"Not good. I'm curious where we stand here. Last we talked, and we did it. Some weeks ago we mentioned Suarez working out of short. He looks to be the guy at short now. Yes. Yeah, I definitely think he's their guy there and the same thing with Jonathan India's second base. I think that's gonna be your middle of your starting infield. Um, you know, I think when they made the move, they're pretty confident that this is what they were gonna end up doing. They just want to make sure you know, he made the obvious place been embarrassed himself out there, which he hasn't done it. I mean, he's not gonna be a standout defender who's range is limited. But, um, you know that that's kind of what they signed up for, so they know what they're getting, and I think when they made the movement Is that they had already made the decision. And there has that this is what was the most likely outcome. What with the short side when it comes to India is the defense, right? I mean, that's really sort of the question. Not just up the middle, but maybe in general with his team. Votto, of course, back from the cove in 19 Protocol situation, and so on. He even made a delusion to this In conversation I heard earlier on Ken Bruce Shell, talking about the fact that he's trying to figure out you know, get better defensively in that short season last year was none too happy with his performance there. Yeah, Infield defense is, I think the biggest concern of this day I just defense overall, you know, they have guys like Sonny Gray and Luis Castillo. They excel in getting a ground ball. There's also getting strikeout. But then he moved down balls that they'll start in tow, either an extra hitter, too. And any I mean that that's gonna lead to more runs them in just over the course of the season, So I do think that's a concern tonight. But you know, sores and set back defensively, it short stuff and what they would have had Housewives. But you know when stocks is back in his natural position that third Jonathan India, uh you know, I think he's working his only the stock. This was a second. There's probably enough grade there and then. You know Bottle had a disappointing defensive end of last year. But if you get backed where he's been, he's been a gold glove finalist before that, you know it was just last year, just like you're dropping the ball a lot. Well, maybe clean that up. We shouldn't we be able to make the average place, I'd say. So now. How long any idea on what it's gonna take for him to be ready to actually start and be where he needs to be, because I mean, he was seen to be hit and pretty well early in the spring. And then, of course going away. I mean, that's a tough thing to to sort of step back into, especially in the colder weather up north. Yeah, I thought he was doing great in early Early March. You know, late February, the beginning camp started spring training games. Swing look fantastic, but he's away from the complex or two weeks and it takes time to build up. That's the big question mark and no one's really given a firm timeline. You know, I think they're just taking it one day at a time he played Five innings, two games in a row. He's off today so he could still be need back into it. I see it more as a 50 50 thing, and Joey says, you know if he goes to David Bell and three days and says, I'm ready, I don't think he's gonna be out of the lineup. I think that's his call, and he said, You know, he doesn't want to be a injury wrist. He doesn't wanna hurt the lineup if you use back, eh, so I think it's It's touch and go. I mean, it depends on how he feels at the plate. Ellie feels defensively offensively, but if he misses opening day, I would expect him back in the first week of the season anyway. Bobby, nine Killed Junior is a beat writer for the Enquirer following those Reds with sterling on the Big one. What about next sends out? How long is he expected to be outgrowing strain just even saying it, let alone reading it. I start to get sympathy pain, but that's a tough thing to come back from especially doing what he does. What does that look like for him? What do we know? Yeah. Reggie, don't think it's serious and I don't know. If everything goes well in terms of his rehab today will be back in the lineup tomorrow, so it's not a huge concern. But this with him and his injury history and everything's kind of gone through. It's just one of those things where You know, right before opening day, it's kind of bad timing for him because he's been having a good camp. I mean, I've talked to scouts would say a fence approach is better. It looks really good in center field when you found me, but like, he said, growing trains there You know those things they could linger for a while, so hopefully he's back in the lineup tomorrow and ready for opening day, Liam All indications are not too serious. Today's lineup looks like wanker and left Castellanos and right. Miss Takis at third, Suarez it short night Quinn and center Stevenson behind the plate Farmer at First India It's second and a half men of the mountains. Uh, plugging in that lineup, at least those starting eight. Obviously, we know about Votto and a couple other things going on there. How is this compared to say, an average everyday lineup starting and in depth issues. Do you think Yeah. I mean, I think you know this is a lineup. I think they go with civilian bottle ready for the start of the season. Um, you kind of the stage where this is your destiny out your starting lineup. Offensively, I mean, they should be able to head I mean, they. Obviously that was a big weakness last year, but not out of the playoff, the lowest batting average in the league last year, but a lot of guys looking on better. I mean, we talked the hitting coach Alan's enter today and he just mentioned Some of these guys they're coming in with chips on their shoulders. They're so determined, you know, disappointed with last year disappointed with the way it went, like McAfee Honest has had a great camp. Jesse Wankers homered in his last two games. S so I mean, there's there's optimism in terms of they should be able to hit a lot better. But there's so many injuries and camp just minor injuries, especially Uh, what about who's gonna be on the team? You dropped out there. So so many injuries the spring you said, And then you disappeared. All right. Just so many minor injuries that spring that way. Don't know who exactly is gonna fill that opening day roster, but I think his optimism in terms of being able to hit better at least so what? It changes. What surprises do you think in the next couple of days or we pretty much set here, Looking ahead. I mean, you got starters, as far as pitching is concerned. Where are we? And what cause I mean, there's always sometimes those last minute moves that you kind of scratch your ankle while I didn't expect that. Yeah. I mean, I think we found out that some of them already. I mean, I think the strains Gordon getting cut and release was a little surprising to me knowing Ramirez and they leave when it did not end up in the right place..
