"Podcast this is episode number one hundred and twenty four. I'm your host Noah Rochetta and today. I'm going to talk about dealing with people that you don't like as always keep in mind. You don't need to use what you learn from Buddhism to be a Buddhist you can use it to learn to be a better whatever you already are so today's podcast. Episode comes from the request of an email. I received someone asking me if I would be willing to do an episode where I discussed the idea or the concept or give tips on. How do we deal with people that we don't like and I thought that would be a good idea especially during this time Where you know the way social media works. We're all dealing with people that we don't like and perhaps if it's not people that we don't like it's ideas that we don't like But it's I. It seems to be a prevalent thing and I'm trying to shift a little bit of the concepts of the podcast towards a little bit more of a hot as all this apply every day day to day scenario. So this is my My approach at this specific topic. Like how does how do these concepts and ideas that we learn about in Buddhism apply to everyday scenarios like Dealing with people that we don't like so. I thought that would be a fun way to start off this podcast episode. So first of all though I want to go into the Zenko on that I left in the last podcast episode and this is where among asked South Zoo to teach him and sows. Who asked have you eaten your meal? The monk replied yes. I have then go wash. Your Bowl said zoo at that moment. The monk was enlightened now this Cohen to me Does a really good job of presenting the simple and profound way that Zen Buddhism tries to simplify the the whole point of what we're practicing in what we're doing I want to share a couple of thoughts from people from the Patriot community. Who were we had a discussion around this co on in the last week or week and a half I the first thought comes from Nancy. Who says quote my understanding? Enlightenment only happens when we are fully aware in the present moment no matter what we are doing even washing the dish close quote. I like that thought the Nancy shares were enlightenment. Happens in the present moment and no matter what we're doing even washing the dish. I do think that this definitely alludes to that where it doesn't matter what you're doing you could be out walking the dog. You could be stuck at a traffic light. You could be in the middle of an argument with someone you dislike and these are the the moments where you could notice something that you hadn't noticed before and that moment of awareness can have a A component of I guess you could call enlightenment and that's what this Cohen is trying to point at Like that thought I. I like this additional thoughts from Michael who says quote. The Bowl has served its purpose for the monk. Who used it for his lunch but now the dirty bowl is of no use to the next hungry person that comes along by washing the bowl after he has finished using it for his own purpose he then gives someone else the opportunity to make use of the bowl to nourish themselves the monk could contemplate the someone before him had washed the bowl which allowed him to use to enjoy. Its use close quote. I like that Michael kind of extrapolated out of this the nature of interdependence and how indeed the bowl was there for me to use it. Someone must have clean that before me. And if I'm cleaning it now this will allow another Monka. Some point to also enjoy use of the woollen. I I liked that line of thinking and remember with all of these know. I mentioned this a lot but these Cohen's are meant to get us to look inward so it's what you get out of the Cohen. That really matters. It's it's not about Discovering the the right answer so it's fun to see what other people extract out of these Cohen's that's one of the things that I enjoy by reading the various descriptions and thoughts and feedback that come in on these discussions on the Patriot community. So here's another one from David. He says quote. This Cohen reminds me of something that ancient Greek philosophers such as epic. Titas used to say to those who wanted to learn from them. Rather than reading. Many books and learning quotes. The students should practice making the good choices in their everyday lives so when the monk asked about teaching him he replied with the same kind of idea instead of reading. More books are listening to Buddhist teachers or on about how to achieve enlightenment. Go Wash your bowl as you should and practice living mindfully now. Of course I. I really enjoyed the thought around this interpretation of the Cohen. Because I highly agree with that you know you can. You can read and you can listen. And you can devour the theory behind Living more mindful. You're the theory behind all of these topics in concepts and ideas that we encounter Buddhism. But nothing will substitute for the experiential understanding that you will gain when you're just out doing whatever it is that you're doing and I can't overemphasize that whatever it is. You're doing in the same way that that Nancy said you could be even washing dish and that Definitely gets to the heart of what this co on his talking about and then one more thought this is from Brayden. Who says open quote for me? This Cohen makes me think of the way I go about enlightenment personally. I've delved wholeheartedly into enlightenment and forgotten about the world around me and the