"No. I don't think it will change. It just like, I think they look better because it's not just Caitlyn Clark and it's not just Monica soda. They've gotten contributions offensively from all of their starters. And I think this team is better when they do that. But they still can't play enough defense to go to the final four. You have to play defense and rebound well to win in March. And I'll stick to that. All right, so we're on the topic of the Big Ten marylands. I think the consensus was the terps had that four seed if they probably reached the semis, lost a good if they reached the championship game. I should say the Big Ten. Instead, they fall in the semi. So I'm going to make Maryland's case four or against being a one seat. Yeah, I mean, their body of work, overall, is good. I think we saw that again, like I said, the big tech. We've seen that the committee clearly has feels strongly that the Big Ten is a solid conference, a lot of teams in the top 16. The conference that's really difficult. I think without that one over Iowa though, it was just going to be hard for them to get into that one scene. And then I think the other thing that hurt them is part of what was boosting their resume since that last reveal was a win over Ohio State, which maybe after the Iowa game just doesn't look quite as good as it did. A week ago. It's not like a house stand, maybe turn the corner, and then they kind of go out and really struggle against Iowa, so I think that says something as well. I haven't kind of honestly really surprised if we see Marilyn on the one seat. I'm not saying they don't have a case, but I just think that they're kind of maybe the last team in the group. I would expect to see end up on the one line. More so than Utah, who I think is the last team that has been some sort of conversation. Now, more southern Utah. I think they've got a better shot than you taught, but I wasn't considering Utah as someone with a case for one scene. The case because they were the fourth one seed. That's fair. During the last bracket reveal and then since then they beat Stanford and then fell to Washington state and Alexa will join us here shortly. And she wrote a great piece on just the fanaticism around the coups and Shania Twain, but I'll let you, you know, and I know shania is your girl. I was going to see her in June of 2020. I was going to take my wife to Vegas to see her. I'm indifferent. But then the novel coronavirus 19 knocked that out. Washington say, this is a great story out of the PAC 12. They were going to make the tournament anyways. They win as the 7 seed. They might be seated better than that now in the tournament because of this run. Yeah, I think they've got a good shot at a 6 type seed with the run that they made through the packed woven. I'm also giant shania fan. I am actually seeing her this summer and very excited about it. I live in North Carolina. She's in Greensboro one day and she's in Raleigh in the next in my wife. She might be in Charlotte, whatever. It's either way, it's too drivable things. I think she wants to go to both. I don't want to go there. She's going to listen to this. And I'll go to one Nicole, but two. If you want to go to the second one, feel free. So we're talking Washington state and Shania Twain and that's perfect segue to our guest. ESPN's Alexa Philippine joining us. Alexa, you just wrote a great story on Washington state in this Shania Twain connection, great story coming out of Pullman. Thank you for the hard hitting journalism, first of all, and just how great is this Washington state story and the fact that, I mean, not only are they singing Chennai Twain, they might be their friends now, it seems. Yeah, well, yeah, it's kind of taken on a life of its own, which is pretty remarkable. But having come from the PAC 12 myself in college, the fact that this Washington state team has emerged to be tournament champions and now they're again shania. I hope that she gets them out into her concert and Spokane. It sounded like that's what they were trying to finagle and I fully support that. I hope they get to go on stage with her and sing van Lee I feel like a woman. Now if that happens, forget about deep tournament around. That's when you peaked as a program, right? So yeah, it's been a lot of fun to watch from afar and I hope people, I know it's hard to watch PAC 12 games, but I hope people know more about the team and whether or not it's through the whole thing with the song and shania or just obviously because they're a good basketball team and they're definitely going to watch when we get the torment started. Yeah, and I think people generally view things through a football perspective, but just putting into context, how hard of a job that is in Pullman to get people there, Spokane is 90 or so minutes away. So it's very difficult job. And came a third gen cove done a great job there. So the cougars are in the tournament, but Alexa want to talk to you about some of these top teams in the country. It seems South Carolina obviously their South Carolina, Indiana looks fairly locked in as a one seed despite some of these despite their second half collapse last week. But Meghan and I were talking before you came on, who do you think is deserving for those final two one seats because there are a couple of teams in the mix which hasn't been the status quo historically in this tournament.

