"We'll Chuck. Let's move along here in our fourth quarter of the Big win today that we're talking about as far as with the new coach at USC, Dante Williams, and they win and their first Pac 12 victory of the year against Washington State, 45 to 14. A long season yet a lot of improvement to get down and get done and also home game just next week against Oregon State. Well, Coach. We look like we got a call quarterback controversy y because just the way it is, uh, being pushed early on for national honors and Uh, you know, this week had and I l announcement for an apparel company. Uh, really, uh, highlighting him as a star in L A. And now he, you know, gets injured again and no fault to his own. A lot of it is the scheme that they're in and you've seen players go down. So now what happens this week in regards to practice dark? Took a shot on his knee. Hopefully, that will be okay from your standpoint. What will you address? And do we have a two quarterback deal going on at USC coming into the Oregon State game? I think you possibly could. First of all, you have to see what the situation is with darts knee, You know, sometimes they stepping up the war braced the second half. He just got it that out. When he first injured that he really did. It was really sore and he didn't come out of the game. He wanted to play and he stayed in the game. He didn't want to come out. And he finished the game. They put a brace on it and halftime. So right now, I think you could have a quarterback controversy. You've got Keaton, who came in as a freshman. It had a tremendous year but hasn't really lived up to that expectations of past two years or this year and last year. And was injured and again now you get dart injured today. Yes. And you mentioned the scheme and so on. When you know when the defense knows where you are, and then come after your full speed, And you don't you know, try to slow down them whatsoever with any type of screens are Draws or any type of Bootlegs or move the pocket. You're going to get your quarterbacks injured, and this is what's happened at USA. You think that by now they probably figure that out. Because they've lost 80 Daniel, slow bits and and and it just keeps continuing as far as these guys taking hits. But I think, uh, I really think that Right now that I would look at those first two guys pretty strongly and I would say there's a lot of confidence. By your coaching staff and by your team on how Jackson died, played. I think slow pace is a great kid. But Everybody's in it to win football games and have your best 11 players on the field and not only just a quarterback Chuck At every position. If I got to find out who your best receivers are you rotating a lot of receivers. You don't need to do that. You need to have your top three or four and to feel all the time. Because their rotating a lot of receivers and kids come in and play at the end of the game, and you figure out man. Is he a great player like this forward, kid? I mean, they didn't number 81 a great player he is, and he only plays a little bit and catches touchdown passes every time he comes into the game. So I think you've got to decide on who your best players aren't quarterback is something you have to decide on, along with running backs offensive line and all of the rest Defensive players. And I think the quarterback is one that everybody just talks about more and watches more with. Everybody evaluates that quarterback more because everybody can see what he's doing more than what the other people are doing. But I think that you've got to look at the past performance the lance performance and see how they practice this week. Can you do your gut feeling and the best player plays? And right now, curly today what I saw with Jackson Dart dead and if he's healthy, and I'm gonna play a guy to side healthy That to me, Be number one. Nothing to get Slovis. But I think today he showed that he can play and fight to get it back now. Of course, he could do that during the week, but it's nothing like game players. I said this when I saw him in the fall. There's a practice player and there's a game player. Some guys practice really well. Some guys practice terrible, but they're gamers. And Jackson Jackson dot Reminds me of really a gamer. He's that type of guy is attitude, that type of guy and which is have to wait and see what happens. Coach at this moment, like to take a moment to remember a great Trojan All American who passed away last week. Actually this week on Thursday, Steve Riley all American tackle U. S. C. 1973. Played on the undefeated 1972 National Championship team passed away in Laguna. He was a young 68 years old. And of course, this comes on the heels of the passing of another great player from that all American. Team of undefeated. Probably one of the greatest teams in the history of college football are great friends, Sam Cunningham. So our condolences both the Cunningham and the Riley family, and this is being, uh, coming too often in regards to the loss of great people who are friends and football people from USC. Chuck. I pass on the same condolences to all the people out there friends and family and teammates of the rally. Riley. Excuse me. Great player. I remember him playing right currently right now, along with Sam Cunningham and the other great players have played on those great Children football team so You know, you've got to be safe out there. You've got to enjoy life. You've got to do what you think is the best. And do it. Well, whatever time you're here, enjoy it. And set examples and get back and do all the rest of the things that make you happy and also the people surrounding you and help them when you can, but chukka again. Another great week. As far as college football. I don't know if we have any updates now before we leave, but it's time to leave. But again an exciting week of college football. Next week. We'll be on again. We'll be reporting on the Oregon game, Oregon say game against USC in the Coliseum so again for all of you out there, we want to wish you a Safe week and we look forward to having you back to our Children Football report with Chuck Hayes and myself hard behind brought to us all by the South Point Hotel Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. "Welcome back. I'm Harvey Hide woodchuck eggs. You're tuned into our and join us. If not earlier, I saw soldiers football report. But there's all by the South Point Hotel Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. We're with you every Saturday night for 9 to 10 P.m.. I hope you join us in a little bit later on, we'll tell you how you can follow us anywhere. Listen to our show Checklist. Continue with our conversation regarding the Pac 12 College football. The Trojans What's going on in the world of college football, and I don't know where to start. A war to stop Is there so much is going on? You just take it from here. Coach. I think the reference point on where USC fits in regards to the Pac 12 now. Well, Oregon State's win against Oregon last night was a huge blow to the Pac 12. Oregon State coming from behind the wind, 41 38. We saw some cracks in the origin facade early on, especially way usually ran the football on them with a