"I'm delighted to welcome our guest today Brad Smith. Brad Smith is the development coordinator at right to life Michigan covering Detroit and southeast Michigan. Brad, thank you for joining us. Oh, thanks so much for having me. It's great to be here. Well, this is great. Well, I want to start on a positive note. We are so blessed that roe V wade has been overturned. It's a huge victory, something that pro lifers have been working for for decades. And now this issue has gone back to the states. So that's where the battle really is now. Before we dive into Michigan, I want to ask you a little bit on kind of what the left's goal is and all these states and what do we need to look out for is kind of their broad strategy. Well, and I think even the step back so people understand what the real battle is here, my wife and I have a little girl with trisomy 18 significant disability and one of the things that when we were pushed to have an abortion, they wanted us to kill her. And we thought when we said no and did that fight with them, that that was the end of our fight. And little did we realize it was actually the beginning of our battle. And I kind of feel somewhat the same way with this. I mean, we've been fighting for a long time against roe versus wade. But I almost feel like it started the real fight now. Because now that it's come back to states, it's every state is battling and that the battle has only grown much more intense. And much bigger things even on the line now as we go state by state and each state is fighting this battle. So it's going to be an interesting thing to watch as these states do it, but Michigan is a crucial one. So it's one that we are working hard to make sure we don't lose here.

"In a way, you were kind of the shade tree mechanic for your neighbors this week, weren't you? Well, that was the plan. So we had a major storm that came through our area on Monday night. Michigan. Yeah. Is it most of southeast Michigan? 70 mile an hour wind gusts and brought down a lot of branches and trees or several trees down in my neighborhood. It was over 300,000 people in southeast Michigan without power for, in some cases, several days. And ours went out. Fortunately, I have a generator that I bought back in 2003 when we had that big, massive blackout that hit most of the eastern half of the country. And fired that thing up. And hooked up, got the refrigerators running and some lights and other things. But the next morning I got a call from one of my friends at Ford. They just had a batch of F one 50 lightnings that had been part of the employee lease program. Some of the early build lightnings. That had just been turned in and they were about to go to get cleaned up and refurbished and then go off to be sold as used. And they said, hey, would you like us to send over a lightning? We know your power is up. Would you like us to send one overseeing power stuff? At first, I was going to decline because I had regenerator. But then I thought a lot of my neighbors don't have generators. So yeah, go ahead and bring it over and we'll hook it up and we'll get a generator to one of the neighbors. So they brought it over. Got everything switched over rent was running so the lightning has what they call pro power on board. You can get up to 9.6 kW out from 11 outlets. So there's ten one 20 Volt outlets. There's four in the front trunk. Four in the back, two in the cab. And then a two 40 Volt outlet, in case you also need to power your cement mixer or your welding rig or something like that. And ransom extension cords for the truck are into the house to power the things, the emergency things we needed. And then, of course, 20 minutes later, the power came back on.

