been cleared the angel at that point way to own a reference i feel like i demographic might be too young for that restaurant owner grandma the flash in the pan but i have and i have lives in vegas at the time he was really huge so far more like a liar liar pants on fire but anyway oh yes go cereals lake he's like what what got me he's one of the shakes his confidence the mysterious put up that whole thing when like logically weaken him and they don't make sure whatever unknown reason villa hidden hidden dulcet spider sense do we do we get a handle on that i'm trying to remember i think it's been like that pretty much like they why now why did we ever like why a comic book logic comey improperly it's convenient okay good nowadays they do at least try to like i mean we find their way out of things you're taking a number so i think mormon osborne even have some kind of get acquainted spider sense temporarily to mean i'm pretty resilient they're up there with roaches that's all i'm saying go yeah anyway a animatronic anna mother freaking metron animatronic some alien yeah yeah and this the people who i don't like listeria regain their redon gilded net of it all and then supposedly the goes so the guy's trying hard spiderman but of course while at least he's been all along material confronting the long guy from me i'm sorry i know but once once it comes down to a fistfight pp pizza pretty easily you would hope so but then again from how long the meat of all cheered the whole man village anyway yeah i just on when he goes i'm told mary jane about whole thing days like well at least with material in custody the weirdness and the town bop ahah no natta tan got to where she's been burning just been amazing no yeah not dimension spectacular spiderman in whether they a long by then they'll pay hurry osborne is is that you want i just love the focus on line dylan wind or just one page setting up another issue i know yeah exactly because hobgoblins are working outside not not the first one not the good one na backing down on furniture that's one back in one do the demon yet an end just gimme there at least nor me i want us only at flashback brought me in the next day after the only a flashback yeah so they were not that bad oh no i'm acting like yelp one more with okay they don't mean draining time it's berliner lenovo oh wait where will be covering bond three hundred i know i know another thing creation when somebody else's like i just i dunno yeah well i think he i think you feel the same way yeah exactly he knows he knows that end sometime certain things a little out of proportion now we think oh well it's a little distracting but okay i get it i get who the audience for it they area exactly like what kind of pepe lip you practice but anyway yeah this maintenance aereo into the but it's like it's everytime material comes around i'm just annoying i know i just i just wanna lose the cute little rat you know like a double take like oh okay in that will that wasn't period no more charter member wasn't did they did a spider man even say something about those sidelines beginning a wasn't that material like no that wasn't yeah yeah so but then again material the liars though you know trump will have permanent though the so what did you give this issue and then catering and i'm gonna go be solid me i like the one liners and they're quip me i i i like quipping spiderman in small doses 'em a lake that you know mary jane wasn't insufferable she's kind of airhead not fine you know we have made the issue around the time like it made with durable you know we we have a focus on something like rule now it's pretty cool yeah i mean they forget oh no i mean like mcfarland garneau might not be minus just because of course in the little too simplistic think listen you know man like i i like i like the focus on one bill in even though we curio well i mean i i could appreciate it yeah i guess yeah there's that by week we got a mouse rally spiderman number seven yeah let me pull my no amount of rain that we kind of briefly talked about it on a kate yeah but evidently in it you're tronto conversations in that portfolio hey a caring about fair game and so let's see oh yes they get that on you know i i really enjoyed the more the more grounded element but they both went into this series mile growlers 'em in i love it they show his struggle between the personal life superheroes they don't make it seem it's easy just appear i mean sure he liked missing danner euro whatever in the leg especially they met teenagers it really focused on all that pretty much here action in baby nubile for the most part you know what i mean oh yeah what's his reward yeah mild had like an actual will family not just the elderly aunt and he had friend dan you know quite a bit younger than he was when he got power and so that's like super interesting for me oh yeah i mean oh yeah mouses way when he first started power yeah and he's still really young right now but look i really love that are were about the cover art especially by a patch cookies that mentioned on k q on 'cause i i really like into the spider verse really surprised me and i really loved all their cinematic choice the ballot they end up like i dunno like i wish they would incorporate that more into this one mhm but like yeah i just love the name of the title in the on the day of the live family and then i really love that you remember the bombshell about what happened yeah i think it's good that you know they had this young guy a first and foremost young guy and his actions taken a moment and take back gonna live you know he out his actions at clinton oh yeah yeah tim what's his uncle and his parents and yeah on a potential always looks to me like she like kind of like caused play the doctor something oh yeah yeah it some people kinda don't really did the contrasting art thousand appear in the panels were kinda time but i dunno i get it like i get it as that's acquittal arch mhm but 'em that next big cliffhanger that were all waiting on embattled that were waiting on i thought that the final pages of the nation then ended up very well i'm asking you don't pumps the issue number eight but it took all around pseudo they're really good at if you're not eating now they're ellen you really should be added to the very end of a sixty six batman how will mope around scape exactly yeah it it it it it can be seen her on purpose indeed you know what i mean oh yeah i think that like that's something that a lot of the spiderman books are anymore it's like there there there were not dead pool we can lean into it you know yeah and that's the game became king of the dolphin you then you know he even slightly mehta kind of within the context of the story earlier and earlier years man so yeah it's fine in like i love his family dynamic it's something completely different from other people in the universe but i yeah then this one issue seven issue ten i just saw the elicit was i guess it's five miles morales is two hundred fifty issue so i dunno expected to be a little bigger but you would you would hope oh yeah it it made you don't get the parents then yeah i know they had their appearance by oh what's her face safra my issue voters granddaughter really mhm oh they they might be making her thing maybe somebody needed the money the way i see it on a mountain and i'm like kind of superhero girlfriend cat woman kinda made me a foil sometimes the romantic interest true i mean vitamin a and the what more can you hear me yes i can't hear you know i said did you mean spiderman in the league around number three no i am not interested in war around citing care how many crossovers october's i mean basically just fuck the main theories and like whenever crossed over in the book sales already breeding 'cause i know when charlie and i were talking about were ramsey like when this happened i'm like holy one of those fifty million a mini series they're putting out yeah i think just like i did like a i don't i've gotta kinda threw it at the door and obviously but okay but i don't i don't think that you know that spectacular they need it all these mini series the titan wit yana pump those numbers free you're movies you so much yeah but it's but it's basically just about everyone in the marvel universe punching cross giants you know loki he got on tv show coming out there reminding you hear this you know and he has been ongoing series coming up to outdoor realms yeah oh really oh yeah yeah even to the the image of the hubbard issue one with him flipping meal and they're totally forgot that that i'm not i'm not in i don't care i don't remember two or three like tempers tony parker whatever oh okay yeah so that happened you know what you know what it is something charlie afterward like yes very much so but yeah i'm really late late spiderman week spiderman three or jury that yeah 'em lakes that and you know i mean a guy that played well again it's something truly afterward like they basically you know talk is basically almost anything thing that i'm just like hey you know the print in break anything like electro rhino scorpion you cared like okay bullshit and the negative hell yeah everybody else now and then like the partnership the peter and i i don't i'm like one oh wait you must be ahead of me this is basically just like human mary jane find out orders on a rampage number four right yeah oh wait a boy they garri future woman 'em out on it well let the i played the game so yeah oh yeah so it's kind of like okay i know where they're going what they they're really great job of telling the a video the video game story so immersive and it's so cool there's so many great easter egg in but eventually is gonna have to take a departure from the game the game storyline but then i'm really curious bob and when that happened i twelve more likely but yeah so yeah it's just like okay there are three number before twelve some seeing something called spiderman philosophy which i i my god really are you serious yeah i think every number where they could get this will probably been building there you know what i think they might be breaking up into the level kinda sorta that were in the video game maybe yeah so like maybe every issue it'll be like okay now road on the part of the video game me me but now you know i just i just took it is like a auto like well like orgin with their arms and everything is very reminiscent spiderman two yeah just like once again i don't meet a sympathetic that he's kind of like a bumbling around and that's kinda the way that i really like that no trolley polly heat that interpretation but you know that's kind of the he looks like more like a bumbling yeah i i hate white auto when we need it to him i know that he's like kramer on now what the technicolor coco doofus one yet oh me very much though oh my god i mean nerd like me charlie veteran yeah no 'em end i they moved a little bit slower but a lot of other issues i think it needs care yeah but just like i dunno it just seemed like weird like mary james all in the like working with peter dental under his arm one bomb and she's like i dunno might need a break well he knew where i mean that's that's still not everybody is built for that kind of thing and that's ashley the normal reaction that most people should not just the diving in more danger rain jimmy alma saying yeah you should be diving the danger of going out close yeah but no it almost seemed like we wanna take a break repeat you know saint peter's is like really yeah think about it yeah they are almost done with among the video games that i wonder if it out patient they call it a day in that i dunno rocket to their sources were something fundamental lost his velocity suitor something maybe they maybe they're gonna keep the cares isn't tell their own story or maybe they're wrapping up for the follow up to it looks like a farmer suitors something yeah he had one i can't remember that chicago la you know there is a ton of cincinnati that game like so many i think it was like oh how did you come up with absolute yeah but yeah on any warlike then then everything i dunno kinda marlin good everything need a comic book as well things are they found only in justice model would well i don't think they think you're recapture that lightning in a bottle because of what what's going on with in the dc universe on why that took hold so the lake wrap it means so wholeheartedly that they even went ahead and did you know you're issue in that still doing really well was still doing really well you know that did you did you get that doors just like hey there's the there's the popular video game what happened mark aretha well i mean kind of the i i can honestly say that i still think they don't do market research or panels or anything like that they just do what they want it just like hey what's popular yeah i i really filling in that case they do just do what they want i mean i'm sure it's a business but at the same time sometimes you you know they didn't massively flop and failed and you're like well if market research you i would have told you nobody would have argued that i'm writing a damn ackman guinea bride is not yet anyway i feel better i oh i could i need that's my that's my ultimate meam i just went out and me a picture of you sitting on a long box and now i'm just gonna put she has issues oh nice thing well we have come in yet yet i get it the plan where anyway we were having a better man i don't know a younger please yeah right i report my shopping list 'em next week is amazing spiderman twentyfour 'em friendly neighborhood spiderman in yet that elite spiderman ainu one superior spiderman eight and all the spiderman still i yeah i know i got one to at least four issues yeah oh holding way in are final issue mr mr that basically that i kinda any other program frank figure out some way to put it frankly boom phrasing who you thought oh i should be a drop you hit by raising anyway let's get out of here on how the people how they can get in touch with that yeah send us your Felt the Pain - Number 4
