Former FBI lawyer Lisa Page suing Justice Department, FBI for disclosing text messages
"December tenth. FBI lawyer Lisa Page filed a lawsuit against the Department of Justice Bill Barney FBI for alleged violations terms of the privacy act related to the disclosure of information about her to the media. Lisa page claims that the disclosure were text messages. Peter Struck to media outlets by the Department of Justice were illegal and improper. Her suit was filed in federal court in DC and she alleges the text messages were released to promote a false narrative that she struck and others had conspired to undermine mine trump illegally and there are texts were released inviolate released in violation of the Federal Privacy. Act Without her consent and they were released to elevate the Department of Justice's standing with trump up Following the president's repeated public attacks of the Department of Justice and the Attorney General Jeff Sessions hirsute comes just a day. After the Inspector General released his Report Report on you know proper opening of the investigation into trump that found there was no evidence that political bias sparked the probe so she suing. Yeah Okay you guys covered this more closely than I did at the time because I wasn't yet on the show but what reason did the Republicans have or the department. One of justice have for obtaining text messages. What was the motivation obtaining them? I don't know yeah releasing them is the key here right now. They were done on some of them were done on. FBI phones okay and Inspector General had been looking into the struck page Well just bias at all then in department I since two thousand eighteen. So that's when they found the text messages right and then somebody out. The Department of Justice invited the media into read selected not the entire text exchanges changes selected text messages taken out of context. They were told they couldn't take notes and they were told they couldn't say that it was sourced by the Department of Justice. They wanted to keep their sources that them being the source source a secret from the public so so I think so yeah. I think she'll win. Yeah also today the House Democrats have filed a thirty nine page document commit on the application for recall and stay in the Deutsche Bank capital one case that is set to be considered by the Supreme Court during their private conference. This Friday This is the one that Ruth Bader Ginsburg granted a temporary stay for her temporary stay blocked Deutsche Bank from handing over trump's financial trump and trump businesses financial documents documents Over two House Democrats. And she she had that administrative. Stay in. Its in place until Friday at five PM If Scotus does not not grant the stay are. BG's stay will expire and the Deutsche Bank and capital one institutions will have to hand over all the documents that were subpoenaed needed by the house. Democrats this filing by the House asks the Supreme Court to treat the stay request in the Deutsche Bank case as a cert petition which would let them act act on it as well as the toomas ours cases it will also consider Friday. They're asking Scotus to deny the stay and the search in the other cases and additionally they're requesting that if Skoda's does grant the stay and the starts to act expeditiously because there's no reason for Skoda's to provide any further review in any of those cases we will see what goes decides and the and the reason how stems gives us gives us a really good one. They're like look. We're coming up on a deadline here for impeachment Peach Mint and we need these like now
VW chief's Nazi gaffe angers investors
"Independent. Investors have raised questions about the future. Volkswagen's chief executive Herbert dece after he evaded Nazi phrase in a management meeting last week. John many brand discusses the controversy with Patrick gave. Patrick what exactly did Mr. d say the private meeting to w clock badgers, and he was explaining that the twelve brands within Volkswagen that includes Porsche Audi Skoda's yacht. They're managed differently. And he was saying that Porsche because it has seventeen percent margins doesn't really have taught managing breathing down their neck about how to get things done. And he was basically saying if you are a different brand, and you want to have that same kind of freedom prophets will set you free. And so he said Yvette maxed fry which is really similar to our by MAC fry which was in blazoned at the Auschwitz concentration camps. So VW has unfortunate links with the Third Reich because we know is it possible that the head of a company that was founded at the behest of Adolf Hitler and relied on concentration camp labor during its early days could be unaware of the offense his remarks might have caused. I do think it's possible. The question is whether that. That means anything maybe that falls towards negligence or being Bolivia's. But you know, you're supposed to be super aware of these comments and of the history. And actually he's made a point of saying that he's aware of the history he visited outfits last year, he visited yet but shown in Jerusalem last year who was actually one of his first access CEO. So he is conscious of this. And this is just a major blunder. But I have spoken people who are in the room and more than half of them have told me they didn't make the connection either in part because what he was saying was really such a sort