Chris Rock is not the only one. You've seen this from Chappelle. Pretty much every major comedian is now on board with this because guess what? If you're a major comedian, this means that you have made a success of yourself in American life. It means that you worked really hard to get there. You worked a lot of clubs. There were a lot of circuits. You failed a lot. And so this notion that you look around you and you see a country filled with failures because there are so many people are just victims of the society. You don't buy into it. If you're truly successful in American society, very difficult to see that everyone else in American society's victim, particularly if you're somebody like Chris Rock, by the way, they also had some notes about abortion that were kind of shocking. He actually picked up an old Louis C.K. routine. And he also said, he was like, I'm very pro choice. I love abortion. I probably paid for more abortions than anybody in this room, but you are killing babies. And everybody in the room's like, wait, what now? And again, he doubled and tripled down on it. So this Netflix special is important because this is going to be the most watched thing in America for the next couple of weeks minimum. It's funny, it's really better. It's a very, very angry special. And one of the reasons that it's angry is because one of the things he's angry at is mentality that suggests, again, that victimhood reigns supreme. And that wokeness is a way to success. That the way that you gain success is by he went off on woke corporations. You want to find Lululemon at a certain point during the special. He starts yelling at Lululemon. He's like, you guys are telling me about how much share do you give? You know what would be charity if you didn't sell yoga pants for a 120 bucks. That would be charity. He is expressing what a lot of people feel. A lot of people of various ethnicities and various races and various political points of view. There is going to be an anti left revolution in this country and you're just beginning to see the first glimmers of it, which is very scary for people inside the Democratic Party. Again, it's not just coming from Chris Rock. It's my other cultural figures who are on the left and who are feeling similar things in just one second first. The government keeps raising the interest rates right now because they have no choice. I mean, the inflation is out of control. We are headed for economic stagnation. We all know this. And the truth is that economic stagnation is somewhat baked into the cake. If you look over the course of the next ten years, even before this inflationary cycle, the Biden administration was suggesting that over the course of the next ten years, the American economy was going to grow well under 2% every single year. Which would not even match normal pace of inflation. It's just one reason why you should diversify at least a little bit into precious metals. Hedge against

The first distinction of this year's tenure. I'd film festival is that it took place last year It went dark during the pandemic. This year, the festival managed to take place actually, rather than virtually, and it did so dramatically as always, thanks to its spectacular place high up in the Rocky Mountains. Attendance was off peak. Pardon the pun. But the slate of new films renewed Good faith and movies. As larger than life images on vastly larger than living room screens At a time when the future of the theatrical mediums clouded at best. Two of my favorite films could hardly have differed, mourn substance, but they pulled off the same magic trick of wrapping potent themes and crowd pleasing packages. Belfast, written and directed by Kenneth Brana has set in 1969 so fictionalized recollection of his childhood at a moment of peril and promise for his family caught up in Northern Ireland sectarian violence they're confronted by an agonizing choice between staying in the city they love or making a new life in England. Will Smith Stars and King Richard. He's Richard Williams of Father and the tumultuous throws of raising five Children, two of them destined to be among the greatest tennis players of all time. So wonderful performance in a film that disarms whatever skepticism you may have had about Williams as the obsessive coach and ceaseless promoter of Venus and Serena Williams. Mainly King Richard is about tennis. Most importantly, though, it's about educating Children, giving them grounding and focus inspiring them. And since these are black Children growing up in Compton, keeping them safe from physical and emotional harm until they can take flight on their own. The festival's wittiest film was Marcel the Shell with shoes on a 90 minute version of the Stop Action YouTube collaborations between the director Dean Fleischer camp and the actress Jenny Slate. I can't wait to see him and his movie again. Finally, one documentary was in the class by itself. It's called Hallelujah. Leonard Cone Journey a song and it's a densely detailed biography of the Canadian poet, singer and songwriter. But this majestic, almost symphonic production is also a chronicle of the singular song, Cohn wrote, revised and expanded over the course of decades. As well as in the count of how hallelujah has become a receptacle into which new generations of singers pour their musical souls. Everyone has been wanting to make the documentary on the malice at the palace. And it was thought stu gods that that was never going to get made because the nba would never allow the footage to be used. The nba would never sign off on anybody being able to bring that night back because it was such a blight for the nba. So i'd really love to know the backstory. I'd love to talk to the directors. I'd like to get to the bottom of how it is. Everybody's been trying to do that. Documentary for a now because the personalities are so interesting but it was thought that that footage was going to be impossible to get am shocked by it. Do we know if they have the footage they have to have the footage for the film wondering like what's changed their. Because i'm with you. I never thought documentary would be made. I don't know if it's david stern passing away. I saw in the trailer. The trailer had the footage. And i don't know if that's a social media thing i'd like to know more. I'm speaking ignorantly now when i tell you. I simply don't know how they got the footage and i was of the opinion because i've heard this talked about for so long to get everybody's been wanting to make that documentary. It's an easy documentary to make. We remember that time because we we lived through what it is the details were and nostalgia. Sports documentaries are where it's at right now and you're not gonna get a more interesting subject matter then. Millionaire