responsibilities I have outside the desire for enlightenment. The pursuit of that desire has gone in the way of my other responsibilities and I've neglected tasks and people in my life. This Cohen is a reminder to me to follow through with the things outside my journey and And that can help in setting up an environment that promotes enlightenment as I. Focus my whole attention on studying and learning close quote And I really agree with what? Brayden is Emphasizing here in his understanding of the Co on the Cohen is an invitation to remember to go back to washing the dishes rather than getting lost in the pursuit of enlightenment and the irony in that especially with his Co. on is that the moment the Monk hears this. He is enlightened when right it says at that moment the monk was enlightened when he realizes use has to go wash his bowl and to me. That's incredibly profound. Because just like Brayden is talking about. We can get caught up in this pursuit of becoming enlightened. And it's like wow. I'M GONNA go become enlightened so I don't have time to wash the dishes I've got to go. Sit In on my meditation cushion and you know. Hit my one hour to hour. Meditation goal for the day and in the process of pursuing. This conceptual idea we have of enlightenment. Were missing the whole point because it was in the washing of the dish that you could have found it and that to me is right at the heart of of what Zen is constantly trying to push us back to the the everyday nature of this stuff. So my thoughts on the CO on. This is an invitation to go back to the simple Understanding of the experiential nature of of life. You know it's important to emphasize here. The enlightenment is a concept. It's an idea and we we gain this idea from books from people from teachers from all kinds of places but an idea gets planted in your head that hey there's the thing and it's called enlightenment and then here's how you go obtain it and then we get caught up in that and what. We're trying to get back to in a lot of ways with this practices back to the present moment and in and to live a life. That's a little bit more skillful and less reactive and since you just finished eating perhaps the most skillful thing to do next is to wash the bowl. And that's it. That's how simple that was but to understand that and to do that because it's a non-reactive thing like I am washing the bull because I understand that it makes sense at this moment in time to now wash the bowl that is that's it that's enlightenment and there's nothing big and great and vast beyond that and at the same time that awareness that the skillful thing to do is to wash the bowl. That's it that's the magic of awareness. That's how I understand this and I. I want to kind of continue on this discussion but applying it to the topic that I wanted to share today. Which is the answer for the email I received with. How do we deal with people that we don't like well? Awareness is GonNa make play a role in this and I'll get to that in a second but first of all with with the concept of dealing with people that you don't like again just like with the cohens what we're trying to learn to do as a practice is to look inward so rather than thinking. Okay here's so and so I don't like so and so how do I deal with them? Let's look inward for a moment. And say what does this really pointing to What is it that that I dislike? Where does the disliking come from? And I've been practicing this a little bit with with my kids. For example my son Reiko he is a picky eater and he has a lot of foods that he doesn't like and anytime he says. Oh I don't like this or that you know I try to remind him and say wait. Is it you? That doesn't like it or is it your taste buds. That don't like the food and that simple question helps him to understand. It's not him dislikes the food. It's it's how he is that prevents him from liking the food and he can't help that right if you All all of us have this. I just think of something that you don't like to eat and ask yourself that same question as it you. That doesn't like it or is it your taste buds. I did the Twenty three and me genetic tests that you can do that gives you not just your ancestry and genetic information but it gives you like your health traits your genetic health reports and something that stood out to me and there was there. There's a variation on one of the genes that you can have that will determine whether you are likely to enjoy bitter tastes Or not and this will d they use it as a marker to determine if you like Brussel sprouts or not and it's kind of fascinating to think that it's just a matter of DNA that could determine if somebody likes Brussels sprouts versus someone. Who doesn't which goes right back to the heart of what? I'm discussing here. Is it really me? That likes the Brussel sprouts or is it my genetic makeup that allows me to taste and enjoy that flavor when someone else will taste and all they get is a bitter flavor that they can't tolerate so they would think. I don't like Brussel sprouts while I'm thinking. I do like Brussel sprouts and neither one of us. It's it's the genetic marker in our DNA that allows us to experience. The world and Brussels sprouts the way we're experiencing them and I think that's a really profound understanding that you can take not just into how you taste food but into the very question of dealing with people that you don't like now this to me really alludes to one of the most profound..