young quarterback. So from your standpoint, you've been watching the Pac 12. Very closely. USC right now, if they would play and win out would have that opportunity to be at the door of the college football playoffs, but not necessarily Getting an entry. Well, we really don't know where they pack 12 was headed or anyone who's headed anywhere. This head coach, even with Ohio State being currently for no. There's some discussion that you know if they don't play any more games to play only one more game, but don't get in the championship game of the big 10. How could they be selected for the college football playoffs and wanted to wear one of the best teams in the country? So there's a lot of things that have to be amended or a lot of things that have to be discussed. But you know, when you look at USC and the Trojan, See you look at the Pac 12. I've been watching these teams playing. I said two weeks ago. It was a three weeks ago that Oregon was not the dominant team that itwas they have a whole offensive. To line their young on defense. They have lost Justin Huber to quarterback. They weren't the dominant football came when they were getting beat by Stanford in the first half, and also Washington state, and the usually really played him well to 38 35 could have won that game. Last night, Jonathan Smith and the Oregon State Beavers had a big win over them and deserve that wimp. And so there's a lot of things that are going on Utah almost tonight. I don't want to get up to score, but But you talk today almost be Washington. Washington was undefeated in the north, and if they would have one would have been. It's where they are. They are in first place in the North, so You take the Arizona State situation is far zone one and get tooken, Oregon two in one. You look in Washington three, you know, and you look at you. I see through, you know But you I see a sonic in a position where they could have been for no, but they didn't play and the big question mark here chart. His world a be able to play next week against Washington State. Because of the protocol of how many days have you had contact with someone with the virus? Must you set out not just as a player, but the entire contact list. So if the player let's say was an offensive lineman has supposedly itwas. I don't know. Well, all of those players that were among those players that made contact with that player for 15 minutes. Yeah. Corn caned for 14 days. So if they go quarantine for 14 days The game would have to be played on a Sunday and they may do that. I don't know for those players be able to play or get back together practice, so you really don't know what's going to happen so Us. He needs to play another game or two here before they play. You know, you chalet. You shall have things for all right for them to continue and play and have more experience to be ready to come back and play U C l A and even beat you silly, So you don't know how they're gonna finish up the season. As far as also the conference championship game. So it's really you know, you've heard me use that joke when we start to show each week on a Saturday night, the Pac 12 the Pac 10 the Pack eight, depending on how many teams have been playing for this weekend. So there's a lot to be discussing a lot to look forward to. But it's always the Trojans are concerned as far as AH football program and a football team. If they were to live up and had the opportunity to play all the potential and use all the tools and everything they have in the property direction As far as coaching the football team playing the way the Children could play, and so on, there is no question in my mind. After watching everybody played that they got the best game of the best talent and Pac 12. Now that's saying that, but still, you have to still do it, Chuck. You know when you talk about that, and again their game for Washington state against the Cougars is scheduled for six o'clock this Friday night. So if you were to do like you say the math and regards to how it goes. Um, they call see him does not have a pro franchise in there. There's not an issue with scheduling. If you will. There may be a TV issue going up against the NFL in Los Angeles and Also one, you know, national issues. Those were things that could be worked out. But that would be one of those things that they would look at as having that flexibility. And I think that's One of the things that they looked at in regards to making this schedule that there was a little bit of slide in that in case of that, But I don't think they ever thought it would be this extreme. In every dead Chuck. And if you remember two weeks ago, you still a plate in the Rose Bowl on the Sunday too. I believe the kickoff was at 9 30 in the morning. So that can always be arranged for the Washington state USC game because you've got to have those type of games and that would get in the number of days, 14 days with those players would be able to come back. I don't know if they've been able to practice but to be able to get back and play football game, So you gotta look at all these different things. And I think what happened is when, if the Pac 12 The big 10 was to go back and look at what they did as far as the quarantine and how many days and this is that they may change that they would have probably changed that as far as What That meant as far as quarantine for the individual, but not for the entire group or whatever. Now, I'm not a doctor, and I'm not a scientist. I don't know that. But I think that a lot of that is going overboard..

Kansas versus Florida and one of the first regular season games ever been played in a casino arena, and it's gone now to all the conferences having their conference tournaments in Las Vegas and eventually they'll be a final four in Las Vegas, along with all the other things that we talked about no one does it better than Las Vegas as far as special events, and it's a destination city for everyone not just to go and visit, but the live I lived there my kids with the school there. I love that. The city has been great to me as long as I was there coaching and still is today. And I always say, you know, once you're Las Vegas, you always a lot Sagan and you're still very long. To them, yet, I still am very loyal and respect the other universities. I worked for, and I love all the kids, all the other universities that I worked for or schools, or high schools, and also now currently working a lot of doing a lot of shows with the USC Trojans. I'm so proud to be in that type of position and do this weekly show because of the sponsorship at the south point hotel casino or Trojan football report show. Sometimes we're on even during the game sometimes late games. And also Chuck just spreading the world about what's happening in the Trojan football program. But we gotta take a break. Gotta get a little carried away there, once in a while, as I always do when I talk, so passionately about things are people that are in my life and things that have been so important to me, like you, Chuck, as far as how much I respect, you and what you do. And how you assist the I'm only as good as the people around me or the players to play for me, the people that take care of. Me and a