black dudes with corn rows and braid punching the white customers in a way that when it happened. I remember and we've talked about this before. Stu got stephen a smith the late john saunders. A bunch of people on espn started blaming the fans. The way that we blame the fans now when kyrie irving gets bottle thrown at him or russell westbrook gets popcorn thrown at him and then the conversation changed ten to fifteen hours later. I wonder what's skipper and charge. Then no that would have been skipper right. That was before skipper. We wouldn't. I'd i'd love to know why and how that conversation change. But it was clear that someone on on the very top of disney or somewhere change the conversation because that weekend on the sports reporters it went from blaming the fan to blaming the players and the entire tone of the conversation ended up changing over twelve hours from immediate reaction to something decidedly different over the course of the weekend and i would just love all of that explored. We all have reasons that we remember that incident For me it was jamaal. Tinsley coming back onto the dustpan i mean and i need answers. I need the backstory on that trump densely i do. They've got jermaine o'neal they've got metta world peace. Then ron our tests. They're talking to some of the people. And i look forward to watching both of those movies because i i don't think will. Smith's career has been the same since he did ali. The degree of difficulty on will smith's career has been extraordinary. He went from being successful in music. Being successful in television to a performance in ali that i thought was worthy of an oscar and then over the last few years has not been anything special but he has chosen a project. I could see how it is that that project would appeal to will smith and i'm looking forward to that but as we talk about the mixture of race and sports i want to talk to you guys a little bit a little more about what we saw with simone biles because this broke during our show the other day and then what happened after. Simone biles and the specifics. To god's of something i'd never heard of before the twisties have you heard of the twisties stott not until recently until it actually happens. Whatever happened happened to simone biles and then everyone started using the term twisties and and the mental aspect and her not knowing what she was doing when she was actually out doing the thing that she does best in the air. It's the hips for gymnasts. And gymnasts know the terminology and one of the many things at play here because we can do all sorts of think pieces about all of this stugatz. This is a woman under a great deal of duress for a lot of reasons that have nothing to do even with the olympics the world stage and things. We've seen her conquer before a brother acquitted of murder stugatz. You don't know the mental strain of that. A nassar sexual abuse survivor. You don't know the damage of that. A black person in america competing at this time in an empty arena for that flag..

"You're like what is going on. And then the conspiracy theory helps you to simplify that. And it's like okay. I get it. Yeah that's part of the cabal. That i already knew was sketchy so then it adds qualities and it adds it adds benefits in addition but that might have not been the first draw why you were drawn to it in the first place and then on the other hand some people might not care so much about the content of a conspiracy theory but like the the qualities of it so like qualities what i mean by that is that conspiracy theories are often counter. A normative so you kind of stick out you. Sometimes i don't know where they can use that word but i sometimes piss someone off and that okay fan thanksgiving dinner and then you know all these contrary teenagers who just say crazy stuff to piss their parents off right. And it's like a similar thing like a conspiracy theories contrary and you stick out and people even talk about you because you're crazy person but like at the end of the day it makes you feel special and people one way or the other care about you and us seen so it's not so much aboud the conspiracy theory content. It could be any sort of either. It could be the conspiracy theory that you believe in lizard. People are the flat earth or whatever. It doesn't matter what matters is that you stick out and that it helps you to satisfy this needle feeling special. And that i. I would argue these very different pathways would makes eastern iskoe's models so fantastic to me is that she is part of a group of scientists who prefer the term conspiracy narratives instead of conspiracy theories which is why she and her colleagues us so many movie metaphors in their paper in germany there researchers that i really admire. We're studying conspiracy theories to and they refer to it as conspiracy narratives which i like. Yeah and that. I think is what we're studying. That's what we are referring to when we talk about people burning down five towers because they think this is the actual reason for the covert nineteen symptoms. So there's like and that kind of captures what it is right. It's like a narrative it's not based on any profound evidence it is cherry picked. It's oftentimes not falsifiable. It's just like any sort of counter evidence is integrated. It's very unlikely to chew. And this is what we're talking about when we talk about conspiracy theories. Yeah so. I think it's similar to picking a movie in terms of like which conspiracy theories are you drawn to like pick in quotation marks. When we think about a movie kid either think about okay. I wanna have a horror movie tonight. I wanna have a really shocker. I feel that way and then it's like what you care about in the movie. When you scroll netflix. It's a shocker. mystery and the only time they get to see you is the fourth of July on the big screen right right so what happened was as social media came there was a there was a shift and I was trying to hold on for for a little while and I realized that the new mentality is Nobody's coming to the movie theater if they don't see you every day right people want to feel like they're friends they wanNA know so it's a completely different shift another thing happened for me with social media I was I was I had so many creative ideas. that were were dying on the vine inside of me God right so when you put out a movie Gemini Man might be two and a half years from the time we started until it comes oh so that's one piece of content in two and a half years but what social media is allowing me to do is all of those ideas and all of those concepts get to come out with your I was experiencing creative constipation right so the Internet has like laxative right stuff Eh let me let me ask you this before you go