"They committed choirs, high climbs, Uh and they need to and are being held accountable. So he didn't give his. You know it wasn't a shooting from the hip. He didn't want to give his opinion, he said. I'm going to rely on the facts and to date there is nothing that would suggest that he was to blame. John Celik is the founder and CEO of Harbour Strategic, a longtime political observer and operative, and John joins us Live with this very difficult line. That the chief has to walk. Hi, John. Hey, guys, How you doing? Good as you listen to this, and I mean, he obviously has been coached, and he's trying to step very carefully trying to show loyalty to Donald Trump and yet saying, Look, I'm not going to be defined by him. Was that the smart answer? Yeah, I think it was. I mean, if you can't stand up and say, Hey, this is about me. It's not about somebody else who also is going to do that for you. Um, certainly the media right now It's not going to do him that favor and I think there's probably somewhat of an element of the fact that that event was in Detroit yesterday. And that means he is around TV reporters and others that know him well and aren't afraid to engage him and challenge them on things. You know, sweats from being Law enforcement to being a politician, and they want to flush that out a little bit more. And so they're not going to do them any favors, you know. Strategically had been talking about this stuff you know a month ago would have would. Yesterday's headlines been all about his law enforcement policy that he's working on? Sure. We don't know it could have helped. But on the other hand, you know that the Democrats are waiting to label him as a trump clone. Just like they're going to label any GOP anatomy and the media is going to keep asking about that stuff. It's not going to go away because Donald Trump is not going to go away. So we'll keep talking about this for the rest of the campaign. That's that's something you can count on. Well, what was interesting is I I would have expected him to maybe give him more full throated condemnation of what happened on January 6th and the way officers were treated. I would have expected him to work his that way that kind of Burbage into his answer. But one thing he did say is that he says, Look, I'm just trying to be consistent here. Lawlessness is lawlessness. I want you to listen to this and get your reaction Cut. Three. It doesn't matter the ideology. Took the same position on those who burned cities across our country. Who committed crimes. And frankly, nobody ever wants to talk about that, In fact, so many Haven't been held accountable. For their actions. That's tragic and it's hypocritical. Crime is a crime and Do base. My view on issues. Because that's right. On a proper investigation. That's an and I understand that it is he trying to have it both ways there or is that a workable answer as we move forward? Saying Look, lawlessness is lawlessness. Right. That's the best answer he could have. And it really does fit with. You know his perspective as a police officer as a police chief, But there needs to be an investigation. There have to be proof. And he what? To me. What I heard was he was willing to call out people on either side who are breaking the law in your clips. He called out the people who committed what he said were high crimes at the Capitol, and they absolutely were and they should throw the book at him. He also wasn't going to sit by and let anybody burned down Detroit or smash and break and burn things so Um, he is walking in line there guy. There's little doubt about that, and what he's hoping to do is to get over to be talking about law enforcement, which is a strength. I think it was smart yesterday that he tried To start off with an event like that, and he was surrounded by some of the leading law enforcement professionals in southeast Michigan. While he's talking about that yesterday Donald Trump's £800 gorilla in Republican politics. He doesn't seem to be going anywhere..

"Shows that the highest fuel costs of Michigan largely consolidated to the eastern half of the state, with the highest prices recorded in the Upper peninsula and in Metro Detroit. Of course, the most expensive average gas prices are in metro Detroit, $3.28 $3.27 in an arbor and $3.19 and Jackson least expensive gas prices can be found in Traverse City with about $3.6 and inventing harbored Marquette $3.13 each The highest price, uh, per gallon of regular unleaded gas in Michigan. Excuse me, was recorded on May 4th of 2011. It was $4.26 per gallon back then. And officials say the crude oil prices are rising. They're expected to continue to climb throughout the end of summer, meaning pump prices were going to likely continue to rise in Michigan, too. And actually, pump prices have actually been on the rise all throughout the U. S this year. Ouch! Lloyd! Ouch! Mhm they, You know, it's funny. You know, you talk about where the gas is more expensive. It seems like it would be more expensive. The the farther away It is from people. You know. You talk about Marquette being low and Eastern. Southeast Michigan being high. You think with more people in southeast Michigan, and