Organs podcast and layered is like so inspiration all. You really cares about every single thing that goes into his body, but he was talking about this creamer that he does, and it's powdered Kramer in his coffee, and it's coconut milk. powdered. Tumor Eric. One of them has KAKAPO and he mixes that in his coffee every morning. And so it was like you know what I want to try this, but I want to I want it to be like real. Let me I. Don't mean real that like I I wanted to do it in my kitchen, so I ended a recording it and it became the biggest watched post that I've ever done. Lesson even skin care down it. It was on this creamer, and so what I did was I took. That can of coconut milk. And I put it in a jar. And I put a Garvey to heating spoons of to Merick, and you gotTa make sure you find a good to Merick because I tried it from like just like our local store, and then a friend of mine who you just met Jen. She's from New York she used to work for. Perfection and they have this tumor that is so yummy so I use that and then i. put the CA-. How in that and cinnamon? And I mixed it up in this jar, and so now in my coffee, due to he'd spoons of that for my for my Kramer. It is so delicious and so good for you because you get the fats from the coconut milk. You. Get the are tumor. Eric for Inflammation Heart Hell. I mean tumor is awesome for everything skin to. And then the cow is really good for you as well then cinnamon helps to. Stimulate blood flow. I mean. Cinnamon has so many so many health benefits that one of them I heard was that it cuts hunger. I I'm not doing well on the hunger parts or this this is this is definitely been a negative on my diet and my physical being because so many of my friends are losing way because they're like. Oh, I can workout and I. Can and I'm like I'll do it. It's cooking, eating and lane. It's not good. There'd be so loud in yourself. "To have you on. Whether you think we can extrapolate from where we were going before Cova Nineteen, and as you say as people rotating shift thinking. So what's happening off to this? People are talking for example with v-shape Bruce Asia where sort of bounces down bounces back up and then there's the. Other I've heard of the bath tub recession, which is when it goes really deep for a really long time which some Wall Street Gaza talks about the specifically with ECOMMERCE. Where do you see the big picture leading out a? At an august-september whenever this lockdowns or stay at home, whatever it is starts to wind down well. I'll start by saying that the graph. For Commerce for for most ECOMMERCE businesses that I would say one hundred percent of our clients. It doesn't look like a V. So far right, so you don't have the left side of the be says kind of number one. What you actually have is kind of chart it out through January February. All of a sudden you see the chart looking more like a hockey. Stick up into the right so I'll start with that with respect to how the bigger picture economy which is more of that the left side of the V is what we're doing now right now. We're in the middle of the left side of the. And what is the rest of the of the journey? Look like? Our view is that from a macro perspective. It isn't really so much a V. as what we would call almost like a backwards. Check mark if that makes sense, so we feel like what happens in the short run is the left side of the V is taller than the right side. And you go into I. I think we think we have a fairly dramatic bounce, but that bounce might be a fifty percent of the depths of the left side of the, and then you enter into. What we're GONNA call you know more of that recovery period and a lot of that, and what the shape of that is going to be is going to be driven by. A how long this sort of shutdown last because we've determined every week matters with this. It's not a scenario where you know a week is the same as three weeks is the same as six weeks but the longer it goes, the deeper the V will get, and I think the longer before you can even think of getting back to where we were before, but we think the initial rebound is pretty good. It's pretty sharp, but what we don't think gives it's GONNA be a one month full. Full Bounce back to where you were before in the bigger in the bigger economy, because there's a lot of destruction and damage being done right now to businesses and the consumer that's going to have to be dealt with over the next six to twelve months, and so a lot of that will be influenced by things like stimulus programs in how big those yeah, and how vision helpful, those actually are because What we've seen so far is while the US government and the Federal Reserve has died valiantly..

