With Some Knowledge, Funnies, and Research (2018 Midterm Elections, Les Moonves, Idris Elba, Janet Jackson)
Welcome to minority coroner with an and James, the wonder twins Apolo casting. Learn laugh play. It's like blues. Clues only. It's more black queer and lady lies. This week on minority corner. What do we do in? What's happening something big happened this week? Did we have an election? I think we did. I have mixed feelings ninety to work through my mixed feelings with you. We can talk about there are some wonderful things to happen. But I think he has some not so great things happen. And I need your hall processing. Yeah. I mean, I think we're going to be helping each other process. What happens but corners? It's a discussion. I think is that on packing things who are the winners who are the losers. What's going on? And what does also means for the future and moving forward. We have some ideas. Oh, I have a scoop for you. Oh, I'm ready to hear some scoops Scooby. Is it is about fuck. Bays last moon. Badge. Just fuck things up anymore. Oh the ghost of life plus moon best past that moon. The fuck similar should not find like ice cream nouns. But you know, what I'm ready? I have the scoop for you too. But you know, what I see where we go with that. Actually scoop two scoops and the votes are someone's really sexy who. Who is it? Okay. We'll find out. So we can put this episode. Let's go. Di Di Di Di Di Di Di Di Di Di breaking news breaking news. Well, I don't. Dun, Dun, Dun, Dun. We're even refer base. Now, the first one. Free hours of what could work it out. Loosen up. Oh. The lead you. That's our breaking news song. You know? We can't have any just anything basic irregular. What's the breaking news? Okay. I don't even know how I Nancy drew this. Yeah. Yeah. You always you don't always doing the research always trying to get the latest in footloose. Okay. You know what? Pas on that. Because I feel like what are your favorite things to do is talk about how much of a research? You are. Well, why Braeriach? No way. What is that thing? Like how Josh protests you much? To pursue says it too much struck researcher. That'd be researching like to do research in on the research as I was doing my research. Well, I like because you all you do so much research that you don't need to talk about it. Like, I do like a fair amount. So important for me to like keep up appearances, isn't that counter to maybe I need to be talking about how I research once again buried the leaf what is this? Okay. So as I was doing my research, I clicked on an article that we this is an older article that came a few months ago. Okay. Just when you thought les Moonves couldn't be any more of a fuck face. My God this guy this. Oh. And this is this circles back to a conversation. We've been having for years. Yeah. On the podcast victim. Les? Moonves says on this podcast list, moon viz. Yes, is pretty much the single handed responsibility person with how do you say about what's a better phrase? He is responsible CBS ruin for ruining Janet Jackson's Hey, I just scooped you. I just I just got yet. Yeah. I read about this. But I'm going to. Chamula lex die. Tell me tell me the children about this. I just I had. No, I don't how I must've been sleeping. I his okay. You like beauty rest. I love you. Got this face got. Sleep like a koala day mother. Cool wall is be their children from their butts. This is this a new breaking news fact, learn laugh, laughing play did you know that no didn't know that David Attenborough on nature. It was hell acute. It was as Kuala with their little tiny baby. I was like us acute. And then like the mother koala produces a special fecal matter that your baby from and they showed us baby straight up Krahn towards the butthole challenge out of it. Well, I learned some the bus you anyway, just got scooped less. So less. So if you all remember back to nipple gate if like this is like an ongoing minority corner investigation. Keep we keep reopening at least files about Jetta in nipple game box off the shelf. We'd like you know, what let's go. Let's go. Let's go. I would have reopened up that investigation. It seems can reopen up investigations. So can we so can so can we box? We have one bucks this. That's the only investigation move really are. And maybe it'd be on think who bit beyond say every once in a while for that. Oh, yeah. We do. Okay. Close. Put it back in the box. If we have time I want to pin back to so not Sunil often. Pin on the van, but let's beds. So so he was head of CBS during the forget when that whole thing happened, and he actually banned both he was livid. And we have actually banned he'd band both Janet Jackson and Justin timberlake's Grammy's that we're going to be happening. The next week. If you remember, Justin Timberlake went to the Grammys, you I think he performed and if you want awards and shit like that he was selling how did Justin Timberlake going back. He gravelled and cry. Oh, I didn't do this. He gravelled and cried. And so pretty much because Janet Jackson has integrity hasn't technically didn't grovel. Les Moonves has made it his mission to destroy and ruin he her career. And if you remember CBS owned by Viacom dot com owned MTV, mass amounts of radio stations VH one. He's sent memos to all of them. He was the one that orchestrated. He said do not play her music videos. Do not let her on any of the channels stop playing her music and her album that was really some unplayed or didn't you? Well, the next few once blockbuster. Then fast forward to two thousand eleven he has a book she had a book something like like south empowerment or something coming on being you were coming out of your future or something. Hey, really beautiful. I was close. True. You a journey to fighting and loving yourself. It's like one of those men magnetic poetry's, you're like Ofek couple birds. I live in reason the self help section. What did they use these days? We will. Your future. That's good. You need to put that in your back pocket. Like, what am I like special skills? She had that book loving you being yourself. True. You be your best you. Yes. Produced by Simon and Schuster. Also, buy Viacom. Let's. It was live a source says he you said how the fuck did she slipped through? He was so livid that she had gotten book deal. Goot me scooped. You scoop scoop scoop is there? My research. Because that's. Was out to destroy Janet Jackson. That's where I was like Kay dumb. With this move on with my day. I didn't know Justin Timberlake was on that list too and begged and gravelled to get on there. And yeah, all let's move as one it was a power trip and since Janet Jackson winning give it to them because why should she? She's Janet Jackson. Yep. Destroyed it what a fucking small-minded little, man. In fact, some of everybody who was interviewed for this article from the Huffington Post, and we'll post it they asked to be anonymous because they were like, listen, I don't need him coming after me there. People has offend deta against people. He's power hungry maniacal man, and also too I said this earlier weeks ago when you were talking about the new shows that were coming out diversity the diversity is coming to CBS. I'm not cer-. What's different CBS? Les Moonves has gone. That's what's different. He's like he's been a sore on that network. And that