"This is broken to brave episode to number. Four on the list felt the pain. It didn't take me long to realize that those first three steps were the easy part identifying the problems clearly wasn't going to be enough I had to figure out how to heal lifelong trauma I started reading the book we by Gillian Anderson and Jennifer Nadell and attempted to begin the real work. It was time to feel the pain I journaled I walked. I cried a lot. I kept going back to bed, but not as often enough for as long. The pain was excruciating. Step socked. It sucked bad I carried so many toxic people around with me, and they were heavy and destroying me, even though they had physically left years ago I was angry at myself for letting them have access for not leaving sooner for not protecting my husband and daughter from them for not wasting my adult years leading their behavior. Keep me from living my life. I was stuck. No, I was paralyzed. I hated myself and fully believed that everyone would be better off if I died. I begged God to let me die in. My sleep hadn't suffered enough. I have to feel it again. Why do I continually have to suffer? Because people were cruel, I highly doubt it. Any of my abusers were losing sleep over what they did to me I had spent my life holding the pain at bay, and now the only path to freedom and healing was to allow the feelings to come. The only problem with that path was the terror that consumed me. If I let the pain wash over me destroys me. What if I can't recover? I took thousands of deep breaths during this phase and grounded myself and felt the pain a little bit at time until I learned to let go. Sometimes bravery is pushing through the pain. Episodes of broken brave are released every Tuesday and Thursday thank you so much for listening and for joining me on this journey of healing and growth. If you WANNA. Go deeper into the story and hear it from spouses perspective, my husband and I have a Patriot only show where we haven't extended behind the scenes discussion of every episode, which also post twice a week. Here's the sample of the Patriot only show. So I had agoraphobia and really bad social phobia, social anxiety, and while we were living in Minneapolis, and and so ripe before I'm then like the night before I'm supposed to go to this therapist or a couple of nights whatever? We're at lunch at the grocery store and and rob says across the street you go across the street and order the BAGELS. And simple request and come right back like I'm GonNa Watch you. You're going to be totally fine. I can see you. You can see me. Everything's okay, but you were like trying to do like. tr- tough love or something like you were trying to like not enable me and so I walk across the street and I go to open the door and it's locked and there's a guy mopping. An old man mopping and I. Almost went catatonic because I I was like Oh, my God. You know so I go to the therapist for the first time I met her, and I'm telling her. The story and I was like just as an example. This just happened I can't describe to you. How much I love this woman but she looked at me and she said. What do you think he's talking about you over dinner with his family, and I said Yeah because I honest to God. Do of course I did and she looked at me and she said own honey. You're not that interesting. And I wanted I've never wanted to hug a person. Much in my freaking life. But she. Seriously something that we quote often because it. was so important for me because my whole life with them. Nitpicking every breath I took every single thing. I did it was like. Please tell me it's not important. Please tell me no one's looking. At least tell me just how. They were and they were walk in the other room and talk. Played Volleyball in My Bathing Suit - Number 7
"Broken to brave episode, five number seven I played volleyball in my bathing suit. Holy, crap people I played volleyball in my bathing suit, and it was my idea. My daughter and I were sitting on a porch at a campground where I had a view of the volleyball courts. I told her that I used to play in middle school. I then suggested she go to the office and see how much it costs to run the ball. We could go plan our way to the pool later. Why is this significant first of all I'm not an athlete and don't do sports. Second of all I'd be in my bathing suit already third of all. It's out in the middle of the campground and everyone. Everyone can see me fourth of all. I don't like to be seen ever I have spent my life trying to be invisible. I have body issues most of my life including eating disorders and body Morpheus and as an adult have struggled with my weight did I mention the bathing suit did I mention being on display did I mention that I am not an athlete and haven't actually played volleyball at least thirty years. Prior to do in this list, the thought of playing volleyball wouldn't have entered my mind, or if it did I would have listed all the reasons above as to why I shouldn't do it and talked myself out of it. I have missed out on so much of my life because I would shame myself out of doing things. Once my husband and daughter picked their jaws up off the ground, and desperately tried not to make eye contact with me was not to cause me to rethink this insane idea. We headed to the court. We started playing, and not long after these two girls asked to join our game, they were around my daughter's age. We all started playing, and my husband took pictures and I let him what is this insanity? Maybe I was onto something. Maybe if you try to push the envelope and go outside your comfort zone and do a few brave things. Your brain creates new pathways that cause you to forget all the things that you used to be scared to do. Maybe I was capable of change and could actually start living my life. Sometimes bravery is going back to something you used to enjoy. Episodes of broken brave are released every Tuesday and Thursday thank you so much for listening and for joining me on this journey of healing and growth. If you want to go deeper into the story and hear it from spouses perspective. My husband and I have a Patriot only show where we haven't extended behind the scenes discussion of every episode, which also post twice a week. Here's a sample of our latest to Patriot only companion podcast. Okay because it's a little involved to get me into a bathing suit I mean to be shaken like like things have to be. It takes people like you have a team. I can't put it on by myself because. Bathing is really are. Most. You got to have inspection or things in. It's not an typically it's it was an out and so I'll be like. What's going on over here and she's like Oh. Yeah, we gotTA shake that down a little bit. So she'll just shake that fabric, and till the things settle in where they're supposed to. And you know whatever, but it takes at least another person to get me into a bathing suit, and so I was like I am not. Going to change into a bathing suit in the bathroom at the pool. Right 'cause she's gotTa. Shake me into this thing like we're gonNA. Put It on here. I'm going to play in it and then we're just going to go swimming. So that was. That was part of the catalyst for why was actually in the bathing suit right to play and. So then I'm thinking Oh my God I have never. Ever outside of the swimming pool allowed my arms to be exposed right since I was like nineteen or right so I've always worn sleeves. I always cover up and and So. I was like Oh. My God I'm GonNa go walk to the pool which I normally put the towel over me I'm like okay can do that, but then I got take it off to play. Volleyball and people are going to watch my jiggle as I'm hitting the ball. Theoretically hitting the ball didn't. People are going to be watching. Because let's see that once again. That's my my. Brain, yeah and cared no one cared at all, and we had so much fun, and he and you were taking pictures and I'm like I'm GonNa let him take pictures like he can take pictures. Whatever and and I'm playing with the girls, and we're laughing and I'm like okay. I could still serve. Somewhat not is not as well, but I can still serve and I was like okay. They're hurts I. What I learned. Volleyball hurts like a son of a bench and I don't ever want to do it again. Even though yesterday, you started talking about buying a volleyball net. Totally did I wanted to play volleyball again when I like what I was thinking, it hurts. It hurts and you wanted a net. Leg warmers. At my arms. That would work okay by me. A volleyball I could put were leg warmers. GonNa. Spend all the money on a volleyball for one time for you to go the socks. Although maybe to get the picture of you? Standing up there with light warmers on might be worth. Worth every. Is Worth and we can play badminton to hear the rest of this episode and get other exclusives become a patron to broken debris at Patriot dot com. Accepted Praise - Number 16
"Broken to brave episode fourteen number sixteen accepted praise. One of the hardest things for me to learn in my life was to accept praise to say that I was not praised as a child an understatement. I am an expert at self-deprecation as well. So it became part of my DNA to think of myself as a disaster and voice all negative opinions of myself whenever the opportunity arose. If anyone tried to complement me, I would give them the five hundred reasons why they were wrong in their opinion of me it was embarrassing for them and for myself. After the keynote address, I received some messages. One said that she wanted me to be the keynote speaker every year my gut reaction was to respond by calling her crazy enlist every single thing wrong with me. But I'd been doing the work. I'd been challenging these beliefs about myself. I'd been rewiring the messages in my brain therefore day I responded back. Thank you so much and sat in the feelings someone thinking I did a good job brought up. who was I to tell her that? Her experience of my talk was wrong who was I to tell her that? Her reality is not reality I was freaking brave. I had a message that needed to be heard. I fought through and delivered said message it may not have been pretty but it was effective is bad enough that event gave me so many opportunities to practice accepting. Praise. Sometimes, bravery is simply saying thank you. Episodes of broken brave are released every Tuesday and Thursday thank you so much for listening and for joining me on this journey of healing and growth. If you WANNA, go deeper into the story and hear it from spouses perspective my husband and I have a Patriot only show where we have an extended behind the scenes discussion of every episode, which also post twice a week. Here's a sample of our latest patreon only companion podcast. That I was done at seven I was frigging done. So lot that's a lot to be done and most kids don't. Yeah don't have that that type of experience and then don't. If they did they would react a little bit differently but I was so angry and done by them. But Anyway so so I'm walking down the hallway and one of the teachers I my head down. So second grade. So maybe seven head down staring at the floor, which was my natural state. Okay. I'm in a hallway by myself because I was taking something to somewhere and one of the. One of the teachers. said. You know should walk with your head up and you know be proud of who you are and I remember just looking at her going. You've literally told me every day. How much I suck. And what a horrible person? And it's like you want me to what? So for this their attempt at I wonder if boosting myself a saying. Like Oh, I'm going to try to increase because maybe that's why she's acting out not maybe I should stop being a monster right though. The fact that I've been on so you could see how my sense of. Compliments or raise could be slightly skew. Little my very bizarre upbringing. Okay. So you can kind of see why I would have a misfiring. Brain when it comes to this and so why this might be a monumental. Thing that I was accepting and learning a new tool because there's a lot of self protection that came with not accepting praise and a lot of self self protection from not. Being vulnerable. In, that way and and also. Feeling like somebody's going to. Victimize me air like someone's going to, I'm going to accept it, and then they're going to laugh and go I. Knew You thought that about your? So I was just kidding you know like they did when I was a kid. So I this was quite a lot overcome. and. It's hard for me to quite put it into words because it sounds quite insane when I talk about some of the day to day stuff that happened when I was a kid but but it is. It was so ingrained and and so layered that this was for me to just smile and say, thank you that means a lot you know and accept the fact that they're. Very, well may look at me and laugh and go I was just kidding you suck God that's what I was expecting and so I had to take that. I had to do that and accept that risk. And that's quite a risk. That is a is very brave thing 'cause nobody likes to be set up and torn down, which is what your whole life was. Yes and so. Accepting compliment. Is, often saying I accept your opinion. Right, except that that is your opinion. And I but I don't. I don't necessarily have to agree with it in order to. The opinion, the compliment it is the accepting it's their opinion doesn't have to be yours. And that's That's where the disconnect is. I mean that's part of it. You had a lot. You had a lot of disconnect but yeah, the I completely see how that would be so hard. And so so for. This situation where I have the. You know I have the fact that some of these people are starting to hear the rest of this episode and get other exclusives become a patron to broken debris at Patriotair Dot Com. Found Beauty In All Things - Number 12
"Broken to brave episode ten, number twelve found beauty and all things. I was doing more and more work to win the exercises and focusing on feeling my feelings and being grateful I started to search for beauty everywhere I looked ugly sidewalks might have a tiny flower growing through the cracks trees, the sky architecture moments whatever wherever I posted them on my facebook page it forced me to engage with my facebook friends on a more intimate level this. Was the inside of my head. This was personal I wasn't hiding behind molly. Or Rob or their events I was saying that something moved me. This may not sound like a big deal to many of you and to be honest it sounds a little crazy to me to now when I see how far I've come since then I can barely remember what it was like before. I'm telling you this was a big deal in finding my voice in putting myself on display on fighting like crazy for my health and wellbeing. I couldn't see beauty when I started my list I was sad and dawn and afraid and feeling very much like there was not much point to existing. Finding beauty in my day to day was a brave act. It was that very small part of me. That was hidden away. That was saying I want to stay. There's more to see here there still something good and if that flower can grow in a cracked ugly sidewalk, what am I capable love maybe there's still hope. Sometimes allowing yourself to hope in the midst of grief and despair is the bravest thing you could ever do. Episodes of broken brave are released every Tuesday and Thursday. Purposefully witnessing beauty around you in the minutia when you felt when those kids came around you and you. You realized. Your pardon. There's a beauty here that I I wish I wish I could get every single person listening and every person that that has been Every person, every person that they could process this. And do this for themselves I think the world would be completely different. Agree. and I think people that are hurting. If they could. Come to this it would. Help them yeah. I found one also from. The day that I was doing the keynote. Up Picture of and no not not a picture but I had written on facebook that day beauty as allowing the fear to wash over you as you prepare to do the thing. That terrifies you the most knowing. It will not stop you this time Oh my God. Oh my God and it didn't it didn't and that's you know to me like. Knowing where I am now and knowing that I can now. Pretty much effortlessly. Say. Yes to. A. Lot In my life and and I do it pretty effortlessly I might get scared at the moment I might get scared five minutes after agreed But I do it anyway and I do it now with so much less panic and so much less thought and and. And I just. Living in a way that I've never lived in my entire life and and so when I see things like that and I go. You frigging bad ass. Like look at what you did. Look what you Did, you got up there and you you were so scared and you did that and now look where we are today. I want I want people to know that sometimes it's stupid little things but they add up to something. So big in the end you know what I mean. It's leg and this this one in particular this. This step. Of You taking the pictures of the beauty of purposely it's hard sometimes. Especially when you feel like that, it's hard. You know here's an another. Aspect of this that is not on your list. That I think is important because stemmed out of this. I Let an Artist Draw My Face - Number 39
