Building Products with Keith Pitt of Buildkite

"If you were to evaluate the landscape and let's say you. Let's say bill didn't exist today and you were to look at the available tooling out there and maybe find that there are some other self hosted kinds of things and would that have deterred you you know. Just kind of trying to rewind back if you had found something kind of filled that that need for you would you have gone and built something yourself or was that really the the critical kind of crux of the matter. That didn't exist yet and you wanted to. I think if i'd found what i was looking for the time i probably built it I just felt compelled for this thing to exist because my problem. The problem wasn't solved. If someone had sold to. Or any for me. I would have been great. I would have been very very happy and over the moon 'cause i'm way more about the problem being solved in solving the problem myself And so yeah. I think that if if the tool head existent of her would have used it already. But it didn't so i just felt like the need to build it so that's the story it it it was this. This need that you had and you were able to recognize that you're able to see clearly can of what you wanted to do. You saw the other competing or not even competing but can of the pieces of the puzzle. The different pieces of the puzzle One did one thing you liked another did another thing you liked but they didn't you know none of them did everything that you needed them to do. It wasn't necessarily. I'm going to put words in your mouth wasn't necessarily because it was a novel idea was because it was a mix of multiple ideas that had already been executed on just not together. Would that would that. Is that true. Yes that's right. I wasn't i took the best of both worlds sir Felicitous that may not know much about cic d- There are two different sort of flavors of cic d. The flesh flava is the self hosted option. And that's you run the tests yourself on sevens that you control and then you run the plane yourself as well And that's going to be done in in if you have a distributed team where the needs to access the tool from harm A lot of these tools aren't really that great of being run on open internet so a lot of sort of kept within. Vpn's or hidden inside offices that's the self hosted option. The other option is the hoisted cic de tolls Your circles you travis's and and those tools you handle that. Will you occurred to them and they manage the orchestration plane and the running tests yourself. The problem with that is twofold but the host options are two major problems. The first problem is you have to you. Have to handle a all of your employees if you want to do continuous deployment which i'm a big fan of Yet the beautifully keys to potty which for some organizations is inaugur the second problem is those tools ernie go so fast if you go to their pricing page. We'll see the slider that earning goes so far out of the rut and you can integrate lost without there. Being a big sign that says contact us to go foster And i didn't want any of those. I didn't accept the cons of the hosted option. It didn't accept the cons of the self hosted option. And so i was thinking to myself. Surely there is some middle ground And so i sort of set out to kind of cherry. Pick the best of both worlds sort of crepe credit mashup of what i thought would be the perfect tool and that's kind of how do was born and i wanted. I wanted to zero in on this idea. Because i think it's important to recognize especially for engineers who are kind of thinking. Oh i have this idea. And it doesn't exist but people can do it themselves if they go and you know mix x and y these two existing things out there A lot of these ideas that tend to be A kind of remixes of multiple other ideas together or you know taking one thing. The best of both worlds like you said. The new product is multiplicative in value. rather than additive. Right in other words somebody could probably go and run. You know two different things to get this same values but when you put them together. It changes the landscape. It's not the same thing is just running those two things back to back. It's changing Kind of the fundamental shape of that product in so it's important to recognize that because critic most critically i think a lot of people who are thinking about starting a business or they're you know they're they're thinking. Hey you know. I'm i'm might do the side thing. I might build a product on the side. I think a lot of them are thinking. Oh i have to come up with a truly new completely novel idea. or outs. Nobody's going to want it right. There can't be at shadow of this idea on the market. Otherwise you know it's it's already saturated every ideas already taken. And i have to come up with something totally new for to be successful and it couldn't be further from the truth. Yeah that's exactly right. There's no such really. there's no such thing as a new idea I think south park said it really. Well they have this episode of the simpsons already did it and there's a recurring joke where they have these themes or plots within the episode. But simpson's already done that particular plot. It's the same product as well. If you look at the big ones rubio burs taxis But they sort of took it and did a mash up and made it better airbnb. Her tells But they've taken it mashed up and made something new. See i city. I didn't invent the i. C d i didn't invent it at all. I just took the best of a bunch of really good ideas and put them together to create something new a new product. And i think that's kind of what a lotta the tools these days. I just improvements of existing ideas.

