"To turn back to cinema inspired by rich jews. We asked deep dive published on belle. Recently we spent the last week revisiting. The era of the erotic thriller and we jumped into a few of our blind spots erotic thriller. I just want to say to my favorite words in the english language. It's so a specific moment in time. I mean i really think. Fatal attraction in the eighties happened but really specifically and early nineties phenomenon. Every movie was like bright and gray. And like jeremy irons was in everything. Yeah men are slick and melodramatic dramatic men. That's like a dessert quality missing from movies. Recently i think my generation was so unfair that the only things we really got were like fifty shades of grey but beyond that this us doing this segment is my new foray into erotic thrillers and come out this chain woman. I already know I already they are so much fun. It's it's weird. That i feel like i grew up on them but it was like they were my grandmother's favorite fails so there was always like a vhs jagged edge oh to the tv i seen clips of it before probably on tv but i recently watched single white female really in its entirety for the first time because The new netflix show that i'm working on Which is from Darren star myself king. Yes in the writer's room with don roose who wrote single white female. Oh my gosh. Votes erected the opposite of sex also love. Yes talking to him about that film. Strike is so wild to that. We don't have those films anymore. And i feel like they're not even films that are made for streaming services. It would very appropriate to be making these kinds of thrillers for like a netflix. or something. right. Yeah right right. It'd be enjoyable. I feel like renaissance is coming. Something i love about them too and i just reached body of evidence for this assignment. So i'm thinking specifically about this movie but it really coalesce things about like hitchcock like longing glances between like a male and a female character like do i trust her does she trust him etc. Film-noir you know the some vitelle type characters there's also of course the movie patel with Rebecca remain and in the case of basic instinct. But a lot of these movies. The score is just hailing down on the movie like you cannot be wrapped up in the melodrama because it is hitting you with heartstrings as he drives his car around the san francisco bay so Just lots of different versions of pure thrill. Even when people aren't speaking or fucking as the case may be. I think too and i know i always talk about whiplash. And how it was color corrected so disgustingly that. I had to turn it off. You hate damian chazelle but also when we did this segment last time and i watched death becomes her. It was very clear to me. That demise was doing something so unique in that that movie was never gonna get remade and even though cruel intentions like the seventeenth version of dangerous liaisons. I was watching it and feeling that exact same thing which was that. I've never seen anything like this. I don't see how this could get remade. And also that this is a tragedy. And even though it's an erotic thriller this is the one of the saddest stories i have ever seen and the cast and the color correction and the settings reflected that had this dark ominous feeling to it. I so i was just so engaged. I was so engaged and horny. Well the thing about these films is that they were sort of like playing with the fears and that people had over sex the eighties and nineties. Like it's appropriate. That like boom came after the aids epidemic. Too and i feel like every erotic thriller like has an almost gay under towed in it in the sense that like in single white female. Obviously you know there's the lesbianism almost as safir now but also there's a moment where we go to like a sex club you know it's like it looks very like the eagle or like there's chains and whips and stuff and i feel like that element of sex was always present in these films. Body of evidence opens with the nipple clamps and stuff like that. And i feel like maybe they are do for renaissance. Because you know talking about only fans on all this shit like people still have anxieties and fears and like moral panic attacks. And i think that the way to explore that is to dive into them the way these films did and wall so we've already sort of mentioned are blind spots a bit but Lewis you watched basic instinct. Yes which. I was just going to say a when the last time i saw which was years and years ago had to have been on like cable. Tv where things were edited out. Because i was thinking back on what i knew about this movie i realized i hadn't seen whatever the extremely controversial moments where i place them in my head outside of the interrogation scene with sharon stone. But something i had totally forgotten about basic instinct. Which as you probably know stars michael douglas at sharon stone and jeanne tripplehorn as a character whose name is she has dark hair. That's what she was doing in that movie. But something i forgot is that there was lots of controversy from gay activists at the time. Because as you said there's like part of the sinister nefarious queer element to jeanne tripplehorn. There's a queer element to sharon stone. And in fact the way like undulate at the club in front of michael. Douglas building the intrigue of these characters is one just so funny i mean it's so like in a way where it's like. They're appealing to straight