Antone brings heat in push for Cincinnati Reds' rotation
"Reds played tonight and three hours against the kansas city. Royals perhaps not with these same amount of excitement as the night before her. Green and nikola delo pitched tj anton in relief last night against the dodgers and again that ended with a four four tie. I will admit to you. I get the purpose behind the rule that a team on defense can roll the inning over and basically ended prematurely as a fan. That's not much fun. Tony larussa has said as much. Tony larussa and i are on the same page about anything. That's saying something but above and beyond the outcome of the game which obviously doesn't matter. Tj antone pitch last night and he was phenomenal two innings. His fastball was ninety. Seven ninety eight ninety nine killer slider filthy curve five strikeouts two innings gave up. Just a hit. This is a guy who was a bit of a revelation. Last year made his major league debut with the reds early in the season started. Four games came in and relief and nine others and did a really really nice job. Here's david bell on what he liked from. Tj last night looks very lockton. Yeah maybe could've been the best basketball. I've seen include. Let's santa law so good last year. But his fastball of really good is everyone which means it just locked in a totally kind of grown accustomed to tj being very focused and determined so even those beverly in the spring doesn't surprise me at perching david bell last night talking about t j anto. I don't wanna make too much out of one. Spring training outing the didn't count. There is a lot of foolishness and doing that. But he is a part of a mix of guys who will ultimately answer one of the critical questions about the reds this spring. Which is who's gonna make up the back into the rotation right and even if he doesn't end up as a starter he could be a valuable member of a bullpen. that said goodbye to two quality. Relievers this offseason and rice laziest and archie bradley. But what role will tj antone bien after a good two thousand twenty. Here he is and what role he would like to be. Yeah i wanna start but wherever those. Tv's all right. Good short concise. It's the right answer. You don't get the sense just listening to that that he's going to be upset if he's not a starting pitcher but that is what he's been for most of his professional career one hundred and eleven appearances in the minor leagues one hundred and nine as a starter with different levels of success. I don't think there was anything about just looking. At his minor league statistical profile that would have suggested that he would emerge last. Year is valuable arm but he was. Era to eighty again pitched started four games when needed member wade. Miley had to miss some time. Sonny gray mr starr disc- he came out of the bullpen. Nine times and did a nice job. He'd really did a nice job last year. So now the question is does he factor into the mix a little bit more in the race to be the last starter.

"If I could be Mr Happy for a second, and I know you could almost argue. My brother not argue this point. You'd almost argue. The most important thing that happened tonight was that Sonny Gray came out of it to this point. Feeling good. Hopefully he wakes up tomorrow morning. Feeling good. Just think of it. In those terms. They lined up their hammers last night tonight Tomorrow. Sonny Gray had not pitched in 12 days, 12 days coming off a back injury had been battered in his previous two games, had pitched four innings in his last two starts giving up 11 runs. I know I watched the first encounter, holding my breath saying, How's he gonna feel? And as he said, that first batter Fastball up in away got him to chase. He felt good. The original plan is David Bell said was 65 pitches He got 2 80 Sonny Gray gave him 80 pitches tonight, five innings, two hits, one run. He struck out eight and walked one. You could very well argue the most significant thing to come out of tonight. Despite the loss is that Sonny Gray feels good. Now, among other things. It is one thing and I tweeted this earlier. It's one thing to be feeble at the plate against the likes of Devon Williams and Josh Hater. Most of baseball, especially Williams is feeble against those who it's like the chase. The Chase is on. It's like the 90 nasty boys. When you play the Brewers, the Chase is on to get the lead because you don't want to be trailing by the seventh inning. If you're trailing in the seventh, your host And the rights were host tonight. Seven. Williams's nasty I mean, nasty, so it is no great shock. You came away with nothing. Tueni's against Williams and one in against hater. The problem is, you can't be feeble against Brett Anderson. No disrespect to Brett Anderson. But you can't in a game of this significant certainly. Face six innings of Brett Anderson and score two runs one of those earned you just can't And yet they did. Two other questions. I have two things that come to mind. I wonder if they're questions that come to your mind. Um one. If a mere Garrett And boy, I've said this before I just had. I just felt deja vu if a mere Garrett was going to pitch in the eighth inning. Why couldn't he have come in in the seventh facing the lefty, so guard with the game tied at two Instead and tone pitch to the lefty. So guard who doubled I'd argue that was a single an error on on Aquino. But you get what you get with Reds official scores and that was three too, and that was the ballgame. Did anybody else wonder that mean Garrett pitch last night? So I would I wasn't like front guessing because I didn't know his availability. I have no idea how he felt or what they were thinking. But If they went to him in the eighth. My first thought was well, Wait a minute. You're going to him in the eighth and you're losing. Why didn't you go to him in the seventh when it was tied to face the left hander and then my other thought was Nixon's Ella's in in reality in extended spring training for the Reds right now. And yet the raids are in the middle of a playoff chase. Nixon's L Over for tonight is one for 18 since he's come back. And the the rights have a guy who's their best hitter in September in showgirl Akiyama, who didn't start tonight. And didn't pinch it tonight. To think two questions that came to mind for me. I'm going to turn it over to you. And after the top of the R we're going to get after this for two solid hours. You ready? 513749 7100 Big £1.700 On T losing night for the Reds three to the final we discuss after your news. It's Kelsey Chevrolet..

American Airlines this week, saying as many 19,000 of their employees at risk in Delta, saying 3000. Their pilots were going to be furloughed all of this basically to a inform their employees of what's going on, but also to send a very clear message to Washington that We really need more money or payroll extension to keep these people on the payroll. Uh, that way we won't have to lay him off. And sadly, Mike, I think they're probably going to get exactly what their lobbying for I think not that long ago. The pilot shortage It was six months ago. You and I were talking about, you know, Worldwide demand for travel is going to double over the course of the next, you know. 10 to 20 years and, yeah, mechanics, pilots, all that we're going to have shorted you. Reds, Pirates games postponed as Cincinnati player tests positive for COVID-19
"This is sports talk later for Lance Encounters for 700 wlw. By the way. Hope you had a great weekend. As of right now, we are expecting the Reds to take on the Kansas City Royals tomorrow night. In Kansas City. That'll be an 805 1st pitch. We go on the air, with the Arnell carriers inside pitch at 705 Luis Castillo is said to get the ball against Brad Keller. Trevor Bauer is now scheduled to pitch on Wednesday, followed up by Sonny Gray. In the first game of a four game series against the Cardinals in ST Louis on Thursday, this after the weekend that was lost after Friday night raids beat the Pittsburgh Pirates and then a couple of hours after the game. We find out that a player tested positive. For covert 19. Saturday's game postponed Sunday's game postponed Ah, couple of things worth pointing out here. Seafront Rosecrans, who, by the way, covers the Reds for the athletic And doesn't awesome job. I've tweeted out a link to a piece that I think will guide you through everything happening with this team right now. But since Saturday, every Reds player has tested at least three times. The players were tested. Saturday, Sunday morning and this morning. Pittsburgh Pirates. Players were also tested in Cincinnati before they flew to Pittsburgh last night. Um As of now. Based on reporting from a couple of it from people who are close to this. There's only been one positive test on the Reds, and it was the player who found out that he was testing positive work over 19 on Friday night. That player has since tested positive again. But as of now and again, there's the latest round of testing results that they have to get. No other Reds player has tested positive. The Reds have yet to fly to Kansas City. They are supposed to fly to Casey tomorrow if they're cleared to play. The player who tested positive would have to be placed on the injured list. Somebody's going to have to be brought up to take his place. The The Pirates will be here in mid September, September 14th to the 16th so there is ample time to make up. Two games They missed right now. The Reds have 40 games remaining. There are 41 days between now and September, the 27th which is the end of the regular season, and so obviously they're not playing today They're going to play 40 games and 40 days to get to 60. They already have a double header scheduled Against the Cubs next weekend. But there is not only a Pittsburgh trip to Cincinnati, but the Reds also going PNC Park and so you can make up one of the games there if you have to. But as of now, The plan is to play. Tomorrow night against the Royals. Again. All of this is very, very fluid. As we've seen with the Cardinals as we've seen with the Miami Marlins, the good news is again. After the one player tested positive with that result being released. On Friday. Reportedly. No other Reds player has subsequently tested positive and also know Pittsburgh Pirates player As of right now 6 26 on Monday night, no other Pirates player Has tested positive. So there you go, Uh 513749 7800 The big £1.700 free call AT and T. Jerry is calling from Claremont County. Hi, Jerry. Jerry. Hope something happens. Jerry. Your wine? Yeah, sure. Go. Oh, well. A little question here if one Holding him and nobody there. Miles is okay. But they prayed about because they have to get tests back from the other players to ensure that there not also testing positive. Woman get their pink. Ooh, they did that. And so there are awaiting the latest the Siri's of results and they hope to play tomorrow. The Pirates also hope to play tomorrow. Yeah, this time, noting the Reds go to Kansas City before they do that they need to get to clear And for that to happen, they want to ensure there is no other players testing positive. Your city's okay. Well, yeah. I mean, the players are routinely testing positive testing, which is why we found out that a player tested positive on Friday night. Yes. Okay. Okay. Is that all right with you? Yeah. No. There was just a bad weekend without baseball. Yeah, Wass, I I don't I can't disagree with that. Ana would do anything about it. I wanna thank you very much. Thank you. Ok, thanks. Have a good evening. You you you do the same. The Miami Marlins. You may recall after the first weekend of the year they were in Philadelphia, and then again, they had a game scheduled against the Phillies. And on Sunday morning. They found out that a number of players on that team had tested positive for Cove in 19 And instead of baseball, swooping in and stopping the Marlins from playing. Instead, the players were allowed to vote. Whether or not they play now, I'm not sure why that would ever be the case. But that's that was the plan. That was the plan baseball let the Miami Marlins players vote via text by the way. On whether or not they want to play. They did play the game that day in Philadelphia, and then As it turned out that they had close to 20 members of their traveling party. The majority were players, obviously not all of them. The majority of players that a bunch of guys in there traveling party test positive for cocaine, 19 And then it took them forever to get back on the field where baseball is trying to do. Is prevented outbreak now. It is worth wondering. This. Today is the 17th of August regular season baseball ends on September the 27th. Obviously, everybody has off days built in, so there's time if you've got to miss a couple of days. What I do kind of wonder, though. Well, I think baseball has done the right thing here and frankly, I think they did the right thing with the ST Louis Cardinals. October. When we have 16 teams in the playoffs. And we're trying to squeeze a lot of Siri's in a very tight window. And ensure that the season the post season is over before we really get to cold weather in November. What's gonna happen when we have a situation with the team in the playoffs like the one that popped up for the Reds on Friday night? Positive test and now we're not going to play for a couple of days. Not playing for a couple of days in the regular season is really not that big a deal. Not playing for a couple of days in the postseason. Could have a significant short and long term impact. More on that coming up in the seven o'clock hour at Mohagher, 15. 