of benign comment that, you know, prophets will sort of help you. Nobody was thinking in terms of historical connections to folks against darkest days. Then again, a hassle going to people who say as soon as he said, I recognize the historical blunder, and it's worth knowing that Mr. de said the comments to an even five times, according to some people. So I think he was rather oblivious to it. I don't think he was putting on it. But it's hard to say, and I get inside his mind. So how did misdeeds explain it? Itself. Mr. has a pretty active linked in page where he puts up sell fees with join Adela from Microsoft, and that sort of thing that's actually working chose to write his apology. He basically said I apologize unreservedly Inouye was I trying to make this connection, and it's worth knowing that that came immediately. There was no hesitation on his part or anything and welcomed by multiple parties. And what's been the reaction of shareholders and investors? So when we talk about investors with Volkswagen it's worth knowing we're almost exclusively talking about minority shareholders because three groups hold ninety percent of the shares of the ten percent that's held by you know, you and I'm on pop investors institutions I've spoken to several who were outraged and defended and some of them as we've written in the have called for him to go. They think that this represents a really big misjudgment and calls into question some of his other decision making. But he's also made a lot of enemies within Volkswagen by trying to lift margin by. By going after the cost structure wanting to lay people off wanting to shift Volkswagen into a new direction focused on electric occasion, which will reduce the workforce over the next ten years. And I think there's a lot of people who weren't necessarily offended by the statement. But they see this as an opportunity to either hurt dece or to get rid of him because they're already against him when did Mr. deeds joined VW, and how'd you think his performance is rated currently by shareholders? He was a BMW board member for a while he joined Volkswagen in July two thousand fifteen now that just three months before the diesel scandal was exposed it's pretty unfortunate timing because it's not late enough to be fully cleaned from the diesel scandal. So he's actually been under investigation since two thousand sixteen by German prosecutors because there's a big big shareholder case that still hasn't gone to court or just in the early stages of going to court now where shareholders are seeking damages of nine billion euros because they believe. Board told them too late about the diesel scandal. They needed to be informed earlier. So DC's was the head of the VW brand not the head of the W group at the time. But he's implicated in that ended remains to be seen whether that be troublesome for him later on. He was only promoted to the Volkswagen group kief executive eleven months ago. So do you think he'll survive this latest scandal and give them the company's ownership structures? You explain it who would have the power to remove him basically to forces that could have the power. So one is the portion peac family that owns fifty three percent of the entire company so far from awful sources, I know that they still back him entirely, and he has such a big job to do right now. They've been very pleased with him. I would be pretty surprised that they turned on him over this comment. The other however is a little more contentious so Volkswagen supervisory board who really has all the power has twenty seats. Ten of them Gherman law, go to the labor union and then two of them come from lower south. Axes state where they have their headquarters. So that gives a majority right twelve out of twenty two basically the workers because Lower Saxony size of the workers because of the way politics works. So if they really turn against him than that's how you could see Mr. being ousted. So finally, Patrick VW has a history of unforced errors, and given this latest blundered, you think Mr. DC's really the man to turn around Volkswagen's fortunes. I can tell this blunder. It would be a really simple answer. And you would say yes shareholders have generally been big cheerleaders of Mr. dece in large part because he's known to be a very tough negotiator with the unions. He wants to cut costs here there and everywhere and Volkswagen under his leadership is making a full throttle turn towards electrification on a level that you're just not seeing with the groups that rival them in terms of car sold. So that would be renault-nissan Toyota General Motors, so electric vacation really is the future of automotive. Volkswagen has. Lake over everyone else. Nobody else is really willing to take that sort of risk. But the other question, of course, is corporate governance and cultural reform, and with this kind of comment, I suppose that gets put into question, but there are a lot of people who think that this whole episode was sort of silly. It was obviously an unfortunate error, and it doesn't have wider implications to really depends where you fall into that question. And I think one interesting parallel is that when the Volkswagen scandal was exposed Martin vinter corn the CEO step down within a week and the head of Porsche. But he has Mueller took over within a few months. He went to the Detroit auto show and was asked about this scandal by NPR, and he said, very clearly we didn't lie, and I would think that was actually a bigger gaffe than actually what just said because it was just months after the diesel scandal. It was a really sensitive time. And it was already clear at that point that Volkswagen had engaged in a cover up for a year after more than ten years of cheating. So to say. We didn't lie was just such a big thing. So I do think dis has a strong credibility with investors. Even with this gaffe, and in general, he does have the credibility to take this company in new direction. He's really got the portion peac families on board. And you know, they're often seen as the problem for Volkswagen being to your credit ads not looking after shareholders. So so long as these surprise next week. I think he'll be there for quite a bit more time at least a year or

