I just don't want it to be successful in taking apart the country at destroying this great nation. Just my opinion. That's just Ah, wish I have. Is that wrong for me to want that? I don't think so. I don't think so. Okay, The phones were open and still jumping. So let's see if we can get through some of these people calling Triple 86309625. I do have to get to some of the other topics specifically the travel ban. Specifically, uh, there's some things Joe said yesterday. That really bothered me. Joe Biden. The President Steve in Arlington is on the phone. Steve, Welcome to the program, Sir. What's on your mind? A couple things that make the real quick. It didn't presidents and stand it were too much to what the Democrat Steve's got. Steve's got a bad phone. I can't Hey, we're gonna have to hold down, Stephen, clear that up quickly. Let's jump over to a Kevin in Virginia, Kevin You. We got a little time before. I have to go to news. What's on your mind? Kevin? Hi. How you doing? I'm good. I'm good. What's your question? What's your thought? I have. My two thoughts are the first thing I heard. I just turned on the show about 15 minutes ago on one of the first things I heard was that Democrats have have made the statement that if something is not impeached That the Republicans will pay for that, with the whole reason that Trump was being tried right now is for making what was considered a threatening statement and insurrection. So my question is By the Democrats, making that statement that if he's not impede the Republicans will pay for it is a vast hypocrisy that they they just faded dressing statement at the end of a trial that was based on the threatening statements. Yes, it's hypocrisy. It's irony on Asafa Cleon level,.

"Could he shake his hand? Tell us a bit about that interaction. The amazing thing about you, Chuck. We're being is he was the most honest person most honest leader I ever dealt with What I mean by that is a he couldn't tell a lie. He physically couldn't tell a lie. He was also intellectually honest with himself. On. He couldn't disguise what he felt. And he his feelings towards our fact We're so ingrained so deep because of acts of terrorism that our fight had been responsible for. That just stayed with him emotionally stayed with him. So when he gets to the White House even before he gets to the White House, he wants to be sure are fast, not going to be in uniform. He has to be assured. He's not gonna be bringing a gun. We tell him. Don't worry when I let anybody bring guns into the White House, But he is everything is is grudging with him towards our fat because it's so difficult for him. To actually be there with him, and then the idea that he has to shake hands with him. It's just it physically emotionally viscerally is simply difficult for him. And I had something to that drama Ringo head, you know, I heard the process of making the movies. I heard all those amazing stories from Dennis and from all the others. And my my challenge was how do I create visual references to what they're speaking about? I was gonna ask you about this because the visuals are amazing. The film in the stills Yeah. Yeah, And, amazingly, we discovered that all of those events which have bean happening behind closed doors. Have been documented by the White House. Still photographers and there is a lot and they are almost invisible. So they are like a fly on the wall. And they document all those amazing moments that I only heard the stories from Dennis and And when I managed to create to combine the those moments that were told to me like Arafat, Rabin sees our effort for the first time in what police have described Now and you have that visually in the film in front of you. So you see all those moments all those amazing moments in front of you in the film. There's dramatic tape in on the South Lawn when the two leaders speak. Arafat speaks. It's in Arabic, and it's translated on the film, but we do have some tape. Have a bit of Utah Rabin's speech. Remember, it isn't easy for him to shake Arafat's hand. "Blazer show. How are you, Brother, please. I'm doing well, Thank you so much for having me on my friend, you know, watching former President Trump this morning he leaves the White House for the last time as president, as far as we know. Out under the South Lawn into Marine one, then heads to joint base Andrews and gives a very good speech. I think where, he says, you know, I'll be back in some form will be back in some form. Good speech. I thought and quick and kind of to the point. Then we watch him climb onto Air Force One. For the last time and away he goes. So what are we looking at? Now? What is next for Trump and or his family? Well, you're one of the things he said in that speech was, in essence, It was kind of like the Terminator line and just tear uprising that he'll be back, but that he wasn't necessarily going away, he could still present on he would still help. What he could to make America great. And with that, you know, after literally the plane was taking off with Frank Sinatra's My Way being played over the loudspeaker system there from joint base, Andrews. But, um, that That is just I think the starting point for President Trump here. We know that he has to figure out a plan to get himself Who's gonna defending him when it comes to his impeachment in the Senate trial, That is the next step immediately. As far as the time friend goes, we've got to figure out who's gonna have being the defense form, but above and beyond that he's got other things that he's been talking about and working out. He's been talking about creating like a multimedia company. Streaming news service or television service on some level that he's going to be losing into here. I tend to think that that's exactly why Steve Bannon got himself a bit of a reprieve. Got himself a pardon last night was because President Trump wants this guy who's been very devoted to President Trump. Even when they don't get along. They he's been very devoted and supportive, and has defended President Trump's decisions. You want somebody like that with the background that man and has to help him create this company, this media coverage, So that's one element that I think is in play. Another one is you heard the president. Not happy with GOP members not happy with the Republican Party Not happy with Mitch McConnell the day of the vote count and the riots in D. C. Tending to say that the vote was not right then that it was a