California, beleaguered by earlier storms, gets fresh snow
"A powerful weather system could affect the lower 48 states. California continues to be battered by fierce weather with fresh snow falling in the mountains, and even cold temperatures in the San Francisco Bay and elsewhere, but national weather service meteorologist David Roth says another storm is expected to target all 48 lower states, and the precipitation you get depends on where you live in relation to a warm front. If you're near and just north of the warm front, you'd be talking about heavy rainfall. If you're far enough to the north of the warm front and the cold air, yeah, you'd be talking about freezing rain and snow. And in the west, since it's a cold enough system, there'll be snow. That means at least a foot of snow for northern Arizona, southern Utah, and southern Colorado. I'm Donna water

March will be coming in roaring like a lion in parts of the west on this Wednesday, especially California. We've been following a vigorous upper air disturbance as it's been diving southward, and while everything is quieted down in the Pacific Northwest, there's still some heavy snow occurring in the central and southern Sierra Nevada mountain ranges this morning. Blizzard warnings will be lifted for Reno and Tahoe fairly early, but in addition to heavy snow in the mountains, the lower terrain seeing some spotty heavy rain showers, these led to some flooding problems, south of San Francisco yesterday, some more showers are likely in central and Southern California today, wind advisories have also been posted for some of the higher terrain in Southern California, and even in the deserts. Winter storm warnings have been posted for much of northern and central Arizona. The storm system is headed here next. Prescott, Arizona, there could be up to a foot of snow by midday tomorrow, but in Flagstaff, there will be well over a foot. Kurt Schlichter Breaks Down the Final RNC Showdown
"Us now is Kurt schlichter, Kurt, I'm going to see you later this week. I am going to Dana point California kicking and screaming. But I will be there, and I say that half sarcastically, because going to the RNC meeting, not exactly where I want to spend my time. But I do so out of duty to our audience and hopefully to the country, but Dana point, if you will say, I'm glad it's not in, let's just say, buffalo, New York, love buffalo, New York, not exactly as nice as Dana point right now. But it would make more sense. I don't know if they were in a battleground state. Separate issue, but I'm going to see you there. I'm going to be at the RNC meeting. I'm going to be doing whatever I possibly can where I can be helpful to the cause of trying to change RNC leadership, whether it be Mike lindell or harmeet villain. Close with both of them, you're going to be there as well, Kurt, if I understand, walk us through the state of the RNC race. Well, look, I'm going to head down there tonight. It's at the Waldorf Astoria, which kind of gives you. Just the thought of the Republicans meeting at the Waldorf Astoria after the semi disastrous November election. Where would they meet if they had done well for psi? You know, I hear about this obscure resort in southern Utah. I think it's called the amend Geary, where it's $17,000 a night. Yeah. Maybe that would be in the cards. Yeah, I just. We need a change, Charlie. What we're doing isn't working. We're going to make Daniel and she may be a very nice person. I don't know her. We should unify around herme Dylan because harmony Dylan has a vision of the future that involves reforming the RNC to make it lean, mean efficient. And a winning machine again. It's going to be a tough race. There are a 168 electors, three per state or territory, and they're going to pick Friday morning. And we will see who they choose.

"Their cousins be their best friends. Because that was really, really important to me. And so we were at a pivotal point. What do we do? And so we decided to stay in southern Utah and forgo that dream of working with some big agency world class agency. So when you can't work for a world class agency, you start your agency. And that's what I did at a school. I just started my own agency. And I was doing a lot of working with local businesses, helping them with their website. And so we were doing website getting some directories because that was back in the day the directory was pretty big and then some hosting companies that we owned. And basically built a digital empire helping just mama pops just capitalize on YouTube. On the Internet. But what's funny though was a lot of these businesses only had dial up. You've got to be on the Internet. You got to have a website. They're like, what? Okay, but yeah, we're a little slow down in southern Utah. But so that's kind of how it all started and then for me, there's a couple moments of clarity on where I should go. One was in 2005, I was on Craigslist because my company was expanding. We're looking to be frugal. So we're trying to get a free desk or something for the new workstation that we had to put up there. And I saw this ad for this brand new platform called YouTube. And they were going to give away an iPod. And I'm like, okay, I'm all in. Because the iPods are about the size of a brick at that time that Steve Jobs just said, hey, there's just a brand new iPod that's called iPad nano. It's like pack a gum. I'm all in. So I went to this website called YouTube didn't know what it was. And my jaw dropped. Because that was the first time I was able to see you could hit play and videos would actually play on the Internet. They didn't have to buffer all the way to the end before they started to play. And then I saw this really cool tool, this is in October 2005 that you could actually embed these videos on websites. The first thing for me as an entrepreneur, like, okay, this is an upsell. I can literally upsell every website that I've ever created. And have them put a video on their website. And so that happened for the next 2005, 2006 and into 2007. We made 865 videos. Gotten them all embedded on different companies. Yeah, this different company's mom and pop shops, doctors didn't lawyers, all that fun stuff. And just kind of embedded on their websites. And somehow magically, in 2007, when Google bought YouTube, that all those videos started to rank in Google search. So they'd outrank the websites that we actually had, put a lot of time energy effort to do. And I'm like, okay, saw the opportunity with video. And for me, it was like, okay, let's go ahead and not do website design