"Reactions a lot of people interacting with with ron after After i posted the the listening for the show and it it's one of those you know it's one of those sad but bittersweet type things where he's had a wonderful career and gave a lot of people a of a lot of thrills and something to look forward to but he's got this fire crow. I don't see why fire crow isn't very viable in this park's dash Six to one and Joel rosario is going down to ride. Okay i'm i'm game You you look at me. Favorites critical way which certainly deserving pokka lopez comes over from ocean port and Eight to five favorite in their franken tally. In fact the two of them to them. You've gotta think will be sort of sparring. Right franken tally for cow lynch. And frankie pennington so. I wanted to get chris in here because we owed them. We owed him a visit. And i'm just sending casey the number and in fact i it it It occurs to me that I've got change. Chris griffin and my phone he's got s. h. Rpi under his name. That that monica goes over now to Right yeah i know. We talked a little bit. I went over to nick stable before we went on the air sunday and we was You're talking about the The job and he's excited. I don't blame him. It's pretty neat park stash Today four thirty nine and chris griffin joins us chris. Good morning good morning. What's going on. Rather i wanted to make sure that After last week's aborted attempt to talk to you the the action last week which was was quite good and Fulsome we had brad cox yesterday talking about. Obviously the travers win but It wasn't gonna miss a chance to dimension it as well Folsom smarty jones win. And he'll join. It seems the gas for the pennsylvania derby which is coming up Very good and very important In fact the the the whole two days last week. The pennsylvania day at the races It's a very nice performances. And then on tuesday come back with the The sprint but she read With baron and frankie and about lovely ride bret calhoun somebody good performances last week and The rescheduled great. That ends up here on tuesday which should be locked. But yeah lovely. Ride a horse. That i actually called it at the sam. Houston that double you know. I've called the horse the winner in houston texas and now here at part so Probably see that one coming back with a kazillion saturday. September twenty fifth early saturday afternoon programme and leader of the band. If you go back and watch that race she was. She was closing like a freight trains through the lane. And i think that's going to set her up really nicely. Because john service that even said that he felt like the rates came up pretty quick so i i think he'll have a little bit of time to center up for that grade one race Fulsome in line for for a bona possibly to put together the smarty jones and the Pennsylvania derby so looking forward to that a lot of good connections say that they're pointing to pennsylvania and it's nice to hear and nice to see and i'm looking forward to it and Yeah we missed out on your last week. And and like i said the only problem i had trae styles. Nc hall of famer. Text me right away. He's like. Oh i had to pinch it for you. I had to jump in there and take over the interview. And now i gotta hear about that for months and months and it was funny because you know the the masking scenario is very difficult and it took a while at nhcd to recognize some people. Some people are easy to recognize from from you know. Let's say the you know the bridge of the nose Up to up to the head you know whether whether it's distinctive hairstyles or or no hair. And i didn't recognize trae was kind of lurking in the room and and then i saw that tweedy went out. He said. I just saw steve vic doing the shelves from an empty ballroom and then i texted him right away. Said we'll come back here. And i didn't know as you i. I didn't recognize media. You could just walk over there and say hey see what's going on about it and then you got to respond to the tweet to have him. Come back exactly. Hey well. they're some of that. There's been a few of that Particularly at because the ball you're in this gigantic it is a big big room and as they say the internet's big room So you could go literally the three days and not see people i it just it people have they start to. They start to go down certain paths and and they'll whether they walked the perimeter of the room to get to their table or then. There's people that are you know that that we've their way through the tables. Those people you see. And we what's changed is they. They've got they've got the terminals for the players on on the left and the right as opposed to the front and the back so it used to be that there was a front backflow. And now there's there's sort of this east west flow and so you don't necessarily see people coming back and forth I guess maybe changed my position in january. Anyway there were people i didn't. I was shocked. I realized that the end of the. I realized that the end of the day sunday at that i didn't see our saab fleetingly and come over and set and then i you know if if you don't they don't see me and i don't see them. You know i. It goes by the wayside like really good energy. And i saw some of your updates from there and it's it's fun to watch. There's a lot of money on the line and a lot of people that work hard all year and now they catch it again in the next five months or something like that comes right back. So it's It's exciting time for the the players out there and the people that enjoy tournaments and enjoy your coverage is always but yet now now i gotta hear from trae solid with nonstop about his His performance hopefully did a nice job. I think i caught some of the interview. He did very good. he's he's the one of the one of the really good opinion-makers and as you and i discussed the at the time During you know during the s. h. seasons last two three Adding him to the mix and now it'll be him and nick tammaro already. They've been they've been exchanging opinions As nick caught the the quarterhorse season and when the thoroughbreds roll around. That'll be really interesting because they've got they kind of come at racist different ways and it should be invaluable to players I would think that that's h. R. p. continues to to do things right and on this topic by the way your presence in not the not the keith jones i mean the keith's principal job was calling races but one of the things that has really markedly changed is the interplay that you're providing Publicly as as a you know as a conduit for people to the park signal and That's been stepped up considerably. And i. And i i think from conversations we had that was sort of part of the part of the hiring process and right and the decision making Bringing you in vermont. My directv off here and.