30 is by how you can hit me up on Twitter. One of the best players in college football is has started a petition. We may be close to a change in how they will handle doubleheaders. We'll get to that before. We're done tonight as well. I do want you to take a listen caller had mentioned Sonny Gray earlier. I thought there was some really good stuff from sunny after the game last night, you'd be interested in hearing. There are five different cuts radio term here that I'd like you to take a listen to first Sonny on what his message was to the team. Remember going into the game? Obviously, they were on a four game losing streak what his message was to the team prior to the game. I just knew we needed to come out with a little more fire and a little more energy and a little more. Just a little more. Give it in this game, and, ah No, That was my whole thing. Tonight was just like I was just telling the boys I was saying. We're coming to play today like let's go. Let's go play a baseball game. Let's Let's go Win a baseball game and, Ah And that was it other Everything else was kind of, you know. It was. I was just that was just my hole. That was just my whole kind of my thing was like we're here to play. We're here to play today and Well, we need to come out with a little more fire, a little more energy and a little more. Give a four letter word starting with an s ending in a tea. In this game. Sonny Gray. And then he followed up with and I mentioned the adversity Keep in mind. This team would have been without those stocks and send cell for three days with the uncertainty of the testing. They'd been without Tucker Bernard on the paternity leave. They dropped four straight, Sonny on the adversity this team had been facing I just feel like we've had a couple of tough games. We've had a couple of tough things not go our way and I just wanted today just needed to be about We need to put all everything else that we got going on. Whether it's not having guys losing close games, whatever it is. It's a relevant when we step on that field tonight, and, uh and that was it, You know, just just intent. Intensity. Competitiveness, like we're here to play a game today, and that was it. I don't know if you noticed or not. But in the first inning last night, Anthony Rizzo leaned into or At AA or didn't try to get out of a pitch that that barely clipped him Now when Derek Dietrich did that we love Derek Dietrich, and when Rizzo does it, we don't like Anthony Rizzo cause he's on the opposing team. I get it, but at the end of the inning There was an exchange. Sonny Gray as he was walking off, had an exchange with Anthony Rizzo. Sonny was asked after the game about that between Gray and Rizzo. I think that was just some competitors just competing, But yes, I definitely wanted Teo. I definitely wanted to try to ignite something, you know, Let's let's definitely I wanted everyone to know that we're here to play tonight. We're not going to sit back and just and just get our butts kicked. We're here to play. I like that. A line. Give me two more on this was a subject of much debate. Sonny was in the sixth, had two outs and went into that inning with Ah, really comfortable lead at nine to nothing. Remember, he walked the leadoff hitter to begin that inning. 80 lei. News stories made an error on a poor throw Sunny, then gotta strike out later in the inning. It would have been the final out of the inning, and he would have been done but the Suarez aRer open up the door and kept things going well. David Bell walked out to the mound. And made a pitching change at that point, But Sonny was asked after the game about what was said on the mound when David reached the top of the mound with with Tucker and with Sonny. He asked me how I was doing. If I if I could have kept going. It was that was one of those decisions that I gave. I gave him the ball and and turned it over to the bullpen. But he was It was. He was leaving the option open for me there, and sunny went on to talk about the difficulties of a shortened summer camp. Regular spring training is six weeks you play 27 exhibition games. They'd been at home in quarantine doing. They're throwing at a college or out of their garage or in their back yard, but not At the point where you normally would be for pictures around Major League baseball of being ramped up physically and from an arm strength standpoint and sunny addressed that last night. And I think we're almost there, too. Just leashes be open and just go out there and and throw, But it is also something that you have to It is a little closely monitored because it has it was very you could get ready, but it's still very quick getting to 9100 pitches and I feel like I'm almost there too. Just just to just go Almost there. Not there yet getting closer And let's remember. We're a weekend of the season in 2/5 of the Reds rotation has gone on the injured list Now. Anthony DeSclafani was on the injured list. Wait, Miley now goes on the injury list. Look around Major League baseball starting pitchers, relief pitchers. They're having troubles. Because their camp with short, they're not fully ramped up physically legs. Jon Lester left a five innings shutout in a no hitter the other night after 75 pitches because he said, his legs were wobbly. He's not fully there yet. The other night. Tyler Glass now of the Tampa Bay Rays, left a game after four innings, where he had struck at nine allowed one hit and his manager said. Arm strength wise. He was only build up to about 75 to 85 pitches, and they took him out. The Reds have been and I give them credit the call. Earlier it criticized Sonny for not being able to throw more. I give the Reds credit the way Sonny in the way guys like Bauer and kissed, you have approached the off season. They are ahead of the game. Those three have thrown more pitches that most pitchers in baseball right now, the average starting pitcher has only been able to hang around and throw about 73 pitches in a start. The Reds Top three or Chloe throwing closer to 95 pitches a game because they've worked their way to that through their lead up of three weeks and now, But they're not quite ready to be unleashed. As Sonny said. No. Trevor got up to 105 and that's about as far as he can go right now. Next time out a little bit more next time out, little bit, Mohr, But let me state this on Sonny.

"Great American Ballpark Knockoff Cup tonight Final Score 12 to 7 to snap that four game losing streak. It was a good night all around for the starting pitching and for the offense and with more on that, Let's turn it over to two guys who called it Tommy throwing Jeff Brantley. Thanks yet good one tonight. Well in some respects Let's start with the offense 12 7 Great to see Nick Castellanos with the Grand Slam. We've seen him up there a few times with runners in scoring position. Even the bases loaded where he hasn't come through way came through in a big way tonight and Mike Moustakas showed the Reds what they were missing with him out of the lineup the last few days, regardless of how you slice this, it was a great ball game. Sonny Great threw the ball a cz. Good as you can throw it a big start in a big spot where your team had to have a win. Against the guy and cow Hendrix coming off a shut out his last time out. I thought the Red's really put together some great offense and great at match early, which allowed them to see a lot of pitches that helped them as they moved on Big. Huge fifth inning, but I just think that there was ah mohr of a sense of purpose here tonight and a sense of drive and and really in a To be honest with you. It looked like they were they were gonna will will themselves to win this ball game. No matter how they had to do it kind of felt like they had their swagger back tonight that we saw not only in summer camp but also early on the Tiger Siri's. It's interesting how that kind of thing you said the word swagger. One wind can can move you in a much better direction, especially against an inter division rivalry like the Cubs. And I think that you'd like to believe that Luis Castillo and the Reds will bring that tomorrow. Get out of here with a split against the Cubs. Yes, it's a ah! Three and four home stand, but you're going to Detroit to play the Tigers, and you'd like to pay them back a bit. No question about that. How good was Sonny Gray? How about just one hit over six and 2/3 innings without being charged? Unearned run. He also struck out 11. Outstanding tonight. Reds win it 12 7 yet back to you. All right. Thank you. Tommy. David Bell was down in the clubhouse. Now let's hear what he has to say about tonight's victory. In and Sonny. He's really Taken. You know, the opening day start and you know, coming out tonight on a couple losses in a row, and ah lotsa. He absolutely loves the challenge of it. And You know it shows when you can embrace that, and I'm not always is he, you know an outstanding pitcher, but but he launched the extra challenge and is a great teammate. And it's a great combination. You know, you need a big game. You can really pitch their great teammate and you take that upon yourself. So, guys really I understand that and appreciated and sizzle everything you want to know about Sonny Gray. Obviously, you guys miss Miss Takis and sins Ln both of them made their presence felt tonight and really a lot of contributions offensively. How much did The team need this offensive confidence that they got tonight. Yeah, it was a big night. Offensively. Castano's I mean the two run homer. The score first by Moos makes Denzel came back. It was great to have The whole team back. I mean, Hey, you know It's a relief that you know everyone's healthy and So it just felt right tonight. You know, it felt right to have everyone back, everyone healthy and have the whole group back together. This team hadn't come together and become this close together. As we have. Maybe it wouldn't have been a big deal, but It's not the case, So it was a big deal and we know we have a job to do no matter what, but sure did feel right tonight. That's Reds manager David Bell. When we come back, we'll take a look around at scores around baseball. This is the Reds radio Network,.