anymore or not do SEO anymore and just focus in on video and YouTube and there's nobody really doing it and this is kind of the future and I always had a love and passion for video and that's where it started. And then later that year, we were just doing exclusively video. I had a client of mine that says, hey, there's a company down in saint George that are trying to sell pianos online and they need your help. And so I went down and met the owner of the piano store and he showed me a video that he made to showcase his piano and they're trying to sell these Yamaha grand pianos. And my jaw dropped. I was like, that's an amazing music video. How many pianos have you sold? He's like zero. Oh, man. But then the journey was over the next 18 months was to see kind of my passion and love of what I'm really good at. I feel like God's given me a couple gifts that helps me accelerate in this area, which is, you know, seeing seeing a content creator create content. And seeing audiences love that content and want to share it. And so over the next 18 months, this small piano store that had 10,000 subscribers got to 1.8 million subscribers about 230 million video views. That's the piano guys ever heard of them. Yeah, I was actually on a speaking on a cruise last January with them. And they told that story because I've always wondered why would they call the piano guys when they're at a store? But that's the name of the store, right? And so they'd get that brand and now they're very successful and because of those videos right? Yeah, and so that's kind of how it all started for me. And then that's when you have the serendipitous moment. Was when I was a young kid, I wanted to create Super Bowl commercials. And you want to figure out why. Why did I want to do that? Well, I wanted to actually create content that was funny and engaging that people talked about. Over weeks, if not months. And that was kind of my why. I was like, oh, I see where that's at. And then I realized that YouTube could be that vehicle to create content that could really elevate the world, bring joy into the world, bring light into the world. And then two with that, I'm able to feel satisfied in the sense of, hey, people are talking about it. People are sharing. And so that's kind of where my journey began and then outside of that, I met this a couple of producers down in California. And they had this sketch comedy show on this no name network called BYU television. And they're like, hey, we want to go on YouTube. And so I worked with studio C to get them kind of established and getting a rhythm and working with the complexities of the church because it's interesting. Let me tell you. Many other podcasts. It was one of those things that I'm like, okay, I'm glad I have a testimony. Of the truth most of Jesus. But anyway, I was able to see that. And they got a couple billion video views. And I literally was just bringing in content creators that I felt like contribute and that God gave them specific gifts to give to the world and YouTube was the platform. And since then, we did an 87 billion video views on YouTube and I can't even count how many channels that we've taken over a million subscribers. I know that 37 of them we started from just the idea. And implement it and go from there. So that's kind of how it all started for me. And then where it always into the chosen is on a conference where all these big YouTubers come in because they're like, hey, we want to learn about the business side of YouTube and all that other stuff. And I had, standing invitation that anyone that keynotes at one of my conferences could come for life. They can come for free for life if they ever want to come back. And

And when there is a sport being played that involves head trauma, and we've seen that constant head trauma can lead to some of these really dark places for a lot of these athletes. None of this like this is to me. This is part of a bigger puzzle of mental health in pro sports and football, specifically that we need to pay more attention. Want to just kind of say, respond to that by adding something to That that how serious is it will consider the tragic passing of Greg cars. Unbelievable. Head trauma is definitely part of that story. We've done this a couple talking talent because yesterday we didn't fly out of Vegas to like, six PM and well, we got to Vegas about one and we're like, Well, we get what we can do for, you know, 34 hours. Find a place find a place that has a pool that sells a day pass on, and we just sat at the Red Rock Spawn was casino for two hours sitting in their pool and sitting poolside drinking pina coladas. Laurie's gonna bring us some sportscasting, while the only it's not much of news, but it is all over sports Twitter last night, so the minority owner Rocco of the Timberwolves is doing Glen Taylor. To prevent the sale of the team Tallis Rodriguez and his partner, he said. Um, according to copy obtained by ESPN that they're in violation of the franchise partner agreement and didn't honor the Taylors failure to honor the tag along rights for minority Owners in which allows them to sell and also, he said, Um there's no provision in the Rodriguez Lord sale that it stays in Minnesota. That's team stays here. Well, it again might be Oh, nor stars. Hostage situation. Build us a new stadium or somewhere else so Anyway, this guy this minority owner, he's like a Has a realistic Tate development company in New Jersey. And, um Anyway, so that that came up last night, ESPN broke the news. That's big deal that you know, trying to blow up that deal and not Glen Taylor said. No, no, I'm going to keep it in there. Yeah, we would. But we would let me eggs, Taylor says. No, no, it's all good. Everything's going believe they're like, Yeah, but a lot of people are saying the NBA would make more money like good say, like Seattle doesn't have a team right now, or ST Louis doesn't have a team right now, or Kansas City. The NBA would make more money by starting a new team in those cities rather than moving. What kind of loyalty is that? I know, right? You know what it's like. Okay. If somebody wanted to start a team in Seattle, they'd have to pay the NBA like $2 billion, whereas if a Rod wanted to move to Seattle It would be a lot less. And so the MBA. It's the NBA would prefer to just start a new team in those towns rather than move rather than move. Okay, we'll see. Yeah, I mean, wild go twins, and I don't see a rod is like a twin cities type. They kind of rehab it so I had a nice waterfall and When we were there, They're like, Yeah, There's gonna be