"In all of these kids that were around me, you know? Not kids. You know, a little bit older, but a lot of millennials. They knew every frigging word that weezer sang. Like they know this band. They were just, they were fantastic. They also did, they covered Nirvana. I know they did. Happy hour, right? I love that song. It's one of my favorite songs. Rivers kuma? No, yeah. His hair. Stevie Ray Vaughan on the stage high amusement. They played it. Have you ever listened to the words of that song? Now, and then my boss calls and I feel crushed like a 20 pound like a 20 ton weight, just like on Monty Python. That song, he has all these little references in there. That's a great song. I have to tell you. The band that went on before them was modest mouse who I've always been a quasi fan of theirs, the kind of quirky, they're a little bit like the pixies, but just kind of like interesting thoughtful lyrics and whatnot. You know, no frills like no uniforms or costumes or anything like that. There's a bunch of middle aged guys, a little bit overweight and whatnot that just like to come out and play music. And I was really impressed by them. Modest mouse. Oh, modest mouse, yeah. Yeah, they've been around for a while, yeah. Yeah, they have. And I was like, there it is. Band of the day. And then weezer came on and it was a holy man. Shit. Yeah. That was my old experience. Go on. Any of you guys that are listening out there. If you ever have an opportunity to see weezer, spend an afternoon listening to their catalog. You will have a blast. They are light and fun and competent in terms of their musicianship. It's intelligent music. It's really the lyrics are intelligent lyrics. He's a very good songwriter. Well, it was a bit of a homecoming for him, right? He's a Connecticut. He's from Connecticut, too. Yeah, but he graduated from Harvard University and he was playing literally in the shadows of where he went to school. That's well so did Tom Morello. He graduated from the office. So here's where things.

"60 $2 and 50 cents. See, I can add. I can do math in my head. But $62 50 cents is not a crazy amount for a lot of players, right? Like it's somewhat reasonable for pick four players. And that's giving them 5 by 5 by one by 5 or in this case 5 by one by 5 by 5 coverage. And obviously there's different ways to go about it. But to add in that fourth difficult leg where you might have to go four or 5 deep, it literally jumps the ticket cost up to $312 and 50 cents because it's 625 combinations. And so I would argue that there's a pretty big prohibitive cost to go from $60 to $300 for a lot of players. A lot of players, I would say a majority of players, 300 is on the north end of what they're willing to spend or lose in a day. I think it's way on the north end of that. Most folks are playing, you know, 5, ten, 15, 20 bucks a race max. And so you know, it's that much more difficult to hit that pick 5 for a lot of reasons. And I think when you add a 5th race that's not only an extra leg, but a tough leg like that first race was that's why you get a much bigger payout. The feature at aqueduct on Saturday, the Garland of rosa steaks, and I was so, so wrong. This race in terms of how I thought it could play out versus how it did, but I should say I was right on how it how it was right on how I thought the race would set up. It just didn't finish. I thought I thought city lady looked like very dangerous lone speed. I thought just Reddit was a really good long shot to come from off the pace. Both those happened for the first half of the race, but not so much the second. Let's take a listen back to John and brielle's call. Here is the garlic of roses. And they're off. It is Citi lady who goes out for the early lead. It is Sadie lady in front. Let me take this call runs in second song rivers on the outside and third call on mischief down at the rail and forth. Just read it as next day and 5th, star front far outside and the early trailer is glass ceiling in 7th. Sadie lady is the leader here by a length and a half. Song river up on the outside, second by ahead. Let me take this call down towards the rail and third the quarter one in 22 and one. It is Sadie lady, the leader here by a little more than a length. Let me take this call down at the rail in second, then comes song river star front on the extreme outside, call on mischief. His advancing now in between horses. And then at the back is a glass ceiling. As the field comes into the stretch, still Sadie lady there, the half 45 and three glass ceiling is gobbling up the slop on the outside. Here comes glass ceiling, who has now taken over the lead. Call on mischief has moved