"And so an example of that is that I think is really powerful is the constitution down. There was a Dow that formed to try to buy a physical copy of the U.S. Constitution that came to auction at Sotheby's. It actually failed to place the winning bid. It was outbid. But the members of the Dao, some of them withdrew and got their money back, and some of them kept their crypto in the Dow, and there was actually continued value and continued trading to the tokens for the Dow because there was monetary value ascribed to the fact that that community had formed there. And why is that the case? It's because it's powerful to assemble groups of people that would promote and collaborate on these various projects, and that itself has value, and then simply the kind of CRM capabilities here to continually re target the wallet holders within an existing community with new opportunities with messages with ways to join new kinds of groups, even that group of people living on that Discord server, talking to each other, that thing has value. And web three has the ability to capture that value in a token and make it fungible. Make it exchangeable for other types of value in crypto context. Got it. So that that Dow, the constitution Dao, it was working to buy a constitution from Sotheby's, but it wasn't directly associated with Sotheby's. It wasn't operated by Sotheby's. The Dow token that you mentioned was not a Sotheby's token, right? The people took it. Yeah, no, the Dow was a Sotheby's bitter. It was not Sotheby's. So it was bidding on an item at auction outside the bus. Got it. But it's interesting that Sotheby's is still interacting with a web three community, right? This community is something that could replicate itself in different formats and interact with companies that maybe haven't necessarily gotten into that web 2.5 or web three space yet. There's implications for how these communities can apply themselves to non web three based companies in a way. That's the fascinating thing here for me is that obviously Sotheby's was one of the frontrunners leading the way into the web three market with NFTs..

Has the Art Market Roared Back to Life?
"Scott before we start talking about the individual lots. Let's talk about formats christie's has gone with a new style of category is twentieth and twenty first century. Sales be stuck with the old traditional categories. How important is this. Does it make much difference. Well thing is the christie's when they announced this is clearly stated in the publicity a new era in the art world But thinking back in two thousand and fifteen. We had a new era in the world when they had their first twenty twentieth and twenty first century. We're looking forward to tomorrow. And that back then in two thousand and fifteen made seven hundred and six million so actually we are in a very different era. they all will but it's different at a very different way. Let's put it that way. Of course we're now in a hybrid sale situation and it was interesting. The contrast or lack of contrast in some sense between christie's and sotheby's christie's have this hybrid formats with the very very swish auction room with lots and lots of screens with experts from all over the world but christie's for all the money they got to throw this. The technology is still incredibly. Clunky it's a bit like a game show with just a technical problem throughout and takes five or six minutes at times. The whole things were froze. there was a break of three or four minutes where you wonder whether your computer broken down whether there was something of the problem with the sale and it is quite remarkable given the huge amounts of money that are available the company that they can't sort out the slick technology for this this sale this matter sell an. I'm not alone in this criticism. It still feels very stiffen clunky. I'm sure they can sort it out. But compared to subsidies which is false slicker in terms of its technology and also. A lesser van gogh picasso or like someone last week. You own your own people digital montage. Oh you've never heard of people that's okay. He's not one of those guys. They teach art history class. Which makes it all the more remarkable one of his electronic art pieces just sold at auction at christie's for nearly seventy million dollars even though it only exists in pixels is the third highest price ever commanded by a living artist. According to the new york times people is a digital artist from south carolina. Whose given name. Is mike thirteen years. He's created a drawing every day. This was also the first time christie's sold a piece of digital only artwork. It was purchased with the cryptocurrency ether. Another first for christie's something tells me you won't be the last either. So you're probably wondering why in the world someone would pay seventy million dollars for a pack a reproducible. A rare Botticelli portrait fetches $80 million in Sotheby's auction
"About cheddi portrait. This week smashed the auction record for the nasal artist. Portrait of a young man with a roundell hammered at eighty million dollars. Sotheby's in new york on ninety two point one million with fees. The previous record for was relatively low. Ten point four billion dollars set in two thousand. Thirteen by the so-called rockefeller madonna portrayed. A young man had lost come to auction in one thousand nine hundred eighty two and its attribution to put. A chill was doubted by everett. Fall by then. The director of new york's frick collection. Who declared to be by francesco. Totti cini a follow of botticelli for he apparently later changed his mind and now the work is widely agreed to be a botticelli but while that work the price it was expected to a small but luminous rembrandt painting abraham and the angels from sixteen forty six which had estimate of twenty to thirty million dollars was withdrawn at the last minute. As we recorded the podcast sotheby's not yet given an explanation for its withdrawal. I spoke to scott rayburn a contributor to the newspaper and the new york times immediately after the sale. About