"Restaurants, and local stores have all been effectively shut off from economic activity now for going on well over month. The e commerce world has actually flourished during this during this time, and so you know it's always a unique topic to discuss I mean because you don't necessarily want to jump up and down on throat party while everyone is suffering around you, but the fax Kinda remain the facts. The facts are that lot of businesses who are online and who sell consumer goods, and not just essential consumer goods, a lot of non quote. Unquote, non essential companies are are doing really well also. What was happening is the online shopping is increasing very dramatic, have a number of clients that in the month of March and into early April. saw sales levels that were four by six times what they saw all fourth quarter two, thousand, nineteen I mean the shards on some of these are dramatic in the upward into the right direction, so with ecommerce it's become more of an inventory management exercise to fulfil the demands and obviously deal with some of the Amazon issues that have occurred where they started to limit the number of shipments for goods into their warehouses, and then also started to deprioritize non essential goods to customers as they were buying, but it became a scenario where a lot of. Businesses didn't have enough inventory to fulfill the demand in the last three or four weeks, and and that's been their problem much more so than not having any customers or not having any revenue, which is the case for a lot of other businesses that says it's a summary of the situation right now, so I guess we'll an interest me as to to move than from that because I, don't we sort of jumping ahead under that Chris mode discussed some of the more find points to this, but. For the macroeconomics perspective I know that your time and Wall Street is given a great sense for this, which is why we great to have you on. Coming to US live from the states won't be live by the time you listen to it, and they are experienced mea in other words, mergers and acquisition advisors for digitally native enterprises. That's even hard to safe folks. Welcome to the show. Thanks Michael. Thanks yeah same. Thank you so much. We got to Jason Somerville. I believe you're in north, Carolina is that right? That's right. You guys because like different language from most so-called business brokers. So that's something we're gonNA come onto in our next episode. We're going to talk about the difference between business brokers, as they tend to appear in the Amazon FDA space versus an adviser, and how you sell the private equity and. And all that good stuff, but first of all I think in this episode. We're going to talk about Kobe nineteen. We have to deal with it. It's on everyone's minds, and rightly so and in this episode I think we can address. What does it look like right now? Free Commerce, and how does it look the other side of that? Because I think it's not all doom and gloom, as far as I can tell from aw chats before this show verse I'd like to. How Not to Say Stupid Stuff When You're Stressed

"Guys. It's Friday so we're dropping bonus in this week we've got to. We've got a good one as many of you have experienced. Perhaps I'll just be myself. I've definitely experienced this. Sometimes you get stressed you say dump stuff And that has it's happening to me. Still even after having meditated for over a decade but in in Buddhism. There's a way to deal with this. They call it right speech or mindful speech and the Great Susan. Hiver a meditation teacher based in the Boston area has thought a lot about this. She's written a lot about this and she recently joined me for an episode of T. P. H. Live where we discussed this subject and took questions from the audience? Tv H live for the uninitiated. Is this show. We do on on weekdays three eastern Pacific where we do alive guided meditation for a few minutes and then we take questions from the audience. The session that you're about to hear was with me and and with Susan and we talk about rights beach and being mindful of your speech and she also guides the meditation in the beginning. By the way. You're going to hear my son. Alexander playing in the background Since was recorded Live we don't have a lot of control but what's going on in my apartment at the time and Yeah so if you're okay with that listen on here we go Susan Piper. Hey everybody welcome T. ph live live from my living room if you hear background noise that is my son. Alexander playing with toys in the background tried to talk him into going into his room but didn't work so the role with like good meditators Speaking of good meditators we've got A great teacher today. Susan Piper beaming in from some of Massachusetts. I think they pronounce it. You know if you're speaking the king's English you'll be Somerville locally at some level and Susan. Thanks for joining. Us really appreciate it. I'M SO GLAD TO BE HERE. Appreciate you having our. It's our pleasure You you were a hit last time so it really great to have you back again and I wanted to talk about the subject. Which is I mean incredibly Germain and relevant these days of speech you know how we communicate with other people that Buddhist McCall it right speech Why why in particular is on your mind? These days do