Antone brings heat in push for Cincinnati Reds' rotation
"Reds played tonight and three hours against the kansas city. Royals perhaps not with these same amount of excitement as the night before her. Green and nikola delo pitched tj anton in relief last night against the dodgers and again that ended with a four four tie. I will admit to you. I get the purpose behind the rule that a team on defense can roll the inning over and basically ended prematurely as a fan. That's not much fun. Tony larussa has said as much. Tony larussa and i are on the same page about anything. That's saying something but above and beyond the outcome of the game which obviously doesn't matter. Tj antone pitch last night and he was phenomenal two innings. His fastball was ninety. Seven ninety eight ninety nine killer slider filthy curve five strikeouts two innings gave up. Just a hit. This is a guy who was a bit of a revelation. Last year made his major league debut with the reds early in the season started. Four games came in and relief and nine others and did a really really nice job. Here's david bell on what he liked from. Tj last night looks very lockton. Yeah maybe could've been the best basketball. I've seen include. Let's santa law so good last year. But his fastball of really good is everyone which means it just locked in a totally kind of grown accustomed to tj being very focused and determined so even those beverly in the spring doesn't surprise me at perching david bell last night talking about t j anto. I don't wanna make too much out of one. Spring training outing the didn't count. There is a lot of foolishness and doing that. But he is a part of a mix of guys who will ultimately answer one of the critical questions about the reds this spring. Which is who's gonna make up the back into the rotation right and even if he doesn't end up as a starter he could be a valuable member of a bullpen. that said goodbye to two quality. Relievers this offseason and rice laziest and archie bradley. But what role will tj antone bien after a good two thousand twenty. Here he is and what role he would like to be. Yeah i wanna start but wherever those. Tv's all right. Good short concise. It's the right answer. You don't get the sense just listening to that that he's going to be upset if he's not a starting pitcher but that is what he's been for most of his professional career one hundred and eleven appearances in the minor leagues one hundred and nine as a starter with different levels of success. I don't think there was anything about just looking. At his minor league statistical profile that would have suggested that he would emerge last. Year is valuable arm but he was. Era to eighty again pitched started four games when needed member wade. Miley had to miss some time. Sonny gray mr starr disc- he came out of the bullpen. Nine times and did a nice job. He'd really did a nice job last year. So now the question is does he factor into the mix a little bit more in the race to be the last starter.

"If I could be Mr Happy for a second, and I know you could almost argue. My brother not argue this point. You'd almost argue. The most important thing that happened tonight was that Sonny Gray came out of it to this point. Feeling good. Hopefully he wakes up tomorrow morning. Feeling good. Just think of it. In those terms. They lined up their hammers last night tonight Tomorrow. Sonny Gray had not pitched in 12 days, 12 days coming off a back injury had been battered in his previous two games, had pitched four innings in his last two starts giving up 11 runs. I know I watched the first encounter, holding my breath saying, How's he gonna feel? And as he said, that first batter Fastball up in away got him to chase. He felt good. The original plan is David Bell said was 65 pitches He got 2 80 Sonny Gray gave him 80 pitches tonight, five innings, two hits, one run. He struck out eight and walked one. You could very well argue the most significant thing to come out of tonight. Despite the loss is that Sonny Gray feels good. Now, among other things. It is one thing and I tweeted this earlier. It's one thing to be feeble at the plate against the likes of Devon Williams and Josh Hater. Most of baseball, especially Williams is feeble against those who it's like the chase. The Chase is on. It's like the 90 nasty boys. When you play the Brewers, the Chase is on to get the lead because you don't want to be trailing by the seventh inning. If you're trailing in the seventh, your host And the rights were host tonight. Seven. Williams's nasty I mean, nasty, so it is no great shock. You came away with nothing. Tueni's against Williams and one in against hater. The problem is, you can't be feeble against Brett Anderson. No disrespect to Brett Anderson. But you can't in a game of this significant certainly. Face six innings of Brett Anderson and score two runs one of those earned you just can't And yet they did. Two other questions. I have two things that come to mind. I wonder if they're questions that come to your mind. Um one. If a mere Garrett And boy, I've said this before I just had. I just felt deja vu if a mere Garrett was going to pitch in the eighth inning. Why couldn't he have come in in the seventh facing the lefty, so guard with the game tied at two Instead and tone pitch to the lefty. So guard who doubled I'd argue that was a single an error on on Aquino. But you get what you get with Reds official scores and that was three too, and that was the ballgame. Did anybody else wonder that mean Garrett pitch last night? So I would I wasn't like front guessing because I didn't know his availability. I have no idea how he felt or what they were thinking. But If they went to him in the eighth. My first thought was well, Wait a minute. You're going to him in the eighth and you're losing. Why didn't you go to him in the seventh when it was tied to face the left hander and then my other thought was Nixon's Ella's in in reality in extended spring training for the Reds right now. And yet the raids are in the middle of a playoff chase. Nixon's L Over for tonight is one for 18 since he's come back. And the the rights have a guy who's their best hitter in September in showgirl Akiyama, who didn't start tonight. And didn't pinch it tonight. To think two questions that came to mind for me. I'm going to turn it over to you. And after the top of the R we're going to get after this for two solid hours. You ready? 513749 7100 Big £1.700 On T losing night for the Reds three to the final we discuss after your news. It's Kelsey Chevrolet..