"Well, if if that's the case will you have more Democrats coming out saying, okay and more liberal media saying you need to get to the table, you need to work a deal at least ask for something. Quits sitting on your hands. Because I think the president if he makes the effort between now and the first the next payday. If he makes that effort consistently. And and gives more as giving more and more than at some point. She's going to have to show up. She's going to have to show up to the table. Well, that's why I wondered why the narrative changed so quickly because over the last couple of days, what was coming out of the White House's will hold it, an alternative place, another place another place another place another place. You heard the possibility of could it be held in in in the Senate chambers. We heard down by the border, but the White House kept going in that they kept the narrative going the president said when he was when he was having a round table yesterday. Which by the way was soon as I saw that I said good, except it should have been prime time because I pay attention to the news. And didn't know you were having a immigration roundtable today. And so it does no good. If the America if if isn't splashed across in prime time, so the American public can see it, right? Which is something we said he should have been doing two years ago. But still I was glad to see that it was that it was going on. But he was being asked questions and he went about Nancy's response. And and he said, well, you know, there's always always we'll talk about later, but we'll. See whether we can, you know, do it in an alternate place. So they were still talking about it. And all of a sudden, they're him. And I wake up I wake up, you know, to get ready to show and boom. The complete narrative has changed. Sorry. We're not gonna do it. So what why did they make that decision? Why did they go from an alternative site to? Nope. Not gonna happen. What happened in those few hours? What is their plan? I tend to think that they have some type of plan. They just didn't do it. Well, no because we believe that it should be done in the house chambers because of the tradition would look at it always hasn't been done in the house chamber. It's been it's been, you know, they extend the invitation, but many presidents have written it. It is a tradition that we expect I believe in our lifetime. But it hasn't always been done. That hasn't always been done that way. So why did he do it? Look, it's unprecedented. That she did it do they believe that they can win points alone. And and just focused and say, look, it's Nancy that stopped this from from happening or do they want to use a combination of being able to blame her for doing something that is just reprehensible and being able to? Portray it that way. And then at the same time also have something else on the back burner. We wanna make her look bad there. And we want to make her look bad they're here. And does that mean that they have decided that that offer you know, that thing that axios was written wrote about yesterday morning? The by the time they got to the end of the day. They said that's where we have to go. We have to show the public that. She is the one that is stopping any movement that she won't let the state of the union go on and she will not negotiate, and we are offering them things, and we will continue to offer them things that they would have absolutely signed onto at any other time that the Democrats have been in power in the exchange of blows. What is the negative politically? Well, it's unprecedented for Nancy Pelosi to make this move. But if you go back and said, well, we're going to do it. Anyway, then the story becomes that. Not the unprecedented move. So that negative on her basically is wash. So then you look at okay what's the positive for the president right now. Only offered something to the extent that the editorial board at the Washington Post decided to go that route think about that. That's that's a big deal in that. There are at least saying Nancy. Why don't you at least ask for something? Why why don't you try and get something done out of this? You you claim you're trying to do something for people. You could help all of these Dacca recipients. And you're saying, no, you know, what's interesting is that, you know, Skoda's on the DACA case on Tuesday. You know, there is not going to be really any change in that in the courts right now. So that's a that's a that's something that I think has to play into this. So after the Tuesday Scottish thing on DACA. You look at it. You say, okay. Wait a minute. Is it better to get up there next Tuesday