whether it's a risk to bring these works wash now amid the pandemic and what it tells us about the market for your masters in general scott before we talk about the particular. Lots came sotheby's today. I wanted to ask you about the old master market in general and obviously the fact that he are in the middle of a pandemic and we're in an economic crisis. Does it make sense to bring these kind of lots to watch it this time. Well this is how the b.'s. new york gets the big master cell. Everyone wants to consigned to this sale. This is the moment The markets dealers on people. I speak to in that world. Say new york is where everyone wants to sell their overly only one sale year evening sale and that was the time to sell uncles. The pandemic been going on for nearly a year now in terms of restrictions on auctions sotheby's created incredibly slick format for this hybrid livestream sale It seems to be working. Well the thing about losses of courses. This isn't contemporary art. It's an unfashionable collecting field and it was always going to be a real test for that collecting field in the current environment. That's the interesting thing is because of course the leonardo so and of course the leonardo salvator mundi was very very unusual. So we have to caveat everything with that sure but christie's when they sold that put that into the contemporary sale. Luckily and i wondered how you feel about whether old master lots might do better in more mixed fields versus the traditional roadmaster sale. And who dictates that but with the salvator mundi. My understanding was that it was just a brainwave by the genius auction air Loic gouzer Thinking well let's put it in a contemporary sale. It's such a strange object If it's an old master sale than people just pick it to bits and criticize it in a contemporary sale be would just be looking at the image. And of course christie's marketing machine went into absolute overdrive and they marked it absolutely brilliantly Using the typeface of the dan brown novel to promote it You know they pulled out every stop and it worked sensationally. Well whether you the extent to which you can do again is is really questionable. Because that is as you point out in uttar outlaw. They self-talk mundi in in every respect. But what was interesting about. The marketing of this sale at celebici's is once again. The sophistication of the marketing with every lot. The work was shown online hanging on a white wool in a contemporary style. Interior where you'd expect a damien hirst to hang on then there would be to further reassure the contemporary minded by will the asian bah. There was a very attractive. Cooley dressed asian girl standing next to the painting in a contemporary interior. I that all walking the hilarious thing about this marketing ploys that in both cases they weren't actually looking at the picture they were just standing there. It was clearly if he's of marketing to reassure contemporary art buys but it was very smart and slick and clever and they and they're pulling out the stuff that incredibly inventive about it

"Broker at Sotheby's international realty great post okay I appreciate you staying with us and if you came from the first hour of the show or you're joining us for the second hour broadcast of all things real estate as we talked about last hour we continue to honor the more than one hundred seventeen thousand souls who have lost their lives to corona virus and always are thinking about and thanking the first responders other doing all they can in our lives and we're also giving a little bit of thought to finding solutions to the race relation challenges in our nation as I said last hour in the category of something not well known but perhaps be more relevant than ever today is the seventy first anniversary of the signature of president Harry Truman on a law that celebrates our nation's flag it actually is so important to us because it speaks to the issues associated with what the red white blue stars and stripes stands for and that is that as Truman said it is our custom to observe June fourteenth each year with ceremonies designed not only to commemorate the birth of our flag but also to rededicate ourselves to the ideals for which it stands he further said that this beloved emblem which flies above all of our people no matter the creed or race signalized is our respect for human rights and the protection such rights are afforded under our form of government so given all that our nation is going through of late perhaps the ideals of what our flag stands for according to president Truman makes even more sense than ever to be fully realized and remembered and that's what we're gonna be talking about in our second hour today as well this is right pose for Sotheby's international realty welcoming you to the fourteenth at a series of broadcasts that offer reflections from real estate business and community leaders as we confront all the elements of living with corona virus and actually face a number of other issues requiring our attention I have a very special guest joining me for the entire second hour of the show master graduate builder graduate master builder actually is the way it should be said Mr Kevin Skelly of K. M. Skelly incorporated Kevin welcome the shell he thanks what ray it's great to be here of Kevin was out riding his bike this warning actually did twenty seven miles I believe so he's invigorated to if not exhausted and ready to actually serve in our program today Kevin up as we discussed in the first hour of the show it's somewhat ironic that the principles as I said a moment ago of human rights and their protections are actually mark today the other celebration of flag day as we continue to address racial injustice in our nation so as I've asked my other guests I would suspect that you agree that taking a moment to reflect on what our nation's flag means to us might help us to better understand the issues in front of us is that true yeah and it's it's it's a tricky deal right now we've got a lot of things challenging us as a nation and as a society can you