Reds, Pirates games postponed as Cincinnati player tests positive for COVID-19
"This is sports talk later for Lance Encounters for 700 wlw. By the way. Hope you had a great weekend. As of right now, we are expecting the Reds to take on the Kansas City Royals tomorrow night. In Kansas City. That'll be an 805 1st pitch. We go on the air, with the Arnell carriers inside pitch at 705 Luis Castillo is said to get the ball against Brad Keller. Trevor Bauer is now scheduled to pitch on Wednesday, followed up by Sonny Gray. In the first game of a four game series against the Cardinals in ST Louis on Thursday, this after the weekend that was lost after Friday night raids beat the Pittsburgh Pirates and then a couple of hours after the game. We find out that a player tested positive. For covert 19. Saturday's game postponed Sunday's game postponed Ah, couple of things worth pointing out here. Seafront Rosecrans, who, by the way, covers the Reds for the athletic And doesn't awesome job. I've tweeted out a link to a piece that I think will guide you through everything happening with this team right now. But since Saturday, every Reds player has tested at least three times. The players were tested. Saturday, Sunday morning and this morning. Pittsburgh Pirates. Players were also tested in Cincinnati before they flew to Pittsburgh last night. Um As of now. Based on reporting from a couple of it from people who are close to this. There's only been one positive test on the Reds, and it was the player who found out that he was testing positive work over 19 on Friday night. That player has since tested positive again. But as of now and again, there's the latest round of testing results that they have to get. No other Reds player has tested positive. The Reds have yet to fly to Kansas City. They are supposed to fly to Casey tomorrow if they're cleared to play. The player who tested positive would have to be placed on the injured list. Somebody's going to have to be brought up to take his place. The The Pirates will be here in mid September, September 14th to the 16th so there is ample time to make up. Two games They missed right now. The Reds have 40 games remaining. There are 41 days between now and September, the 27th which is the end of the regular season, and so obviously they're not playing today They're going to play 40 games and 40 days to get to 60. They already have a double header scheduled Against the Cubs next weekend. But there is not only a Pittsburgh trip to Cincinnati, but the Reds also going PNC Park and so you can make up one of the games there if you have to. But as of now, The plan is to play. Tomorrow night against the Royals. Again. All of this is very, very fluid. As we've seen with the Cardinals as we've seen with the Miami Marlins, the good news is again. After the one player tested positive with that result being released. On Friday. Reportedly. No other Reds player has subsequently tested positive and also know Pittsburgh Pirates player As of right now 6 26 on Monday night, no other Pirates player Has tested positive. So there you go, Uh 513749 7800 The big £1.700 free call AT and T. Jerry is calling from Claremont County. Hi, Jerry. Jerry. Hope something happens. Jerry. Your wine? Yeah, sure. Go. Oh, well. A little question here if one Holding him and nobody there. Miles is okay. But they prayed about because they have to get tests back from the other players to ensure that there not also testing positive. Woman get their pink. Ooh, they did that. And so there are awaiting the latest the Siri's of results and they hope to play tomorrow. The Pirates also hope to play tomorrow. Yeah, this time, noting the Reds go to Kansas City before they do that they need to get to clear And for that to happen, they want to ensure there is no other players testing positive. Your city's okay. Well, yeah. I mean, the players are routinely testing positive testing, which is why we found out that a player tested positive on Friday night. Yes. Okay. Okay. Is that all right with you? Yeah. No. There was just a bad weekend without baseball. Yeah, Wass, I I don't I can't disagree with that. Ana would do anything about it. I wanna thank you very much. Thank you. Ok, thanks. Have a good evening. You you you do the same. The Miami Marlins. You may recall after the first weekend of the year they were in Philadelphia, and then again, they had a game scheduled against the Phillies. And on Sunday morning. They found out that a number of players on that team had tested positive for Cove in 19 And instead of baseball, swooping in and stopping the Marlins from playing. Instead, the players were allowed to vote. Whether or not they play now, I'm not sure why that would ever be the case. But that's that was the plan. That was the plan baseball let the Miami Marlins players vote via text by the way. On whether or not they want to play. They did play the game that day in Philadelphia, and then As it turned out that they had close to 20 members of their traveling party. The majority were players, obviously not all of them. The majority of players that a bunch of guys in there traveling party test positive for cocaine, 19 And then it took them forever to get back on the field where baseball is trying to do. Is prevented outbreak now. It is worth wondering. This. Today is the 17th of August regular season baseball ends on September the 27th. Obviously, everybody has off days built in, so there's time if you've got to miss a couple of days. What I do kind of wonder, though. Well, I think baseball has done the right thing here and frankly, I think they did the right thing with the ST Louis Cardinals. October. When we have 16 teams in the playoffs. And we're trying to squeeze a lot of Siri's in a very tight window. And ensure that the season the post season is over before we really get to cold weather in November. What's gonna happen when we have a situation with the team in the playoffs like the one that popped up for the Reds on Friday night? Positive test and now we're not going to play for a couple of days. Not playing for a couple of days in the regular season is really not that big a deal. Not playing for a couple of days in the postseason. Could have a significant short and long term impact. More on that coming up in the seven o'clock hour at Mohagher, 15. 30 is by how you can hit me up on Twitter. One of the best players in college football is has started a petition. Sonny Gray went six innings, allowing a run on three hits and Fan nine. He picked up career strikeout number 1000 in the fifth inning. Yvonne Nova will go up against Luis Castillo and Game two of the series Tonight.
Winners and losers of the 2019 MLB trade deadline
"We'll talk a little bit more about what happened with the trade last night so I'm too teams in the Cincinnati Reds and the the New York Mets who are not really in contention in their respective divisions either the the Cincinnati Reds a little bit better off I think in terms of whether or not they think they can make a push towards the playoffs now they're in fourth place eight games out of their division with both the brewers and the cubs sitting right in front of them of course are in the center the got the cardinals up there as well so three teams between them in the top right he Pittsburgh Pirates who were team that was in the mix and Josh fell on an absolute tear at the beginning of the season I had I had sort of put them back into contention made them feel like a maybe the pirates were involved that was the one division baseball we looked up and down you said I don't know who's gonna win this thing clearly the cubs are a favorite we got five teams here could come out and do some damage you take a look at the the wild card standings now the Reds not looking so hot there six and a half games out but they do have one of the best rotations in all of baseball specifically in all of the National League now they could be doing something here and they've got this they've got this general manager Nick crawled not Nick Kroll not the comedian not that the dude from from the fantasy football shows that show called blanking on the name of that show it we came here if you can remember the name of that show that was a fun one the on assets was it was like the it might be just pop on Intel to me did the league the league dude phenomenal show the league I blanked on management off there for a couple years Nick Kroll of course rocks in on the league Nick Kroll the