"Right. Alright, Unpopular beverage is making a comeback, Thanks to Millennials Millennials been blamed for killing all kinds of things. The diamond industry weddings, bar soap, but now they're bringing Things back, and they're starting with instant coffee. Folders and other instant coffee brands are coming back in a big way. And, according to the CEO of Smucker's who owns soldiers, they said it is one of the brands that has benefited the most since the pandemic. I think people are just snorting lines of coffee. Now. I think that's why it's popular way learned. And I give millennials credit. Although technically I think I'm just missed being a millennial by a year, So I think I'm Azania. Whatever that is, but I think we popularized the idea that you can snort anything. Millennials really were able to capitalize on that. And I think that that is why instant coffee is is big. I think that the cold brew they go. How can we make coffee more powerful than cold brew will just North the folders directly into our nostrils About 46% of people say they will not attempt trick or treating this year, which means the majority of people still are against CDC orders but sour Patch kids. They are running a reverse trick or treating campaign. They say We're saving Halloween across the U. S with a reverse trick or treating the candy comes to you, and we could come to your city. So they will pick select cities across the US and deliver sour patch kids straight to your front door so that you don't have to go anywhere to get it. Are they dressed up as the characters because that would be very exciting because if they're not, I could drive less than a mile. To a rite aid and buy as many of those as I would like. So you have someone to show us the Giants our fetch. Yes, that will make it 50 times more scared. The correct effect. Reverse trick or treating is such a great idea because you get all the joy of the trick or treating. But you get all of the laziness. So the concept of people bringing candy directly to you is so much bad. Disagree. I know at the hunt. I like the hunt. You don't know what you're going to get from the different houses that you're going to. Yeah, but if you know it's sour patch kids, which is always it's top can As far as I'm concerned, we can all do not make small talk with the dumb neighbour who's a dentist giving ATF loss. So you just go right to that stuff. Biding.

"Are we really returning to normalcy here. Despite the twenty one point, five million people collecting unemployment benefits, is this the fatal v-shaped recovery that so many people were hoping for well. That's what the market saying. The average didn't do much damaging up twelve points Klein espy climbed point four percent Nasdaq losing point six nine percent. See, that's the problem. I think we're looking at a v-shaped recovery, but it's shape recovery in the stock market. And that has almost nothing to do with v-shaped recovery India Konami. Prosper live. When you look at the Nasdaq, one tech heavy index that briefly hit an all-time high today. It sure doesn't seem indicative of the border jobs picture, and most of the moves that response. Before they were games, we had were from airlines and hotels and casinos, all which I put into so-called less bad category less than we thought a turn. The a few more days report does Peter out and people to a lot of fast game and other but. It does Peter out. It's kind of musical chairs. How can the market rebound without the economy? Because the market doesn't represent the economy, it represents the future of big business. The bigger the business work moves the major averages in that matters. This is the first recession. We're big business along of course with bigger wealth, but that's centrally by show is coming through virtually unscathed if not. Going for the gold. Small Business. The ones that are on publicly traded. They're dropping like flies at drug. Government mandated shutdown. Who's their non essential and the people that work there non essential? It's hard enough to run a small business. How about the Governor says you? You're clothes lower says I don't care. That's the thing about this pandemic. It's been one of the greatest wealth transfers in history, and it's a wealth transfer that was mandated by the state. I think the we'll have it. All have a horrible factor in our country, but we barely begun to see the impact. Still we just got some figures from the American bankruptcy institute that will chill both Republican and Democrat. That's right the today's numbers so a forty eight percent jump in chapter eleven bankruptcy filings. That's that pesky real world asserting itself, but the only bank receipt we've seen in the stock market is Hertz. Now I'm not trying to blame the government for this. The Treasury Department's practically shoveling small businesses. They can't find another store. One hundred, eighty, six, billion with the paycheck protection program. The companies that took the money just got a big break. They only need to spend sixty percent on their employees to get loans forgiven