"Night I was watching a game and I mention it when I was joined Capen P. B.. I'm the first to tell you that you Darvish is got filthy stuff healthy. but the amount of celebration that was going on for that strike counts brigade or rates for accounts are fine they are fun to color your in a pennant race. at that point you'd given up at the height of the celebration you've given up four runs in five innings quality start around now victory serve our fund that sort of thing. when my the way you. children a major league record for a little while I know and that's what everyone like on Twitter and elsewhere and if everyone's giving the use standing do give up and and I'd like you to ours he gave up four runs in the first five innings what are you giving that a standing ovation the fourth run was a killer too like they weren't going to. it was bad I know but Sonny gray man you know you. he shot a major league record as well I think did night tide Nolan Ryan for thirty two starts where he didn't give up more than six kids in it I thought he said I'm sorry I don't know I think okay. amazing the toughest got hit the nationally I just found it was sitting on my couch just watching it thinking everyone's you're doing well. corn you in a pennant race you're a better rates and everyone's you when you did have thirteen straight he also gave a four rounds of the first five innings the goal is to win games. we in man so I was planned for your use is that when you know I didn't understand it in fact I got a giggle out of it do I really don't want use my. well. when he's walking off the mound is that standing ovation worthy like even the other night Cole Hamels walked up to three the third. it's kind of silly Carmen I make knowledge into that but like in in really is it as impressive these days when everyone only talks about three outcomes a walk a strikeout teen still pretty awesome I'm with my got upset but it the end of the day your in a pennant race and your pitcher who I think is is fantastic in his stuff is filthy. four runs in the first five innings in and I know we went on to page seven and I give him a ton of credit because we give we give Jon Lester Tana credit all the time and he'll have a bad for standing but he'll buckle down Brian I recognize all that you Darvish kept the cubs in the game I just was giggling at the amount of celebration that's the right of the sand in you that's the Reds hate yeah it's a better. and boy that's not true your team scored how many runs you're the long lost Brennaman boy and you guys as a fan base common Laura fee would you. your. the chuckle high. baseball I see this because I love the chuckle hot was open because of the strike out. I don't know if that's going to chuckle out was open but I mean this thirteen strike out of this and I go you're saying. yeah. better when he was finished yes in seven innings final four runs. all the start but seven innings for runs and thirteen cases during our conversation I'm talking about all of the glee that was on display when your pitcher you start that what is any are and the guy was given a four run five any more. someone to run an inning for the first five minutes thirty what's thirty six divided by five seven. you know we're you Ewing it regularly. at Wrigley yesterday and you were standing up in Ewing at the end of his outing he wants to hear why. where you you I was not you and why weren't let me only when he when he was in the middle of a street the strike out straight at one point dating back to his last start hit twenty five strikeouts in ten minutes I don't like but but the fourth one now and then it was like okay you had a bad first inning you were then awesome and I'm like cool and then you gave up the fourth run and that was bad like you know what at least at the end of the year you guys will have the U. Darby strike out stroke gas that's what you'll have we still feel a little bit better he Jenny Aussies you actually have you can you'll feel a little bit better about you at at the at your site. good about you well point six strikeouts per nine for you Darvish wasn't going in the next year when you look at the positives on the cubs team you'll list you Darvish is a positive when you say okay what is this team having its core right now of course list you Darvish is a good part of the core. yeah I think you have a picture of a dress maybe it's certainly I would you give him the ball. on one and in one game right every time matters you give it down on the road I would. but he wouldn't give it to him no one gives you can be injured really Samuel Hamels back not give it to last not anymore unless he does something in these last. give Jon Lester goes six inning scoreless today and then the next game really good then you start feeling good about Jon Lester got bad chips exiting scoreless that she thinks it might not know that I'm. no that's not what he said I'm done put words in his mouth right now should you do bad as right it is said words right over now. you can say words what did you say then you said where you I understand that you are you. you you know you're going I was sunny and my cats and I am sure you weren't you like you since you are so happy yesterday watch and Cincinnati that's not true you know what is this true do you believe the series the two series that we thought originally would would would get the division could that be for the final playoff spot could cubs cardinals last made a sickly beating each other up if it goes for in three three and four well while the Milwaukee Milwaukee keeps winning Washington who's running and basically do the cubs in cardinals play for the last play I think I need to finish the season though they finish at San Diego and at Colorado something like five hundred. also. they've got a they've got Pittsburgh in there too right of the plate. maybe it's bizarre. right now but then at the end of the day go to act at Pittsburgh and then at Colorado I think is how the indices it's also five hundred they have an easier schedule in the call and look cardinal schedule they play besides the seven against the cubs I believe that when the nats now believe zona yeah they got three against owner so I mean. in sync at themselves on a strike that that that's our last gas heating the Brewster when. are going to win the. unless one of these teams season one in their last sixteen I don't buy food we asked yesterday about this when we all in all I think was me when Jesse maybe we all fit we all figured it would still be the brewers ended up missing the plan yeah if that one doesn't isn't that the greatest sign that the cubs are not going to make the postseason because of where they the cardinal said above them right now no it depends how they deal. I know I know but that was gonna have to go into again it'll five into against the cardinals Milwaukee doesn't lose guys in first place it's Milwaukee has. right one is is that if Milwaukee wins the division isn't it less likely the cubs are in at all because the cardinals have a two game lead over the cubs of your private to they don't have a two game. two I'm saying they're going five inch okay even of the cubs go for and three against the cardinals they could still mess at standpoint we know that yeah they could miss a pleasant tire the cardinals may end up only getting the second wild card like it's not going to be any more pressure packed than these you know start tomorrow night I mean think about it so it's not like they're all. yesterday was telling me all their must win starting Thursday are lost win now. almost when I was there was a must win the day sweep the the Reds and then sweep the pirates when you get them again and then try to be four and three five into against the cardinals in those seven but you can't lose to the Reds right into the part because. must win every game and I want to beat him every game. top may you got a lesson if you go five the one against the hapless Pittsburgh in Cincinnati I think you've done your job five in one depending on the other side then you check your what you have right now I think you've done your job up to that point and then it's about going about the business to beat up on Saint Louis at home that was my point Johnny that you have you have you see your point you have to take care of the Reds in the pirates yes guide to a window so he's got right about a you got a win tonight and you got it it will sweep the pirates in between all this is that the last. it's game stone yeah stop right because you you you even though you gave up three on the first floor were got you back to three one. and your three to you like guys manufacture couple runs here sh what. and then it might. Castellanos your book Castellano struck on the big should change yeah with two outs of nasty hook that's a great one for the off season two is what right do nasty hugs for which worries anyway no I'm saying Cassiano yeah I think the shorter conversations I just want to a guy trying to run him out of town since made the change for her are you batting fifth and you take it. that's what I want to know or do you say to yourself hi you you now finally got a minute forty home runs ninety plus RBI's and by the way that's trading for pitching or something forty home runs gonna be top six and then actually yeah yeah I mean I don't care how many home runs are being hit around the world there's there's not seventy being. forty yeah point is that sixty six being is those only I think they're seven guys in all of baseball they have forty home run he's got a top ten forty you'll be taught his at bats to he's only got around five hundred right at five hundred I think after last night's game before ninety seven four ninety eight the production and the at bat the amount of the data I don't..
