"I'm gonna get emotional here. My son Trevor, who's been through so much, he was the one in the auto accident. He's a 5th grade teacher. He teaches special Ed to 5th grade kids at a great charter school in Texas. Very, very unique calling and he feels and that goes back to our pasture for many years ago, pastor John mckellar at white's chapel Methodist Church in south Lake Texas, years ago, suggested to Trevor that he should be a teacher as Trevor began that path for kids who have special needs. And that's what Trevor does. And today, again, I'm going to get emotional. He sent me a video clip with a couple of his young charges, his young students wishing mister Gallagher, a happy birthday. And that came after a little video clip of Trevor and my granddaughter, lily, sending pop ups, happy birthday wishes. If you'd

Federal Investigators Launch Civil Rights Probe Into Southlake, Texas Schools

"I want to pivot here to a story that is, it's really, it's a massive story. It's out of southlake, Texas, federal investigators, this per NBC News launched civil rights probe into southlake, Texas schools. Now you will remember that south Lake became one of the hotbeds in this CRT school board battle that has been raging across the country with concerned parents. Now yesterday Charlie did an amazing job covering memo gate as we are thus dubbing it. Where it is now become clear that despite Merrick Garland's claims that there was no FBI, you know, surveilling of parents, that is indeed the case, a whistleblower has come forth. Some of our favorite representatives like Jim Jordan out of Ohio have been leading on this issue, actually, we have Jim Jordan's going to be joining the show here soon for a long form discussion here shortly. It's also got a great book out, recommend everybody checking it out. So Jim Jordan's been out front on memo gate. Now, we find out that there's something brewing. And I don't love the direction. There's two simultaneous concurrent streams that are running counter to what we all thought we learned after Virginia. After even New Jersey was too close to call an election night. After Republicans swept races all across the country. Even in Seattle. What were the messages? That we thought we learned? Well, that CRT is dumb, and that parents don't like it, and that it's a losing issue for Democrats. And that Republicans get rewarded when they fight things like CRT. When they don't take a neutral stance in the public square, but fight it with everything they've got and they say, listen, I'm going to exercise state power and not cop out on some, you know, we believe in small government, which we do, but these are not mutually exclusive things. The government as constituted in the United States of America is designed fundamentally to protect the rights of its citizens. And to predict the right to protect the rights of parents. And what conservatives too often do is they hide behind that as a excuse to do nothing

"Great question kennedy single owner by multiple shares. I was thinking this myself. Yup it's pretty common. Actually so our average home. I would say has five to six owners. We allow maximum of eight but several owners will purchase a quarter or in some cases. We've seen even three eighths. We wouldn't allow somebody to purchase more than fifty percent if somebody wants to purchase more than fifty percent. We would recommend you just by the whole home for sure by the whole home and somebody says i can't rent out my property not buying it. Sorry so that's interesting. You're probably not the the person for this market because what the people in this group are saying. See i can answer this for you. I think is You don't want to have random strangers destroying the whole ryan. You run an airbnb. Which i did for a little while on a property owned while we move to another property somebody threw a party there and did eight thousand dollars worth of damage to file a claim with airbnb. They had to charge a persico whole big controversy and we wound up getting paid eventually but it was like a massive headache. People don't want that nonsense in this class of owners. And if you want that nonsense you really Should i think go for this level of home when he comes up. Okay i would. I think airbnb point is an important one because this is this is kind of like almost the anti airbnb like this. Yeah this is for owners and families who are not just there for the weekend like these are people who are spending five hundred thousand to a million dollars that are owned the property. They're committed to the community. Like i'll give you an example just to highlight the difference. We recently. Unfortunately you're probably aware this you're in the bay area right just. Yeah yeah so. You're probably aware the south lake tahoe. Fires that just have right terrible and think about imagine. If you're a renter like an airbnb renter that it stated in airbnb a couple of years. Ago and south lake tahoe. Do you think you would be inclined to go help with what was happening. You know with the fire situation. Probably not right like no skin in the game. No ties the community. In picasso's case we saw this we found a charity. That was helping with the 'cause we wrote a check as a company to support the cause. And then we all the owners that we serve in the region and encourage them told them that we were doing this encourage them to strike check as well and we had something like i don't. I don't know what the total number was fiber. Ten owners stepped up and wrote a check to support this local costs like the families. Who are buying these houses. These are these are not frat parties. You know these are like short families with kids that are interested in being part of the community interested in meeting their neighbors and and they love the town that they're buying ended it's a very different mindset when somebody is owner was significant skin in the game when compared to a transient renter. That has no skin in the game and is just there for the weekend. Yeah you know it's interesting. I'm thinking about buying a tahoe place. And i see you have five places up there now. Now you've already bought these places. You have that holding period so if i were to buy one of these this week like right now i'm looking at one. It's like six hundred forty five dimes. I afford that. If i bought into this could i be using it like two weeks. How long assuming like the money. When can i get keys. If it's available you could be using it this weekend. We close and i may weaken close. And you know fifteen minutes like the process. Is that easy..