men. Who aren't getting any and being like. Look how these ladies are you know sexist crazy. It's actually the part of the movie that is most unintentionally funny to me. In retrospect i love the dad scene in the club. By the way. I love nothing more than sort of like movies era Showing like just like the. It's always the bobby the head back and forth that seed is stuck in my brain forever that scene and michelle pfeiffer dancing scarface right right right and then the other side of it is a lot of these movies feature. This is really temperamental masculinity. So michael. Douglas is flying off the handle constantly. His sex drive is out of control. It's ruining his professionalism. And that's where this genre i think also is. Probably the most problematic is that there is routinely a bit of a rape vibe to how he approaches sex and and his impulsiveness for it. That's the thing that kinda takes me out of the movie occasionally. But of course i guess michael douglas's just the king of this genre obviously in fatal attraction. He gives a very similar performance. But ira my question is so you watch body of evidence with madonna. I've got to tell you that might be her worst performance it truly is abysmal film and by the way her erotica era so we were very over exposed to her. Like how naughty. I can be thing and that breasts were everywhere during this era. Yeah okay preston pointy and ready to go yes nipple been freed okay. Came off came on. This movie is awful. I don't know if her performance worsted the shanghai surprise which is a tepid performance. That's something where she's jason boring whereas this one it's like you have to hold your head at the quote unquote sexiness of it yet. There's nothing in the film that is actually sexy to me. There's a lot of reverse cowgirl going on I deal in most comfortable position. So it's just looked so uncomfortable most of it and it's wild how they keep pushing the sex in the because it's her sex with a man with an older man who dies during sex is filmed and steeds were like people are walking past tv and like the the tape is blank. So you're just saying like madonna fucking this man on the tv screen in the corner of the film constantly. This nothing really sexy about it and lewis when you brought up on the temperamental man. You know like willem. Defoe is constantly angry in this film like when he goes to see her at the police station and tries to work out the deal with the police and they arrest are he like roast things off the table like you played in the men in these movies are constantly throwing things and hitting people and every initiation of the sex scenes are like you said the little rapier..

"It's weird like people talk about grief how it comes in like waves There's a girl. Her name is amanda kloots. Who lost her husband. She's beloved by the entire country. Now she has a talk show and it's because she was sharing with perfect strangers on social media and so the world feels connected to her and she's she's received so much love and support. Because people have said i lost somebody or i know that feeling or you know. I'm a single mom now because my something happened to my partner so you give us the opportunity to feel you give us the opportunity to grow and you give the opportunity to know and love you when you share with us. So it's like a gift you give us when you share. I found out that my college boyfriend committed suicide. I hadn't talked with him for fifteen years but still people they would ask me about it and their questions. I don't know they felt kind of inappropriate. Maybe i guess. I'm asking another side to this and i wonder how erin can set boundaries for herself thinking about the future when people hear about that they could be clumsy with the how like. How did it happen. That's what i mean. Yeah could be kinda gross right. But i guess my question back into all of us is why is there. Shame of this. I had an uncle brilliant brilliant surgeon that committed suicide a few years ago and the family won't talk about it. They won't talk to me about it. And i'm like are you kidding hard. I want so badly to get on the phone. My cousin and talk to her. And i know i could be helpful but she just refuses because they're shame with suicide right. It feels like a different kind of conversation than somebody died of heart attack but when people commit suicide there in pain where it could be emotional or physical pain and that's a bigger conversation for us to have so we have first. We have to just get rid of the shame of what we feel about that right and on when that happened with your ex boyfriend from college you know. It's your own acceptance of it which is hard for people to share. But i'm actually writing about like curiosity and emotional curiosity and how it can be something that is more shared than we do now. Which is the direct link to connection. And if somebody were to ask me about my family member that it happened to. I wouldn't mind. I would be so glad that somebody would ask me about how because then the real story in the real conversation could begin. It begins with us. We make it comfortable for other people. And if it's too personal you can always say it's really difficult for me so i may not be able to share that right now but just know that when people ask even if they do it in the clumsy way they're generally asking because they want to know because they care and they're curious so if we say to them ono. I can't talk to you about