All of these could be real. I don't think there's one you're going to throw me where I'm like. That's definitely fake. I'll say real, but I It's a coin flip. It is fake it with Smarty Jones. Is that? It has to be real. Yeah, I'm saying real is well, I'm gonna be very disappointed. It's fake because I'm gonna actually I won't be. I'm gonna go out. Pull some money together by a horse and name it are It is a real name, and I wish I was around. Then I could put money on that horse, too, because I believe in it. I think it's real. Mark Casse Interview - January 18, 2020

"When you talk about the three year olds this weekend all eyes on the grade three Lecomte stakes at the fairgrounds and mark? CASSIE is going to be a very very busy man. He has horses entered there there. He has horses entered at Gulfstream Park. And as you might expect he's prominent in so many major stakes races mark with me now here on the horse racing radio network mark appreciate the visit in the time my friend thank you. Thanks for having me now. It just got to win a few. Yeah now you just got to get things rolling. I mean you're pretty. Hey good at that though sometimes so far this year but it's really it's early what's okay so for a trainer when you go through a little stretch like this. You said it's slow. You know things will pick up eventually. But what do you. How do you keep the faith? How do you keep the same approach? Approach everything well. You just know that it's worked and so You know you just you just keep doing the same thing you've always it's done So much of it is is just sometimes you go through cycles and things work right sometimes. I can look at it condition. Asian book a lot of times. And tell you whether we're going to how we're going to do. Sometimes you know you have races that fit your horses better than others and But by the you know you just continue David Care on. I've talked about this many times and that is you just keep doing doing What you've been doing we We won five breeders cups and two classics. And so I think we we I think we we. We know what we're doing so we just keep doing the same thing. Yeah more than twenty eight hundred victories in North America for trainer Mark. CASSIE so. Yeah I think you know what you're doing it hard mark not to start like tweaking. Funny Mike though I will tell you. This is many racist as we went all those. When you start? Start when you do go through a little spell where you're not winning as much as you'd like you know you're like he's still like oh I want to win. It never changes. It doesn't matter whether for me whether it's a five thousand dollar claiming race or five hundred thousand dollars claiming race and I I don't like losing nobody does You know so There you go. Well hopefully things start picking up with the Lecomte Lecomte stakes later today and all the stakes races at Gulfstream tubes. You're well represented there but let's let's focus on the three year olds in the lacob and this is a race that you want for the first time. Last last year with war of will we know it worked out okay for him he went out and won the preakness later in the season. And some people will say maybe he should have won the Kentucky Derby. But that's neither here nor there here at this point So tell me about the two horses you have this year. You have Lynn's map and then you have enforceable and I would say Lens Map. Probably the more highly regarded at least in terms of the the morning line. Well well we just scratched him. Oh okay well there you go. And and that was kind of the plan when he drew the fourteen hall. It's nearly nearly impossible to win anywhere from the fourteen whole But New Orleans is pretty tough to win from the fourteen hole So when that happened when he drew outside their yesterday we Entered him in the Smarty Jones. And he's going to run next Friday at Oakland in the Smarty Jones. That works out okay. It doesn't cost you a whole lot of time right. No no not at all and The the Smarty Jones I think he's number eight of nine much much more favorable Post and Yeah he's a very nice horse he's he's done done well so far We're excited to have him and you know now he. He's he's taken one step. He took another step and now the big except the big step that says. Can you run with the better. Three year olds in North America and We're going to have to wait a week to find out. Is there something mark that you look for for in your newly turn. Three year olds at this point in the season that you say okay they they have that it factor they have what it takes to be a factor moving down the road to the Kentucky Derby. Oh yeah I I mean I think you can look at horses and say you know can again this one go forward a lot of times. It's pedigree a lot of times. It's the and brains So it takes a lot it takes a lot and and more than anything it takes a while back but Definitely by this. It's time you know we're looking at is that we think could You know go on I would say that A year ago today I still had big question backs questions about Sir Winston I wasn't sure how good he was as yet and But WAR WILL I. I was very confident at this time. Last year. I think I can remember doing an interview review Down for Thinks it's name right now but down in New Orleans and he he said What do you think of your chances today? And I said I'd be surprised if he gets beat. And I don't say that very often but I had just the utmost confidence of war in war will well We're not we're not in the same. You know we are not on the same same page right now as we were a year ago so we have enforceable end. Today who enforceable is one of the horses he's gotTa humongous pedigree pool brother Demo Heynen also half brother another really good horse. Can't can't escape me right now. But he's a horse. We liked a lot but he is just been extremely slow to come around His last race was much better than it looks on paper and in David's extremely happy with the way he's trained up to this race so You know we're expecting big things out out of in today I if we don't see him today then he's just not I don't think he's good enough so We're we're looking for big things out of him today. Are there a couple of other three year olds in the Cassie Barn. That people should keep an eye on as we moved down this route short on my three year old colts right now. Um and one that I would tell you that we work game this morning. I'm in Miami today and we work in this morning we bought or recently broke his maiden name's untitled Broke his maiden at cough stream ran a ninety eight buyer One by ten. I'm excited about at him pretty soon this morning out of the gate and I just like so many things about him. He's a big tall lanky cold with a great mind and and Just lucky you know that we were able to get him in and now we need. We need to have some luck with him. He's going to Swail We have two you other cults that are in running allowance races today Strike Appeal and race driver. They're running that fairgrounds right now I would call them the B. Team Hopefully plea. After today we could call on them they will say earlier. You mentioned the name of the Belmont winner from last year Sir Winston. I saw that he had a breeze was yesterday at Acworth. Desert Right which day before the day before a guy for yeah? What's what's going on with him extremely well? We were very happy with the The only issue he pulled the shoe off during the work and then he stepped on it and He's been a little tender on and we're currently Soaking his foot and and insane I would say fifty fifty. I sent him up to run him in Chazal I think it's called and Next weekend right now I'd say we're fifty fifty two run. We're GONNA see. See Our foot response to that and If not we'll wait for the next one. My long term explains for him is is trying to get him to do by which I'm happy. He grew up a lot during his time off. He's a big handsome horse now. And and Training well so expect big things out of in We'll see what happens here with his foot. Just been on the phone with the Cheney Baig Egg who is my main assistant there knows no Sir Winston probably better in any way and he helped preparing for the Belmont and So we're we're seeing. He's he's soaking his foot as we speak what's going on with the preakness winner. IS HE GONNA race in two thousand twenty. Yes eastern well. He watched him train Yesterday morning before I drove down to Miami scrape. He's grown up. Some right now are feeling Is that. He's a great one winner on the dirt. We're going to try to make him a grade. One winner this year on the grass so that that's where we'll be focusing Probably the maybe around March or April April.