more trucks and transportation, the the prices would be lower here, but it doesn't seem to work that way. I don't know how it works. I can't tell why prices are lower on Tuesday and go up on Friday. Other than they just they can make more money that way. Yeah, but But they say the gas stations don't really make any any money on the and the And the price of gas. They make all their money by trying to convince you to to come inside and try to hurt them a little, too, because the more you pay outside, the less likely you are to go in and get a little treat for yourself. That's true. And if you go to a gas station and the gases, you know 3 27 or 3 28. Probably not gonna Go to that gas station. You're going to go to the one that's uh you know, 306 or whatever you know and go in and maybe get you a coffee or donut or hot dog or something like that. Yeah, and they are hurting because of these gas prices. You know, people just not wanting to go in and spend that money inside when they got to spend it all. In the gas tank. And when I see these cars, Kevin, you know I'm out on the road and I see these Escalades and you know huge SUVs. I'm like, good Lord. These people are paying Lot of money for gas for that for that car. And of course she got through some politics in there. You've got to wonder if you know we heard about trucking shortages because they can't get employees. We talk about reliance on foreign oil. Uh, Republicans are obviously gonna use these high prices to to say, See we told you Absolutely absolutely. And they're going to use that to their advantage. And I mean it is what it is. And You know, when you have something like this going on, This is really a real situation. Hurting real people, Uh, every day because people have to go back and forth to work and to school and to visit and you know, people want to go out of town. They've been You know, uh, packed up in the house for 15 months. They want to get out and go and a lot of people are not quite ready for the airlines. As of yet, so they're taking to the roads. That's gas and you know it hurts real people. Yeah, well, those airline prices are expensive, too. And it does hurt. Small businesses of people aren't on the move. You know those little mom and pop stores all all the way from here up into the U P. They rely on people from Southeast Michigan heading up north for the weekend, and if the gas prices are high, people are not heading up North. That's right. And even the people who are not heading up north who are just doing their normal errands around town. You know they're not driving as much and so they're not doing as much maybe shopping or, you know, kind of freelancing out. They're they're They're trying to save their gas because gas is so high, and if they do go out, and maybe they do it all At one time, but they're not going out frequently, and they're not visiting frequently and that that can be an issue too. With small businesses. All right, Lloyd Jackson, we appreciate your time. Thanks. No problem Care. All right. Joining us now is Jesse Waters of Fox News. The five waters world. You may.

What Just are we going to eliminate the national anthem from the Olympics? And then how far we're going to take this. Because this is getting really out of hand. So maybe, Mr Cuban, if you're listening, you could come up with your opinion on that, too, Because I know you're a big supporter of the Olympics. How about the special Olympics? We're gonna take it out of special Olympics to let's move on down the line. I mean, it's getting late, and I have a feeling I have a feeling. The ultimate goal is to eliminate the anthem not having any more, don't you? It sure seems like it. And if that's the case, what would you like to replace it with? Get that someone got a choice. God bless America. Sounds good. I'll go with that. That's still like the national anthem on the Marine. I have no time to remove that national anthem. And you both times you were talking with your cold heart. I don't know his name when you were going back and forth about it. And you guys were kind of joking around. And that really bothered me. I remember. I remember because I suggested because of the comments of Ron Kegan. That the female polar bear that was killed by the mail was was engaged with other polar bears, if you will, and so I just simply made the suggestion. Oh, she was cheating. It was tongue in cheek thing. It wasn't it wasn't meant seriously. Yeah. Yeah, well, I kind of thought, But then you know, because they were mating, you know, are attempting to mate and these animals are magnificent creatures are and no doubt there. You have no argument. Yeah. So I just felt that it was Disrespectful to the polar bear and to the zoo itself. Maybe I'm wrong, but I That's just how I kind of took it. You weren't totally laughing. But and then you came on a second time with it. See, man, I don't know his name and you talked about it again, which is fine, but what impression what he said. He said he made a joke out of it, he said. All the bipolar polar bears and that that's what really got me the most. Well, that that's just a play on words. Yeah, I wouldn't take it too seriously. Great