"And writers why everyone? In Chris Evangelista Alot. So. New Spin kind of slow this week. But we we have a couple of things to talk to you about today and the last edition we talked about wonder woman being pushed back and with the I guess you could call it lackluster box office results of tenant domestically in looks like Disney is considering their options each day tell us about it. Yes. So according to a new report from variety Disney is likely to delay the release date of black widow. Once again, pushing it from its current November six released state, there is no new release date yet in mind, and this is not yet official on Disney's part. This is just do a from a report but this is a possibility for all the reasons that you said and according to the report. Disney is also considering pushing the release of soul not to, but to Disney plus where it will premiere like it did like Milan did in a possibly A. Higher. Price Point. So that is the report we don't really know anything else concrete for now but I Just, I don't quite like the optics of Disney pushing their first black lead pixar film to Disney plus just after they pushed their first Asian were one of the major Asian lead films to Disney plus and they're just come keeping black widow on the back burner for theater. So does my sort of shoe sense that I don't really like about this sort of situation. I didn't even think about that. My first thought was that Disney keeps on dumping these pixar films I mean I with onward which I guess came out in theaters for what like a week or something, and then got put on he I go to premium beauty and then Disney plus or was it just Disney plus I don't fifty plastic Ono. Okay. I probably said look this up. I think it might have been premium beauty and then Disney class. But it just seems weird like that is that's the way you know. Just seems weird that like Pixar used to be like their mighty giant over at Disney and now they're just like, why do you think what do you guys think that the Pixar films are the ones? that. Are Like just being released out there on. Non Theatrical release especially since these films cost as much if not more of some of these blockbusters that they are not releasing you know on. Premium via D I think probably the the family angle because because. Families are stuck at home and they're more likely to rent this stuff because kids need entertainment because they're loud monsters they around making noise. So that's that's my guess but I could be wrong. Yeah I would say that I would agree with Chris because I, think that it's more along the lines of just how cove it has affected has impacted families and kids who are either doing school remotely from home and have are just kind of stuck in their houses. So I think in Gen- my generous reading of that is that Pixar films appeal to the younger demographics in appeal to children. So I think it's just their way of trying to. Target these audiences expect because they did some things not similar with frozen too but they also released early to Disney streaming before it was it's window closed for between the theater and digital slash vod release. Yeah. I've been joking that the twenty twenty movie season has been canceled. The joke is. Quickly becoming a reality. Again. At first it was. It was just like. I was kidding about it, but it really seems like you know what do we have left? We have bond and I guess black widow is going to be delayed. Is there any other movies coming out this year that are? Do. Without. Just got moved to Christmas. I can't remember. Wonder. Woman. But November is basically vacated now and is probably a matter of time before MGM moves no time to die again. You know this pandemic is so depressing guys. But soon, we can laugh about it because South Park is going to be doing virus episode Ben Thomas. Yes. Oh South Park for the first time in this show has been on since the late nineteen ninety s end. They have never made an hour long episode but that is about to change later this month with what they're calling the pandemic special, which is the first hour long episodes. South Park. That is going to be a hit comedy central on September thirtieth, and it is going to be about randy coming to terms with his role in the code nineteen outbreak and. The kids going back to school and that whole situation being all screwed up in. Weird. Cartman may or may not actually have the Coruna virus it's unclear but there's a little teaser trailer. So if you're interested in in the show, you're still watching it You can watch the the trailer at the link in the show notes but yeah, I mean. Peter is talking about we can laugh about it. Are we ready to laugh pandemic Ben. I don't think I am. You know we're about to cross two, hundred, thousand people dead and it's not. It's not really a a moment for me that that it's time to laugh yet maybe one day we'll be able to look back on this and be like. that a crazy time but I'm not there yet. I don't know maybe. Maybe, it will help to distract a little bit but when the episode is like explicitly about this, then I don't know I don't know maybe this will do something for some people I just don't see it doing anything for me personally in this moment I, think everybody's reacting to this in different ways but Yeah for me I don't want to consume any corona virus related content right now. I'm just wondering what can Matt and Trey bring to this situation what what kind of comedic tilt or angle to this like that we? Now. Are you still watching South Park. I gave up last year I had been watching for many many years leading up and eventually just got tired of the shows sort of obsession with Randy's new job, which is he opened a weed farm moved his family out of south like to the outskirts of South Park and it just seemed like so many episodes just focused on that storyline which I did not think was. Funny or interesting in any way, and so it just sort of zapped my my passion for the show and this a pandemic special episode seems a dive right back into that. So I guess if you've been liking what's park has been doing lately, this seems like more of the same and maybe old, you'll get a lot more out of this than I will. But I I think I'm going to skip this one. Yeah Okay, let's talk this Madonna by OPEC. It has locked in a director. It's A. Very, very interesting choice crest sweat. Yes. The director is Madonna's so she is directing her own bio-pic. She's also co writing it with Diablo cody so There's very little chance this is going to be. Objective. Since. Madonna. Is Literally in charge of. Going into the So don't expect anything to. Critical. Madonna I guess since I just can't imagine her. Doing that but at the same time, I I don't think Madonna is actually a big good filmmaker the movies she's made her kind of bad I do appreciate the the Hubris here of like, yes I will direct my own bio-pic. So I'm generally curious to see how this turns out. I do remember Madonna had this documentary to cheat direct truth or dare or did someone else.