Fighter renegades this month and we will we'll get into all of it but for now let's get into well when we get into the foreplay. Let's get into a little a couple little tech stories. How about that? You don't just quick. Something interesting are something that I found interesting was that pay pal now is actually they they are. If you look in their APP it will come up with. There's little notification dot like on the hamburger menu saying. Oh there's something here you should be paying attention to your. You should be looking at and I remember and I took a look at it. This is maybe a week or two ago and it was suggesting exchanging money on Pale using a qr code looking at this like wait a minute. We're I wonder where they got their fucking idea from And you can actually. If you go to my twitter you can see what it looks like. I shared my own Of course if you want to donate to the show with paypal. That's a possibility of course bitcoins there as well. You can find that on my twitter profile file But and with pay pels just you can either use that. Qr Code or you can use the email address for the show. BBS IS OPERATIVES DOT COM. And I'm honored but regardless I I was I was just kind of an. Aw I mean is that in any way leading towards you know is that pointing at that may Ebi Pay Pal is of course we talked about how paypal we'll how a lot of companies have dropped out of libra out of the Lieber Association. I mean which that that. That's that's falling apart Is Is it association or Alliance. Whatever they're calling it ridiculous But facebook's libra everybody's leaving it But anyway is that pointing at them maybe looking at their own crypto and that QR codes being a great way to you know handshake with private. Keys I maybe I. I'm almost inclined inclined to think maybe not just because if pay pal were to get into crypto. I don't think they do it in the you know at least not You know user facing shall we say user facing. I can't imagine that they would necessarily go with a public key. Private key situation nation which is part of the beauty of QR codes right Or that's part of that implementation but maybe maybe it would end up being something like that. I mean more or less I I think that the the Qr code is basically just calling for What is the pay? Held me right for that address that you have set up So I don't think it's doing anything necessarily special but is appointing direction. I mean I'm not gonNA say no. It's entirely possible that it is But I just I thought that was very interesting and certainly something that bitcoin really really paved the way for is exchanging information via QR codes. I mean they they were just way on. I mean yeah you can say hey that grocery stores are on top of that game but no I mean that that's just for you know that's all what. CRM stuff right But as far as between you know your your everyday person more or less yeah. Bitcoin was totally leading the charge on the USA. QR codes. I thought that was pretty fascinating. Now it might also be a more of an international play on people's part because when you go to especially like Southeast Asia Japan and other countries around there you know. QR codes being used to exchange money in any way is an just information in general is incredibly commonplace with like we chat line. I mean I think it's kind of ordered the day awesome. I'm a little more familiar with line because I have clients in Japan that I have to. You know that's the only way they want to communicate But I thought that that was very interesting for them to to have that and two promoted in America because I mean you know they can roll out a different APP every part of the world. They don't have to rule out the same one in any geographic or you know in every every geographic area so for them to even want to push for an America. Yeah I mean it does make you wonder what they're looking at but certainly bitcoin was on top of that game. I don't think there's any debate around that of course. Some of those apps that I listed off do have cryptocurrencies or are working on them In other parts of the world you know again a lot of that is in in Southeast Asia now so that aside about paypal and I mean it all right well. Let's let's make this clear. No faith hell is not going to accept bitcoin. If you thought that that's what that Ben no no would they roll out throw cryptocurrency. Sure I don't I in fact. I think that only makes sense that sooner or later they do do that. I think they've been planning on that for a while. And that's part of why they spun out of Ebay so that they could be slightly more agile in what they do and they don't get any kind weird antitrust laws against them which eventually Amazon's probably going to face to I mean I mean you know understand this okay you have with Ebay and Amazon. Probably the two largest I mean ebay is as much a retail giant as anything else just like Amazon is as much a seller of used goods as Ebay is. I mean they really are like they. They are the kings of online commerce ebay Amazon. I Anson and they are definitely far different than they ever started being in the nineties. Right no doubt there I think one of the reasons that yes Amazon Emma's on has Amazon coins right. which can be used for digital goods of some kind? But it's not something that can be used for. I I mean you can't like buy a shirt or something with with Amazon coins. I think part of the reason that Amazon has been very has not implemented their own cryptocurrency cryptocurrency. And of course. We know why they're not going to accept bitcoin because they folks they just don't need to okay they they don't need to. I've already covered with this a billion times on the show all right. I'm not saying that I'd love if they accepted bitcoin. Well I'd love to Amazon Amazon tank. Eight okay. I'd love it if they accept bitcoin. But as we've proven over and over and over again over the years on this show no they don't have to but then then why haven't they done their own cryptocurrency while you're running into the issue of where suddenly they are the provider which granted Amazon is already trying and doing it to him. Good Job Gab of being a monopoly money right in kind of a monopoly. Considering the amount of companies that you buy from are a lot of the stuff you by Amazon. You don't even know. Oh but it is actually Amazon. Produced as an ACCOMP- doesn't have a name Amazon like Amazon essentials in it but it is an Amazon company itself..