to be with you and your audience. Thank you. And it's in. It's nice because we can all stay warm today. We've got we've got 56 degrees right now. What are you in Columbus? I am and it's ah, bit warmer. I think it's 11 degrees. Well, we're gonna warm the cockles of everyone's hearts with the good news that you're bringing this today. After Huntington Bank. But for folks who might not know what this is all about why we're here today and we've already stated what has become very obvious. This is a Ah, very important region for Huntington Bank. But tell us the rest of the story. Well as we've been investing in Michigan Excuse me for over a decade now and grown our businesses. We've had the opportunity to bring our wealth team and our markets. Uh, analyst and economist, our chief investment officer. And others into the market annually for breakfast. So that gonna look out Look breakfast, and you've been kind enough to host us from doing that, And it's important to us because we have insights that we love to share around what we're seeing in Detroit and Southeast Michigan. So this is a very interesting session. That's about to occur. It's AH, preview. It's bullish. It's very bullish, actually, and we're looking forward to the participate in the growth and And further expansion that's occurring in Detroit in southeast Michigan. The car combination with TCF business of a significant platform now to work with on top of what we've already Had built over the years and Steve When the Huntington Bank chief investment officer speaks, the industry listens. That's right, Uh, John when John Augustine talks, and he's typically on a variety of shows Bloomberg CNBC at the Wall Street Journal, etcetera. Uh, he's paid attention to, and we have others that also participate, But John in particular is just outstanding. One of the things he does for our clients is provide an update every week about the three most important things that we learned during the week and has been so much volatility with particular this last year that has been a very handy Short video to Y 0234 minute video that tries to recap, the weak and the outlook going forward, he said, available to all of us online or not, yet it is and so we're pushing that out every Friday, and hopefully that's helping people are customers and others understand what's gone on in the markets and a bit of an outlook going forward. John is gonna be with us a little later here on WJR, your chief investment officer We just talked about, But can you give us just a little Taste of what may be. He has said to you. The outlook for for Detroit and for Michigan well, an improving economy, for sure, and part of this is just coming through this period of the pandemic. Part of its pent up demand. So on the auto side, in particular of relevance to Detroit in southeast Michigan, 16 million units last year looking like growth this year, if anything, impinged by supply chain Disruptions who's we've seen it recently in terms of headlines on chips, But there are other aspects. Ultimately that's meaning the re shoring of supply lines and that will be very good for East Michigan. And I hope Detroit as well. All right, and most of our industries in Michigan have Continued to recover as you mentioned, and our numbers have gotten better in terms of our unemployment rate. They certainly have an expected to continue to improve, but it's been an uneven recovery. We've seen the inner city in Detroit not not participating at the levels that Are the recovery's taking holes elsewhere in the state. It's one of the opportunities we have, where we want to do more, and we'll be able to as we move forward with our community development plan. And we we talked with you, Steve when the announcement was made, But for someone who might not have been tuned in that they are missed it the expansion in Michigan as well as elsewhere with the proposed merger with TCF. What's the latest? You can tell us about that? Well, things were going very, very well. First of all, we're proud of my colleagues. But I would tell you we have a great set of Colleagues joining us from TCF. There's just tremendous depth and strength in the bank as well. So the one plus one here is going to be two plus will be stronger will be better will be a significant Factor throughout the state of Michigan. Well will be dominant in terms of number of branches will be a one or two on most everything that goes on in the state and we're prepared and want to invest further. Help our growth on as well. Is that those in the state both consumers and business and and the dual headquarters for the banking operations that's important to people. It's a really big deal, Paul. It's a really big and I don't think it's commonly understood. We're gonna put Minimum 800 jobs in downtown Detroit bank jobs TCF was going to put 300. So this is a big step up. We're gonna take the entire building because of controlled up to 1200. So our commitment to Detroit and anchoring our commercial business in Detroit is wonderful for businesses in Michigan, and I'm so pleased and proud. We're able to do that. It makes so much sense. And so this is a new opportunity for us to expand from Columbus.