Steve Haskin Discuss What Is True Horseracing

"Listen I don't WanNa put a damper on things or anything but you know to me. This was not was not true. Horse racing at least as I know it And I I will say that the grass races were were all good. I have no problem with that but after after that a lot of things that just get ugly for me you know. I don't WanNa see horses and jockeys coming back on on a track labelled fast looking like they just been rolling in the sandbox I realized being zealous in their attempt to make detract safe which is understandable expandable. But in my opinion they did. They did at the expense of the racing I mean who's who says you have to make a track excessively really deep and tiring to make it safe. I mean they're they're faster race tracks. I go back look at the aqueduct over the years and they're all in in highly even even the old old Santa Anita track was always safe. Saratoga I mean these are basically safe racetracks. You know so. So what's going on now. I can understand but sometimes you can overdo something and you know. And as much as as I liked Vino Rosso in the classic and you know one all kinds of bets on them To tell you the truth I can never ever watch that race again for abuse reasons to search too much 'cause actually liked Mongolian groom ally and and actually thought at one point in the race that he looked like he was gonna Finish in the money but you know all the repercussions of that. which most I think most of it is just nonsensical? In fact I just read somewhere that you know the vet came that came out. The trainer came out and said it was perfectly sound. You know and understand these things happen. There's no there's absolutely no blame here at all. Just the fact that it happened. That hurts just like it's hurt from all the other incidents in fatal fatal incidents in the past. And you know I go back I was there for roughing it. I was there for go for one. That was there for prairie by you. I mean there for a lot of witnesses and every time you go through a little bit out of you and you know I I I just sort of get attached the Mongolian. Groom not only from a betting standpoint but I just like the connections and and the and the the horrible irony of it is the fact that you know right after the race. He stated emphatically that. They're not going that they don't want to put up two hundred thousand dollars and and then you figured some offers would come in to to get a piece of it and put up. Put up the the supplementary fee and they said you know now talking to date decided to change their mind put up the money and and and then this happened so I know how absolutely devastated everybody. Everybody was there So but you know that's not even what I'm talking about when I'm talking about About the debris come you know I. I just don't want to see the best distance. Sources in the country stagger home the last half a mile and fifty two seconds. That's not resource time time I you can make the track slower and slower and slower but it was weird because the the formula was the same old data. We're going faster early legitimate. The sprint races were run fast but I mean come home the last year from fifty two. I mean that's ridiculous and you know it wasn't that the horses were bad. It was at the race crack. You know that. They poured truckloads of sand on the day before the Breeders Cup. You know and speaking of the classic Nick and that Racetrack. I certainly don't want to see the V to bed. Closes in the country. Never even pick up their feet and get beat fifteen lengths and seventeen links like they're running through quicksand. And I had agreed with Doug mcgann. He's original plan to skip the Breeders Cup and was totally against it when they change their mind. I knew the odds were stacked against them. Being three year olds shipping West I quoted that statistic that they were over twenty two in the past. I and especially with the track favoring speed at that time and I had no idea that it would get even worse for him when he got there and I don't think I don't think shook did either either. I think he was Kinda surprised how how track was playing how deep it was and how come from behind horses were were just spinning their wheels. We also hallway so you don't WanNa see that you know you just don't want to see any kind of track bias when you've got the championships at stake. I mean it was a lot at stake. Code of honor but you know so. Now he's got to End His Campaign very ingloriously. But that's just the beginning You know you look at Look at the beach I mean I I I don't WanNa see arguably the most exciting and talked about horse in the the entire Breeders Cup. Who's been on just off the pace going six furlongs to a mile in an ace in every one of his starts eight and a half lengths back at the half mile? Call all of the dirt mile and still five lengths back at the poll. You know. He's he's still runs one of the best races of his life despite the track and he can't even get close to you know I'm not taking anything away from spun to run but he can't even get close to that horse. You know who was beaten nine links in the Haskell who I I was at parks when he beat gray magician by heading the smarty Jones he ran well in the Pennsylvania Derby but he's still fit and then suddenly turned into a superstar overnight. Overnight gets a one ten buyer and some small stakes at parks despite never having run a triple digit Byron his life so I mean Karama beach I mean even to get close to that horse and to come from that far out of it and where the heck was cold front you know in twelve career starts. He's I've been on the lead or within a link to the lead in every in every start in the met mile. He's on the leading forty four and one for the half but in this race he's running V v six and a half lengths off the lead. I mean I don't get that. Where was he so you want to run? As soon as he went out there you know and opened up to three lengths. She said nobody's nobody's going to catch the source on this racetrack. And like I said I thought I thought the Omaha Beach Randy terrific race