network is I mean rest in peace what it used to be. But the. Cosby show. I believe it was on CBS lease it. Yeah. So it's like man used to have these things and like Maude and all those shows that were like talking about issues. That's what I got. That is crazy. Yeah. I mean, it just goes his show. What like you need people at the top who are even keel, fair minded and not meglomaniac crazy people. Yup. I wonder would it's like in the Julie Chen, moon, vez and less move as. Oh my gosh. I mean, I am pulling for you wolf Julie Chen like out of that. We do. I'm a big brother fan. I love Julie Chen and ten moon van says as she is now known to everybody. I'm like went to that come out. Okay, girl. No get out of there. Oh, what's your husband's a monster? But I wonder if it's one of those things sometimes like women just see a different side to their husbands or they or do you just have blinders or are they just fake like concessions because I mean, clearly she. Is not hurting from her marriage to less moon. Viz I hate to say that the sound. So like gold digger. But I mean like she's on. On the team. The talk happened. I'm going to say this dollars to donuts, but because of her husband was like to say the truth, and I'm all here for it. Because she put, you know, she's Asian American woman, and they together a very diverse panel on the talk really appreciate that. Yeah. But I mean, she benefited from, you know, her relationship with them. Yeah. Yeah. And he wasn't Astle to her. So she's like, maybe she's an maybe he is an asshole to her. But we shouldn't speculate that's behind closed doors badly. That's not what we do. We don't speculation coroner. When did we become that? I mean, I will speculate off off the mic. Man, witching gear. Yes, I think we had an election yesterday. This is the day after the election. It's us this subtle. It is November seventh. You guys are going to be hearing this on November ninth. But, you know, a couple of days or you could be listening to during kwanza Japan. If you're just joining into these episodes, whenever you get a chance, we thank you for that. Yeah. Congratulations on my pregnancy. So thanks guys. Got the kids going to be like six years old. Minority cord. You're pregnant. Yeah. I, you know, I like I have like some time to I was all in my feelings last night to the point where I really appreciate it. And that message species like so today's episode because I care about you. And I wanted to make sure because I was feeling a certain way, and I saw your post, and I was like okay now, I wanna make sure that we enter into this podcast on equal footing. Jaren about each other to know in each other's feelings respecting each other's than knowing that we're on the same size for on the same team. You know, just because you're a Republican and democrat visit. Just because you donated money to Ted Cruz campaign, and I had questions. I I can't even joke about camp because. Describing it would be weird. But like the thing is I also learned a lesson. Like what happens when you are in your feelings and it's late at night, and you've been drinking a lot of whiskey and then right oppose men new friends onto mode on. On face by. Oh, here's here's what happened last night. So I I was by my so I went to a Manhattan Democrats meeting mover shaker. But then like, none of the people that I knew it Manhattan, young diamonds. Whereas they are the league of we're joint thing with the league of women's voters. And I don't really know any of you. So then I was like well Marianne Williamson is giving a lecture across the street. So I went to the Marian limit as I need a pray. I need to get some spirituality. New York life. I'm enjoying this. Yeah. And so then I was there. And then afterwards I was looking at the results and this is like early on. So it's like nine PM, my time holes are just closing. And it is a disaster. Look it's a lot of like, it's not going. Well, I'm like it's right off the back like Andrew gillum sought doing well doing well. Right. Beto was up at that point though. And I was like, but one percent was in or something I'll take it. And it just was a disaster me trying to get to my friends. I went to the Manhattan and Democrats they invited me to go to the governor's event. But I was like in my don't you go to that? While I was in jeans and a tie just one of just I just didn't feel. New york. I'm not I'm not New York. I'm northern California. So to be I'm like formal and you say tie jeans and a short sleeve like button up with a tie. And it just you know. No. For governor, especially on a night of politics of an election. Yeah. So then I went to my friend's house. It was a disastrous trying to get there haven't eaten hours of time. So what about the time by the time? I got there things things started winning had taken like we started winning and stuff, but I was still hungry alone in my feelings. I never got to celebrate all the whims. Uh-huh. Get you because I had a very different night. I came I came home, and I watched a little bit of this show. You might be familiar to call ninety day fiance. I'm not familiar all actually. So that was a deception. Never heard very sophisticated show of the John rea- of reality. I've heard of that part of that very popular in France. Hey, it's a trashy ash show. It's the trashier show right now, and it's super trashy. And I was like what until see? I remember I was kid the learning channel she ain't anymore. Like it used to be like really like riveting docu series. Now, it's trash hole, and they try to make it in the same format. It's like you're gonna learn like the beginning of ninety eight theon say starts like it is a documentary. It starts with the lettering. Like, you know, like a good serious like show guttering and it says every year. Americans apply for the k one visa, and basically it's like Americans trying to get married to international people. But both sides are trash like strata, crazy pants cat fishing living at home, not that living at home as any problem. But no. Just bad trash people. Okay. Yeah. I did this because I was looking at Twitter, and I know myself, and I the house gape. Careful watch south, and I had to listen to the words of the wise and noble Roxane gay. That was like elections are going to happen. Don't kill yourself by looking at the you know, the feeds and all of that just check in later, and then you'll find the results then so yeah, I did that just which was a smart move. I was sitting in Marianne Williamson's lecture. It was starting to like twenty minutes laugh as well. Let me just take a peek, and I couldn't shot. And then I couldn't. So I was hitting refresh and try to listen to the spiritual as lecturer. Yeah. I have a panic attack right now. So sorry, you're right. That's the truth. Especially on a night like election taking a peek is like almost like it's I would say it's quivalent to like being like, I'm gonna look around this corner. And then you slip into a hole into just like. Just like that. Especially like also, I found here's the thing too. I think it was really triggering like my emotions and feelings from two thousand sixteen because I was there at the job at center. Yeah. And so it was bring back all of those feelings of jazz a losing and things going into a house gape. And so I was so down in that deep ditch. It was hard to