Yes, The Sunday storm is still if he it could be another. Not a dead like we're have well like we just had last weekend. Most of the snow will come Sunday. But it looks like it'll linger in the Monday in Southeast Michigan. But if you're listening to the program and Grand Rapids or Kalamazoo, that should be east of you so It's just looks like another 2 to 3 inches. Maybe a little more fluffy or snow because of colder temperatures, and that leads to higher accumulation. So you know 2 to 3 inches. Ondas far is later next week. These guys, you're gonna be more of Ah rain event before there's a snow event in the latter part of next week. So, JJ, if you're listening, the weather models are not quite that simple. What Our main objective is just enhance economic position of corn growers in the state of Michigan by providing growth and expansion of the corn industry here in the state. And that is being done through foreign and domestic markets. Developing those markets, promotion of corn and corn products that we turn corn into along with the research that will help stimulate the demand for corn. And will also reduce regulations on our corn farmers. We are here to advocate for corn groans and to ensure that our corn growers in the state of Michigan have its ability to continue growing their crap at a cost effective manner. "That You walk along the edges of done that slab on grade. That floor was cold that Florida Interior not is bad, but Just around it was cold. Oh, yeah. I mean, that's the top say that's the stuff saying to preserve and protect it and this type of climate it's funny. You say that And there's another thing with the slab on great too, because realistically if you're going to do a slab on grade And it becomes structural. I mean, it's holding up the building. Then on integrated slab. You know this, pre stressed or post stressed with steel. Sure, and you know, we don't you and I don't get in too much of that. But instead of just putting steel bar in the concrete They literally have methodologies for effectively almost bolting the concrete together, running what amounts to bolts through the concrete so that when it sets up its exerting pressure on it much like if you picked up a deck of cards with two fingers You push on those cards to keep them from sliding out where it turned him sideways. Sure, we could do that with concrete, so that could be a costly thing to do. But it can be done extremely well to the point where you could pick that slab up in 30 years and move. It would be one piece. Yeah, you know, and understand when we take slab on grade is basically is a house built on top of a concrete slab, which is laying on the dirt, a good percentage of the house's built in Southeast Michigan and a great percentage of the houses built. Around the rest of the country, like Florida and Texas knows areas they only have basements and a lot of lake properties to got built that way, where people just went up Sandy soils and porter slab and build a house. Yeah, log cabins..

"And how lucky gleaners are to have you. Well, thanks a million. I'll also give a big shout out to my team. Paul, you know, I work with some of the smartest people I've ever worked with here, and they have a way of making me look good Whether I deserve it or not, So I'll give them a moment in the sun here because It takes a team of pretty smart people to make this all happen now. Jerry Weller heaviest. Still, prior to covert 19 and the pandemic, Gleaners distributed an average of more than £40 million of food per year. So. So how is that been effective because of covert 19. Well, we're doing almost double that every single month. I mean, December was a new record £7.7 million just in the month of December. So you start looking at that times, 12, and that's your run rate, right? It's a huge, huge effort to try to stand top of all the people coming for help, but I will say, you know, the Salvation Army, the captions, the partners that we worked with on a daily basis. Evolved in there, right and all And they're still volunteers, helping in spite of the fact that there's more risk and you know, we're we're really proud of the coalition of people that care, and so, um, so, yeah, if we we think if if we're still doing this rate by the end of March, that'll be 12. Full months of pandemic relief will be over £80 million of food in that year. Wow. Well, that's double, obviously, and that takes a lot of trucks and a lot of space and a lot of moving stuff around. So just to be very specific South campus is going to be located in Taylor. Yeah, right at south Field in 94. It's right itself Building 94 not too far away. One of the things we felt good about is the access. That facility has to the freeways into the places we have to go, so that that was a real benefit. All right, since we we haven't done this lately. What? It you'd tell people, Jerry what they need to do if they need help from Gleaners Food Bank. Best thing to do is call. 211211 is the United Way Help line and it people are on the phone 24 hours a day and I will see this. You can get help within one day. If you call to 11, they will tell you where food distributions are going on. You still got to find a way to get to the distribution. But fundamentally, you can get food right now and so called to 11. If you need help. Well, that's excellent advice and idea occurred to me, Jerry. We hadn't talked about that in a while. We shouldn't ever take it for granted. No, absolutely. I appreciate it called to 11. That's that United Way help line and you could get help within a day if you're having food insecurity. Aziza Gleaners