lot of people out there don't realize that in the sooner you realize that if you get people that are smart around you that you are you're going to be pretty good, too. So before we take this short time out. I want to mention everybody, but there's some people on the highway, and there's some people that are kicked back, but, you know, there's terribles roadhouse, and it was built out there in Jean Nevada several months ago, and it's the world's largest Chevron gas station. "Chuck. Football report gels or through every Saturday night from nine to ten pm buckle up right along with us. And again, we wanna think to south point hotel casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Chuck before we can you. I'd just like to let everyone know out there that you can follow me on Instagram. We did couple of shoots out there on the football field. And I sorta described everything that was going on and add Brandon Hancock on with me for a moment. Former fo- football fullback at USC. So if you don't do Instagram follow me on Twitter at coach Harvey hide. That's add coach Harvey. I if you want more just go to Harvey, hi dot com. That's harvey. Hi dot com. And you can find out about all my shows went up on and all of the above. What? Chuck, let's continue today. You and I were both at USC Trojan football practice, the third practice of the air and full pads. But now the Trojans have a week off they practice three practice. Now, they have a week off your thoughts on that, you know, coach like anything new always talk about college football being class. It's about teaching coaching is teaching and I can't imagine with your class where you're having to take a test, you know, as a mid term, and you teach your only takes you win for for two meetings. And then you have a lab and then say, well, you're going away for a week. We come back. We'll get to give it exam. It seemed like a little bit rushed this week. And I don't really understand the timing of it. I don't know what starting a week later would've would've done in regards to getting through it. Maybe adding a day. I'm not sure why they're hung up on Tuesday Thursday and Saturday to me, it's just something is peers they've done over and over and over again, but I'm not comfortable with that. Actually. I think if I was a player I weigh spring ball is right now, there's no reason to spread it way way out. It's about getting in and getting after it. And as you mentioned today there was a lot of work on the kickoff game, which they're not gonna play football game until August thirty first. So I don't think kickoff is the main focus of today's practice. Well, check first of all. Yeah. Talking about special teams. I never liked to spend a lot of time in the spring on special teams. I think over the basics as far as the. Kickers, and they live mention so on but the spent fifteen minutes or whatever they did today or more with a lot of people watching and standing around. I just think that's sometimes a lot of wasted time. You could do that in pre practice. You can do a lot of that at times when you don't have to waste the time of all the other players you might have twenty players practicing. But you've got sixty players wasting that time while twenty players are are practicing a drill. And I as I said, I didn't mean to be a smart Aleck. But I said if you're going to practice kickoff returns that many times you're probably getting beat anyway. So you know, there's there's there's so much that you get done. And I think in the spring it's better to work more on your offensive defensive side of the football. And also, you know, a limited time as far as on special teams not to say that Assad important, but as far as the. Practice itself is like you mentioned. I I think their thought is a three day a week is they have it day on and they use film and video and break it down, and they have another day on and they break it down and use video as far as with team meetings, and so on and they have the players that allows them time to look at it to still do their studies. But I don't think players like it. I know I didn't like it as a coach to draw it on that long as far as practice during the spring. And I thought that I did I know my staff did. And I know our players did like going four days a week like a Monday Wednesday Friday review, and then scrimmage on Saturday. We thought that was great. And we went through it quickly. And we didn't have to break it up with a spring break. Because normally when you come back, someone's always laid or or the, you know, you have to go back and review a day because they forgotten exactly what they needed to do. And you know, both these. These players are packing their stuff, and they're on the way out. I mean, they go to the beach or Mexico or back where they live or whatever they're gonna do and their mind ready lease football. And I don't want their mind the league football. I want their mind to be into football for this period of time. So I don't know there's a lot of universities that follow this pattern as far as having a week off somewhere during their spring practice as far as for, you know, a break. But I don't think a break is next necessary. I think I'd rather get a good spring practice being Chris get into a routine. No, we gotta do follow it and be a better foot better football team at the end. I know that every Saturday we're going to get after it. We ain't get after it every Saturday, we're not gonna have any showcases. Our showcase is to be a football team at a football player. So I look at it a little bit different. But of course, there's many different ways to be successful. But that's my. Thought I don't like to have a break after practicing three days then have a week off. Then come back again. You know, what are the things that was there that I saw in the last two days was that there's an energy in regards to the offense and Graham Harrell has brought and as you mentioned clay house and spend some time with quarterbacks, but I had a question with early on where you would have a spring freshman coming in from from Arizona K, dawn, slow six to one eighty five out of Scottsdale desert about high school. Of course, he played for Kurt Warner there. He was a freshman that was getting regular turns. While Matt secret down in the inside run drill from your standpoint. I know you he impressed you. But what about what about what you've got Sears and feed and JT battling for job. And you saw a young freshman in there. Well, I think it's good. They're all learning a new system. But I think what you do you don't leave one quarterback just running game. And and three with the passing game. You rotate 'em and they run back and forth between that drill. They've got a two and a half minute or three minutes, depending on how long the period is. They split it to go down below with the running game to put the passing game. And then you make that switch because you've got to be able to have your timing to all the time, but the running game, and you've got also be able to have their your time as far as passing now as far as if you're going to have competition like they say they are with the quarterback position and oppositions, then you've gotta start