see. And now the day later. I can see all the positives. Sort of thing that had happened. Before we get because there's so many. Yeah. I would could could we start with the low? So we end on a high. No yet because I feel like the low actually leads into a high note, you are so right? Agreed. Agreed. Agreed. I think one of the hugest things that really I think I should we take a quick music break. Oh, yeah. You know, what you guys listen to this little ditty, and we're going to kick off with some lows of the election season. But we'll get some. We'll get our high on later. There. We go. What do you look for in a book literally found the back? It said like this book made me ship, my pants. I'd be like, that's I'm buying this book. Like, I think the common blurbs I liked that. We both want a crap ourselves over both. What's the best way to read in the tub? That noise I'm reviewing a plastic bag today. How do you? Find a good book. Most fucked up weird shit you like into handed over. Hey, I'm Brant grant. And I'm era we're reading glasses, and we solve all your problems every Thursday on maximum fun. And we're back if you're just joining in don't have commercials yet. So. Me. And also on the podcasts. Are you ever? Just joining it. Oh, if you're just fast forwarding, I'm glad that you turned your dials. Just turn your dials before we get to the lows. Okay. We haven't little sausage being made right now James videos chapter minute. For you. What we scarf? Yes. See? Inside. Tossing your scholar. As what other? As I wear a short sleeved. He's I'm still California heart where we were teachers stars like he can't shake from a hot area, California too. True. That's true. But I got the bay area blood in me now. Okay. So I think the big show. I was told I was reading this buck you media. Fuck you. Okay. Yes. But that's us too. Okay. Well, but we do our jobs. We don't yet speculating researchers. We are researchers. I was we talk about a lot on the show about how much research, y'all know. But I just get so tired of having their like every article I read was just about like how Andrew Golota was gonna win Andrew Golombek it a win win. And it just was such a crushing blow to my chest heart whole, you know, tell me about it. Well, I just it reminded me again Li everyone's like Hillary Clinton's gonna win Hillary Clinton gonna win. And I think it's you're not doing your job media when you were projecting that sort of stuff because it also I don't know some people sit at home 'cause they're like, oh, they're going to win. Right. Exactly. It's apathy be like, well if he's gonna win then he's gonna win. Eight other side who's like I need to go because that you know, that black man's gonna win. I think what we need to talk about right now in this low section. Before we get into, you know, people and the other sides and all of that is a little phrase called voters. Yes. Can we talk about that? Because that is the evil. Fucking lurk in stink fart cloud over this election. Yeah. Espec- especially like in Georgia, and like, my heart. Just like I I on when I think about it about the voter suppression that has happened in Georgia because it's like it's straight out of the sixties or the fifties. When you know, especially in Georgia, we've talked about how camp who's overseeing is the secretary of state, and he's overseeing the elections all to me. It's like, why would you not want to recuse yourself on that you can't be fair and balanced? And also to me, don't you? I would want to win fairly you were straight up cheating. There was this story about a ninety two year old woman. So they had done all these voter purges. Yeah. Mostly purging, you know, like seventy percent, really black and Latino mostly black. Georgia's a high a lot a lot of people there, and it was like ninety two year old woman went to the polls and was told she coinate vote. Fuck you. She has already lived through that because you did your voter purchases ninety two year old woman Cornyn bones. Don't like you couldn't vote for potentially the first black female governor like I know it, and then his gusting they have long lines people were waiting in lines for like four hours. I when I was like in and out I to mine was easy. But there's five and little kids. That elementary school. But this there's like so much like there's there's like MS other big like, there's so many polling places here in New York in the bay area they fair, and they purposely create small amounts of polling stations. And then they're under stop. They don't they have like one of these points seasons. Three stations to be able to what the fuck is that I and people are having to wait like in three or four hour long lines. But the courts had ruled that they were gonna Lau voting to continue going till ten PM people had gone to go get some of the eat and came back or told that they couldn't vote and it just like straight up like targeting racist bullshit. And then the loss he did recently of saying that I the dumpster trying to hack the election fearmongering, this is he he to me is almost Kemp to me is almost a cartoon with how. Villa braces. He is. So I was talking to a co worker who told me that he actually was in. He spent some time in Atlanta and two thousand and twelve Georgia tried to I'm probably going to butcher this. But essentially, I believe what it was was Georgia tried to to cut the spending on the archives. The Nash the state archives for the state of Georgia and make it privatized, which basically means that if you were to go and research, you couldn't you know, right pressing history changing history hiding, the ugly fact that the south was very terrible, especially Georgia black people secretary of the state at the time who did that Kemp. Oh, see there you go. History. Have you seen his did you ever look at his his commercials. No. But I know that I do those races robo calls. That were also there were racist robo calls that were going out the Oprah had to put out like a message of like that was not me like his commercials. I looked at one today. I couldn't believe it like literally it's him with a gun being like, I got guns. I'm a governor with guns going into his truck. I'm going to pick up some legals in this truck legitimately said that this guy is disgusting. And I cannot even wrap my brain around someone to be so disgusting, so petty so low down. He just it's it's just like how you you. And I were texting earlier, and it's a lot. And we've talked about it on the podcast. We're generational trauma. We're feeling it has generational racism his fabric in of at the lecturer is that these native American woman was talking about generational trauma. And they say that it takes four generations for that trauma to work itself out. And that's why like, you know, when I remember we talked about the cross burning last week. I just like there's a thing like when it is voter suppression. It hurts like it absolutely hurts, and and look at all the all the snaps Stacey Abrams and Andrew Golota because look how fucking close Stacey Abrams has holiday. It's wednesday. I don't know what happened my time because listening to this. I'm so glad she's not. I am glad that she is not conceding. Absolutely. Glad that she's not conceding. It's not been called yet. And look at how. How hard how close she is Andrew gillum. How close he was in