something wrong. I I don't know how can avoid doing something wrong in this environment. It's this topic. Came to mind because it's crazy out there. Y'All are people saying all sorts of things. They're people getting in arguments because we're isolated from each other. All we have a speech you know. That's our sole means of communication. It's all happening in the ether. It's so easy to project onto and everybody's uncertain humanity tends not to wear uncertainty well and we WANNA make up explanations for why. This is happening why that's happening and and were isolated. So uncertainty plus isolation leads to some crazy stuff. I online and at home. So how does a muting myself while you're answering? Because it's getting Routing the backdrop here so how. How can meditation help us with our speech? Well that's a very good question and so I just the definition of right speech which is a classical definition mean. Nobody has to be a Buddhist obviously to practice any of this but the whole Buddhist Path. of liberation is called the eightfold path. Right view right intention right speech number three so it's way up there and write speeches no lying. No abusive speech know divisive speech and no idol speech or no gossip. So we're everybody's telling you know it's really hard to find anyone who's not lying even if you think you're not lying people are just spouting things they actually haven't verified. That counts ally. There's I mean I don't have to explain that there's abusive speech and there's divisive speech and then there's Got Gossiping so it's hard not to do those things because we're human beings we get scared and we get angry and what what is needed before we open. Our PILES IS SPACE. Just some little space and then we can have some agency over what comes out and meditation is the practice of creating that space over and over again with every breath get absorbed in your thoughts as you know. And then you see that and you let go to letting go is quite delightful because immediately. There's a space and in meditation. You come back to the breath but in life you could come back to the good intentions of your kind heart or you know the needs of the person in front of you or the truth of your feelings about without that space. There's just reflexive nonsense. Speaking for myself I was just GonNa say speaking for myself. I'm still doing a reflexive nonsense. hopefully a little bit less So so we've invoke meditation when we do a little bit and then we'll at and let me tell people who are watching live. I know a lot of you. Don't watch live but those are watching. Live if you could send questions on this issue in particular. That'd be great Send any questions you want. We'll probably GONNA give us in preference to relevant questions but even if they're irrelevant. Send away so Susan Myself and you WanNa take over left to thank you so I thank you for being willing to sit and rest your minds so meditation practice very simple. Take a comfortable seat which basically means sit up straight. Unless you don't feel well then lie down and relax meaning while you're sitting up straight. Soften soften the front body the belly the area around the heart the shoulders times of stress. It can feel like the shoulders are like all the time but you can just let them let everything roll off your back. The mouth is closed and the reason the mouth is closed and meditation is. Because you don't have to say anything and that is a delightful luxury so let all the muscles of speech relax throat the jaw the tongue and let the inclination to speak relax to and enjoy not having to prove anything justify question and notice that inside there actually is no one talking anyway so it is quiet and you can rest in that quiet

The Great Toilet Paper Shortage

The Great Toilet Paper Shortage

"The great toilet paper shortage. No I'm not talking about a toilet. Paper shortage caused by the corona virus. Won't get to that in a minute. I'm talking about the shortage of Nineteen seventy-three. This was a time of shortages. Many areas oil scares great economic. Stressors kept Americans on edge so when herald the FROLIC a Republican congressman at the time? Put out a press release warning the public about a possible and in no way imminent toilet paper shortage and night time comedian. Johnny Carson echoed the press release. Well put people on edge and I've got digs out quote from Johnny Carson. He's doing his stand up monologue. You know we've got all sorts of shortages these days but have you heard the latest. I'm not kidding I saw the papers. There's an acute shortage of of toilet paper and now that's an exact quote from Johnny Carson. At the time he had twenty million viewers the ground had already been laid for troop Hanoch amongst consumers carson simply ignited the spark for full blown madness. Millions of Americans across the country flooded local grocery and convenience stores. Totally wiping them clean of all toilet paper. One consumer told New York Times that after hearing it on the News Day. Bought an extra fifteen roles. Another woman asked her party guests to arrive with the roll of toilet paper and again I remind you this was all taking place in Nineteen. Seventy three for a few must toilet. Paper continued to be a rare find. Until like most short-lived trends the fizzled out in the