that way. And then all of a sudden it'll start to come out on who the guy is a new the player is. And but I was very impressed, by the way, the guy can competed take it went out there and competed. I've heard a lot about this kid. Yeah. They're real good junior year this past year. He didn't have as quite as good a year as he did. His junior year in Arizona. Buddies, a competitor. And he plays hard. And I think he has a lot of confidence, of course, Matt Fink, and of course, Jack, Sears and Jackie Daniels or our older kids and so on, but I think it's great to put him in there. And find out just what he's made of. I think it's important not that he gets intimidated and sands at the back of the line. But I I like to see kids at jeopardy and want their turn. And I don't think he was doing that. I think he was told to do what he was doing. But I was very impressed with his confidence the way he threw the ball. And I I liked I liked what I saw was. I didn't know much about this kid until today. Because one of the things we do know is that USC never lacks receivers. And the way we were positioned. We had a great chance to see Dave on Williams. Six four to five a sophomore antelope Valley High School out of Lancaster, California. Do his thing right in front of us. I use an eye opener. He passes the test. He does Chuck first of all he's a big kid. I'd I'd say looking at him eyeball and Amy's Bobby six four maybe six five and has good speed. And what I really liked to got really soft. Good hands the fade route is one of his favorite that he likes to go up to any can find the ball and outrebounded for the football. He seems like a great athlete, and I was sitting next to a lot of media people. I looked over at Adam. And I said, well, there's your next your next at USC. And I think he will be he's a great athlete to smooth. And so on and of course, with Brown and von and Pitman and others out there too. It's an impressive group of receivers. I mean, they all have their the differences, but they all have what they can do. Well, and that's what coach Harold has to figure out on who will play what position and a what continuity is best. And once you figure that out then you're going to be doing a good job at getting your players in the right position. And being a good coach. And and having a great offense. Great defense is getting your players on the field and allowing them to play. And I think this is what Graham herald is talking about is don't have your players thinking, let your players play it. My player is bigger and faster than your player. Then I don't want my player thinking about what he has to do. I wanted to know what he has to do and have fun doing it. But the confidence in themselves whether he's a db or receiver. No matter what he plays. He looks forward to the challenge of competing. And I think that's something. They're trying to develop at USC Chuck. We got to take another short time out. Again, we want to welcome all of you out there. No matter where you are. You know, you're out there maybe in Hawaii or down in the desert down tennis tournament down there in Indian Wells. We don't know where you are. But we're just glad you're with us. Again. "The opinions of the host Saad, Katie WN are their own and do not necessarily reflect the views of this station, its management, or Beasley Media Group. It's time for the USC Trojan football report presented by the south point hotel and casino. Let's join Kotaro hide and Chuck as as provide live analysis of SC football the Pac twelve conference and the latest college football action of the day. Well, good evening. Heavy wind up at Darden to buckle up. And it's time to ride along with this with our weekly Trojan football report, as we always say football never goes away. There's just a different phase of football today. Chuck, and I visited the university of southern California Howard Jones field Brian Kennedy field practice, number three the first day of full pads. And we're going to discuss it all we had a chance to talk to a lot of people Ron Yary one of the greatest offensive lineman at USC in football history, and in the NFL along with his son who's there, it'd be recruited by USC. Also, John Jackson third Brandon Hancock who played in the Rose Bowl game. And probably has I don't know five or six bowl rings. But what a great afternoon really started off in the morning. We left in the afternoon, but Chuck joins me it again, we want to thank our south point hotel casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Further sponsorship of this. Our weekly show. Chuck quite a day in southern California at USC third practice. Good evening coaching. Yes. Who's interesting. You had that little bit of a fall field to it. Even though it springs football was the first day that you had seen had the full pads on. I was there on Thursday and there were running around helmets shorts. But it always is something different. When you put those shoulder pads on you gotta pull that jersey over you put those pants on and me pads, and you came up, and you put your leg braces on and you know, you have business you put that helmet on. And you buckle it when you Chapman and coming through gate. Chuck. I don't know where to start we discussed that we evaluated that coaching staff. The new coaches were there the philosophy of the drills the philosophy of what's being taught. We also discussed sin watch some of the new players that have arrived on campus at USC, we evaluated. A look at a lot of the recruits, and their parents who were there watching US's practice, quite an aptitude an awful lot of things to do when you're there watching spring practice fifteen days and a lot to be accomplished in. Why are we sort of go step by step on through the entire practice? What we saw what we talked about. Obviously, we couldn't do this in a whole lower our here, but let's start off. And I'll let you or put you at the controls. Well, coach I appreciate that. And I think one of the things that's interesting is that it's an open practice. That's it. That's a positive thing where not only are the families and the friends and loyal Trojans who circle every date on the calendar for USC football had the opportunity to be there to watch that squad develop. But you also see that this aside of college football. The young kids are coming in the potential stars of tomorrow still in high school having their opportunity get down on the field that coach from your standpoint. As you watch the Trojans is that silly Howard Jones. It seems very distinct. You've got the defense on one practice field the offense how the other special teams in between you kinda put it play in the blender. Everybody comes together you've been down there over the last several years. How did you feel the pace of practice was and the intensity of the day here at USC was the first day in pads? Well, Chuck, I think the practice was well organized, I think they. Got done what they accomplished to do out there today. I I don't always agree with the organization of the way, it's laid out. I think that it's hard and difficult for their families, and the people that tub or on the east side of the field where people stand in front of you, and it's very