down from the original seventy five. That's important. It's most small businesses fail because they can't afford to pay the rent, they can cut back on labor. They can skip the product. They can figure out ways to work more efficiently, but they can't lower the darn rent and from what we can tell. There hasn't been much forbearance from the major landlords, but in the end the stimulus package probably won't be enough for one simple reason, and it's an odd one. That's not talked about enough. It's not gonNA work because of social distancing. Social distancing has become the real bane of small business and a boon to large once again. Well, that's not really anybody's fault. Oppressive terrible outcomes. Lately we've seen we've been seeing some real improvements in the coronavirus numbers over. That's only happening due to the widespread adoption of mass. And social distance guidelines the problem though is that it's very hard to make money at a restaurant or a retail, or if you're not allowed to. If you gotta wear masks at a bar. Such a buzzkill and you can't have crowds anywhere in the restaurant. And she was employed about fifteen million people social, distancing means losing a ton of tables and a lot of bar space. The ladders brutal, because alls where the real money is, but for big business. Let me give you a concrete example. I walked through this and I decided. This is how I am going to explain it because it keeps alluding people driving me crazy, COSCO. Last customer ports magnificent five point four percent for sales go to I is last year Wall Street is only looking for one point six percent they also saw an incredible hundred six percent pickup in ECOMMERCE Herbie one. Oh, six. The stock moved up four points and appreciation while everything else got clobbered in second. Costco as separate lowest in retailers, Costco has a simple ethos. They try to focus on a small number of producers where they can move us vibes that security some terrific bargains for their customers. They don't try to make.
The Away-From-Home Challenge
"We're GONNA START WITH COCA COLA. First QUARTER AND REVENUE FOR COCA COLA. Came in higher than expected. What stood out to you in this report because what stood out to me was how much Coca Cola. Depends on what they refer to as the away from home channel. Yeah I think in terms of It wants you hear it it. It becomes Kind of what? You might have expected if you had been thinking a lot about the business of coke but the away from home Channel is off. I think fifty percent Since the sort of global lockdowns a stay at home has occurred so the numbers for the the whole quarter. Don't come out really nearly as badly because people stocked up For Coke and water and orange juice and now they're having stocked up not going to be buying as much but This whole away from home. You're talking about theaters. You're talking sporting events you're talking about convenient stores. Picking something up at the gas station All of that Is is way way way off fifty percent? That's for a company. The size of coke. That's pretty impressive. Yeah I mean you throw in restaurants and bars and Yeah it's it's as you said once you start to think about it it makes perfect sense and I'm curious to see how quickly they can bounce back from this and I guess we're going to get at least an additional data point this weekend when the state of Georgia opens for business to a degree that a lot of other states are not open and we see well how many people are going back to these venues. And and what is the activity like because you can wave a magic wand and said we're going to open up all the restaurants and bars. I still think the majority of people are just going to stay right where they are and I think that for Coca Cola. It's good that they've got the distribution network. They have because it seems like the away from home channel is going to be slow to ramp back up so Georgia well. You know you're going and you're you're getting a tattoo or you're getting a massage because those are two of the main things that are being opened in Georgia. Of course you're going to have a coke. So that's gotTa help gymnasiums as well. You know planet fitness. Exactly if you're if you're getting I mean who who's not working out with a couple of folks to be fair they do. They do have dishonesty. their water brand so yes and it is the home of Coq Georgia Atlanta Georgia. So I think that It's it's an restaurants I think are opening up bars in the Georgia border It you know. This is a a a fraction of fraction of their global sales But you know places around the world Slowly opening up As other places in other hemispheres are locking down more. So there's going to be a rolling Improvement in the small locations and geographies while others are Coming down and the result of that is for coke as it is with so many others You know we can't give guidance right now. So that's part of the Hit that the share price took earlier is not that big deal but I think that it's off one or two percent other sort of staples consumer staples Are still able to. In many