"So excited that you hear him dose of leadership. Welcome to the show. Thank you very much. Richard lied to be with. You should have some fun today. Yeah it's a true honor really your your expertise in your your the leadership junkie of all junkies. I think i love your book. The leader within uh. It's really good and it speaks resonates with me deeply. You're the first person that use these three terms. And i've been saying this a lot for the past few years about i thought the keys to unlocking transformational leadership. The compassionate side for sure is authenticity. Transparency vulnerability. I saw those three words a coin together. Your book a handful of times. And it just. I just love that so. You're the first person that i've seen. That's coin those three together. So i appreciate very nice you to say. Thank you very much really interesting experience. When i was working at the white house as appointments secretary to president ford and it was one of these times when i'd been appointed. And maybe you've had this experience to richard where you know right away that maybe you're not quite up to the job. You got a lot to learn. And wondering as fast as i could at the people i was hanging out with you know and i don't do this to namedrop to suggest you sort of how i was feeling at the time you know. I was there with don rumsfeld. Dick cheney colin powell. Bob gates brent scowcroft henry kissinger. That was the senior team. Now i was a part of that team. And so i and i was new to the white house. Twenty nine years old new politics and that's didn't feel like i was quite up to it quite good now. So we had a meeting of that group in the oval office one day with the president as they drifted out. I hung behind. Speak to present. I said mr president. I speak with these. Yes sit down. I said mr president not experienced enough. I'm not smart enough. I'm gonna make a mistake. It's going to embarrass you. And and here's my letter of resignation. And i put on his desk and he looked at it for a moment and he swivelled his chair to look out across the south lawn of the white house rose garden and he came back to me and he said you know warned. The very fact that you've said this to new to me makes you qualified to be here. The fact that i was vulnerable transparent and honest with him he knew he could trust me from that point in time as a result of that he trusted this whole farm kid with a lot of stuff that he showed it ever trusted to do but it worked out to be a really nice relationship. I learned early on that. Those three words are key to really deep relationships. I agree a hundred percent. And i love that story. I remember reading that book. You're right. That's where the first time i saw this phrase those three words together based on that story. What a great baptism by fire for for being around the greatness in being the witness as you open up the book to a standing there once nixon official he was going to resign. And you're able to witness ford kind of sit. There process. what was happening the gravity of what was happening and then go into action. I love that kind of inside baseball aspect of that. Of course. I remember that moment when it happened to but just to be there to witness that. It's just amazing when you're in your twenties late twenties but still you know just honored to be there to to witness the transfer of power and the ability of someone to grasp the significance of what was happening. You and then act upon that significant at that moment in time was really a profound leadership lessons for me. It is stayed with me my whole life to to gather in the data and the information the facts and then to have a plan to act on that and In the precise moment when you need to act yeah right is some of us could have said well. Let me step back from this for six months and figure this out that day he said i. I'd like to have the following six people here at seven. Am tomorrow morning for a transition team. Me and we walked into that room the next morning. He pulled from his jacket. Five pages of notes. He had a vision for what that transition was going to be. And that was a significant leadership. Former White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders talks about new memoir and Woodward book
"Sanders is a former White House press secretary. Newly released book is entitled speaking for myself. Faith Freedom. And the fine of our lives Since of the Trump White House. You can fell around Twitter at Sarah. How could be good? Marty said. Good to talk to you. Good morning. Thank you for having me. Yeah. Sarah, tell me what's the one thing you want is to know based on the book about this president that either of supporters and detractors do not know. Well, I think the biggest takeaway there have been a lot of books written about the president and about the Trump Administration and after 2.5 year, spending nearly every single day of those 2.5 years with the president, I wanted people to see the president that I got to know the Donald Trump that gets up every day fighting for our country and that really loves America and wants to see it succeed and be at its very best. And I tried to write stories and moments that highlight that that show a different side of this president, sometimes a softer side, the compassionate and generous side that I had the privilege of seeing every day. There. We had Jonathan Karl on that that long ago here on the farm. I think they believe he had written a book as well. And he talked glowingly about the president out spine of the relationship inside that White House press room, but Is this common with the president and in some of his detractors I think they're certainly always been tension that exists between the press corps in the White House staff and the president specifically, But it has ratcheted up in this administration, the amount of negative attacks and the tension between the press and the White House is higher than it's ever been. But there are certainly I think plenty of good moment to and there are good reporters out there that are trying hard to get good information to the American people. Unfortunately, they're usually overshadowed by the loud Most people in the room her looking to be more of the story, then to report the story and that became too common in this White House and in this presidency. Speaking with Sarah Huckabee Sanders, former White House pressing, sir, of course in the recent released a brand new book entitled Speaking for myself, Faith, Freedom in the Fight for Our Lives Inside the Trump White House, Sarah the Woodward book. I think one big question that a lot of the present supporters have is this. Why did he give him such