"Number thirty nine. I let an artist draw my face robin. I put on a really cool fan for c. Two in chicago. We had a marathon of podcasts including a horror audio drama. We had comic book artists and a doctor who tribute band that played sets between shows. One of the artists stayed for the whole event and went around the audience drawing people and then giving them their caricature. I spent much of my time. Sideline him and making sure. I always knew where he was. So i could run if he came near me. I hate to get my picture taken. I hate for people to look at me. I think i especially hate to be drawn but at that time i had no experience with that whatsoever. Because i don't think i've ever had anyone actually ever draw. I'm pretty sure well. I got distracted and there. He was next to me. He's a friend and a really good guy and an award-winning talented artist. And it would be rude to cry and run away. Which is what every fiber and my body was telling me to do. So i stayed rob held my hand and took way too much pleasure in my discomfort of the bastard. I was gifted the picture but couldn't look at it for quite a while. I did keep it though as a reminder for number thirty nine this was a necessary step. And i'm glad i did it. But it brought up a lot of feelings of inadequacy and self image sadness that i can't see in myself when others see sometimes being brave doesn't feel good afterwards. Episodes of broken to brave are released every tuesday and thursday. My husband and i have a patriot. Only show where we have extended behind the scenes discussion of every episode which also post twice a week. Here's a sample of our latest patriots. Only companion podcast. Yeah all but she yes so usually if she's there then always not usually if she's there the focus is on her which i love because then it's not on me. She wasn't there so you. I had to sit there through the entire process. Us knowing that someone is staring at me which is like. I can't think of like a worse thing right. I can't think of a worse thing than somebody's sitting there analyzing my face and like draw every the the focus. You have to have to catch it. I was like oh my god. Please stop like i can't breathe. It was so scary for me and it was. It was really my worst nightmare. Like pretty much. And and i didn't realize that i don't think i ever would have known how scare like because i hate to get my picture taken right right and always have even as a kid whenever i've always hated getting my picture taken and Your grant i used to ruin all the things we because she she was just like that and then does she. And i'd be like let's high hold upper so we were not very. We were naughty but had never had anybody draw me so. I didn't know that that was actually worse. Then getting your picture taken right because you've got the a level of studying right there staring at has to happen whereas a picture they hold the camera they go. Okay we're gonna train boom and we walk way. And then i just go please. Don't ever let me see it but this was intense. What he's he was drawing in ink so it's not like he could sketch it out in a race and change things to look at you. He is studying you getting what he wants done and inking. Yes so this was an ink drawing. That's yeah that's wild. Yeah and i saw. I was trying not to cry all the comic book artists and other artists that we know. I'm really surprised. This is the first time it came up. Well molly no for you. I know because amount molly wasn't there wouldn't have come up with molly had better job. What's going on at hasbro and wizards actually about something. this week. It looks like hasbro is going to try and revive their cinematic universe. Great just what we need more. Gi joes more transformers. Well maybe they'll get this week this time. Maybe they'll get it right this time. I doubt it. But we'll see and the thing. From wizards of the coast is that wizards is fighting themselves in the courtroom. This time gale force nine. I had this thought that. I'm going to see if i can't find a gaming person. That is a lawyer and then we can have an episode about the dragon lands lawsuit and the gophers nine. And we'll see in might be kind of boring. So i don't know we'll figure it out and then i'll throw it on the wall and see if it sticks business this week. Christmas is coming. Because there's some good stuff it's it's the normal stuff like castle entertainment and swung and masha concepts. You know the people that i love. There's a few new ones. there's a yeah jenny loveday. She writes stuff. There's one for. I wanna see parts per million. But i can't remember and i know that's not right. There's patriarch on for the bard's Some really good stuff. This year i went hundred percent. People that need support not amazon crap. There is no spotlight this week. Because i just wanna get right into this week's topic which is a book on the skill and this is my first criticism if you are not writing content specifically dini related told us the guild. Go us drive through and then give people the option to have a print on the bed. Because i don't want a pdf of a book. That's one hundred and fifteen pages. If i want to buy a book. That's one hundred and fifteen pages. I wanna be a cold. That thrown at my players have have to. That really is my only criticism that it's one hundred fifteen pages and i can't have it in book for and that's not that's not their fault any more than they're the ones that put it on. Drives her on the espn. If you've got to drive here they couldn't put it as an option for pdf but deal yield only let certain people make their pd s in book format and thing is okay fine but this one this one as far as i read nothing in it. That was exclusively own by was to the coast so they could have gone to drag through at given me the option to on demand ad because it is pdf. I is hundred pages too long. That's it it's it's a good book. Don't get me wrong. it's a good book. It's what say it's dragging lance meets charlemagne's paladins to goods black book about nights and all their fluff. It's good but it is definitely another charlemagne's paladins. I do like the night class in it. And if wizards of the coast does go visit dragged lands in. They're playing chase experiment that they're working on heads going to be great. I would recommend taking this up for a dragon lynch adventure or any other kind of nightly adventure. I would however say that. If if i was gonna use this book i would want all my players to be nights. Why not pretty fun. So yeah go over to the dmz skilled and check this out. it's called bright lances to of knighthood and overall. I'm going to give it a nine. I don't wanna basing that awful giving in a nine out again. I should come up with some solid criteria if do more reviews like this because there is another. Show coming up where reviews and stuff from dmz guild. And yeah alright. So for me myself. And i ma hollow a great day again. Thank you for listening to the kevin long show. You can find the website. Southgate media group dotcom at southgate media. Group dot com. You can find us on. Interview with Phil Perich
"In Lima. Alley today I as good friend I have. From case Olympics, Hey Phil how you doing. Good create the beer great. I am so happy to have you. Fill I, know you've actually hosted this show before, but I people to know what you do, so why don't you tell us about yourself gives her background. What do you do? Well! I've been podcasting for a few years now and for last Welshpool becoming up on three years now I've been hosting the Cape Saint. PODCAST for Southgate Media Group Yeah Cool. Before that did a whole bunch of shows for us to. Yes, yes, like I said. Can I start like twenty fourteen. Maybe yeah, just the random shows before the bat about the Gotham podcast or welcome flash aero power hour, which came legends of D. C., just anything hurt stuff and you did stuff enough said you were on this week in Geek, but now your main focuses case lunatics. Tell people about keeps lunatics. Well, actually it's to podcasts, capes and lunatics caves a lunatic sidekicks I mean we kinda focus on a on a lunatics focus on the newer staff, current news TV movies comic books anything bad, basically that you're interested in and then case Olympic sidekicks, we cover more of like older staff cover like old comics and. Basically just a comics over there, but I mean yeah. I mean Eddie between the two anything. Pop Culture is pretty much up for grabs. Yeah, it seems like your focus is more on kind of superhero, but at the same time you've ventured off into Picard and some of the other. Kind of pop, Culture Geek touchdowns. Yeah like I, said I i. mean just when we were putting capes a lunatics together, we I just wanted like a more broad general place where we liked cover anything, so it's a lot of us were in the Star Trek in like. Someone to watch picard like you said so. It's like hey. We could talk some picard here. We can do pretty much what we want. Why don't you break down the shows? Because here's how it works I know you have to feeds, and you have multiple shows on those feeds capes. Lunatics is the name of the two feeds essentially, but capable prime is where you kind of. That's kind of the heap where you talk about everything, but then you have individual shows on there. What are some of those individuals shows? Will basically like you said Capes and lunatics is the main show. We talk about man pretty much anything current these days on that feed. We have super connectivity of course with our friend. Charlie Asher basically see pop culture through his is. The nightly news where Kristen and I talk about you know we were talking current night, wink comics, but since this is the eightieth anniversary of thick grazing, we've been doing deep dives in the order stuff, and then Charlie and Mawes every Friday. Pick a TV. Show like it's something streaming service usually, and they cover those episode by episode. Then the other one that keeps them going to take sidekick Sam. We've been covering. That man nightfall for before the bath. Yeah, well, then we have ultimate spider Casper Lil and basically jump through spider history. Wade's world where we talk anything dead poll comic, basically just anything we want. The quantum zone with Lia, moral character Quasar, then listen. I've been talking about bringing back. Legends of the Arrow versus where we're GONNA be talking some of the shows even like old flash comics now very cool, so it seems to be kind of DC heavy, but at the same time you do venture into the marvel stuff I know because I know you like it. I know that Charlie is hosting enough said at this point, which is I'm not going. Say is an offshoot of Capes. Antics enough said is kind of your. Your competitor yet at the same time I kind of you it altogether, so nuff said is the one that I had started with Jack Way back, which covered agents of shield, and all the marvel stuff now Charlie has taken that over. He covers marvel there, and you guys kind of bleed into that too right Oh. Yeah, yeah, I mean we share I think we share the staff. We share super connectivity between the two PODCASTS and. Me Charlie her. Charlie answers just everywhere these days. So. Do you guys have like a Patriot fan or any way to support your show We don't have a Patriot on yet? We've been talking about that. I would say right now. Probably the easiest way to. Support us as a giving not public in like buying a shirt or a Mug, some of the merchandise or just sending You know contributions directly as southgate mini group also. I always like that. What about crowd? Consider, do anything with a crowdfunding four. Any projects like said we I mean we live and I've been planning stages, but I think I don't know if we're always like waiting for the right moment which I don't know if there's ever going to be right moment, but. There will be I'm sure and once you hit. That will definitely share it here on Allie. Chat. So where can people check out capes in lunatics? While the PODCASTS I'm getting there on all the major platforms you know apple podcasts Itcher ever. You know all the podcast it, but we're all over social media facebook twitter at capes lunatics. Instagram we're on a on each year. Shows seem to have social media so to make it easier. I'M GONNA. Put them all in the show notes. That'll okay. Okay yes, and and then we also have the link tree now that L. A. N. K., tr, dot, ee, slash Capes, lunatics. All the links are there. Oh, good, okay, very good, and what's the best way for people to get in touch with you? On the easiest ways either email us capes an lunatics at gmail.com, or we have a voice mail. I know that we should be way higher in the count number. Can you believe that there are already seventy five? Were definitely, GonNa. Make one hundred this year for various reasons. I am a little disappointed in that but whatever seventy five That is amazing. All right. Again, I wish I had buffers for each section I should just go find some or make some whatever. But. I don't have anything from wizards of the coast. Or Hasbro this week trust me next week, there's going to be. and. In fact, well, I guess I