aftermath. Carson was hotseat receiving a large portion of the blame for fueling the shortage. Myth Carson issued a sincere apology to viewers and again this is a quote from Johnny Carson. I don't want to be remembered as the man who created a false toilet paper scare. I just picked up the item from the paper and enlarge it somewhat. There is no shortage. That's a direct quote from Johnny Carson Nighttime Comedian back in one thousand. Nine hundred seventy three. At this point in time the damage has been done and Americans were passed all the potty drama most people would place the blame on Johnny Carson for causing the T. P. Panic but is he solely accountable even before Carson's joke on the Air Americans themselves are partially to blame for the self-induced toilet paper trauma. Can you blame them? These people were used to shortages of everything from oil to that true panic stem from a blatant rumor. Could it be a deja Vu today? The Washington Post reports a run on roles with both Costco. Another supermarket. Chain stripped all but clean even Amazon's physical stores appeared to be down to single rolls of Toilet Paper The New York Times similarly reported from a whole foods supermarket in Somerville Massachusetts where shoppers had to be limited to two packages of toilet paper. Each lease they strip the store bear. There was no shortage of toilet paper. Nineteen seventy three or today. Nearly fifty years later no shortage. There is a quote that applies to the story that you might be familiar with. Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. The quotas most likely due to writer and philosopher. George Santayana it expresses the sentiment. Ably that history repeats itself it that is true then. We simply need to pay attention. Still we all eat sleep and poop and are driven to take care of those basic

"If there's ever a time when all of us need a little comfort it's now and you know what's giving me the most comfort this week. Andrea what's that? It's the realization that we live around a lot of amazingly kind generous people. So let's start off by sharing what's been happening in our communities were. We're watching neighbors step up and support each other in all sorts of ways. We have such a range of different kinds of things that people are willing to provide their neighbors In addition to money in housing and things like that things like delivery or child care or some people are artists in saved like they're willing to do online video chat sessions doing our. That's Jerry Medina. She's one of the founders of a local mutual aid group that's a grassroots network of people offering and requesting help so these groups are mostly organizing online but there are also posting flyers texting calling neighbors to let them know how they can get help and these mutual aid groups are popping up all over the country with people willing to buy groceries for each other to take care of each other's pets to entertain kids while parents are working. Some people have even open their homes to total strangers. Who need a place to stay? And we've heard a lot about that here in Boston because we've got so many college students and so many of them have had to leave their dorms and they've got nowhere to stay within not even our. I think that we saw this person. I'm staff often offer this to the student. That's why I think this is such a powerful way of practicing community. It's like Ben the nicest thing to observe during this entire time you know have seen local businesses stepping up to. It's a really trying time for anyone in the restaurant industry but Dmitri Murphy who owns Daddy Jonesboro nearby. Somerville is really stepping up. Even though they've had to close for the time being a couple of our staff are still working and they're doing so because they're delivering food to families in need. When I saw that we weren't going to be go bring kids to school. I was like wow restaurants have food and we are going to need to get it somewhere and these kids aren't going to school in Somerville. Maybe we can turn the need of the restaurants and all of our restaurants into a way to help the community and of course they're individuals who are just helping on their own like has saroj. She's a school principal living in Milton Massachusetts. So I do have a friend. Who is mean compromise? His bodily agreed to take an offer signed. GonNa do some shopping for her. Today cooks the meals and drop those off. Put up a post on her facebook page. She said she was willing to help anyone who needed food pickups or even cooking. She also said she was willing to take care of the of working parents. I think there is the capacity to love in Cairns showed kindness. I hope that there is more communication around folks that can check in with their neighbors. Like if you know that you have a neighbor who lives by themselves to knock on their door. Maybe wear masks leaving. No even just say you need something. Call me

