"I'd probably work tomorrow all day. Very late. Burning the midnight oil. Sorry, baby. Stay till 9. Yeah. So that's Shane Irving. Bad Larry, Dylan, the graphics guy. Dan Patrick dot com. It's called Dan Patrick takes a gamble. The gamble is on those three knuckleheads. Yes. I've been to that sports book in new haven, Connecticut, and my brother in law a bunch of years ago, we were watching Kentucky Derby at our House. And it was just family. It was a very benign event, but he bets. And all of a sudden this horse comes around is called mind that bird. I don't know what year was probably at least ten years ago. And he starts pounding the floor. He's a big dude. You met this guy. He's like, go, go, and he's pounding with his fists. And he jumps up, he won $13,000 on the bet. And he goes, would you go with me to pick up my money? And he was nervous that he was going to get jumped walking out with $13,000 from a sports book. But it's pretty cool. Ryan and Honolulu, hey Ryan, what's on your mind today? Buenos dios amigo. Sports names for you. Okay. Friend of the show. Bill burrito. Bill burrito. Okay. How about Ken griffey senor? Can we be senior? A couple of NFL ones here. Quesadilla. Okay. Barcas gringo. How about salsa palantine? We got shakti O'Neal. Dead Patrick. That shut the hell up in south. Palo toio is good. So far there's been a bunch of winners. Anything else? I need a siesta. I'm out. All right, thank you, Ryan. This is a big two day swing for Ryan and Honolulu. May 4th followed by the fourth be with you. Yeah, that's two hammer days out there for him. And he did well. And he's needed that. He's had a rough stretch here. Glad to have him back. Todd, you have any Cinco de Mayo names? I just jotted down taco fall. Okay. Margarita court isn't taco falls as actual name. So I didn't have to change anything. Salsa bando all day's a player that's maybe a lot of once again, guys. Baseball players who are dead. That had OJ Mayo. Okay. in though for you to do it. I needed that extra motivation or not. Yeah. "Is much better. I understand why one's not using it of course. But very good value commentary. Well, if I don't have that one, but it could be anything in between the Oklahoma. It's actually very similar. Circles. It's actually very similar. Nearly starts before of logo, but oh, Mark Webber, what the fuck are dinosaurs? No better words in the English language. Then with Dutch commentary on an F one clip, I think. I'm very confident. Here we go. It was very wet in that way. How to holy shit what are those of withdrawal? What a car control and Vic page me. Okay. Fuck that shit. That was gonna play with bay Tay. Didn't need it. I thought that was great. So we're riding together, we could only dream Pope and pray that that would attract and kill mosquitos in. The second thing I'm interested in is Pierre gasly. He's on ten penalty points. Now, in typical Alpine fashion, it all happened in every Derby and then he will not be able to start. The next season. So here's the thing, right? Inject do it starts to sound. Wouldn't that rule? Wouldn't it? So here's the thing. Let's go back a step. Mercedes says it referred to wind and finished second in the constructor standings. They're probably not going to finish taking any Y but of course they want that because they get more wind tunnel time and on the budget cap doesn't change. They get more wind tuns since you're like tanking. But not as dramatic, obviously. Maybe some of the lesser teams will be taking. Pierre gasly. He's on ten points, guy on your team next to you, you might be saying, only two points away from a race band. I don't think anyone's copped a race band through the point system because it was invented after a man Grosjean's first lap nutcase incident. Surely, you're going to go out and you're just going to drive off the track constantly. To get those points, miss Abu Dhabi and Norton. We're sure the outputs only opt bars are going to go up to midi's motor home this weekend and go Pierre. Think about or AlphaTauri will just turn a blind eye and just in terms of the pit release. Oh, yes. Whenever you want to go. I don't have to tell you what to do. You're the expert. You go when you like, and then all of a sudden edit goes and two race bad. Surely they will do that in Abu Dhabi because at that point it's not bad. He's off the books. Go straight to el pen and test, I think. AlphaTauri will have a vested interest in making sure that Pierre gasly is banned. Or alpay has a vested interest to make sure that he's best. So what is it two races if he's yeah, no, it's one race band. That's right. So LP will want him to get the band this weekend, so he serves an Abu Dhabi. But alpha tauri won the other way around. I want him to cop the band from Abu Dhabi and then miss whatever the first race is, but right. It's high, it's very high stakes, isn't it? That's the one. You got my interest, maybe I'll trade. Maybe I'll tune in at 11 o'clock on ten balls on Monday evening. To watch the replay. I'm not joking. That is actually shocking. The replay time. Why even bother? 