Pim's and yeah, you looking. We're GONNA. Do Little little countdown yet. We are got some Robinson's to go with my with Alpo cost today because I can't find the payments to the back of my cupboard somewhere. But yeah, we've decided that actually. We normally debate moments boat. Many movements from Wimbledon over the past decade that we were kind of looking back through them. We all just H is just know enough say we're kind of doing this in teapot Sixteen. Tell you to, but we're just GONNA cut you the first eight day on and see how. So many to kind of two three. I'm also mentioned as well I. May my all whites as well summer, and getting into kind of like getting into the the women, the Wimbledon Spirit and Yes listeners, thanks for facts again in touch this. We put out to ask you. What are some of your dramatic moments from the uniform cade and we really appreciate you getting in touch. Who knows maybe you'll maidment will appear on the list, but yes, we will, of course say caveats. This is our list. This is purely our opinion. We think it's a pretty good list. There are some moments that you will be familiar with, but we think there are some vitamins I feel that have been you know maybe not. You might not be as familiar with, but yeah, let's get. Let's get into it starting a number sixteen in our countdown, and it's one I guess you know for British fans is a very a memorable I will say a fairytale story where we him back to Twenty-six. On its Marcus Willis and His run from you free. Pre would qualify to qualify to the main draw. To play Roger Federer. Is this more of a Fairytale Jolan Peter Cold winning Wimbledon in the film that we discussed on our lots podcast. Possibly say yeah. I feel like made some of our listeners from like ABC's might not even know of this story. They might even have never heard of Marcus Willis. British fans probably happen until two thousand sixteen. And Yeah. He came through the qualifying say. He was ranked down at like seven, hundred and seventy two in the world. Qualified One always marched and qualifying obviously. And then came up against recalled this baron case of I. Think he's Lithuanian in the first round, beat him. which she data alone is kind of pre. Wow, considering his ranking and the disparity between between the t pies and then. Who Does he then face in the second round, nee wombat reporter federal himself say oversee. That was going to be prime on sensical. And I guess teacups, isn't it? It's kind of like Oh. Marcus got through the second round. So annoying. He's paying federal. He could have a had charges against someone else, but on the other side is the actually if he's going to get through to the second round for like probably the only time in his career, he might as well Gad parents on Sundays go play unites the greatest champion. Wounds ever seen. Yeah. I, be the. The second camp I think if I'M GONNA. Go Out I. Want to go out in style and you know what better way to to go out. To have to have? Time, one of the greatest cross players of all time across across from you of from the net I think the story for me remarkable because the the the ingrained image I have in my head of Marcus Willis is. Is actually before this it wasn't. It's not baby. It was he was on like. He was like on a challenge tour event, and he had like a can of coke and a malls Baugh. One of his matches and Clemente to is like I think the commentator coming here. It was basically called him Kaufman for from South Park. and was like is this. Is this guy for real? Is The guy really heavy like? A cat of kind of self drake. Y-, you know tennis by the challenge, Tour and It just shows think it shows you the just the. It was just crazy the way he went from this sort of you know position where he wasn't really kind of know. Yes, he was talented, but I think he was really applying himself. It shows you I think it's a story that shows you that. If you do apply yourself, incredible things can happen and. You know, he went from literally like. Fee, Butts Four coaching is. Club. Thirty pounds of our lessons. To Yes said. Roger Federer, thank you very

"PGA Pittsburgh podcast referred me believes you should treat movements lifestyle, not just an activity. Are The great things that we've seen since Cova. Nineteen started as if anything could be great with something as bad as that is the fact that more people appear to be moving, especially moving outside which is our preferred method of movement. We've taken advantage of the rails to trails and partner and Philip Pittsburgh Lisa. WHO's behind? The camera has started biking more, and she's not comfortable. Riding on the roads. We spent some time in addition to being on the trails, walking and jogging some time riding bikes and one of the things we realized the. The more we bike, the more we look around social media, the more we walk is, there's a whole lot of winding going on with a biker. Saying the walkers get in our way or the runners get in our way and the runners or the Walker. Saying bikers are going too fast, so we thought we'd make this video podcast. You can either share it. We hope you do share it and you can share. Maybe it'll give you some good tips. Maybe you can share it and say look at this idiot. Who's offering these suggestions? So a couple things to remember is we have gems in Pittsburgh these rails to trails, and for the most part, unless somebody gets on it with a car, who shouldn't be it? We don't have to worry about cars having lived. Norfolk Virginia, having lived in Atlanta, Georgia, not having to worry about cars for running or walking or biking is absolutely phenomenal thing, but it doesn't mean that we can forget that we're still in a public place for still sharing so one of the most valuable tips we should remember no matter what we're doing running walking hanging out with our dogs. Taking your kids out is recognized that we're sharing the trail. The International Mountain Bike Association had the Hashtag actually reasonable for Hashtag share