difficult to watch practice. The media's in a small area. Poppy can fifteen yards by ten yards on one corner at one of the practice field. And of course, all visiting parents in the players that are there with the recruits to the future are standing facing the other second field watching all the inside drill work and one I once and all of that stuff, which really cuts our view off as far as trying to watch the drills that are they're not only for us. But for the people when you say, it's an open practice. It's very difficult for them to see to there's no seeding opportunity, anywhere or drinking water at any already type of fluids, anywhere. Restroom facilities that I know of where people can get to in a hurry. But as far as the football practice itself and the players on the field. I think that they had a lot of speed of core. I noticed and I talked to you the equipment manage, you know, I noticed this year that I that there. Everybody was in white socks with black shoes. And and and they look uniform as a football team. There's still a few things I think that you need to do if you're going to play. Well, you gotta look well, you gotta look like a team and not be or have individual styles that you weren't a football field. I think it was better than what it's been in the past. But I think again that's something that could be worked on. And I also noticed a as far as coach clay Helton had a different type of philosophy wasn't coachie. One group watched him found him on the field. He wore white hat where I could follow him around the field. Did not coach a lot of positions. But observed in all different areas may have spent a little bit more time on the offensive side of the football. But did visit the defensive side of the football did watch. And and and be a part of that at the end of that practice. Of course, they have the regular what do you call press conference where the reporters have an opportunity to talk to Klay out. So it was basically the same setup as far as what it's been in the past as far as teaching on the field with different, but we'll get into that in a moment. One of the things that's interesting. And when you get down there, the levels of it surely of the players that are competing. This is somewhat new to me. It wasn't something that was a normal situation where a player could graduate early from high school and really being what would be the spring second semester. The semester you've going to graduate now being on the practice field, the major university, and it appears now that the kids don't have any problem assimilating into that opportunity. And I'm just wondering from your standpoint, I know that this was not a regular thing. We would always hope that a GMC player could take that step and get on that practice field during spring ball from your insight is that something that you're watching evolved in the college football world. Yeah. You are Chuck because you seek players today are starting to play much. Younger they play all year round and camps, and and different types of competition. All year round, they get to play with the players they play against a they really know everything about each other. They talk about where they're going to school, and they watch the competition. And it's a little bit different players are say better schooled, maybe not at all the techniques, and maybe an all the discipline things. They have to do, but at some levels of crap petition they're just played better than the person they're playing against now they're playing against players of all the equal type of skills and the great players play. But again, I think you've got to be very careful when you put a high school player out there or graduating high school player or even junior college player you got to introduce him to division one football. And you can't have and be humiliated. You gotta put him in a place where he can be successful. And you go a little bit slower with him. So he's being taught exactly what you're techniques are what you expected. Sometimes you can't put him on an island out. There were really all. The odds are on the opposite side of the ball to the defensive side of the ball that who's going to be successful, and who has a better chance of being successful. So you've got to make sure that the new players have success, and they're accepted, and you make sure you know, and teach them that don't worry, and I can get where you're fluid. These other guys are they've been here longer period of time. But as as time goes along they gained a lot of confidence. And I think that's what you're trying to do. What new players is make them feel comfortable make them feel wanted and help them adjust to the different style and the different speed of the game from high school or junior college community level to the in college football. But again, I think it's something you have to learn to adjust doing compete because you go to USC and other fine universities like USC to win championships. So you have to be able to put them at a championship level coaching. The cat championship level and expect performance of a championship level. One of the things. It's always been the case. A USC is always that person or player who would be projected as a first rounder would be pre season all American. It would be a player that people would come in. And and see say that guy's going to be a superstar. That's one of the all time greats or that one's a Heisman Trophy candidate. Or as you mentioned the one year one of the great offense alignment of all time and NFL hall of Famer when you look at this group of athletes, it seems like there's a lot of great great players. No real superstars though that there's a it's more of a team effort in a team environment. And I don't mean that's diminished. The skills of any of these players on the field. They're all competing the job y'all try to make an impact for their peers. It's the challenge is great. But it's very even would you would you concur with that? I do Chuck I really do. Obviously there's some stars out there. But I think there are a lot of capable players out there. I don't think US's rosters. What you might call limited talent. I think the Trojans have great talent. They always have great talent. And it's a a way of putting them into position where they could be successful. And I think right now, everyone is sort of buying into. Maybe it's not always me, maybe sow always this stats. Maybe they decided and found out that the ws are better than the ELLs and they have to play as a team, and and the as a team, and you lose a team, and I think that maybe sometimes season such as what USC experience last year soda, sometimes give you a feeling that you don't ever have again. And they haven't been on the football field now for a long period of time. So you can see the enthusiasm, and you can see the other little extra effort of trying to be. Better. And I think this is what's really important, and we could discuss that. And I we gotta take we're going to have to take a timeout here because we could talk all night. But Chuck, let's take a short time out. Again, we want to welcome all of you. I'm harvey. Hi, Chuck as this is yours and ours Trojan football reported, and