The National Weather Service has extended the red flag warning in effect for the Bay Area, as I previously mentioned through 11 a.m. tomorrow. That's because of the additional threat of dry lightning, and they're warning this warning is in effect. For the entire San Francisco Bay region, including the Santa Cruz Mountains, the South Bay, Eastbay Hills and the North Bay Originally that was warning was set to expire at 11 o'clock this morning, but it was extended. Additional thunderstorms in the forecast are expected or have the possibility we should say to spark fires. A red flag warning.

His family is offering $100,000. Wendy Gillette, CBS. 605 at the Bay Area's new station, KCBS. We have thunder lightning just about everything for you this morning. Good morning on Jennifer Hodges. Here's what's happening. Now I just said lightning and thunder ripping through the Bay Area right now, The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning. It's in place for most of the Bay Area until 6 45 this morning for about 45 more minutes. Weather Service meteorologist Ryan Walburn says they're very worried about the lightning, starting more fires windows in excess of 50 miles an hour in the city. Over 60 miles an hour up in Santa Cruz mountains. And of course, anybody who's up right now is noticing lots of lightning out there. That's one of our biggest threats. Uh, a lot of cloud to ground strikes. We've had over 1000 strikes over the last couple hours. On. We're very concerned about new wildfire starts this morning. Walburn says The storms are expected to calm down later this morning, but then pick up once again with the chance for more lightning. Later today, firefighters in the South Bei er, very busy battling a vegetation fire on brush road in the Redwood Estates area of low scatters that one is currently threatening structures. "Chandler I am the executive director of the Livermore valley wine growers association I have had the pleasure of serving in this role for twelve years now okay and Richelle number cells that occurred I'm the executive director for Livermore downtown eek so we are the downtown association mainstreet program and I've been involved in this whole process for nineteen years now well I've watched it all right and start with you why has it taken nineteen years because of you don't like every community we were used we used to be a very quiet Hellboy town kind of your world I remember I remember his surprise now it's vibrant the bay area it has moved to us were definitely part of the fiber of those have a disco bay area and still gets real hot in the summer it does work well your sunshine in the summer you need to bring people come on over I. and you know there is an M. B. nimby attitude definitely I think a lot of things were done over the years to protect our open space create a south Livermore plans of developers didn't turn it all to housing a real conscious effort to you to preserve agriculture of part of our history our wine olives are everything right in the in the immediate area people close to San Francisco off times will realize how important it is to protect those agricultural interests absolutely and in reality this infill housing in these affordable housing projects were always part of the plan you know build in build better before building out and so it's a constant you know things move forward and then somebody's upset because they've got theirs and they don't want to share all right let's go to back to Trish over here because she's on the council how how great is the need in Livermore I understand from let's see Dave Chu and Scott Weiner that we need in the entire state of California or three point five million residential units short on where we should be that's a lot of units where what's the status in Livermore how short is Livermore well I would prefer to look at that is a regional issue and entirely and so let me let me just say another word about myself I was recently elected the most interesting thing for me has been this whole regional interest of housing transportation and jobs connections I'm so it's really needs to be looked at as a regional issue that said within liver more we are working to to fill arena numbers we are working to build we have possibilities of for example a transportation oriented development that would add about four thousand homes should that be approved this specific development that we're talking about right now I find interesting for another reason that was not simply because of the affordable housing it's because. housing by itself is not sufficient what you need is also to have infrastructure and you need to have amenities the really wonderful thing about this project is that it brings affordable housing along with the amenities that go with it we have cultural we have a cultural core that goes with that we have the shops and we have done it in a way that enhances the character of the community what really drew me into this the. civic engagement in this at this level was the idea that we could collaborate to not only do affordable housing but you do it in a way that enhances communities so what what are we talking about in terms of the objection it sounds like but people are pretty hot on this moving forward there was affordable housing money that was given for this project so affordable housing certainly it would seem has to be a part of of what this it involves so where is the sticking point how bout you Lisa I will I'm but I can't answer that first question a little bit more specifically the land is actually purchased was purchased by affordable housing money we are obligated to build affordable housing good because if you're gonna use affordable housing money than by god that's what it's death exactly we're obligated to do it it's the honorable thing to do it's the right thing to do and it's what we need and what the the city staff and the city council was able we're able to broker which is really wonderful is when the nimbis the not my backyard folks said we want fewer units we want fewer units we were able to bring the units down from about