the bullshit red tape that they had to go all the hurdles that they have to go to. And it's again reminds you as a black person in this country how much harder you have to work to win or even get close. We'll juice it's ridiculous. But what you're saying right now to me in this is where I was feeling I feel I mean, I'm pissed off that they lost. And they lost in will not Stacey yet. We don't know. Yes. Yes. Yes. And but in terms of voter suppression because that's what it was. Let's just be honest. Georgia was fucking obvious. Which is why Gladys Stacey Abrams is not conceding. No Florida's fucking obvious. With in crews in Texas it happened. Yeah. Yeah. The thing that I have to say non-use a silver lining to me just like how their generational trauma generational racism built into the fabric of this country. And the fact that just a few years ago, we elected Trump. We were able to get in these deeply racist states. Yeah. Deeply ingrained Ku Klux Klan member Fleck and burning lynching states near close. Yeah. Yeah. So to me the door is open. Yeah. Are we getting into the highs already? No. We're not. Okay. Okay. I know I I almost was about to as well. I was like I am. But yeah. Well, another I was a little sad that Anju Gillam conceded. So I wanted him to fight a little bit longer or just because like, you know, there was bullshit things that happen. Because like Florida like, I don't know why it's like always things like Florida. What is going on? I think every few not even just election cycle. There was a two yoga instructors who were shot and killed by in that guy was openly. I hate women and was late. In about his misogyny and his hatred towards women. And again, like I just watched that movie recount recently in the spring board of you know, it gave us eight years of Bush and Iraq war John crazy Trayvon Martin. I mean, the list of things that's going down in Florida and acts of mine reminded me that he said he lives on in Florida. And he was like Florida what's going on? He's like it's that northern that panhandle area that it's like there's two states that the southern is stiff. And also we're talking about Florida enjoyed it. They they are very they're right. Horder? Do you last night? I was get. I Florida's always like Florida again for me. I was just like last night. I was like I am tired for you know, what build that wall? Build it around Florida or you not mother nature keep wanting to take those. Wants to hit the reset button with. Let me let wash this away Florida. Just keeps a message it up for you. Why should I be gone? I will I have to knowledge that there are a ton of amazing people people, you know, what when the way off to them on a boat when that wave comes and come on. You know, you got your pick go along side the coast. That's what that's one of my main reasons that I want to bring up this whole voter suppression in voting I have to salute Inc. Lake for me. It is so easy for me to be like, oh, I'm California. I'm liberal. I'm voting for a blue. It's like easy. You know? I'm in Lyon, blue, you know, it's Z. Imagine win the race is so fucking tight. The candidate is somebody that literally called the other opposing candidate a monkey, which is what happened in fucking Florida. Right. I mend all of you democratic voters in Florida right now because you. You are doing the work. Yeah. Yeah. You know? Like that some scary shit. I've been through Florida every time I go to Florida. It gets a little nerve racking and the beach Miami is fine. But if I start walking around and get a little nervous, I got a little beating Miami a lot of butts. I love myself five gotta feed the babies. That's weird. Sorry to a circle back is facing circle. Okay. Just held strong. Right there. Okay. Vote your Coa life, some other ones that were losses to Christine. How quests she lost the governor bed in Vermont would have been the first transgender woman. She had the democratic bed there. Katie hobbs. She lost a closely watched secretary of state race in Arizona. E N O. She lost a Steve gainer. Who was the GOP newcomer who said ballots should only be printed in English what the phone back. That's what's going on over there in Arizona. And also like Beto losing like I was you know, what I think he was going to be that close. Like, I did not think he was actually long shot. And the fact that I got I. Yeah. I mean, I from what I was hearing. From conservative sources that I was keeping my era. I gotta hear what they're saying. What are they saying there? And it was a look out there. And it was a long shot by its he was so incredibly close. And I I know we're in the low section, but I can't help myself. But he there was a Betto effect in Texas that because of him he was innocent poll up a lot of local legislatures. So a lot of any judge. Liz judges I'm across in Texas, and who came out to vote because of the energy that he was providing in the same thing happen around CCA Abrahams. There was a district that a Representative one that Trump had overwhelmingly wine, but because of the Abrahams on the tournament she was able to bring out of this woman wanted lifting up lifting up up along with them. They were close. See we can't help ourselves. We can't because there were. There was some there was some great. There was some great things that happen. Well, then let's get over to the good. We can't do it. Let's get. Here's some more music. I'm gonna flip my scarf. Yeah. Is ready as we play the next track? I'm Riley smell. I'm Sydney McElroy. And I'm Taylor Smirl together. We host the podcast called still buffering where we answer questions. Like, why should I not fall asleep? I party. How do I be fleet? Is it okay to break up with someone using emojis? And sometimes we talk about no, we don't know find out the answers to these important questions and many more on still buffering a sisters guide to teens through the ages. I am a teenager, and I was to butts but spots butts. We got that. Good. Good. We got that. Good. Good. That's where he got that. Good. Good. Good. Good. Good. Good. Good. You want these goodies? Well. Why? The other thing that I want to bring up before we go into the other legislators because I mean, the big news everybody was talking about the celebrity races. Which was Andrew gillum. Stacey Atta Abrahams and Bittu rook. Those are the ones everybody was talking about. But let's face it. Those three are such superstars. I don't think. That's not this is the first that we're hearing about that. Is there weighing anywhere? And I think the biggest win for me of the voting is aegis Alba getting voted sexiest man of the year yourselves with that Blake Shelton bullshit from last year, which I think is a sign of good things coming. I think you know, what? Yes. Sexiest man of the year always tells us where we are as a country and what direction we're going. Yes, Blake Shelton was literally. Like, what's the thing that like announces that dangerous coming? The red flag the canary in the cage canary the cold mine, the canary in the coal mine. The siren was rigging. We should've known. About damn time yet, but his he'd been around forever. It's been and he's been sexy. Forever. Should've been like as soon as you noticed him people magazine should have been like. Oh, okay. Does. So I know that makes no sense at all Bill. You know what we're on the right