this band playing in the barn tonight or whatever. And so we went. It was a kind of my first concert. In other years. We saw this band called Dirt Wire, and And it was kind of fun. A bunch of hippies were hanging out. Do unhappy things. And my kid was like, What is the deal with that? A grown man dancing like that? It really works like that. So you know, that's how hippies fly there. Freak flag, man. Is it a small place like you would have to book this in advance right? And they had Lena handful of cabins and a handful of your It's unlike TV, So we have the TP. "Radio from how on X 96. And you know, we have the president of Dixie State University. Richard Williams on the phone right now. Are you there? Mr Williams? Hi there, Richard. Yes, I'm here. Thank you. Nice to hear from you. Listen course. I know you probably have been up in Salt Lake for two for the legislative session, and they did say that they would allow the university to change its name. I assume you're fully supportive of that. Yes, I am fully supportive that it's still going through the legislative process. Right now. It's passed the House Education Committee, It will still need to go through the floor of the house and then on to the Senate, So it's not approved quite yet, But we're advocating for that has has the name Dixie Been A personally have you had a problem with it in terms of your dealings with other institutions or with students and and explain to people why you think it's important for that name change? Sure. Well, yes, overtime. You know, the word Dixie is just not, um does isn't understood outside of our area. So every time that We go to conference is the first thing people think is you know where you add in Alabama and Mississippi or Georgia. And there's you know, there's sometimes some adverse reactions, and it just has some negative computations. And so our faculty and staff have had some run ins over over time, and they since I've been here the last 6.5 years, it's been, You know, a consistent pattern. It's not every day that we hear that, but definitely individuals have Issues with that we also with our students, Um, every year, I hear a few accounts and just this recently this last year, we started hearing more and more accounts of students that are going for job interviews. And, um, our our study that we did with Cicero Group found that 22% of them that go outside the state. Employers expressing concern there, wondering, OK one. Why is Dixie and Southern Utah too? You know why is it name this and three, You know? Is this a racist school or wife's promicin? And and it's not. I mean, the word Dixie here in ST George means something very different than the rest of world. That means that pioneering spirit in the sacrifice and the grid we know that but our students are running into issues outside of that. And so it's It's very clear that you know, there's growing institution we have over 12,000 students now in our students are going to go all over the United States, and it's just becoming a detriment. We also have a lot of students that are going to Medical school interviews and dental school and physical therapy school, and they get 10 minutes to sell themselves, But they have to explain their school and that takes seven or eight minutes and And so a lot of people have said, Well, are you you know? Are you cancel culture activists? Are you listening to be a lamb or anti five? It's like no, we're listening to sincere students. The students are our student body. Presidents are ambassadors. They're they're really good kids. We also started hearing from sponsors. Um That just said. You know, we can't carry your merchandise with the word Dixie on it. That's just problematic on way started hearing from lenders where we're trying to sell her bonds in some way. Just say what we just want engage with you because of that word, so it's It's nothing that our community has done. It's just the word Dixie means something entirely different outside of IRA area, and we want to revere that name for here. I mean, it means something very special significant, and it didn't mean Racism or anything like that. So this should be Utah's Dixie. But as a state institution that will see sending people out nationally. It's just not an appropriate name. What it forward. Have their big. What are some of the suggestions for name? Can you talk about that at all? Sure, let me get you a little bit of background. The reason. You know, a lot of people have asked. Well, why having you? You know why haven't you recommended a name along with the change? And you know this is very painful for our community, and we want them to be a part of that name process. But we also wanted to make sure that the legislators and all the governing bodies that voted on this Voted on it for the right reason. We hate to come up with the name and people vote it down because they don't like the name instead of the real reason why we're doing this, and this is the surf students and move the university for it, so we'll go through a process. We've had a lot of You know, a lot of people send in different recommendations. We really haven't started that process yet. We're waiting for the Legislature approved that. But you know, some people wanted to try to keep the D s you And how would they? You know what would be the new D word. Some have said Desert Ressam ever said that desert others, you know, Wanna base it on our loot The new Polytechnic model. Um we've been focusing a lot on Technology and in the stem fields, and that makes a lot of sense. So what we'll do is open up the process and similar to when we became the trail Blazers a few years ago and really get a wide variety of Community support love town halls will hire a firm to help us walk through That process will weigh all the pros and cons. Because this is a state institution. It does serve the entire state in the region, and we want to make sure we get the name right if you want to. If you want to keep the D. Why don't I would suggest diversity. Just sources. Diversity, Diversity, State university You got all your bases covered right there. There you go. Celebrate Diversity at diversity. State University. Thanks for talking with us. The president of Of Diversity. State University town Down south down Yes, you down South University, Richard Williams. Thank you, Richard. Nice to talk to you. Thank you. All right, talk to you. Next. 96 loves you. I'm being for real. We've been through a lot in the past year and we want to show our love for you this Valentine's Day with lots of free prices. We're giving away a different price.