Accessibility. I think that after Woodward's first book about the president that was so negative, the president was hopeful that if he injected his own voice into the story, he could change the narrative. Unfortunately, Bob Woodward's been writing books about presidents for a long time, and very few have ever been positive. So I'm not sure that he was going to be able to change anything. He has. Woodward has a formula. He sticks to it, and he sells books and has done very well in doing that. I don't think I would have advised the president to spend that much time with him. But one of the things I find refreshing about this president if he isn't afraid to take questions from reporters, he does that almost every single day whether it's in the Oval Office, the briefing room or the South Lawn of the White House, he is accessible in a way that we have never seen a president be in modern history. There was. This has been a lot of criticism of Bob Woodward if he believed he had information and the president on tape. Of things that the president claim one thing in public and a love thing behind closed doors. And it would impact health and well being of the United States and its citizens. He had an obligation to report that did he not. Absolutely. He would have had a moral obligation to do that. That's why I don't think he felt that anyone was actually in danger as if he was more focused on selling books. Look, Let's not forget the president started talking about the Corona virus in January In his state of the Union address, he took early actions banning travel from China at the same time that Democrats like Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi were attacking the president for taking that action. I think the president has really tried to do everything he could to keep the country calm, not collapse our economy completely while protecting lives and protecting livelihood. Having said that, did he lie? That's that's the sexism by his critics. But I don't think so. I think the president again he didn't want to create panic. I think we saw the similar rhetoric come from both from Joe Biden, he said. We don't want hysteria. We don't want people to panic. I don't think it is abnormal for the president of the United States for the leader of our country to want to keep our country calm and to keep people focused on defeating Disease and keep park economy from completely collapsing. I don't think that that is is wrong for the president to try Todo. The name of the book is speaking for myself. Faith freedom of the fight for our lives Inside the Trump. White House By Sarah Huckabee. Sanders. Sara. Thanks best look to the book to you as well, Thank you so much. I appreciate it.
Republican Voters Reflect On The Republican National Convention
"The Republican National Convention wrapped up on the South Lawn of the White House last night. That's where President Trump gave the final speech of the week He talked about law and order about American greatness and bash Joe Biden. We wanted to hear from some conservative voters on how the message is from the RNC landed this week from President Trump's speech last night. I feel like this was the line when he said that we do not put our trust In politicians or government. As our Saviour. We put our faith in Almighty God. Listen, Dick button, and I would second that when I saw the young man speaking about how he was cancelled. So were you talking about Nick Sandman, the young man who had Had the experience on the National Mall. So he got featured and talked about the idea of cancel culture. And it's something that is very important to me because my Children are more conservative. When they go out to college, or even at work. They will be. I don't know they will be bullied. I feel that there is an issue of freedom of speech. This is Dick Button ing. I agree, Chauncey. I really appreciated his speaking and for a young man. He really did a great job of stating. How he throat there were so many black Republicans Black Latino Asian, It was sort of a multi racial vision of the party that isn't necessarily in line with the data of the voting patterns. Can you talk about what you thought about what you heard from those speakers? Well, I think it's something that needed to be pointed out. Yes and tohave the black people coming forward and making that statement I thought was good. It was absolutely necessary for the convention to have people of different backgrounds and different status in life because It's the media and it's the message and that's what's causing all the unrest that saying Either you're here or you're there, and that's unfair. It's been unfair to the president from day one. You said something that this is the cause of unrest. This divisiveness What's your response to the viewers who say the cause of the unrest is police misconduct? Listen, this country is a big country with a lot of police departments and They probably are and there is justice. That's nothing Serve properly to say that it's systemic to state. It's systemic. To me, that's cowardice. My daughter is a nurse. And there are good nurses and there are bad nurses. There are good doctors and there are bad, doc and there are good policemen, and unfortunately what back we spent, and I'm sure we've all had that. Paul. Let me let you jump in here. Clearly, there are instances of excessive use of police force. Police officers are, in fact human beings and some human beings. They're bad things, whether by mistake or by malice, the insistence on framing The use of police force in racial terms has ruined any chance of an honest conversation about it. Right now, the president is dealing with a number of crises. There's the pandemic, There's thie. Massive job loss. And there are these protests over police misconduct. The's are all things that have happened under his watch. It's a little different from being new to the political scene and saying Here's how I'm going to improve things. If voters on the fence and watching all this why should they not think that the buck stops with him publicly here? I'll jump right in on that the president actually tried to get out in front of the Corona virus. The steps that he tried to take initially were blocked and he was chastised for them by the opposition party. As well as the riots that have been going on. The president has offered help to the cities and states. Not only has he been rejected, he had been ridiculed. He's been told to get out of there State He's been Billa vied. It sounds like what you guys were saying is the message to voters is None of this is his fault, and he tried and he needs another four years to improve the situation. I would go so far as to say it's sabotage.