"Been more favourable on containment but especially in south lake. Tahoe there is still on holding those containment lines. they're also still seeing some pretty meaningful spotting. Which is when members are flying and creating fires off the line and they're worried you know. This is all about the weather. So they're hoping that the weather stays favorable going into this week. Yeah they don't want higher temperatures but what does this mean for. Some residents who are returning we see tweets telling them to make sure you have fuel groceries. Your medicine what. What's the concern there. That's right south. Lake tahoe residents started coming back yesterday. They lifted the man a mandatory evacuation. But it's still. They're still hazard smoke. Smoke blanketing the tahoe region. If anybody's been the lake tahoe basin in it's just there's they've been dealing with bad smoke from more than a month now from both the dixie fire and the kaldor fire. There is still active fire in that area. Some of the hospitals are still closed and again these stores have been closed. They've been evacuated for a week now so there may not have supplies. They may not have food. They may not have gas at the gas station. So people are are if you're they're recommending that if you're in a safe place now with the air is clean you may just wanna stay there a little longer. Yeah we're reading one report. The barton hospital hasn't reopened. Its emergency room so you could just break your ankle and not having any are to go to just a a caution there. How are firefighters. Talk about labor day labor away. What are they doing to contain these fires. So few things one is. They are trying to hold the lines that they've created and then to specifically in lake tahoe. They're focusing on these. These difficult areas and robin are this eight thousand feet elevation. In some cases alpine lakes a lotta granite a lot of rough terrain. It's really difficult to hold these lines. And you know across the state of california. They've got fourteen thousand firefighters working. They're throwing everything they can. At the dixie fire and the kaldor fire i w- been watching the morning update every morning. And you know they're just going around saying here's where we're having some spotting. Here's where we're concerned. Here's where we're seeing some some some some you know even though we favorable weather some concerns about active fire especially in dixie fire. It grew nearly fifteen thousand acres just last night. They're seeing some some some concerning developments with behavior with that fire on the southeastern edge. So this is something that i think the mantras been. Don't turn your back on this. Keep focused and they've been able to achieve some containment but they're still worried about some fire behavior. And we're reading the kaldor dixie fires of the first wildfires on record to cross the sierra nevada mountain range why an put people that must have nerves on edge. Yeah i mean that is pretty remarkable that the just in the past month and a half in california history. We've seen these. Two fires crest the summit of the sierra nevada and what that means really is you know it's going up the western facing side and then somehow you know the spotting of of these embers which in some cases are thrown half a mile a mile are making it over and cresting the summit and then in the kaldor fire was heading into the tahoe basin. There's fire in the basin now inching towards the lake. This is.

It's not going well over the last several days the president has shot nothing. He's clearly getting frustrated. Being confined to this box hiding daily check ins by reporters aren't helping so much for my reputation as a great hunter. I wish we didn't have to stay in this damnable bear blind. I'd like to be out there with collier. I know colonel but the other members of the party artists surprise you. They find it more gentlemanly for the bears to come to them since arriving. He's asked that. No one referred to him as mr president. You and the local started calling him colonel. After his time with the rough riders in the spanish american war he sits back grumbles. Heirs are not rare little sunflower. And he's right. This part of the little sunflower river is well populated with bears. And you hired holt. Collier the best bear tractor in the country to help you. He's killed over sixteen hundred them to date and you know he's finding them. The problem is chasing them into the president's line of sight. It's monstrous that famous smile explodes across roosevelt's face. Holly leaps onto his horse and you lead the way but it's quiet unusually quiet. Are you certain it was this way. That's when collier appears motions for you to follow him as you get closer. You see one of the most depressing sites of life. The black bear is tied to a tree unconscious. Torn and bitten by dogs knocked out by the body of colliers gone. It lies barely breathing. It's two hundred thirty pounds at most nowhere near as big as you thought. In the heat of the moment you try to hide your disappointment in motion for the president to shoot but when the president sees the bear. His smile receipts his gun. Slumps colonel. Who make a nice addition to your collection roosevelt. Jeff shakes his head. There's no sport in this. He's put it out of its misery. He turns his back to feed it. Heads back toward the camp. You suddenly understand. He is angry because he can't return with a nice trophy. He is upset because he respects the beasts he kills. It bothers him to see any animal humbled. So unfairly roosevelt's hunting trip continued for another three days but the story spread across the country before he stepped out of the mississippi missed. Newspapers applauded the president.