Community Food Bank has announced their 2021 expansion, the renovation enhancing operation, strengthening efficiencies toward ending food in security. They're not leaving Detroit. They're going to maintain their Detroit headquarters, the organization's home since its founding in 1977, but they're adding more than twice the size of the Detroit warehouse with their South campus there. And we salute you for that. Anyway. We can help along the way will be listening in with you and Dr Phil on for food. First Michigan on WJR and thank you, Jerry. Any last thoughts or word you need to say. Just thanks to this community of people who care so much and who support this work. You know, Theo. Only way we could be getting all this food out is they have the financial support that we've had from this community. "Katie. PODCASTS, we're happy that you can join us. Congratulations on the release of your second book, the Fallen Hero is the second book of Your Series started with the Dragon Warrior. That came out last month So yeah, congratulations on that. Thank you so much. So just to start off I, know you're from Michigan but did you grow up there your whole life? Yes I grew up in Michigan so I was born and blend and Then I moved to another area in the Metro Detroit area and I grew up in Michigan I went to school at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor. So then spent another four years of my life in Michigan. and. Then in nineteen, I actually moved to New York City for. A little bit over a year, and then like back in Dundas may early June ish like when I realized this pandemic isn't GonNa be over anytime soon, I moved back to Michigan. So I am back home with my family. I don't really know much about like the Asian American community in Michigan I know that there's a pretty good like Korean adoptee. Population there. But like I'm not so sure about like the. Asian. American community there. So did you grow up around a lot of Asian Americans so I think Southeast Michigan which is where I live has one of the bigger populations but like it's still absolutely nothing compared to east coast or west coast like my school was probably five to ten percent Asian but I did grow up going to Chinese school. So that was nice. And I don't know about Korean adoptees let the area where I grew up actually has a big Japanese American population Oh yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Because I mean it's like Detroit promoter city right so like I think a lot of them would like their families will come from Japan to work at You know un-american Automotive Company for like maybe one to three years or something, and then it was really sad for me because I would make friends with them and then they would move back But yeah, that's like probably like the extent of the Asian. American community around here it's. it was a real shock for me moving to New York and just being so overwhelmed by all the Asians everywhere and like Asians, who are like like really Americanized Asians who are also like kind of fresh off the boat. Yeah I mean if you head to Chinatown, it's you know a totally different world. Yeah. Yeah. So I heard through the grapevine that you're pretty well known what? Pad Author. So I'm guessing that you have been writing since at least highschool I'm probably younger, right Yeah. We're civil. What Grapevine was there? It was just it was just like floating around. Okay. Interesting I have talked about it. I've talked a little bit too much about it I like. I like a joke that like I want to like block out that part of my memory but no walked had was like like I might thoughts on that website but. It was a good starting block for me to like really get used to like getting like writing a novel length story and also because it's so interactive I could get like reader comments on every chapter uploaded. So that was like really encouraging and for me when I started writing novels on what Pat I was in high school. So you know I was still dislike learning how to write a novel. So like honestly other writers and readers encouragement meant the world to me back then But yeah, I have been writing for a very long time I started out writing short stories when I was like seven or eight years old, I remember. my teacher gave all of us an. To write a short story and Lake. I. Still Remember that moment very vividly I like was running the story and I was like this is so much fine. I don't think you know had so much fun doing anything yet before I always was still very young. So I didn't know this is what I would want to do for the rest of my life. But then my teacher also praised me and was like Oh, this is like such a great short story, which is probably what she said to everybody back then but. I thought I was like the greatest writer ever so. In this industry, it really is everything but not like being overly competent just like. You know just having enough confidence to continue like pushing through rejections and putting yourself out there I think is definitely key but yeah, and after a very long writing journey I'm publishing novels now. Yeah. Do you remember what story got you that that key praise? I remember we were doing a on legends and myths I don't remember what like I think it was just like a different American legends like like big foot or. I'm blanking now but you know like the kind of and talking about and I wrote about a river but I don't remember like what river now but. Yeah. I just like surprised that I still remember that moment. So vividly because it's been like many many years. But Yeah I i. think that was a key moment for me is a writer.