general manager of the Cincinnati Reds thank you and I'll be back bright arsenic crawl was promoted from the president of baseball lobster like the admin assistant to the general manager a couple years back for the ranch it ever since he's taking over as GM of the Reds he's been competitive and I think that's all you can ask for from a general manager number last offseason when nobody was making trades nobody was signing players and he was out here we want to do one for mac camp yes you'll pull weeds Alex would he was out here saying we're going to be a competitive team went out to get Sonny gray from the New York Yankees so this is a guy who's been aggressive now I'm liking that because two of the players that were traded in two of the top line pitchers in Marcus Stroman and then introvert our that were treated because they both have a year of team control beyond this year they've set themselves up now to try to be competitive this offseason and be competitive in the next year and the Reds well we've got a deficiency in offense they were not going to get anything for Yasiel per week he was a free agent the end of this year he was gonna leave more than likely again I'll see what I said when they traded for him yes simply doesn't scream Cincinnati to me he's not a guy why I look and I think man that died that day both with the Cincinnati Reds role about now barely like plan there any like fighting for because if you miss this last night we've got plenty of audio for you on the other side the Reds in the pirates got into a brawl and this was in a a match Muncie Madison Bumgarner I'm gonna bark at you is around the bases type stuff all this was an actual brawl and the the irony in all this is the brawl goes down like within two or three minutes of us finding out the yes yep week has been moved from the Cincinnati Reds to the Cleveland Indians after not familiar with what the trade is the went down Trevor Bauer of the Indians one of their front line starters how the Indians by the way also feel like air and they're right in the middle of their division known as well sit behind the the minister twins but Cleveland Indians right now are two games up in at number one wild card spot if you go when you look at the division they still got a chance to go and win their division three back to the Minnesota Twins so they traded one of their best pitcher Jim Trevor Bauer with again a year of team control beyond this season but they feel like they're getting Danny Salazar back they also feel like they're getting Corey Kluber back who have been throwing on the side cells are may be activated as early as later this week so Indians feel like they've got reinforcements they also filled two major holes to major deficiencies in their line up and that's that they went out they got friend know ray is from the the of the San Diego Padres to was rumors that poppers were looking to move either him or hunter Renfroe I think if you look around for was more of a a better corner outfielder and you've got a talent friend arrays who's really a designated hitter I so he's I mean he's got a slot right into a DH spot there in Cleveland and the Indians also make a cross state trade the three team deal that sends Yasiel Puig now are to the to the Cleveland Indians so it is I think I won this deal you get friend rants redid young power hitting designated hitter who you're gonna put your line it probably for the next decade or so you would hope you got pulley gal who's got playoff experience Tuesday he fighter who's the guy who gets under other teams getting he's been plants a pretty damn good baseball of late and you give up Trevor Bauer Trevor Bauer now goes to the Cincinnati Reds sort of a weird deal there the pod reason have given up login what login Allen was a back in young starter for them and they give up friend raises we mention the Cincinnati Reds though this is a peculiar one they give up their number one prospect in their organization now he had a down season is in Taylor Trammell but they do believe this guy projects to be a major leader in the next couple years I don't think he's played beyond double eight people on the tax line already I too and I'd say in my head hurt trying to figure out what the hell the potters are thinking with that trade I'll tell you what I think the Padres are thinking with that trade I think the thinking they're not done they know was sent to guard this offseason may still be a trade piece that the that the New York Mets are looking to move maybe they'll be looking to move Marcus Stroman there will be moves made this offseason but now the Padres which are already pretty stacked minor league system have set themselves up to go out making other moves and out and bring some pieces in that will help them be a competitive team I'm all about teams were not totally in the mix yet who are not totally competitive yet setting themselves up for future seasons and I think that's what we're seeing with the Padres a little bit more clearly than what we see with both the Reds and the Mets the Reds and the Mets in acquiring the two front line starters that were available that we knew were available have kind of thrown this whole buyer seller thing

"The brewers Sonny gray on amount for your Cincinnati Reds the rents are five and a half games out of first place four and a half out of a wild card but there is something like eight teams between the Reds in that second wild card spot so the it's interesting so ESPN did a story today on its website and I'm reading it right now about playoff pop all hoops who's in who's out and they break it down on different things like looking like locks in the Dodgers are in that category the Astros the Yankees the twins the Braves they like the rays chances right now seventy seven and a half percent ESPN says then the cubs nationals red Sox brewers and and and such still it they list the Indians the Rockies the Phillies the cardinals the athletics the Padres the diamond backs in the Rangers and then in a category not out of it but hope Sir slam the Mets the pirates the angels and the white Sox and your Cincinnati Reds so they're not love did with teams like the blue jays in the mariners in the giants in the Marlins and teams like that they are right there in the category of not out of it but hopes are slim then grabs which is a great website I love fan graphs each day they update playoff possibilities and right now your Reds at thirty nine and forty four fourth place in the National League central division with Yasiel Puig in his parole X. with Joey Votto when is charging numbers with low res Louise because steel and his all star credentials the Cincinnati Reds according to fangraphs have a chance of nine point two percent of making the playoffs so again I think it's great with the Reds are doing I think it is going to be a very interesting a weeks maybe told a half at most three weeks at most to see whether or not the Reds are really in this thing and if they'll make a charge from a roster in trade standpoint to try to make something happen but right now the stats would tell you that it would not be prudent for the Reds to do anything in terms of a player acquisition another compatible games like last night it might be different standing but a way and this is Jim on his cell you want to talk about the home run derby and Ryan Braun you go right ahead Jim thanks again with the home run derby and how you said it affected so many different players and you mentioned are geared to orders from the red dot Hamilton yes the thing is we didn't win that competition like a million month that first round and warm self out what it was no no it was more of a commentary of what happened players in the home run derby but yes he did I forget how many he had it rounds one or two but it was it was it a Nordic number you basically warm self out now I knew I could never doubt if you're in the first place no no no it's it's so it's legitimate and we cited players that were in it like Adam duvall and and fracture that read that well that wanted here a couple of years ago but it just seems like anybody that participates in that and has any kind of success at least the second half of that season is a struggle for them and so in some cases they just disappear completely it is in our heart yeah so where it works buddy thanks for the phone call no no I well if you'll recall in that home run derby that Hamilton participated in the man he was traded for Edinson