can't do it next week because sitting in my mailbox. Are Two things that I need to review. and. Do shows about they're each going to be their own show so it might be three weeks. or I might just make a super long. Segment on Hasbro and wizards of the coast next week. We'll see. We'll see what happens. Yeah. So this week, there's really nothing I wanNA talk about. Just because I had already made this show when. When things went down. So we'll wait until next week. The business. Don't forget. pod Life. Lock written by members of Southgate Media Group and other podcasters. Is Available. On. Don't forget about the coffee you count. and T public. There are links in the show notes. But Christmas is coming. coffees really not I mean copy is going to benefit the show, but if you need a gift. Go to the public site. You can get shirts, coffee mugs you can get notebooks for your dnd note taking. I'm actually contemplating some new images. That will be coming out soon, I I thinking about it. I know I need more products of lable. So we're working on that. Is Not in the notes. But. And I know that I said I wasn't going to be doing a patriarch on for the Kevin Long? Show. Because whatever but I am seriously contemplating changing my mind on that and I want to hear from you at the came along show Edgy, Mel, dot com, what kind of content you are looking for When I launched my Patriot I want to know what kind of content you I wanna know what kind of rewards you want. For contributing to the Patriarch. I know magic Monday is going to be a topic we're going to die if more into whatever we're talking about on magic Monday. So, there will be four episodes of that every month. I don't know what I'm going to do for the main Kevin Long. Show. But I'm sure I'll figure something out. All, right the spotlight, have you been following me on twitter? You know that this month the thirty day call to action is to get you guys to head over to. The swamps twitter and check out her. Drive RPG store and PATRIAE on. So there are links in the show notes for that guys go check it out for dean, the castles and Crusades, all kinds of RPG stuff. That you might enjoy. And while we're on the subject of the spotlight, that will be our segue into this week's topic. There is a blog called a Gamer a day. That is done by the swamp. and. Right now there are plane chase and the idea is what? Three settings are wizards going to be releasing. And I kinda like those. My thing is short I? Even. Though there is a lawsuit going on right now about dragging Lance I think that Dragon Lance is still very much. One of the settings. Released by the coast. because. Let's face it. They're doing it as one money grab and to to keep people engaged. So you don't start playing, pathfinder? For other roleplaying games. Like. The attention span, of wizards fans is starting to look at other things. And we can't have that. So let's release. Settings, fans, want. At because it is making sure your attention is still on wizards and grab the three settings are going to be Grayhawk. Because there is a huge Grayhawk fan base. That Still doing their thing. So that's going to bring a lot of old people to fifth addition. Dragging Lance. And Probably Spell Jabber. Even, though in my mind is a toss up between spell jim or dark side. So those are the four that my money are on. Yeah. I know there are other settings and you're asking what about Raven loft well, Raven. Loft is already unofficial five eighty. And you're like there isn't a book. Setting Book and Yeah you're right. There's not but wizards of the coast with release of cursive Straw opened up. Raven Loft so you can publish. Stuff in Raven Loft. And the argument is the Dark Sun. There are no say honest this in addition while was it the coast has been test-playing. And there are Ceylon ix on the DM skilled. So You may say that there aren't but the whole first chapter of. The Dark Sun campaign setting could be here's powers. Here's what they do. At Yeah. It's possible. But again, Grayhawk Dragon Lance and spell jimmer. Hey. Thank you. For listening to the show, telling your friends, telling your enemies and just being here. "<music> welcome to magic Monday a sideshow of the Kevin long show a production of Southgate Media Group. You can find us at W._W._W.. Dot Southgate Media Group Dot com the music is twisting from in COMPUTRAC DOT COM royalty free music as long as you give the dude his props this episode God of Magic Monday is brought to you by tweaked audio. Do you have a podcast fan in your life for thirty percent off free shipping and a lifetime warranty head over to tweet audio dot dot com or you can either through our link Southgate Media Group Dot Com all right. It's that time in the weekend time for magic Monday and kind of by default and we have a two for one this week because with the basin of the angel comes the basin of hidden dangers so let's start with the basin of the angel so it doesn't say where this book or other this Dragon Magazine one forty five is where you can find this or you can just by the encyclopedia magic. It's in the very first book 'cause they go in Alphabetical. Radical order so here we go basins are shallow around containers crafted out of ceramics pottery or metal. They are carefully used to hold water for washing hands. Fee oral hygiene enchanted basins generally have magical water that performs obs- pus specific specific function. It's boss Katty so here we go the angel the base into the angel the X. P. and G. P. value are all the same for both chaotic good lawful good and neutral good alignments the X. P.. He is seven thousand five hundred the G._P.. Value is thirty three thousand five hundred. Hey Basin of the angel is a rare highly priced item sculpted of precious metals and spidery designed composed of thousands of interwoven holy symbols adorn. The silver base while it's comparable is smooth and reflective each basin of this type has a particular good alignment either lawful neutral or chaotic nick and each of these basins sworn to a particular good aligned Deity within the basins bowl stands tall gold's that you of a Mosaic Demon sometimes resembling. Bullying a servant of the Deity to which it is dedicated with back arched arms high the diva figure pours water into the base in for McChrystal vile held in its hands the water repairs to drain magically from the basin. Jason is always full any evil being touched any evil being touching base into the angel takes two six points damage and must save versus spell to avoid being teleported three miles in any direction the basin does not affect neutral characters or creatures but it comforts any good aligned being who've use it or touches it provides a plus one d six morale bonus based on exact alignment petty and so forth of viewer or the toucher water from the base tastes cool and refreshing to all good aligned beings who drink from it for drinkers of the same alignment as the basin it cures disease anchor light wounds with a a single sip once per week per individual a priest of the basins alignment who follows the basis patriotic deity may drink of its special waters in gain their benefits as often as he or she likes maximum once once per day still a basin of the angel does not realize it's full potential and telling ninth level priests places it within a permanent shrine to the property if the priest then lives in the. Lease in the best manner of his or her faith always never straying from alignment the following Layton powers occur to the device it radiation protection from evil in two hundred forty yard radius it causes all evil creatures or characters who attempt to enter the Temple of that house the base into save versus spell at minus one or be affected as a lizard expelled repulsion it endows the shrine with a Guardian Angel Momma vehic diva or of average hip points and abilities. The Guardian appears only wants at the time of the pimples greatest need as determined by the D._M.. Base into the angel is about five feet high in two feet diameter and weighs one hundred eighty pounds. It is very awkward to carry all water taken from it becomes non-magical unless consumed within three rounds terms and the basin of in danger basically does the exact same thing for evil people and curses good people so there you go to basins for our holy temples or unholy temples and you could have a lot of fun with those. I'm actually thinking about putting an angel the base in in hope a city. It's actually just a church in the undying a section of Wonderland. It's going to be a lot of fun can't wait till you get to that part. You can read all about it so hey for me myself and I am hollowing Godspeed again. Thank you for joining us for magic Monday production.
SMG Fall Promo
"Hi Jesse Jackson here. On a upcoming episode said listeners are on Gessler. My guess. Lugar Rob Southgate was on the show. Talking about here's musical biography, the new types of episode redoing doing onset listing bruins called t time with Terry the premises. You picky song for every decade. You've been alive. That's the only. Rob gave an absolutely wonderful song selection. In the reasons he picked the songs were too so special. Look forward in the settling births feed soon however at the end of the episode I asked him what was coming up, and he gave several things that are happening in the Southgate Media Network things that Martha in he are involved in in one. That is wonderful daughter Molly isn't often and I thought. This was good enough that we should share this around the network. So here we go so rob. This'll come out in a couple of weeks. Obviously take some time to edit as you well know. What do you got coming up in? October okay well I hope we won't be passed quite on it. I don't want. They will be every year we do. A lot of live events, a lot of things and comic cons, and what have you? First of all I suggest following us at our website, which is South Big Media Group Dot. com follow us on facebook there as well. Free if you follow us on twitter, it's at S. N. G., pods and Imax at our southgate and I'm also on Instagram as Rob Southgate so the reason I'm saying that is. We have a lot of live stuff. If you follow us on those things you're gonNA, see post about them. If you can make it out to something, police do twenty ninth is going to be after this post. We're doing our fourth annual SM. G. podcast marathon at that doctor who cafe I mentioned The boombox cafe in Elgin. Illinois those episodes will be on our feed live at the blue box if you want content. Go to go subscribe to live at the blue box because there's. Hundreds of shows from things we've done there and our pike birth on is a real white cut really interesting, fantastic stuff. I dare say it's the best. Pocket merrythought eighty August marathon in existence. And I'm excited for that now. It might be talked. Already because on October six at the over world. Theater venue in Chicago is right by Wrigley Field. Just like the metro that I mentioned. We are doing the first ever women in podcasting festival. And the reason that happened number one one of the tenets of our businesses. We always said Hey, my will doesn't look like a bunch of forty year old white suits. My world has all sorts of people, and at least half of them are female. At least so why why is it I go to podcasting things that it's like eighty percent ninety percent forty year, old white guys. So, we started the women of podcasting festival as a way to change the narrative. It's awesome. The shows are a feminist marathon. What it is is we said that they actually shows that are hosted by female identifying house. Does it mean that a man can't be on the show? So like. Or, just a new black of Martha's the host for that I can still be on the festival with her hosting, because it's her shop, right? What we put together is just an absolutely. Fabulous lineup is a daytime performance. If you could make it that one because we had to pay for venue, we do have to sell tickets to that and we really really need to sell tickets now. If you can't go and he wants to support us, you can either order ticket and just not show up. which would be terrible. Were we have a donate button at the website? If you go to the website click on the poster, four whip women in odd casting festival. And there's a donate button and you can help. Support it because if we don't sell enough tickets. Guess what we can't do this again next year. And we already got women that are ready to from all over. People are coming all the country to to be on this marathon. His festival it's it's five hours and I I mean we could do. We could do three days with it, but I can't. If we don't sell any tickets, so it's really it's just a really important thing. That's very special loss. The that will also be on. At least on the website at southgate. Media Group. I don't know if I'M GOING TO END UP MAKING A. A festival feed the Paul. Thanks because we do a lot of these kinds of things we're actually talking about doing a festival on diversity and bringing in our voices, and show that like what's again, not a bunch of forty dudes doing this. There's a lot of interesting ideas out there and people with you know I. Don't care who you are. If you have the flash you of the Flash, IF YOU BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN, you love respraying springsteen and you've gotTA show about it. It should be highlighted. Let's see what else are always doing stuff if you just gotTa. Follow us on things, and you'll see it on there. We do have a patriarch as well for Southgate Media Group, and Jesse and I have been talking. We are going to actually set up I think Bruce. Going to be helping him out with that and we're probably do that across the network because. It does cost to do these, and it would be very helpful. If people through a buck in here and there that would really really make a difference. What else? What were they if you happen to be in Chicago? During December! Molly is starring in a show at a theater. It is the world's first science. Fiction and fantasy themed theater exclusive theater. And this is their year ed for their Christmas show their holiday show. They're doing a show called the winter wolf at actually wrote it. With Molly. Mind is the lead and she is going to be twenty performances so if you could be in Chicago December. Call seat aware wall. Because you you. You're crying here. You're going to see some terriers in that is. It's motion. All add. It's it. Is Science Fiction Easy? It saw it's based on a German full tale. It's all I got. It's it's just beautiful. We re through. A year ago and the people who had no idea it was going to be made into show. People were crying. Somebody Research antedated said. Please put this on stage and use this gas. And while he was a little kirwan itself there. You got everything.