into second. Let me take this call and Sadie lady. Last ceiling with a less to first victory in the Garland of roses. So glass ceiling super impressive took to the slop and rallied from off the pace. They went Sadie lady. I thought, you know, could be dangerous on the lead, 5 and a half to one thought the price was all right and just got overwhelmed by him down the stretch in a glass ceiling, Dylan Davis, who continues to really do well lately. It seems like it seems. And I feel like I've said that for a while now. So maybe he's just doing maybe he's just good. But yeah, really, really nice effort from a glass ceiling, you know, has just gotten just been, you know, they claim for 40,000 back in the spring and as I talked about when we preview this race. You know, this horse was very solid before the claim and charm baker Charlie baker is a very like just one of those incredibly good New York trainers that's year and year out of very solid numbers kind of bar and obviously we talked about the success of Saratoga points toward that meet yada yada yada. But this horse in the Cantor Macy barnum actually is a kind of Machiavelli. But you know, was running high 80s low 90s bridge numbers was competing with that first level allowance. They finally drop in for acclaim. Charlie takes horse jumps up to pretty much that same allowance condition, run second, runs a low 90 number, runs an 81 in the start after like still takes a while to get through that first condition. In fact, took four starts. Finally got through it in pretty big fashion at Belmont and then last time and then the pumpkin pie ran very good behind lady rocket who we know came back in one and it just seems to be in good form right now. And a four year old horse has been around a little bit, but it just seems I mean and it's like I said, the move forward from a numbers standpoint like it's not it's not that much. Like it's not that big of a move forward, but just, you know, that extra little step sometimes at that higher level, it's the difference between winning and losing when they all can run. But really, really nice effort from glass ceiling to get the wind. Down at Gulfstream park, but he's down there in South Florida PETA yellow and Acacia back down at Gulfstream and love all the folks down there. Ron nicoletti, I always do my Nickelodeon impression whenever safi Joseph wins because he'll do it on the show and go. Mister safi Joseph junior so I always do that anytime so everyone's a race wherever I'm calling, which of course is pretty much only here at this point. But you know he's a mom with a Calder and stuff like that. But anyways, the feature, the mister prospector steaks. Let me get back to horse racing and not my run. Nicoletti impression. The mist prosper kind of the first big graded stakes race in the championship meet and obviously sets the tone here as we get into several pretty fun months of racing data Gulfstream, a lot of big Saturdays and looking forward to it..

"Every afternoon this weekend. That actually is not true. We're going to be on FS1 for America's day at the races on Saturday two to 6 Eastern Time, then back over to the normal spot on FS two Sunday from 1230 to 4 p.m. on the east coast. Once again, Bobby Newman, Dave Freeman, we've got a dozen races to look at this weekend. So we'll start in New York day where the featured race tomorrow is the $100,000 Garland of roses. Phillies and mayors spreading 6 furlongs on the main track and just a short field 7 of them entered into the race, and the favorite on the morning line is number two glass ceiling for Charlie baker and Dylan Davis. In glass ceiling was just phenomenal last time in the quicker side of the pumpkin pie, remember that was run in divisions back on Halloween and on the side that produced lady rocket who came back and was unbelievable last week and glass ceiling nearly beat lady rocket missed by only a head going 7 for a long cuts back to 6 furlongs in this one and is going to be a pretty significant favorite and I think rightfully. So the only other horse that I give serious consideration to is song river number 7. I am a big Cherie de vol fan. I think she does a great job. Second off a layoff coming off a victory at Churchill downs. She also won at the beginning of September at Saratoga and I think that song river is a really nice horse, but glass ceiling has proven a lot more at this point competing with lady rocket and Lake avenue and that class of horses and the pumpkin pie and glass ceiling is my choice. I don't disagree with either of those Phillies in the race. But both glass ceiling and song river have that my top selection doesn't have is