"In here the Snohomish County Courthouse. The court documents do list three potential charges against him. Murder, having a concealed pistol without a license to carry one and that weapon investigators say had its serial number ground off. The defense argued in court that there's just not sufficient evidence for charges but the prosecutor argued otherwise and asked for bail to be bumped up from $1 million to $5 million. There is a likely danger that you will commit a violent crime, that you will seek to intimidate witnesses or otherwise interfere. Commissioner Jennifer Millet set bail at $5 million and added a host of other conditions that he would have to abide by should he make bail and get out of jail. That's come before us Denise Whitaker, New Mexico's governor declaring open and concealed carry guns illegal in the state's most populated areas 30 for days as a way of reducing gun crimes but police in New Mexico are pushing back saying enforce that kind of ban. It's a public health order law enforcement leaders in New Mexico say their officers and deputies will not enforce around Albuquerque. Bernalillo County Sheriff John Allen says he will not take legal guns away from the public he serves. The temporary ban challenges the foundations of our Constitution but most importantly it is unconstitutional. The governor said state police would enforce it it's unclear to what extent. Having to endure COVID-19 is bad enough for most of us, including children, but when it comes to other complications, it can be devastating to the body. Some children have developed miss C or multi system inflammatory syndrome, a rare but potentially life threatening condition that can impact different parts of the body, like the heart, lungs, or brain Researchers at the Cleveland clinic have looked into why some kids develop miss C and it appears to have a genetic component. Doctor Robert silverman was part of the study. The exciting thing about this study is it's really the first indication of a genetic cause. It gives rise to mechanistic studies. So how did these mutations result in the sea? According to the CDC, more than 9000 cases of miss C have been reported in the U.S. with the average age being 9 years old. The study shows the underlying genetic cause in a small number of cases. It could lead to breakthroughs or discoveries about other chronic viral infections. That I'm a model and other data really suggest that even when we're done with this peak, hopefully in the next month we don't settle back down to the base where we were, uh, previously We don't get back to you know, the roughly 3% of the hospital being full with Covid. If you look at I m H s data really argues that you know, will be holding on to 10 to 12% of our beds with Covid patients in it, Uh, potentially for the winter. That is, we don't have 10 to 12% extra capacity and the health system either in space or in people Now, on top of that, So Kobe is the first head when they're the second major headwind. Is the flu. We know that the flu comes around every year. We didn't have one last year because people didn't gather and we didn't mass or people masked if we this year don't mask and we gather We're gonna be back to a regular flu season. And for those who argue that nobody's really dying from this good at the death rate is in soaring and that people aren't dying. But the amount of people that are getting incredibly sick and maybe on oxygen for the rest of their life or have limitations on what they can do. To me themselves. Is impacting our ability to get blood to get people to provide their to be able to have space to care for you So don't just say I won't die from Covid. It's no biggie. You're going to die, potentially because you get in a car accident, 95, and there's nowhere to provide care of you. There's no space for you. There's no blood supply to take care of you when you got that critical internal bleeding because you're busted your spleen in your car accident, so Please don't think that it's only about Covid. It's about every other disease that is getting impacted. Now there is a little bit of good news. The I H M Me. Yes, Absolutely. Absolutely. And I had just been that had been in effect. Actually, King County had already done that. NPR's county had already, uh, done that. And now that this is a statewide thing that the governor has expanded, it expanded it to and it's a good idea. I was at the Green Day concert, um, a week ago today. And there that was the last one in King County. You could go to and not be masked. And at least half if not much more of the people there were not masked up. Yeah. Now I was shopping in Snohomish County yesterday. A I didn't notice anybody messed up in the stores is you have to mask up on the stores to now. You are supposed to be masked up, and there's an indoor mask mandate. You bet everyone is that is a state level indoor mask and Kelly's can't opt out of that one. No, they're not. They cannot And I think believes several of the counties have done that on their own as well. I do have seen folks in Snohomish County who don't do that. There are people out there who were specifically waiting for the vaccine to the FDA approved before they were willing to get vaccinated, and we're hoping now that approval has happened that they will move forward and get vaccinated as quickly as possible. Frederic reminds us that it can take a few weeks before we see any effects from increasing vaccinations and the statewide mask mandate, But he says they need you to go along with it to push the numbers down, he says. In the latest City Council study session, police chief Mike Cocky talked about increases in violent crime hotspots for crime increases in 911 call response times and a need for more officers on the street. But there was also discussion about diverting some calls when an armed officer isn't necessary. Deputy Mayor Keith Blocker says the current model isn't working that it lacks equity and that those hot spots are usually in poorer areas where they should invest in things like drug and mental health treatment. Having more officers never made me feel safer. What makes me feel safe is knowing that I'm around stable people in the community that is healthy, The chief says. "From Snohomish County to Pierce County. The National Guard might be staying in Washington D. C for several more months. According to an internal memo. Guard troops could be posted until the fall about 25,000 National Guard troops were sent to the nation's capital head of President Biden's inauguration. January 20th. Dr. Anthony Fauci is giving hopeful news about the impact of the vaccines against the Corona virus variant from the United Kingdom on ABC is this week, Dr Fauci said. Both vaccines work well against it. And he adds that the best way to protect yourself against any serious health risks is to make sure you get vaccinated and felt. She also made another push for Americans to follow public health measures in order to add another layer of protection. Former President Donald Trump. Second impeachment trial is now in the books, and that should allow current President Joe Biden to get back to his agenda. And ABC News correspondent Elizabeth Scholesy who covers the White House is on the R news line this morning, Elizabeth What's the focus going to be now that this distraction is out of the way? Hey, great to be with you guys. So it is all about this coronavirus relief package. The President Biden is trying to push for the packages for nearly $2 trillion in economic relief. We know that it's making its way through the committees in the House. Right now, and President Biden is that's what he's he's focusing on now, he says. We need to address the pandemic. We know that throughout the trial, he really did stay away from commenting on the proceedings and essentially said his priority as it's been from Day one is getting the pandemic under control and trying to get the economy back on track. There were some pretty dramatic twists and turns in the impeachment trial over the weekend, did President Biden comment after it was all said, and done? You know, so he did. He did release a statement at the end of the proceedings, essentially striking a pretty solemn tone about what we saw Throughout the week he focused on the violence of the Capitol attack and said, This is a time we need to remember and move on and come together After this, you know this dark chapter. He did also make a point of highlighting that seven Republicans, of course, voted to convict former President Trump, which was of the most bipartisan impeachment conviction vote. In history, And then he actually used Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell words kind of against him and saying that even those who oppose the conviction still think Donald Trump was guilty. And so he's trying to use that as a way to say we can come forward, even if the vote didn't reflect that kind of immunity. Bipartisanship. We're starting to see a little bit of a pattern on weekends with the president and first lady reacting like many Americans do after a long week and just sort of chilling out what did they do over the weekend? We are so so President Biden was at Camp David over the weekend. He was keeping a very low profile. We we didn't hear from him publicly, and he's not going to be back until this afternoon. You know, spending the holiday weekend like many of us would have if we weren't covering the impeachment trial, But certainly you know, a lot quieter on the weekends at the White House, and it was under the Trump administration, and this is something Many had expected from President Biden. I will note that he has a busier week ahead. Now he is going to be making his first official trip of his presidency tomorrow to Wisconsin, where he's going to be doing a town hall event. And on Thursday he's also going to be going to Michigan to tour a Corona virus vaccine facility in Michigan. So he is still ramping up the agenda a little bit during the week, but certainly quieter on the weekend Here in Washington.