to get second and even staying with the dirt mile. Yeah I don't WanNa see the second and third choices you look improbable and Mr Money. who were both being very highly touted touted By their trainers and many of the experts. And who would training brilliant leaguge swimming out there never picking their feet up then got beat nine of ten ten and three quarter lengths. You know now you get to midnight. Be Sue I don't WanNa see the best filling in the country unable to make up an inch aground. In the last days the mile with a final creates run in under forty seconds. You know what in the world we should be doing running ace at the top of the stretch You you know I mean it was a was it. A bad ride was just bad. Racing Locke was was big track. I mean take your pick but affiliates not supposed to be that far back and and if you watch the race you could see blue price who you know. Give her credit you know. She wants to come from off the pace but he had a made her she had to make a move move back stretch and it had lead ready at the eighth pole you know and then you know finally you look at Friday. I don't WanNA see your race with into the strongest W prospect. Seen in years. Completely fall apart. You have a forty five to one shot at twenty eight to one shot and thirty nine to one shot come from first third and fourth to finish one two three and the three to two shot running second stops to a walk getting beat over twelve lengths. You you know and then you know meanwhile before five shot and erase stumbles at the start and finish dead last so to me. That race was a total bust. In fact to tell you the truth by the way if somebody had told me a week before the Breeders Cup that we were GonNa see the Derby favourite less weekend and it would not be a it would not be any of the three favorites more. Would it be scabbard. Nor anybody else in the juvenile but it would be the winner of the national stakes the next day by far and away the most impressive two year old. Maybe most impressive overseeing the team your weekend and then you go to the other dirt race. On on Friday juvenile fillies you know we have to brilliant phillies coming off. A dominating wins literally staggering home rubber-legged in in an agonizing slow twenty seven three and seven and two for the last sixteenth of a mile. I didn't raise sources. Could run that slow so to to me. You know this is just one. I'M GONNA forget very quickly but this would have forgotten about it by now. If I didn't have to talk about out of here I listen. I'm sure I'm sure a lot of other people feel are being too harsh. But what can I do. It's just the way I feel. You know maybe it's just I've got too many Committee races behind me.

"GonNa. Go in the column so I wrote in my in that first column I wrote that <hes> a joke took me around introduced me <hes> to me to Marylou Whitney and it was it was it was equivalent of Joe <hes> in introducing his pet hamster. It was like like I wrote you know you know about her and you know went on you know I got to realize all the things that detailed and what a great lady was and you. It was <hes> it was by the way that count. Can you imagine me doing socialite column to show you how low I stooped by the way when I was up here looking for celebrities I saw Jimmy. This is right. This is right during the Dallas Cowboys Dynasty Right. This is nineteen ninety-four right right right right when the winning they're super bowls so I see Jimmy Johnson Person. I gotta get a cold but I don't want. You know I don't know what to do. Oh and Jimmy Johnson goes into the men's room so I follow him into the men's room. We're standing side-by-side at the urinals Nice. I said so Chimi. I said the first trip to Churchill downs. How do you like the Derby and you know I'm talking to and I'm getting quotes him staring standing at the euro next thing? That's what I realized I. I'm not made for this. This is not my kind of thing. No no it's not it's not my speed but <hes> and maintain the main thing with Mary Lou by the way is that where I really got to see how classy she was was after that a bird stones Belmont yeah you know it's it's easy to say that Oh someone was <hes> was said no she was usually is I was down there on the track with her and John and she was visually upset he he was almost near tears and I remember in in my column. I quoted her. <hes> is that are we we did a quote. She says I feel so awful for Smarty Jones. She's standing on the track waiting for the coming MHM Belmont and she said we were hoping we'd be second because I love smart. He's done more for racing than any horse. I've ever known and I apologize to everyone for B._G._N.. And he and he wasn't just saying this actually wait a second. I don't know owner in the country. That would say something like that. After winning the classic race and you gotTa remember is that it had been like fifty one years be in between classic victories sunny who had one you know the the Belmont stakes <hes> you know in like fifty one so whatever years that is so you know you would think that you know she hit now. She wins. You know shutting head one to balance only classics you have a one and she was and he was <hes> <hes> she he. I'm getting distracted by my wife who can't get out back door. She the doors stock and she's pulling the door here so <hes> I'm. I'm getting a bit distracted so she can't get out. She's she stuck in actually locked in now. You can't get out in the back and I can't help her. So <hes> you know there's nothing like nothing like live radio. She's pulling on the door and we got a she can't open the door so go upstairs read for a while and they'll help you get off the the <hes> anyway so <hes> it was <hes> area so Mary yes so Mary Lou I mean <hes> so you would think that she would be happy and then I went over to John and I said <hes> uh I say John. I said you know you still wanted to Belmont congratulations and John Says Oh no no no this is bad. Trust me. This is bad. Wow I mean you know anything like that and then I we were at the travers and of course everybody knows about the biblical storm.