track? I feel like people are done with his whole fucking catering to Trump's America bullshit. Yeah. Well in like there is so many. I like there's like there's one hundred women in history hundred congress women That's amazing. Not to mention a ton of them are women of color color. so many, you know, I don't let this. I have a list of just different people. They wanna highlight to you can talk about. There's I governor Scott Walker got defeated which is great. Yes. Scott Walker is like a notorious man who was a union BUSTER. He's there. Governor. This is local max rose in Staten Island. He unseated the Republican incumbent there, which is really good for for for the the house. The Senate one of the things I forget, but max rose that was a good way or I openly gay governor and Colorado. This story is dead. Why Jared polis who why? Because remember that bitch that that wouldn't give out the marriage licenses. She boss. Yeah. She lies. And now her governor is an openly gay, man. So fuck rich when something Davis, Kathy Davis, whatever she got she got out of the history books. Not writing you. I we also I let's see Serena's David and up dab, Holland who are the first native American women elected to congress, which is one crazy. As like there. The the first amazing glad that it finally happened glass ceiling boom, also should we stay? This is an MA fighter in a lesbian. I know would take you just play the great things just keep on going. What love is also just like, not only like the ethnic and sexual diversity of people who are getting elected. But just like what Thurs side things are where they're coming from. You know, and it's like diversity it's reflected of America, which makes sense a room full of people who are going to talk about what are the governing laws or what should we do? The. Hello. Like that's how that's what represent Representative should be. There's like I think over seventy six vets elective. I always think it's great. I think it's great to have vets who are in congress because they know been they've been to war, and so they're gonna they'll know what it's time for us to go. And when it went it's nine I would be more cautious about it. Because you know, the actual what happens. Yup. Yeah. Absolutely. I respect more. Let's see we have our first Muslim women. All right. Yes, rush. She let's leave. And he Han, Omar. Yeah. And minnesota. Yes. Very true. And like, again, let go like, you know, this country just continues to surprise me. Sometimes so happy. Yeah. And Omar is also the only a I one of the first Muslim women in congress to be like the, but she's also a Somali American refugee who came here more than two decades ago. And let's not forget the John Donald Trump's dumb ass, son. Donald Trump junior was just tweeting racist tweets about Somali refugees. So fuck you suck on that. We now have some Ali in congress and we're proud and we support her. Yeah. There were over a hundred and ten million voters this year. This was like numbers for the mid-term elections. I also stated because everything I turned on. There was like so much like tho- tho- vote for the like, I've never heard this much. Oh, vote for the midterms before ever. In about mid terms. Normally in this how it should be all ways. Yes. One of the reasons why Obama got so screwed is we elected him. And then we we're like, okay. You got it. And we didn't we didn't support him. Okay. Yeah. I'm saying this right now, I'm going to say something very controversial. Which is what I was a little frayed of. Okay, at people just a brace yourself everyb- lake for real is this your butts. She's breaking out the controversy. I'm kind of glad we got this election results because we got a lot of success. But we also got some major pit forget some hurts. It hurts. And when it hurts you fight you can't just rest on your laurels. If swept stent it if we swept the house. And then we got those three superstar candidates in. No one would twenty. Got this. Okay. What did my job? You're right. Because it's like every it just shows how much you have to keep outta. We've been talking about this on the podcast democracy is earned. Yes. It was very much blessed. I did not have to work for this democracy. I was born into it yet. I am being asked to participate. It's literally like for the rest of your life. It's a little side job that you're like, okay. What's going on? Okay. I need to vote and talk about it. Okay. You know, like, we get to be active participants in to our democracy. Our democracy is a garden. We can't just let him go to fuck in weeds or how vermin coming in. Ooh, we got vermin in the garden. Carbon. Now shit. It's the highest percentage of eighteen year old since they got the right to vote. I love it. How how sad is that? They're like, let's get the eighteen year olds to vote, and then they just never showed up because you don't what people needed stop talking shit about younger generations. This is the first group of generation Z, and they came out and voted out. Save us. So did better than we did when we were eighteen year old. I do also that we need to make it easier of how letting states are starting. I have some notes about this. But Sates are making it easier like turned eighteen just automatically registered to vote. You know? I remember I call. So imagine it's hard for those who go off to college like where I don't know that we make it easy for people to figure out like how do I feel like you go to college? And it's like here's your registration ballot. Or even like people who don't go to college. There should be automatic. It's automatic it should be Matic, and it's honestly kind of favors. Privilege in it. Because a lot of times you registered to vote when you get your license to drive by a lot of kids that are in urban areas. Don't drive. Kids who don't have money for cars. Don't end up getting their license. It if x different populations. So we need to like you said it should be automatic. What if you're a citizen, you should just be automatically registered? And you're not purged from any lists. Because why would you need to purge voters from a list like their dirtbag? I actually take a page out of Australia's in books. Australia might. Okay. I'm I'm here for you. I support you all Australia listeners, you already know this. All right. Okay. I'm hesitantly supporting. Shares here you're damn. A time. What what what you already know is. Larry now. So in Australia. You actually get fined for not voting who I love that. Into that. Like it's like pulled the five vote, but you're going to be fine. It's money money. Oh, we since we're talking about young people. We got how Andrea CASA Cortez, and Abby finnick or are the youngest one ever elected to congress mother. So great to twenty nine year old little twenty nine year olds out Florida passed amendment four. The right to vote for one point five million citizens who have already paid their debts society, creating the single largest expansion of voters by policies since the voting rights of nineteen sixty five percent of black men. Right. So here's the thing too. Which is paving the ground wave for next for the next election. You're going have potentially if half of those people vote, that's like, you know, seven hundred and fifty thousand people that are now going to be out there to vote and Andrew gillum gloss by