the trail way back in the nineteen nineties and think about this when you go out on the trails, even if you're a North Park if you're in South Park if you're Mingo Creek, Park your guest, your guest of the county, your guest of the Montour trail. It's volunteers, so think about what can I do to not only make my experience phenomenal, because movement is a lifestyle, but also make everybody else just some things we've seen in. If we've done these things to anybody who sees it, we apologize. Nobody's perfect errors are made. First thing is just be aware of your surroundings, so I ate listening to music or podcasts. What I run or walk or bike? If you'd like to do that, think about either getting something like trucks bones. They're outside the your headphones, or if you want to use headphones, put one in one year. So that way you can hear somebody calling out saying hey, watch out biker on the left runner passing you something like that not only is it for safety for you? Because nobody thinks anything's GONNA happen to them until it happens, but it also is being collegial and being nice to other people and really sharing the trail. On those same tokens, a lot of people like to get outdoors because they want to get away from all that noise in society. You know if you're if you're sitting in traffic. If you're in a bar restaurant is yes, you can do that now. You have a noisy workplace. Being out in nature is a wonderful thing, so if you're thinking maybe I'll just play my phone on speaker. Think again and remember share the trail. Maybe not everybody has your taste in music. I know most of you probably WANNA. LISTEN TO FIT LAB PITTSBURGH, but not everybody else. Else does another thing thing to think about is when you're on. These trails whether there trails or other things being aware of people who are coming behind you whether runners walkers bikers stroller runners I've actually been out running a race by a man. Pushing a stroller ran about fourteen, fifty, five five K was a little embarrassing for me until I found out, he was a lead running with his child, but just be aware, and if you're two or three abreast talking, you see, somebody's coming up behind you kind of be polite and go single file. Same thing if you're coming up on somebody else and you're walking till the brass. They're walking to abreast or their cycling. Two abreast kind of go single file for that. If you're overtaking, people think about it looks like if you're on a bicycle, this is especially common that we've seen when we're running or walking. bicyclists are fast even if you don't think you're going fast when you going ten eleven miles an hour. That's really fast, so maybe try to thread the needle between people if people are passing on the trail kind of hang back a second

"Over the past several weeks. The entertainment industry is in deep trouble concert. Venues movie theaters and comedy clubs are closed. There's no more Broadway or live action television and film production but there is one show business segment that is weathering the storm surprisingly well here to talk about it. Is Ali Green? She's the vice president of animated productions at Adult Swim and she joins us from her home in Atlanta Ali. Welcome to the show. Hi John Thanks for having me. Let me start with this. Why is animation particularly well suited to deal with the impact of the Krahn Virus flipper animation? It's collaborative but everybody is already working independently and mostly talking about two D. and somewhat three but everybody already sort of network and using a lot of the software already so just the big change is to send everyone home and not have that immediate feedback. One of the things I know about animation is that typically there are huge render farms computers. That are doing the animation computer work if you are working remotely. How do you process all of the data because a lot of home? Computers can't really handle that kind of processing. Yeah so John. That actually is sort of pain. Point now for everybody A lot of the residential WIFI speeds are just not up to the challenge. So what we've been doing is kind of going back to Ethernet and Going back to hard drive. And what about the voice actors because typically you are animating to voices? They are reading scripts. So how has that process changed because clearly? Your Voice. Talent can't be in with a director in with recording studio. How do you manage that? So some of the voice actors. That'd be work with have home studios. We are sending higher. End Microphones to some of our regular talent when we're not able to do that. We're using scratch audio. So you've got a bunch of series some in production some that are probably imposed overall. What series are affected or? Do you feel like pretty much. Your whole slate is moving forward at the right pace. A lot of our shows deliver well in advance of their premier so we have robot chicken coming back because they had already delivered but as a stop motion show that is also one. That looks a little bit more like live Action Ones Hughes. Start shooting it With Rick and more de we are in the process of automation and Rough Assembly. So we have our animation house that sense all of their animators home and they're composites home I don't know how technical you WANNA get. But basically he livery process for each of these scenes to the show unit is basically the same. We're talking with all green. The vice president of animated production for adult swim a lot of anime shows do their pre and post production in the states but a lot of the actual frame by framework has done other countries like Canada or South Korea. How are you managing the international workflow? And how do you go about trying to ensure that they have safe practices in place at work? We're making sure that each studio that we work with every country is following the appropriate guideline. You know this seems like nobody. We're not really doing the sweatshop thing You know like we work with reputable