Volquez went to the all star game that year to and there was something that was really kind of funny before that last night it was before the last round Volquez brought a briefcase out that was allegedly full of money just put a down home plate you just stole Hamilton here you take it you got it but no I I I think the home run derby is more exciting than the game I think I think that I was the I think inter interleague play he has created that I think the fact that every game for every team is available to you on television now the mystique of what the American leg is all about that existed here in Cincinnati up until about nineteen seventy five maybe whatever they want to more than just one national game a week on NBC I think the mistake is gone make it is that is it this is the meeting was game played in the middle of the summer but the home run derby has really liven things for the weekend it really has I I get everything is personal taste personal preference I just think the home run derby to me at least is just more appealing than watching the baseball all star game it's coming up on two o'clock time for the news on newsradio seven hundred W. "Up third base line. He went after it picked it up and made a good throw. The farmer was called safe. And the giants are not going to challenge to be a wild pitch. Still only one out here in the bottom of the third. Do you know the cow to Sonny gray fastball for a strike? Here is a ball outside with another fastball. It's three and one we'll beat. He's got a bear down here and figure out a way to throw a strike. It's the pitcher at the plate. If he loses gray, I think he may become an out of his game three and one. Barnard? Ondeck pitch is low for ball four. That tells you all you need to know Bruce bocce coming out. Very very disappointing. I'm sure Tyler media came out of the gates firing and looked like he was ready to have a great night. And in the end, it is a disastrous night for the young giants right hander. Who's made a lot of progress has pitched rate in the minor leagues. Just did not get done here tonight against the reds eight nothing Cincinnati to on still only one out Jansen making a change when it's time for a change things. "Scoreboard already done today. The rivalry cubs. And cardinals the cubs win. This one Kyle Hendricks goes and shutout. The cardinals for zip later on twins at Yankees raise at Orioles. The nationals in Phillies in Phillies, of course, Bryce Harper against his former team roles in Detroit to take on the Tigers Mariners go east to take on the Indians in Cleveland. The Braves are in Florida take on the Marlins. The Blue Jays in Texas to take on the Rangers range the Red Sox and White Sox from Chicago Mets and brewers in Milwaukee. And a couple of games in the NFL west Diamondbacks and Rockies in Colorado and the dodgers and the Padres. So that's what the school board looks like tonight. And again Tyler Beatty will make two thousand nineteen debut after fine one point nine nine era in Sacramento as far as the lineup is concerned tonight for the giants against the Cincinnati Reds. Former? And Yankee Sonny gray will go to the mount he's only four but not bad three point six four era. He's had some bad luck against Beatty. Joe panics gonna lead off and play. Second base mentioned my Gerber. He's going to be in left field. Again. If you missed it Gerber three fifty seven batting average and one five seven Opie s so he's been good. He's in the two holes. The giants continue to look for offense. Buster Posey's been hot hits well in that Parkinson's Inada he's in the three hole. Brandon belt's gonna play first base hitting four. Evan longoria. Play third base. He's hitting in the five whole Brennan Crawford. Still trying to snap out of that slump easing six and obviously playing short Kim implores hitting seven and he's in center field. "As curb both be that that breaking pitch the earned those seven strikeouts. But this really felt like the star where everything was coming together. And it was a three run Homer by by AJ. Pollock that. Really? Oh, it was so frustrating to see because he was really cruising through a good team. I mean, we have the Marlins and the pirates before, but this was him inside of LA Elliott blue. I believe it's called is that right dodger blue stadium. I don't remember Shiva's Rabin. What what are you talking about the stadium name? What what did they change the name of it? I think it's your surveys were being I've never still Dodger Stadium at chevette Ribaud. Okay. I want to say it's like Allie blue or something. I don't remember that. I might have missed a name change. Is well taken you know, he was cruising. I will say this. I'm almost heartened when someone's cruising like that. And it's one pitch. You know, it's it's. The two runners onto but it's like one bad pitch to AJ Pollick, which any takes it out of the yard. And there's your three runs but other than that. He Sonny gray was based on them. Yeah. He was cruising through that game. And really the question becomes all. Right. So if he's out on the wire ones like that was the Marlins got hurt on the wasn't picking up for the dodgers ace e this. And you think oh you're gonna fall off is not he gets the Braves next. And personally for me. I'm in. It wasn't the best locations of everything with with his fastball in his slider. But I think it's good enough. There's a lot of bite now on that side or fantastic. He got some terrible swings. Even against Eiji Pollock had a really nasty slider that earned us out of the zone. Well out of it. I'm in here. I think this is actually also safer. Then you think I think he's gone past his woes and against the Braves I'm in. I'm starting for that. I'm in his well. In fact, it's to start week. He opens the week they don't play Monday. So he's he's there. I started on Tuesday, sunny gray is with a to start home against Atlanta. And at Saint Louis, it'll be a good challenge to and if he comes out of this standing tall. I think you'll see his roster rate creep up into the nineties at that point because think everyone will be bought in. And you really won't see him all that available. You definitely want to jump on this week where available probably gonna see some ten teams. Maybe even some twelve team where sunny grades available right now on ESPN is at twenty four percent. So he should be available in your shell or leagues. Are. There's a chance you will be done..

How's it going? What is happening? Happy Friday to you, Paul. Thank you. Same to you. Good, sir. We're talking some pitching today, and I did release my new Espy rankings for those waiting for the the the ranking stock that's going to be next week. We will get all that situated we need more time than that. We're working on a little bit of a time budget today. So we are just going to dive in on a couple of of pitchers and stick with our routine. We did Nick Pavetti one last week. He subsequently been sent down quick thought on that you cutting him in all formats or is there anywhere where you're stashing. Nick panetta. I think he just got him. Honestly. Some time. And you just sit there with a waste bench spot for a while. Agreed especially mixers maybe an NL only because it's an only, but even then if I really came up against it and felt like oh my goodness. Maybe some I'm trying to think like who could be available that would even be maybe I cough his replacement. Right. You know, I would I would I would make that move and a cool thing. But I cough is that he's gonna get the Rockies first. So anyone that is hyped initially might not go. Well, but yes, we get those bids in this week on the cheap. I'm with you. We've expressed my conflict, but you in UNLV fast on on the pitch on the corner have even more so in the past counter year. So so I cough. We're intrigued by if it doesn't go so well with Colorado that's fine by in. It's colorado. Don't even worry about it don't even worry about. But that's not what we're talking about. Today. We're talking about Sonny gray and Luke Weaver to interesting starters to really kick off the. Season here they were in that in that stick middle tier? They had their their detractors. And they're believers really kind of separate in two camps for there were some folks that were kind of ambivalent about them. I think I use that word. I'm not entirely sure. But let's pretend I did. And so, you know, I don't know that anyone was like musket Sonny gray or never well actually.