this. You're new to me. You don't deserve to hear this information yet. Because you don't know me really well and we're not familiar yet you've now just completely broken a potential court of connection so you gotta do what you feel comfortable with but you could just say. Oh really hard for me to talk about that. When can we put a pin outer pretty traumatic story. And i'll get there but you have to acknowledge the person that asked because they could be coming from a really really good place but most people whether it's divorce or a depth. Whatever a lot of people go. I can't believe this person asked me. It's like really. That's the good news is that they did ask. I guess that's just the way i look at it is. I think that's important. I think erin should be kind of armed with that knowledge as she goes forward in life and you just never know maybe the questioner had gone through in their own life. Yes and do you see that though. Aaron so interesting. How you told us that you're the person in your friends circle that they go to for support and advice. You're somebody who likes to discuss stuff but yet you do it with people you know really well but in your relationships and why you haven't had a deeper relationship yet is because you're keeping everything kind of superficial and lightweight a little bit right if you turned it in your ryan of like well. This is the good stuff. It isn't the pain. It's the real thing that's going on. it's who you. Are you love to do that. Deeper dive it's just you love to do it with people you trust and i stay. You create the trust by doing the deeper dive not the other way around. Yeah yeah i'm with you a real. If you'll meet me like you can ask me anything and i will never ever tell you that anything you ask me as too personal i will give it up immediately whether i know you for five minutes or five years. That's just who i am i to me. There's no choice in the matter. Because i want to live this lifetime without people knowing me. Yeah yeah to my mom being someone who shares so much so openly i just amazing addict the connections that she has people on how you mentioned you have with others and i think it's funny because i was thinking i have had opportunities to share this every time it comes around. I just like void it. I don't know why this is where i can come in with like you can use me erin. Next time you're talking to him. You can say all right. This is gonna sound really crazy. But i talked to this actress and her very qualified co host. And i kind of wanted to tell you something big in my life. That i haven't yet and they recommended i do so so you get to know me if you are at all interested in dating him outside of the pandemic. I think you'll get your answer in telling him how much he shares back with you. Does it totally. Which i think april and i think it will open up the relationship to this different level. Which would be really awesome. But i think sooner rather than later if it's comfortable the timing's right. It's all about the timing. Yeah yeah well. It's interesting that april said before like with the zoom day failure like. Oh that's an in person topic and like that was my thinking in the beginning and then it just kind of kept happening like we just continued to not see each other but i have gotten the sense that like i know. He has so many things to share. But i think also at this like what would the setting like. I don't know. I feel like i just bringing up. Will you said earlier. That he's really nice and that he seems to have it all together so if he's really nice and has it altogether than he's going to be really really good at absorbing this story this information right because he is so calm. You're not going to overwhelm him. Because you get the image of him that he is together and by the way it doesn't even matter because this kind of information doesn't break or make relationships it is what it is and you can always retroactively like on a saying. Go back and be like you know. There's been something i've been wanting to tell you and share that with him and the way you get really good at sharing this tougher stuff is by being the person that always shares the good stuff to meaning you share your joy like you're like oh my god. This thing happened to me. Made me so happy or my mom said something the other day and she is just so amazing that way when you start to share a deeper harder stuff it balances it right and the nobody is overwhelmed by you. Because they're so accustomed to you sharing in a transparent way of. I share positive. I shared joy and i share grief and i share frustration. I share all of it because it's all true. It's the people that either. Don't share it all or they go fully on in with the gas pedal on. Here's my grief and here's all the stuff that's going on in. That can be really overwhelming to a new person but if we've been kind of letting it all out with all of us. Nobody defines it of like. This is what she sharing that his dark and scary. She's a person at shares. You're balancing out how people receive you and it's never too late like i was saying it's like might as well do it now because it's not going to change anything. Yeah so when you hear someone story of loss not just the grief it's the grief as the starter story. But then there's elvis where we know you and then we get to know your mom and mike. Oh why did she choose him. And what does she like. And you think it's going to start and stop at the grief story.