cases give guidance and coke is is not because of the degree to which it's tied into entertainment You know it's major push for advertisement. This year of course was going to be the Olympics. That's off the table. They'll save some money on the advertising but that was the twenty twenty plan was to organize around the Olympics well and when you talk about consumer staples companies maintaining their gyns. Today we also had jammed smucker come out and the AARP second quarter. Earnings report doesn't come out. I think for another four or five weeks but SMUCKER raised its guidance for rest of the fiscal year. I was a little surprised by that until I remembered that J. M. smucker also has a pet food segment under their brand umbrella and I the pet food segment has to be helping them. As to be a people stocked up one of their brands milk. Bones I know our dogs are getting more milk bones Right now every day than they typically get given them streets. Hopefully my kids are giving them Some milk bones right now to keep them quiet while we record and that's actually a fairly large part of the business. Is The pet brands. Not just milk bounds but nine lives and A number of other things And also people are getting dogs They're S- could news for a pet shelters that the number of people have have gone and Found a pet there and Anyway that that's a little bit marginal for smokers but good news for dogs around the around the country
You Shouldn't Need a PhD in Nutrition to Read a Food Label
"If you care about what's in your food you should listen closely to this conversation because it's about the food and Drug Administration on how asleep at the wheel in protecting us from harmful chemicals and antibiotics and even bad nutrition information now. The FDA regulates food labels which is a prime example of how the agency fails the public there the liberally misleading and confusing which serves the interests of big food. But not the rest of us a Jerry Mandy. Who is now professor Tufts Nutrition who was key part of the administration in the Obama Administration worked on food labels at the FDA and the USDA any said food companies. Don't want you to know what's in their products so they deliberately make their ingredients hard to read a lot of companies. Use All capital letters squishing. Together he's very small font size. Maybe one sixteenth of an inch ladder the results. Are you look at most food packages? And it's hard to read the ingredient list They're also required these companies to list the ingredients in order of their predominance. But that doesn't tell you how much is in the package. For example is sugar is the second ingredient list on the package. It doesn't tell you if it's thirty percent or five percent. Have you ever picked up? A jar of strawberry jam. Supermarket looked at what's in. It jarred smucker Strawberry Jam Lewis Strawberries at the first reading. Okay sounds good in the second. Third and fourth ingredients are high fructose corn syrup Corn Syrup and sugar now. This is a very common tactic. Which is they create different kinds of sugars which they don't have to list sugar as the number one ingredient which it actually is we know from investigations that these companies often use five different sugars in their products. So they don't show high on the list and you shouldn't have to have a PhD in nutrition and biochemistry to understand a food label. Which kind of do now. Even I have studied these. For years I understand attrition deeply. I mean it's a little confusing. I mean what's a gram of sugar? I don't know well I know it's four grams per teaspoon but most people don't know and many things are on labels that don't make any sense to well things like mono and Douglas Rides Carrageenan Maltodextrin. Soy Levinson's it's in everything. These most fires and additives are big warning. Sign to drop the package

Do you notice that professional? Segue. That was awesome. I am impressed that just kind of worked itself right in there things that in the tech industry in our consumer lifestyle digital lifestyle that just didn't go as expected, I of which anytime you're talking Turkey in tech. It starts with smucker Burke, Mark Zuckerberg Facebook, are you still on Facebook? I still have a Facebook account. But I check in maybe once a year then but used to do a lot more often. Yeah. Scheme out when it was really cool. I I had a high school reunion. And so it was really cool that I could kind of keep up with all my high school buddies. But then it was like farmville and all that and it just got further and further away. And I finally kind of just don't even check it. They had that massive scandal. Of course, have Cambridge Analytica them eighty-seven accounts. And then there was like another fifty million accounts. And yeah, then there's messenger breaches. And then what's going on with fake news? I mean, it's just been a complete nightmare. And now, we have the the couple of heads of Facebook, Zuckerberg and Sandberg they're like fighting with each other saying, it was your fault, your dear boy, I know. At the end