"Silence. Smarty Jones on the bottom there. And you got all this dirt form talking about number eight win win win, by the way. I mean, he's you know, he's going to definitely have a chance to say this source. You know in the horse beat him. Last time is my top choice in the would to see this or higher. You wanna whatever you wanna call his name. But, but you know, and he was wide the other day down there Tampa. And you know, he kind of ran okay? But I think between Michael trumpeter source win win win in George. We resources for of the Koran borough coma is that what you want. Because I think those are two horses to beat in my opinion. All right. Well there you got win win win. But coma for John Gaspar Michael Hernan from gains way, who do you like actually like the one horse? It's a bit of taken a bit of a shot. Here. The source with a lot of speed. He drew the rail. He was impressive in his last race in at turf way won the Jeff ruby on the engine the whole way a was full a run. He's one at the mall, and they think that's significant and Tyler Gaffney owners back aboard for Mike makers horse here. And I just have a feeling that he's going to take to the dirt. He's by Kentucky Derby winner, big Brown out of a topic. Mayor all that says dirt to me. So I gave him a big chance. And I think once a good break. He'll be strong. Also agree that the coma the two horse his form strong. And he figures. Close as well. And then Kenny mcpeek source signalman number three, he was impressive Churchill and the jockey club. He ran well here Kaelin last year in the breeders future. The was beaten five lengths, however, and he's training really well and the spring a big rangy good luck in horse very well bought horse thirty two thousand and he probably run as best race at Churchill. And again, of course, he's won over that track relish the long stretch. But he's a quality runner. But I'm going to give the edge to the front end horse number one smoke at to the Brown. And he goes to for the first time and he's ten to one morning line. So he he's a good price to us with some others that you might like. Yeah. Big pricey should be a good one. Some like it hot Brown. It's a bit of a tongue twister to. It's all spelled together to it all kind of. Runs together. Number one here in the Toyota bluegrass stakes mile and an eighth on the main track should be a fast main track and a gorgeous day here at Keelan JT. I have a feeling I know who you're going with. But who is the bluegrass signalman? I knew this. I knew you were going with signalman you've been high in this horse all year. Everybody has to play catch up to him. He's got the best pace and speed figures. He's the he's the best horse in the race on what he's done. Everybody else has to move up to beat him off of his best race. And I just can't believe he's being ignored so much. He's a very good horse. And he needed his last race. He's a big lumbering horse. He wasn't going to be fit off the layoff. They've they've worked a lot harder. Like code of honor style. He's responded in today's his day. Yeah. I I can't see him beating win win win in here. I I love this horse today. I think he is the best late pace numbers. He'll be in a good stocking position. He had a terrible trip last time out in the Tampa Bay derby. I gotta think win win win is the winner of the Toyota bluegrass, and that's probably the only pick. I'm gonna give out on this show today. So there you have it the Barron's best bet about that. You've liked him for a long time. Yeah. I do. All right. We're gonna get to another break. We'll come back. We'll take a look at the Wood Memorial. We'll take a look at the San any derby. And if we. Have time we can focus on another race. But we'll get to those two in our next segment with Michael Hernan..

"And you can't pick out. He can't pick out the aces spades from the from. 'cause they roll too close to each other. But there were little things to look at in this race. And if you wanna look at cats at his I gotta tell you, I I didn't expect that at all. I mean, his voice who he had looking thera graph. He was the second slowest horse on thoroughbred and buyer going into that race in the in the whole field. Checking slowest in he he went into this races to waste as last year. Yet running four months he broke his maiden by a neck his to his his two races. He had last year. And he got he got eight on both of them say why he's not ready to win this race. The fact that he won the way he did saying, wow, you talk about a work in progress. I mean, this was just a the baby's running with his head up. Got a big long stripe to him. But I said but the racy win coming through horses stretch. Besides the fact that he's running with his head up. He's wanting like like an old pro. You know, like a veteran shit where does this come from? And they're gonna see if he did this now running basically as a baby how are you going to be going to come sign for the derby? That's the reason why I ranked him so high when I ranked number four 'cause normally I wouldn't in a race where you have so many horses so close to each other. But he had so much going against him in this race. And he also had an outside post everything against them. And while the winds up on the inside, you know, split sources, and I should I don't I don't know what the vitamin sources. I mean, not only to improve. But he's going to improve a lot. So that's why I ranked the mind, but this is over the rank I mean everybody else's against you know, and as far as win win win. You know, I know I'm stubborn keeping them at at at number five. But again, he had he had a terrible start. I wanna hear what they can do any Blake sharply. He had been you know, he got squeezed back. He was way too far back. He's like he's like ten eleven Lang side of it. He ran thirty feet farther than the winner. On track is the second and third quarters in twenty three one and twenty two four. You see you you run you run after old after opening quarter. You run the next forty six. And you and you still eleven lengths out of it. And then he he's racing wide the entire way. And then at the end, you know, he he. He comes in wide, and you know, plot plot plugging along the stretch trying to come and then sixteen mile looked like he founded of the year gave another surge. And I thought it was moving well enough. And I thought basically everything going against him again, you know, there's a lot of there's a lot of miler in his pedigree. So you really don't know how far he wants to go. But I think you you can't you can't knock them off for that race. I wanna see what he does would you know, when he finds what is running style is. Because you gotta remember in his first two starts his life. He showed good early speed on five and a half rollo's. Ver- really good early speed. And the only reason you know, is is to racist. After that he came from item. It was because you broke slowly like he did the amp debate Irby. So I just wanna see where he can actually place himself with a clean break. I don't know enough about him. No, he's. Tremendous amount of talent. And again, I you know, I was influenced a great deal by Charlotte web. Right. You know, I guess part of me roots for somebody like that to get a horse like this. And you gotta love is. You know, you know, his side was Japanese ready was a mile sprint. I know that and smarty Jones was basically a mild amount. Of course, that was classy enough to stretch out for the derby..