fair election. And then you saw Mitch McConnell yesterday, even indicating that the president was solely responsible for whipping the cardinal that caused the riots. Two weeks ago. Well, you're seeing President Trump not happy with this. McConnell, another GOP members, So there's talk that he's interested in forming a new political party. Third Party of Well, you said that, like the name the Patriot Party, As of according to what I saw on Twitter yesterday at Real Patriot on quitter has started that supposedly going to be the Twitter account for This Patriot party maybe coming. There's 90,000 people following it so far, whether or not this is something president Trump wants to move into yet to be seen, because while he's interested, and he's been talking to aides about it, it's going to require a significant investment of time and resource is You get a third party off the ground. So how much does he want to put into that? But that's something else. I think he's going to be watching and maybe boosted if you had your own streaming network news or television service of some kind, so There's under, I would say there's other chefs in the Trump kitchen, helping them try to come up with things to do for a life outside of the presidency Well, and you know, there's something a couple things you name there that he happens to have re sources and money and more resource is and more money. So there's that. I wouldn't be surprised at all. If You know, something like that begins getting it all the way off the ground is yet another thing, But I think there are several million people. I don't know that we can say all 74 or 75 Million people that voted for him would be defecting if you will, but I think there would be a several Several million that probably would. But that remains to be seen Talk to me about the pardons that he is issued anything jump out at you as a surprise or or what's your thoughts on that? I would say the surprise is probably were in what wasn't included in in the apartment. If we know, for instance, that the little Wayne got apartments, and then we were expecting Kodak Black, another rap star who was had gun charges filed against him that somebody who got a pardon One with a little interesting was the former mayor of Detroit. Kwamie Kilpatrick, who was deeply involved in racketeering and bribery schemes I believe had about a 25 year prison sentence served seven years of it and the president community sentence So that was somebody who has let up a little early. But what really became interesting is who wasn't on this list like there was nobody named Trump. On this list. Whether it's the president or any of the family members. Nobody was on this list of parts. No Rudy Giuliani on this list of pardons Just for the record. No Joe exotic, who had the only flat black limo I've ever seen with a roll cage like he could take it on a tour of the safari jungle that was waiting for him outside prison because he was So sure he was going to be getting a pardon that he had a ride there ready to pick him up. He didn't get a partner. No pardons for Julian Assange on no pardons for Snowden at the end of the day here, what I am interested in is that Steve Bannon? One I think was pretty big. And politically not necessarily damaging, but charge included, because when you when you get a pardon, you kind of giving up your Fifth Amendment rights, and that means that you could be forced to talk on the stand and Not to incriminate yourself. But you might have more incriminating evidence, which could open the door to a number of other charges that will be brought up. But that said, what I found interesting is there is what they call the pocket Carden, which is a secret pardon, if you will mean the president signs off on it, but doesn't tell anybody about it. It's no different than your regular pardons. Usually you have the announcement of the partners 143 of them last night, But you can have a secret pardon that you hold onto maybe keeping your safe at mar a Lago or something, And you don't bring it out until there are charges brought up against anybody who may. Now have this march. There's still a chance that there could be. You know, a bunch of trump ones out there one for Giuliani on some level in this pocket. Pardon that we just don't know about yet. That might be. Why some of the bigger names we haven't seen anything yet, man. That is very interesting. We're talking to NBC news National correspondent Michael Bauer and Michael I had no idea. That a pocket pardon even existed..

"It's morning edition from NPR News. I'm Noel King, and I'm Steve Inskeep. Good morning When President Trump left the White House for the final time as president this morning, he stopped by to say a few words to reporters standing on the South Lawn. Those reporters included NPR's Franco Ordonez is on the line, Franco. Good morning. Good morning, Steve. What was the scene? Well, it was a summer scene, You know? I mean, this is the last day of the administration. I mean, you throughout the White House today, you know, there are people saying goodbyes taking pictures. There's a lot of tears. There's bare walls with no pictures on him. So when President Trump came out, there was a lot of anticipation about whether he would talk. And it was interesting that he didn't come out in ways that he you know, he often would. In the past, he actually stood a few steps back. Away from you know the press and answered questions and did not answer questions. Excuse me, and just thanked the press thanks supporters and said it was an honor to do this, but he did not take any questions about his legacy. He did not question take any questions about whether he had any regrets about the last four years, the last two years. On D left and, you know, made that very traditional walk, tumor Marine one and turned and waved at the press before leaving so that helicopter the green and white helicopter rises over Washington D. C. He gets along with first lady Melania Trump. They get a last look at the mall. They fly over the inauguration that the president and not break with tradition is skipping. He goes to joint base Andrews, a military base just outside of Washington, and he gave a sort of departure speech there to a couple 100. Family members and staffers and supporters gave us somewhat inflated view of his presidency and also said this We have worked hard. We've left it all is the athletes would say we've left it all in the field. We don't have to wait..