PodLife: Interview with Rob Southgate
"Just make a good one. All of these. Tell you the stove. And the thing when you've got no. Tell them. Sure. Hello, everyone and welcome to a new podcast episode of a little bit everything you listen to next up everywhere. You're gonna hear this on the feet. If you listen to set lessening, Bruce, you're gonna hear this on the feed. And who knows how many other podcasts be how many get hey today. I'm thrilled that I get to talk to my podcast leader and my podcast partner. Rob southgate? Hey, rob. How you doing Jesse? I'm so happy to be here. I like how you went from happy to thrill that kinda you stumbled out happy and went into thrill. I'll take it. I'll take thrilled. Yeah. You know? Rob was is wonderful. He he kind of co facilitates, and we just talked about this before we hit record. He's always a little embarrassed. When we talk. About him and Martha running our network, and and they do to the degree of they do all the behind the scenes stuff. They make sure that there's enough money to pay for the bandwidth, and he uploads are episodes, and he tracks are, you know, kind of where our downloads are going, and and gives us advice when we need it. But the reality is, you know, this is the Southgate media family. And I do think it's a family is kind of this big tent of if you're if you're passionate about something if you are respectful to each other, we want you to share your story. And I was I've been lucky enough about three years ago we joined and this has been just a wonderful podcast experienced. So I'll start out the episode just thanking you and Martha for all the joy and help you've given me. I will definitely pass that onto Mark. And Jesse you know, that every time you say, thank you, we boomerang it right back at you think you just in fact, the way this happened the way you ended up with us is we actually interviewed you for another show for the cons. Yes. And we just great time with you. And we said, hey, if you ever wanted to something and lo and behold, you did you wanted to do a lot of things. And at first I think you felt like you had to ask permission. Can we start this show? Can we do that? Once once we're you know hooked up. You know, the way we've you it is. It's your house. It's your family. Let's let's make things happen. Let's let's feed your passions. As long as you're passionate about it as long as it's it's real. Why not? Yeah. In fact, earlier today Charles, and I did it episode of next everywhere. And Charles brought up that it's been three years. We've been doing the show. And so, and that's you had interviewed me. But you you were so kind you said you reach out to me said, we we have a great family version of for doctor who, but we want a doctor who specific kind of show review. Would you be interested and a Mike? Sure that sounds fun. And so I grabbed Charles who has been a who've Ian for twenty thirty years, and yeah, just started. So it's been such a great time. And so, yeah, this is I just think one of the cool things that. Southgate media has foreign is we have a wide diverse of shows. We do you know wrestling. We do TV talk. We do, you know just music. We do a little bit of everything gaming, and you are a very supportive. You know, go be creative. Go go. Try something be be bold. You know? And we're here for you. And you know, and if you experiment, it doesn't work out. Okay. That's that's all right. Yeah. Totally and we truly define success by are you having fun. Are you getting engaged are are you enjoying this experiences? It fitting something for you. And the rest of it will come. That's exactly how we look at it. And it's all about fostering creativity. And that's really what were your for. We've you what we do. I don't know if we ever gonna chance to say this might as well blow it out here. We've you what we do is ministry. We have never taken the approach that this is a business. It's all about making money because frankly, podcasts are tough to make money at are there ways to do it. Sure. Do I know ways to do it? Sure. But as soon as we do that, it changes everything here. So we would rather view it as. Ministry and say, what do you need? How do I support you give you a platform and help your creativity? And I think that's the culture that we've built here. I totally agree. And which is a perfect segue is a, you know, we joked about this. And we've told the story that you know, when I reached out to you and said, hey, I wanna do a Bruce Springsteen podcast. You're like great. Okay. You know? No. I don't have to come up with this is my what I think what I'm going to do, you know, no pitch. No, no. Of course. My name is Jesse. And I wanted to Springsteen podcast, and it was already a yes. And you know, and then because you're my friend, you said Niamh curious, what do you think in? But it wasn't. It was just truly because you're interested in. So I how many months ago did you first bring up the idea of a book, and we'll stop right here in kind of saying, we're we. We have started a Kickstarter to help help with the cost of we are putting together a book of podcasts stories Ryan. So we're gonna talk about that. But that's why we're really here. It's not about like the network or anything, but that was a nice little precursor to it. So let's talk about first off. Why don't you? Go ahead and give us the link for the Kickstarter, and I have it in the showed into more Pete it again at the end. But. Okay. Well, boy, just a quick link. You caught me off guard there Jesse because the name what you look up is pod. Life one word pod. Life podcasters stories. The reason I hesitate there is when you when you look at when you hit the the bar at the top. It doesn't actually just say like, you know, Kickstarter dot com. Yeah. Pob life. It's got this other thing going on. So I mean, if you look up south gate media group, if you look up pod light any of those things are going to bring up this book. Okay. Perfect called pob life. All right. So I know little bit of this story, but I'd love to hear everything, and we are giving we're kind of double dipping because if you rob does a wonderful introduction video on the Kickstarter page, and we're gonna go through the same ground. I think here, but it's okay. You can hear it twice. Yeah. Sure. Tell me where this kind of what was the Genesis of doing a book about not how to podcast, but about podcast. Casting and the effect it had on people people's stories. Okay. Big question. Let's start with how it's how this whole thing started. Which was what you I ask about a year ago. Martha and I'm Martha being the other half of south gate media group, actually, I should say the other third 'cause Molly has really grown into being one of the partners, even though she's ten she's kind of in charge. Yes. We we were. We were interviewing Julie Halloway who is a an author an artist who's put out a bunch of books called the entre poor within and they were doing a book launch for for their third book. I believe it was and out of the blue box cafe which is a doctor who cafe ironically since your doctor who guy out in Elgin, Illinois, Chris there had asked if we could come out, and it interview some of the people that were on this book. So I interview Juliet I interviewed a few of the other authors. And while we were there. Julie said, hey, you know, the next one is about being a creative entrepreneur, you know, entrepreneur in the creative field, would you guys wanna do this? And Martha I said, you know, what I've never written in a book. But yes, and there's actually a little little bit of a story to that to that. You might not know just you'll tell you that too in a second. So what ended up happening was she gave us the parameters we started like looking into it. We run our chapters. We reached out to a few of our friends that are also creative entrepreneurs and very quickly. This book started fill up with I'll say Southgate media group and friends of south gate group people. Ed, it was like, wow, we very quickly helped put this book on the fast track. And. Very proud of what we wrote for this book. I think it's it's really great. Well, you know, how we work Jesse immediately. After that, we started talking about, you know, what would be great if somebody just interviewed podcasters into this same type of book where it's just a compilation of essays about a topic. Let's do it about like getting started in podcasting. Okay. That's where it started. Let me go back though because there was one other little bit. I wanted to touch on. I do thing Facebook, and I don't do it regularly. So it's not the kind of thing that you're gonna go wait every day. No periodically. I do thing that I called dream posts. Yes. And I talk a lot about dreams and achieving your dreams not like dreams of. Oh, it's a rolling Donut a snakes Innovest. It's not that kind of a dream. It's like your dreams about what you want your life to be. And I post a lot about that number one to encourage me number two in courage, everybody that reads my Facebook page, right? And when I first started it, I it was a little project where I said, okay. I'm going to do this every day for thirty days. That was a mistake. It was really hard to do that every day for thirty days. I did it. But it was really hard. You know, I'll step in every November. My sister started to in in my family. I'm sure other people. Started. But my sister started doing a gratitude post since thanksgiving every day November. And and so for the past two or three years I followed that tradition and it is challenging yet. Very rewarding to say, okay. How do I say that? I'm grateful for my lovely bride different than I did the past two or three. But in what do I kind of talk about and in so Yes, Anything thirty days in a role is it's har- it's hard in especially when you're trying to be creative. So I that and it is I always enjoy reading your dream post. And it gets me to think which I know is part of the reason you do it. Yes. Yes. And actually, I have this philosophy that that in order to make dreams reality. We have to say, I know a lot of people say dream and dream big. And write these lists while this, okay? Great. But something happens when you publicly put it out there. And I also encourage people when we do this. And that's why I always try to be very open share these ridiculous dream sometimes who cares if they're ridiculous. It's a dream. But I also encourage people when they read it. I'll say okay today. I don't wanna hear your dreams. I want you to read through the past dreams and figure out who you can help whose dreams you can make reality. Now, this is why went back to this one of the dreams. I put on there as I wanted to write a book, I've always kinda dreamed of that it's one of those things like I'd never really expressed. And I didn't know if that was ever going to happen. But I always had this like I kinda picture my bookshelf in a few books on there that I had written. And I didn't know how it was over going to get to that point. I just put this out there. Well about that same time that Juliet ask us one of our podcasters was working on a podcast book and ask if I would collaborate and right? You know, we'd read every other chapter sure that that fell apart. It was it was really hard to do that. Then Julie asks us to write for entrepreneur within which is coming out soon volume four, and that was when we said somebody should do this. And then, of course, the way we work is we said, why are we thinking somebody else should do this? Let's write a book. So it was making that dream. I think it was all ready reality because somebody had asked me to do it that was on that trajectory start doing it with Julie. And now we were going to have our own book. You know, I'm so glad you mentioned that I've told the story many times that one of the reasons I started settling Bruce is I didn't see I wanted to hear a Bruce Springsteen podcast. I wanted to hear stories that Bruce fans and per your suggestion other music fans share their passion their story. So in the spirit of lighting a candle instead of cursing the darkness. I made it happen now than there's. Four or five other Springsteen podcast out there, and and they all have little different ditch in. I'm all proud of them. I feel like we're all part of the same family. But I love the idea of why are we looking I wish someone will write that book versus? Well. Why don't we write the book? Exactly jesse. You want to write that book? We'll we'll even help make it happen. Right. In fact, follow this model. This model is such a good model. Right. And if you as the producer of it, like, I've taken a very active role of you know, Martha are doing this together. But I've I've kind of been spearheading the communication part of it. And what will happen is a read somebody's chapter. And if I think maybe they need to go a little deeper, maybe needs to be a little more. I'm right in there. Hey, it's a little short. And I know you have a better story than that. And and then I've gotten some revisions, and I've gotten some just amazing stuff back. So you as the producer of that book? Same thing, you you are the one curate in it. But we've since we're going through this. We can