Produced as an ACCOMP- doesn't have a name Amazon like Amazon essentials in it but it is an Amazon company itself. There's hundreds of those brands on Amazon I mean it's it's a pretty good bet unless you know exactly what you're buying You know from unlike Levi's is or something right. There is a chance you're actually buying an Amazon product on Amazon. And you don't even know it. They don't want you to know either not really I mean. They can't hide it but also they. They don't have to tell. Oh you so but I mean so. They're running into the problem of an Ebay was getting close to the same thing and they were facing legal pressures a few years ago which is why did the split is that when you are even just the money processor. Which Amazon has that to some degree as well right with Amazon payments though even that they have basically completely stalled on like Amazon payments hasn't ruled out any further than what it was? You know almost was ten years ago in all of this is because you know they have to be careful there in a very careful dance in the regulatory environment with with the SEC. And whatever else where you know if they have their own money but then also they sell their own product or they are the provider of the product and so one you know meaning that they might not create it but they are the one place that can sell it all they are running it again. That's where the become a monotony. They are running into the issue of where they're gonNA hit antitrust laws and they're going to hit him hard and they're gonNA get smacked really really heart over that. So that's the reason they've never done that now..

"It'd be more transparency in the system as always. And I would like there to be some regulatory boundaries just saying, hey, listen. We're okay. When you making money, it's just at what point because the consumer, unfortunately doesn't have the ability to negotiate or do anything in that situation. So let's just make sure we're not going to crazy in the power generating profits. There's got to be I don't want to see the air ambulance companies companies Aircar go under because you know, congress does what they do. We're going to get tough on your squeezing a little guy. I don't want that to happen all at the same time. I mean, God forbid your traumatize with with a life changing, and certainly maybe life ending event in which you get a Bill for forty thousand dollars and go. Well, what the hell do I knew now? So I think and certainly the companies don't want to be not paid because someone else for medical bankruptcy. So I think that both parties sit down the table come up something equitable because again when you're flying and one of these things it's not like you have a choice of customer service here. You get you. When when the when they call him for a flight and somebody shows up it's not like you're gonna wait for the next bus. Well, the biggest I'll say the biggest power player in all of the insurance company right now insurance companies have kind of washed their hands of this. And that hey, you know, what we're only going to cover the usual customary rate. Well, this is where congress could do something without necessarily price-setting. You got to get on the same page here. Somebody's buying an insurance policy, and they need healthcare insurance should cover it. It shouldn't be one of these things. Well, the insurance going to cover a portion of it. But then now there's unlimited amounts of the that the helicopter companies or any other companies for that matter charge. You follow the money Seth dense GDP advisors. Thanks, again, present it. They want to talk about this five one three seven four nine seven thousand eight hundred the big one pound seven hundred thousand God forbid for me for you for your family. My I hope to never ever have to to deal with that not not necessarily the Bill. But if someone is flying is a patient and a medical evac helicopter that that's not a toothache right there. Right. That's not a broken foot that is life threatening for them to put you up in a bird to get you to hospital trauma center right away. I hope to God no one ever has to go through that the same time. I if the I guess if the heart attack itself didn't kill you getting that Bill would at some point. Hey, John, you're on the Scott Sloan show. Thanks for checking in high. William disappointed in you. There. Your your guest. They're talking about obscene profits or too much profit. I don't wanna helicopter costs. Right. I would imagine it's close to a million dollars. Okay. Let's just be probably for medical hopper way more than that. Now, you've got to have trained personnel on that helicopter. You'd have to have support crew you have to have management you'd have to have approve landing areas. You've got to carry in ear in south zoo, who in God's name is this person or anybody else to say, hey, you're saving my life. But don't you dare make a profit? Are you guys to say that that's obscene itself? I'm more bothered by people saying, well, that's obscene government sold. My problem. The capital the private helicopter companies will solve this on their own crop with more competition. If there's not enough competition