And when you hear learn connect are you likely like most people say those three words who cares right. And you know there's truth to that even but what's behind those for us and what we've built around these three words in these three pillars within our organization is the entire reason why we've seen any success if we seen any at all and i believe it's The way communities should be bill. Just my own opinion. And so i'll go through what each of these Three pillars mean to us as an organization and those watching kind of think about how they could apply at least some of these aspects within their own companies organizations so the first is learnt right And when we say learn silicon slopes what we're talking about is stories and what we're talking about is media and what we're talking about is Letting the community know what's happening and that's critical and i'm gonna talk Probably go pretty deep on stories Here a little bit later but when we say learn it's silicon slopes what we mean. Is we want you to know everything happening within the silicon silicon slopes community. And we want you to have plenty of resources available to you. It's not just news. Although that's that's a very big piece of it it's not just media and it's not just stories but it's also helping and empowering people to learn how to be better within the industry Better within their particular profession

"It went into triple overtime. Ah, lot of crazy things happen that season. Uh, coach Todd Simon. But what do you take away from that in your coaching career, What you guys had to deal with? At you and all the the firing of Dave Rice mid season, which, by the way, I did not agree with at the time I was like, Okay, makes sense. But then you know, it sets the program back. It should happen either. At the beginning of the year, the end of the year. But what do you What do you take from that year when you were the head interim coach at UNLV that you live with, you know, on the always remember Yet it was a great test and mental toughness. I mean, you're You gotta make the main thing the main thing and we owed it to the players. Could be absolutely filed in in the foxhole, developing them in getting working them with practicing. Prepping trying to find creative ways to find it. W because they deserved it. You know, they would. You know nothing that were going on else that world and I was like noise. That conspiracy theories and all these things that come up that are a distraction from players like they don't deserve that. And so as a coach, you just got to focus on Which you know what you do. Okay, sure of the players, and that's always players first. You know, Coach, I'm sure you'd agree with me and we we both admire Lon Kruger for you Know, just a phenomenal basketball coach. Not just what you did it you and only about his entire career and you know to me He's one of the best ever at turning programs around. And I see you is obviously a younger coach with that same sort of ability and talent not only to develop players but to develop young coaches on your staff and just to turn a program around with what you've been able to do over its southern Utah. Like Did you look growing up? You know as a younger coach, starting out, did you look at guys like one of the tough guys you looked at? Did you look at a guy like a lon Kruger and kind of model you're coaching after somebody like that? Yeah, you know, early on, I can't growing up in the kind of shadow the footprint of time is Oh, you go to his packs. Is she being in the Midwest? You know, as you know, is kind of known for intense Styled coaching and hold guys accountable and Bob Knight Gene Katie. Lucky early. Katie went to your practices right? Didn't Jean Katie show up in a week with spent a week with US first year? That's awesome. Um, you know, I'm big in the mentors later, you states, you've come up here and spent time practice, sir. And you know, I'm a big big into Listening. Get two guys, you know, learning from guys and I was fortunate with Coach Kruger to see Just how he got everybody wrong in one direction. So focused. You could be the coach's coach, being doing film for him was getting a doctor degree in basketball. Um, you know, it's a demon solution. The answers on the film and take the emotion out of it. You old guys accountable? Yeah. And, uh, you're gonna have you're gonna find success. And especially do you recruit well, and you have and you have There's no question, uh, just joining us head basketball coach Southern Utah. Todd Simon. Okay, Coach. I have to ask you this question. I know that your focus is with Southern Utah. I know you are loved their right. And you know, everybody wants you to stay there forever. But, you know, I don't know when and where or if other opportunities might come your way, And I certainly don't want you to talk about that or speculate on that. But with that being said, is Michigan State with that if you had to pick one job like, I don't know, we could be talking 10 20 years down the road. I'm just you know, it's all speculation. But is Michigan State? Would that be like the dream job for you like what is the dream job for Todd Simon? Um, you know, I don't actually think in those terms, you know, I I guess. Mental standpoint, um Get him so focused on making kind of a big time where you are that Being people's cliche, But what can we make this into? But the other next job and then make this afternoon make it in the next? I make this into the next job after that, right, you know, I guess, Um maybe, um Tunnel vision. Of doing this to a high high level. They take care of me. Here we go, You know, long term contract at that. Really be a great president. Placing lot enjoy raising my kids. You make all these decisions that we won't be going in the wack, which which is gonna be a very good basketball conference. You can instead of looking at all these things and You know, I haven't really thinking that way. To me. It's always about Dream job is to be with people don't know how you just succeed. Give you the resource Is that wanna win in bed and you do and share your vision. Tinnitus. Universities are not living breathing organisms like they give you a chance to It's gonna be about the