certainly do it under our own rela or just help you out. So Jesse I wanna see a book within a year. I want the set listening book. Okay. First book out. Hey, I you know, what I I I in down. Okay. That would be interesting. You're going to do it. Yes. So so let me go back to the last thing just to finish up. So so we we end up writing are we ended up putting it out there. And we basically went to our podcasters. I people that were with us. And we got some response. Bunch of people said, yeah, yell do it. You never know. You know? So we started putting deadlines just to kinda see what would happen and JC McCray. Who is on gaming with Scott? Out of the blue sends in the very first submission. I had no idea he was working on. Okay. And what we've done is. We sent out a list of questions real basic things that we said look use these springboard. You know, what was your best gassed? Well, how has your life changed since you've been podcast in? What advice do you have real basic general stuff hoping that people would expound on that? Right. What we got back. Very first emission JC. Was this deep emotional lake gut wrenching story of how he got into it. And what it means to his life. And I mean, I I really with chills. I was remember I was laying in bed. It was like ten thirty at night. And I looked over Martha. I said you gotta read this. She goes read what you know. At ten thirty got reduce chaper. This is our book, and we both sat there going. Oh my gosh. This is what we expected, but this is what it has to be. And I really, you know, kudos to to to to JC forgetting that out to us. I mean that was amazing. So I ended up posting it to the group and then a flood of submissions came in. And anytime somebody doesn't go deep like that we recommend. Maybe maybe touching a little bit further just to see because we know you guys have great stories. Molly wrote a chapter. Okay. Tenure old now. Yes, we've had to do some grammatical fixing on it. Guess what we've had to do that with some of the adults too. I have no doubt that my chapter was one of those. But yes, here's Jesse. But anyway, she she went deep light. I was very surprised by what I was reading. And I. Was very touched. What I read Martha's chapter. I actually cried. And Marco sitting next to what she goes. Are you are you crying? I'm like. Nope. And I mean, literally down the face it's beautiful. And and what this book is not about being a podcast, or it's it's it's a story of being inspired. It's a story of getting over obstacles, and and things fears things that stop you. And the biggest one being I hate my voice we hear that from everybody. It's like, you know, what that's a running fem- in this book. We should call it. I hate my voice. But the reality is these people have gone past that, and and tried something and the reward has been immeasurable. And and that's what this book is about its people that just wanna read inspiring stories of people, overcoming obstacles, real life stuff. It's I can't say enough about it. I I agree. And I'm so I've read some of the chapters. I'm looking forward to reading him. When else, you know, I sit down to write my chapter, and as you can tell from Rob's discussion he reached out to everyone who hosted a podcast, you know, in the south gate media. And then among his other friends podcasting is a we are community, and there's not a lot of competition between us it's just all, you know, you're gonna find your audience. We just wanna help everyone share their story. So, you know, I started writing, and and you know, what what do I want to share? And I you know, I got to thinking what what does what? In my inner soul. What in my creative life, this podcasting? Give me what's the payoff because that's what I started thinking about because you know, this morning. You know, I've already talked Charles about next up everywhere you, and I are talking I've edited podcast and before I done this. I would have spent the day, you know, catching up on TV or just doing something else. And and I have found that I enjoy being creative in making content more than I do watching content. Still something that happens. You flip. Don't you do and don't get me wrong. I still watch a lot of TV. And I love it. And I still listen to a lot of podcast that I'm not part of that. I love listening to. But there is something about if I have a choice between you know. I'm going to watch the, you know, the latest Sifi, you know, dark matters killjoy or I can talk to someone about doctor who or Bruce Springsteen. Well, you know, most times I'm going to talk to him because I get so much joy out of that. I get joy learning and hearing people's stories and exchanging back and forth. Yes, I completely agree with that completely. And it's important. And you know, there are people that say, oh, I could never do it. Or they have a fear of it. That's understandable, to you know, I'm just thankful for the people that have been able to overcome that fear and found that this was what worked for them. And one of the great satisfactions. I get is an especially I talk about settling Bruce a lot because I feel like that's my little baby. You know, I kind of came up with this idea. Yeah. Is in people will. Oh, I don't have an interesting story. I said yes, you do. Everyone has an heiress story. Oh, I'd be too nervous. Look after you'll forget after a minute. And it's just like you, and I are talking on the phone and pass guests now chime in to tell reluctant people. Oh, you will love it. You just it's so much fun. Just he makes it so easy. You know, you you so wanna share your story? And so I think it's the same thing. Not everyone might want to take because there is a little bit of work and doing a podcast. I mean, it's not sitting on a roof in one hundred five degrees putting shingles. But is some homework, and you do some work and everything, and if you aren't going to enjoy that part of it, you know, this may not be for you. But there is a joy. In participating in this community. Yeah. Totally. And you know, what if that isn't your thing, or if you have complete fear event that when you find somebody like me who who will help with that stuff that one of the things that we did from the beginning as we said to people, look, you may be intimidated by the editing by the putting together by setting up your social media will handle all of that. Until you feel like you can stand and then walk and then run. You know, at this point Jesse you're doing you're doing at all we we facilitate getting things up on there. And we share ideas to try to help you build what you're doing. But you've really built all these things. When in the beginning, you were kind of like, okay, rob, you edit, and you know, that that has changed, and that's how it is for almost everybody in our network. And when I say that that's not a slam there just some people that just that's not something they enjoy or they're still newer at it. They're still learning. That's all good too. That's why we set up this way. It absolutely is. And so not only has this helped my creativity. But you know, I'm I'm in my fifties. And it's helped me mentally because I had to learn new skills. I had to learn new software. I had to do this because I was motivated to do it, which is nice. In a big proponent of that too. Is. Many what I find a really good podcast episodes are when someone is sharing part of themselves. And so the chapters I've read so far has it's it is a very open sharing of your journey. And whether you're like, I read I love reading I have no interest in doing the tour to France bike race ever. But when I read a professional writer, not even someone who's who's gonna even a chance just the domestique some at one of the guys on the thing, but you hear about his journey and his motivation in what he does. And why he's doing what it gets out of it? I find that fascinating. So whether it's sports, whether it's music, whether it's litter, you know, TV writing book writing, Dan. And in this case podcasting. We are sharing ourselves. And that human connection is what I think is gonna make this book pretty special. I totally agree. I feel very blessed that we have gotten types of stories we've gotten I think it's a really special book. And that's why we're putting everything into it to make make sure that the editing is really good. It's not slept together. We're making sure that the yell like we have a vision for the cover which is not what you see on our. Yeah. On our Kickstarter. We are working with professionals that really are understanding the vision of wanting to work on this too. So I know you've mentioned Martha and Molly, and I've have it anyone else that our audience might know that are gosh. Here's. In my opinion, everybody, I can just roll some of the names out. Well, first of all, they're not all from our network as you mentioned some of them are friends of ours. And some of them are people that that I had never met. I just posted out there. Hey, we're looking for people to contribute or a friend of a friend of a friend said, hey, I know somebody, and we got back some pretty amazing people Cynthia be missed Abrams is one I want to bring up. She does a a podcast about TV her story, which is really good. And very, you know, she's a she's a professor, I believe watch. I'm probably wrong. She's gonna write to me and say, no, I'm not a professor, but but this is somebody who when I read her chapter. It was like this is really excellent. And I feel so thankful that she wanted to be part of this. And she seems to be very faithful to be part of it. Eric scull who is from muggle cast, which has been a podcast for ever every time you go to IT. And look at the top fifty muggle there. He's one of those guys, and he said, I would love to do this. And he wrote a great chapter about his experience from the dawn of podcasting. We've got J B Anderton from who thirty seven. That's another. Doctor who podcast. We've got Scott Trento from gaming was Scott, Ken, mice doesn't officially have a podcast. He was a superfan of the Nuff said podcast, which I do about marvel stuff. And we said, you know, what we had him on his guest, and we really liked him and said you wanna be part of the team. So he has not really even done his official wauneta podcast. But he's guest. It a lot with us. And he's been very involved, and he wrote a great chapter about what it means kind of getting into it. Yeah. So I mean, we we've had great people a lot of people that, you know, the podcast award nominations just came out. And we have a whole group of people that are all in those final nominations. We've got Troy Heinrichs and Erin Peterson and scottclark they are all nominated for podcast awards on Jeff marr sick. Who was one of the original people that came to us? We had hired anybody outside of Martha. And I and a couple of friends we put a word out. We wanted to Walking Dead podcast Geoff road in and Jeff ended up being this great writer and great podcast her, and he writes comic books, and he's just this awesome guy. And he wrote a chapter. I mean, there's just got got thirty names that I have revealed, but we actually have about thirty seven submissions at this point one of the this is what's crazy. So as these were coming in and now that it's getting closer. We've had more people saying they wanna write chapters. Well, guess what we can't make this thing. The, you know, four volume, you know, Lord of the podcast what we're gonna do is make volume to make volume three after this one launches. So we're going to try this to thirty podcasters. Okay. But but on our Kickstarter now, I'm going to reveal this here. We have secret stretch goals. Okay. Right. If you go to if you look at it you'll you'll go to stretch goals, and it just has a red bar. And then it says secret stretchable number one number one is actually if we hit that goal. We add five more chapters to the book. Nice. So like I said we have about thirty seven right now. There's a couple of them that have already said you're gonna get bumped to the next book. But who knows if we really blow this out, maybe we will go up to forty and maybe just give everybody a shot on this one. Or maybe we immediately jump into volume two and have that come out in a few months rather than waiting a year to do it. Nice. Very nice. You talked about that. What are some of the other goals that were offering for kick starter? Why are you talking stretch goals goals are awards? I guess war goals. That's the only stretch cool that I'll reveal lock them to see what those are. But rewards for contributing. Yes. Yes. So there's a real basic one for a dollar which I mean, come on. It's a buck. We call that. When new note were just because you know, it's a podcast joke. Podcasters go. And then it's not funny. A second later. So you gotta love that title that one basically for dollar you get to read a chapter early. So we'll send you a chapter that we're not gonna to release until the book comes out. But within the chapter that we get to read it before it launches for five dollars. You get a digital copy of the book. So right there. There's a value. You think you want to get the book five bucks? You got a kindle edition of it for twenty dollars. You