studios so you know in Canada. Means everyone's working from home Mexico those studios that we work with are also doing the same. So much of what happens in animation is quick and that writers and shows can react to the news. Do you see some adult. Swim shows being topical. That's something that we can do in our small Pearl Jam but No normally actually. Our show is hunter pretty long time. The writing period is fairly long and then the process of animating is even longer you know. South Park can do it for sure. None of our shows are set up like that. It's it's no secret that broadcast networks cable channels and streaming platforms that rely on live action scripted content. Pretty sooner run out of new shows because they can't make them could this kind of odd way be a boom time for animation because you are able to deliver new and original content when a lot of other people can't Absolutely I think we're seeing that you know. I think it had already started to me and that. There's just so many options from preschool. All the way through to adult for animated content. You want to add that you know I think industry-wide there's this overwhelming sense of gratitude that we you know almost survivor's guilt that we are still able to make these shows. We've always been so lucky to be here but now more than

So Long And Thanks For All The Renewable Energy

"To you. Did what now podcast where we discuss stories and science and tech that make us ask exactly that he everyone. Thanks for listening on your go. Stephanie Educator in silence efficient on air and I'm like Oh Programmer Tech Guy. Hello Stephanie. Happy Monday happy Monday Mike. How's it going US good Keeping busy but not as busy as Elon. Musk apparently you see all these Elon. Musk updates that have been coming out of the year. And guess what's going on with align. Well we mentioned airlink Supposedly he tweeted out a tweet a couple of weeks ago whenever was that he says the upgrades since the last like public press conference or wherever he did it is awesome headaches expires to show it to us this summer. Sometime I guess a monkey controlling the computer and then he didn't actually get to put it in a in a human last year but he's hopeful that maybe that could happen this year too so he's putting near a link in in a monkey. Yeah he's he says. There is a monkey controlling the computer just to catch everybody up. The neuro link. Is the this like brain interface thing where he's drilling tiny holes in in putting all sorts of little wires in your brain to help you Control computers with your mind okay. So you thought he's already got in the monkey control computer he's got update plan for the summer is going to. I guess does the Monkey. I guess I totally missed that in the news so Thank you that's terrifying. Monkey is controlling computer. Like I mean. What does the monkey do when it's on a computer? I mean I mean I guess you showed a picture of a banana added of bananas. All Day we'll see I guess. This'll this'll be whatever this. Prescott what he did what he decides. It's probably consumption. He said the summer. Maybe he'll have a a relief. I want to follow this monkey on twitter. Felt like this is a missed opportunity. You just want to know you know. Well maybe once they show us. The by presumably monkey will feature in this video or whatever with a release in the summer. So I'm sure we'll see a monkey short soviet-created twitter account. Yeah I just WanNa know what what a monkey does when he gets on the computer. What sites is he going to you? And what videos is he watching? What does he like you know? Yeah WanNa see his tick tock okay. Let's sing so he also I. This is less exciting or Aureus in Hashtag -able but a tesla solar is coming out. This year should be like a public roll out him. Solar panels and You take a look at them. They're actually they're not as like obvious. I guess is the Word Book for in on Euro as traditional solar panels. You know whether or not you like them or not. They're kind of up there. Kinda obvious solar panel. Your roof does look like a roof. The Tesla ones apparently look like just kind of like a roof for the most part. How many manage that the other one? I mean the ones by neighborhood are very obvious that you've got eight solar panels on your roof there. They kind of stick out. But some people even banned like homeowner associations which whatever but what happens for those people. I want to get it to homeowner associations because we started one another podcast on that. I'm sure the justice low ones almost just like black like shiny roof panels. You if you weren't looking for me might not even notice. Yeah but how much are they? That's what I WANNA know. Because when we looked into solar panels it was going to take us about twenty years to break even year which is a bad over. The most mortgages but I I think some New Jersey. I think it's better than that. It depends on your exposure. Sometimes governments have rebates and stuff for For Energy you know for being and efficient. Because you're you're basically selling it back to them. Do you would think so. But it doesn't always work out exactly like you know exactly like that. There's only so much it was. It was really weird so we did not end up going with it but I feel like if there's a tesla solar panel for your house my husband definitely GonNa one eight you know. He's already he's already waiting for that. Tesla track so if you if they're making some if they're making some some advances to this would make it easier on our Puckett but then I think that's great. Let's go for it will check it out. I'll throw some links up in the John. Oates is I usually do and It looks pretty cool of is I don't know where they're gonNA roll it out if it's everywhere it's GonNa be cheap. Who knows yeah bonus you know? Can you buy a Tesla truck and get a rebate your solar panels on bundle and Save Save? You got you got your brain. You got a solar panel. You get a tesla chuck price of one. Maybe baby the