"And Ireland fasttrack less than half hour away on ESPN LA. No, I'll never go. They are in the sixth inning now at dodgers stadium. Walker? Bueller thrown really well. So as Sonny gray for the reds, it's scoreless. As we go to the top of the centigrade. That's his third team in three years. Right. He's he's went around. He's Yankees reds now. Yep. All right. So the NBA playoffs are going on the biggest surprise so far in the playoffs. Is that the warriors lost to the clippers? They blew a thirty one point. Aren't you little surprised? Okay. So he's down to as quick as they are both games in Portland. Yeah. I'll be I'll be surprised if they go out with a whimper, I think Portland Damian Lillard sa- most underrated player in the league. Like people don't talk about. So underrated that everybody talks about. No. But like he's famous for being known as the most underrated player in the league. Maybe. But I mean, if you ask people name the the top guards in the league, they normally don't get to him until four or five and he's gonna. Be a lock for second team all NBA this year. But, you know, people talk about Ben Simmons before they talk about Damian Lillard, Damian Lillard is way better. And I think that Damian Lillard and C J McCollum have owned the Oklahoma City backward, and you managed that you can throw Paul George in there if you want right. So they we'll see if those guys show up in Oklahoma. But the biggest surprise was clippers beaten the words nobody I mean, you thought that'd be sweep I thought I'd be sweep. Yeah. And and maybe the weirdest thing is that Kevin Durant is being guarded. Kevin Durant is six eleven Michael says, he's seven feet tall. Michael six ten in St. Nick says Durant is seven feet tall. He's being guarded by six foot one inch Patrick Beverley, and nobody can understand how Beverly is shutting down Durant in in the game to Durant had nine turnovers and eight points. Yup. So Durant just talked. He was just asked about how Patrick Beverley. Is shutting him down. Here's Kevin Durant with the media moments ago at heart by watching. And if so what was your takeaway from the last game? You do very well we had a nice Florida game. You know, let's go back to whole last month of the season plan this way for a while. And we got to this series game. One has some nice moments but find a giving defense which been working top blocking everything on there. So not even looking at three point line. Just force the Gaza side three point mall. So for us when I get the ball bus bus. You know, I got a pest Patrick Beverley who was up underneath me, well, academically shoot over the top score every time if it's a one on one situation, but we gotta got jump in and help. And then we got another guy. That's sitting on the way for me to jiggle the basketball with the basketball on the floor. I you know, I could probably make forty three percent of my shots about shooting like that. But that's not really going to do nothing for us at the outcome of the game..

"I didn't have access to some of the information that I've already been exposed to so far this off season. I don't really care whether sunny gray is right or whether the Yankees are right, or whatever none of that matters to me. But this is a pitcher who had shown a pretty high level of performance at. A pretty young age. And then to kind of have it all sort of disintegrate and really bought him out with the Yankees at home. I just think this is a nice Bilo opportunity. I know they bought an extended him for a couple of years. So they're invested in sunny grace future now, but to me like the offense you guys hinted at a lot of those names Ginette vodka Soir as I mean, they've got they've got Kemp up and down to me the rotation is how this team is going to succeed or fail and sunny gray getting back to like the three five three seven five ERA type of guy like that's absolutely essential for this to work. And I think there's reason to be optimistic about it. Optimistic in regards to Sonny gray. I mean, I'm not on board with that. I'm not I'm not up to mystic because I mean, we we also have to consider that. He wasn't exactly red hot with Oakland before he went to the Yankees. Like, this is a guy that hasn't been ace caliber for a while. Now. What I liked to see him get back to a place where you know. He was also was twenty fourteen was probably one of his best seasons. Like that. Yeah. Sure. It'd be nice to see I, you know, this is a guy that I don't think is done or washed up, but the Yankees as much as he would like to try and make it seem that way or not the team that broke him Sony. Great baroque, sunny, great. It wasn't the Yankees being in the Bronx certainly didn't help and being forced to throw sliders. Didn't help tell you this..
Joey Votto, Padres And Sonny Gray discussed on Ken Broo
"Hour reds last night. What on the road played the Padres and lost sixty to pay no attention to preseason exhibition. Baseball a final scores. They mean little here's what I I watched this game last night. I was flipping around. I was watching this watch little Murray state game last night. Joey Votto gotta hit last night. But you could tell bottles not statistically having a great spring. But you can tell by looking at what he's doing that Bado is playing with things he's playing with his worry. How he grips the bat. He's play with his swaying. He's playing with his time between pitches. He's I never really worry about Joey Votto in the spring. I know we got off to that clunker a start a couple of years ago. But I know what he's doing. He knows what he's doing more important. The other thing that struck me about that game last night Sonny gray Saudi great two innings to hits strikes out three. No walks burst outing of the spring. You could not ask for anything better from Sonny gray goes to goes to which means next outing. You hope he goes three which means next outing. You hope he goes four, which means you hope he's ready by opening day thought he play pitched well Amir Garrett threw the ball. Well, now Garrett was a little little wild with someone who's pitches or a couple that were up one of the dirt. But he throws an inning of scoreless. Hitless baseball thought he threw the ball very well and even for his rough spring as he's had Cody read through well last night in any two strikeouts. No walks by far his best outing of the spring. So even though the final score read six to the guys that most probably will be in the mix for a spot. On the twenty five man roster. I thought acquitted themselves well from pitching standpoint and Matt Kemp Matt camp. This is a guy I continue to sail be shocked if he's on the opening day roster. But danged if he doesn't have another to hit game he ever effortless. Swing on a double but easily beat out the beat the throw in the second base to for three for Matt Kemp last night guy sitting three thirty eight on the spring. So honestly, not bad not bad

"To we have to sit here and watch Sonny gray again this year. How many chances as we trade for him? We bring him in. He doesn't do anything. Don't you? The cash is trying to get rid of them. Oh, no just. Yeah. For nothing. Just let him go. What's the point? The point is a Cashman wants to draft a top player. You're not going to get the top player. I'm telling you. He's going to be. Horrible. He's useless. Why would anyone want Sonny gray because he was good in Oakland one point because? Are you kidding me? He's a I'm telling you. He's gonna be successful. When he goes somewhere else. Oh. He's giving runs freaking Oriole then three innings. What did he do? When he's in Oakland wasn't either as home my. Wasn't. He the ace. Oh, my know Glen. Yeah. Clinton. He's going to go back to open. He's going to go back to some small market team. He'll be decent. He'll never be decent here. Because he just can't pitch a New York is he a pinch period. He's oh my God. Look look. Starts look at this starts. I'm a bring up his thought he was good in Oakland, small market, no pressure. Is he a fist if let me put it this way if Cashman can't get rid of them. What do you think he's going to be? You just going to be in the bullpen. You have to pitch them. Do. I think he's any good. No. He's a theft started. What else what else you gonna do with them? Put them in the bullpen. He's if Sonny gray had no value. He has value. Just nobody wants to give Caspian wants Cashman wants a number one top top prospect for sunny great. I know you think he stinks and he did not do. Well. By the if you read some of the scouting reports there's teams that like him. There's teams that likes him. Is he a fifth starter? Yes. But you're going to move him. He doesn't work here. I guarantee you he'll be in some small market team Cashman won't get what he wants for them. You take. What's the old saying give me a bucket of balls get him of here? But he'll be successful. And some losing tip sandiego. You watch. He's.