"Day was December twenty six seventeen eighty Scottish mathematician titian scientists and science writer. Mary Somerville was born. Her works made contemporary scientific ideas more accessible to a wider heider audience and influenced how physical science developments were discussed. Mary was born Mary. Fairfax in jeopardy Scotland. She was was the fifth of seven children. Born to Vice Admiral. Sir William George Fairfax and Fairfax both of whom came from well off families. Uh because her father was in the Royal Navy he was often at fee her mother home schooled her when she was young. Mary learn to read but she. You didn't not learn to read very well and she could not write. Girls were expected to learn household aid social skills and Mary chores and learned from the Bible beyond that she often spent time by the seashore and Moore's when Mary was around ten years old and her father returned home from a long absence. He was unhappy with the fact that she could not read well or right and did not know Matt so he sent her off to a boarding school in the town of Muscle Boura but the elite school was not a good fit for Mary though she learned some handwriting. Grammar Math and French at the school. She only stayed there for a year as a teenager. Mary spent a lot of time in social activities going to concerts and parties but she also began studying on her own after seeing algebraic symbols in a magazine she gained an interest in Algebra and she was an avid reader. She took advantage of her family's library. Studying navigation Greek Latin and geometry. Her parents tried to keep her from studying math because they believe that studying. Such a complex academic subject subject could cause girls physical and mental harm. They even took her candles so she couldn't study at night but she did manage to educate hid herself in secret. Her brother's tutor bought her books and she memorized. Some books and an uncle helped her with classical studies in eighteen. o four our. Mary was forced to marry her. First Cousin Samuel Greek who was a captain in the Russian Navy they moved to London had two sons one of whom died as has a baby. She had a little more leeway to study math and science now that she was married but Samuel did not support her intellectual proceeds he. He died in eighteen. Oh seven and she returned to Scotland with her son. The death of her husband brought her more financial freedom and allowed her to pursue her studies openly eh she studied higher math physical astronomy and she read. Isaac Newton's Book Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy on the laws of motion and universal. Oh gravitation her. Studies were encouraged by some scholars like William Wallace a professor of mathematics at Edinburgh University in eighteen. Twelve else she married. Dr William Somerville. An army doctor who was also her cousin. But unlike Samuel Greek he supported her studies. She began studying. Geology legit and botany. The couple moved to lend in and have four children together. Though only to survive to in London they became friends with other scientists. INTAS like William Herschel and Caroline Herschel as well as Charles Baggage in eighteen twenty six. Mary published her. First Scientific Paper on the magnetising power of the more refrigerator solar rays though. The paper was praised and she continued doing experiments with solar radiation. The idea that the signs radiation could magnetized substances was proven incorrect. Her own research got some attention but her translations and works detailing other scientific research urge discoveries was more popular. Mary spent four years. Translating and condensing mathematician Pierre applauses celestial mechanics and in eighteen thirty one the more accessible mechanism of the heavens was available to the public for years later her second book the connection of the Physical Sciences was published wished. The book summarized what was known about the physical sciences and showed how the sciences connected with one another Mary and Caroline Herschel with the first woman men who were named honorary members of the Royal Astronomical Society. Somerville continued her scientific work after her husband and son died in eighteen sixty the in eighteen sixty five respectively. She wrote physical geography which is published in eighteen. Forty eight another notable work of hers was on Molecular Killer and microscopic science which was basically outdated by the time it was published in eighteen sixty nine. I've never never had an experience quite like it and I was actually at dinner last night. namedrop within the Dean and Lindsey. That's by getting CALC for regular listeners. And I was saying to them and how it was like the second. I got into the room with Kate. It was like we were magnets. Destroy onto each other even at the end roomful of people. And where do I find myself in the corner. Having the little chat with K it was just so so lovely and also just so surprising that it's taken this long to meet given that we by working bt industry so. I'm going to set the scene Knwo you. We met in cates hotel room on Halloween. That's just descriptive. It's GonNa get this. I was doing. I didn't know what temperature was and within in five minutes. We were talking about Margaritas. Los Angeles the Beach Santa Barbara and Guacamole and within moments of finishing the taping. We were drinking homemade Margaritas. Rita's delicious by the way and toasting the fact that we finally got together met and also created this podcast this show honestly. It was a delight to record because K is no nonsense. She's no BS. And I really really love. Love Her story how she learned manage her. Oh next summer. How interesting skin sent