get a print copy and the digital copy nice. And and that one we've already had people jumping in on which is is really cool for forty five. You get a signed copy. And it's going to be tough. I can't get everybody to sign because we got people all over the world is gonna cost fortune shipping. But when we do like book signings were events, I will do my best to get as many signatures on there as I can. You know? So maybe you'll get ten signatures on there. That would be pretty awesome. There is for a hundred fifty dollars. We take a big jump here. You get to actually be a guest on a podcast roundtable podcast. You get the stuff to you get the book, you get the digital copy. But then we also gonna do a round table podcast with at least four of the contributors on Jesse podcasters. It's going to be thirty people saying I want to be on. Yeah. Absolutely. But we'll do we might end up doing more than one of these to do this roundtable. But we will let whoever puts in a hundred and fifty come on in we if we have to record ten different episodes. Or if we have to have a couple of people, we won't make it. So you get lost in the sea. You'll be able to talk to the podcasters ask questions be a part of the conversation for five hundred dollars. Now. This is the one where it was recommended to us that we have a larger goal, and I didn't wanna go to large mar that were like you don't five hundred. That's a good number. There are people that that'll say, yeah, I wanna be in on that. It's all that same stuff. You get the podcast to be on the podcast. You get the book. You get the digital copy. You get the signatures. The other thing we're doing at that level. That is like, hey, your paying to make this happen. Right. Right. So what will do for that person? Is we're going to add their name in the acknowledgments of the book. So there's going to be an acknowledgements page were limited to only four people. So it's really special. Okay. Beyond that. I don't I get a lot of people that ask me advice about podcasting and how to break into it. Or even they are podcasters like you got a lot of things going on. What do I do about social media? What I do about this. Well, at that level. I figure, you know. I don't I don't think this is the thing selling it. But I think this is something I wanna do for people. You get an hour long Skype with me to pick my rain. So it's like an hour long AMA with you alone. So whatever you want to ask you if you wanna get out and talk about the adventures movies. I can tell you why fell asleep in the second one. I'll take it talk about it. If you wanna talk about podcasting or social media or new media business or content marketing, let's do it. If you wanna talk about Bruce Springsteen, I might have to invite Jesse. Well, and I would be glad to join. You know, there is a lot of people. I get a fair amount of emails from people wanting to sell podcast classes, and they are not inexpensive. So this is wonder if they ever get anybody. I do I do wonder because do. I guess, but I'm like what? What are you gonna learn? Yeah. I don't know. I truly don't and I'm not criticizing. Hey, you know, it always wanted to do it. What I would would I would prefer because you know. I I try to help people at this stuff is let's let's not say how to do it all answer the questions of what a quick and tell you to turn it on. And now you've got a podcast I prefer like, hey, if you wanna talk about how to market it. Right. If you wanna talk about all the nuts and bolts the stuff that I had to take forever to figure out on my own. That's when it's worth it. But if it's just how to break into podcast, and whatever. Turn on your microphone and start talking. You know, and I do think that. There are things that in. I believe were pretty good community that you a lot of the stuff in. We are on a tangent. That you are people are charging twenty five hundred dollars for you know, I will tell you right now this do this Kickstarter with rob. Because I sh- he gives a lot of this stuff away for free. Just because rob loves people in this is he has he said, this is a ministry for him. This is a ministry for Martha. It is a passion for me. I just had a guest who'd been with me a couple months ago emailed me and said, I'm thinking about starting a podcast. Would you mind? I pick your brain. I'm mmediately Rebecca like, here's my cell number. Call me, let's. Right. Oh because you do a whole series of one of our shows is podcasting one on one. I can't remember the name of it. But there you do right? You kind of talk through different things where you just do. Miss new media. Yeah. Exactly. Media lab, I actually tried to touch on a number of different aspects. So if it's YouTube or podcasting or we do a lot about social media. And and you know, when people say that a lot of people think, oh, you tells how to use Twitter. There's actually so much more to it than just how to use Twitter how to use Instagram. There's a whole like video and audio aspect that we get into this just a lot. And once again like you said having that our you can actually talk about whatever you want with it. It's hard. You're trying to piece information together. Yeah. I try to put it out there. But that's also why people will ask me to consult Gant because yet they can get it for free. But they it takes a lot of work to get all that information for free having an hour of concentrated talk about it big difference. Well, I I will take us off on a slight detour. But I will. The landing. I hope back when my son Chris was molly's age. I was a coup- scout leader, and I was not a very good cups got leader. And and at the blue go banquet, even my wife's like, wow, your table looks horrible. Could you not got some balloons for the boys? And I was. Oh, so I'm all depressed and Karen one of the other. Din leaders came up to me and said what's going on? Like, I just I just I'm bad at this. She was first off. You're a dad running a den, I cannot tell you how much those boys are pre shading the fact that it's a dad not a mom taking off every week to spend time with him. I thank you. Karen? Secondly, you're a dad run in. We grade you at a curve, we don't from you. Oh, okay. And then she said third. Good cub scout leaders come up with new ideas. Great cub scout leaders steal from other people. And that's how you make a great Dan in. That's how you run a great meeting. You look with somebody else's done. You learn from them, and you, you know, in she used the word steal. But just you know, because it's true. It's true. So I've often said good managers and good podcasters come up with new ideas. Great managers in great podcasters, build on steal from the other person. I you know, because when I share my information, I don't lose anything. I gain it to you. And then you can go back use it. And then call bagging took what you did Jesse. And I did a little twist to it. And what do you think about that? And that's how we build. Our you learn, and that's how you build something better. Absolutely. Absolutely. It's not that you're stealing it. It's that you're you're freely sharing your idea, and it makes that culture happen where they share their idea back and everything gets better guess, and so I I do think that it is a especially if you're interested in trying to bring your podcasting game up in level. Not only are you helping to support a great book. But I think in and. Coaching from you is a wonderful gift that I believe they'll they'll get a lot of they'll learn, and I think that's a wonderful reward where you wanna know the the unsaid part of that reward. What's that is? Well, I'm just gonna lay this out there because I know how I work. Yeah. So I do this hour long consultation with you you end up doing a podcast, or I help you fix whatever you got going on with your podcast, guess what happens in volume to your now, an author in volume two, absolutely. That's exactly how we work because once we meet once we have conversation, you're part of the family. We just figure it out. And and it's a way to you're not buying your way in. It's just you're you're you're supporting and we love that. That's how it all kind of happens. So there you go. That's the unsaid thing. Don't don't expect me to say that on every podcast. I talk on do that. Okay. So not only are you in the middle of your Kickstarter program yet. And but you also have something coming up this fall that this is the second or third earth on third. So yeah, we're just touch on this. So people are aware what we're doing next week. So we just launched a Kickstarter. Now this coming week actually the week that this will publish. We are also launching an indie gogo for our third annual podcast marathon that we do at the blue box. Cafe that I mentioned out in Elgin. We're doing thirteen hours from eight AM till nine PM. And I think we have twenty two podcasts on it right now. I think so it's. Yeah. Well, and we keep it really tight. We try to keep them to half hour shows and this year might be the first year that I'm almost not on each year. The first year I was on all day second year. I was on a pretty good amount this year. I don't know how much space there is for me. I I'll probably have to just find one that molly's on squeeze my way in there. But it's it's a blast. It's just it's great. It's four people that that like pop culture that like podcasts that like, you know, Dr Who because it's in a doctor who cafe, but it's not all about that. It's people that like coffee and food. And I mean, it's just like this awesome. Awesome time, and we try to get a really wide cut of podcast. So it's not like, you know, because we do live shows there all the time. And we'll say tonight's Harry Potter night will do all the different podcasts related Harry Potter. This is you might have a Harry Potter when you might have a band play. For a half hour because we do a thing called music under glass with that. You might have a show about a last year. We had the blacklist followed by one about movies, followed by one about Pinterest that Martha did Molly did a half hour for what's Miley making which hadn't officially relaunched, which is cooking blog, and it was an ended up being really really popular segment last year. Sure. So so we try to make it a really diverse celebration of podcasting and new media so Lindon I were were trying to make plans to go out. And then some random New Jersey guy decided that it might be fun to do a series of shows on Broadway and. Linden. I now are debating. Go to that. If we get two tickets at go see Bruce on Broadway. Yes. So but all of that Jesse. No one's offended go to that. That sounds wonderful. And and I remember last year listening to a lot. And it's just a is a lot of fun. If you one thing you want to know about that too is a lot of the video 'cause we did we shot the entire for YouTube. But we we don't have it on their over the course of the next month. While we've got this indigo go up. We will be publishing all the videos from the last two years and make sure that all the podcasts are up on live at the blue box from the last two years. So you'll get to hear all this amazing content that a lot of it has never been released before other than when we did it live. So it's way for people to get into it and hear what we're doing. And then hopefully, built some excitement into this next marathon that we're going for that sounds wonderful. You know, one of the things that you, and I have in common you more than me. But to certain degree. We are always thinking. How can we make it better? What can we do different? You know, when you you. And I've talked about for my hundred episode of settling Bruce, you talked about how we're, you know, I'm doing these newbie episodes. I'm doing. Yeah. Yeah. That you know, I always come to things. And so I think that's one of the things that I love being part of this family is you're always looking in trying to find ways to bring people in to promote our brand. And also just share this the love that we have. So I appreciate that. I am so proud to be part of the family Jesse. We're proud to have you as you know. Yes. So I just went to Kickstarter dot com. I typed south and immediately Southgate media group came up podcast life podcasters stories. We've got twenty three days left as this. But this will come out will probably about twenty days. So that'll be sometimes you gotta wait till pay periods before you can kick in. So right, right. Some time and we watched on Friday. We only got a couple of bekker's so far word his just started to spread. So I would love it. If by the end of the week, we went we hit goal now we can really blast past. I put four secret goals on there. But frankly, those are not going to be that hide hit. We could rock it pass those and we've got much bigger goals that we could piggyback onto these. So don't feel like this is a limit. Please help us out. Let's make this thing the best possible book. We can absolutely said. And the thing is on indie. Gogo look up look up third annual SM G podcast marathon that will be up by the time. This airs can so will probably launch the same day as this is my guess, but it's the SM G podcast marathon. And I it's that one we've got really really fun things