"They were all put in the same. Uh, same danger was in the house chamber where you have that photo of the plainclothes Capitol police officers with their guns drawn and the doors people are trying to invade into the chamber s I'm a little. I'm a little surprised that there wasn't more backlash on the house side in the manner that we saw on the Senate side. I'm joined by Josh Barrow, columnist for Business Insider who you can follow on Twitter at J. Barrow. The issue moving forward is that and I took a lot of calls on this yesterday and and heard the reaction from a lot of Trump supporters. We have a lot of Americans who are not living in reality, and it doesn't seem like they're going to stop consuming the kind of information that they've been consuming that has put them into this fantasy land. Any time soon. In fact, some of them are are going further. They're moving away from, say, a fox news to a newsmax. At this point, they're just looking for their point of view to continually be confirmed and with social media, it seems like they continue to go deeper and deeper down. In the rabbit hole. The stories that I was hearing about, you know, well, the judges. They didn't even hear our side. They didn't even look at the evidence. And then all we want. Is this commission to look at things not really understanding. What actually happened in court. What the affidavits actually said, as I'm trying to explain this to all of them. How do we break out of that? Because it seems to me like if you can't bring people back into reality, these problems they're just going to keep persisting. Well, I think the Bible strategy is to significant extent to deprive this of oxygen. I mean, as you described their, uh, you would hear these complaints that you know they never heard us on the merits. They tossed all the cases for standing and you know, that's not true. Many of the cases were tossed because there was no standing, which is to say that you were not a real party to a dispute who could get relief from the court. But there are other cases where that didn't happen. The court got to the merits and said, Basically, there are no merits either. Thing that you're alleging here is like a wild lion didn't happen or the thing you're alleging here did happen and a handful of cases even getting with regard to some of the late arriving absentee ballots in Pennsylvania Republicans had a decent legal argument about their theory there, but only involved a few 1000 votes. Even if their argument was right. It would not have mattered for the outcome of the election. S o. The courts have have looked at this and lots of different ways. They haven't won anywhere because it is not true that the election was stolen from the president. And I think is you're getting at their evidence doesn't move that you know, people the claim about we just want a commission. This is just a way of stalling and just a way of always being able to say that we you know that we don't have certainty here and Some Republican senators had very sharp remarks about that. Mitt Romney, pointing out that the nobody who doesn't believe that the selection was was free and fair. Is going to believe that because some congressional commission looked at it for a few days and said so on, So I think that that obviously is a disingenuous thing. It's not actually going to work, but Yeah, I am very skeptical of the president's ability to retain the kind of attention and loyalty that he has What he's not president anymore. We've already seen his influence waning significantly, and to some extent, I think that has caused certain ways in which he's lashed out over the last few weeks. Ah, reason, I think, for example, that he did not immediately signed the coronavirus relief. Anonymous spending bill was because you know, we had all these news cycles where Joe Biden was the main character, and all the coverage was of what Joe Biden administration is going to be, and the president needed to do this thing and appear to have blown up this deal to be the center of attention again on do you know, And obviously he did that again this week with sticking his supporters on the Capitol building. But His power to do. A lot of these things will just be greatly reduced when he's not president anymore. He can't make threats about what legislation is going to sign or not sign. You can't fire government officials Hey, can certainly give speeches and tell his supporters to do things, but he can't do them, You know, on the South Lawn of the White House. And so I think that I think that he his ability to be the organizing force of the conservative movement in America. It's just going to be reduced. I think it's going to compounded by the fact that Even if Twitter ever lets him back on the platform, which I think is an open question. His tweets just won't get as much attention when he is neither the president nor presidential candidate anymore and I think that he has significant legal jeopardy. There's quite possibly been enhanced by his actions over the last few weeks, not just federal, but also state legal jeopardy that could be tying up a lot of his time and attention. So I think that he has a specific force is going to just naturally fade to a significant extent. I don't think that's wishful thinking on my part. I think that that's just structural associated with not being president anymore on then you can. You can look back it. How the Republican how the conservative movement work during the Obama administration. Obviously, there was a lot of Was a lot of energy float through in terms of of electoral outcomes, and there was a certain amount. Obviously a conspiracy theorizing, including the birther conspiracy theories that the president the current president, was a promoter of Um, I think that Joe Biden is less of a lightning rod for that sort of stuff than either Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton was, and I think that's for a number of complicated reasons that we could go into..
