"Any number of nasty characters, including the local kingpin played by Bill Duke and a surly gangster played by an amusingly typecast Ray Liotta. Jon Hamm turns up as a nosy police detective and looks right at home in the decade before mad men. Through it all Cheerful, and Del Toro, who have both worked with Soderbergh before maintain a nicely combative rapport, playing two very different men who have grown weary of their lives of crime. While Ronald plans to retire. Kurt has nobler intentions. He wants to pour some of the spoils back into the black communities in Detroit that have suffered heavily under racist housing policies and zoning laws. Those are just a few of the many social issues the movie touches on, including the tensions between the city's black and Italian populations and the disastrous environmental consequences of an unchecked automobile industry. These matters aren't always woven as smoothly into the story as they could have been, but they give no sudden move a potent edge nonetheless. Pulled in by the suave camera work and Hannah Bechler's rich mid century production design. But you're also made aware of the inequities churning beneath the surface. That social conscience is nothing new for Soderberg, who's made some of his best movies about working class drivers from Erin Brockovich. Two Magic Mike Here. He is less focused on individuals than an entire corrupt system showing us how the men in the executive suites are as crooked as the ones shooting each other in the streets. While no sudden move does feature a lot of awful male misbehavior, Soderbergh has always been just as interested in his female characters. And he doesn't neglect the crucial roles played by the women in this fifties gangland setting. Amy Seimetz Aqui force on the Soderbergh produced series. The Girlfriend Experience gives one of the movies best performances as Mark's wife, Mary. Unlike her feckless fool of a husband, she handles a scary situation with unflappable smarts and courage. There are other terrific actors to like Lauren Astrada, Julia Fox and Frankie Shaw. They may be playing house wives or mistresses or secretaries. But they all have an inner strength or defiant streak, a refusal to let the Kaddish and controlling men in their lives. Call the shots. I'd gladly follow any of them into movies of their own. Especially of Soderberg is around to direct them. Justin Chang is film critic for the L A Times he reviewed. No sudden move now streaming on HBO, Max. "Give back Let's unite the world for good. We are lions, you can be to visit we served out or g'kar. As we continue on with the pregame show, we go behind the bench of Blackhawks head coach Jeremy Collison. And tonight, Jeremy the Blackhawks are back on home ice to take on the Columbus Blue Jackets. The team is too old and three in their last five games, taking two out of a possible four points out of the two games in Nashville, with both of those games going to the extra session, and you've accrued points in five straight games, so going forward what we look to build on from that progression? Thought the defensive game was solid in Nashville, their particular the first two periods. We need to continue that continue the growth. They're just coming back home here. The urgency pressure on the puck Execution with the park. Those things can help us control the tempo of the game playing the offensive zone drop penalties just you know, it's important. We start on time, and we don't wait 10 minutes or a period to show the desperation that we need to win. You know, one so far, Shots on goal are concerned. The Predators got away a total of 81 shots over those two games down in Nashville. One of the boys need to do to bring that number down to a more acceptable level. Well, we need to sustain more his own time in the offensive zone. Protect the puck more, you know, forced them to defend that'll help. Obviously, I think In the second game. They had a lot of shots, but the chances were Well, we're solid, so that's important as well. If they are going to get sone time, making sure that we're good in our coverage, and we're sorting out, you know that who has sued down there and then when we do when the puck back Being quick to attack and being clean to attack so that they don't get 2nd 3rd 4th crack at it in our end, which typically that's where your breakdowns happen. All right, well, so you're younger players have been stepping up of late. It's been noticeable. Brandon Hagel, Philip Kirsch of and, Of course, Pew suitor of all been contributing in different ways. How great is it is the head coach to witness that progression and to see the team feed off their energy? Yeah, it's fun. No question, and she gives you a lot of excitement about The future. And, you know, certainly tonight what they can bring. But looking ahead next month, the month after The end of the season. We're going to keep getting better here as we go. We got a lot of young guys playing and playing minutes Z gonna help us. They're gonna improve and they're going to provide energy to the team and competition in depth and help us get to where we wanna go. You know, the Black Hawks organization went out and signed a veteran center and Carl Soderberg. He's 35 years old, but he seems to be in great shape, and he seems to be able to add to the mix. He's now played three games