as I say, we'll take your part of the way, we'll take you all the way if you're out there on the highway. "Eleven. Along with all of the way, just wanna make sure that wherever you're headed to get there safely. Coaching football report is brought by the southbound hotel casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. And if you want to follow me on Twitter, just go to at coach Harvey Hyde at coach Harvey hide or go to my website Harvey, Hyde dot com, Chuck let's get into Trojan football coach, it's been a busy wink for USC. The announcement finally came about grand herald being named the offensive coordinator and quarterback coach for those people who don't know Graham herald is a former quarterback that played at Texas Tech. And he's a person that played a little bit in the National Football League has a Super Bowl ring from when he played with the Green Bay Packers. And now, we'll be running the show for USC. And he's had a short career. He was the offensive coordinator at North Texas. The mean green and put in some. Top twenty five offenses over the past couple of years. And he's one of the new breed. Thirty three years old. He was an award winning quarterback at a Texas high school. His dad was a high school coach. And like I said he does have a Super Bowl ring. So I'm sure when recruiting comes along, and he had this to bring that out your great conversation piece. Previously coached the patch. Well that Washington state where he worked for his mentor, Mike Leach out side receiver coach after me offense of analysts. And so there you have now the new quarterback coach the new offense coordinator, and she's not for me to to look at some of his offense film when he coached she'd North Texas. What are you seeing the grim herald brings to USC? Well, first of all Chuck, I wanna congratulate Graham herald first of all for a young kid thirty three years old to be the offensive coordinator USC that says a lot. I mean, there seems to be a trend right now that if you're over thirty five years old. You can't get ahead football job as far as you know, they really did change things with his young age his enthusiasm and web. But a great job. He's done with the Los Angeles. Rams. But I want to congratulate him I think it's a dream. Come true. It's a break for him as far as a coach. And I think it really lies on his shoulders down. I think that if anybody hopes he's successful ladies, and he gets his son. It's going to be coach clay Hilton. Because I think the future of clay hill this job on top of the USC Trojan football program and getting the the energy back into the program. They respect back into the program the image of the program is so important was currently right now, I would think that the image of the USC Trojan football program is not what everybody would expect it to be. In fact, I get many calls or many people ask me all day. What's wrong with the Trojans? Is that what they're doing? Right. It's what they've done wrong, and how are they gonna fix this? So it's something that I think a lot of people are talking about a lot of people are going through it and the kids that make a difference, the athletes that most are the ones that you've got impressed, and their coaches, and so on that the coaches that they go play for that they get better with and they improve and they have an opportunity to move on and get an opportunity possibly the plant a Rose Bowl. Played a national championship game or win a Pac twelve championship or go to the NFL all those things that you dream as as a kid and USC basically has lost that right now they didn't have one player come out this year to go to the NFL. I don't know where any of the players will be drafted and issues draft. I mean, there's that's a long time Cohen since I can I can say that. But I think I'm telling everybody the truth, there may be an exception here or there. They don't have the physical part of their team. They used to be. And who they were who they were what their image was now they've decided to go to the air attack. Like everybody else is doing they they hired cliff Kingsbury, and then he left to become the head football coach of the Arizona Cardinals. So they establish it. That's what they wanted to be. And who they wanted to be? So it was very important that they followed up with that with someone who does the same type of thing because they made it a competitive commitment to that's what they wanted to be. But I don't believe that's what the real image the people what at USC as far as the fans the past players and all of the above. They liked the old philosophy of. Hey, throwing the white flag before we beat you to death type of offense. And I've always said why does USC have to be like everybody else? Why does it everybody else? Want to be like USC? They were the face of the program and the Pac twelve they were dominant. They lined up. And it was just a matter. We did. We don't run a lot of plays. But the plays. We do very well. And we're very good at it. We're never going to beat ourselves and on defense. They would practice a base defense. Never stunning. And they would never do anything different until they learned out to line up man man and beat you're mad. And then do it these your way. So, you know, they they've gone to a different type of philosophy on the defensive side of the football on the offensive side of the football. So everybody's gonna wait and see. But I tell you it's going to be a huge year for your SE Trojan football for their not only their head football coach, but for their athletic director and Lynn Swann because it all goes back to the decision that happened immediately following the season when Lynn Swann came out and made a strong commitment to Klay held as far as continuing and being the head football coach. So when you endorse your head football coach, then you as an athletic director, you're married with it. So you went with him, and you lose. With him. And I think that's right now the situation of where you at sea is with their administration and also they had football coach now with Graham herald coming it's a complete different type of picture. You got a different type of offensive coordinator. He's younger. He's had success at North Texas, North, Texas in the Pac twelve you deal with different athletes, and you asked me to question, and I'm sorry, I rambled around so much to get to this as far as how and what will his offense, and how will his offense working the Pac twelve well USC really is a school that needs to run the football as well as past the football and a lot of their pre hype. As far as a hiring Graham Harrell has been that he ran the football or they had two thousand yards and rushing last year. Well after watching the films and the highlights that I've seen a lot of that came from the quarterback as far as an athletic quarterback running out the tackle running power plays with the quarterback quarterback draws quarterback. Talking the ball and running. The quarterback was part of the running game and the offense our USC. Currently there quarterbacks are not those type of quarterbacks their prototype of quarterbacks. JT Daniels is not that type of quarterback Sears is somewhat that type of