Winners and losers of the 2019 MLB trade deadline
"We'll talk a little bit more about what happened with the trade last night so I'm too teams in the Cincinnati Reds and the the New York Mets who are not really in contention in their respective divisions either the the Cincinnati Reds a little bit better off I think in terms of whether or not they think they can make a push towards the playoffs now they're in fourth place eight games out of their division with both the brewers and the cubs sitting right in front of them of course are in the center the got the cardinals up there as well so three teams between them in the top right he Pittsburgh Pirates who were team that was in the mix and Josh fell on an absolute tear at the beginning of the season I had I had sort of put them back into contention made them feel like a maybe the pirates were involved that was the one division baseball we looked up and down you said I don't know who's gonna win this thing clearly the cubs are a favorite we got five teams here could come out and do some damage you take a look at the the wild card standings now the Reds not looking so hot there six and a half games out but they do have one of the best rotations in all of baseball specifically in all of the National League now they could be doing something here and they've got this they've got this general manager Nick crawled not Nick Kroll not the comedian not that the dude from from the fantasy football shows that show called blanking on the name of that show it we came here if you can remember the name of that show that was a fun one the on assets was it was like the it might be just pop on Intel to me did the league the league dude phenomenal show the league I blanked on management off there for a couple years Nick Kroll of course rocks in on the league Nick Kroll the general manager of the Cincinnati Reds thank you and I'll be back bright arsenic crawl was promoted from the president of baseball lobster like the admin assistant to the general manager a couple years back for the ranch it ever since he's taking over as GM of the Reds he's been competitive and I think that's all you can ask for from a general manager number last offseason when nobody was making trades nobody was signing players and he was out here we want to do one for mac camp yes you'll pull weeds Alex would he was out here saying we're going to be a competitive team went out to get Sonny gray from the New York Yankees so this is a guy who's been aggressive now I'm liking that because two of the players that were traded in two of the top line pitchers in Marcus Stroman and then introvert our that were treated because they both have a year of team control beyond this year they've set themselves up now to try to be competitive this offseason and be competitive in the next year and the Reds well we've got a deficiency in offense they were not going to get anything for Yasiel per week he was a free agent the end of this year he was gonna leave more than likely again I'll see what I said when they traded for him yes simply doesn't scream Cincinnati to me he's not a guy why I look and I think man that died that day both with the Cincinnati Reds role about now barely like plan there any like fighting for because if you miss this last night we've got plenty of audio for you on the other side the Reds in the pirates got into a brawl and this was in a a match Muncie Madison Bumgarner I'm gonna bark at you is around the bases type stuff all this was an actual brawl and the the irony in all this is the brawl goes down like within two or three minutes of us finding out the yes yep week has been moved from the Cincinnati Reds to the Cleveland Indians after not familiar with what the trade is the went down Trevor Bauer of the Indians one of their front line starters how the Indians by the way also feel like air and they're right in the middle of their division known as well sit behind the the minister twins but Cleveland Indians right now are two games up in at number one wild card spot if you go when you look at the division they still got a chance to go and win their division three back to the Minnesota Twins so they traded one of their best pitcher Jim Trevor Bauer with again a year of team control beyond this season but they feel like they're getting Danny Salazar back they also feel like they're getting Corey Kluber back who have been throwing on the side cells are may be activated as early as later this week so Indians feel like they've got reinforcements they also filled two major holes to major deficiencies in their line up and that's that they went out they got friend know ray is from the the of the San Diego Padres to was rumors that poppers were looking to move either him or hunter Renfroe I think if you look around for was more of a a better corner outfielder and you've got a talent friend arrays who's really a designated hitter I so he's I mean he's got a slot right into a DH spot there in Cleveland and the Indians also make a cross state trade the three team deal that sends Yasiel Puig now are to the to the Cleveland Indians so it is I think I won this deal you get friend rants redid young power hitting designated hitter who you're gonna put your line it probably for the next decade or so you would hope you got pulley gal who's got playoff experience Tuesday he fighter who's the guy who gets under other teams getting he's been plants a pretty damn good baseball of late and you give up Trevor Bauer Trevor Bauer now goes to the Cincinnati Reds sort of a weird deal there the pod reason have given up login what login Allen was a back in young starter for them and they give up friend raises we mention the Cincinnati Reds though this is a peculiar one they give up their number one prospect in their organization now he had a down season is in Taylor Trammell but they do believe this guy projects to be a major leader in the next couple years I don't think he's played beyond double eight people on the tax line already I too and I'd say in my head hurt trying to figure out what the hell the potters are thinking with that trade I'll tell you what I think the Padres are thinking with that trade I think the thinking they're not done they know was sent to guard this offseason may still be a trade piece that the that the New York Mets are looking to move maybe they'll be looking to move Marcus Stroman there will be moves made this offseason but now the Padres which are already pretty stacked minor league system have set themselves up to go out making other moves and out and bring some pieces in that will help them be a competitive team I'm all about teams were not totally in the mix yet who are not totally competitive yet setting themselves up for future seasons and I think that's what we're seeing with the Padres a little bit more clearly than what we see with both the Reds and the Mets the Reds and the Mets in acquiring the two front line starters that were available that we knew were available have kind of thrown this whole buyer seller thing

"The brewers Sonny gray on amount for your Cincinnati Reds the rents are five and a half games out of first place four and a half out of a wild card but there is something like eight teams between the Reds in that second wild card spot so the it's interesting so ESPN did a story today on its website and I'm reading it right now about playoff pop all hoops who's in who's out and they break it down on different things like looking like locks in the Dodgers are in that category the Astros the Yankees the twins the Braves they like the rays chances right now seventy seven and a half percent ESPN says then the cubs nationals red Sox brewers and and and such still it they list the Indians the Rockies the Phillies the cardinals the athletics the Padres the diamond backs in the Rangers and then in a category not out of it but hope Sir slam the Mets the pirates the angels and the white Sox and your Cincinnati Reds so they're not love did with teams like the blue jays in the mariners in the giants in the Marlins and teams like that they are right there in the category of not out of it but hopes are slim then grabs which is a great website I love fan graphs each day they update playoff possibilities and right now your Reds at thirty nine and forty four fourth place in the National League central division with Yasiel Puig in his parole X. with Joey Votto when is charging numbers with low res Louise because steel and his all star credentials the Cincinnati Reds according to fangraphs have a chance of nine point two percent of making the playoffs so again I think it's great with the Reds are doing I think it is going to be a very interesting a weeks maybe told a half at most three weeks at most to see whether or not the Reds are really in this thing and if they'll make a charge from a roster in trade standpoint to try to make something happen but right now the stats would tell you that it would not be prudent for the Reds to do anything in terms of a player acquisition another compatible games like last night it might be different standing but a way and this is Jim on his cell you want to talk about the home run derby and Ryan Braun you go right ahead Jim thanks again with the home run derby and how you said it affected so many different players and you mentioned are geared to orders from the red dot Hamilton yes the thing is we didn't win that competition like a million month that first round and warm self out what it was no no it was more of a commentary of what happened players in the home run derby but yes he did I forget how many he had it rounds one or two but it was it was it a Nordic number you basically warm self out now I knew I could never doubt if you're in the first place no no no it's it's so it's legitimate and we cited players that were in it like Adam duvall and and fracture that read that well that wanted here a couple of years ago but it just seems like anybody that participates in that and has any kind of success at least the second half of that season is a struggle for them and so in some cases they just disappear completely it is in our heart yeah so where it works buddy thanks for the phone call no no I well if you'll recall in that home run derby that Hamilton participated in the man he was traded for Edinson Volquez went to the all star game that year to and there was something that was really kind of funny before that last night it was before the last round Volquez brought a briefcase out that was allegedly full of money just put a down home plate you just stole Hamilton here you take it you got it but no I I I think the home run derby is more exciting than the game I think I think that I was the I think inter interleague play he has created that I think the fact that every game for every team is available to you on television now the mystique of what the American leg is all about that existed here in Cincinnati up until about nineteen seventy five maybe whatever they want to more than just one national game a week on NBC I think the mistake is gone make it is that is it this is the meeting was game played in the middle of the summer but the home run derby has really liven things for the weekend it really has I I get everything is personal taste personal preference I just think the home run derby to me at least is just more appealing