I think that's it. You can you can bring J, you know. But I think that's all we got here. I think the Philly rates the Tampa Bay oaks race on Crete rose. Just crazy. Good of. I don't know. I haven't seen odds or anything else. I mean as hammer might have mentioned last week. The odds of the two of us being one being on one coast. And then the other on the other coast vote seeing Broadway productions of hamlet and caps graph. I so I I'm not as well tuned as I used to be but concrete rose, I think is the best bet. I love it. "He has a couple of horses that he thinks might be just as good as those two or maybe a touch below that. He would rather run that horse by itself. Like, let's say roadster in Arkansas versus having roadster go against improbable in shipping. Game-winner vice versa. Those are the two things. I think might be played Gary. What do you think? James? Yeah. I think the latter has something perhaps to do with the because. Yeah. I mean, Gary totally surprised me when I saw the news. I mean, my I thought it was a negative. But I mean who is in a negative for you know, I I I don't have any idea what it means. But I know that like even last year. I mean, he was gonna he publicly. Said justify will head to Arkansas MacKenzie sanity derby, and it wouldn't until MacKenzie was hurt off the trail that he shifted pass for justify. So, yeah, he's always had a willingness, but you know, they've already run he's won. So many of those Arkansas preps, you know, you know, especially here in recent years and they've already run two of their four races. And he hasn't shipped a horse re the one of them, and he was in that he was in both of them last year who's in both the smarty Jones and the southwest, and I find it a little odd that hasn't shifted either any horse free that one of those races so far. And now this news with. Keeping improbable game winner in the same perp. Yeah. And the other thing Gary listeners that I think maybe could be play just from a political standpoint, as you know, several of Bob's owners are very involved in the te'o. See Santa Anita in southern California gives Bob a lot of stalls. And I'm sure works with them as they would any horsemen of of his clout. And you know, maybe they've they've said, hey, you know, we love it. If you ran more your three year olds here instead of just one at a time and the racist coming up for both of them. Then let let's see what you got. So I think a lot of different things be play. I guess my final thought on the matter would be I wouldn't read it into it as a positive or negative for either horse out with the the workout reports and the board. You know, tell me maybe where to side and who knows who else is in there. Maybe it's it's a chance to. To snipe them off the layoff. And and you you get a pry an even better price on someone else. But yeah, very interesting move from Bob who we know is not shy about shipping, Oaklawn or even Akwa dot so interesting move for sure and we have thirty minutes to go after thirty minutes in time.

"Those are both at a mile, and he rolled in the Pennsylvania nursery. You'll remember depends on this review. That's the race smarty Jones closed out his two year old campaign went in two thousand three before winning the first two legs of the triple crown in two thousand four it's called Paul's first start in two months, and he'll return for a streaking Jason service who goes into the weekend winning it over forty percent down at go free. Yeah. Jason's on a roll. Again. You had that that little slump where dropped down to twenty percent wins during summer. You know, we were talking about this on on talking horses this morning here act, and I turn to Andy Serling point. I was like, you know, Jason services winning seventeen percent and unjaded service like seventeen percent. There are trainers. That would sacrifice five years of their career. If they could win at the end of the day at seventeen percent, right. And we think we well he is he slumping at seventeen percent here in New York. But I mean down a Gulfstream, it's business as usual. Yeah. Well, you know, you got to take the whole operation. I guess, but it's a it's just a an amazing streak. He's been on. And in a when when you're saddling horses like call Paul makes your job easier. I of always been under the impression that call Paul is is a sprinter. This is seven eighths probably the top of his scale the two races. He ran go into mile. Finished third in both those losing ground in the stretch. I I think he's best some prolongs are or under one turn races. I think that's where he's going to make his bread and butter. I don't consider him a derby horse. Really? There's a lot of nice colts in in this race. I mean. Some of them are actually bred to go a little farther like high crime, he might be able to stretch out at a different date, maybe Zenden on the outside, but the horse I really like seismic jolt. He's just getting better and better and better with with experience. And and. Racing. He won the lime house last time relatively easily. I think seven furlongs well within his scope one of the things I like about him his his pace numbers keep improving and his late pace numbers. Keep improving he just keeps getting stronger in his performances. He was an eight hundred thousand OB s April two year old. So you know, he's got the parts we've seen that he can run. And he's getting better. Everything stays the same. David FOX, Tyler Gaffney, Leo. I'm gonna take number eight seismic jolt. Yeah. Lasted we're on dart. I think that's been really the key. Switching them to the surface that he's probably going to do is best work on. And look he lost his debut, the fog a war. We know what I think a fog of war was already a great one winner. Gladiator king came back to win after breaking his maiden on the turf. And then they switch them to the dirt. And he just he rolled he absolutely rolled in both of his starts. Now. He's gonna step out of the Florida bred competition. He's run open company and hear that something's ending already done to his outside the number nine. It's something the eleven country singer Kentucky bred, I don't know. What happened first time out with country singer dental Gulfstream Park, but they gave them five weeks. He came back and broke his maiden. Then boy off that seven-week break..