like, I think less than that around the park number, right? True. Things are bubbling in Florida. It's an you know, what to what it is a Nike. It's literally just chipping away we just chipping away. Yes. The bullshit that is there. And again, we're the microgeneration. So we want like all right now. But it's a marathon have been a mess for a long time. And so we get the country since the beginning of this country. And so we don't get to take. We just have to be active participants. We know that we have elections every two years. Yes. Every two years and that we participate in that every single time in all these referendums and things that got pass. That's all the snaps. All of you only just citizens who you did that work because those are politicians who are doing that work. Those are citizens who work to get those measures pass to get people out there. Like, that's that's that's that's you. There's initiatives to raise the minimum wage pass in Arkansas and Missouri, Medicaid expansion and a slew of red states. There was a let's see the party. Oh, yeah. What are we going to say? Oh, I on a Presley, Massachusetts, first black congresswoman. Yes, I love our, geez. Beating longtime incumbent to which is like fuck. Yes. I mean, Boston is racist. So yes, you know, what, you know? It's so funny. I did it real. 'cause I my family is from like, my mom say the Phillies from Boston. And like I didn't realize that like I get I was in a very like just around my family, and I had no idea just like the racism out of Boston. But it there. That brit. I this. I'm sorry. I while now say that later, but. Democratic we the Democratic Party made massive gains at the state level to unified democratic governments in Colorado, Illinois, Maine, New Mexico in New York and also picked up seven new governors, so all of that combined huge because we're entering into the two thousand twenty we're going to be redrawing all the districts, so all that gerrymandering shit that went down. This last the reason why things are so packed up. Is that in two thousand ten when we weren't there for Obama. The Republicans went in redrew, everything these funky awful shapes that don't make any sense, it's time to change it. Yeah. And I think there's a so what's great is that these governors, and these, you know, democratic governments in these states will be able to lead the charge and redrawing these states, and I believe in a few a number of different states. I have the number somewhere they've already on their measures. They've already voted to redraw their districts. I love it. And Michigan is doing a really which Michigan is a swing state and Michigan. This young woman. She led the charge for this measure, and they're going to be having four Democrats, four Republicans and five independence redrawing the districts. I love it. Just these little regular citizens, which I think we need to do. Eight. Kansas elected, its first democratic governor since nineteen seventy five. Yeah. Yeah. Beating out Chris co BAC who he champion probably one of the most restrictive voting laws in the country. Well, he'd lead president Donald Trump's voter fraud commission, which we talked about which was found nothing. Yeah. Laura. Laura kelly. Ooh, I Elaine Luria. She won in Virginia and high did phone baking for her on Monday. Part. Yeah. I got I got involved little sought out to phone banking. I I was definitely like I I was I didn't want to do it. But I was like I need to get involved phone making by friend of mine. He threw a party party. There were six of us gaze at an apartment. Calling be swing states. People knew where they're pulling station were. Yeah. Yeah. And so now I feel motivated because now I'm like, okay now, I know phone making I want to host a fun being party. You can do a swing left dot org. They make it so easy for you in that case, just like they give you the information. They give you what to say and breezy awesome. I love it. I want to bring up Angie, Craig. She is the first openly lesbian mother to be elected to congress. And she's in Minnesota. But I really wanna point out. I love these like just desert shits because her opponent Jason Lewis compared gay people to rapists and called the bathroom access for transgender students in a bomb nation. So fuck you Jason Lewis. Glad the people of Minnesota voted in in g Craig because yuck. To that. That's that's a similar story to JD Ford. Who's an out gay, man? He'd be one of Indiana's most conservative seats senators to become the state's first out St Leger legislator. Kick out of there making so many changes, we're busting through levels. Never started doing in their six hundred eight black women who ran for office across the country six hundred and eight. Yeah. Yeah. Lot of them was Letitia James who she beat out. Keith. Who cares? What his name is. He's out of the. She's going to be New York state's attorney in. She's now she's going to be on the frontline pursuing Sappho actions against Trump will do her job is to see that she gets to the president. And she's going to be suing a lawsuit against the president's charitable foundation, which we all know is giant. I want to give a little shout out to Maxine Waters. Oh, can I can get all of all the shots, Maxine Waters slanted down. Always and forever. She is going to be now the head of the overseeing of finance. I. Yeah. How how we in? Have we've gotten the control over the house. Right. She is now one of the top officials that will be in charge of actually looking into the finances of this administration. So great. Yeah. Good, maxine. So we can really go for Ben Carson's fifty thousand dollar table that he bought like there's been like, I think that's the thing that you just brought up that we now have a system the government needs a system of checks and balances the way that it's just got a benefits. And I now there's been no system to check this administration to call them out. Anything can now open up on unvested Gatien's on their hostile be like, no more stupid tax laws are going to be you know, for the rich are going to be able to get past pass through anymore. We now have a system of checks in place. So I do knowing us even though we're in the positive section. I do have to say a little negative right now. Okay. Okay. Yeah. What the fuck Nancy Pelosi with your BI partisan speech right after we just went all this shit lake. That's not good. And it's also not like, it's I understand what she's doing. But it's also not just like, but not the time. And it's not it's not the energy that we need. We need you to be. And also she's trying to buy for speaker of the house, and it's not a done deal that she would be speaker of the house. I feel like what she has stated as when she wants to do is it's going to be a transitional year. She doesn't like she's she wants to step down. And she feels like she does have the experience and the connections to be able to whip up all the different votes that shoe will need to get things passed. But at the same time, we don't actually need to because we have majorities. So just go past the things that you need to go and pass. Right. I'm feeling like I get that. There's a time to be bipartisan. But clearly when when we're dealing with a party that is infested with racist. Exactly. Insanity. We need to be holding court and taking sides for the