people that you have. So it means it's about people, especially this stage in my career. I've learned that used to be surrounded by people who want to win that they wanna breathe. Besides your own team. What? What team in the nation. Have you been most impressed by so far, like like a gone segue first question and number two. What? What do you most been? Have you been most surprised by so far. You think Gonzaga's so dominant? I love dominance I want I mean, it means the way that they're just drilling people. Uh, alive left love it. You know, I just think that that's That excellence is at a high level, right? And so I really, really enjoyed that. Um You know the kind of watching the good teams in terms of surprise, Pete You know, uh Enjoyed watching Rutgers and seen that seen them two cans there. They got toughness. You know, really value that I think they're gonna They're doing some stuff. And in such a hard, hard, big 10, it's impossible to see. I think they really surprised. I'm just damage that they've been able to do. No question. So so, Todd moving forward Now, can you talk a little bit? First of all you guys have recently just allowed fans into your arena. Can you talk a little bit about that? My understanding. It's a few 1000 s. Oh, there are a lot of arenas across the country that are not even allowing any fans and I went to one of your games and I had a great time. And there was guys did a great job with social distancing lot of friendly people. By the way, I must say as well at the arena. Um, can you talk a little bit about that? That decision that that your program has made to allow some fans, at least in the arena? Yeah, I think we're at 25% way did shut down two weeks ago for a weekend. You know they did. They weren't feeling great about with students coming back. They wanted to be a little cautious, but Now they've been here for a couple weeks. That way, we're up 25% capacity and and which is great. I mean these arenas a perfect size for mid surgery at 5360 years there, it's loud and About 1000 or whatever is gonna feel like a million bucks compared to these empty arena, but do a great job. Our administration. Here's off the charts and sure, And so it's so it's said, feel safe. They do a good job. And what else? I could have the perfect Spectators. So, Todd, I've known you for a while now, and I remember we were talking last year. I think it was in December. I could be mistaken. You can correct me if I'm wrong. And this was before anybody knew anything, really about the pandemic, and we just knew that there were a few people in the country that had it, But you had told me that..

"That have institutionally been discriminatory and to that, to that end It does not surprise me that the sport of golf where the sanctioning body of golf would bend over backwards to try to make sure that everybody knew that that isn't what the sports about anymore. They draw If they draw a line between those two things. I think I get it from that. So I want to add this Also Gil if I May and our producer extraordinaire, is reminding me about this. So the PGA Tour did cancel the Grand Slam of golf back in 2000 and 15 at Trump National Los Angeles Golf Club. This was after Trump Disparaging comments about Mexicans, So it didn't hurt the PGA Tour then, and it's certainly not hurting the PGA Tour now. Hey, Gil, Before we let you go, I want to give you an opportunity to talk a little bit about your show. Not only in the morning from 7 to 9 and by the way, I'm glad it doesn't intersect with our show because you take away all of our listeners. So I'm very happy about that. 79 A m and then 4 to 7 p.m. Tell me a little bit about it. Well, the seven and nine show is you know, I like that. That was my brain. And then the nighttime show is my brain on crack to use the old drug drug commercial. I love I mean, look, I'm I'm all about. There's nothing in the world. I love more than sports betting. There's nothing in the world that I'm or Immersed in and I'll admit obsessed with and there's no end to you know the extent to which I could talk about it. I hope to do it in an analytical way on not a degenerate way. That's really the goal of the show. And then at night we're live betting so you don't get a little wacky. I'll be honest with you, but I just want to pay you to a compliment when I leave Perrot 9 A.m. Pacific Get in my car and I used to listen to local sports radio. One day I turned over to you guys and I've never turned away. So shout out to you guys. Hey, check going. Thank you very much. Check going to Gil Alexander. Quite the compliment paycheck going to kill on that. Well, Gil, I appreciate it. I look forward to one day you and I sharing stories about the West Gate Sports, But we're not gonna do that today, though, Gil, but But, you know, I love you, my man. You're You're my favorite personality over there. And speaking of degenerate Polly Howard anyway, Gill, Thanks for coming on. Appreciate it. All right. They'll take care of this. Look, I love that guy. I love Gil. He is the best. He's also an excellent handicapper. And he does. I don't know how you could do five hours a day of of what he does. It's very difficult. So that would be difficult. I give him that would be hard to give him so we don't have to take a break. But I do promise basketball too. He does. Everything s so I wanted to talk to me. I want I want I want to take a break. I'm sorry I was going to take a break. But I'm not going to now because I wanted to give it least five minutes. So I can say some negative things about the past football program up. Listen, I was rooting for you and I'll be this week and I wanted them to be Colorado State. I hate Colorado State for a lot of different reasons, particularly what they did to my friend Larry. You stay she? I think that athletic department if I had to name one that's worse than UNLV. It would be Colorado State. So you and I'll be basketball. They were on the road against Colorado State. Listen, Colorado State of pretty good basketball team right there. There there much improved. I will say this Medved has done a good job there a pretty good team. Um, with that being said UNLV should have absolutely one that first game and I thought it