Protests break out in Michigan over state's stay-at-home order

"And I have mixed emotions about Michigan because my dad grew up there as a kid I went back as a kid many times to visit my many uncles all of whom are gone now and I had a great time going to Michigan I love the fireflies and everything else I'm also pretty crazy about the U. S. secretary of education Betsy to boss who was on the show yesterday I think she's a terrific public official as a member of president trump's cabinet now the governor of Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer not so crazy about her she has done some one eighties she has been inconsistent and now apparently her actions to try to act on the China virus infection in America have drawn literally a massive protest against her and threats of recall so I thought we got to talk to Scott holiday about that Scott is with our affiliate station W. I. L. as in Lansing which is ground zero for these protests as well Hey Scott welcome back to the program Hey thanks largely to being a it's been too long and of course we also had the little side issue that apparently Gretchen Whitmer didn't think before she decided to blast Betsy to boss saying that the the device family was waging war on her at a time when the device family which is very wealthy family was also apparently producing mass or providing massive amounts of personal protective equipment for some of the critical functions that are going on at Michigan barely that that is caper notice when she when she threw that little brick bat at the secretary of education give me a perspective on what's happening and what happened today in particular with these protests in Lansing yeah one Lansing today there were it was called the operation gridlock and the idea was to basically have a a socially distance protest normally when you have a protest in downtown Lansing it would be lots of people filling up the capitol lawn that were a hundred maybe two hundred that did get out of their cars but today was very unique up police said there were maybe up for five thousand people involved but it was simply cars filling up all of downtown Lansing even out onto the highway that runs through downtown now the only gridlock they were causing with the phone because downtown Lansing is all government workers and a lobbyist and everybody's working from home right now but it was certainly an impressive showing in cars honking horns all day long and there were some people that I guess I got out of the cars and wave flags around and it was it was an impressive showing so they certainly made their voices heard I mean it's kind of the goal was to get some good TV footage and some footage stand about going on social media I think they they succeeded yeah it was very visible to the whole country and their protest look an awful lot of as you know are under these kind of restrictions no matter where you are in America there only a few states that haven't gone along with that at all but what is going on in Michigan that the governor does not seem to have the support of the public in taking actions and some of the action chief Tate she's taken are almost laughably over the top like saying you can still go get food but don't dare you don't you dare buy a gallon of paint at home depot or don't buy any garden seeds to get your garden going so what some people are calling virus guards this year because who knows what's going to happen with the food supply I mean the idea that that she would lock down many things that don't seem to have any direct application to actually keeping people from getting sick well I think the the governor's done not kind of a daily briefing much like the president has been the one she gave this afternoon of the protest was kind of winding down I think was a good example of where she's coming from she cited one of the survivors that had met with the president yesterday who was from Michigan and she quoted as telling the president that the only place he could conceive that he might have caught the virus because it wasn't around too many people was from a gas pump and she was citing how long she's been told that the virus can live on well services like gas pumps and it's pretty clear from what she said and what she's trying to do that as she's trying to keep as many people home as possible by whatever means she can and that was one of the things were you know you can travel to a second home well that's cottages in Michigan which it sounds like you're familiar with a lot of people would be traveling from southeast Michigan which is the hub of coronavirus here in Michigan and traveling to other parts of the state and in her mind going through a lot of gas stations and touching a lot of things and potentially getting a lot of people second from what she said today it she was basically you know pleading with people to please stay home I I get the sense that her her alternate goals can we get this thing open back up by the end of the month and she's kind of willing to do whatever it takes to keep people home enough that takes doing some unpopular orders looks like she's going to