prices will likely rise. I'm sorry. Who are you to say, what is an obscene amount of profit? You don't know what their profit margin is? And they might not see profits for ten years. Don't it all Donut on disagree? I don't think sat there myself even said that I mean, certainly when you get a Bill for four. Well, what we built for forty thousand dollars. There's some sticker shock there. Would you agree? If somebody if you had something like this happened, they say, okay, yours forty grant. It wasn't covered with your testicles. Not go up in your throat a little bit. I know my wick then. Get one. Flu a highly special on multi million dollar vehicle to save my loved ones light out in the middle of nowhere that you chose to be and now and now suddenly I've got to have the government in. I don't think that's the problem with our culture and society. Well, what about this though? I mean, again, I I know what you're saying. And I don't think I guess that because I want I want these companies to make money at the same time. I think the problem though, is back to the health insurance element of this to, you know, health. You know, we think we have insurance that these things are covered the genius. Obviously is in the detail. There's something has to be worked out with the insurance companies and saying, okay, how much of this do we cover? What's covered are we partner with certain firms and look at it this way, if it goes away, John as we said what happens is if congress regulates us and says, that's it. You can't make a profit anymore. You'll let AFC crap what happens is these companies fine. We're going to go on a business. And now, you have people who live in rural areas as you said by choice with no hospital system because they've all closed because we're all areas are dying. And what winds up happening is what these people just fall over dead from things at largely could be have medical intervention like heart attacks, car accidents. The answer. Then you bring the government in. I mean. I mean that to me doesn't make any sense. That's like saying I blew a tire in front of a gas station and guy now granted yet, it's different. But Louis higher in front of a gas station, and the and the guy says, you're tired one hundred and fifty bucks. Well, that's true much. I gotta go. You know, I need to get the government involved. I think this is where we are in this country those because there used to be, and I'm more of a I guess a teddy Roosevelt Republican people, don't generally know. But in that is that that free market should boom. It should be unfettered. And the market will decide, but the same time there has to be a cop there and the cop has to be someone who's unbiased that works the interest of of of the people that ax is not an intimate air, but are actually a referee between between capitalism in the public. But we've lost sight of that in government in our lifetime. Now governments looked at as in. You're right. They come in they go, we're going to knock this whole industry down, and then wind up getting votes and support from special interest groups or simply ignore it used to be like, hey, you know, what how about this? We want the air. A helicopter companies medical copters make money on money you want but here insurance company since you guys are in the insurance business, you got to come up with a plan to cover people. So they don't have filed bankruptcy because someone T-Bone them, and they have a lifeline. Right. I mean, that's what it used to be. But let me say this time the government regulated anything exactly and it would successful right here. The big fear is that big business will take over becoming a monopoly, and then screw the little guy. And you know, what that has never ever ever happened. If you look at big steel didn't happen big telephone didn't happen. Big oil didn't happen. Oh, you can make a case. And I gotta get going John. Thanks for the call wish. I had more time. But you start going to make a case about the robber barons back in the day, which which course started unions right scoring a little, hey, but I gotta get a time out. And we got news and eleven thirty five today. Maybe heard the story to it. It's an addition to the pits in case to as well, Dave the IT guys here in apparently a Chinese hacker tried to actually physically get into mar-a-lago last weekend. That's on the way seven hundred this is seven hundred w l w shock and. Disappointment. I'm Jack crumley seven hundred wwl w dot com. I'm disappointed disappointed that this appears to be either a hoax or some person. That's obviously lying about who. He was Aurora. Illinois police reacting to news from the FBI that a DNA test shows. It was not Timothy Pinson found in Newport Kentucky on Wednesday pits and would be a teenager now after having gone missing in twenty eleven at the age of six the person who claimed to be the missing boy from Aurora. Illinois is allegedly Twenty-three-year-old Brian Rini of Medina Ohio who may have been involved in a house party scam. They're in two thousand seventeen the family of Timothy Pitts and says these last twenty four hours have been terrible. Hopefully, I'll turn Italy hopeful and frightened in..