than watching the baseball all star game it's coming up on two o'clock time for the news on newsradio seven hundred W. "Up third base line. He went after it picked it up and made a good throw. The farmer was called safe. And the giants are not going to challenge to be a wild pitch. Still only one out here in the bottom of the third. Do you know the cow to Sonny gray fastball for a strike? Here is a ball outside with another fastball. It's three and one we'll beat. He's got a bear down here and figure out a way to throw a strike. It's the pitcher at the plate. If he loses gray, I think he may become an out of his game three and one. Barnard? Ondeck pitch is low for ball four. That tells you all you need to know Bruce bocce coming out. Very very disappointing. I'm sure Tyler media came out of the gates firing and looked like he was ready to have a great night. And in the end, it is a disastrous night for the young giants right hander. Who's made a lot of progress has pitched rate in the minor leagues. "Scoreboard already done today. The rivalry cubs. And cardinals the cubs win. This one Kyle Hendricks goes and shutout. The cardinals for zip later on twins at Yankees raise at Orioles. The nationals in Phillies in Phillies, of course, Bryce Harper against his former team roles in Detroit to take on the Tigers Mariners go east to take on the Indians in Cleveland. The Braves are in Florida take on the Marlins. The Blue Jays in Texas to take on the Rangers range the Red Sox and White Sox from Chicago Mets and brewers in Milwaukee. And a couple of games in the NFL west Diamondbacks and Rockies in Colorado and the dodgers and the Padres. So that's what the school board looks like tonight. And again Tyler Beatty will make two thousand nineteen debut after fine one point nine nine era in Sacramento as far as the lineup is concerned tonight for the giants against the Cincinnati Reds. Former? And Yankee Sonny gray will go to the mount he's only four but not bad three point six four era. He's had some bad luck against Beatty. Joe panics gonna lead off and play. Second base mentioned my Gerber. He's going to be in left field. Again. If you missed it Gerber three fifty seven batting average and one five seven Opie s so he's been good. He's in the two holes. The giants continue to look for offense. Buster Posey's been hot hits well in that Parkinson's Inada he's in the three hole. Brandon belt's gonna play first base hitting four. Evan longoria. Play third base. He's hitting in the five whole Brennan Crawford. Still trying to snap out of that slump easing six and obviously playing short Kim implores hitting seven and he's in center field. Steven Duggar in right? He's banning eighth. And again Tyler Beatty to the mound batting night as the giants. Take off against

"And Ireland fasttrack less than half hour away on ESPN LA. No, I'll never go. They are in the sixth inning now at dodgers stadium. Walker? Bueller thrown really well. So as Sonny gray for the reds, it's scoreless. As we go to the top of the centigrade. That's his third team in three years. Right. He's he's went around. He's Yankees reds now. Yep. All right. So the NBA playoffs are going on the biggest surprise so far in the playoffs. Is that the warriors lost to the clippers? They blew a thirty one point. Aren't you little surprised? Okay. So he's down to as quick as they are both games in Portland. Yeah. I'll be I'll be surprised if they go out with a whimper, I think Portland Damian Lillard sa- most underrated player in the league. Like people don't talk about. So underrated that everybody talks about. No. But like he's famous for being known as the most underrated player in the league. Maybe. But I mean, if you ask people name the the top guards in the league, they normally don't get to him until four or five and he's gonna. Be a lock for second team all NBA this year. But, you know, people talk about Ben Simmons before they talk about Damian Lillard, Damian Lillard is way better. And I think that Damian Lillard and C J McCollum have owned the Oklahoma City backward, and you managed that you can throw Paul George in there if you want right. So they we'll see if those guys show up in Oklahoma. But the biggest surprise was clippers beaten the words nobody I mean, you thought that'd be sweep I thought I'd be sweep. Yeah. And and maybe the weirdest thing is that Kevin Durant is being guarded. Kevin Durant is six eleven Michael says, he's seven feet tall. Michael six ten in St. Nick says Durant is seven feet tall. He's being guarded by six foot one inch Patrick Beverley, and nobody can understand how Beverly is shutting down Durant in in the game to Durant had nine turnovers and eight points. Yup. So Durant just talked. He was just asked about how Patrick Beverley. Is shutting him down. Here's Kevin Durant with the media moments ago at heart by watching. And if so what was your takeaway from the last game? You do very well we had a nice Florida game. You know, let's go back to whole last month of the season plan this way for a while. And we got to this series game. One has some nice moments but find a giving defense which been working top blocking everything on there. So not even looking at three point line. Just force the Gaza side three point mall. So for us when I get the ball bus bus. You know, I got a pest Patrick Beverley who was up underneath me, well, academically shoot over the top score every time if it's a one on one situation, but we gotta got jump in and help. And then we got another guy. That's sitting on the way for me to jiggle the basketball with the basketball on the floor. I you know, I could probably make forty three percent of my shots about shooting like that. But that's not really going to do nothing for us at the outcome of the game..
Joey Votto, Padres And Sonny Gray discussed on Ken Broo
"Hour reds last night. What on the road played the Padres and lost sixty to pay no attention to preseason exhibition. Baseball a final scores. They mean little here's what I I watched this game last night. I was flipping around. I was watching this watch little Murray state game last night. Joey Votto gotta hit last night. But you could tell bottles not statistically having a great spring. But you can tell by looking at what he's doing that Bado is playing with things he's playing with his worry. How he grips the bat. He's play with his swaying. He's playing with his time between pitches. He's I never really worry about Joey Votto in the spring. I know we got off to that clunker a start a couple of years ago. But I know what he's doing. He knows what he's doing more important. The other thing that struck me about that game last night Sonny gray Saudi great two innings to hits strikes out three. No walks burst outing of the spring. You could not ask for anything better from Sonny gray goes to goes to which means next outing. You hope he goes three which means next outing. You hope he goes four, which means you hope he's ready by opening day thought he play pitched well Amir Garrett threw the ball. Well, now Garrett was a little little wild with someone who's pitches or a couple that were up one of the dirt. But he throws an inning of scoreless. Hitless baseball thought he threw the ball very well and even for his rough spring as he's had Cody read through well last night in any two strikeouts. No walks by far his best outing of the spring. So even though the final score read six to the guys that most probably will be in the mix for a spot. On the twenty five man roster. I thought acquitted themselves well from pitching standpoint and Matt Kemp Matt camp. This is a guy I continue to sail be shocked if he's on the opening day roster. But danged if he doesn't have another to hit game he ever effortless. Swing on a double but easily beat out the beat the throw in the second base to for three for Matt Kemp last night guy sitting three thirty eight on the spring. So honestly, not bad not bad

"Disappointed with wool Myers and we'll Myers had experience in the outfield. But now you look at it. And you know, the Padres one of their top prospect, Josh Naylor is chomping at the bit. In double a, you know, there are some projection systems out there that rank him higher than Eric hosmer this year and his year two of eight of air 'cause Moore's contract. So yeah, it was it was certainly disappointing season. No question. I think some of us hold out hope that you know, if you look at his career, he seems to be an odd and even numbered year. Awesome player. I don't know if that's an actual predictive trait or if that's just a happenstance of randomness in baseball. But I think, you know, there are certainly some fans that that believe that there's a chance that he still makes good on the contract. I think the odds are pretty low, unfortunately. But yeah, I mean like you said, it's still. It's still not that much money. I think you know, Potter's vans. Just we've never listened the team spent too much. And so we look at thirteen million dollars in two thousand twenty three and gasped. But there are players in baseball. That will be earning of words of thirty million dollars at year. So in context is not quite so horrible. But there's no question that we were quite as appointed with air Cozma in anti bet, you if you got, you know, ownership candidly to speak about it. They would they would agree with that too. That it was a not a great season. And honestly, I don't see the first base defense that Orioles fans talked about like just watching them. And obviously, I'm just one person and not a professional scout or anything, but I didn't see anything there. They made me believe that the analytics that we've developed over a long period of time is magically incorrect for only Eric hosmer. But again on his cout, all David I come from San Diego. I hand being a longtime. Mariners fan I saw both sides of the rivalry. And I always kind of felt like the two teams were joined at the. Hip in terms of the the misery that just laid upon their fans. And so I don't know it's who's going to have a more promising season into a nineteen. It looks like it's likely to be the Padres. But at the moment, we have two teams still in the middle of a rebuild. So as always the Piedras and manager racing for another playoff berth. And in the meantime, we thank you very much for coming onto being available. Appreciate it. And we wish our natural rivals a strong season, regardless we like to root for the Mariners. I think a little bit. But just because they're not the keys in results. It's easier to for the Mariners because they're yeah, they're endearing well after we finished recording the reds did indeed get their man. Sonny gray went from the keys to the reds for second base prospect shed long and the competitive balance round pick Yenkey also sent Raver send Martine enable starting pitcher to Cincinnati and the reds then extended gray for three years and a total of thirty point five million dollars that will take him through twenty twenty two he's already under contract through twenty nineteen. And then, of course, Jerry DiPoto got involved me. Traded for shit long from the Yankees in exchange for center field prospect Jeff stores Mariners second round pick last year. So, hey, it's a Mariners trade to everything's Mariners trade if Mariners fans are interested.