of the day Zuckerberg was called to Capitol Hill. You remember him sitting there on the booster seat, drinking juice boxes? Not kidding. He would have been better off showing up in a hoodie. But the guy is a billionaire. He doesn't need to do this anymore. He's saying that he's not going to resign. But meanwhile, people are leaving Facebook in droves and droves. And the story just kind of keeps on going and going and going it seems like every week something else comes out about. Well, they did this. Well, it seems like they're doing this. And then they deny then it comes out that it's true. And then they are also I think they're biting the head that feeds them in the small business owners and businesses that unless you want your people to see what you've told them you've got a boost opposed for a thousand bucks. You're kidding me. Right. And then Campbell Brown who's in charge of their programming says if you don't like it, then you can leave many people are we're leaving. We talked a little bit about bitcoin in the last hour. So many people said that this is gonna be the next gold rush. We need to buy bitcoin. I never really bought it. Did you buy any bitcoin? I never do. I mean, it was at the high of nineteen thousand. Thousand five hundred dollars. Now, it's at forty eight hundred dollars of bitcoin virtual currency hackers minors. Everybody was getting involved, and it's a Ponzi scheme. You know, it's a it's a pyramid scheme. And I know people say, oh, no one's not camp. Well, you know, if you have money in your bitcoins, and you invested a year ago, you just saw the value just plummet we did a podcast on the bitcoin. And I as I remember our expert was saying, it's really not backed by the power of a country or or no our of of of some some thing. It's just a commodity that can be bought and sold. It's not really money. Oh, no. It's not at all. And so if you save your bitcoins. And you lose your hard drive. Yeah. Yeah. There goes next on our list is Google, plus we had a Google plus account for many many years here for the show never really truly amounted to anything and then Google says, well, you know, we had five hundred thousand accounts that were breached on Google. Plus so rather than trying to fix it. Nobody uses it anyway, just shut it down. So they just shut it down. So people who were depending upon Google, plus they just went off to Lovisa like overnight. Guber? Of course that happened here in Tempe. Arizona ten pm on a Sunday in March. A woman was struck at thirty eight miles per hour. She was walking her bike cross a dark street in Tempe. Arizona. And as it turns out that Uber safety driver. Do you? Remember the safety driver minds. Yeah. There wasn't. He wants a TV show or something. He was binge watching something on Netflix. Wow. And that was the safety driver. And of course, then over is taken off the streets. They say they're coming back, which is interesting because the Uber cars, you've heard me talk just fascinated by that self driving cars a lot of people are freaked out that there is no way for them to stop a self driving car. So with you didn't have the safety driver as you're going along the street, if you really wanted to stop the car, well that was the biggest deterrent people actually getting in there. So Google did some research, and they found out that when people were first afraid to get into elevators the because there was a person in the elevator is that they would put the stop button. And then suddenly people were okayed again delegators because they had that stop on the self driving cars, we have a stop button. But obviously. We need more than the stop button. We need a person to actually push it and pay attention. They're putting a stop button in the back seat for the for the passengers. Yes. Oh, I didn't know that this way people feel more comfortable would you get in a self driving car because they're about ready to launch Waymo and several cities. Yeah. Would I get into? No, absolutely not. It's too early. I mean, you know, it's too early maybe someday. But no, I wouldn't trust them. Now, we do have a rule of thumb here at the Kim Komando show. Never be that one point. Oh, yeah. Okay. Are right? Scooter wars have you been travelling around to major cities Santa Monica, Los Angeles, Chicago even here in Phoenix. There are the scooters. Have you seen the scooters? Yes. I have a friend of mine works in the emergency department. At the mayo clinic, and she was telling me that they have never seen so many people coming into the with scooter accidents, then right now because people get on a scooter, they don't wear helmets protective padding they rented because that's what happens you can rent a scooter with an app, a couple of bucks, and then you can ride around town fifteen minutes, I think is like ten dollars or something like that or five dollars, whatever it may be. And then the cities are getting ticked off because people are leaving scooters all around the city. I mean, we have that here in Phoenix. Right. I mean, you've seen the bikes on the side of the road. Yep. Yep. In