consistency. They're both very consistent, whether they're winning or not, they're running good races almost every time they go to the track. You can't really say that for number 6 Sadie lady. And I'm going to put her on top because I'm convinced that she's a better mayor at aqueduct than she is at any other of the New York tracks. And it's not like she's can't run at Belmont and Saratoga. But she's got 5 wins from 8 career tries at aqueduct. Three wins from 13 other tries at non aqueduct racetrack. So I think that she's getting back to where she really wants to be. I think she's the speed of the speed. There is some other pace in the race, but I think she's the fastest of the fast. And if she puts together her good race, she definitely can contend with the likes of glass ceiling and song river. The only problem is that Sadie lady is not that consistent and you don't know when that real good race is going to come from her, but at 6 to one on the morning line and reunited with Kendra Carmouche, she was written her many, many times in her career. I'm going to take Sadie lady for the mild upset in the Garland of roses race 8 tomorrow on the aqueduct card. Let's head down south to Gulfstream park and their featured race tomorrow is the grade three mister prospector stakes, three year olds and up, spreading 7 furlongs on the main track. Nice field of 7 to go to post here. We heard it there in the intro, replay of last year's inaugural stakes at Tampa Bay downs and the very easy to recognize voice of former track announcer Richard grunder at Tampa Bay downs. Poppy's pride got the win that day. She was a win machine. During 2020, the 2021 season has not been the same for poppy's pride, and she went from being a Philly who looked like she'd be a major rather. He looked like going from being a gelding from being a major contender in this race to a horse that would be a huge upset if he got the job done. Favoritism, it's very tough to figure out who's going to be favored in this race, Dave. The morning line says number 5 Dennis moment two to one. Number four endorsed 5 to two. I could see the better's going either way. Well, I think when you handicapped this race, you have to make a decision on Dennis's moment. Is Dennis's moment a pretty significant piece of who he was as a juvenile when he won the Iroquois and went off as an even money favorite in the breeders cup juvenile or is he the horse that then ran only twice in 2020 and poorly in both of them or do we have a completely different horse in her hand that has come back this year ran second in an allowance optional claimer at Ellis park, ran up the track against endorsed in a stakes race at Churchill downs and then came back and ran well beating winners in an optional climber at keeneland. They were talking Dale Romans was about running this horse in the cigar mile last week, obviously that would be a very ambitious spot. That would be more of where you would think Dennis's moment was if he had continued the way he was running as a two year old. I just am unclear what to expect out of Dennis's moment whereas endorsed pretty steady kind of runs a solid speed figure every time. I think endorsed has been running against good horses at Churchill and quinlan and at Saratoga. And while endorsed is not a killer over 9 this year, he is good at Gulfstream park has hit the board in all three races, including a victory, and I'm most comfortable with endorsed in this race. I also think there's going to be some pace in here setting up endorsed nicely to kick down the stretch. I agree with everything you said there about endorsed. I'm going to put him on top as well. I like his races at Gulfstream. I like the pace scenario in the race, and I trust him. More than most in this. And certainly doesn't hurt that he retains Tyler gaffe Leone, who is going to be one of the top riders, if not the top writer at Gulfstream park this year. I know it's a little early in the meat to say it. But I think we can if Tyler gaff Leon rides at Gulfstream the entire meat with the absence of Jose Ortiz and I rad for the first 30 days and Joelle Rosario for most of the meeting. John Velasquez, for most of the meat, Tyler gaffe Leon is going to have a big chance at beating the leading writer this may be certainly going to be one of them no matter what. And I think endorse is going to get the right trip. The horse that I would be most afraid of is number two wind of change. The reason that I picked endorsed over wind of change is that I'm not a 100% sure wind of change likes Gulf Stream as much as he likes some other tracks around the country, but his good races are good enough to give him a chance..