"I just adore you. I have been a fan of yours since friday night lights. I just love everything you do. I've been watching lovecraft year. So fucking great. Wow thank you for one. I'm such a fan of yours. Eileen you are such a force and that means so much coming from us. I appreciate all the love really okay. I'm going to ask you some questions. And we will see where they take us. Okay we'll start out easy. Do you eat boxed commercial cereal yes but flavor raisin bran i love raise andbranch. Oh it's everything i love. Raisins used to hate raisins. When i was little i would pick out the raisins from the raisin bran. And now i love raisins and i love raisin bran and i leave the raisins where they belong. If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be. O- on an island with lots of sun and beach weather. That's all i care about. You could throw me anywhere in the ocean. Like water is very common for me. I know that you were on full house when you were five so you must have been in los angeles at that time but were you born in los angeles. No i was born in new york queens elmhurst and then your family relocated to los angeles we gypsies. You know we moved all over one minute. We were living in. La one minute we were living in. New york. Lived in the bay. So yeah they relocated for a time to la and then went back to new york. We kept driving back and forth literally. We would get in the car and just drive to new york or drives. La like the whole family would do road trips all the time. Do you like doing road trips now. I love it. Yeah i do i do. It's something very comforting about driving and listening to music and stopping at random places to find garlic stuffed olives or long liquorice assure you know like there's so many great parts of america that we driven through and you find like little trinkets or you just see parts of live way. Different cultures live i me. I think it's very fascinating. I love it. What did your very unique childhood experience working so young been in the industry having a family in the industry give you and did you ever envy like normality. That's a good question. What is normal you know. My normal was my normal is grow up thinking. I was abnormal. I didn't grow up thinking. Oh i am missing allen so much it was all i knew you know. I started when i was ten months. Oh ana you know so. It's live surely. All i knew craft service right. You know the set life learning my lines picking up new corks in order to become a character so no. I think when i became a teenager a definitely considered quitting because the business side of this industry is rough. It's not four kids right and while you're going through that adolescent period in which you're struggling with all these insecurities and doubts about life. You know you question what your reality isn't all that natural life stuff happens. It's tough to do that in the industry and so i did kind of step back from it a little bit. I also struggled with acne. So you know. I became very shy in lake reclusive in a way now. I can't say that. I necessarily envied other kids. Childhood also wasn't a child star. So i don't know if i would have been constantly working all the time burning out. You know unable to fill my wella again. Maybe i would have had that experience. But no i didn't grow up in being kids also really loved it. The craft the art of it. I really enjoyed it the way kids enjoy literally leak and you know i have to say i was lucky enough that i didn't have one of those stage parents. My mom wasn't that we grew up. Poor you know she could have easily had me take more jobs or say yes to the things. She was saying no to in order for us to be rich. Not poor and i think that helps protect my love for it. Yeah my personal experience. I was self conscious teenager. I was a very late bloomer. And i found like even going locally for auditions with girls. That seemed more beautiful or i don't know more confident. I viewed that process is pretty rough and then in los angeles in my twenties with all my new friends essentially being my competition easier like alternately envying your friends know you wanna be happy for them but the comparison level is tough for a young person to absorb that. I think in a healthy way. I think you speak is very real. You know you're kind of in the business of rejection. Like i just remember a period of time where it felt like okay. I'm going on. How many auditions just to get a yes. You get so many no's before you get a yes but also. I think it's interesting for me. I can't say that it was like my friends or peers. Because honestly on like it would have been the roles. You'll got you know. Be like i just wanted to get in the audition like i wasn't even actually getting in the rue to be real frank right so i think more so what i dealt with when it comes to like appearance and all that kind of stuff is trying to not fall into what they want you to be in order to get the opportunities honestly for most of my early twenties. It was while they're not willing ethnic whenever role or they're not opening up that role you know and so for me. It made me have to really work against all that shit that you'd have to work against just being a black woman in general right but it's just right there in your face. Aki and even get in the room. Because of how you feel i look casting director so it has to my has nothing to do with anything inch just literally light. They don't want a black woman. Being opposite this white dude in a love story. And so i think for me i just had to have like a real sense of self of like your value is not diminished. Just because someone's inability to see your work but also i gotta be honest. Most of my friends in the business unfortunately or maybe fortunately. I don't know my friends were way older than me. So maybe that's why did struggle with that as much you know like most of my friends growing up where like my mentors like an hour. Free woodard or sam jackson white people whom i had worked with when i was a kid or played their child or something like that. They just kind of took me under their wing. Mom kind of kept me away from a lot of my quote unquote peers. Because the party.