parks and just kinda tipped over. And you know, thrown aside in parks and in broke broken. Bikes, and you know. See him everywhere. Well, I was I was on a run last weekend. I saw from the lime company I saw green bike. And I thought you know, I've never actually seen the bike up close. I've only driven by them. And it's a crappy bike. I mean, you know, you're not talking about like this is a good mountain bike or a good speed by quarter. Maybe it is a basic cruiser that has no frills. But again littered on the side people are getting so ticked off that they positioning the cities to say take these bikes and scooters and these companies out of our streets. Some people are tipping them over other people are there's been like like people are shooting them with guns. Yeah. I I actually was on a walk the other day and was walking down the sidewalk and there was one parked across the sidewalk just blocking the sidewalk nobody there. And then some people are actually smearing feces. Oh, boy on them, which is bad. Okay. All right, then we have big phones and little phones. How big is your phone or a little phone? This is like a medium size phone. What's it about six inches? Maybe. Yeah. That's a pretty big phone. Okay. Well, you remember palm pilots little things that would keep you keep track of all your whole life. And what's called a palm pilot? Yeah. Okay. So palm is back. So the whole idea is that you'd have your big phone gave Jude carry around and then a mini phone and then a little foam. So when you wanted to have the big phone, you have that then you have the little phone is three hundred fifty bucks, and it measures three point three inches long. But the crazy part is it's not really a phone. It's a stripped down version that is a companion of your phone. So you've kind of gotten to a point where your phone needs a phone. It looks it looks like you could get like hold it with two fingers. Wait, it looks like a little little phone of a phone. So so those are just some turkeys in the mess and three hundred and fifty bucks. I didn't spend three hundred fifty bucks on my phone. But now you need a phone phone. You know, it's actually kind of crazy if you look at pricing. I mean, the ipad pro is seven hundred and fifty dollars. If you want to get the maximum storage on that. I had pro how much do you think it's going to cost you over a thousand pretty close seven hundred fifty bucks. Oh, no. It's an additional seven hundred. Fourteen hundred fifteen hundred bucks. Yes. Yes. So it's like so you can buy your ipad. It's kind of like, okay. Well, you can do that. But if you really want everything you're going to have to spend another seven fifty to get the maximum storage, which that's why you wanna talk about the cloud because we start talking about the cloud. Everything is safely and securely right stored in the cloud and few abotions compared to the anguish the frustration the sinking sensation in your stomach when you realize that you've lost your laptop, your hard disk, your computer and all the contents on the one that you own. We just earned Brenda talking or memories were sitting there if you use and rely on your computer, you know, that there's a risk that someday somehow that computer is going to fail you Rendez savings. Grace is that that hard drive was still intact. In our memories were still there most likely it's going to be your fault. I mean, so I always knew, I mean, you're going to report you. So I mean, I, I knew that was from relations. I can even tell you Galatian, six, seven, but above the desk, there was this big sign and I had missed part of relations. It said, be not deceived. God is not mocked. Saw an at somebody's listening who is not religious while you can use the word good instead of God. If you want be not deceived good or God is not mocked for whatsoever a man. So with he will also reap and I asked about it and they told me, I'm sorry, it was their father was the grandfather who had that above his desk because entire life. And he said, this is what. We, this is why we exist as a company and so they don't lie. They don't have people around them lie, and they all practice the golden rule of trading people like they would like to be treated themselves on like what you see in so many other companies where it's all about the CEO it's all about the ego. It's all about the shortcuts. It's all about taking advantage of customers, a taking advantage of suppliers. It just didn't happen any of these companies. And so that's why I chose to begin that book with that that quotes from glaciers. One other notable code wanna share with the listeners out there who are more of us. I'm Judeo Christian, my wife and I have five kids all of which are currently Judeo Christians. But for those out there who are more of a secular perspective, we've hundreds of thousands of listeners. I wanna make sure I keep fair and balanced. Napoleon hill once wrote, he said, nature cannot be tricked or cheated. She will have up the object of your struggles only after you have paid. Her price, and it's just that's a powerful