solar panel can power the The computer that you're using to control your brain. I want to control the Solar Plant Pinot with my brain genuine cutting but so energy solar panels. Actually that's what I want to talk about today. So okay the the transition here. Yeah solar panels. I mean you. You just mentioned that you looked into it. I have trees so I cannot Gets alert south southern facing trees or whatever that cash shade which is nice because my house cooler backyard shaded but I can't get solar panels so many talked about. We've talked wanting to put solar panels on the road for Carts. Dr On so yes I mean. Obviously energy crisis is a thing. The plant is warming were burning coal debate. Yeah it's all sorts of bad things happening so energies obviously up popular research toppings. There's a lot going on whether it really I found interesting was sort of like anti solar panel. An anti solar panel right now doesn't sound good. It's a catch you into the dark. Marvel Verse Ser so darks. Anti solar panel would be one that generates electricity at night. How is it going to generate electricity? At night. Can't the Moon's he's the Moon's light well? The Moon is solar panel. I mean but it's not bright enough generally for right for so this. This is an article I found in kind of a bunch of places but CNN dot com. So he's he jerry Monday. A professor at the University of California Davis. He's working on a prototype that basically keep generating power at night. The idea is that solar panels are cold. Objects pointed at the hot sun absorbed the light and generate power. This would be the opposite. You would heat up the solar panel or the Anti Solar Panel Thermal radio to sell would heat up point of the night sky much cooler object and that would radiate infrared light and that would generate energy. You did what now yes. We're turning night into power. This doesn't make sense to me at all explained that all over again so regular. Solar power generates power by absorbing sunlight which causes a voltage to appear cross device for current to flow and devices later instead admitted your heating up the device and it's emitting light and the current and voltage. They go in the opposite direction but would still generate power from different materials but the physics is basically the same interesting so it only makes our at night. These would only yes only make our at night. I guess you will. Maybe you could have some sort of dual device where sweat swaps because you have to heat up the part of the panel to generate the heat at night when it's cooler so I will. Obviously this is still just prototype stuff but you have a device that does both. Maybe you're you. Have you know. Maybe the South Park facing part of Your House. The Sun to be daytime. Get The Sun and you put us the other side of the House for nighttime powered pointed at Cooler Sky. Because that's not as it doesn't really matter the skies cool whether or not there's light or not. I mean I guess so but is it really need if you already have solar panels on your house or a you know using power to really need that extra anti-ciller panel well. I mean solar panels. Not exactly useful. How expensive it was. I mean. They're not necessarily perfect. They don't generate necessarily enough power. And then you get rainy gays stretching rainy days you neutral go negative in terms of power consumption versus power generation and this help create more power. I mean anything that create more power is generally good. Sure I mean I. I could absolutely see being the usefulness in places that maybe don't get a lot of sunlight you know so I mean I. I would be eligible for something like this campus. So maybe this would be a way for somebody like me to have you know golf. Set power a little bit. Could or you know some. Yeah like you said you're way up. North way down south we are Deitz. You Switch Unites Twenty hours or eighteen hours. Sometimes when you're on that part of your revolution around the sun like this would be probably a good idea. Yeah I still baffles me. Mind that you can get energy out of darkness. I still still like crazy to me.

But yeah, anyway, but they just made they actually made a lot of jokes about priests on south park, and like ashrams I saw. Yeah. The news is pretty good. So far. I like to is the new one with the the one that make fun of the Simpsons the PU Mr. Hanky. All right. I didn't like that one. Yeah. I mean, it's partial to be funny. But yeah, the religion was my favorite really good clean cleanup crew. Become so bad. Yeah. Increase around and clean up their mess. Yes. Oh god. I have no idea what we're talking about. The thing is like that's a very popular joke to make a little boys is not appropriate. Is that hurting the situation at all? Or is it helping people joke about it? I'm not asking you personally. I'm asking myself. It's theoretical listening think free to let us know somehow in south park's pretty irreverent they'll make fun of anyone for anything that's in general in everyday life or like, oh, like don't go. You know, colleagues are do you ever see? Atheism. Like on shows like that. That's just makes you angry at how it's like represented. Like, do you got mad over like, I know that you people think you don't have like morals. But are there other things that like like is does is eighth Lia atheism in its own way? A religion. Not no. I guess. It's a sexual where it's like. Yeah. I may sexual but it doesn't really mean. Anything to me because I just nothing. You know what I mean? Yeah. A sexual. And say. As a religion, less religion. It's just a term to describe. It's just a term. Okay. Got it. This is the word like there really isn't like an atheist church. No, no. It's just it's just a lack. It's really. It's like somebody's as symptomatic. They just don't have some gosh, don't have a religion. But I will say that there is like an idea of like the internet atheist, right? Because there's like a group of the slick they call the skeptic community online..