11 o'clock, ten bold. Fairly so good. Could be better. It could be on shake. That is the south palo Grand Prix preview just about touching on enough at the end there to warrant the name, talked about other things, most of the episode, but that's okay. We've only got a few races to go. This year, which is very exciting. You couple. Couple. Couple of reviews. Penultimate race of the year. I can not thank goodness. Get around it. And then we get to the usual the circle of life then continues. We then bring in Rodney and Zach. It'll be a weirdly early Christmas episode. People just wait. Male may not appear. You might know. It might be another voice. He's like, they might be old mace. We don't know. We have not planned this. It's crept up. It's me awake so we don't know. Not like it has. We're not thinking that forward ahead into the future. Certainly not. There you go. So maybe the land and the sponsorship of the right time. Many of you are listening in a long car. Ride or on a plane ride. And i'm hoping that you take a little time for yourself. There's so much to watch this week. So i'm hoping that you make a little time for yourself. We've got the premiere of love island and big brother but also some really interesting stuff in streaming media for example if you like true crime there's a new on that's quite a doozy and another case in another part of the world this one brazil. And it's called eliza matsunaga once upon a crime. It's a really interesting case. So leeza is a thirty eight year old woman and a former nurse. She's currently serving a life sentence for the murder of her husband. Marcos her then husband in twenty twelve so she reportedly shot her husband. Multiple times in their south palo apartment before dismembering his body into a plastic bag and then scattering them along in nearby road twenty miles from where the couple lived. This is a spine chilling series. That through a timeline of events dating all the way back to her childhood and adolescent years all the way to the crime itself and it follows the aftermath from her attempts to cover up the murder to the confession including the arrest and trial in two thousand sixteen. And when i say that this was a big case in brazil i mean. I can't say that enough. The reasons for killing her husband remain a mystery but it is thought that our actions were in spite over an argument. According to our defense attorney she killed and dismembered her husband because he threatened to petition for custody in case the couple separated so a must watch. If you love true crime. And i see all those hilarious memes that are like you know. I don't want to be stressed. I just wanna sit down. Have a cocktail like a bowl of popcorn and watch a true crime documentary so this is right up your alley this episode. I'm so excited about. Because i have finally finally tracked down the team at world of wonder they have made. Some incredible television blockbusters like rupaul drag race million dollar listing and they have directed the outstanding new six part. Hbo half hour documentary series. Called catch. And kill the podcast tapes. This series brings to life. Ronin farrow's intimate revealing interviews and whistle blower journalists private guest investigators and other sources which were conducted for the pulitzer prize winning journalist. Podcast and best selling book catch and kill lies. Spies in a conspiracy to protect predators. This is all about harvey weinstein. I mean i've done an episode where i interviewed rosana arquette which you can go back and listen to. This story is so hard to listen to. But so important to understand because harvey weinstein was a film producer formerly of miramax films and the weinstein company any exploited his influential position to commit criminal sexual acts including rape in october of twenty seventeen. The new york times in the new yorker reported that dozens of women had accused harvey weinstein of rape sexual assault and sexual abuse over a period of at least thirty years over. Eighty women in the film. Industry had accused weinstein of such ox. He denied nonconsensual sex and shortly after he was dismissed from the weinstein company was expelled from the academy of motion picture arts and sciences and other professional associations and then retired from public view. Criminal investigations into complaints. From at least six women have been made in los angeles new york city and london and in may of twenty eighteen. He was arrested in new york and charged with rape and other offenses in february of twenty twenty. He was found guilty of rape in the third degree. A criminal sexual act and in march of twenty twenty. He was sentenced to twenty three years of imprisonment. So this is a series all about harvey weinstein and you get to see the interviews happen with ronin and it's really compelling so. I was thrilled to talk to them and they have another. Hbo upcoming series called small town news. Which is hysterical. So funny right up your alley. And i got a chance to talk to them about that as well. And then i just totally switch gears. I chatted with reality. Steve podcast host. And the author of reality steve online steve carbone about this season of the bachelorette with katie as the lead. This season of bachelor of paradise because you know he gets all the scoop and the future of bachelor nation. Now there is a part in the interview where you could consider it a mini spoiler. So if you don't wanna listen to anything avenue the bachelorette because you watch it and you're it's a you know something that you want to keep here and sacred. You might wanna skip Ten minutes into the interview But nonetheless if you love bachelor stuff this is right up your alley because we talk a little bit about some of the the back story of the leads and what happens off season and how they all hang out to each other and use each other for currency for social media and the pressures that come with it so again just fascinating to talk about that juggernaut. I'm hoping that you're having a great week. I really hope that this gives you a little bit of relaxation time and don't forget to watch the season premiere of real housewives of potomac on sunday. "A party. And kind of the remnants of a party. All right. Well, if you're just joining us, I'm Scott Shaffer here with Marisa Lagos. You're listening to political breakdown from KQED, and we're talking with Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren. She