there to in fact, Jesse I'm gonna I'm gonna challenge you if you can when you look at that one, and I'll share it with you. If you want to add any any reward levels, some of the podcasts have done that. I've let further where you can guest on a podcast, which I know you're always open to. Couple of our gaming ones have said will help a five hour session. I think. I think it was Ellie. Karen Lizzy is the one that said she does a five hour world of warcraft. Nice with earth fantastic. So I mean, if you want to come up with any levels there, you're in man. It sounds good. I will do it. So I got one more. And then I'm unplugging. Okay. Martha and I have a podcast, and we do we do have done a different shows. But we've got one that. It's really pop or we just launched a patriot for okay? It's our show called the binge were the podcast if you go to Triana and look up binge worthy pack, you'll find it on there. I'm so excited about what we have to rewards there. If we it that was an easy one there's one where reward level, it's five bucks period. When people pay that five bucks. They get an extra episode. That is only on patriot is only four people that have paid five bucks. If we have one person who five bucks a month. We did a podcast just for them. Oh, if it's five hundred people well all get the same. We're not going to five hundred podcast, but the pockets we do is about a show because we inch TV shows all the shows we have a rule that we haven't exposed. It's I'm telling it now the shows have to have completed or be current from two thousand ten on. So for the reward level, we do show that ended before two thousand and ten and we want our patriots subscribers to help dictate that. So if they tell us we gotta watch the love boat, we'll do a season of the love boat and do that as patriotic only if they say ban, the sopranos the greatest thing, we'll do the sopranos. We'll do we'll do anything pre two thousand ten but only for patriots. Drivers. And then if we hit dollars, or maybe it's five hundred dollars six hundred is our main like if we hit that we do we do Twitter parties where on a Sunday night once a month will as a group pick a show. So we might pick, you know, the wrong Mans on Hulu or we might pick. I I don't know want agents shield and will pick three hours worth of episodes will all be on Twitter at the same time. Okay. Everybody hit play boom. We all start watching it and have a Twitter party where we're just all talking to each other. How fun would that be? Oh that would be a blast. I appreciate glance just so that that is our patriotic for binge worthy. It's such great show. We're not gonna we're not like, hey, let's have all these different levels. It's five bucks period. You know, it's a Cup of coffee. If you like binging TV, if you like shows like like, girls and daredevil this is the show for you. And we just doing it. It's been so much fun. Oh, yeah. I I've listened to it in. I'm. I'm now thinking, okay, I come up with a couple of shows that I would love to join you guys talk about and have you discussed. That's that's a really in. What I love about once against the simplicity, you know, five dollars just helped us out. It helps pay for the ban with the the stuff, you know. Yeah. There is expense. There is cost and doing this. So very nice, rob. If someone wants to reach you go ahead and give your social media presence in. Then we'll things up easiest thing. If you wanna Email just send it to south gate media group at gmaiLcom. It goes directly to me. Do you want to tweet me we've got eight hundred Twitter accounts? But just rob Southgate. That's the easiest one at rob south hit goes right to me or you could do at SM g pods or any of our shows. We just go to our Facebook pages for any of our shows. I see. See most of that. Although stick to mind stick to rob Southgate that'll go direct. And you direct message me there too. Which is nice Facebook. We have Southgate media repair there. We have pages for all the different shows. We have a pod life page that we did put up. So you can go there where we're gonna be posting updates and some shout outs and things I might actually post a couple of chapter excerpts and stuff like that is going to go on there. Plus wants this book comes out. We're gonna be doing book tours for it. And we'll be posting the schedules for that. And where you can meet and greet and all that too and submission forms. And then we're on Instagram. You can follow me once again lot of the shows have them. But if you follow me under rob Southgate on Instagram. I think that's it man. Just either. So everywhere, I mean, every we are doing the same thing. I am at Jesse Jackson DFW for my main. Twitter at settling Bruce. And for the the Bruce Springsteen podcast. You can hear me on next up everywhere. In fact, we have a new episode coming out this week. And I just appreciate, you know, rob, you you wear a lot of hats. You're a wonderful father a great husband, a wonderful men tour plus running our network, and I appreciate it not even counting you're working on your master's. So and and I always feel a little guilty. Like, hey, rob. Do you need from me? No, no. I'm good Jesse. I'm good. So I appreciate feel guilty never feel guilty. You just what you need you just tell me. And if I can do it. I do it as quickly as possible. Well, I just wanna say thanks to listeners for letting us kind of talk a little bit about a couple of things we've got going on. We really would appreciate the support. You know? A lot of times in my mind. A kindle, it's if it's four ninety nine or five bucks, and I write the description. I'm like, okay. I'll take a chance. It's five bucks. You know, what the heck? Right. And I think that's perfect. I do think based on the chapters. I've read I think this is pretty special. I think it's going to give you a lot of insight in some of your favorite podcast host. And I also think it will help you. Find other podcasts that you might enjoy because you are so impressed in in entertained by the hosts stories, so I. But that's any final words. Rob just please keep listening keeping joying things. Enjoy Jesse shows. They're also good. And you know, if this is a book that interests, you pick it up tell your friends that actually might even more important at this point spread the word. Help us spread the word these Kickstarter things if people don't know about it they go nowhere. And we need this to work. So we can pay for these things. So please spread the word. And if you if you can do anything, please, please do we'd love it. And I think they're pretty good rewards there. So I agree. Thank you listeners. Thank you. Rob and Justice. Bye. Bye. Bye. So June masto. Shoe would here home. Would inland. Go. Difference must story. Shoe would he? Never gave. Hugh Hewitt here. It wasn't my. If. Speak. Then.

That's just not my jam unless I'm playing spell jabber but I continue to listen to the show one because it's good good too because they are going to be releasing the information that they are using to play this game. They're D- space adventure and I'm excited about that. And because maybe after they're done it's face they'll go back to brandis somewhere else on a world at get back to traditional the indy. It's still a good podcast so check it out now. Finally the meat and potatoes of my show two day I read the complete handbook of sidewalks for second edition Diddy and I'm not GonNa lie to you. Gamers add my my question in preparatory to this podcast stated. I know no jed eye in D._N._D.. But would a party of Cyanosis B. O. P. and. Dan what kind of adventure would they go on attack. The hive mind add all I got back was no Jeddah Indian D. I am not sure if a party of six scientists genesis would be O.. P. Or not but I feel like the adventure they could go on would be to either attack the main base of intellect devours or the main base of the mind flares because that's where the challenge would be you rob a bank. You'RE GONNA win. He tried to take over a dragon or takeover a dungeon from dragon. You're probably GONNA win. You go attack. A high of intellect devours. The mind flares you my guy I can't remember if it was on me week or on twitter but there was a league for an updated version of the complete eight silence Hammock for fifth addition. I've taken a look at it and so far it seems cool just off the top they just used if taken classes that already exist have tweeted tweet them a little bit so they could use say on powders or think they used spell points or something. I don't remember I'm dive deeper into it into a part two of cyanosis unless you know for sure but I feel like thank you could just create bionic classes instead of re-skilling classes that already exist for example Arcane trickster so yeah. I'll get on that today. I'll read through through it more in depth.
I Talked to Gillian Without a Shield - Number 46
"Number forty six talked to jillian without a shield. The whole reason for going to london was to see gillian anderson in the play. All about eve. At least that was my whole reason for going to london. On the way to the play we were in the cab and molly learns. She got a role in her very first full length feature film. She had spoken to jillian once before about her acting and was so excited to tell her she got her first movie. We met her after the play and molly was able to share her news. Chilean was so sweet and excited for her. I hit as i usually do behind molly. We were wrapping up our trip days later and i kept getting the nagging feeling that i was to go back and talk to jillian myself that i would regret not doing it and i may not ever have this chance again. So we went back to the theater after an evening performance and waited to see if she was signing she was. I was absolutely panicked. I do not like to do the sort of thing. I usually cry. I hate to look like an idiot. I just really wanted to thank her for a video. She made about mental health. It was so powerful. And i wanted to encourage her i did. She seem surprised that. I wanted nothing from her no signature. I just wanted to thank her for using her influence and her story i was shaking and couldn't even look at her. Even though i have talked many times this was just me. This was personal. Sometimes bravery is speaking the truth even though your voice shakes episodes of broken to brave are released every tuesday and thursday. Thank you so much for listening and for joining me on this journey of healing and growth if you want to go deeper into the story and hear it from a spouse's perspective. My husband and i have a patriot. Only show where we have extended behind the scenes discussion of every episode which also post twice a week. Here's a sample of our latest patriots. Only companion podcast. You do that math. Pretty quick number forty six on the list. What's the name of it though. Let's see. I talked to jillian without a shield that shield being molly grace. I don't normally walk around holding a shield. So that's not what it is so i whenever i have to meet people whenever i have to Do things i have a. I have a buffer. I have a person with me. Yes i have someone. Who anchors me and my son. Just molly four yeah. It's been quite helpful and not everyone who is. My person knows that they're being my person. I have ways of of doing it. So don't necessarily know that they're doing it. Finally they might know. But i think no. I think you twist them into being your neighbor in such a way that you've diluted both of you but i know that most of your handlers have known pretty quickly. Oh this is my role. Maybe now molly knows. I mean she knows now but i don't think she knew and i still think there's a lot of times that you get away with doing stuff that she doesn't know i just kind of push her in front of me and i make it all about her And so the times that we met chilean often right. You know what happened was okay molly you go. You know you wanted to talk to her. You go ahead. And then i might slip something in there Like when i when. I had to tell her about abou the book. When i think right writing the book right i still had molly as my human shield. Yes was terrifying because i literally had to walk up there alone. Yeah yeah. I didn't have her in front of me or next to me or whatever you guys were behind me and i had to walk up there alone and say what i came to say. Yes and that is it. Was god awful terrifying and there are. There are people documented. Some of that like they did remember. Yeah but there were also be like on when i go in if i go on instagram or certain places or tumbling every so often i'll be like oh my god wait a second. That's talking to jillian. You know like it's just the first time you met them and jillian. That was pretty funny. 'cause molly had that bell dress on and then late and london. She had the really colorful poncho. It was so funny because we'd be on instagram. And it kept popping up or like. Oh my god it's another picture where molly is right there talking to him in years standing there. Yeah you didn't have a bright yellow bell dress on the also especially then. I only work like a black hide. Let me hide but What molly was wearing london. Molly was wearing to hear the rest of this episode.