people. Yeah. So I as much as I want to I don't want to blast anybody of my party, but she needs to take a different tactic. Yeah. Yeah. I agree. Also, I know no we're not in the we're trying not to be in the negative zone. But I am you know, I really do give snaps to Claire mccaskill and what was the other one? I that McCaw school lost her seats because she's didn't she voted against brat. Brad kavanagh. She wasn't going to vote for his confirmation. She knew she knew she's a democrat. Yeah. So Claire mccaskill was a democrat who lost her seat to Josh how Holly and there was another democratic because she's in what was that? She is in Missouri and was read she her and another Senator were in on. Heidi Heitkamp Hearn, Heidi Heitkamp, or in Trump territory that they're Trump supporter that Trump people were not gonna vote for for them. But they've they stuck with their conscience. They knew that voting for Brett Cavanaugh was not the right thing to do. And they knew that was gonna cost them the election. And they give them the I give them all the snaps for doing that. Because that's called integrity. Yep. Yeah. And that's what they get to make sure that they have stops a bummer of bummer that their electorate turned on them for that. But that's also that's how democracy works then on it is I know it is we're at such a fascinating point in history right now. And I feel like because we won the House Democrats won the house back, and so many women of color, people of color LGBTQ people. I feel like. I I'm not I still I have hope right now, which is good. But it's very tenuous, and it's a different kind. If you look like two years ago where we were it was like building up from nothing. Totally. We were imagining what do what it going to be? It was different. And now it's like we have ten we've got skin in the game. You know, it's not a tangible. We've got and we just have to you know, sort of keep working this actually, I would like to actually sort of pivot like what does this mean sort of moving forward? And I say something that I think is controversial. So in this pains me I already had my morning for this. Do the this election does say though, because of the losses of Beto and. Well, we don't know where Stacy Iran's is. But with Andrew gillum, these rockstar outsider, very young, vibrant. Yeah. By nordea. I do think that this actually put a nail. I don't think that you're gonna have a commonly Harris twenty twenty that. And I did not want this to be true white men's votes. Still matter. This country's racist. It's not right. We're so casual. Well, how can you not? It's literally just like the sky has blue this country's racists. I mean, they're just hand back. Like, right. That's what it is. Unfortunately in many of last night's democratic candidates one. But at the same time, though, many democratic candidates won not by learning Republican voters promising bipartisanship, but by having bold policies, I think Trump is a hard one to beat. And I think the only person think that could do it is Joe Biden. Oh, interesting. And here's can I put this into your pocket, though. I think commonly Harris has a track towards the presidency. Here's what I think. Okay. Break it down Biden. And Kamala Harris interesting, that's a winning kiddo. Well, people are talking about Bego. He's starting to get a little buzz. I know I think he's gonna have. I think he can generate a Bernie Sanders sort of like, energy and fiber ency. I just think that like, I know there are people. Yeah. And people know Biden, and I think most people who are also like I don't like Trump, and I'm a Republican in these people usually vote in that red box. I think Joe Biden has the potential to learn them the lure them over because Trump is like he's got such a crazy fanatical right base. And then I think by putting on someone like, I think Kamala Harris should definitely still run because I'm beyond the debate sage get the public attention and debate against bite in and let's have a really great strong primary say put Beto in the mix as well. Yeah. But I think that if Biden equipment, I don't think he should have another white guy or white old white guy on his ticket to put comma Harris, it's going to energize. Because I think about commonly Harris, I love her. I love her. She's not a good public speaker right now you ever watch her speak not engaging in. It's not interesting. But this is just this is true. I think she's a great politician and not all like there's many local like, but you're going to the national stage. If you're speaking to the national stage and look at the track record ever since Ronald Reagan, every single person who's been voted in aside from George Bush senior he got beat out by someone who was charismatic and interesting that people want. That's kind of where we are. Yeah. And Kamala Harris doesn't have that yet. Now, she serves as vice president. Yeah, she can get and she's got the experience. And then she because is a woman of color. So she's got a have she has to have all the credentials worked harder. Sorta sorta got it. I think you have a winning ticket. I even think that Biden would even do one term and set to the side and let Kamala Harris potentially run for another candidates. I'm gonna throw it you focus. I don't I don't think that Biden in Harris are and I'll be ELS. Els? Cory booker. Two. You know, I think I think this election does show that I think he could be vice president Joe candidate. I this. Another Obama not racist not against Trump. He's an incumbent. Instead, the combat already has the advantage, and this I didn't want to say this two years ago. I was like no we need a wildcard we need someone fringe, and I would have been two years ago. I was not I was like fuck getting the white man's vote. I don't care about it. But seeing it's this election results. Okay. I. I see where the country is in. But I do think that BP pick definitely getting someone who is a better accommodate Harris. A Booker who is adding jobs people to get to the polls and excite black people to get to the polls. He's got to put a black person on his ticket. Okay for you. They black. No with. Was with one. Yes. What did he say that? I do too. I do too. I just think it's interesting. I've really been watching this like there's I watched interviews little speaker, a very powerful speaker. I think I think I would love. Hey, if it's Elizabeth Warren. Absolutely. I think Trump is going to be an awful human being to her in those debates. Well, he's going to be a human being to anybody in his debate Biden can like absolutely go toe to toe with not saying the others. Too old. I think that's why I think that Biden would do one term just to get the country back on track and make way for the future. You know, just to get Trump out. I think that Biden has a lot of regrets that he didn't win that. He did it run. Heard it listen to him in the interview he regrets that he didn't run by his son was like, I think he'd just lost the son. Cancer give man he has. But he has a lot of guilt because you know, he loves this country and and and whatnot. I but. Yeah, I mean, he's old. That's why I think he would just do one term Trump is also old. I fucked Trump. I'm not, you know, whatever old and gross. He's yeah. All the bathrooms. Here's the thing too. I think the Democrats need to do is we need to have