"So you're telling me that like little sisters of the poor on the NFL franchises or NBA franchise? No, no, I'm I don't even understand what that means. What I'm saying to you is that baseball itself being vast majority of white flags. Apple, we talk about MLB and we, you know, we talk about NBA and they have a minority owner and what have you, you hope that that would be the case when it comes to football or whatever that that hasn't existed in major league baseball. You talk about minorities being an elevated positions of management and decision-making positions and positions of power, and what have you that hasn't happened really what major league baseball. There's been sporadic instances when it's Kurt, but it has been something that has been an issue throughout its history. Everybody that knows anything about sports knows that baseball has been in a privileged position compared to the other sports for quite some time. There's no denying it all saying longer. It's been around wonder, and the country has changed drastically. You know, the country's Grassley from what it was. We all know that you know anything about history, right. Well, do you know anything about history because I'm giving you history, and I'm telling you about what's transpiring and I'm telling you how a lot of people look at the two major league baseball. I've even talked to you about how guys get in fights and all of that stuff and how they judge differently than other people are judged in different sports in different other sports. You're trying to tell me that has a lot to do with them being around longer. You're trying to tell me that baseball and the and the page in the folks participate in the sport of major league baseball are not judged differently than those outside the sports, whether it being football, basketball, specifically, you're going to sit here with a straight face, deny that. I just gave you an example. Perfect example has been Greg hardy. The first offense that he's ever had get suspended for half a year, like Roberta was soon did. So now we're both. We're talking about both non Caucasian people. Right. 'cause I don't like using terms that you re people by race or ethnicity. Okay. What you said before about either black or white? I find that kind of sense because child my my child was by racial, right? So so my child has has to, you know, no, no. Let me stop. Let me stop you right there. I meant no offense. And I certainly don't mean any offense to your child. Please don't think for one second that that's what I'm interpreting what I am saying is that when you are out in the streets when somebody looks at you, what do they see? That's all. I mean, like for example, this, this, this, this adage that goes around, like if you're driving and you get pulled over by police officer driving while black, say drive white drive in Bonn. Talion doesn't say drive while Spanich. I'm saying to you, people look at it that way. Those are the experiences that people have to go through because unfortunately, unfairly, you may never do that Joe, but a lot of people in this world just folks who they, what they see. That's just answer my question about Greg hardy versus Roberto when those are fairly recent thing. My point to you is this just because major league baseball steps in and they suspend somebody for half a season or Greg hardy gets to whatever I'm telling you that by and large throughout history, major league baseball has been coddled by the public by politicians by others in positions of power. That is a fact giving me a couple of instances where that did that did not occur, doesn't change my narrative. That's my answer. Ten years has major league baseball be called more than what I wasn't about to talk at there. And the story about show you called up how that works. Not an a story and your story, and now you're gonna know by the way ladies juggle. It's 'cause he hung up. Let's be clear about that. Something happening in the last ten years doesn't erase the privilege was that major league baseball has been for the previous eighty. Doesn't erase it. Even now if a fight broke out. Well, what we say they really gotta get it together. They wouldn't be called thugs and villains. You got guys that go on a male and because one of their teammates got hit or somebody didn't like the flipping of a bet or whatever somebody throwing a ninety mile up, ninety five per hour, fastball of somebody's head..

"A while i think he'd be great he's got a super friendly contract i dunno if tampa would want to trade him to that division the division part to me is a stopper their snell or archer any of those guys i mean the division inside the division makes it tough i think tampa is more concerned about that than toronto and i don't know why that would be just the impression that i get but it will be as i said i think it's important it'll be a good package for who whoever makes a deal with the yankees they're going to get back a lot to be excited about they're not going to get back a guarantee but let's face it most of the guarantees you think you're getting back are hindsight like verlinden hindsight guarantee he was ten and eight with a three point eight two when they when they traded for him look i mean i have to do is go online look at burland irs previous five years before they dealt him to houston he's thirty five making twenty eight million it was not an obvious deal to make they knew they needed help they thought it was worth the risk they were right the yankees del for sonny gray they were wrong burland is better than gray we know that but burland her was no more of a lock to be great then gray was as a lock to be lousy so we look at a lot of these deals with great twenty twenty hindsight at the time remember that they generally make sense for both teams deals are made when both teams can walk away happy about the deal and all i'm saying is whoever makes that deal with the yankees will be happy about what they got back and it may not be a great trade for the first month but for the next ten years it might be an awesome trade who's willing to step up and do that jodi staten island next on the fan jody i mean with what you said today i believe they wanna get a number one but as long as they don't have to drink deal razor handle date should never deal those guys right now okay i agree and i don't think they will joe i think that they the everyday players really valuable the starting pitcher is less valuable than he's ever been because they pitch fewer outs it's just a matter of math folks if you're starting pitcher gets eighteen outs you got nine more to get you know back in the day as we like to say you're starting pitcher if he was the graham or chris sale or severino would get twenty four outs sometimes twentyseven outs now they get eighteen nineteen outs you still even if you're good you still need to more guys you need a guy to fill between out nineteen and twenty four and then you gotta get twenty five twenty six and twenty seven also known as you're closer so the starting pitching value is down that's why yankee fans are right when they say hey don't go out of your way to overpay for average because we can do average with adam warren starting force you know we could go to a playoff game and pitch chad green the first three innings and then go to robertson and then go to two to batanes sus and then go to kane or whoever's hot at the time jonathan holder and finished with chapman if we had to wouldn't wanna do it in the regular season that every time like tampa's doing now but they could do that it's not crazy anymore so you don't wanna overpay for average you want to overpay if you have to overpay for twenty outs it a game not somebody will give you five innings of serviceable baseball they already have that whether they know it or not jerry brooklyn next on the fan i jerry hey chris my love your perspective on sports and let me say that there was a pretty insightful statement that yankee fans are not going to be happy to give up to get an ace status i've been a mets fan my whole life and a number one i understand what you just said about the value of starting pitches but degrom and syndergaard do not grow on trees and you know when you talk about pulling a starter out.