A suburban cincinnati woman on monday won a court order for a hospital to treat her husband's cova nineteen with ivermectin an anti parasitic treatment commonly used for livestock. They did this despite a court. Ruling on friday. Overriding the governor. Saying that school districts can indeed enforce temporary masked mandates to help stop the spread of covert. "The nation about afghanistan this afternoon. Hurricane ida has finally moved away from louisiana but the rescue and recovery efforts are just beginning rescuers in boats helicopters and high water. Trucks brought hundreds of tracked people to safety yesterday but many roads are still flooded or blocked by trees and power lines and cell phone services out in a lot of places so there are quite a few people still missing officials say they know at least three people died in the storm and they expect the death toll will rise considerably in the coming days. Utility repair crews also rushed into help in the wake of the storm. More than a million homes and businesses in louisiana and mississippi including all of new orleans are still without power this morning and the damage was so bad officials say it could be weeks before the power grid is repaired. Hundreds of thousands of people are also going without clean water. All that sat officials say it could have been worse. The new levies and barriers built after hurricane katrina sixteen years ago worked as they were supposed to and new pump systems are working to get water out of neighborhoods faster. Remember when item made landfall in southeastern louisiana sunday. It was a powerful category four hurricane. Now i'd has been downgraded to a tropical depression and it's now moving northeast. Slowly across several states forecasters say the storm will finally blow back out to sea over new england on friday. Another massive wildfire is threatening a popular tourist area on the california nevada border. Everyone in the city of south lake tahoe and some surrounding areas are under evacuation orders. Now because of the kaldor fire in other words tens of thousands of people have had to leave their homes resorts and other businesses have shut down and hospitals and jails have been emptied so far. It's also destroyed hundreds of homes since it started earlier this month. A few thousand firefighters are battling the flames along with hundreds of army soldiers. But as early this morning they've only been able to contain fourteen percent of the fire. "South Lake Tahoe. We have 62 out Grove and 61 in Sacramento. Time to check the markets. Let's head over to Cap trust and John Lockwood John. Hey, Good morning. Well, we've got markets lower this morning despite some good economic news. And corporate earnings continue to roll in beating expectations. But we have to remember the markets always looking forward. You know, 6 12 18 months out, and so, you know. Six months ago or beginning of the year. We expected strong corporate earnings and you know that fueled the stock market higher. But now that those earnings are coming to fruition, the market's looking at what's ahead. And so we've got, you know some issues with inflation. There's concerns about the labor market and so causing a little bit of a pause here in terms of the continual rise that we've seen in the market weekly jobless claims lower reaching a new pandemic low they totaled 360. 1000 new claims last week and unemployment Well, the folks who are collecting unemployment fell to 14 million. That's about 50% of what we saw one year ago, and Governor Gavin Newsom extended the eviction moratorium and specifically, the rent relief program was extended and change slightly. So what This means is that tenants and landlords that will be able to file for some relief for their rent and that goes back to April of last year, and it also is forward looking and the change now is that 100% of rent can be paid rather than 80% under the bill last time. Looking at the real time numbers here on the market. The Dow down six points. 9 34,026 S and P also lowered down 11 43 63. The NASDAQ is way in markets the most down about 63 points, or 4/10 of 1% at 5 14,081. Gold off by a dollar. 18 23 announced oil down about 30 cents 70 to 82 a barrel The 10 year bond yield 1.33% And that's John Lockwood. Thank you, John. Okay, so everyone's talking about inflation. This morning. You hear it on the national news. We've been talking about it throughout this morning on the Cape became morning news, but not everyone is concerned about it. Speaking on CNN Senator Bernie Sanders says the sweeping $3.5 trillion infrastructure deal will help address inflation. For those who are feeling pain in their wallets. Well, I am concerned about inflation, among many other things. As I think you know this bill. This 3.5 trillion. And then there's another 600 billion in a so called bipartisan infrastructure bill will pay for itself will be paid for in a variety of ways, but significantly by higher taxes. On the wealthy and large corporations so that should not add to the inflation concerns. But we should we should also be concerned about is that real inflation accounted for wages for many, many workers in this country has not gone up. Almost 50 years, people are paying much more than they can afford for childcare for college for health care, and this legislation begins to address those concerns. Okay, So Bernie Sanders says this. The sweeping 3.5 trillion other infrastructure jail is going to fix everything economists have said. Okay, this is transitory, the inflation that we're seeing. But the prices for goods and services have been rising at a historic rate and CEOs are very concerned about it. They're saying, Look, we're the one setting prices on what the businesses are selling. And and they have direct exposure to inflationary pricing. So they are very concerned about it. So you do have you know folks like Jamie Diamond from JPMorgan Chase? Very concerned about it. And he thinks it's going to be worse than what the Fed thinks. And he doesn't think it's temporary. Just varying perspectives on this. You're hearing it from all parts right and no one I think really has a crystal ball and knows what's going to happen exactly. But it's important to hear these different perspectives because there are a lot of them and a lot of smart people are saying a lot of different things. For sure. Alright, coming up. We'll talk about a prediction for gridlock here in the Sacramento area. It doesn't mean people are going to be getting back to work in school that will top our newscast coming up in a couple minutes. The news. You can trust things that I need to know everything about the KFBK Afternoon.