"Don't seek ease. Progress. Need e Okay. Let's go back to the Goddamn beginning. Right there. Is No. I mean look birds of prey was definitely different because look I had to try and from five months to. dreux martial artists, you know So it's it's it definitely required different muscles than lovecraft country. And like the whole comic book world is its own beast and and I tried to approach that with the same amount of reference that I would approach the techs lovecraft you know but. The approach is. Each project is GonNa require different things you know I shot the pilot for the craft then went and trained for birds of Prey Shot Virgil, back in shot you know the remaining season of low crowd is finding because Michel afterwards was like so these arms they gotta go. Damn he's black canary arms you got like. Say Now your character is really important her I. There's a gazillion things that you've done as a youngster. and which I remember your face I'm. Sure, you've demartin before you've done like remembered certain things. was there ever talk about developing? "As we started doing the pilot. We just kept butting heads and became a running joke on said that Oh journeys in the. Good luck starting. On time journey going to be arguing for twenty minutes prior to the. Thanksgiving. Well when I'm playing, are you allowed to argue with your director? Well, here's the thing she was. It was the first time I was like the the lead of show and it was the first time. She was show runner of a show. So we there was a lot of pressure on. US right and and. I. Wanted you know I come with my research in my opinions about a Cag- like you hard to do a job right. So let me do my fucking job and then here she comes being like, yes but this is what my vision is. Blah Blah Blah that's normal for for people, but we just had to figure out how to collaborate. We had to figure out each other's love languages because there was a lot of just debating and arguing not seeing eye to eye with things, and then you know once we got over that it was really the whipping scene in the pilot of underground in which we argued to. I mean overtalked it in and I kept saying look it's not on the page is not hear what you want me to do. I don't know how to make that. Sit In my body in a truth. So and everything I would try. We rehearsed it and I would try kings in my body and she would just be like, no that ain't no that ain't it am. I cool. Is this handful Let me try. No and it's finding on the day of shooting. I told our director Anthony Everywhere said. We don't want to discuss it. Don't talk to me about this scene. I'M GONNA go out there and do it I. Don't know how to do it but I'm GonNa do it. I said the only thing is please don't let me down on the whip because at this point I've got nothing else to hold on to sit to get an actual response out of me you know. And then I looked up and we're sitting on this plantation. It was a real plantation in Louisiana and I saw this oak tree industry had been there for over two hundred. Probably two to three hundred years. And I thought of Billie Holiday's strange fruit and I thought of all the strange fruit that had probably hung from that tree. And I pray to the ancestors and. went out did see. Anthony didn't cut. He just kept doing take after take angle after angle without cutting. and. Afterwards, I couldn't stop crying crying for Lake a good ten minutes, initia- and Aldous, in manages held me. And it was an interesting breakthrough formation I of like. Okay we just have to trust the process. We just have to trust the material and we have to trust each other because when it comes time. The work will be there. When when high intensity seems? To be shot be. Murder or the awkwardness of a love scene or screaming or shouting rage. Your icon of baseball bet seen. How much? preparation. Or time do you need to go to a convincing dark place or is it like you show up instead of five in the morning and goat? L. No I'm not that person back. I would never. I. I'd had nothing to pull from my well would be MD of. And just don't work out so I spent a Lotta time doing research. Okay. Robin Williams once shared a story about when shooting. Would Deniro Robin Williams Deniro. awakenings. There's a scene where. Robin Williams and Deniro had to like. Come outside of the hospital and they were shooting on location in the Bronx. And You know since the beginning of the film. Deniro was method acting mode and stayed that character the entire duration of the film. Even, when he went home. And because they were on location in the Bronx. And there were like people on stamp by watching this one spectator. I think like distracted Deniro so much that they had to shut production down. By like an old drunk black guy. He was trying to get his attention all day. Bobby. Bobby D and then he's like a Bobby D. You still love second black pussy. And like. Robin Williams. Like they tried ignored it and then Robin Williams looked at Deniro and then they started dying by they was laughing on the floor cracking up. And Ben Deniro couldn't get back into character they had to shut down. and. Like let him reset and come back the next day to do that. That scene. So wonder like in terms of of