for the Hawks. How do you feel he's performed Yeah, It's uh, you know, he's still getting up to speed. I feel it's been it was tough with, you know, took us a long time to get him in, but he's a very professional. Guy. He understands how to play and where he's supposed to be. Compete level is excellent. He wins. A lot of 50 fifty's. That size is nice to add. Down the middle and you can play. You know both special teams. If we need it can be in big situations defensively, So you know, obviously we're down a couple centers, and he's gonna help fill that void. Okay. It's the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight in the first of two meetings over the weekend, and if you know, the Columbus Blue Jackets says, I know you do you know that they bring a lunch pail mentality to their games. They're known for winning games with hard work. They won't have Patrick Wine a available after the trade because immigration issues but that's really not for you to be concerned with, obviously, But what do your thoughts about the blue jackets and about how you'll need to be ready to play them tonight? Yeah, We know exactly what we're going to get what to expect. They're very tight. Structure, disciplined team. They're not going to give you a lot for free to make you come through five guys. Whenever they can. We gotta be prepared to match that work ethic. Be patient. Maybe it takes us, you know, 55 minutes to breakthrough. We've got to make them work for what they get and be sharp defensively and then have killer instinct when we do have been vulnerable, so it's a good challenge their their team that they're always in the mix because they don't beat themselves. I'm excited to see how we respond. Coming into training camp. People around the NHL that run talk shows and whatnot say they looked at the black card goaltending situation, and they said, Yeah, Malcolm Suban Colin Delia, and Who's That other guy, and that other guy was Kevin Lincoln and, and his name lately has been mentioned prominently on a number of NHL talk shows for a solid playing goal for the Blackhawks. Got points in all of his games. Too old and too, and I know he wants to keep that going. I don't know what your goaltending situation is going to be like tonight. That's part of the question. But has Lincoln and Splay made it a challenge for you as head coach in choosing your goaltender. Well, it's a good problem to have. He got multiple guys playing while Lincoln and we'll start tonight. The Gold Tang situation is it's a microcosm of how our team has been viewed, You know, not not a lot of people. Taken us down much success this year, and I think they've used that as Fuel to prove some people wrong. And that Zagat to be our mindset to is we're gonna We're gonna show that we're not going to quit here. We're gonna play hard. We're gonna be relentless. I will add it up the end. All right. Sounds like a plan. Jeremy. Thanks for this. And good luck to you. And the boys here tonight in the 1st 22 against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Thank you. That's black Ox head coach Jeremy College and we've been behind the bench with Jeremy Collison. Stay tuned, more up coming in the pregame show right after you hear these messages. This is Blackhawks hockey on 7 20. W. Gm. Different future starts with you..

"And we'll cover the park. 54 seconds left in overtime. Good chances at each end, but no blood 11. Still Patrick Kane in the defensive zone. Just not finding what he needs to do All this play by Yan Marco's off the post outside Did the other one off the skate back home. Yeah, gets another opportunity and it goes through with everybody yet marked with some great plays offensively and then defensively, they're struggling in their own end of the ice to try and figure out how they're going to defend the three on three. The drop to the right of Lincoln and with 54 seconds left in OT. Gala on the draw for the Preds against David Camp of the Hawks camp wins the drop to Murphy. He'll carry it behind the net out to the far side, dropping the puck off the Carl Soderberg. Passing ahead. David Campers center ice Crossing the press line left circle, firing a shot on how a block that to the corner Soderbergh in to try and get it, but was taken back by the preds instead. And spun behind the net around and up the near side to Yosi. "The United Center tonight looking for their first road win, while the Hawks they just want to win period high and everyone John Weidman, along with Troy Murray and Chris Boden, we want to welcome you into our broadcast and Welcome you back to the United Center. It's been a long time. Troy. Since I've been able to see that March 11th of 2020 when the Blackhawks played the San Jose Sharks and seemed like the world shut down after that, we had no more games to talk about here. He eventually did get to work during the summer in the playoffs, which was cool. And then finally, this season came back around in the month of January, and we're all happy about it. It's great to see them playing hockey on this ice surface right now, and it troubles our hearts to know that the greatest fans in hockey are not among us here. That's going to come in time. But for tonight we have an original six rivalry that I know you was a player love to take part in. Welcome back, but well, thank you. I remember that, like