"I, I do know a lot of people reference the member member Bury's. So Chris, do you have any thoughts. You know, I, I don't want to be Smerch the show because I know there are people who are are still fans of it, but I'm of the mindset that literally no show should run for more than twenty years. That's just insane. Ever even shows. I love with all my heart. I don't want them to run that long because there's only so many stories you can tell. I mean, I used to, I was a huge Simpsons fan and you know, I'm still, I'm one of those people who can quote almost every line from the Simpsons for its first like eight or nine seasons, and but after that, you know, the show got really bad and it's still onto this day and it really should not be I, it's it's, I think it's, you know, people have hard time letting things go and it's okay. Sometimes things should end and there's nothing wrong with that. Just, you know, let it let it sail off into the sunset it. Should you have any thoughts on this? I know that you're not a you haven't really ever watched south park now. I do think it's still part of the landscape today. I have plenty of friends who do reference and talk about south park frequently, but I don't think it's quite the behemoth it used to be. It'll, it'll be interesting to see if this season season twenty two will be the end of south park. I, I mean, it seems like they're kind of setting it up as such, but you never know even if it was the end. I like we live in a world, but there's a Roseanne, you know, TV series on television that will, and grace is still on. And you know, all these like fuller house, you know, even if this were to come to an end, like I imagined that it would come back from the dead. You know, five, ten years from now, you know if there's money to be made. You know th they'll they'll find a way but, but it is interesting especially with these intimated series where where it's, you know, not as tied to actors in e, you know, especially when the filmmakers themselves provide a lot of the voices for the show like you can. You can kind of keep on going for as long as they want if there's a market for it, but it just I, I guess, time for Trey Parker, Matt stone to reevaluate like, you know, what is south park doing for society today, like I is it you know are, do they feel like their best work is coming out right now? Or is it you know. You know something that has kind of suffered from that, you know twenty two year timeline, but yeah, anyways, that does it for today's.

"By those digital movie codes for like a dollar or two more than it costs to rent the movie on itunes or apple TV. So I have for a while now just been buying those just because I'm willing to pay a dollar or two more, but I'm not sure if I'm gonna unless it's a movie, I love. I don't think I'm going to watch it. You know, the four or five times required for me to make my money back if I buy it. That said buying, it's the only way you can get the special features, which is something I glove, which I'm missing a lot of, but I guess it's not stopping a lot of people out there. Like a lot of people I think are probably going to urge just renting which is this isn't affect renter's right. I don't think so. Yeah. Yeah. So if anybody has any thoughts on that listing, send your thoughts to Peter out slash dot com. Maybe we will read some emails in a future mailbag episode, but I see Chris, do you have any last thoughts on the issue? Because I didn't wanna make it a whole defense. My love for digital media. I think you made some very good points. I just, I don't know. I will end you know, while I acknowledge that one day I do think a lot of studios are going to do away with their their physical copies. I do think there's always going to be boutique labels like shout factory and criterion putting out physical, it'll it'll basically be like what vinyl is now vital used to be the standard and now it's like a niche collector's item. And I do think eventually, you know, physical media for Blu rays will turn into that and I'm not looking forward to it. So we'll see what happens. Mondo will be putting out all the Blu rays of the future in a collectible artwork. They'll cost fifty dollars a piece probably. That that is our future. Let's move onto our last and final story in that is that someone is demanding south park's cancelation in that person actually is south park it tell us about it. Yeah. So south park long running animated comedy that has been on comedy central since nineteen. Ninety-seven is teasing. It's owns cancellation the new trailer for season two seasons, twenty. Two of the south park show basically t's a possible cancellation. And if you check out the south south Twitter, there is a hashtag with almost all of their recent tweets saying, cancel south park, Trey, Parker, and Matt stone. Other creators for the series have been teasing this the end of the series since twenty eleven in one episode which they kind of referenced the end of the show or at least being fed up with their own show. And it seems like this could possibly be the end. Now, I know no one on this podcast is still watches south park. So we're probably the worst sample for this. I, I know I am. I was big fan of the show early on. I I, I was one of those people. They had that like spirit of Christmas episode on VHS. I bought from some comic convention or something before south park even was on the air. And you know, I watched those first few seasons. I think everybody was kind of caught up in those first few seasons. But somewhere along the line, it kind of got away from me. Kind of like the Simpsons has like, you know, it's, it's been so many years and I, you know, I've seen some things I've seen like the member berries and stuff. So I'd how do I I'm just wondering, is south park, even that big of a part of pop culture landscape today?.