channeling that like how hard is it to how long do you need to to get into that? That's the movie with budget. Of Character. That's like. Never experienced that. You know it's it's interesting that you talk about that because half the battle is fighting off a distraction. You know set is such a such circuits. And in. All the preparation you do whether you get months or weeks or however amount of time you get leading up to you know go time. When you get onset, it's a whole different beaks NASA, different muscle that you have to be able to express. "Jussie Smollett was the victim of a vicious racist and homophobic attacks his attackers hurled racial and homophobic slurs for racism she would steroids they are looking for two suspects who were apparently wearing make America great again hat the offenders uttered this is not a country this is stomach turning mind boggling information hello this is a horrible story yeah and unacceptable this is America and twenty ninety eight I love that this is American twenty nineteen one of the more frustrating things in life and I think I should say maybe not life but in the media is the the initial story the accused of the the main story it's the most coverage the just the small let the first when he comes out with the news with that this with that huge huge story when it comes out that he was lying no grand to just a smaller one there was a lot of coverage on that but the apology the is never as big we talked about the story about the candidate who is running in the seventy six the simply district was accused of sexually harassing that woman and he came out to not be true at all but the night the allegations came out the ten days prior and then was ten days subsequently after the cops said no no nothing happened but the night that the accusations came out it was front page story leading news Republican use simply candidate you know growing allegedly gropes agree woman or whatever you she alleged and then ten days later it's only about the weather wasn't true and it's like page six of the nuns paper wait you should go up to tell every single person you told that I got your letter we did that to tell every single person that wasn't true that Sir we got that they had like totally wrong get all the facts wrong and that is really what should we do what do you mean well into the reduction on Z. nineties Tuesday there from bottom right corner point five immediately yes Sir or do you know if you get to it sometime this week you don't have to do it you know whatever it's like why that is a very frustrating thing into the jussie Smollett of in that story obviously is just absurd in its own right but you know the same thing now it's just kind of pushed pushed aside into okay whenever whatever I was sure the code story coming up next but we shared earlier this week in fact about the violence going on in Chicago hello even though we are not hearing as much about it doesn't mean that it's not happening they're still shootings and Eric you actually out of forty someone called in and and called me out rightfully so I didn't share the exact same story so last week I sure earlier this week I should say I should the story about how there was just this horrific thing there was a twelve people got shot at a party in Chicago twelve people on that's an absurd amount that's it the a and barely any nukes coverage on it and I got shot and a celebration of life for someone who also had got shot you know what I'm saying so the guys party they were honoring Amer celebrating his life he had gotten shot the reason he had gotten shot was he was carjacking someone else thank the guy was carjacked again I'm not laughing is it doesn't mean it is you have to get killed by the the guy was carjacking he got shot and killed at the party for the guy that got shot and killed twelve people got shot I mean this is the kind of lunacy that's going on in Chicago we talked about it into gangs retaliating it's their game cheats their gang should start getting into retaliating it's a never ending cycle never ending cycle the thing is Chicago isn't the only city Baltimore could wrap up twenty nineteen with the highest per capita homicide rate on record as killing of adults and minors alike for drugs retribution money or no clear reason continue add up and city officials appear unable to stop the violence police recorded three hundred and thirty eight homicides as of Tuesday following the release a week of relentless gunfire that saw eight people shot the three of them fatally in one day nine others one of them fatally yeah another day to think about that you got nine people shot one day you've got eight people start on another day so twenty eighteen it was three hundred nine people were killed for shy of the three hundred forty two killings tallied in two thousand seventeen of two thousand fifteen this is sad this is a city that doesn't have leadership it's endlessly under eight they'll had no leadership in Baltimore for a long time failed politicians upon failed politicians mayors come in and say they're going to clean it up and more people get shot and more people get killed it's the same failed policies no one even says Hey maybe we should try something differently