night and offer something and then they they give you nothing. Or is it better to keep reaching out making a little bit? You're making the effort if you think about who is trying to convince his base. I tend to believe a number of his base if he ends up they end up offering, and and and the Democrats get permanent legal residents for data Scipion only attend to base. I tend to believe that his base is still going to show up for him in two thousand twenty you may have some that won't. But by and large they will. And where do you make gains? You make gains with the people the Democrats like the ones we've heard from. And they're the ones that look at this and go, wait a minute. He's the one trying to do something positive. He's the one he's the one reaching out even the editorial board of the Washington Post acknowledging look you've got you've got something. You've got an opportunity Nancy go ask for something. So he's the one that keeps the door open. He's the one willing to reach across the aisles. He's the one looking to make a deal, and she is silent and rescinding an offer in an unprecedented fashion. So what's the timeline? The timeline has to be that. I mean here we are two Thursday. So you want this full weekend Sunday morning news shows. Yeah. So if something is going to happen. And that's why I tend to believe it is. And and you and I've talked about where the president might be going the they actually has a story yesterday morning said almost exactly what we have said that Kushner's looking at exactly what we said, you take the next step you go beyond just letting them extend how long the DACA recipients can stay to a not citizenship. We had somebody called citizens. Should we said? No, no, no. Because I goes too, far you you do it incrementally. So the next thing would be on campus. Green cards the or say a path degreen cards. We don't get the green card immediately. But the fact is whatever that path would. But that's how they're saying. It is a path to a green card, and then you hit that today. You hit it you hit it Friday big time. You're all you send your people to everywhere saying we're offering because look you go on MSNBC. You can set you can send your Representative MSNBC. We're offering something the Democrats have cried for and you know, as well as I do. And there isn't there isn't anybody in the media can say that the Democrats haven't been for border fencing that they haven't been for barriers. You can't say that. It'd be intellectually honest, you go out you promote the daylights out of it. And then you're also on all the Sunday morning news shows, you you are the new story today. Friday, when you send everybody out with everybody's analyzing it then Saturday, then right back in the Sunday morning news shows where you're back on it again. And you see where it takes you for the beginning of next week while because you can even have some of the Republicans who have not completely been in lockstep with the president even Lindsey Graham at times, you know, on on a number of things Syria, or whatever it might be those individuals going out think about that those individuals going outgoing look the Democrats get a couple of wins here. They're not getting a two thousand mile wall. They're not getting the he's not or he's not getting it. He's not getting twenty five billion. He's getting five point seven. These getting is an and as you mentioned and Democrats in the past recent years has supported barriers the the the imagery of the president is that the president is unreasonable and harsh that is what the Democrats have attempted to portray him as as his image over and over and over and over and over again Aventura, as we have said, the reason that we said, the president should have been promoting this from the very beginning with town hall meetings and the DA out there talking about the drugs crossing the border and doing town hall meetings on border cities and bringing everybody who's involved in the federal government on it is because what you want to do nothing. You're proposing is extreme everything is normal in the mainstream of what the American public wants. That's how you promote it. That's what you have to do. I don't know. Again. I've always said, I don't know if he has enough to to to do it. I'm extremely impressed. What has happened over the last week, politically, you know, what? He is done. And how consistent he has been since he was ready to capitulate completely right before Christmas and give the Democrats everything and get absolutely nothing in return until the conservative media. Got the pro wall conservative media got on his case. And and advise, you know, and and I think warned him we represent a huge base of people that will be awfully ticked off. If you get there because nobody bought the fact that he could have gotten the money elsewhere and could have accomplished it alone. Right. Nobody in the conservative media did. That's why that's why there was that pushback. And that's why even the national -mergency thing wasn't really a great, Sal. And now, you don't hear it at all. I mean, there's been no talk for about calling a national emergency that seems to have disappeared completely off the narrative. So where do you go? There's only one place to go. And what you do is as long as you possibly can last this out. You portray yourself as the reasonable one and Nancy is the radical. Yup. Nancy is. The one eight six six ninety redeye. Open.