"In fact, maybe for the first raises, you didn't decrease your chance, but you didn't increase because ranking number one knows or ridden even raises he knows that there is any kind of quirk with that ores because he's been on in racing. Also, he's been on a zillion times in the morning. He knows that or in and out, and I was a little bit Vardon when I saw they talking off the worst, you know, trainers and owners get together. And they decide what they want to. Do. It to me, you know, I look back at other situations occurred, and maybe with me, but I look at one situation that occurred at parks with a regional rider the studio Elliott situation, John service that you wish in of when when they were with the name that was he who Maximus now Maximus when John service had a contender in the derby. You think you mean, you don't mean back when we not much on service. You mean, Alex we Elliott? It was a funny Alex, though, that it was a fleet Alex that had the incident that was fleet. Alex is another example with Jeremy rose. Yeah. I ten Ricky. I have a I can't figure the name of the, you know, the Lord, I even got my as a America any branch of the heart. We mean smarty mighty house. Yeah. He you know, what I am bring that. I. Fro? Example ninety Kashin. Smarty Jones and John service and Stuey Elliott. I mean, John stuff, which do you know, you gotta give him credit. John is always for John. You know, Gordon business is business John he stuck with Dewey, and there were a high profile riders business where the mount on that when the show that even going to be a contender, you know, there be bringing Belmont, but John stuck with and I was a little designed this point. When I didn't see each owners who had experience with the fleet, Alex, right? That the he had experienced with me dollars and stuck with Jeremy rose five. Why didn't they stick with a rider like he still didn't they didn't entirely, and that's the point with when it comes to Jeremy rose because your member they had the race that they gave Johnny John Velazquez got a call. And and went disaster. Her asleep member. And also it also just so happened that you know, that he that he had the respiratory issue that that contributed clearly to you know, to the performance, but that then they went back to Jeremy because the assumption was oh, a fleet Alex isn't all that special. And then he meal, then he went on the run. Yeah. I don't know if they lead Alec wasn't all that special and yet, and they went back to Jeremy would you know, maybe entered into it lightly entered into it. Jeremy got experience with Jin Richie window would go back to it. You know, whatever the whatever their division win -fluenced our decisions they did go back. But you gotta give John service read it when it.

"You you you you're not sure what to expect? But jeez. I mean. I happen to watch that race. That was pretty on Spiring race means he was tremendous. Obviously, the fractions are inaccurate. And he's not possible than a quick the first quarter Gulfstream but not why race new very fast race. And he won by what fourteen likes? Who knows? I mean. Jeez. Is that gonna dry tracks? The the other courses heading towards the triple crown trail in trouble. But we'll see see what can you say that was that was some performance on way from from. I would say that. In all likelihood, he's an extraordinarily talented horse on. It means the derby horse. There's two ways separate so many people. Talking jury Turbie my answer would be I don't know if he's a horse in the derby. But a very good worse. You just need to see what he can doesn't dry track. You know? But. Was that was some performance? Now, and and Bill Maher himself taking a wait and see let's as. That's his his his MO threes. The I don't. Exact same some some things, you know, exactly. You know, basically the same thing. Obviously, they I'm sure they had high hopes for them. And apparently the working well in Saratoga before you on the sidelines, but when wet track nobody's looking wet track. Those kind of tracks can be deceptive. Look in the debut of loose equality. Right. It's a very similar one the wet track. Belmont, right? And you got a hundred to buyer mile sixteenth winning while five hundred you also have to be an extremely good horse. Right. You know, if you look at the records of forces that have these high by or debut impressive wins. The ones that state sound. Most of them turned out to be very good worse. That's not random. It's not some sort of operational thing. This is a good horse where he ends up showing where he's gonna worse remains to be seen. Very fair. I mean, that's that. And that's the the reasonable approach to take. And I pointed out this morning. The fact on that topic. There was a horse that ran. In the Sugar Bowl. And then again in the smarty Jones, this super Steed that had had a, you know, as a two year old the big fig Churchill eighty seven buyer and broke his maiden allowance, and there was a lot. There was some buzz and excitement and now in four career starts the only good performance. You know, the only major performance was the the wet track. And these been a disappointment subsequently in.