"Racing podcast brought to you by twin spires. All right, big thanks to a scotch bureau James for joining us for the weekly Friday jury. Always good to talk with them and excited to look ahead to some of what's going on this weekend. I mentioned the Garland of roses and aqueduct and we'll start there because it's kind of an interesting race. My the first thing I noticed was I looked at the prime power numbers and it was like 5 of the 7 are right. I mean, within a point and a half of each other, so I thought, okay, I'm prime power is usually a pretty good indicator of morning line and you know just kind of final odd. It's just not always, but a lot of times. So then I look and the great David Eric on who does a great job at the morning line has glass ceiling. It's 6 to 5. And coming off a second place finish. Now, behind lady rocket, who we know came back in one with ease, just the other day. You know, ahead of Lake avenue who we know is a pretty decent runner and you know the horse comes in fine form. That was its first stakes try, really. I mean, they claimed this horse for 40,000 5 starts ago and Charlie bakers had her, you know, just kind of steadily getting better. It wasn't like this quick improvement ran second then fourth in a race that wasn't very good and then since then nice third really good win and then very nice second last time out in the stakes. Just seems to be on the upswing. So I get the favoritism and the race looks like I was trying to think because there is some speed in here, but it looks like Sadie lady is the main speed. She sticks to one in the morning line and she, you know, she's very good at aqueduct. She's 5 for 8. She's no seconds and no thirds. And this is the case with a lot of horses like this, right? Like it's when or it's not. And a lot of times if they get headed early, they finish off the board. Now, can a horse like this finish second or third of course? But it does seem like it's a little bit of a feast or famine kind of thing and I always think about this when people play exact as and box with a horse like this and I'm thinking this is the one you want to use either on top or not at all. Like I said, could they finish that picture? Somebody could nail them in the last jump or something, but I feel like this horse is literally run second once in 21 starts. 8 wins three thirds and then a lot of off the boards. And so, like I said, there is other speed. Song river to the outside has a little bit of good early speed for Sharia. Sharif Barnes had a great 2021, almost 20%. And this one comes over from church. I'm curious to see how the Churchill shippers do is they spread out because there's another one in here as well. Just read it for right hand, who I kinda like this horse was a real impressive maiden winter and aqueduct last year is two for three locally at aqueduct and the only loss was in the debut. And so and then came back and won the cicada stakes in March. But the first start back off the layoff at Churchill was in a, you know, an optional $100,000 race and 6 wide and ended up finishing third. Churchill's to me is not a track that you want to try to come rally from well off the pace and wide on, at least the main track, even though there was a pretty honest pace that day. I just think the second time off the layoff and with potentially a fair amount of speed. Like I said, Sadie lady could just slip away and you know and be gonzo. There's also the Chad Brown horse to talk about star front for jud Mott who was a wire to wire winner first time out and then last couple times didn't make the lead. And really kind of lost lengths in each of those next two starts. Including the pumpkin pie back on October the 31st. So, but was there two divisions of the pumpkin pie? There must have been. Because glass ceiling ran second in one of them and didn't run second in the pumpkin pie listed on this one. Yeah, it was the 6th race for that one and glass ceiling was the 8th race. I guess there was who knew there was two pumpkin pies. I guess we do now. But yeah, the star front one, it's funny because on optics they had this horse as potentially a pretty good closer. And I'm sorry, no, they did. No, I'm misreading it. They had just read it. That was the other reason. That was kind of the reason I went back to look at just Reddit, because I was like, oh, this horse is optics finishing, you know, should be good. And like I said, it made sense to me the horse didn't close that much. So at a big price, I think just read it is a little bit interesting in this race and it should be kind of back there with glass ceiling and they should kind of be around the same spot, I feel like early on and whoever can obviously kick the most if the leaders come back could be the more dangerous of the two. Over at Gulfstream park, beautiful Gulfstream park, the championship meet the claiming crowd, obviously the headline of the first weekend, but now we start getting into the greatest stakes races here over the next few weeks and months. And the mister prospector for the older runners, the second Gulf Stream start for Dennis moment. If you remember the fountain of youth, he had run so bad in the breeders cup juvenile, then he came back in the fountain of youth and just never ran a step was beating.

Yeah i look at the credits on the forty five year end. Diamond like neil diamond and my parents used to listen to neil diamond a lot. So i'm much more familiar with the kentucky woman of the neil diamond version and i listened to the deep purple version. And it was okay. It wasn't anything great. I think they had other songs. River deep mountain high. Was i like a little bit more. And i felt like that showed also the direction they were heading in as they were growing and growing as both songwriters and bands.