teaching moment. And I'd like to if I can ask you about your literary career, you've paid the guess you've paid the price. What? What price have you paid to get your first book published? Because that's as I was researching you. I thought Jason I can do ten shows just about the price that you paid to get to where you are. How have you paid the price? The price was the price was a huge one. And so let me you already mentioned the back story. In your nice introduction. I was in the broadcasting business and the consulting business and almost twenty years ago at age forty. I basically had my life crisis. I was alone at home one day. I'm sitting in the family room in the sofa and I went to get up and physically I could get up, but I just plop back down and I went his that other is I just gotta keep buying radio stations and growing. "You have a month or you have thirty by the time it's it's you know it's kind of like well when it works for you you need to change it so pretty vague at least that's my understanding of what so here's the j m smucker company which of course i always kind of had a kind of thought they were really good company because they're you know i think jams jellies and that kind of stuff you know but they apparently they own a number of pet foods and they've been in the in the the alerts here you know in the last six months there have been several of their foods have been involved in recalls and some stuff so just saying why is it why is the ainsworth pet nutrition well this is the company that makes the rachel ray dog food then cow dude line okay so smucker is buying essentially buying the line of rachel ray stuff well now rachel raise foods just so you know in in my opinion are not the highest quality foods that you can feed but they are available at the grocery store level so you know like they have them on the shelf at fred meyer so that's where i go and read labels and they really are the best you can buy in a grocery store of the best formulas and like i said they're not they're not the highest quality but they certainly aren't you know the the bottom of the barrel and it it's a decent ingredient read at this point but now that smucker's taken over by them who knows what's going to happen so i'm just telling you if you're you're feeding rachel race food stuff you wanna you wanna pay attention to you know your animal friends and and how they're doing and and that sort of thing because who knows if you're gonna you know if they're gonna if they address the label thing if they change things we just don't know but so i'm just it's just a precaution and then that's up on animal world facebook then the other thing and this is also up this came out from truth about pet food dot com warning letter to darwin's darwin's courses is a a local roof raw food maker in in our area they're based.

"That that you wanna look for on pet food labels because it indicates that the product has been through irradiation and this article that i have posted there is is a column that was written by dr michael fox you know who's our wonderful policing over light a veterinarian and who has written so many great things remember i had him in the studio and the komo days when his book eating with conscious consciousness came out and a fabulous book anyway so an article here on food irradiation and that is the cause of o of that that he believes it is sickening animals and he comes up with what may be a very plausible explanation for the deaths related the animal sickness and death related to the chicken jerky treats coming out of china okay well he say in this article he thinks it could be because of the radiation these products are put through so you definitely if you buy food and treats for your animal friends you wanna see this column you want to see the symbol so you know what it looks like because dr michael fox and al aunt martha's say by irradiated food your animal friends especially and then that that could be the kicker on the chinese jerky treats i don't know if they even put the symbol on the bags i don't know if it's if you have to if it's required and i doubt anybody's policing who knows so anyway the j m smucker company is purchasing ainsworth pet nutrition now why is this an issue well typically when when a smaller companies make good foods and the and the food gets popular enough and it selling enough and we're making enough money well then a big corporation buys them out and then what happens well even though they promise it'll stay the same and all of this then they generally start lowering the quality of ingredients in order to make more money and and that's really a shame and then of course what we some of the information we know from susan fixed and in truth about pet food dot com there there are some rules but they aren't being enforced about how how soon companies are required to change their labels reflecting ingredients changes that's one of the the the article says that came into the subjects that came up that susan addressed recently let's see probably would find information on that on the animal.