it's just to come in all we're going to clean it up this time and then it's the same thing and it's the same thing there are over six hundred thousand residents in Baltimore to the homicide rate is about to reach fifty seven per one hundred thousand residents have been killed by gunfire which includes the rate of nineteen ninety three with the city had a record of three hundred fifty three killings but was awesome also much more populous New York City has eight million residents and is at three hundred and six homicides New York City which isn't likely the safety capital of the world so I you know I mean it's not it's not the worst place the world leader but it's not like New York City I don't think safety New York City three hundred and six homicides your Baltimore's had three hundred and thirty eight and I'm sure accounting for six days left in the in the year or whatever I'm sure it'll continue to go up and that's that's horrific this horrific and it's the same failed leadership is the same thing in Chicago it's the same thing in Baltimore and it's not getting better any time soon usually it's in the summer when it's warm and people around still shootings people getting killed it's a and nobody nobody even brings it up nobody says Hey what about the three hundred people that have been shot and killed this year no will more will move on one eight hundred seven sixty five three sixty two okay we'll come back we'll talk about what's going on on this Florida professor down these these college professors all tell you I also play some more sound I got.

"On February twentieth two thousand Nineteen Nineteen. The unthinkable hits the Newswire Jussie smollet is charged by the Chicago. PD with filing a false police report. A felony that carries a penalty of up to three years in prison and the next day. The police unfold a story in front of the press that is truly shocking according to the Associated Press investigators reviewed extensive phone records between small and the brothers including calls from when the brothers others were in Nigeria after the allegedly staged attack they also cited text messages between small at and able awesome Daro revealing revealing they exercised and socialized together. A four page court document laid out the allegations that small at hired the brothers to buy masks and rope transactions recorded on surveillance video small at then told able to not hurt him too badly and give them a chance to appear here to fight back then plotted out there attack including a date and time and paid them three thousand five hundred dollars to do so phone records show that small at able spoke briefly by phone a little more than an hour before the attack small at told able during the call. Call that the attack should be carried out at two. AM At an already scouted location near the actors home minutes later Olah hailed. The Uber and the brothers started making their way to the crime scene less than eighteen hours after the incident. Small and able traded phone calls. The brothers then boarded a flight for their overseas trip the next day small at made a nearly nine minute call to able in Turkey Chicago. PD Superintendent. Eddie Johnson came out and said come to you not only as the superintendent of the Chicago the Police Department but also has a black man who spent his entire life living in the city of Chicago. I know the racial divide that exists. Here sure I know how hard it's been for our city and our nation to come together and I also know the disparities and I know the history this announcement today recognizes that empire actor to Jussie smollet took advantage of the pain and anger of racism to promote his career. I'm left hanging my head and asking why. Why would anyone especially an African American man use the symbolism of a noose to make false accusations because someone look at the hatred and suffering associated with that symbol and see an opportunity to manipulate the symbol to further his own public profile Alcan? How can an individual who's been embraced by the city of Chicago turnaround? Slap everyone in this city in the face by making these false claims TMZ bogus. Police reports calls real harm. They do harm to every legitimate victim. WHO's a need of support port by police and investigators as well as the citizens of the city he added the stunt was orchestrated by S- millette? Because he was dissatisfied. There's five of their salary. So he concocted a story about being attacked now. City has problems. We know that we have problems that have affected affective people from all walks of life and we know that but to put the national spotlight on Chicago for something that is both egregious and untrue. Untrue is simply shameful. As for why. The Austin Darrow's confessed their former lawyer said at the time there was never a change of heart. There was the point where this story needed to be told and they manned up and they said we're going to correct this plea deal immunity all of that. They don't care about that. The fallout of this bombshell was seismic empire who cast and crew had so vehemently spoken out against small. Let's attack dropped dropped. His character from the show in a joint statement released a day after his