represents the city of San Jose and places south like Gilroy and Morgan Hill. We want to ask about your your beginnings. You know, we always like to ask our guests about their childhoods and How they got to where they are. Now. You were born and raised in the bay Area in San Matteo. What was it like back then? So different than it is today, Right? Relieved, actually born in San with you, but my Parents moved to South Palo Alto when I was three years old, so I actually grew up in South Palo Alto and a very different town than it is today. My dad was a truck driver. My mother was a cook at the company, High school cafeteria. And later she was a secretary. The block I grew up on and south power all that was all blue collar. I don't think there was single person who'd gone to college. Everybody. I think everybody was a union member. It was like after World War two. All the G Uys bought these little houses. It was $9000 house with the G I bill. And raise had kids and raise their families and it was a great place of it was kind of difficult for the parents and sometimes, but it was a great place to be a kid and You know, I I have very fond memories of my childhood and on the block I grew up on. Yeah, I mean, you mentioned it was kind of blue collar. I'm curious. It seems like you went pretty headlong into politics at a pretty young age was politics something you all talked about it home. What? Really expected to go to college? Like, what was the vibe around that? My parents and especially, my mother were very political. You know they had they were high school graduates. But you know, no one had gone to college. But my mother really believed in my parent, my father too, but especially my mother that the government belonged to her right. She was responsible for it. And we would walk pretty things. She was a Democrat. And you know, some mothers would go the march of dimes. We did dollars for Democrats awarded the war. And we would go to the Democratic club meetings and a dinner. You know, we would have dinner together every night and we would talk about you know the president and there we would work on campaigns. I'm not everybody did that. I was only later that I found that Not everybody in their dining room was talking about this and so Um Did they expect you to go to college? I don't know. Well, I You know how I went to college. Mrs. Helen Huntington, who just passed away recently was a counselor, Gunn High School and I actually called me in and she said you ought to be thinking about going to college and I said, Well, how am I gonna do that? We don't have any money, and she said, Well, don't worry about that, and I was getting pretty good grades. But, she said get the bees upto A's And, uh, The money will be there, and for some reason I believed her. So I got the beast, The haze and the A's a pluses and I got Noticed that I had won a California state scholarship, and I panicked because I had applied for California state scholars Mrs Huntington had from me, and so I ended up I got into Stanford applied to two colleges Stanford and Berkeley. Because I didn't know where I didn't know. That was the only two colleges I really knew about. And I got into both. But it was cheaper. Go to Stanford because the scholarship didn't cover fees on Lee tuition. And so that's how I ended up doing that. Okay? And when did you start going by so because you were given a Miss Susan, right? I was like 98 and so all my life. I've Yeah, And when and how many people call you, Zoe? Because I've heard you called. So it incorrectly. Someone you don't know me, Um You know, I don't even remember at this point, but it's Zsa long ago. Well, it's stuck, obviously. Yeah, sure did. So go ahead. You know, after law school, I was going to say you we want to talk about when one of your like me and policy areas is immigration on bond, And I'm curious how you came to that was that Did that have anything to do with where you were going to law school and being in California? Or was it just an area of law that interested? You? You know, I think a number of things I was very close to my father's father, who was an immigrant from Sweden. We used to go over to their They lived in San Leandro. We used to go over to their house for dinner like every Sunday and I would just as soon as we got to their house. I'd make a beeline for him, and we would talk until it was time to eat. And he would tell me you know about his life and about being an immigrant and about the old country He loved. America is very proud of being an American citizen. I was very interested in. You know, you just pick up and go to another country and it changed everything. Um, and then I guess I was interested just in the movements of people. I remember when I was, I think it's sixth grade. I did a big well big for 1/6 grader report on the movements of people in Africa. Why was it that you know this group moved here and what you know? And when I worked for Edwards, I did immigration work for him, and I've just always been interested in it. You know, immigration? Made this country I mean, everybody here except the native Americans. Their family came from someplace and recent. I don't have immigrant very close in our family. Yeah, Living something for me. It's my grand parents. Sometimes it might be their great great grand parents. But everybody here came from someplace else. And that's what made the country and made the country great. I think You are one of seven. What are being called closers that Nancy Pelosi Speaker Pelosi has designated do that. That was Linda. Okay. Linda Sanchez okay from Southern California, But nonetheless you are one of seven who are sort of being charged with shepherding through the house. This immigration reform bill that President Biden has sent over..