our politics strong policies of just like this. What we're gonna fuck into for instance, they bold policies like we're gonna make DC and Puerto Rico estate that's part of our policies. We're going to make that happen. This is why I can't get behind the Pelosi statement because it's too fucking wishy-washy. We need you. So the party we need a bold statement. We need a platform, and we unite we need to unite except the progressives in because that's clearly who we want the there's a huge movement again. Like a lot of people that we list. They are part of this sort of progressive movement and all the snaps for like, you know, I think like you said, you know, the Trump getting elected really a fire under people's asses. I mean run for something dot org got six hundred running across the nation. They were not thing that existed two years ago the barrier for entry it's easier for people to to get involved in into running and getting involved in also like I think like at the adding like bold policies things like ending the electoral college. The Democrats were like we want to end this and fully behind it. And what the bulk SAT eight because I think it's even even Republicans can actually like slick not all Republicans, but some like moderate Republicans could even get behind because why should I think if you're a Republican California, your vote should count your vote should count your vote should it count? Any like some a democrat in Kansas vote shouldn't count more than your vote. Right. Like every. Vote should count. It would then because it would also galvanize for people to come out and vote then really make our country. Look the way it's supposed to in terms of local and state legislators, we are everybody loses from the electoral college. Democrats republicans. Everybody loses. It doesn't benefit anybody bullshit. Yeah. Average account. I think what we're talking about. Now is proof in the pudding that this election that we had the election results may not be what we want. But it is what we innocence. Need because we need to stay in action. We need to start talking about twenty twenty we need to start planning phone banking sessions. We need to stay on top of this shit. Because it's a it's still rolling. We're still Trump just yelled at a fucking press conference today. Some black person's although they were by racist already fired Jeff Sessions in house someone on plate who is even more conservative and against LGBTQ people already lined up to go gearing up to fire Mueller. So we need to stay activated in this election will keep me we'll activate it. We'll keep people going, and I really hope that Georgia has run off because that will keep the power going keep the voter action going keep people activated in politics. So we can't just disengage. So I also got it allows us all to kind of focus because we've. All been like working on different campaigns and soft all focus our efforts towards Georgia. Hell, yeah. We got this. So I feel like right now I feel activated. I feel positive by all the winds me. I feel athlete. Did it feels like game on this early? I played we're back in the game. Like lost your about Las election. We felt so out of the gate where we don't even her way back into it. And I think like you said, I think it I think it's something we all feel activated as citizens might Facebook feed. And I tried to I tried to text like all my I have like, you know, not nine aunts and uncles. I have forty six first cousins, I was texting my family being like don't forget to vote tomorrow. No, I was getting back what already voted voting here. And I'm one of the chats. They were debating one of the referendums. Oh, no. It's just worded wrongly. They're trying to get you to go. This. I some moaning as family, and I just love it. Because I when I went to the polls I got dressed up this year. I put on a little a tie vote just for myself. But I voted standing on on the ground for all those that came before me who were not able to go and even who are alive today. Lewer suppressed not able to vote. Yes. And it just feels like it's a new America. Argentina ration- is activated. And this is a lifelong commitment like this. Let's take a break. We are active voting always be active participants in our democracy. Because of we aren't they'll take it away from us. I don't want an ask garden we want a beautiful garden with tulips and saw. What's that Pablo? Got over there and some koalas. Out of there. But. Democracy. Neck, neck, k yeah, James. What's that? I wanna thank you. Thank you think. In me. I because you help pulled me out of I think the universe. You're my angel. You helped pull me out of my house gape. I also I was maybe a little hung over today to and sleep go to these meetings. But you cannot like, hey, folks, not me out because when you message meals like, oh, what did I that's what? Okay. And I wasn't a bit of a funk, and you kind of as soon as I talked to you. I started seeing of articles that was like look good for the top inning. And it just and you suddenly just wisdom foil. Thanks with with the full things. You know what I like wisdom? And I. Or to just continue doing the work that we've already been doing. I feel like you know, we learned we check and balance each other. Because you know, we also I wanna thank you. Because it's true. We need to also acknowledge the shit that happened. Yeah. You know, and we need to acknowledge that it causes pain, and it causes hurt. And we can't just gloss over it and be like. Good stuff happened because you know, what it's both sides of the coin. So I'm glad that you express yourself on Facebook because it's true people need to face this shit. And that's why I'm glad that we were able to cover both sides through the past because that's what it is with this country. If we don't do that, then something's going to be neglected. So thank you. It. Also does something else. Marianne Williamson said her lecture anything it's good to sort of wrap up on our politics is very shallow that we we talk about just surface levels things. And so we talked about the symptoms. Right. We talk about like, oh, this is the person that's winning or voter suppression. Or like, oh black people don't vote, but what's the cause of that? And we stick in deep to what's creating this. And that's what the news channel should really be doing. All they do is say this crazy thing happened, right? Right. But what why why is that? What's what's what's the root of it? And then you could inform people about the history of things. Yes. Journalism needs to be doing it over these next two years stop playing that man's rallies. Thought giving him all this free time and talk about the the the history thing says we as Americans don't know our history, and we are doomed to like voter suppression. It's back. It's back, you know, because we don't know their history. And so right. We need to take our politics into a deeper having shallow politics having deeper political conversations all the snaps to that. I'm going to say anything dumb and response to that. Because that was good that's often Marianne Williamson's lecture last night, which is so that I was like, oh, the universe wants me to communicate this to our listeners. So thank you for mentioning that if you ever go to one of her lectures, also she was in LA as well and across the country.