"And look after they did not win the resumption of the suspended game it was a nice win to get that one later on and again look only five innings sonny gray was solid they're they're really tell you they play some really unspectacular baseball at times and they are still winning games and that's what the most impressive aspect of the yankees is to me they all in we've read about this a little bit lately but we've talked about this last week again ahead of the curve that the yankees don't remotely feel as if they have been close to what they're capable of doing right and it doesn't remotely look as if they are close to doing what they are capable of doing and they sit here at what forty seven twenty two now or whatever it is twenty one and i'm just i'm blown away by what they have been able to do when you consider everything that has happened this season and when you consider what their rotation is and how well they've handled themselves when you have two guys out i mean now with tanaka out of the bullpen i don't think for a large part of this part of the season was performing at the level we expected it to look at him now okay he's been so good lately is at time now to maybe you know feed them an extra inning and see how it goes no but it's still june it's still early go.

"Worst player in baseball it's not even close so i personally saw an opportunity for sony gray and it's funny you look at the first two winnings he was kinda shaky chase peterson rocketed that line drive in sunny made a really good play on the comebacker glacier torres made a tremendous play against adam jones a derrick jeeter esque flip throw play on a ground ball up the middle and then he gives up that line drive laser being homerun to manny machado so even though it wasn't the worst first inning he didn't walk away from the first inning feeling very good then gives up the leadoff double d jonathan scope but i'll tell you right after that sonny gray was a different pitcher he gets a groundout against chris davis he gets the comebacker against manzini and even after hitting cisco with that pitch he gets the big strikeout of record and then he just goes to town he's pounding the strike zone he's never really falling behind hitters and sunny gray put together one of his better performances i know the royal game a few weeks ago is probably the best one he's put together and i get it the royals in the orioles a too awful baseball teams but you have to start somewhere and even when he went third time around the order he got through the sixth inning i thought there was a chance that aaron boone would let them come out for the seventh inning why not especially with all these games you have upcoming assuming they play today but i think it was a case of you know what he's ninety pitches he strikes out trombone ended why not plus when you've got a really good bullpen and in last night's case it was the green batanes chapman trifecta as opposed to david robertson why not but i'll tell you i think the most impressive staff from sonny gray last night with zero walks the fact that he came out and he pounded the strike zone it was a really encouraging performance by sonny gray now what you need from him is not only him to do it in back to back starts put him to do it against better teams i'm not sure when his next starts going to be i think a lot of it is going to have to do with the.

"But now you look at him as a guy that after luis severino and masahiro tanaka because sonny gray has struggled and i still am not convinced the mingo hormone is the second coming taken the place of jordan montgomery but cc is somebody who is now a very key component in this yankees team but you gotta be thrilled you gotta be excited if you're a yankee fan and if you're a baseball fan in general because i'll tell you what is a parent when you watch these teams play is that the rivalry is back if it went anywhere if you felt it went anywhere maybe it did maybe it didn't it always helps when the teams are good and you know that the yankees and red sox are certainly better clubs in major league baseball we'll get to more about them coming up but as promised my pleasure to welcome to the program the one and only keith hernandez who's got a book out titled i'm keith hernandez from little brown publishers it goes on sale next tuesday the fifteenth so you can order it anywhere where books are sold amazon and the like and he's nice enough to give us a couple of minutes here on the program keith it's dan grassi espn radio thanks for joining me how you doing i'm doing great thank you why now keep the right time for the book people that want me to do this for ten years and i just kind of put it off and it's a lot of work i miss a two and a half two year two and a half year project and if i'm gonna do not a biography i wanted to get more have more time in the booth away for the game looking at the game as a spectator not a player and then with all the drastic changes in the game are going on today i just felt it was more time that i needed to observe and the tell the time the time was right when i've seen you talk about the book heath you've referred to the time when you got to new york as being a finished product when you looked at your life your career and this book is more look back on how you became that finished product is that accurate.

"The other teams by a lot in this four game winning streak they've outscored the teams the blue jays and then the twins thirty six two six a lot of it's late a lot of its bullpen but it all counts thirty plus thirty in four games on the run side including ten to one home run differential meanwhile the pitchers well they've done their job six runs in one thousand nine hits nineteen hits in four games this is how you win baseball games you pitch well and you hit home runs it's you know they haven't had a lot of the threerun almers i used to like to say the three run homers win ballgames well if he hit four home runs in a game that's probably just as good actually better than a three on all right so while the acres have done that last a couple of days they've beat up on the twins who come in reeling and all of a sudden if you look around the yankees are right there with the best records mean boston got off the start but they've lost three in a row they're seventeen and five the keys have nine losses either the astros angels lot nine losses when their game has done the indians have nine losses the blue jays have eight and then the yankees have nine so i mean other than the outstanding start by the red sox the right there with the top team in this league right now and again still early the four game winning streak will help you out and push over five hundred the full term through the rotation now is what the is looking for that's when you can consider it a really effective streak and that full turn comes with sonny gray was the last geeky losing pitcher to take the mound tomorrow night as yankees try to take game three of.