home on a career path where she became a clinician institition? He created Harry skin-care. Why Science is so important brand which makes my heart thing and how becoming a business woman came with its version fishes of trials and tribulations and what she's up to next and it really reminded me and I think this is another reason why the show felt so special? It really reminded me a of how the gone show started. which was I for years have spoken to even the beauty industry? You've created bronze John's you've created this huge success. And there's never been a blueprint has never been a blueprint for how they should or any kind of Join the dots of how they should create has those businesses and whenever I used to editorial in magazines that was the part of the story that you would never able to share because it was always about the products or about something else and it was really really delightful set in and go right back to the beginning of Kate. Story really go back to the beginning of Kate story understand how all the pieces fit together and also you can hear it too. She's a brilliant person to have a proper deep meaningful with genuinely this. podcast could have been several hours long. It was so easy to kate and no subject was off limits. "Music. You've got the kind of whole Middle East complex there. It's a collection of three now four venues actually because they took over t t the bears, which was my favorite place. Yes, please for music doesn't exist anymore. Now it's another Middle East venue, and but it's not just like rock venues. God like a little place called zuzu, which will have random like midtown nights in this tiny space. It's super fun. Also, a lot of kind of veggie and vegan restaurants, and you know that whole vibe. Great. Okay. Just north is at Somerville. Yeah. Will I? You hit Inman square Inman square which is on the? Yeah, it's like from central squares visitor you keep or you could. I mean, I think it's another kind of up and coming neighborhood in terms of restaurants, there's an, I think, the best, in my opinion, the best Indian food in the Boston areas, and this little spot called job Daba Inman square kind of Indian street food. It's great Somerville, Somerville. I don't know. It's changing so rapidly that I cannot say with confidence what it's like now. I mean, Todd, throw the ball to time. Yeah. When when I was there, it was like amazing for like there's a big Portuguese. Community out there, big Brazilian communities, a huge Brazilian community in Boston. Yeah, as orient community randomly. So a lot of kind of Portuguese and Portuguese adjacent communities. And it was kind of a very up and coming area. There was like Davis square. There was like a theater there. That's very old school and and very charming. But I don't know what Somerville's like now it's charging Somerville like now Somerville, the summer fill is still kind of the up and coming sort more affordable neighborhood that a lot of young people are moving to. And I think there's some really funky like dive bars there right now. So. One that comes to mind is China's spotlight lounge like that heating. Yeah, that's great. Kind of funky dive. They serve like baloney sandwiches. Yeah. Okay. All right, says north you wanna give me south sure of back bay Newbury street and make a beeline for Isabela Isabella Stewart Gardner museum. It is about that like, oh, that's fantastic. It's very unusual unique. You don't. Yeah, believe it's Victorian home, please fact check may and it is born of this woman collection private collection. She was super click and Boho from like a century ago. And this home was turned into a beautiful private museum with a salon style display of the art and artifacts. So you can kind of walk through and it's all hanging in the rooms and there's like antique chairs and things. But it's such a distinctive set of art and also the site of one of the bigger art heists I think in US history. Right? But. Oh God, what happened stolen? I forgot how it happened still and replaced it with a forgery or something. It was like very involved. Okay. So it's one of the best museums not just in the city by saying the country in the country for sure, yeah. Was also like she was like very particular right about what she wanted, where she curated the whole thing before she left us. Yes, exactly. All right, park street in the common area how you have to you have to walk through the gardens and the common rate we've been talked about, even if you don't get on a swan boat, like you have to just spend a little while you're the flowers. Like while you're doing and you have to think about that at one point it was used for cows that is what a raising. Common means that's where the tragedy of the Commons comes from Boston common is the Commons that they were talking about. The tragedy of the Commons is comic theory where this is completely not a traveler thing, but when a collective is responsible for something and people can take advantage of it, they will basically the tragedy of the comms, nobody's responsible, but everybody can take advantage of it. I'm probably getting that wrong. Somebody can tweet it and tell us. Actually. Well, there's no tragedy there. Now it is. No. And especially in the spring, there's like one of the entry points has a giant George Washington statue..