quarterback and get can't can't do it. All I would think. So right now, I would say that there's gonna be a lot of changes or a lot of observation or this spring a lot a lot is are going to be watching what's going on with Graham Harrell, we'll save announced the first week of spring mall. The the first week of March. They have a big clinic where they bring on coaches in from different place. In fact, UNLV coach Tony Sanchez along with Bob Davie, and Derek Mason from Vanderbilt we'll be speaking on March twenty ninth and March thirty s at a special clinic would contact the USC football office for more information on that. And then what is being described as a showcase? Ace on Saturday April six now, they call him is under renovation they removed. A lot of chairs field has been dug up again. And so they don't believe that property will be ready to go until August. I kid you see USC going outside of the campus discrimination. And that's you think is important as we continue to hear about Klay helps overseeing the entire program and not coaching one specific area. Again, you always think you're a Trojan football report, I'm Harvey Chuck as brought this off by the south point hotel casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Check. I look at spring ball is finding an a deputy of who we are at USC both offensively and defensively. We'll talk about Klay held his role in a minute. But we have to take a break in a minute. But I'll I'll address this spring practice and and the spring game we like to call it spring game as far as. Coach's call it marketing departments and other departments. Call it showcase which is two different things. From what football is all about. It's not about balloons and jumping things in all those different toys and contests on the football field during the spring game because I look at practices as something you can't replace and the fifteenth day of spring practice is a scrimmage were you teach off of that you make it just like a regular game. You hit you go the full full game you're playing like a game. You have a clock break up. Your team goes ones against To's and do's against once. You don't go ones against four or one against threes. But you're trying to develop a football program at a football team. And the only way you're two's, get better to go against once. And the only way you're ones get better as they go against ones and twos. So you've got to be able to scrimmage you get as many hits and as many. As as you can't in in a spring game. But you teach off of that the entire summer the kids all get copies of it. They watch themselves. They watch themselves against good players practice, and it cannot be a wasted day. If you watch great football programs in America, they're all on national television out this spring games Alabama cleanse and so on it's an actual game. It's a real football game with all aspects of the game except covering a kick off. Of course, you don't want. Anybody get hurt and have things such as that ball the other aspects of the game or fall, live and officiated. So that you can you can teach your kids off the field. What's legal what you can do? What you can't do what the changing of the new rules. And so on to have a showcase, I think, it's absolutely ridiculous. And I don't think you get any better. I think he just wasted their practice. And I hate to see this position again is the same format that they had the last couple of years, and I hope. Again, coach Elton that you're not planning on doing that type of program again. Always you worry about injuries. Okay. You always worry about injuries. Who does it? But you might if you did lose one, unfortunately, the other ninety got better. And I think you gotta look at it that way because your job is to become a better football team in every way. But let's take a short time out. And when we come back. We'll talk about talk about the new image that they're trying to create for coach clay out in a minute. Again. I'm harvey. Hi with Chuck as you're listening to our Trojan football report brought to us by the south point hotel casino. Las Vegas about a buckle.

"The opinions of the host Saad, Katie WN are their own and do not necessarily reflect the views of this station, its management, or Beasley Media Group. It's time for the USC Trojan football report presented by the south point hotel and casino. Let's join Qatari hide and Chuck as as they provide live analysis of SC football the Pac twelve conference and the latest college football action of the day. Well, good evening. Everyone to huddle. Huddle up and it's time to buckle up. And it's time to ride along with us here. What are Trojan football report as we always say, we'll take your part of the way, we'll take you all of the way, we just wanna make sure you get wherever you're headed home safely, and of course in southern California. Currently right down the Coliseum. The Trojans a lot of people are headed home so Barco weapon ride along with his Chuck as joins us from the Coliseum. The home of the Trojan, Chuck how are you the CD that had to be an exciting game as the Rams defeated the Cowboys. Yeah. Hey, coach great to be with you tonight. And you know, it's kind of interesting we see a crowd of seventy seven thousand one hundred and eighty seven people, and there's a lot of energy in the building. You remember that this is the home of the university of southern California. The Rams are are if you will. But again, the levels of expectation have been raised the Rams are coming off two years of where they made the playoffs. They've got a young Saudi coaching, Sean McVay. It got a great offense. He got great defensive players. And again, I think there's a lot of crossover between USC fans and Rams fans. And we've said this is something that USC has to look at as they come into spring football hotter. Recapture the energies of magic that everyone experiences here now in January. Chocolates get into this for since you're at the Coliseum. I know we have a lot of Trojan fan and also football fans who would like to get an update. What's the Coliseum? Looked like. Now is it proceeding? Construction on the press box and suites is coming along fine. It's going to be something that I'm sure say weather permitting. I know this week is going to have a lot of rain. It will be something that when USC hopefully gets to their spring ball, their spring scrimmage. They'll be able to take the fans through and give them a idea what the future looks like a kid memorial calls. Of course, they replace all those seats niche, really limited the capacity from what was. Ninety thousand down to about seventy seven thousand from a comfort standpoint. So I think construction going well whether permitting, and when that happens, it's going to change the look a little bit of the Coliseum because of how impressive this press box is in very very big suites would be something different something that USC has never had. And we'll just see what happens on on game days because the energy in the building is an outside energy. It's not an inside energy. Again. You're listening to our children football report. I'm Harvey had with Chuck as brought to us all by the south point hotel casino every Saturday