was complete. They were up 12 or 13 in the second half complete mismanagement by the coaching staff down the stretch should have won that basketball game. How the ball doesn't get in. Hamilton's hands on that final position is a joke. And then you look at the game that took place over the weekend, which was the second game again. They had the lead in the second half. This team. Has not learned how to close out games. And I said the same thing last year, and I'm sorry, folks. If some of you don't want to hear this But the final few minutes of a basketball game is not always on your players. It's on your coaching staff. It's what plays you put out there. How organized you are, for example. One of my good friends and I think is a phenomenal coach. Former UNLV interim coach Todd Simon and I understand what you're saying. It's southern Utah. First of all, they're 130th in the country and they're better than UNLV. That's right. Southern Utah is a better basketball team than UNLV. Watch one of Colorado State of Watch Watch one of Southern Utah's basketball games the last few minutes and you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. I didn't want to bring up a coach K or John Calipari or one of the top 10 coaches in the country. I'm just giving you Todd Simon's named former Finley. You know, head head basketball coach. They're organized. They run their stuff. I just don't see that with UNLV. Now they're playing a pathetic team. Tomorrow. They're called ST Catherine. Their average losses around 50 points. They lost the pepper down by like 50. What TJ had to do, Which I understand is he had to add a few games for some of those games that were canceled. So this is gonna be an easy win for UNLV. They'll be able to pad their stats. New Mexico is not going to be a guinea We're hoping to have coach were on the show this week. Preview those two games which you're gonna be in Vegas Thursday and Saturday, knock on wood. We hope nobody gets the coronavirus again. But New Mexico is not going to be a pushover game. Make no mistake. Competitor Morrow, ST Catherine. I'm putting the spread at minus 40. Think UNLV wins by 40 or more. That's what I'm putting the spread on. But listen, I talked about this every day on this show. Not every day, but you know I don't I personally do not believe that desert read Francoise made good hires. I'm talking about Arroyo and I'm talking about TJ. Now. I hope I'm wrong. I don't root for UNLV to lose. I want them to succeed. I've met a royal a few times. It seems like a decent guy. I've met TJ Alexa Berger. And I think TJ's a good dude. And I love Kevin Kruger. How could you not what he and his father did for UNLV that legends I don't think TJ's the right guy for the job. This is a very similar higher to what was a Marvin Menzies higher where you have a coach that in my opinion is unproven. Yes, one a few years in his conference, But there's a fine line between winning at South Dakota State and winning in the Mountain West Conference, and you certainly shouldn't be the highest paid coach in the conference..

The Grand Canyon
"Have you ever heard of the Grand Canyon. The Grand Canyon is the Whitest Canyon in the world and located in Arizona which also happens to be my home state. It's also considered one of the seven natural wonders of the world. The Grand Canyon is two hundred seventy seven miles long up to eighteen miles wide in over six thousand feet deep in places. It's very colorful a combination of reds browns whites and many other colors because each of the different layers or strata were formed at different times during the Earth's history. The Earth is very very old so the Grand Canyon is made up of different rocks from its two billion year old history early on the Grand Canyon was actually a mountain which overtime sunk down until it was flat. Then is the earth shifted. It became a canyon and over a very long period was even underwater. Eventually a river started flowing through the Canyon which is now known as the Colorado River. The water in the river was full of rocks. So over. Millions of years the river acted like sandpaper. Shaving down the canyon this is called erosion today. When you look at the Grand Canyon you can see the different layers in it similar to a layered cake. Some of the layers are white. Limestone other layers are filled with shells from was underwater and the upper layers are dark and reformed by a volcano after the Grand Canyon was formed into what it looks like today around three thousand years ago native people who now call the ancestral publians live near the Grand Canyon. They built homes out of stone and farmed corn squash and beans. They made carvings and paintings on Canyon walls which is one way we know they live there. Another group who lived there were called the co Nina for the ancestors of the modern Yuma Havasu Pie and who a lot by people who still live around the Grand Canyon. The native people call the Grand Canyon. Cab which means mountain on its side. The ancient people believed the Grand Canyon was a holy place and often visited for miles around to experience. It's wonder after Europeans discovered the new World Francisco Vasquez Coronado and a group of Spanish explorers were in the area. Searching for the fabled seven cities of Cipolla in fifteen forty Coronado ordered captain Garcia Lopez de Cardenas and. His soldiers to explore the area they and their Hopi native guides where the first European to see the wonders of the Grand Canyon. They were amazed at its size and fastness. Two hundred years passed until another European visited the canyon in seventeen seventy six to Spanish priests Francisco Dominguez and Sylvester de Escalate into explored southern Utah and the North Rim of the Grand Canyon and the eighteen fifties. They were followed. By Jacob Hamlin a Mormon explorer sent by Brigham Young to find a way to cross the river. They made friends with the WHO a lot by tribe and found the crossing discovered by the Spanish priests which later became Lee's ferry. A theory is a place where a flat boat helps wagons and people cross the river then in eighteen sixty nine major John. Wesley Powell led the first expedition down into the Canyon. He had set out to