speak about it one thing I like about you raise you you always believe in historical things in your property in your program so it's really it because most people don't spend the time thinking about history or flag day if you look at your calendar it's a little teeny font and it usually in a neutral colors that didn't really see it so it's good to bring that to the forefront because in spite of all the problems that we have as a nation and still want to give the best country to be in so we're grateful for that what we are and thank you for that recognition of weaving history in the show we always try to do it and and especially when I have you on the program because you are a student of history and understand the significance of things like Truman state at about what the stand the flag stands for and how it is so incredibly apt for the challenges that we're facing today in dealing with the racial injustice you know it's been about three months Kevin that we've been dealing with coronavirus and I suspect that you in your home construction team are still pursuing all the social distancing practices to make the work environment safe isn't that the case yeah and even more so I think when when we spoke on a few months ago when I was on the show and my framing crew we're kind of like not really paying attention to the stuff that we had posters up on the building you know under construction sites and they're just in it we don't need this but you know it's not a real thing just the other day on Friday they they were doing a demolition forming a retrofit and by it he had talked him about masks and I have been have extras to they all wear masks and then started to pay attention but it's also interesting that the city of Santa Fe adopted the city council adopted the mandatory man's and and I think that's a great idea but I look back to the two thousand one when they first enacted the the ban against talking on cell phones and then then in eight they tried to repeal that but failed but you know you drive down the street to tend to pay it no effect it's like like a encounter with bumper cars you know people are just swerving all over the place because they're on their cellphones and I just hope that they take this mandatory mask wearing more seriously well I agree with you and if you look across the country not every jurisdiction has been is thoughtful about mandating that a Santa Fe has been I'm constantly struck by a number of people that I see that are in a downtown situation not in Santa Fe but in other towns and though workers within the shops that are open are all wearing masks that people unless they've got it tucked in their pocket or not seemingly walking in with that consideration now as we both know a lot of businesses Kevin are not allowing people to come in unless they actually have a mask and they post that sign right out in front so I I think this is the education process of course we all are exhausted by what coronavirus is done with the weather being nice it's a natural inclination to perhaps be a little more lax about it but I think you probably agree with what the medical professionals are saying that we all need to be very cognisant that we could be inviting it back up rather quickly is and that's true yeah and you know we're fortunate in in Santa Fe county I think our numbers are like one seventy one and three but we're you know we're experiencing spikes in our neighbors or neighboring states and in that's that's really serious consumed by all they'll come visit Santa Fe and we've got to be regret more diligent than ever as far as social distancing and wearing masks and hand sanitizer and you know we can't we can't let up you cannot wish this virus away still sort of related to what you just said and I know I ask this of you last month when you're on the show but I think it's worth repeating as a certified green professional and graduate master builder what are your views on what the home construction industry will continue to need to do if we pass out of the current virus situation later this year or the beginning of next year what protocol should they do you think would you recommend that they actually including yourself Purcell.

And then I looked every time he said the word camera, and I finally found the the shy is twenty. Hopefully. The camera brand out of batteries fell apart or something something like that. But it's still I don't think it's the run one from the actual race. I mean, the the cameras at the race. Oh, yeah. This this is the only one that we Finally I this from two thousand eleven Laguna Seca, and and you're talking about your driving behind the the three. Yeah. Shit on his point. But I literally Google the very first thing. I just watched the clip was was this video. Pointed we. No it is. 'cause I just I type in just different key words, and you didn't was the first video that I got. Yeah. But you in Manila that just say we'll nail that. All right, man. Why would call them? Good, man. But you're right for this by five fifty nine six minutes into it. Do it cover. You guys all spread out? They won't cover you run it alone. But it'd be getting a pack and you go for it a little bit. They'll do it. So they all stay pack, and I decided to catch up to the Pac either way less was ready to head back to LA with no tack. Less weren't. Can we get this tactic straighten out? He said definitely by Monday. When we get back to. Good. Is it gonna do me that I can't? And again, you can listen to it. I get down into first gear, by the way here. Okay. I. Outside of the car. Good-looking car. It is. The same thing again. To why you were using second through just pick one of them by John Morton said don't bypass there. Well, there it is. Well, you can probably move it further along than that. There's a camera drop out on that thing is that what happens. This was our car cast footage on the speed channel in the car show footage. That's where we pick more because they had then somewhere. I it's weird because I have the disc of the of the race as taken from the cameras that were there. Yeah. The speed channel.