four hundred twenty two hundred and thirty that's fewer than a third. and instead of the traditional way of approaching it where you ask the developer to set aside ten percent of the housing as affordable we said okay our obligation and the real need is for the affordable so for going to reduce it from over four hundred to you know just a little above a hundred they were going to go to a hundred percent affordable but it's affordable work force because as we all know we have people who have full time jobs and are homeless or living out of their cars we have to work on the housing and homeless issues in stages and at all levels so having workforce housing for people that are working in the area right downtown and as as council member and the rose said you know to be able to have your access to your A. station which is right there the bus system was just right there and jobs makes the whole package work together okay I I'm I'm not I'm not understanding exactly what it is that where the objection arises is I mean what are the nimbis objecting to it sounds as if it sounds as if what we have is a plan that so many people have participated in putting together that's been worked out on a community basis to try to accommodate the interests of a lot of people I'd like to see more than a hundred and thirty seven a thirty units of affordable housing but you know it's something it's something that should be move forward on I I'd like to interject it's not just a hundred and thirty units of a foot it's actually two hundred and seventy and the reason for that is the way that this came about is that the this document who are part of this these are the rodeo association those people of a long historical connection to deliver more traded did a land swap and so we were able to put a hundred and forty units of senior and veterans housing glowing in a low income housing offsite and so together it's actually two hundred seventy units one housing okay and is that was that a good thing I mean they're going to be close to. that Iran's and is it going to provide for the people who are seniors are they going to have the infrastructure that they need with those housing units we believe so okay all right so I I have not yet included Kristin in very much of this. what do you think is the nimby objection what are people really objecting to win so many entities have gotten together and said yeah this is what we need to do this is what we like this is what we want and it seems like everybody has had been able to put their thing in and come up with a project that it seems like she just move forward without delay. I I think that some of the objections stem from. political and. respective that have been long held on what is best for the community and like what. I'm certain theaters that have have been built and the and the hope that potential new theaters could be added this brings us back to our Jones. okay so she's the one who kinda got this thing started which she did it did she with the money that she received she convinced leadership and fourteen million and affordable housing many purchase a prime parcel land the downtown core what the plan was to build a two thousand seat regional theater apart connection for an apartment units were originally proposed is so what happened has any of that happened has she built her theater. she is not built an additional theater there's there's the leveling bank had theater that resides in the heart of downtown the downtown community and I and I think that her efforts over the years have have contributed greatly to the city of Livermore and its growth however I think that the sheer collaboration by so many entities nonprofit organizations small businesses that have collaborated and come together to work together to move things forward changes the dynamic now and I think I think one of the the challenges is having this complicated conversation is very hard with one weekly newspaper and no variety or counter balance of opinions that create some issues so it's impacting with the people of liver more understand about the project and it's something that they're going to be casting votes on that's correct and that's happening in November I understand it so one of the things that we understand is taking place is that there's been paid petition signature great gatherers who are very aggressive you guys can see the picture has a happy ending one man would be bleak the picture would be believed yeah Ron asked a nasty spending four hundred sixty thousand dollars on a local election to provoke to candidates that support her plan used paid signature gathers again to start an initiative that would implement her plan with our affordable housing and paid signature gatherers to referenda city decision last month okay wait I want to go to this that it would implement her plan without affordable housing are there two competing plans is that what we're talking about there's only one plan that's been vetted for feasibility through multiple layers of and that's a good one the one that included more about healthy went through years of process to make sure that everyone was hurt and I think you know getting back to when your previous questions what's the issue what what causes people to be you know joining this fight against at the small group is let's be honest it's a. socioeconomic bigotry I stop okay I'm. and when we come back we'll talk about the socio economic bigotry which exists in all of our communities but it is something that we cannot allow to thwart doing what is the right thing to do for our communities so we'll be back we have a whole passel of guests here we're talking about affordable housing in Livermore and this is indicative of how friggin hard it is to get things done especially when you're talking about housing something that is crucial is crucially important and it is the responsibility of every community to provide this housing for the people who live with in that community and unfortunately it is still so doggone hard there are way too many obstacles to overcome we'll continue our discussion when we return I'm.