explore the Colorado River and the Canyon. They wrote down the river on a boat and survived the dangerous rapids and finally ended up in what is now known as MOAB UTAH. John Wesley Powell later became famous for the founding of the Boy Scouts of America. In one thousand nine hundred three. President Theodore Roosevelt visited the Grand Canyon and marveled at its beauty. Teddy Roosevelt was known for his love of nature and spent much of his time outdoors in the Grand Canyon. He did everything he could to help. Preserve its natural. Wonder he worked to make it a national monument and believe places like the Grand Canyon should be preserved so people all over the world can enjoy it. All Roosevelt was president. He formed the National Parks Association to help. Save places like the Grand Canyon today. The Grand Canyon is one of the most famous places to visit in the world with about five million visitors every year. Who come from all over to see and explore it. Most people just come to look out over the vast canyon. I've been there a few times with my family. It's about a four hour. Drive from US where we live near Phoenix Arizona. The last time I went we brought our foreign kids who also looked out over it in awe. We had to hold them close to us because the canyon is a very steep drop below which made us very nervous. When I was in high school our family and a group of other families hiked down into the part of the canyon known as Havasu Pie. We drove there early in the morning and had all of our camping gear and food loaded onto the back of mules. Then we hiked about four hours down into the Canyon at the bottom of the trail. The huge picturesque Havasu falls. You can swim at the falls. Jump off cliffs and hike further into see and swim in the waterfalls. Our trip was very fun but took a turn for the worse when one of the days I slept on Iraq and twisted my ankle pretty bad the next day we were supposed to hike out so my close friend. I got up early and started hiking. I live most of the way. Even up the steep switch-backs. It was a rough hike out but the waterfalls and swimming holes made it worth it anyway along with hiking people take helicopter tours over the Grand Canyon love to raft the Wild Colorado River. They also take horseback tours down into the Canyon. And it's very popular. Hike it from Rim Durham. By sisters in their friends. Do this recently. Another main attraction is the Grand Canyon. Skywalk which lets you walk on a glass bottom path out over the canyon so you can look at the drop far

Tourism Worries And Few Takers As More Utah Land Offered For Drilling, Mining
"In late two thousand. Seventeen president trump downsized to national monuments in Utah lawsuits from conservation groups and tribes are still working their way through the courts this week. The trump administration finalized plans to expand access for mining and drilling on many of those lands. The area has more an eleven billion tons of coal plus oil gas and other minerals but as nate Heggie of Mountain West News Bureau reports industry is wary of digging being in and locals are divided on whether it should brick crystal is enjoying the desert sun at a gas station just east of the town of Boulder right in the heart of grand staircase your case escalate any national monument. We're in January right now. Crystal is a local rancher and guide. WHO's lived here. Since one thousand nine hundred six and he says he welcomes. Welcome trump downsizing the monument and calling for more resource development on public lands here to open up for logging mining manufacturing. That trump is doing. I think it's a healthy thing for this country. It gets people to work with their hands. It gets people to produce things and this vast expanse of southern. Utah's Red Ed. Rock desert could produce a lot. There's coal coal seams. There's oil and gas there's some uranium there's tar sands John. FREEMUTH is a professor of public lands policy at Boise State University. He says industry has been kicking the tires of Utah's red. Rock desert for decades access to those minerals became available when president isn't it trump drastically reduced the boundaries of both bears ears and grand staircase landing national monuments but in the last two years big oil gas and mining. N- companies haven't come in yet. Freemuth says there are a lot of reasons for that. Industry is not stupid about the cost of producing things. I think they're pretty you know. L. Fairly a stood on the market and some of that stuff is deep and harder to get to are expensive to produce and in some cases there isn't much of a market demand right right now for minerals like coal and uranium so they may just stay underground but above ground. Another industry has been growing tourism. Tourism is a nope. It's a vital part of this community. Nathan Wagoner owns an outdoor gear shop in the town of Escalante tourism pumps more than one hundred and fifty million dollars into the region every year ear and employs almost half the people who live and work there most of them in the service industry and as people come to enjoy this place at different industries are popping up and foreseeing it. Just Main Street has changed in the last fifteen years and it's good to see it's good to see that in a small town in the west and that's why he so baffled that the trump administration would shrink this area's monuments and expand the potential here for mining and drilling. He says could scare away. Tourists and damage the pristine nature of this place. It's home to towering in canyons ancient petroglyphs and the clear shallow Escalante River. It runs eighty seven miles through the heart of its namesake monument. Jonathan Pack Leeann. Who Works for a local environmental nonprofit. Likes to come here some days after work getting out here for. Shell run its rejuvenating. And it's it's kind of like hitting a reset button undermined. He doesn't want to see this. Red Rock desert become a home for drilling and mining and he he may not have to. If the pending lawsuits by conservation groups and indigenous tribes are successful. The monuments will be restored and off limits to development once again for N._p._R.. News I Made Heggie an escalating Utah.