"These radio 1000 Katie, Okay, the Republican National Convention wrapped up last night. Michael Bauer joining us because he was watching it, Michael, I didn't watch that much and what I did. He wasn't Ah, lot of surprises. But ah, lot of pageantry. Yeah, I would. I would have to say that the most surprising thing may have been the pageantry may have acted that you had 1500 people there at the White House on the South Lawn, and we know a number of people, including some health officials. Are very concerned because reports this morning say not many, if any, were tested for Corona virus before getting to the lawn. Not many war mask flat tonight while the president was speaking. On that was kind of concerning as well. But outside of that the eye was spectacularly shocked. The fireworks show was as good as it was, and that I was able to stay up for it if I thought for sure. After 70 minutes of President Trump's speaking at a fairly slow pace, I think somebody may have slowed down the Teleprompter guy, but a t end of the day there. I think I was feeling pretty tired. I was I was ready to go to bed, stayed up for the whole thing. And at the end of it, I mean, look, we know where the president has landed here and what I mean by that is we know that this is going to be about the law and order presidency. We know that that's what he is making the biggest push, saying that Democrats are unable to do it or unwilling to do it. And some of the cities and states that they are governing and that this is where he wants to be elected to be able to take care of it. Now I found out to be an interesting place for the president elect. I felt he could have done it on the economy, which certainly would have been a much bigger question between he and President Trump as to who you want tohave. In charge O Biden or president trump of your money going forward, But they decided to land on this portion of the law and order. And with that, I think it was. I mean, you're already starting to see it last night on social media, and you're seeing it again today Already, the Democrats are pushing hard on the well, look, you said the same thing Back in 2016. You were going to clean up the streets. You are going to stop the violence and Here. We are 3.5 years later, and that's not happening, And now you're asking for another four years to do something that you said would have been so easy and are continuing to say it's so easy to Dio don't know why you need that, so that's the direction they're going to go on this and I think that's going to lead us between that. Whatever happens in the upcoming black lives matter protest meeting outside of Kenosha or including Kenosha. On some level that's going to lead us up to the first presidential debate, which is going to happen is a little more than four weeks away from today on at least a this point. There's no plan to have one earlier. We know President Trump is pushing for earlier debate. He'd like to get one in before you have the first mail in ballots. He nailed in so many ways. What he has done what he's going to do what Biden and Democrats are what they are what he thinks of America. I mean, he was on it, and I thought it was a great speech. 70 minutes showed that Biden can't hang Biden with what an eight minute speech Tammany Whatever was super short trumps. He had a lot that he accomplished and my wife couldn't she like I forgot he remained. He did all of these things. And that that's that's a big, that's a big thing. He has a lot of success, and he should be able to talk about that success. A lot of it. He started out in a great way. You know it, But this, he's saying we need to fight back because we're talking about this. The mobs were going after us. Ryan, can you play number nine really quick. I thought there was a lot of good things, the president said, and we have a lot to play from the president. Other people last night as well, but we're going to start really quick with number nine. President last night on the South Lawn of the White House. These Americans are exhausted. Trying to keep up with the latest list of approved words and phrases. And the ever more restrictive Political decrees. Many things have a different name now. And the rules are constantly changing. The goal of cancel culture is to make decent Americans live in fear of being fired. Expelled, shamed, humiliated and driven from society as we know it. The far left wants to coerce you into saying what you know to be false and scare you out of saying What you know to be true. Bury said. "Yeah, I don't know if he was walking home or just walking out to get to where he was trying to get to in order to get home. We have a story on our website for a few minutes about this, but shows from the video. Of him being escorted by decent police to a crowd of protesters. Yeah, he walked pretty far. I mean, if he was walking to his car, he had a bad mark in space. It's not easy to park around the White House. I will tell you that, especially in a week like this, where there's just been a lot more closures around the White House. You know, security barriers have gone up. So pushing out the perimeter even further. You gotta walk a ways to get out to your car. Well, I guess that was quite a few demonstrators out there, too. So they were all right so in the South Lawn, and that's where they get the main event was held last night, the president laid out sort of an optimistic view of the future. Which I guess going back to the Democratic that last week's convention There's certainly a contrast between the two You know, it wasn't really like a campaign rally speech, the one that we're used to it. President Trump spoke for a long time 70 minutes, which makes it the second longest acceptance speech. But there was very little improvisation. He really stayed on that script, and that's not something he does. When he's out in front of supporters were kind of expecting that, you know, he's been itching to get in front of a large crowd for a long time. And he had it last thing on the South won more than 1500. People there. But for the most part, you know, he went through a long laundry list of what he says, are his accomplishments of the past 3.5 years, and only in the final minutes or so, did you go into a list of what he would do if given a second term and much of it was pledging to continue what he's been doing that long list of what he's done since he took office, You know, I think