If they do if he'll be able to be affected, but he's certainly been all he's won four straight now to no, he's he's he's been terrific. I mean, he was always had some talent. But he really seems we put into the speed seems to be flourishing. These longer raises is he's able to get away with which, you know, moderate fraction returns him sort of into a long Gade sprints with the advantage. But still. This follows up his his Alex, rob right before the New Year's couple of other performances. In fact, let's stay before we talk about Sunday. Let's stick with Saturday for minute built a suit came back. And that may have been a a flare to take notice. That was a terrific effort by the ridge. But I agree. He was press point one hundred fire where that came from. It's funny. I, you know, I never I just I mean, you know, I heard he was coming back. But. Not that I was sort of non plus it's not like I was thinking oh gosh. Way to build a suit gets. But I ran into it tattoo in New York after the race as walking upstairs, and he said, boy, I was incredibly. So, you know, there's a sort of hoping, you know, the board run. Well, he hadn't been out. I mean, he he and both he and bricks and mortar very similar probably. Right. It was about fifteen months. And it's like, wow, they were really surprised and was very good. I guess they gonna raise like that. I think we give them a shot at York Ren steak. Why not right? Oh, absolutely. Of course, that's a luxury. You're going to have with only allowance conditioning as ours to against open. So why not? Just really have you know, much left as far as conditions. We had I was that was something. Exploded. Turn as well to Sunday and nice story that in fact, I saw where Jessica MARTINI and TBN. She jumped on the story, and I did look up. What JiJi means it? Thanks for the call eight nine six six four seven seven six. Smarty Jones goes as the eighth tomorrow. Ed, that's right. He's very great card. Little cold in the morning, but. Looks to warm up a little bit. But brought brought the cold weather gear. So not too concerned. And that's too good field nine horses, maybe eight if Jack Bemberg scratches he's entered on Saturday got some speed got some stakes winners, including Bank, it that you probably saw few times New York bred stakes winner. So. Yeah. Looking forward to end some points in Arkansas. Yeah, we'll try and sneak that on the afternoon show tomorrow forgot that it's it's kind of early in the day to they usually run those stakes races. So late in the afternoon. But I think it's kind of early. Yeah. They post times at twelve thirty eastern. So this one fifty two and they'll be they'll be done with the card by four thirty local time. So it gives me time to do some writing and get some food so four thirty. Okay. So we should be looking at the the smarty Jones going off right around four fifty two eastern time. That's right. Okay. Great. Yeah. We'll try that on the show tomorrow ten derby points on a line that the first year, derby points. No, somehow is not achieved graded status. The spike given given up points the last few years, but which I understand don't go hand in hand. But no, no, no great. But has has had some derby points at the last two years. Okay. All right. Yeah. Because you're right. The grades usually go hand in hand, but I notice springboard mile and some other races as well. Yeah. Sure. I'll get that. Great sooner rather than later back to the phone lines. We go it's Dave in.

"Shown urine, you're out. I just need to cut it out. There. You can listen to you. That's what that's what this is about. That's what the exercise is supposed to be is identifying. Yeah. At the end of the I mean, you know day to day think, oh, you know, why does this horse that I like only fifty percent of the show pool? That's an overlay. And you know, you put whatever down, and it doesn't work out. And you don't worry about it. 'cause it's the one show that you made that week. And then you go to the end of the year, and what the hack how do you lose fifty percent on show, bats, or whatever it is. And just, you know, just not not a strength of mine clearly in just need to avoid need to avoid it. I mean, it's just a bankroll killer. Overall. It seems for me saying other people can't have their angles. And but like you said, that's why you do this. And if it works for you keep working, but if it doesn't need to adjust. Well, this came this posted on Monday and horse written twenty eighteen horse racing. Gambling results by ad and it's in the blog role and Brisbane that Anna twin spires, and it's it's worth a read. And and it it might I'm terrible at at the record keeping and part of my problem is, of course, at Saratoga, you know, you're walking around, and and you're watching the board and you throw cash down. And then you're you're online, and you know, by the time, you're done. You have no idea what the hell, you know. You know? Go to dinner that you spend you spend what you made. You try to recreate what you bet you have no idea. So I'm terrible. At it. The let's talk about the seven eight minutes to talk about Oaklawn tomorrow. And what you've already looked at. Smarty jones. And this is a lot of fun. And we're going to get a we're going to get an insta- read on the springboard mile. We're going to get a little bit of a hint as to the early season at fairgrounds on the three year olds with grey attempt and superstar give us some thoughts. Yet competitive rate, and I was impressed for this time of year. I mean, we see a lot of the points race to to get up and coming maidens, and you know, maybe they tried allowance or try to stay and they stretch out, but this has five steak pointers from the nine entrance and multiple stakes winner range Taty out of the the springboard miles. So. Yeah agree with you competitive good gauge where the talent might be especially in this part of the country. I landed on grey attempt on top. I mean, especially the Jack member comes out that sets an even bigger boost outside post a little bit of a concern. This is a short stretch mile configuration inside definitely preferred. But if he clears his lone speed or controlling speed that shouldn't be an issue under Sean Mahan. I know after the Sugar Bowl. There was some chatter about distance. But everything I've looked at on great are. I mean. Maybe. Yeah, you're concerned about amount in either amount of quarter. But I don't see any issue with the to turn mile with the speedy has. So definitely is my most likely winner did think for love of country deserved. A look at at the what the price might be assuming Bank it takes money..

"Seem have that goes. But he's son wrote him very well. And he's got a lot of a lot of faith in, you know. So that's what won't when the rider gets on me want them to think that they got a winner. Well, and boy that would be you both. There's a lot of people jinx that that deserve a derby in their careers. And the you if you and Sean Bridgman can make this make this run. It'll it'll be great. Rooting for what thank you predict that not at all jinks. Fires everybody and the looks like jinx is on the March gray attempt out of the Sugar Bowl. And getting ready for the smarty Jones to kick off the Oaklawn season on Monday. Right. The twenty-first. Twenty twenty fifth. Okay. The friday. There you go Friday. That's uh. Excellent. Good luck.