So hopefully, we'll have him in just a moment from fan sided dot com to talk some football. Just a quickie on the sunny gray story. Mike McCann, send me little piece on that. And it's really a strange situation. And I know we look at major league baseball players all the money they make and feel sorry for them. You don't feel sorry for them. Most of the time. It's really hard to feel a lot of empathy saying, well, you know, what? You know, the sun will rise the next day, and you still have ten million dollars in your pocket. But in sunny Gray's case, you know, he says I have not had any contact with the Yankees. And I just want to go somewhere where I'm wanted. And it's so clear that the Yankees don't want sunny, great, Brian Cashman has said this perhaps his kindly as he could in. Well, you know, we think you'll be better off somewhere else someplace that fits him better than us and all of that. So it's very clear. They don't want him. And he's sitting there going. Okay. Well, I'm still with this team. And in less than a month. I've got to report to training camp. And the Yankees have made it very clear. Well, you know, like the dump your salary and all that kind of stuff and yet. You know, when you look at Sonny, gray, and you go. Okay. Well, he had a winning record. But his ERA was high. And you know, he couldn't win the big game for you. And the. Sunny grades not just New York it on sunny grain, New York. And yet, you know despite how great the Yankee bullpen looks that. There will come times when you're starting pitching is going to break down injury. And we're talking about the knee and a hard situation and Tanaka and the elbow and on and on and on and on the second half from Severino. So you don't really know and to keep Sonny gray around as an insurance policy. There are worse things that could happen. I understand. He's taken up a roster spot, and you might have to take somebody in the bullpen that you'd rather keep and use Sonny gray as an outlet. And you can't send him down at AAA or anything like that. So the likelihood is he will be traded. And I think in the reds case the team interested in him. They just going to wait him out. They just going to say, okay Yankees will give you a couple of guys threads don't really want prospects. The Yankees are holding out for more. But it's like when push comes to shove the Yankees to say. Well, all right. We gotta take what we can get for this guy. We'll another team jump in will another team say Sonny gray and our team. Maybe in the National League wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. It's just amazing that a pitcher with his resume is down to what have you done for me lately? And that's pretty much the case. Okay. We've got Jason coal from fan sided dot com. Jason welcome in. How you doing? I'm great. Caller earlier, but. Now. Okay. Well, we got you now. Okay. Well, let's talk about the first game. You know? The Rams ran the ball. Ran the ball. Ran the ball last week expect the same thing this week or do you think a different tack? That would try because you want to try and silence by cloud as much as possible. Without southern Rankin. To run the ball. Control the clock. I would also say the other thing is. Five or six weeks? So you're not going with this game's going. I know. How to score twenty four. In this game. I can score twenty two twenty three and a half a shot at it. And that's the different mentality going into it. The first one to play with forty five thirty five. Shoot out. Critical plate Johnny vaca. Almost got it replay willing to time cost. When you gave the championship. People tend not to throw costs. And you get a much more conservative style game. So I would say this one this one is more incident. Trying to run it control. It. And you also have to look at the saints injuries. You you know, you mentioned. Great defensive lineman. But you've got a wide receiver and Kirkwood who's hurt Watson a tight end. And even though they will play you look at that offense of line. And those guys are pretty beat up. Yeah. This is what say the saints. This is not the same thing. That we saw the first ten eleven Susan. Dallas. Dallas. Exposed. With the same offense. Keep them under control. I don't know. I think that. Because they've got to lead back, and they don't do that markets. Levers famously remembers Aram. Went up. Back in. To throw out after the game. Which? We got to think of that. Scooters head a little bit. And one of the reasons why hasn't had a great year. But I would just say that. What you're looking at the saints knowing. I think I keep them to seventeen twenty twenty three twenty four points. I don't have to worry about sports four and five again. That's interesting because you know, you've got teams in both games that it played each other earlier in the season. And you're you're basically saying that shootout that happened earlier is not going to happen again. Now. I think. Yeah. This one. I mean, you're looking at that. And you're going, okay. What did they learn? And is it useful in the sense that as you say the saints offense, isn't what it was back when they played the first time, right? I think that they've learned. Gotta be much more physically with Michael Thomasson. That. I think they hard lesson about Michael Thomas. The player. Player. The best receiver. So. I think people say, okay, you can't treat him. Get out. That's what keeps expected be following promise wherever they go. And then I expect from time to time. What? Jonathan watson. You don't have with. The best of the rest of line. So because. The player. Don't let Michael Thomas. I can't I can't allow that. All the time and just running up. I gotta get down. And the Rams have been so effective with play action this year, and I would think after last week even more. So in the you know, Anderson was a guy, you know, girlies banged up. What are they got? And you saw what Anderson said last week, even though he's a different kind of runner. It adds an extra dimension. Yeah. Innocence. Runner on. Flavor. Richard. I dunno. Yeah. Who the Portland young? Run downhill, and he's tackle part. Gives them a sort of physical presence. The girlie girlie doesn't always wanna just run through people. Happened. So. That I think is a nice counterbalance to work early. Offense and changes. And how. Get when they get in. For job. Now, obviously just not the past. How about that? Is really special. Did. Complimentary backs. So it sounds like you're like in the Rams in this one. Did a little bit four point one way or the other with the Rams aren't perfect struggles. I think that the crowd. Big factor. Quiet crowd. I name a little bit. When it took this out that again that that had to apply because it didn't work. I think gave the crowd of kind of woke up the crack excitement, and obviously the saints. Right right afterwards. Game. Got back into into Turkey, and because son likes to standing up thirty thirty five years now. The defense department. That. Feedback. Loops of the crowd noise down from upstairs. That's not going to happen time. Harder for the offense function. And the fact that they don't have. Watt in large part. And that's favorite sort of outlet target start to break down. Sam I'm thinking is you're saying crowd noise. There's going to have to be a technology one of these days with noise canceling crowd noise where you can hear your quarterback, right? You can hear the frequency that your specific quarterback speaks and yet cancel out the rest of the crowd noise. That's probably coming in the not too distant. To work on that. A great combination. But yeah. Knows factor this weekend. Okay. Let's look quickly at the Kansas City New England game, obviously, they played shootout. Forty two forty you expect a lot of scoring. Yeah. I don't think. Sounds when cancer. Playing man coverage buying apply. More courage than than the chargers. Surprised? How much? But I still think that when you play against the patriots, especially when gronkowski is. Don't don't go out much more. So I don't expect about that whole. Scam defensively. That artists patriots won't have to prepare. I liked the name by a lot of liked. Thirty four hundred twenty one to twenty seven. Lynch. Bill bell. Check. Choice between coaching team or. Take. I think he would probably take the chiefs. Now, I mean just based on talent even with the quarterback difference. Yeah. You've got brave men recite team. How? That was awesome. Coach defense. In houston. Berry. The back end. Skipper this without feeling injury. Mm. Chiefs on talent. Has been very aggressive plan. Jason we're out of time. But thank you so much for spending a few minutes with us. And I agree. I like the Rams I like the Kansas City Chiefs, and we'll see how shakes out tomorrow. Probably so Jason call from fan cited dot com, and yeah, I mean, this is the thing. I can't say how many games have gone into the playoffs in. Here's what we expect to happen. Here's the game plan we expect to coach to to Paul in a run the ball. You're going to do this. You're going to do that. And they come out. They do something totally different. They do not reflect the first game that they played earlier in the season at all. It's like two totally different teams out there. And I guess the messages expect the unexpected Eddie c Mets next. We got our W twos from work, and it was kind of shocking..