"A thinking thinking of things structurally it certainly seems like south park is able to be what south park is because trey parker and matt stone our great friends and it seemed like they might not have a lot of friends in the wider hollywood world date they reference that meant donald averages yeah it's a when people say something like that the documentary i do always wonder like how much do you really mean it but i can really believe it from these two four everything that they have done over the course of their careers but it's like there's there's an interesting moment here because it kim like southsouth park will really make fun of celebrities and and people in the public eye in in a way that very few other shows will go like as hard into it as south park will but i i do think that doesn't just happen it happens structurally because of the personality of these two and because they don't really have any connections with the wider hollywood world that go so far as to reject it but the thing that lay really highlights that in the documentary is the one of the writers in the writer's room works on saturday night live and explicitly says how and saturday night live the the politics of making fun of public people comes into the writing of their skits as i ha i i can see that and i i would think like that's also probably one of the reasons why it at least to my tastes south park is way funnier than saturday night live and it's because saturday night live is slow.

"That's my answer but i would take family guy over the simpson's emu nest wrong but why the wrong this is this is a look i will accept you thinking south park is better because south park is clever and funny family guy has to be the most overrated of those types of cartoons ever man has hit a couple good seasons in the beginning i don't think it was the same show when he came back from cancellation i think they tried to force a lot of jokes the flassbeck thing became a fullon gimmick was the simpsons of course started but they didn't rely on at every single minute of this show through it got two gimmicky man and i was a huge fan of family guy i liked it allied to but when it came back neck cancellation it wasn't the same david oh that a got cancelled to be perfectly honest i remember ed season one and two on my video ipod one of my friends took my video ipod and put them both on my video ipod and i would watch them and the show changed over time you're right at first it was very much along the same lines as the simpson's blood a little bit darker i i liked the darker the darker humor i mean the worse thing that would happened on the simpsons's that homer would choke bart market alike out of west seeing people die and cartoons i hope that makes the orval birds but here we are so that's how you do it ask any question i'll work it into the show attacks twer is getting drunk specifically to drunks text people a bad idea it depends on how witty ur if you think you are very very weighty you're probably not but have that it if you are dubious about your ability to spit out game all drunk.

"South park so it includes clips of south park episodes and lot solve south park cuma which can be very questionable and awkward in some places so the the mic there were that that the humor is questionable there's no question that it can be quite vulgar day go that's a lovely way putting it yes it is tasteless you'll be all her like and like home is funny you're not letting let the question yes yeah the question is more would you want to see it so you probably know at this point if this is something you wanna watch like if you don't know south park i recommend watching it if you know you don't like south park i recommend the watching it we're gonna take a look at how the team works and just talk about that when all going to talk about the content too much because it's not important for the overall discussion yeah this is this is just a thing that has been on our list for long time when you first mentioned it and i have wanted to see this for quite a while because i think the the two guys behind south park are uniquely prolific and they also from what i have of gleamed they work in very different ways and they have also had careers over now at a fantastically long period of time yeah so i think that they are at the intersection of a bunch of things that i'm interested to see a documentary about how they're working so ever since you mentioned to me that this thing existed i have wanted to to see it but but yes i just bilic our interest in seeing this is how do they work is not really a conversation about like what do we think about south park because i think people already know what they think about south park yet uefa like it or you don't like it and they're probably.

"As thanks for having a meeting with us to talk about some of the things that were a bit more questionable in order to make it raided e for everyone yet and then i remember when hot coffee came out like a press was referencing back to the deb diary that i wrote for one up dot com about will this guy from midway we are provided fruit baskets and making it spinning it and like it was a bribe thing rate muslim an all trying to be nice whatever anyway sorry for the the side ted altogether told us or either anyway so he added at the hot coffee mug wow that's this incredible yeah and that was a massive that was a massive massive problem faruk style the time when they lost a lot of money because of it um but yeah that never made it into the mobile visions obviously i think arise though hor done with fucking around with style as to be there used to be a rule with first party where the entire disc had to be full like in order to get your game approved for manufacturing the entire disc had to be full and um i know like not going to say who or what company but i remember they put an episode of south park i think it was like the original south park pilot that they had put onto the diskin uncomprosing video as a wages to to that to fill out a spate right gather so funny let lead the the game industry prior to to what it is i was such the wild west back in the day but arts is to go back to the bug two to finish off at thread right so the vlassis things forward when i think about the fact that you probably had to localise it in so many different languages was there any fun like localization stuff for example where or or or translations sothia done where it's a voice actor had said something different that was on the script or anything from like that i've got no idea about maybe in the regional development but on the mobile vision because of the game being.