he's still At length about the Corona virus pandemic more than we've heard all week at the Republican convention, certainly defended his handling of the pandemic. But this is an issue where the president's poll numbers were not great 9% our latest polls and disapprove of how he's handling it. But he did criticize Joe Biden called for more shutdown something by then said in our interview with him last week. But if the scientists said it, he would do it. But president last night said That's not a solution to the virus, but rather a surrender well. He also says he believes will have AH, vaccine by the end of the year. And that's pretty optimistic. I mean, most of said spring of the earliest, but we'll see what happens. Yeah, I mean, maybe a headline on the vaccine by the end of year, certainly that you know they're feeling good about it, but I think every public house expert and a lot of these companies are saying that's really quick time land exactly ready for distribution by the end of this year. How do you get an acceptance speech without a gigantic audience there? What's that going to look like? Where isn't even gonna happen? But we got some news reporting overnight, suggesting That President Trump may, according to The Washington Post, actually do his nomination acceptance speech on the south, One of the White House. On the South Lawn is a nice, gigantic staging area to hold an event. It's outdoors, So there's that plus a cz well, not as easy to transmit the virus outside and an open air nationally, and there is some consideration, reportedly, according to a quote Republican familiar with the discussion. This is to the Washington Post attributed to, uh, that may be. The president will do this on the South Lawn. Now there's a bunch of question marks that come with this Beverly, including You Never know what August weather is going to be like in Washington, D C on the South Lawn. You may be subject to some crazy heat you maybe get a thunderstorm. This might be a tough one to actually schedule put a specific date on the calendar for Logistically. I'm not sure if it's the smart move. I've noticed that the president's made a decision or his team has made the decision for him to do some interviews out Spy the White House As of late. He had the Chris Wallace interview with Fox News. He was interviewed by Dave Portnoy bar Stool Sports, and I saw him sweating through those interviews, and I was thinking It's never a good look, even though we all get it. DCP is hot and humid. Why do the interviews outside? So I think logistically, this could be optically very bad for the president if it's too hot, and if the weather doesn't cooperate, which is highly likely. In the month of August. I'm so glad you're here because I hadn't even contemplated the sweating aspect of this. Like you stand there. Sweating. Yeah, like drenched with sweat. Trying to give an acceptance speech doesn't make you a calm, cool and collected the arrangement. But of course, you know, the Washington Post gets into you know, this may be ah bit. This may run afoul of ethics norms to have a president hold a political event. At the White House. Now you can't have it both ways. You can't simultaneously say he's not allowed to hold a political event at all for fear of the transmission of the virus, and then come along and say, And he better not say anything political at the White House. What you told him? That's the only place he was allowed to stay. Okay, So if he goes out to the South Lawn, and does this are we really going to gripe? He mentioned his political future. When let's let's figure out how many other presidents have talked about politics from the White House, or at least say from the seat of power. That would be 44. 44 of them did.

And everybody was coming on his caravan that went away, and it definitely didn't help in the midterms. So adams. He wants to make it seem like he's giving in by saying still slack to saying look on giving it to the Democrats because they don't necessarily want. They don't wanna concrete while they just want steel slapped. It seems like they like steel better as he's on the south lawn yesterday afternoon work is long as a government shutdown. The majority of American people blame him for the shutdown. He's the one acting like spoiled child, so we can go to slats fence, whatever he wants to call it as long as the government is shutdown. He's gonna pay a price for it. But I hadn't seen here. So I think the president and his team were trying to back into a win because guess what? There are ready still slats on their border. There is already a fence on parts of the border wall on parts of the border and surveillance on parts of the border. The border is protected and the big thing is propounded is not true. Which is that there's some kind of Hooper in border on the south there in what's happening is that there is some kind of refurbishment of the seal slashing some places, you could clam that's already happening. But I think he's trying to get himself to something that's already there. So he can. Call it a wall and walk away and say one I I want to bring in democratic congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton of c congressman thanks so much for joining us this evening very much. Appreciate it. I I wanna get your reaction to the president announcing that he's going to be giving an address from the Oval Office tomorrow evening at nine pm. What do you want to hear from the president tomorrow night? I let my indicate what the significance of this address is if you look at the polls, the president is losing he's going to give the address because he's trying to get the American people where they are not now one way to understand this is to see the wall crumbling around him, for example, maybe not enough people care about section eight housing where people get a third of their housing from the federal government or even food stamps, but the president has already caved on IRS funding. And guess what? He can't you can't pick and choose we'll give you back your IRA. S funding, but we won't do your housing funding. That's what he's trying to do. Now that money would have to come out of the general fund, the wool with our s funding may be the biggest crack yet in the wall. We've got stop talking about the wall as if that is some kind of of metaphor. Let's look at what. In fact, we're talking about this. The sides are nowhere near for apart..