arrest. They said that while we care about him deeply they were making the move move in order to avoid further disruption onset actor Patton. Oswald tweeted way to go. Jesse you just handed this racist Shit. As in president trump describing him again out of race baiting free card that he's going to wave around like a soiled diaper until he's reelected did Andy Cohen added. My head is exploding. This morning. I have to get off twitter. This story is pathetic. All of it the list goes was on in a matter of weeks. The media had done a complete one eighty from disgust. That someone could commit such a hateful act in this century to even greater are discussed that someone could make it up. And that's not all. According to an indictment return sheet a cook county grand jury increased creased charges against small at instead of one count of filing of fake police report they filed for sixteen counts each of the charges carrying being a possible sentence of up to three years in prison the grand jury filed the sixteen counts with what one official would later say. Just a sliver of the evidence Chelsea small at was in very big trouble until he wasn't nineteen days after charging small at with sixteen counts. It's of filing a false police report. The Cook County State Attorney's office all of a sudden drops the criminal charges explaining in a brief statement in return for forfeiting his bond to the city of Chicago and doing his community service. We agreed to dismiss the charges against him. He did community community service for operation. Push however in a statement released by operation push they said there is no court ordered community service so essentially. It seems like the State Attorney's office was looking for reasons to let jussie off on top of that. The State Attorney's office also said they believed Jesse did what he was in fact charged with asked again whether the State Attorney's office believes smaller fabricated. The incident they he said yes. This was not an exoneration to say that he was exonerated by US or anyone is not true. Our goal and our number one priority is combating adding violent crime and the drivers of violence and re looked to our resources to do that. And I don't think that Mr Small at is a driver of violence or violent island individual. The reactions to this development were very different small at spoke outside the courthouse celebrating what he viewed as vindication. First of all I want to thank my family. My friends the incredible people if Chicago and all over the country in the world who have prayed for me who have supported joining me who've shown me so much love. No one will ever know how much that has meant to me and I will forever be grateful. I want you to know that not for moment. WAS IT in vain. I've been truthful and consistent on every single level since day one. I would not be my mother son if I was capable of one. Drop of an accused of this has been an incredibly difficult time. Honestly one of the worst of my entire life. But I'm a man of faith and I'm a man that has knowledge of my history and I would not bring my family our lives or the movement through a fire like this just wouldn't so I wanNA think my legal counsel council from the bottom of my heart and I would also like to thank the State of Illinois for attempting to do what's right now. I'd like like nothing more than to just get back to work and move on with my life but make no mistakes. I will always continue to fight for the justice equality and betterment of marginalized people everywhere. So again thank you for all the support. Thank you for faith and thank you to God. Bless you all thank you very much. However the local police saying a very different prince song and stood their ground holding to the facts of their investigation in a statement? Chicago Police Superintendent Johnson said through. I I think justice was served. No do I think justice is. I think the city is still holding apology. and Let. Let me digress. For a moment when I came on this job I've been a cotton now for about thirty. One years came on this job. I came on with my on my integrity and my reputation if someone one accused me of doing anything that was circumvent that I would want my day in court period to clear my name John. I've heard that they wanted their day in court with TV cameras so America could know the truth though they chose to hide behind secrecy. Broker a deal to circumvent the judicial system even well known mayor. rahm Emanuel echoed the superintendent sentiments. He talked about the larger repercussions gay men and women who come forward and say they were victims of hate crime who now doubted people of faith Muslim or any other religious faith will be a victim of hate crime people that also of all all walks of life and backgrounds race ethnicity sexual orientation now. This cast a shadow of whether they're telling the truth and he did this all in the name of self promotion and he used the laws of the hate crime legislation that all of collectively over here to put on the books to stand up to be the values that embody what we believe. So that's it. That's the end of this wild story right wrong because the Chicago. PD stand by the hard work of the men and women.