When the prescribing this stuff, they don't ask you if you have any issues with diction and quickly started taking a lot more than I was described which is very dry. No for your friends have had the same sort of issue. Right. You already have an issue with fucking drugs. I met with a ready recreational drugs and alcohol, then you get prescribing actual, you know. Yes. You get you get prescribed drugs to kind of help with an element that you might have. And why has some sort of you know, net affects way kind of you feel good has some net benefits was what's gonna happen? You're you're gonna go one one Ray a one way one Ray Jesus like any other substance of ever known. I pushed it to the point of some huge dramatic life or death situation, as you know, as you know, thankfully, it was life, but it was drama, and I was very lucky to get away with. I went cold Turkey and had about free month come down following an overdose on a plane. I didn't notice this is this is this one of the news in the scene that McCullough had other sort of line. I'm assuming it must be because he's mentioned, maybe he's the interviews. Hutus interview who to speak into here, as you know, Alexander Mckee, sir. No sorry. I'm Jamie Christon. Maybe this guy knows maybe seen. I didn't even see him is true, which must be a fucking nightmare. Right. What is there is? Is there a worst place to have a fucking overdose on the fucking airplane like Jesus Christ Bishop especially like hopefully going to fuck in Tokyo. Right. Because that is horrendous having on airplane. What the they going to do you have to emergency landing? I'm assuming right, which is well what nightmare. Yes. That must be scary. It's really weird. Because I remember I used to have quite an issue for maybe does cause because I was just so such a nervous in flying by real issue for sleeping on a plane on a plane. More words again, so slow today. What's happening? Anyway, I have an issue sleeping on the plane, which I'm sure a lot of people have I had a real real problem with it. I just couldn't get any sleep..

It's a battle of statements between the chief Justice of the US supreme court and President Trump supreme court chief Justice John Roberts push back against the president. Who blasted the judge ruled against his new migrant asylum policy hauling him and Obama judge. The chief Justice said there are no Obama judges or Trump judges Bush judges or Clinton judges. He also said an independent judiciary is something we should all be thankful for not one to let that go. President Trump tweeted sorry chief Justice John Roberts. But you do indeed have Obama judges, and they have a much different point of view than the people who are charged with the safety of our country. He added it would be great if the ninth circuit was indeed, an independent judiciary. Linda Kenyon, Washington. "Her as Skoda's? I don't see anybody. Anybody better on the national stage right now. I would definitely I would definitely consider voting. Yes. Again, our guest Lucy Brennan, she's the libertarian nominee for US Senate. All right. The Ford allegations shoot they continue to pursue the should the Republicans allow this to play out. How should they be handling the these allegations against judge capital? I think a lot of people should just step back shut up and let the woman testify. She's either going to show that she is a credible source or not from that testimony, and at that point three hundred million people or so are going to be able to say, yeah, there's some depth to the allegations. Or clearly it's a political ploy. It seems like such a political ploy. Just from the standpoint of Feinstein, not releasing the written testimony that she was given the letter. And then, of course, not releasing the fact that this woman even existed. Until the ninth hour, so bad. Yeah. And that's what bothers you. Right. Is you had thirty five years to make the allegation at and you sit on this until after this guy's already done his testimony. And the other part of this is the demands, right? She keeps making these demands does that bother you. It really does. Because when somebody is in that position. They're making demands what that's telling me is that it's about them. And it's not about the country. It's about, you know, maybe her ego being seen fifteen minutes of fame versus coming forward and saying, you know, this is really important at Skoda's. And it's so important that I'm going to overcome my personal feelings of the uncomfortable and having had a metoo situation because I like most women, I gotta metoo moment. And now she's going to bring it forward at the last minute and to her credit. She didn't herself actually bring it forward at the last minute. She contacted Feinstein months ago. But clearly there was an agreement for that to be held back or she would have come forward herself outside of Feinstein. So it's a political football. The rob kindle show. Our guest Lucy Brenton, she's the libertarian nominee for US Senate, she'll be on your ballot. This fall as a woman are you upset by this? Because it appears now what started out as very noble thing of standing up against people who have abused their power abused. Women is now. Completely political. Here's what scares me. I have ten children and three of those are sons seven of those are daughters. Any woman at any time can come forward thirty five years later and ruined my son's career that he's worked hard for. So, you know, as the standpoint of a mother and just common sense. I think that we have to look at both sides of the issue. But I don't think that either party deserve more credibility based on their genitalia. All right. Let's talk about your race for US Senate. You ran in two thousand sixteen you did very well five and a half percent of the vote and you won the debates. I mean when you're on stage with Todd young,.

A law of these situations where if things had gone differently if crashed then you wonder how you would go on.