it was yesterday. The N B A. If you recall it. Postponed their season that night breaking news that the MBA was postponing their season. So you knew something was gonna happen, But I don't think anybody had a clue. But but what? Actually Was going to happen just an incredible amount of time here that we've dealt with this pandemic and it's not over yet. And we wish everybody who was dealt with the issue. All the best in every way. I know from heartbreak and It's just been tough. But we're happy to be back here at the United Center, doing what we love to do, and that's called the games and I'm excited to see this rivalry blossom again this season, the first of eight between these two Original six rivals, and for so many years I was a part of it in the old North division throughout the eighties and The Blackhawks. The older players were a part of it while they were still in the same division, so it's changed a little bit. Obviously, you don't see him all that much. But I'm excited for this opportunity here at the United Center to see these two teams play. It's a very meaningful game. Um, Red Wings is we've talked about it, Chris said to wood to all on home Ice Blackhawks getting their first taste here at the United Center looking for their first victory, so should be exciting. Should be good. Now it is the home opener, and that means that there are ceremonies involved before the start of the action here tonight, right now. Members of the team that are primarily part of the taxi squad being introduced right now, and some injured players taking part in this. It's great to see Brent Seabrook come to the Blackhawks bench and give a wave to everybody. He's dealing with back issues will get to his segment here in a minute, along with That of John Seabrook could wave to the crowd. The young guys, they can't That would be a little too much. That's right. That's exactly right. Well, let's get to some sponsored items right now, starting with the injury report it sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, the card to carry through it all. I'll go ahead and start with veteran Brent Seabrook. He is on injured reserve with back issues and we're hoping he'll he left real soon would be great to see him back in the lineup and of course long term injured. Reserve for Alex. Knee Lander. Jonathan Tapes, Blackhawks captain And Kirby Doc, all with different ailments. We wish all of those gentlemen all the best and hope to see them back into the line up real soon, and now the Blackhawks regular players introduced down below us on the ice surface. Let out of the tunnel by Blackhawks goaltender Malcolm Suban and followed by Colin Delia, Kevin Lankan and then companies. So it Z gonna continue on as it usually does the kid. Let's get to tonight's keys to the game. Troy if we can, they're sponsored by Bud Light. Hey, there's a Bud light there. Go get him with the keys. Thanks, John, the first key And they kind of talked about this. They want to get off to a really good start here. You know, they played four games on the road. They're back home. Familiar surroundings. Get off to a good start. That's that's the key here, and the second key is they don't want to chase this game. They haven't had the lead, but about half a minute. Yeah. This so they they just can't keep chasing the game. Get off to a good start score the first goal. Don't fall behind and then chased the game. I mean, everything has to adjust and Jeremy College and has to look at his vengeance. And try and figure out where he's going to get those goals from where you're gonna have that comeback ability in the last game. They did it a couple times, but you don't want to keep put yourself in that position. The third key is keep working on the defensive structure. Still too many breakdowns Jeremy Collins and talks about it. Is there still a work in progress, and that's true, but I thought we saw some signs that it was heading in the right direction in the last game, and hopefully they continue that here in their own and tonight and play better. Defensive. All right. Thanks for those keys. Try it. Now at the the Introductions. Continue way see some new faces in the lineup in these these guys have played four games together, all on the road down in Tampa, and, of course down in South Florida. Team record now old, three and one, But trending, I'll say are the Blackhawks in the correct direction. They picked up their first point in that last game down there went to overtime. I think that their confidence is built with each passing games. Yeah, and you look at these. These younger players that they organization really wants to get a look at it. They actually made a move. To give these guys another opportunity. Brandon period was sent to the taxi squad. Carl Soderberg is with the team skated yesterday for the first time. You know when he's available, he's going to fit in there. Everybody was kind of. Well, you know Jeremy Collins and said, You know, we want to see what the young guys could do. And yet you're saying OK, Well, Brandon period didn't sent to the taxi squad. And Carl, Sir Soderbergh is with the team. Um He wasn't talking about all sort of burden. When he made those comments he was talking about what a few suitor has done, and Philip Curtis shatters done. You want to see them because you know what Brandon period could do. And.