I will go visit produced hopefully in the spy gate crew cats. I liked the pads. I do can't believe somehow some way I'm going to go from that to Sonny gray. But maybe not. Protector to a Cup. It could be. Yeah. That could be the gras. Yeah. There was a piece to resist on together something special emphasis on this. Right. There you go. Jon Heyman reports that the giants are in on the study gray sweepstakes. So Sonny gray all the fuss. He listen people are excited because it would be it would be far hun. Finally, doing something. Right. So, but the question is my only thought is like, oh, really what can you trade in a really what can he train and this gets back to what kind far has said to us in coded language is have you seen? My forty men. Have you seen my bloated contracts in no trade clauses? And have you seen my farm system? Again, probably have you seen my bloated contracts. And no trade clauses. Once again, we missed twice now on that. Paulie that's twice as on me, though. This is my try it again, probably have you seen my bloated contracts. And no trade clauses. Yeah. Thank you. Have you seen my lack of bullets in the farm system? Have you seen my no pieces in the rotation to trade? You go. Thank you. Sorry, bobby. So anyway, they said the Yankees are working hard to trade this guy, and we've had all sorts of reaction this morning. Lot of people saying trade belt, which is kind of silly, right? Because you only get centigrade for one year. Brandon belt. I know the belt armies namely belt to get the speaking of which you got to get to that smoothie because he did do a Baldinger did their smoothie thing. But you're not gonna trade Brandon bell for a one year of sunny, gray. But what would you trade? What would you trade? We've we've sort of settled on a Tony Watson. But then again if somebody has pointed out the Yankees bullpen is as stacked as anybody's. They would just be adding I mean, they say that amount of vino yesterday. So now, they're going. They're going aroldis Chapman. Delon Batanes is adamant Avino more more guys up again written Britain. Thank you. Forget it. I mean for them do they even want to any what are the Yankees want? What are they need like Christmas when you possibly want their first basements, Luke voice? Is that the guy they really want him? I knew he had some big knocks in the postseason. But so anyway, it's intriguing and it shows you again though that. Just because show you like people they go to what they're comfortable with so far Han picks up Pat van de because he had him in the dodgers system. For Hans interested in sunny, gray. He had him with the Oakland as you know. So it's like you kinda just you gotta gravitate to your your your comfort zone. I know sunny, let's bring him in, you know. So I I was thinking again I wanted to be dazzled by the three way trades the MIT diploma and all that. But I do have sympathy for his lack of his lack of flexibility, given those contracts with Joe panic it moved. I don't know they're pretty they're doing pretty well in the infield Miguel Andrew Torres and and in lieu, sir, Didi gregorius, right? Well, DVD's out with Tommy John, which is why they went and they got too low, and they went and got digital good knowledge. That's good stuff. He said the same thing that the Cory Seager at he's back to by the way. No Machado, Cory Seager for the next decade. And don't forget for untold has talked to us about winning the inner west, which to me was you know, maybe a little grandiose to four weeks says why would the Yankees wanna trade grey? Well, I think because have you guys seen the I mean endless and lot of people have talked about this. Yeah. But it's worth revisiting his his performance at Yankee Stadium was horrific like like like mind blowing Lee bad Ziara was almost seven six point nine six. His whip was one point nine oh in Yankee Stadium. You get out of Yankee Stadium. He's nasty. Well, there it is there that that's all you really need to know. It's not that the kid can't pitch. It's just that his whole thing was not the right fit for New York. And it got. That's a huge part of it Murphy's. Got. He got off on the wrong foot with a couple of losses. And then it got worse and worse and worse and the fan for beating them up like he would come out to start the game. And the fans will be born. I'm already before the first inning. So I'm just saying I really focus on the road numbers. Because that told me like it's not like forgotten how to patriots hurt. He just can't do it in Yankee Stadium where his his own fans have turned against on the road. His era was three point one seven whip was one point one five. I mean, it couldn't get any more dramatical again he can pitch the kid can still do it just not at. It's just the wrong to LA thrown Bumgarner gray in Holland, dude. I'll take Rodriguez. Okay. You know what? Yes. Now, you've got four starters and is coming onto this. Now, you always wanted one. Are you going to trade? Yeah. What what what I are looking at the giants in my big theme of today, which is grab a sandwich and go look at the forty man, so Brian Cashman grabbed sandwich. And he went and looked at the forty man. And he's like, you gotta be you. Gotta be kidding me. Bobby, you gotta be kidding me. At this other teams. The other teams, and it makes her the as the bruise the Braves Mariners the Padres Morad sell those teams probably giants. How about the as it with the as are desperate for starters? The as are desperate for starters. So that's why they're, but listen, I think we're excited because it's something that's true. Something isn't that a twenty nine year old kid in a hoodie sh- walking around with a stack of computer papers, which is the other acquisition? Not a kid showing up wearing the wrong baseball pants either. Like the wrong color. That's Michael Beasley LA Lakers. You're wearing the wrong shorts mortgage. Pretty good sells it beautifully. So anyway, guys eight away Kamiar if you do actually I should say, we're going daily dosing Gary client, nine fifty. You can always Texas four one five eight km. Bury your thoughts on a possible city gay trade, and what could the giants theoretically trade? I mean if the Yankees would take Tony Watson to add to their bullpen. That'd be amazing. Do they want something as robust as a Will Smith forty one years Sonny gray something if I do that? If I'm the giants because he only getting centigrade for one year, and you got Will Smith at a cheap. You got Will Smith under club control for awhile. Yeah. Right. At least he just did arbitration. Let's see copes. I'll tell you when we'll spend the engineer the end of his arbitration years. He does let's see here. We'll Smith here. Not not we'll Smith Spacek right there. I'll look it up for you. Right now, buddy. I got a bad gateway on the last time. I looked up. I hate to see that five. Oh, two bad gateway. He will be a free agent next year. "Notice. John Hayman Yankees are working hard now on a trade for Sonny gray appears to be getting more serious teams involved include the reds, the brewers the Padres the Braves the Mariners the A's and the giants Sam right? That's funny gray coming to the gyros former break seriously too much action. No, but sunny, grace former pitching coach is the giants pitching coach Kurt young. So maybe that has a little something to do with it the Yankees supposedly wanted big big a big hall and high ask for sunny grace. I don't know if they if this would include a Bumgarner involved, or if it would not involve Bumgarner, but I wouldn't mind seeing sunny great. I really believe that Sonny gray is like Kenny Rogers and Ed Whitson before him. He is a road warrior and happens in New York City. Some guys can't handle the Bronx. Some guys can't handle Wallace math using their face asking a million questions. Some people can't handle Jack curry from the New York Times saying what the hell. Very still love. Yes. He is some people can't handle New York City. And if you look at Sonny gray you'd like an eight point in the Bronx, and he had like a three three two or something like that on the road. So he's good just got to get him out of New York, you reuniting with C Y and good things will happen Kurt young there. Yeah. By the way, you're proud of my daughter, I tell you. Well, the I every day I'd say to I went back there and just took on the big city. Absolutely. She's not loud. Yeah. Yeah. That know she's got on the quiet side. And she just went back to New York. Did you see Mel kiper got his I mock draft out. He's got Nick posts are going one-dayers on. All right. He says the Niners are going to go with the Kentucky defensive end, Josh Allen, number two. All right. And he has the raiders going with greedy Williams the corner at LSU with the fourth pick overall interesting though on this on this. He's got the New York Giants. You know, possibly going with a quarterback. And you know, the giants and the Jaguars looking for a quarterback. You're the Niners. Maybe you trade back with the New York Giants or it could six maybe del Beckham junior year, if you couldn't get if you couldn't get, you know, Antonio Brown or you feel like he was too old or whatever whose quarterback on that board Dwayne Haskins twain Haskins going six overall to the New York Giants, and would you move. If you're the Niners from two to six let the giants get up for twain Haskins who is a jersey guy wants to play for the giants. And then maybe get Odell Beckham junior for moving back to six. A okay nice guy. I like that a lot Cuyler Murray. He has at thirteen overall going to the Miami Dolphins. Okay. But interesting heck if Jacksonville wanted to trade up, and they'll give you Jalen Ramsey. I would do that in a heartbeat. I'd move back with Jacksonville for. Jalen Ramsey had moved back with the New York. Giants Frodo Beckham. All right. We'll see all that's interesting. But lot lot to happen between now and April when you have Marcus Thompson waiting. Thank you could hear Marcus for three hours. Hey, can I say something in a very nice way? Go ahead. You're going to be in here in twenty minutes. Why don't you come in and face, Larry? And I you hiding behind a phone line. Okay. All right. Okay. Okay. Hey, how many minutes your projection for DeMarcus cousins tomorrow night? Fifteen okay. I guess I had him play in half. No, no way. Seven you saying seven. Twenty four. Half the game. I gary. Unaware? He's coming off and ruptured a left to kill a ruptured. Listen I hadn't played a little bit play five six minutes. First quarter, five or six minutes each quarter. That's all. Yeah. Believing demarcus. I think they're gonna start them. And then they're gonna try and with that second unit. But it's he's gonna be winded. Like injury aside. He's going to be windy other play professional basketball for a year. So and then that's presume and everything is well with his achilles. So twenty four feels like a lot you'll get a couple of Spence. If he does play this one in every quarter, it might be four minutes instead of six all right? But he they wouldn't put him on the floor. You said depends on his achilles. They wouldn't dare risk him unless they thought he was one hundred percent, correct. I would I would agree with that. I don't think they would. Well, one hundred percent steel takes you like a year after you get on the court. So it may not be a matter of my hurt again. But what's his mobility? Like what happens when he signed a cut or plant or bully somebody does he have the strength. Like all that is going to be an issue. Joe's direct to consumer years. Even though he was back in the year. So with achilles different like that. Yeah. No. It's it's in the surgery has been perfected. So there's that factor which kinda muddles things in muddies things a little bit more. We really don't know what to expect. Hey, what did you think of cousins comments saying that the warriors are the most hated team in sports? Do you really believe that they're even approaching the most hated teams? Oh, yeah. I don't think that's without question outside of the bay area. People can't stand the warrior success. They can't stand. Kevin durant? People don't even like Steph curry, and why would you like curry? I mean, I hate to sound like a little whiny Homer here. But I mean, there's a guy whenever you see a microphone in front of me conducts himself like you're like, you know, your next door. Neighbor is a very nice guy. We just hate him. Because he's so good. I mean, that's part of it. You know, while while the dancing and celebrating is like entertaining for you like, it's probably hard to watch the guy until you're right and strutting. So I've Magid it don't look that good. If you're rooting against him for him to be shimmy on you. Then you start making it out to be more to what it is. All he's classes, Cleveland, Cleveland, Cleveland, they were complaining about him pooping on the courts or what they thought he was. But it was somebody maybe a New York or somewhere. Boston wrote a column about Steph is the most is the most classless guy in sports. What's like why? Yeah. That's when he was like in front of the other teams bench. Right. That one. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Paying for mosquito? Nets fairly people in third world countries. I mean, what the hell we talking about here. And it's nuts hard. What's your team? What he's your for forty eight. I mean, seriously talk about people don't know, this don't know the narrative. Hey, let me ask you about Kirk occurred. Just you know, he just has had so many great lines recently the one last night, though, I'm more of a w m sour YMCA director. Then a coach say Scherzer's skins, and I roll the balls out there. I mean, he's so humble any so easy to like. But let me ask you, what do you think the, you know, his he where does he impact this team? The most is it is it over the course of the season is setting the tone from the beginning is it is a complaint off time is a conference finals time, where do you think he really makes his biggest impact on this team? I definitely think in the playoffs. He he does allow them to be them. Right. And people. I believe in them and trust them. He puts them at spots where everybody else is like. I don't know I out there. Right. And he has a way of kind of believing in the end of the bitch. So come playoff time. But seems to always work out that guy that everybody was higher watching ends up hitting the big shot or bake the big play. I mean when that long ago, we were a write off kevon looney right as a bus and look at him. Now, he's integral I think how he approaches them as men and understanding that they are the real kind of like engine to this whole thing. It just gives them the liberty to be who they are. Right. And like he doesn't even tell the to stop screaming at the refs. Everybody in this. It's an everybody says complaints too much, and he's like, yeah. We need that fire. Right that because the other guys a quiet. He just knows how to value each individual. And I think that pays dividends especially when you meet adversity in the playoffs. Let me ask you point blank question. Both rosters have the same talent. And this is all of course, it comes up because harden just on this role. Who would you pick harden are Steph curry for your team? Steph curry without question. It's not even close and that, and that's if you all had the same equal amount of talent, equal amount of talent equal books to you've written a book with staff in a book with harden. Oh, I love to write a book on art. He's very right about the either an interesting guy. But I just feel like James harden is is one of those guys like I'm gonna play my way. And it's incredible. But even though it's shown to not really work in the times where you need it to work the most he's still a change. So if you just if you just take the ball out of his hands, you just double team metropolis to say all right, James. We're not letting you should step back three. What's his next move? We've seen staff have another moose, right? We've seen him. Go off the ball and hurt you a different way we've seen we've seen other players play with him. And and elevate their game because of the attention either all see uses gravity James harden. If he ain't got the ball in his hand. Would it be really doing for you? So I haven't seen that counter that's gonna matter in the Western Conference finals in the NBA finals. And I think that's the one limitations was game. But I've seen Steph do it. So I'm gonna go with the guy. Who I know can adjust and be more than just a guy who can make longshots greet them by this at this is what we're seeing with harden is the greatest explosion ever buy a smaller player in history. And I say smaller from a guard. I think it's up there. I I don't care what people say about how many shots he's getting all the shots. He's one and the whole offenses him. So that's gonna lead to more opportunity to do this. But I think if you gave every NBA player in the league the same offense the exact same opportunities shots at green light. They're not doing this like Kenya. Name five due to will be able to do it. Like, you can't everybody can't do Kimball. Walker has bat in Charlotte. He's not doing this Damian Lillard has it kinda in Portland, he could probably get close. But he hasn't done. This is not that easy to average forty over twelve gay. That's tough to do you actually have to make shots. So I think what he's doing is incredible. And I don't think we've seen much like this before. But with that said, he he is a fishing right now, and he has the kind of opportunity. Most players don't get which is hey, take every shot you want. There's no such thing as a bad shot and don't even be worried about your teammates gets out. He didn't even have to think about that. We're talking to Marcus Thompson on the the athletic athletic senior columnist on the guest line a little bit about Golden State ever down seventeen last night. And they ran off in one at one forty seven one forty and they take on the clips tomorrow night at the staple center and DeMarcus cousins makes his return. You know, the guy who right now who I think's just I I love watching him great game. Last night was dream on green seventeen point six boards, fourteen assists, which was phenomenal. And I just saw the number over the last five games. He's got fifty one assists and six turnovers. He's playing at a pretty high level right now who do you think is a green? Or is it somebody else on that this team that you think is going to benefit the most from cousins hitting the court. I'm gonna say hurry. I think that that pick and roll the one five picket role that we see with bogut that we see with Damian Joel's javale McGee. He's never had a guy you could do this with if you switch to pick it roll you. Now have a guard on boogie cousins. Like, why would you do that? So I think Steph is going to be the biggest beneficiary because now it makes them that much harder to guard Klay Klay. We'll be good too. Because if you got a big man who can score inside. It collapses the paint. And it opens up the kick out, but I'm gonna go with Steph because man, I can't wait to see that picket role. And how teams defended maybe they maybe they just put a big man on staff prepare for the switch it instead of just won't call for the bigger role and take the big man like, I don't know how they're going to defend this way. What did you make of Kyrie's apology, or at least it's being reporters apology? Call to LeBron. Or was that just basically to let the younger Celtics. No, hey, follow my lead. I'm admitting. I was wrong with LeBron. No, I think you I think it was more. At least when I read it felt more like Kyrie was like like all of us will be grow up, and we start dealing with our old kids. We're like mad. I used to be like that. That that used to be I really act that way. I think reality hit him a little bit. He was like, wait a second. They're acting the same way. I was thinking the same way. I was and being put in a position to be a leader and a veteran and OG I think he really saw like I was out of pocket, and I might have really killed a dynasty in the process..
"sonny gray" Discussed on The Short Porch
"Honestly, like, do you get the sense that there's not as many teams as Cashman like, you know, lead onto believes that are in on Sunday eleven teens think he'd be gone by. Now, the fact that they've held onto him unless they're just trying to wait out the pitching market and have him be the last guy that could be the only thing. But I don't I trace guy way. I don't wanna see. I think it's the latter. I think that they want a team to be desperate for Sonny gray. Because I mean, there are other pictures on the market. But I think if it gets down to where he's one of the few remaining, I mean, he'll look a lot prettier at the bar when there's nobody else ending their next to them. And that's one you'll get more more desperate team. My words sunny, great will go somewhere and when like fourteen fifty. The. All of that on the standing just one of those guys that didn't have the chutzpah, and you know, the intestinal fortitude pitcher New York crazy to agents such a good when he pitched in a playoff game against Lander on the Oakland like the all the eyeballs run him any dominated sling. Where's that it just went away? Terrible. They were they were throwing some names from a walkie 'cause Milwaukee seems to be the leader in the clubhouse for him. And since he's kind of died off and they were throwing like some some not there. There's some people that we'd have to attach more Shitsu like Aggie lar-, which would be cool if I face holy shit. But like the Milwaukee has some pieces that can definitely work for us in some. It's it's a shame. They don't have scope scope went somewhere else. Right. We're talking Skoko. For the setting up to being all time backdoor cover with Washington in Ohio State, this whole timer. Twenty eight three and you're on the floor. For y'all line. I mean, I need the kick the fill all this. This is this is six. This sick. I mean, fellas doing about this from it at this game was twenty eight to three Ohio State twenty big inning the fourth and about tobacco others. It's amazing. How big the loan? It was like five. Third down to find all player to air, which is and it just to a flag. I mean. This. I mean, this is why this way gets sick this. Why I have Osita I need not for the over. That's kinda dead scope went to Minnesota. I in the land is somewhere. But yeah, I guess you Tom's right. Like, they're they're waiting it out waiting at the the pitching market, and then he'll be pretty skirl in the room left Elba. Amil be ready player. That'd be pretty pretty wild turnarounds of say. But yeah, now, we're pretty much just wait and see mode. Refresh Twitter about every three seconds. And and pray. We get some news. Oh, the Twitter question. I put out a some people. It's funny responsive what they would pay for like, Manny Machado, just be guaranteed signing. Someone said Jimmy Murray said I'd give up my first born in my Chinese Bryce, Harper jersey for at least him or Machado. I respect that just give I go if you could eat if you could tell me I guarantee they ton paying many Machado, but his penny universe. I pay five hundred dollars. To just guarantee that signing like I just want to happen. I pay five dollars. You can go in the thin air embrace Harper to if you tell me we're getting Bryce in many I'd up two thousand dollars I pay a thousand dollars against both. If you don't if you don't pay that mean, they're not coming. It's just what we all. Right. We're stuck in limbo where John and I'm not paying a lot because I think he's coming. So maybe I'll give fifty bucks to secure Machado by get like a thousand secure, Arthur. Yes. Like, Bryce Hopper's like the ultimate fuck you like the we are the deaths are like fuck everybody else. I will say the boys the only way they're ending up la- Machado in hopper is if they take Stanton and trade them to the dodgers, which could happen while three dollars gas, which could happen than fact. That's that is in play. I mean, the reason that could also be reason why the dodgers trade all these. I mean, it's not being Tom. We left the like they need. A righty bet kinda works for me..