night at nine PM. So buckle up and ride along with us. Chuck you're talking about the energy in the building. This is something that really is very competitive in southern California. You've got the Rams winning tonight. You got the chargers play tomorrow New England, you've got LeBron James you've got the clippers who are really doing. Well, you've got both hockey. Teams to soccer teams. It's really important now put the Trojans he used to own it all in southern California as the Rams and raiders left to get back on track. And the only way to do that is by winning and currently right now they've been going through a lot of controversy. I don't know where they exactly set. Now, you you and I can discuss that. But I think a lot about listeners would like to know exactly what's going on there in the athletic department. Also as well as now looking for a new offensive coordinator since everything was built up so big and high with expectations that the hurry up offense at throwing the ball all over the field with clip, clean Kingsbury. Now, they're out trying to see how are they going to lick their wounds here and get everybody back onto on board. Well, you know, it's interesting when you talk about because there are certain number of noted offense coordinator is and quarterback coaches in college football in the NFL and sat on this ram staff. There's a young quarterback coach by the name of Zach Taylor. Who's being talked about as the next head football coach in Cincinnati Bengals one of Taylor's assistance, if you will is jed fish. He's listed as senior offset through the system for those people who follow college football. They know that he was at UCLA last year. The Jim Mora coaching at UCLA, and he was the guy that coach Josh Rosen. So it's interesting right now with Kingsbury interviewing, and I understand that former USC head coach Steve Sarkisian turned down an opportunity go to Arizona and has moved down to meet with Nick Sabin and Tuscaloosa the possibility of Kingsbury looking for. A coordinator or quarterback coach someone who worked with Josh Rosen. Jed fish would be an outstanding candidate with that said if USC is in the business of looking for that and across town the Rams had a position like Zack Taylor young guy. Who's going to be a head football coach, it raises the bar if you will the the level of I guess credibility of these position coaches who have never been head coaches before. So those are a couple of names that are in play right now. And then, of course, it all depends. If USC is going to go multiple years on their deal or one year deal. Because now if the Rams are in a situation where they have to replace Taylor. Then Jen fish might be the candidate. And you never know what's gonna come off of this. Because Matt leflore who was one of Sean as assistant before he went to Tennessee is now the head coach of the Green Bay Packers Nuss someone into McVeigh's. Tree probably be going there. Chuck as joins me. I'm Harvey Hyde with a Trojan football report where with your be Saturday evening, Chuck, you know, I I'm looking at this picture, and I'm saying that USC make a mistake. What I mean, not by the hiring, click cleans kick skews may cliff Kingsbury, but the way it's all been handled as far as coach clay and the head football coach being put in the back of the program. And all of the discussion is about an offensive coordinator. What's going to happen on the offensive football, rather? Really? Then they had football coach making these decisions and lane swan. Yeah. Flake director at USC elected and endorsed Klay hell to continue with the head coaching job at USC yet. It doesn't seem like he has much to say or he's in the background or he's really not right now the face of the program as it should be it looks as though they trying to get an offensive coordinator who is the face of the program. You don't hear anything about the defensive side of the football. You're just at a national signing day. You have another national signing day coming up here in the first week. February and you need to get the things taken care of, you know, I want to suggest this, and I don't know what listeners think of this. But to me. As far as being back to past bringing back. What USC is all about in football the face the Pac twelve conference. I know a lot of you out there that are other boosters about the universities. And so on don't like me saying that, but the standards of the pack twelve in football was set by USC as far as the days with John. How Jones it goes on and on and on John Robbins and John McKay Pete Carroll, and so on were all other programs stepped up to be at the level that USC played at the national exposure. Then that the Pac twelve God. And currently right now USC has to make some moves to make that sacrifice or give that attention to the football program for the and for the entire university to again have the pride. And now what now is going through a renovation and the Coliseum. Renewal tickets new ticket prices moving of tickets seats as far as where your. There's so much going on right now. And then again with the confusion now trying to figure out who is going to be the offensive coordinator, just add to the fire and one person who could maybe merged this back together. A name of the past. And he has coach at USC is poppy coaches many Heisman Trophy. Quarterbacks is as anyone in college football. That's norm. Chow? I mean, he lives in Torrance, California. He could be on campus immediately. He's got their credibility. He throws the football. They run the football. He's coach ties been trophy winners. He can coach a quarterback. This could be an immediate fix for USC. And I believe most of the boosters in football followers of USC would be very satisfied. There's a lot of people say, and I believe I would endorse it that USC would've won two more national championships with p Carol if norms cat Chow would have stayed at the offense coordinator. So we've got a lot of things happening in the USA. And we're trying to crowd this all in this one show or Trojan football report every Saturday, and again, Chuck we gotta take a break here. And again, we want to thank the south point hotel casino in Las Vegas, Nevada for the sponsorship of this. But we also want to make everybody aware that's traveling. They're planning on traveling on. Interstate fifteen here the next well, maybe right now or the next day or week, and especially with it's going to be raining out. There we want you to be careful on interstate fifteen. There's terrible roadhouse is located about twenty miles south of Las Vegas there at exit twelve and Jean Nevada. Yes, it's a world's largest Chevron. That's right. Let's do this ninety six fuel pumps. That's ninety six. You don't have to wait sixty spotless restrooms. That's right sixty I think of this over fifty thousand square feet of snacks beverages gifts and more. Art all at terribles roadhouse right there on interstate fifteen. So look for it. If it going north just over the exit over the overpass poet, if you're going south is well right in there and get whatever you need. So buckle up every one Rb highway Chuck as right along with a with Trojan football report, we'll be right.
